John M'Donald ( sheep stealing), has been arrested; Hue- and- Cry 21st February, 1882. Cavan, DUBLIN CASTLE, 8th March, 1883. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that between the hours of 8 and 9 o'clock, on the night of the 16th February last, an armed party of men visited the houses of Thomas Duffy, Patrick Smith, and Owen Fox, in the townland of Rantavan, and parish of Castlerahan, county Cavan, intimidating aDd using violence towards the occupants, to one of whom they administered an unlawful oath: His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justioe the perpetrators of these Outrages, ia pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same. DESCRIPTION of a gun, the property of Richard Morton, which was forcibly taken out of his dwelling- house, at Knockroe, parish of kinawley, barony of Tullyhaw, on the 1st day of February, 1883 :— An old flint musket, converted into a cap- lock musket, butt mounted with brass, which is stamped " Belturbet, 1798." WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that between the hours of 8 and 9 o'clock, on the night of the 35th ultimo, a party of men, armed and disguised, visited the house of Michael Morony, of Leighort, in the parish of Feakle, and county of Clare, and inflicted on the said Morony a gunshot wound, from the effects ol which he has since died : His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such informa- tion as shall lead to the conviction of the per- son or persons who committed the same. , By His Excellency's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by W. O'Hara, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Tulla, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of a donkey- cart and articles of clothing, the property of Patrick Nash, which were stolen from near his residence, Gurteen, parish of Quin, and barony of Bunratty Upper, on the night of the 6th or morning of the 7th instant, viz.:— Donkey- cart, dray make ( strong), nearly new, painted red, name P. Nash, Cullane, cut on right or off shaft, one bolt that goes through the axle had no nut on it; value for about £ 3 10s. Clothing:— Three chemises, four shirts, and one new home- made linen sheet. The chemises have mildew marks on them, and one of the shirts was recently mended on both shoulders. The chemises and shirts were of white calico. It is supposed the above were stolen by tramps or travelling tinkers. Tulla, February 9, 1882. ( 44436 c— 1437.) DESCRIPTION of James Dunne, native of Straharloe, who stands charged with his brother Thomas, who is in custody, with having, on the 38th day of February, 1882, in the barony of Condons and Clongibbons, parish of Macroney, assaulted Michael Moher, from the effects of which he died on the 6th instant:— Large high mouth, blue eyes, large drooping nose, fair complexion, long shaven face, very stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 26 years of age, fair hair ; wore a black soft hat, dark frieze coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Sergeant Thomas Bantry, who stands charged with embezzlement at Ballincollig, county Cork:— Hazel eyes, fresh complexion, 6 feet 11 inches high, about 23£ years of age, dark brown hair; wore civilian clothes; deserter from 2nd Dragoons, 3nd December, 1881. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Looney, native of Cool- bane, and Denis Ryans ( mother's surname Crowley), native of Curragh, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 21st November, 1881, in the barony of West Carbery, E. D., parish of Abbey- strowry, grievously assaulted Patrick Sullivan, of Glounaphooca. ( For Patrick Looney's description, see Hue- and- Cry, 29th November, 1881):— 1. Blue eyes, long Roman nose, fair complexion, long face, slight active make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 19 or 30 years of age, light brown hair, no beard or whiskers ; wore a soft hat, dark tweed coat, gray frieze home- spun trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a labourer; likely to emigrate. 3. Large gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark brown hair, small dark side whiskers, shaves his chin; wore a low hat, dark tweed coat, gray frieze home- spun trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a dairyman ; likely to emigrate. DESCRIPTION of John Smith, native of Ballymack- lereany, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd day of February, 1883, in the barony of Upper Iveagh, parish of Drumgooland, stolen £ 15 from the dwelling- house of Samuel Fee, farmer, of Ballymack- lereany:— His eyebrows and eyelashes are clipped short, and he has sore ears; gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 18 years of age, brown hair; wore a soft felt hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; was & servant to Samuel Fee. DESCRIPTION of Daniel Sullivan, alias " Jack the Sailor" ( mother's surname Neill), native of Wexford, who stands charged with having, on the 35th Janu- ary, 1883, in the barony of Castlerea, parish of Saint- field, assaulted and robbed Robert Mortin on the highway. ( See Hue- and- Cry, dated 3rd instant.) This man has been arrested and remanded. He may have committed offences elsewhere. Any information respecting him may be communicated to the Sab- Inspector at Downpatrick. He was arrested at Omagh. States he belongs to the Wexford Militia » Pockpitted; gray eyes, cocked nose, fresh complexion, broad face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair, inclined to curl; wore a pot hat, but wears a cap at night, black tweed coat, gray trowsers and vest; is a tramping showman. Thomas Copes ( felonious and carnal assault), des cribed in Hue- aad- Cry of 4th October, 1881, not arrested. Dublin DESCRIPTION of Christina Best, native place un- known, who, on the 19th January, 1882, left her home, at Cabinteely, and has not since been heard of; it is feared she has met with foul play:— She is suffering from slight derangement of mind, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, rather long face, stout make, 6 feet 6 inches high, about 82 years of age, fair hair; wore no head dress, black stuff dress made in the present fashion, black cloth shawl, and light boots with elastic sides and tips on heels, Dundrum, Feb. 16, 1882. ( 48104 c.— 1160.) John Myles ( assault with intent to commit a rape), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 9th November, 1881. Galway. DUBLIN CASTLE, 2nd March, 1882. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that about the hour of half- past tea o'clock on the night of the 16th February. 1882, ConStable James Kavanagh was shot dead near the Police Barrack, at Letterfrack, county Galway, by some person or persons at present unknown : His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persous who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same. By His Excellency's Command, PusCKinios of Patrick Donohue ( mothers suruau e Flaherty), native of Knock, who staudg - charred with having. on ibc 8th of February, 1^ 3, in the barony of Moycullen, prish of Killannin, seriously assaulted Martin Lee, by striking him on the head with a stone, thereby endangering his life:— Good- looking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 6 feet inches high, about 20 years of age; wore a soft black hat, gray flannel coat and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of John Cooney, native of Inchamore, who stands charged with having, on the 21st day of January, 1882, in the barony of Kiltartan, parish of Beagh, seriously assaulted John Cooley, of same place, by knocking him down and kicking him while down:— Gray eyes, regular nose, swarthy complexion, thin face, slight make, 6 feet high, about 26 or 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a frieze coat, cord trowsers, and frieze vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of an ass's cirt, the property of Patrick Kiernan, which was stolen out of his yard at Clonard New, parish of Ballinadrimna, barony of Carbury, on the night of the 22nd or morning of the 38rd February, 1882, viz.:— Nearly new, the body painted blue, the wheels and sideboards red, the tops of the shafts black, there was a hole in the tail board caused by a knot falling out, the baards in the bottom of the cart were cut too short, and had there- fore pieces at the back t > make them long enough . the cart was value for £ 1, and had the owner's name and residence painted on the right shaft. Leitrim Peter Leyden's gun, described, in Hue- and Cry of 17th January, 1882, has not been recovered. Limerick. James Raleigh ( manslaughter), not arrested, Hue- and- Ory, 21st January, 1882. James Foley and Patrick Donovan ( assault en- dangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13tb January, 1882. Johu Reale ( horse- stealing), has been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th January, 1882. Londonderry. DESCRIPTION of John M'Nulty, native of Letter- muck, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 21st February, 1882, in the barony of Tirkeeran. parish of Upper Cumber, indecently assaulted Eliza Grey, spinster :— Very hollow in tbe back, large gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age, brown hair; wore a two- peaked cap, old black coat, blue trowsers, old black vest, and a red muffler; is a labourer. Bernard M'Laughlin ( manslaughter), has surren- dered ; see l » st Hue- and- Cry. Longford. DESCRIPTION of Hugh Martin ( mother's surname Dinneny), native of Edgeworthstown, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd March, 1882, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Mostrim, dangerously assaulted his brother, Philip Martin, by stabbing him with a fork, from the effects of which he died on 7th March, 1882:— Brown or gray eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, full red face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 3 « years of age, sandy whiskers; wore a low black hat. dark coat, corduroy trowsers. and dark vest; is a labourer. Ballymahon, March, 1882. ( 48432 c.— 1022.) DESCRIPTION of a cow, tbe property of Margaret Crennigan, of Ballinree, which was stolen from out of her cow- house, at Ballinree. in the county of Long'ord, parish of Ardagh, and bar'eny of Ardagh, viz. :— A three- year- old cow, a few days after calving, speckled red and white colour along hips, side, 8nd back, short horns, white star on face ; value for about £ 18. ( 48484c.— 1601.) ] DESCRIPTION of Mary Lennon, native of Gragh, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd Feb- ruary, 1882, in the barony of Maydaw, parish of Killashee, unlawfully and by false pretences, and making use of a forged letter, obtained from one William Ratigan the sum of £ 10, which she alleged was for her father, Matthew Lennon:— Good- looking, hazel eyes, Regular nose, fresh complexion, round face medium make, 5 feet high, about 16 years of age, dark hair; dressed in black, wore a brown or black Ulster, a hat, and laced boots; it is believed she went to Dublin. Longford, Feb. 25, 182. ( 48312 o— 1415.) Henry Browne, and Anne Toole ( robbery), have been arrested ; Hue- and- Cry. 24th February, 1883. The three persons, names and native placet unknown ( intimidation), not arrested; Hue and- Cry, 9th December, 1881. Mayo. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 2nd March, 1883, in the barony of Costello, parish ot Aughamore, been one of an armed party who fired shots intj the house of John Cassidy, of Crossard, and by threats and menaces, obtained and took away arms, the property of said John Cassidy, and by similar meais obtained arms from Patrick Cassidy, of Coolnagha:— Active appearance, sandy moustache, no whiskers, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 years of age; wore a low black s >' t hat, dark tweed short froc^ coat, and dark trowsers. Description of John Cassidy's guns:— 1. Muzzle- loading, single- barrel, maker's name Rigby, Dublin, engraved with golden letters on breech, slightly worn ; cost £ 25 when new. 2. An old Queen Anne, single- barrel, muzzle- loading gun, leather under barrel, stock too large for barr 1'; value when new for £ 3. Description of Patrick Cassidy's gun :— Double- ban eilfd mu? zJe- loading gun, stock biokeu and tied with copper wire; ci> st about £# Ballaghaderreen Mar. 7, 1882. ( 46160 c.— 1711.) DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, between 11.80 A. M. on tbe 1st and 9 A. M. on the 2nd March, 1882, in the barcny of Newcastle, parish of Lucan, stolen eight hoggets ( sheep), the property of Mr. Hugh Barr, from his farm at Dodsborough, and Sold same at the New Market. Dublin, 2nd March, 1882 ; gave name T. Reid, The Moor of Meath, and stated he stopped at North Star Hotel:— One of his legs appeared bowed when walking, spoke with a Scotch accent, respectable appearance, can be iden- tified, fair complexion, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 26 years of age ; wore a brown coloured tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, and brown coloured tweed top coat. Lucan, March 5, 1882. ( 4S452 c.— 1578.) DESCRIPTION of Thomas Walsh, alias Martin M'Hugh, alias Thomas Casey, states he is a native of Connemara ( as Tom Walsh), of Limerick ( as M'Hugh), and of Tipperary ias Casey), who stands charged with having, on the 3rd day of January, 1882, in the barony of Ross, parish of Ross, being con- cerned in the murder of Joseph and John Huddy:— • Good- looking, gray eyes, thin nose, fresh com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 21 or 22 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark tweed suit, and sometimes wears a light over- coat and gaiters, but is known to change his dress frequently. DESCRIPTION O! money and receipts, the property of Mr. Philip Conlon, which were stolen out of his bed- room in bis public- house at Lucan, parish of Lucan, barony of Newcastle, between 7 and 9 P. M., on the 6th of February, 1882, by some person or persons unknown: - Three £ 10 Bank of Ireland post bills, indorsed by Sub- Inspector A. M'Clelland, issued about October last; one £ 10 note, bank or No. not known; four receipts trofla Sir John Arnott's, Henry- street, Dublin— one for £ 100, one for £ 60, one for £ 4U, and one for £ 20. Daniel Hayes ( forcibly breaking into a dwelling- house, and robbery of fowl), not arrested;, Hue- and- Cry, 20th January, 1882. DESCRIPTION of a rifle, the property of William St. George ( junior, which was stolen out of the public- house of Thomas Connors, of Crusheen, parish of Drumacoo, barony of Dunkillin, and county of Galway, on 12th February, 18SJ ( four men ins- pected of the theft at present in fctistody):— A small square single- barrel, small bore, deeply grooved ( known by the name needle- gun), the needle fasten- ed to hammer; three back or elevating sights, No. 1 marked fid, No. 2, 100, and No. » , 16"; the name Wm. and J. Rigby, makers, engraved on barrel between hammer Hnd back sight; is in very good c ndition ; value W about £ 7. Gort. February I ft, 1882. ( 45870 o.— 1321.) King's. DESCRIPTION of John Bryan, native of Ballard, who stands charged with having on the 17th Feb- ruary, 1882, in the barony of Ballycowan, parish of Lynally, fired at the person of Thomas Flanagan, under- keeper at Charleville Forest, with intent to murder:— Dirty appearance, very prominent brows, light- coloured shaggy eyebrows, holds down his head when walking ; wild- looking light blue eyes, ordinary nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 iuches high, about 28 years of age, coarse light h « ir, standing on end ; wore a low round hat and trown frieze coit; looks like a labourer, but is a carpenter by trade. A subscription was made to take him to England. Tullamore, Feb. 10,1832. ( 18122 c 1216.) DESCRIPTION of articles of clothing, the property of Peter Fox, which were stolen from the lands of Loughcrew, parish of Loughcrew, barony of Fore, on or about the 2nd day of February, 1882 :— A bright frieze frock coat, two outside pockets, single breast, plain make, value for about 8s.; a dark tweed top coat, two ou'side pockets, no lapels, value for about 15 « .'; a pair of laced shoes gutta- percha soles, value for 6s. ; nine yards of dark stuff, value for 1 s. per yard ; a brown shawl with white stripes on inside, value for £ 1; a home- made- flannel petticoat, value for 8s.; three rows of black tape at bottom, with one row for binding. DESCRIPTION of John Connolly alias Maughan ( mother's surname Connolly), native of Monaghan, who stands charged with having, on the 13th Febru- ary, 1882, in the barony of Monaghan, parish of Monaghan, threatened to shoot his wife, Annie Connolly, and that he is a dangerous lunatic :— Blue eves, regular nose, fair complexion, rather thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 89 years of age, light brown hair tinged with gray, wears a mous- tache and short beard on chin ; wore a low round hard hat, light tweed coat, trowsers. and vest; walks a little stooped, carries a six- chamber revolver loaded, likely will call in second- class hotels; is a discharged soldier. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Williams, native of Castle- comer, county Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the 11th February, 1882, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Emly. assaulted Margaret Breen, so as to endanger her life :— Respectable ap- pearance, keeps his hands wide without swinging them when walking ; brown or hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout make, 6 feet 10 inches high, about 20 or 28 years of age, dark hair, shaves all his face except moustache which is black; wore a black jerry hat, which he wears on back of head, blue or black satara coat, brown tweed trowsers and vest; is a mason ; was in America for . some time. DESCRIPTION of Patrick St. John ( mother's sur- name Slattery). native of Derryhogan, who stands charged with having, on the 10th February, 1882, in the barony of Eliogarty, parish of Two- mile- Borris, stolen from his father the sum of £ 30, viz.:— Two £ 10 notes, and XL0 in single notes, with which he absconded:— Large mouth, blue eyes, cocked nose, sandy complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6| inches high, about 17 years of age, sandy hair; wore an old jerry hat, dark frieze coat, brown Windsor trowsers, and tweed vest. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 9th day of February, 1882, in the barony of Kilna- managh Upper, parish of Toem, assaulted Michael Carroll, rural letter carrier, at Foilaclug, when carrying the mail between Cappawhite and Holly- ford :— 1. Fair complexion, pale face, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair hair; wore a tweed cap and tweed frock coat. 2. Dark stubbly beard, dark complexion, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high. Dundrum, February 10, 1882. DESCRIPTION of a gun, the property of Edward Jordan, which was stolen by force from his dwelling- house, on the lands of Rathskeagh Upper, parish of Killare, barony of Rathconrath, on the 8th day of February, 1882, by two men with blackened faces, one of- whom was armed with n large pistol:— A single- barrelled fowling- piece, new, twist barrel, patent lock, length of barrel 2 feet 6 inches, with brass mounting on stock, maker's name unknown; value for about 30 « . The man, unknown, who stands charged with having murdered Esther Croghan, and wounded Anne Croghan, described in Hue- and- Cry of 3* d January, 1882, has not been arrested. Wexford. DESCRIPTION of Thomas James ( mother's surname Bane), [ native of Morriscastle, who stands charged with having, on the 9th and 28rd of January, and lflth February, 1882, in the barony of Ballaghkeen North, parish of Kilmuckridge, embezzled the sum of £ 1 9s , the property of his employer, George Murphy:— Slight cast in both eyes, good- looking, smart appearance, gray eyes, regalar nose, fair com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair; wore a soft hat, black tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a bread- car driver. He has frieads in Kingstown. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the constable at Kilmuckridge. Gorey, Feb. 27, 1882. ( 48393 c.— 1609.) Wicklow. DESCRIPTION of John Gordan, native of Ballysilla, county Wexford, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd day of February, 1882, in the barony of Ballinacor South, parish of Ballykine, been unable to give a satisfactory account of himself, and having in his possession £ 71 1 Js 1 , viz , £ 90 in British gold, £ 10 10s. in Australian gold, £ l Is. in silver, and in copper, an English lever silver watch, demi- hunter, No. 119,620, maker, O. R. Upjohn, Tamworth and London, also 2 sets of shirt studs— one gold- plated and one ivory, for the possession of which he refused to give any account:— Slouching gait, round shoulders, bronzed hardy- looking face, big busby beard and whiskers, marks of fresh scratches on backs and palms of hands, blue eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet ^ inch high, about 38 or 40 years of age, black hair ; wore a brown soft hat, gray tweed coat, gray troweers and vest; is a tramp, and has been re- manded to Wicklow gaol pending inquiry. N. B. The particular attention ot the R. I. C. is requested in this case, as the man is almost certain to have committed serious crime. , Wicklow, February 25, 1882. ( 48314 c.— 1416.)
