CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and oj Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are knoivn but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear tbe Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, ifc is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be fsrejjai< l5 otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and cl Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without khe apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copie3 of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and FOLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c-., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of ihe " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Wanted on a warrant at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, for forging and uttering a Cheque on the Islington Branch of the London and County Banking Company Limited, on 9th inst. : — CHAS. SABEY, alias J. H. GIRLING, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache, hazel eyes, left leg injured and slightly bent, causing him to limp when walking. This man • was in Birmingham on 16th ultimo. Information to Chief Constable Brogden, Creat Yarmouth, - who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 27. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on 13th ultimo :— a gold lever hunting Watch, maker ' R. Hess, Liverpool, No. 63194,' had attached a curb gold Albert Guard, with oval Seal ( cornelian stone one side, bloonstone the other). Information to the Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- st., March 3. Stolen from the person at Beverley, during the Horse Fair, on 21st instant:— a silver English lever Watch, No. 15065, bold black numerals. Information to Mr. Supt. Knight, Borough Police Office, Beverley, Yorkshire.— Bow- sireet, February 27. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. The attention of all Police is called to the existing preva- lence of housebreaking, by means of a ladder, between 8 and 11 p. m. In two or three cases the thieves are supposed to have used a high dog cart, drawn by a fast trotting bay cob, and there is every reason to suppose that their principal is:— a Man, 33 years of age, 5 feet C inches high, fresh complexion dark brown hair, fair moustache, hazel eye", marks on right arm, and shot marks in neck ; generally showily dressed, often wears thick patent leather boots; who has been frequently convicted of such offences. Persons should be cautioned as far as possible, against leaving ladders about after dusk near their dwelling houses. Information to the Director C. I. D., • Great Scotland Yard.— Metropolitan Police, March 3. Stolen by means of burglary, between 11 and 12 a. m. on 26th ult., at Wem, Salop :— 2 lb. of Cheese ; 1 lb. of Bread ; ilb. of Bacon ; 2 lb. of Custard ; 1 jam Tart; a small quantity of Butter and boiled Beef. Yalue 2s. By a tramp 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 ins. high, dark complexion, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in an old dark suit of clothes, brown from wear, hard worn, jacket has pockets on hips, dark muffler, low bard hat, thin old bcots with brass eyelet holes ; speaks with a strong Irish accent; may be found in lodging- houses, or tramps' wards; was making southwards. Sew- sire^ March 1, Stolen by means of burglary, on the night of 23rd inst., at Ardingly, Sussex :— three Overcoats, one light grey, one medium grey, and one dark grey, fiexable buttons, aud Italian- lining ; two silver- plated Cruet Stands ; a silver Top of mustard pot; 2 pepper Castors and Top ; three damask linen Table- covers, one marked ' A. A. S. 62' in ink, other two ' S.'; a dozen Brittanic metal Forks ; half dozen bone egg Spoons ; two dozen white handle Forks; a white handle Carver and Fork ; a stag horn ditto and Steel ; a plated tea caddy Spoon ; a plated toast Back; a silver tea Spoon, marked ' M. H.'; part of a cooked shoulder of Mutton; eighteen linen tea Cloths, marked' S.' in red cotton. Supposed by two men, one 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, red complexion, full face, black hair, stout figure, had the appearance of a cab driver ; dressed in long dark coat, black trousers, and hard felt hat; the other 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, black curly whiskers and moustache, medium figure, supposed navvy and bird catcher ; dressed in dark jacket, cord trousers, billycock hat. Information to Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Mr. Supt. Avery, Cuckfield, Sussex.— Bow- street, Feb. 27. Wanted on warrant, charged with housebreaking at Luton :— GEORGE SHANE, 42 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair and moustache, whiskers shaved off, large mouth, red nose, medium build, walks erect, dirty appearance ; dressed in old black pilot jacket, which he usually wears with only the top bntton buttoned, blue Guern- sey, dark cloth trousers', hard felt hat, and large brown muffler round neck. Will be likely to seek employment at gas works as a labourer. Accompanied by an Irish woman, about 35 years of age, 5 feet higb, dirty low appearance, rather thin face, and careworn expression. Information to Head Con- stable Jaquest, Borough Police, Luton, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, February 27. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING The mare described in Police Gazette of 6th ultimo, has been traced to a Knacker's Yard, were it had been sold and slaughtered. The 2 men discribed below, are now wanted on a charge of stealing the same :— THOMAS WARING, 35 years of age, 5 feet 10J inches higb, fresh complexion, light brown hair, inclined to curl, blue eyes, 3 moles on face, by trade a farm labourer ; dressed in dark mixture coat and vest, supposed moleskin trousers, worn at bottoms, soft cap, with peak and side laps, and clogs, watertight uppers. And JOHN MERCER, alias BOOTS, a sawyer, abant 46 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, marks— cut first finger right hand, cut left temple, and right cheek, burn mark under chin ; dressed in grey coat, dark vest, supposed cord trsusers, and hard round billycock hat, and clogs. These men are convicted thieves, and are well known in Blackburn and neighbourhood. Information to Mr. Sapt. Webb, County Police Office, Garstang, Lancas- shire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, March 3. Stolen from a Cabman's Yard, at Coventry, early on the morning of 1st instant:— a darK brown Horse, nearly thorough- bred, aged, about 16 hands high, white star on forehead, rather long mane, short thin tail, fore feet shod with leathers, near fore knee slightly enlarged ; a light spring Trap, painted chocolate colour, picked out with red, cratch plain painted and has been repaired, ' Maton and Sous, Hay and Straw Dealers, 67 and 68, Swanswell Street,' painted on side ; a set of brass- mounted Harness, with snaffle Bit, worn ; a brown horse Rug ; and dandy Brush ; and a waterproof Cape, marked ' B. Maton.' Information to Head Censtable Norris, Coventry. — Bow- street, March 3. Stolen on the morning of 24th instant, from a stable at Trefeglwys :— a light brown he Ass, aged, rather small size, and in good condition, collar mark on right shoulder, little lame on left forefoot; also a small Bridle ; two young tramps dressed in dark clothes, suspected. Information to the Chief Constable, Newtown, or to Sergeant Sibbald, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, February 27. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded on 16th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing a sealskin Jacket, 39 inches long, stand- up collar, red colour, made from two old jackets, rather patchy, lined and quilted with brown Italian cloth :— GEORGE THOMPSON, supposed to be a native of Wavertree, Liverpool, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fair, sandy moustache, may have whiskers, hair cut short, parted in centre, prominent teeth; wears a long greyish overcoat, and hard felt hat, military appearance, bad on his feet, is well known to Mr. Hughes, Builder, Wavertree, Liverpool. Information to the Inspector on duty, City Police Station, Upper Thames Street, London.— Bow- street, March 3. Absconded on 27th ultimo, from Mildenhall, charged with larceny : — GODDARD BOOTMAN, a native of Thrandeston, Suffolk, 32 years of age, 5 feet GJ inches high, light complexion aud hair, small light whiskers, small moustaehe, shaves chin, slight build, walks quick with short steps, and upright; dressed in drab tweed coat and vest, small cord trousers, deerstalker hat, and brown leatlisr leggiDgs, of shabby appearance, is likely to be found in. low beerhouses, sometimes plays a violin. Stolen on 26th ultimo, from a cart shed at Riby cross Roads :— a dark br « wn cloth Top- coat, velvet collar, double- breasted, four black bone buttons each side down front, lining; of brown material to match coat, bound round the writts with black braid, three pockets outside, and one inside left breast, about half worn. By a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, small whis- kers aud moustache ; dressed in a dark suit, vest double- breasted, black cloth cap, with large peak, and light laced boots, very much worn, may be wearing the stolen coat. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Jar vis, County Police Station, Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 3. Absconded on 23rd ultimo, from Market Harborough, charged on a warrant with Larceny :— HENRY NOBLESi, native of Maid well, Northamptonshire, rag and bone collector, but occasionally works as a labourer, he is well known in Northamptonshire, and frequents common lodging houses, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, brown hair, pale complexion, ssndy moustache, thin face, leans slightly forward wlien walking, aud carries his hands in hit- pockets, has lost the first finger right hand, and of very dirty appear- ance ; dressed in drab jacket, cord or moleskin trousers, drab coloured soft hat, and old elastic- side boots. Stolen at Market Harborough, on the 2lst ultimo:— a Bundle, containing a grey cloth or tweed Jacket, and Waist- coat, not much worn, the jacket has pockets on hips, inside left breast, and ticket pocket ; 3 pairs of grey worsted Socks-; a blue cotton Shirt; and soft quilted Hac. By a man about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, full red face, ginger hair, small sandy whiskers, no moustache, rather stout build, and of respectable appearance ; dressed in dark jacket, light coloured cord trousers, mended inside thigh, white muffler, shabby low hard hat, strong lace- up boots, and said he was a stableman and gardener. CHRISTOPHER OWEN, alias EDWARD SADDING- TON, advertised in Police Gazette of 4th ultimo, as wanted on warrant, charged with Fowl stealing, at Be- kswell on 20th January last, has been arrested and committed for trial upon that charge. The other man, JOSEPH OWEN, described in the same information, is still at large ; he is known amongst cattle drovers by the name of ' Pirkey Johnson.' Information to Mr. Supt. Hannah, Constabulary Office, Longford; Coventry, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, March 1. Stolen from a public- bouse yard, at Stokesley, on 2< ith ultimo :— 4 game Bantams— a red and black male bird, two brownish- coloured hens with yellow penzil marks, the other hen a much lighter colour. By a man 30 to 40 years of age, middle height, swarthy complexion, proportionate build, spoke with a rough voice ; dressed in light- coloured working clothes, which had the appearance of being greasy © r dirty. Absconded on 26th ultimo, from Newton Rugby, charged with embezzling several sums of Money : — THOMAS WOODCOCK, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 ins. high, dark eyes, dark hair, sallow complexion, little dark whiskers up sides of face, clean shaved chin, very round features, of smart appearance ; dressed in a new suit of dark clothes, light coloured necktie, with blue spots, new lace- up boots, low- crowned hard black billy hat, with rather broad brim ; liao been employed at the Newton Dairy Farm, delivering milk, &(•-., for more than 12 months. Information, to Acting Supt. Welch, Bugby, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 1. Description of THOMAS WILLIAM BANKS, a, labourer of Bilston, wanted on a warrant charged with stealing on 25th ultimo, at Bilston, an aluminum gold Geneva Watch, open face, black figures, steel hands, glass cracked across, No. 8097, with a long silver Chain attached :— he is- 22 years of age, 4 feet 11 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, light grey eyes, stout build, rather round shouldered, long eyelashes, wears his hat low on his forehead ; dressed in black soft billycock hat, snuff colour cloth suit; was convicted and sentenced to 3 months hard labour in Juc « , 1880, for stealing £ 7 10s. in money, at Bilst. on. Wanted for embezzlement:— ARCHIBALD GEORGE LEES, lata of St0ke- 0D- Treat, about 34 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, light complexion, auburn hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, slight build ; was agent for the sale of various kinds of mac- hines and musical instrumea'es ; he is well known iu Liverpool, where his father resides. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Bwen, Stoke on- Trent, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 27. Absconded from Newport, Monmouthshire,' on 22nd inst., charged on a warrant with stealing iill 13i fid. :— ROBERT HENRY EDWARD3. Lance Sergeant, 23rd Regiment, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6| inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair cut very short, aud medium build ; supposed dressed in a dark tweed suit with very small red stripe in it. and brown hard bowler hat. May 1 e carrying a new yellow travelling bag ( as he purchased one), and the suit of clothes before he left Newport; he is a native of Liverpool, where his father and some younger brothers and sisters are living ; his father is supposed to be in a shipbrofeer's office in Liver- pool, Information to Mr, Chief sJi- ipt. Wanted on warrant, charged with larceny, at Blackheath, on 21st instant :— SAMUEL ROPER, alias KING, of Terrace- street, Blackheath, Rowley Regis, a chain maker, 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair, shaves clean, medium build, native of Old Hill, Staffordshire, married, and two children ; dressed in blue pilot jacket, moleskin trousers, and hard black hat. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Brierley Hill, or to Sergeant Cooper, Blackheath, near Dudley, who holds the warrant.— JBow- street, February 27. Charged with stealing a Coat ( since recovered), from his lodgings at Aldershot, on 24th instant:— a man, about 30yrs. of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rough dark complexion, full face, stout build, slight moustache; dressed in brown coat, pockets on hips, and on left breast with flaps, button holes, and pockets, braided with dark brown braid, dark trousers, and hard round blaok felt hat. Has the appearance of an officer's servant, and stated that his master belonged to a Cavalry Regiment. Information to the Deputy Chief Con- stable, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, Feb. 27. Wanted for stealing at Longburton, Dorset, on 23rd instant:— a double case silver Geneva Watch, No. 27723, short German silver Chain attached, with a 5 Cent piece at end, the watch is out of repair ; a black dress Coat, 2 buttons behind, inside breast pocket, and pockets each side ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, has been turned ; a dark Waistcoat. WILLIAM T. HAMMOND, 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, blue eyes, stout [ built, cut on left eye, a native of Hastings, has served in the 4th Batterry, 7th Brigade, R. A.; supposed dressed in blue overcoat, the stolen clothes, and bowler hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Florance, Sherborne, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Boio- street, February 27. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Stockport, about G a m., 24th instant:— a black lustre Skirt, flounced round bottom, nearly new ; a white Skirt, needlework round bottom, nearly new ; a black, green, and red striped Skirt, partly worn ; a pair of bleached calico drawers, plaits round bottom, nearly new; a woman's long Nightgown, needlework round neck and sleeves ; a woman's plain twill calico Chemise ; a child's brown Ulster, three or four black buttons down front; a child's pompedore Pinafore, partly worn ; a grey, black, and red striped Shawl, much worn ; and 7 yards of slate- coloured Winsey. By a woman, 20 years of ege, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, slender build, sharp features,' and lost front teeth except 2 at top and 2 at bottom ; dressed in old grey skirt princess robe, white apron, clogs, and supposed stolen shawl. Absconded, charged with felony :— GEORGE PELL, 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slim build, sallow com- plexion, slight moustache, dark, long hooked nose, and lumps in left leg ; dressed in grey overcoat, white wrapper, dark trousers, and lace up boots. Father keeps an ironmonger's shop iu Bridge Street, Northampton. Warrant issued. In- formation to the Director, C. I. D , Great Scotland Yard, S. W. — Bow- street, February 27. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Wanted at Derby, charged on a warrant with obtaining on 20th ultimo, by means of false pretences, 30 Doors, which have since been found sold at Burton- on- Trent :— HENRY WHINDEM, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, proportionate build, walks erect, brown hair, whiskers and moustache, weak eyes, which are inflamed, occasionally wears spectacles or a shade; has been wearing a plaster, about the size of a crown piece on each temple, but has bought a wig or something of that description, which covers the temples where the plasters had been ; is a native of Barrow- in- Furness ; he professes to be a contractor and builder, makes contracts to build houses, orders and obtains materials, and immediately disposes of them. He has obtained goods in a similar man- ner at Burton- on- Trent, where he stated that he had just returned from America, and had lost his outfit on the voyage. Information to Chief Constable Delacombe, Derby.— Bow- itreet, March 3. Wanted for obtaining Monies by means of false pre- tences :— a man giving the name of H. WILLIAMS, about 50 years of age, 5 i'e& t 9 or 10 iuches high, stoutly built, very dark brown hair, dark whiskers turning grey; dressed respectably in a dark overcoat, dark vest and trousers, and supposed to be wearing a tall silk bat; stales he is an agent to the ' Grocers' Journal,' 12, Little Tower Street, London, E C. He is supposed to be the man which is wanted at Andover for a'similar offence. Information to Sergeant Jones, Police Station, Amlwch, Anglesey, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- sweet, March 1. Wanted on a charge of obtaining £ 6 6s. by means of false pretences from John Thomas Whittingslow, at Evesham, on 15tb June last:— ROBERT GILES LETHBRIDGE, a solicitor's clerk 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, thin face, auburn hair and whiskers, walks with a stick, stomps, and appears lame in his feet, and frequents smoke- room company; is of gentlemanly appearance and good address. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemp, Pershore, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 1. Wanted on a warrant at Hoiy head, charged with obtaining money by false cheques, purporting to have been drawn by John Caldwell, upon Messrs. Hall, Bevan, and West Army and Navy Agents, Banking Chambers, Lombard Street, in favour of H. Caldwell:— H. CALDWELL, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slight build, light complexion, light arm disabled ; wearing a black cloth suit, ard black felt hat. Left Holyhead by the 8" 5 p. m. Mail, on 15th ultimo, supposed for London, where he has relations living at Edg « are Itoad, has lived for many years at Holy- headed left in the year 1875. Information to Mr. Supt. Committed for trial at the next Assizes, on a charge of breaking into Middle Church, on the night of 22nd ultimo : — SAM UEL JAMES, 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, a sweep, born at Wem; convicted at Newtowo, Mareh 4. tb, 18/ 2, of larceny, 1 cal eacnth » h. 1.; " Salop Quarter Sessions, Jan. 5tL » 1875, larceny, $ cal. months h. 1. Information to Mr. Supr Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, March 3. Description of a man who gives the name of HENRY RUDDY, charged with stealing Ducks in Shrewsbury :- he is a tramping bricklayer, 33 years of sge( 5 feet 6i inches high, full dark grey eyes, dark brown hair cut short, small light moustache, no whiskers, fresh complexion, small scar on right side of forehead touching the hair, scars on shins as if from kicks, stale mark of knifo on top of head, bracelet tattooed on right wrist; dressed in old dark monkey jacket, dark striped vest, dirty daxk cord trousers, white woollen mufller, and red and white neckerchief ; he is a native of Bristol, and resided at 22, Lamb- street, St. Jude, and left there two years ago, and has since been tramping. Information to Chief Constable Harrop, Shrewsbury.— Bow- st., March 3. Remanded to Iler Majesty's Prison at Norwich, from Wymondham, until 7th instant, charged with stealing on 25th ultimo, from the shop of Mr. E.
