POLICE CONTAINING Tin Sulstance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marls of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the ( Mgnstore of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary tfeat an information Bhould be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, ot the Offence charged, aud an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisemeat, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for tho insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, tt! l letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid) otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ol Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 881, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by t'ne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without t he apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London," PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to b8 good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition cf Gaols, Stations, and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. ELI BRUNT, charged with wounding George Wm. Hoar, at Haynes, advertised in Police Gazette of 6th instant, has been apprehended.- Low- street, February 17. Further information respecting the two men who absconded from Hayes, near Bedford, or. 28' h ultimo, charged on warrants with wounding Police Constable George Win. Hoar, at Havne?, on 28th ultimo : — FREDERICK TUFFNELL 23 years of age, blacksmith, 5 feet 11 inches high, fair complexion, no whiskers or mous- tache, light hair, cut short, blue eyes ; generally dresses in high felt hat, dark coat, fustiam trousers, and lace- up boots ; walks erect, and has a respectable appearauce. ELI BRUNT, 26 years of age, labourer, 5 feet- 5J inches high, rather thin, fresh complexion, round face, small features, brown hair, small dark brown moustache, little or no whiskers, grey eyes ; dressed in dark coat and vest, and brown corded trousers ; he belongs to the Army Reserve, but has the appearance of a gentleman's servant. Tuffnell is a good shoeingsmitb, has a sister living at Liver- pool, and another living at St. Alban's, and will proba'ly visit them. Brunt has a sister living at New Whittington, near Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Information to Mr. Supt. James, Ampthill, Beds.— Bow- street, February 15. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Stockport, on lltlr instant:— a, silver lever hunting Watch, No. 6799, no maker's name, supposed by two women. Information to Chief Constable Staples, Stockport.— Bow- street, February 15. Stolen from the person on 4th instant:— a gold lever Watch, engraved flowered back, medium size, gold dial and hands, maker's name ' Whitmoreand Son, Northampton,' No. 6860, been in wear about 20 years, had attached a gold albert Chain, oblong links, about the size of a pea, and diamond cut, stamped on each link, and a Seal on swivel, red stone on one side, and green stone on the other. Information to Head Constable Jervis, Borough Police, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 10. Stolen from the person at Old Trafford, about 4 30. p. m. 6th instant :— 6s. 5d. in Silver and Copper. By a woman about 20 or 24 years of age, 5 feet high, rather good looking ; dressed in brown shawl, black bonuet, and carried a black leather satchel. Information to the County Police Office, Old Trafford, Marchester.— Boic- street, February 10. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 7 and 8 p m. on the night of 12th instant, at Town's End, Hale so wen :— a gold breastPin, with small diamond in ceutre, ' J. A. R. scratched on back ; a gold breast Pin, chain cable link, moveable ; 3 gold Bhirt Studs, with topaz stones ; 2 silver Solitaires ; 2 gold plated do. ; 3 box Keys ; a brass Seal, 6 square, all different inscriptions, namely, a. man with a fishing- rod and liue, and ' drop this line in dopes'; another ' I. O. U. a ilettei'; another, man with » ledger ou his chin, and ' balancing accounts ;' another, a railway engine ; another, a Votre service ; and another, quill peri, ' tongue of the absent,' and a gold finger Ring set with oval sardonic stone. Stolen by means of burglary at Caterham on 14th inst.:— a French Timepiece, pendulum missing ( name inside cf case) ; 2 spade Guineas ( date 1796) ; 2 wedding Rings, gold ( very- thin) ; a Overcoat, man's size, grey ribbed, 3 pockets outside, one inside breast ; a black diagonal Jacket; a black herring- bone ditto. a black lady's diagonal Jacket, trimmed with fur ; a girl's Ulster, grey, Oxford tweed. Charged on a warrant with breaking and enteriug an ironmonger's shop, on 8th instant, and stealing therein : £ 1 10s., a Coat, a Handkerchief, and a Diary for 1881 : — ALEXANDER CONNOLLY, 22 years of age, 5 fset 6 or 7 inches high, slight build, fair cnmplexion. tbin face, hazel eyes, one eyelash deficieut, light brown heir, very slight moustache, 1 A. C.' and several other marks tattooed on arms ; dressed in a black fancy cloth coat, white moleskin trousers, round hard felt hat, white muffler, and military boots. Has friends residing at Temple Cowley, near Oxford. Information to Head Constable Morton, Winchester, Hants.— Bcncstreet, February 17. Between 8 and 10 p. m. on 13th instant, Heath House, Weybridge, was broken and entered, and stolen therein :— a lady's gold English Lever Wa* ch, No. 211078. ' C. H.' on back, gold Chain and spade Guinea attached ; a lady's gold Geneva ditto, gold Chain with Guinea ( encased in crystal*) attached ; a gold talisman Bncelet, a plaiu gold chaiu ditto, a coral Necklace, a plain gold Brooch ; six gold Rings, set with stones ; a silver Mug, lined with gold, name of ' Agnes' thereon ; a £ 0 Bank of England Note, £ 5 in Gold, aid a Russia leather Purse. Information to Mr. Supt. Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Cbertsey.— Bow- street, February 15. Stolen by means of burglary at Woodham, Mortimer Grange, on night of 8th instant:— a light grey stable Jacket, double bieasted, with second bu' ton offleft breast, and lining of pockets torn. By twe men, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, light sandy moustache and whiskers, and of smart appearance ; dressed 11: d'- trk clothes, and military boots, was carrying a long brown overcoat, and an umbrella ; 1I13 other about 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache, turning grey ; was wearing a light livt, and carried a small black bag, and au umbrella. Information to Inspector Ackers, Essex Constabulary, Latch- ingdon.— Bow- street, February 15. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Sandy fields, Sedgley, between 3.30 p. m. 7th and 11 am. 8th ins., during absence of the occupier: — 2 Half- Sovereigns, about £ 2 in Silver and Copper Coins, one Shilling with head on each side, and an Indian Rupee. Also stolen from the Moor Farm, Upper Penn, between 4tli and 7th instant:— a pair of old Steelyards to weigh 60 lb., makers A. Gilby and Son, and a copper Skewer, about 18 inches long. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Longden, Bilston, or to Sergeant Goodall, Sedgley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Feb. 10. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING OLIVER SELWYN, advertised in Police Gazette of 13Ui instant, as being wanted for horse stealing at Ashle- worth, near Gloucester, has been apprehended.— Bow- street, February 17. Stoleu from Fosserwav, near Lichfield, on 3rd instant :— A dark brown Shetland horse Pony, about 9 hands high, 5 years old, long mane and tail, and in good condition. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Gilbride, Burton- on- Trent, or to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownhills, near Walsall.— Bow- street, February 15. Stolen from a field at the Heath, Stourbridge, during the night on lst instant: — a dark brown mare Pony, aged, about 12 hands high, off fore leg a little lame, blind left eye, brown uose, switch tail. Information to Mr. Supt. V/ heeler, Stour- bridge, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, Februa'y 13. Further information respecting the Pony and Bridle stolen at Laverick Hall, on 11th ultimo, both of which have been 1 ecovered. A warrant has been issued for the appre- hension of SHADACH NELSON, late of Sheriff Hill, Gateshead, hawker, for the offence ; 21 yea- s of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather slender build, Kght hair, no whiskers, slight light moustache ; dressed in grey coat and vest, light cord trousers, dark cap; has a pedlar's certificate in his pos- sessirn, granted by Mr. Supt. Wood, Gateshead, in June last. He was apprehended at Hawick, Roxburghshire, on 8th inst., on the above charge, but made his escape from police cell at 2 p. m. same day. A young woman was with him previous to his arrest, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, proportionate make, dark hair and eyes, fair complexion, and slightly pockpitted ; dressed in a black dress, small yellow plaid shawl, and speaks the Scotch dialect. After his escape he left by train iu thi direction of St. Boswells without a ticket. Information to Mr. Supt. Young, Morpeth, or to Inspector Rutherford, Blyth, Northumberland.— Bow- btreet, February 13. On the night of 7th instant, someone slaughtered a ewe Sheep, iu a field at Moss House Farm, Audley. £ Z reward will be paid to anyone giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, on application to Mr. J. Betteley, Mos* House Farm, Audiey. or Sergeant Locker, Police Office, Chesterton.— Bow- street, February 10. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Charged with stealing 36 lb. of Bras*, ( recovered) at Pershore on 2ad instant:- CH ARLES CLICK, 31 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, looks ill; dressed iu dark brown overcoat, elark trousers, vest aud cap, a moulder by trade, aud is a native of Gloucester, is likely to seek employ ment as a brass caster. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemp, Pershore, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Feb. 17. Absconded, charged on warrant with obtaining £ 4 bv false pretences :— HARRY ANTRIM, alias BROWN, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, slight figure, late of Lewes. Stated that be had been engaged in a theatre at Southampton, also in London. Was at Eastbourne on 14th instant, where he redeemed two coats from pledge and bought a pair of white mixture tweed trousers and a pair of aide- spring boots ; dressed in dark coat, blueish trousers, hard round hat ; he has a large ecar ou one cheek and a large vein on side of neck causing him to carry head on one side. Left Eastbourne by 4 30 p m. train for London. Information to Mr. Supt. Os'orn, Lewes, Sussex.— Bow- street, Fabrnt/ ry 17. CHARLES COOPER, alias HENRY ROBERTS, wanted for la- ceny, at Kimblesworth, on 6th instant, ( advertised in the Police Gazette of 13th instant), has been apprehended, but the following property is rtill nrre- covered :— a single- cased aluminium gold Watch, No. 39, has the words ' Aluminium gold' engraved round a crown on in- side of case: a silver Albert, curb pattern, had two small silver Coins ( foreign) attached, and a black braid Guard. Please cause inquiries to be made at pawnbrokers, watch- makers, and other likely places, with a view of recovering the above- described property. Information to Mr. Supt. Dunn, County Constabulary Office, Durham.— Bow- st., February 17. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Penybontfawr on 9th instant, a pair of Trousers ( recovered). Supposed by two men that lodged at the house, and supposed to have gone in the direction of Oswestry :— lst, 17 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender build, dark brown hair ; dre3sed in dark cioth suit, coat and vest of the same material, and cloth cap with flaps on sides, and string tied on top of the same, and wore a pair of leather leggings nearly new . with buckles and straps, and had a pair of clogs on his feet, aud stated that he was a native of Selattyn. 2nd, about 17 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, rather stout, dark brown hair : dressed in black hard billycock hat, cirty slop, corduroy trousers, aud is a native of Melver ley, Salop. Information, to Mr. Supt. Ellis, Welshpool, or to Police Constable Hamer, Penybontfawr via Oswestry.— Bow- fireet, February 15. Stolen, about 12 ( noon) on lllh instant, from the Royal George Hotel, Rugby : — A lady's gold Watch, open crystallised face, black figures, wreath of ttowers engraved on back. A lady's silver Geneva Watch, miniature size, open enamelled face, black figures, aud a short curb silver Albert Chain attached. A gold Bracelet, set with pearls, with small gold Chain attached to act as fastening. An aluminium gold Bracelet, broad band. A silver Bracelet, with ' Annie' engraved outside. A do. with two round Rings and a diamond between, fengraved on back. Two plain silver Bracelets. A plain silver Collarette, whichform3 two bracelets when divided. By two men who booked for London by the 1 p. m. train on same day :— one about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 01 6 ins. high ; fresh completion, dark hair and moustache, and no whiskers. Tho other about 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 iuches high, pale complexion, brown hair, 110 hair on faee, boyish appeal- ance ; dressed in dark overcoats, dark clothes, low- crowned hard black hats, one with leather lace- up boots, the other drab cloth topped boots. The elder one was wearing a gold watch guard and horseshoe scarf pin, two rings, one plain thick gold, the other with coloured stones. Supposed to be the same men wanted for hou3ebreakirg at Fulbourn, Cam- bridgeshire. Information to Acting Supt. Welch, Rugby.— Bow- tired, February 15. Stolen at Burslem between 11th and 13th instant :— 2 Saws, 2 Axes, 2 Grafting Spades, 2 Braces and Bits. On 13th instant :— a pair of man's strong lace- up Boots, size 9, brass eyelets, two hooks at top, tips ou hoels, and toe- caps ; and a lady's browu cloth Cloak, mended in centre of back. JOHN JONE3, advertised in Police Gazette of Sth Sept. last, as Iseing wanted at Burslem for stealing Boots and 1 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. February 17 Clothing, has teen apprehended and remanded until 21st inst. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, February 15. Absconded, chargcd - with embezzlement: — JOHN GOTTS, 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout, dark complexion, hair, eyes, whiskers, and moustache, shaved nnder chin, lost his right leg and lias a cork one, sometimes wears spectacles; dressed in black suit, low hard felt hat; • well educated. Has children at a school in Lewes, whom he may visit. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland- yard, 8M.— Metro- politan Police, February 15. Absconded, charged with stealing on 8th December last, a. Organ Harmonium, play3 8 tunes, has 36 keys, oval top, rosewood case, on a truck, ' Cheappa' on barrel: — JOHAN AN DEN SHONAKEREN, a Swede, 26 years of age, 6 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, fair hair and moustache, thin face!; dressed in black cutaway coat, dark trousers, soft felt hat. Supposed tramping the country with the stolen instrument. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, February 15. Absconded on 31st ultimo, from West Hartlepool, charged on warrant with embezzling a large sum of Money :— JOHN RHYS PRICE, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, 12 stones weight, dark hixir, bright dark eyes, short side whiskers, and heavy moustache ( very dark); dressed in brown tweed check tight fitting suit, and light brown witney over- coat, brown hard felt hat, with two ventilators, one at each side, generally wears patent leather boots, and carries a short stick ia his hand, carried a black satchel bag; military appearance, a chemist, native of Neath, Glamorgan, Wales, married, has two children, his wife's father Mr. Reynolds, lives at Claygate, Esher, Surrey, has a brother- in- law named G. G. Marks, 27, Stammer- street, Battersea, also three brothers, one Rhys Price, chemist, in Clapham- road, London, two at Neath, one a bank cashier, the other a mining engineer. Is supposed to have a large sum of money in his possession, was seen iu Loudon on the 1st instant. .£' 20 reward will be paid on " the apprehension of the above named. Information to Mr. Supt. Scott, Police Station, West Hartlepool. — Bov> slrcet, February 15. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Tong- with- Haulgh, about 6 p. m. 8th instant:— a large- sized lady's gold Watch, No. 40918, maker's name Alexander Bruce, Manchester, gold dial and hands ; & woman's black velvet Hat with small feather in front; a black Sbawl; a pair of small black Ear- rings ; a pair of woman's elastic side Boots, kid tops, bow in front, high heels, and newly fried. By a woman who had been employed at the house a week as domestic servant, and about 40 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, stout build, full features, brown hair turning grey in front ; was dressed, when last seen, in a brown winsey skirt, and the stolen property ; ha3 two ckildrefi, one is a girl ( which she had in lodgings in Blundell- street, Bolton, and took her away about 8 p. m 8th instant.), about 10 years of age, dark hair, cut in front donkey friDge fashion, very dark looking, round face; dressed in j light- coloured stuff frock with two frills round bottom, brown ulster, brown hat with feather, and old elastic- side boots. The other child is 6 years of age, and resides with an aunt at Farnworth. This woman is said to have resided formerly at Moor House, Warrington, and is said to be well known at Warrington, Manchester, and Liverpool; is a widow, and it is said to be a practice with her to get situations at better class houses as servant, remain a few days, and decamp with anything she can conve- niently carry away. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 13. Charged with stealing a Blanket and Towel, on 6th inst., from her lodgings, where she has left a black bag, the blanket and towel are pledged at Wicdsor : — — WILLIAMS, alias HOLT, alias FLORA JAMES, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, grey eyes, pockmarked, has lost several front teeth ; dressed in dark grey - ulster, nearly black, black dress, widow's bonnet; Welsh accent and respectable appearance ; states she has lately lost her husbaud ; had only been in Windsor a few days. Spppoeed to be the sama woman wanted by the L Division, Metropolitan Police, Kenni » gton- lane, for stealing a blanket. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. Supt. Hayes, Windsor. — Bow- street, February 13. Stolen on 10th instant, at Patrington :— a man's light cloth mixture short Jacket, 3 potkets outside, 2 on hips and 1 left breast, and 1 pocket inside containing a Primitive Methodist Hymn- book, has the name ' George Nights' in it; a dark brown cloth Vest; and a pair of brown plaid Trousers, with fall fronts, and watch pocket in right side. By a man of respectable appesrance, who took lodgings for one night on 9th instant, and left the following morning about 8 a. m., about 24years of age, 5 feet 7 indies high, fresh complexion, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, stout figure ; dressed in dark blue nap cloth jacket, brown mixture trousers, very wide in the legs, light lace- up boots, with brass eyelet holes, In- formation to Mr. Supt. Burniston, Sp. roatley, Htill, or to Inspector Wwpenny, Patiington, Hull.— Bov:- street, Feb. 13. Wanted, charged with stealing fowls at Carleton Rode : - JOHN ELLIS BROWN, alias JOHN BROWN, alias SHARPER BROWN, 25 years of age, 5 fe » t 6 inches high, complexion fresh and dark, dark bro- vn hair, hazel eyes, pro- portionate build, oval face, little or no whiskers, native of Forncett, St. Mary, a blacksmith ; dressed when last seen, iu brown tweed suit, hard brown hat and strong lace- up boots, may now bo wearing sealskin cap and brown mixture alster. Information to Mr. Supt. Grimes, Pulham Market, or to police constable, Frosdick, Bun well, Attleborough, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 10. Stolen from an Hotel at Dudley, between 4 and 6 p. m. on 6th instant:— a brown *\> at, and Vest to match ; a pair of Scotch tweed Trousers, maker ' Waring, Dudley' on the buttons ; a blue pilot Overcoat, black velvet collar ; a hard round billycock Hat ; a gold keeper Ring ; a gold Ring with shield; a gold mourning Ring, set with pearls: a gold mourning Ring, with monogram and inscrip'ion'Robert Hall, died August :> lst, 1875, aged 25.' Supposed by two men who were seen in the hotel, one about 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, black curly hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark coat, and coloured trousers, and old elastic- side boots ; the other about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, small dark whiskers and moustache, one upper front tooth broken; dressed in dark clothes, white muffler, and high silk hat. Stolen from an hotel at Stafford, between 1 and 2 p. m. on 8ih instant:— a gold Necklet, with points all round ; a lady's gold lever Watch, No. 12188, with gold dial and black figures, marked on inner case ' Presented by a few Friends to Miss A. A. Turner '; a silver lever Watch, No. 11274, j- plate, enamelled dial, small steel Chain attached ; two gold Chains, one of very fine wire ; a massive gold Pencil- case, * with^ blopd- red stone at end ; a set of pearl Studs ; a set of coral Studs ; a Guinea ; a Portugal double Dubloon, date 1732 ; a small gold Seal; a small gold Locket, monogram ' E. 8.' and hair inside; a gold Brooch, with emeralds; two dress Rings; a small gold Key ; a gold Locket, with compasses ; a lady's gold Pencil- case ; a lady's gold Ring, set with five or six emeralds ; a gold Vinaigrette, with red coloured glass ; and a plain grid Bracelet.
