POLICE l) L> 2tutI) on'tj)> CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6718 FRIDAY, JANUARY 20, 1882. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed (- 0 the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information Bhould be made and sworn to before a magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering regard i must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by t'ne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without ihe apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other' wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Wantid under warrant, at Old Hill, for Forging a Bill of Exchange for £ 74 15s. 3d., at Cradley Heath, on 17th July last :— WM. WOODHOUSE, about 39 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light complexion, grey eyes, a nervous twitching of right eye, long thin nose, light brown hair, light brown bushy whiskers, and moustache, cut short, stout build, rather corpulent, smart appearance, walks erect, swings right arm when walking, married, wife and 9 children are still at Cradley Heath ; dressed ( when last seen in Birmingham, on 12th instant), in a suit of dp. ik clothes, and hard black felt hat. He left Cradley Heath on 16ih December last. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. VVoollaatoL, Brierley Hill, or > o Inspector Walters, Old HiiJ, near Dud ey, Staffordshire. — Bow- street January 20. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person, at Altcar, on 11th instant:— a gold Watch with enamelled dial, on which is the name ' B Beaumont,' and ' 1840' or ' 1842,' No. 841 or 844, maker's address ' West India Dock Road, London,' engraved on works; bad attached a gold Albert Guard, shoit link pattern, no appendages. £ 10 will be paid by the owner for such infor- mation as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves and recovery of the property. Information to Mr. Supt. Jervis, County Poli; e Office, Ormskiik, or the Central Iolhe Office, Dale Street, Liverpool. — Bow January 20. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. In custody at Bedford, charged with burglary, on the night of 13th instant:- HENRY WILSON, 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, auburn hair, blue eyes, s'ight moustache, whiskers shaved off, oval face, proportionate build, respectable appearance, a carpenter, scars on left eye brow and on right temple, cast in left eye, mole on left side of neck, varicose veins inside of right knee and small ones on left leg, large scar inside right leg just above the ankle. States he was born in Liverpool, and that bis father and mother are in New York ; also states that he has travelled through Not- tingham, Peterborough, Leicester, Huntingdon and Lincoln ; dressed in low black felt hat, single breasted dark cloth pea jacket, dark cloth vest, dark mixture trousers, striped wool shirt, and low shoes. Information to Mr. Supt. Kennedy, County Police Station, Bedford.— Bow- street, January 20. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 6 and 8 p. m. 15th instant, from the dwelling- house of William Hopwood, Bradley Green :— a Cash Box ( recovered), containing £ 29 in Gold, and £ 3 in Silver. Information to Mr. Supt. Hall, Tunstall, or to Sergeant Evans, Bradley Green, near C'ongleton, Staffordshire,— Boix- itnet, January 20. JOHN RANDALL, advertised in the Police Gazette of November 4th, 1881, charged with burglary at Blewbury, Berks, has been apprehended.— Bow- street, January 20. Charged with burglary at Rugeley, on 17th Oct., 1881, and on 11th instant, property recovered: — a man, a"' out 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, light hair, whiskers, and moustache, brown eyes, medium build ; dressed in dark coat ( cutaway), moleskin trousers and vest, hard felt, hat, and lace- up boots ; native of Derby, is well known to Derby and Nottingham Police, is a sham detective, treats P. C's. on their beats, stating that be is a P. C. from some other part on special duty. Information to Chief Constable Congreve, or to Detective Inspector Wlieaver, Chief Constable's Office, Stafford, from whom the photo of the above may be obtained.— Bow- street, January 18. Stolen in Kendal, on 3rd instant, by means of boring a hole through the window- frame with a gimlet and slipping the latch baek :— a yellow leather Morocco Purse with white metal clasp, containing £ 3 in Gold, 8s. 6J. in Silver, and 5d in Copper, and three wooden Pipes, one with amber mouth- piece, another with white metal top, and the other a common wood pipe ; also an old silver fruit Knife, which has been recovered at Blackpool. Stolen on 4th instant :— a gentleman's gold diamond finger Ring, the diamond a little damaged, aud marked 18 carat gold. Supposed by a man about 26 years of age, a collier, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, very fresh complexion, dark brown hair, cut short, and dark moustache, no whiskers, dark eyes, stout build, round features, aud supposed blue coal mark across bridge of nose, and of emait appearance. He appears to be well acquainted with the principal betting- men aud bookmakers at Sheffield, Macclesfield, Nottingham, Stock- port, Liverpool, Wolveihampton, Derby and Birmingham, and believed to have resided for some time in London. He is supposed to be the same mai who committed a burglary at Stone, Staffordshire, on 21st November last, and who is wanted at Blackpool and oilier places for similar offences. Information to Chief Constable Cotton, Town Hall, Kendal, Westmorland.— Bow- slreet, January 18. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 7.45 and 8.10 p. m., on > 6th instant a gold Watch, white dial, open face, No. 14,808 ; a gold Guard, snake pattern ; a gold enamel and pearl Brooch, with pendant; a small square gold Brooch, set with 15 garnet stones ; a small green Brooch, set with 12 diamonds ; a large opal and diamond Ring, with opal iu centre, and two small diamonds on each side, fancy worked ring ; a hair Bracelet, gold mount box in centre, with hair in ; a Brooch to match ; a pair of long coloured gold square Earrings ; a gold cameo Brooch, with cupid, much worn ; a pair of large size Opera Glasses, white, with stain on side, in leather case ; a pair of gold Earrings with three balls. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Gal! a way, Constabulary Station, Aston, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, January 18. During the night of 11th instant, the Trent Valley Rail- way Station Booking Office, was entered by means of breaking the window, and about £ 8 in Cash stolen, from the cash drawer, which had beeu broken open :— supposed by a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, light hair, light whiskers and moustache, and medium build; dressed in dark cloth cutaway coat, much worr, moleskin trousers, hard round felt hat, and lace- up boots, with brass eyelet holes. Information to Inspector Barrett, Police Office, Bugeley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 16. Stolen on the evening of the 5th instant, at Newington, between 7 and 11 p. m., by breaking a square of glass in a window and forcing the catch back :— an English gold Lever Watch, No. 33145 ; a lady's long gold Cham, a small gold Locket and Chain ; a blue tuiquoise Ring, glass in centie of rim ; a lady's silver Albert, twisted, Prince of Wales pattern ; a gcnt.' s silver Albert, curb pendant, horseshoe ; a silver Fruit Knife, pearl handle, ' E. Spalding' on ditto. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Ellerker, Weiton, or to Inspector Tripp, St. John's- wood, Hull, East Riding Constabulary, Yorkshire, — Bow- street, January 16. Further information respecting JOHN R4. NDALL, advertised in Police Gazette of 4th November last, charged with burglary at Blewbury, Berks :— he was seen at Iver, Buck", on 5th instant, when he said he should go into Wales, he also appears to have dved his hair it being dark brown instead of light; seams of trousers 1J inch broad, double stitched at both edges, he is wearing an almost new pair of navvy boots; looks very red in the face, no whiskers or moustache, sides of face and chin dark, very short neck, has a sullen look ; will be fouod at some large works, or on a new railway. Wanted charged with burglary at Tettenhall, on night of 8th instant:— a man, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet high, dark hair inclined to curl, dark thick moustache, pro- portionate build ; dressed in a black lard hat, or black soft felt hat, dark jacket, with light monkey jacket underneath, brown striped trousers, and supposed elaatic- side boots, part of the stolen property. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Th five Cows advertised in Police Gazette of 18th inst. as stolen from Bulstrode Park, Bucks, have been recovered. — Bow- street, January 20. Wanted on a warrant, charged with stealing a Pony and Harness, at Northwich, Cheshire, on 2nd ultimo:— WALTER BRATHERTON, about 15 years of age, 4 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, and brown eyes, also wanted for absconding from the Bradwall Reformatory School, near Saudbacb, Cheshire ; his father Geo. Bratlierton, resides in Middlewich, and is a labourer; his mother Elizabeth Bratherton, is a washerwoman or charwoman, and resides in Garside- street, off Bridge- street, Manchester, and will probably have a girl with her about 12 years of age, where he is supposed to be frequently visiting. Information to Mr. Supt. Hindley, Middlewich, or to Inspector Millington, Northwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 18. Found at the Wern, on 5th inst. ( supposed stolen) :— a grey waggon horse Colt, 2 yrs. old, white stripe down face and white hind feet ; and a blk. yearling waggon Filly, white stripe down face aud near hind fetlock white. Informatioi to Mr. Supt. Gougli, Ojwestry,— Bow- street. January 18. Wanted on a warrant charged with stealing a sheep from a field jat Ward End, near Birmingham, on 5th Nov. last:— GEORGE MORRIS, late of 13, Henage- street, Bir- mingham, 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, moustache, and slight whiskers down sides of face, shaves chin ; dressed in dark jacket and vest, tweed trousers, hard billycock hat, and usually wears a pair of black leather leggings. He is a hostler and has been principally employed jobbing about, liorse clipping, & c., and no doubt will seek similar employment. Information to Mr Supt. Galloway, Police Station, Aston Park, near Bir. mingham.— Bow- btreet, January 16. Stolen from a stable at Laverick Hall Farm, near Blyth, between 5 aud 7 p. m. on 11th instant:— a cream- coloured gelding Pony, with long white mine and tail, tJi'ik coat of hair, not haviDg been clipped, about 12 hands high, lad feet, which are long and narrow- shaped like those of a donkey, aged 7 years, and is in very good condition ; and a single Bridle with snaffle Bit. A man of whom no description can be given at present, was seen riding the pony away about 6 p. m. same night, towards Horton. A family of hawkers named Nels. n, belonging to Alnwick, consisting of a very old man and his son, and six or eight children, stayed over the night of 11th instant, at Laverick Hall, and they came from about Dewley on that day, and on the following day went north, and had with them a white pony aud covered- in cart. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT St- len from a dwelling- house, at Rusholme, between 5 p. m. and 9.30 p. m. 9th instant:— a black straw Bonnet, trimmed with satin; an old twilled calico Chemise; a twilled cotton Sheet ; a brown worsted Ulster with hood, brown bone buttons, far worn; and a small woollen Shawl; and a pair of lady's old elastic side Boots with toecaps, No. 4 size. By a woman, about 30 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 iucbes high, brown hair, sallow com- plexion, stout build ; dressed in brown winsey dress, grey woollen shawl, blick straw bonnet, with blue ribbon. Infor- mation to County Police Office, Old Tiafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, January 20. Charged on warrant with stealing, on 3rd December last the sum of .£ 15 :— DAN1EG SALTER, late of Bovisand Fort, PJymstock, Devon, gunner, Royal Artillery, native of Chippenham; he has been in the army about two years; he is a carman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout, light brown hair, light moustache, fresh complexion, grey eyes, the right eye inclines inwards; dressed when last seen in the uni- form of the Royal Artillery ; there is little doubt but he has changed his uniform for plain clothes. Information to Mr. Supt. Brutton, Davon Constabulary, H Division, Stonehouse, — Bow- street, January 20. Wanted on a warrant, at Stourbridge, for Embezzling £ 30 :— WM. P. KEILING, a clerk or cashier, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout build, dark complexion, small daik whiskers and moustache, walks a little lame, one leg ( supposed right) being shorter than the other, wears a thick soled boot, about 2i inches thicker than the other boot; generally dreesed in tweed suit of clothes and black hard round bowler hat, sometimes a black frock coat; was formerly employed as a clerk at Messrs. Nick and Son, timber mer- chants, Gloucester. Information to Mr. Supt. Wheeler, Police Office, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, — Bow- street, Janua y 20. The man FREDERICK HARRISON, advertised in Police Gazette of 18th instant, charged ou warrant with stealing Ropes at Noithwich, has been arrested.— Bow- street, January 20. Charged on a warrant with larceny:— THOMAS SHAW, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light complexion, sandy whiskers and moustache, thin face ; dressed in dark coat aud vest, light cord trousers, and haid billy hat, is a fitter by trade, and supposed to be somewhere in the neighbourhood of Chesterfield. Information to Central Station, Nottingham.— Low- street, January 20. Stolen from an hotel, at Derby, on 17th instant:— a pair of light drab Trousers, inclined ' oiagonal pattern, fly fronts, may have name ar. d address ' M. Lawson nod Lancess, Dundee,' on buttons, and not lined ; a pair of Trousers, dark • 8 round with running blue stripe, not very plain, fly fronts fastens at waist with a clasp, not lined, ' Thomas Lancet, Dundee,' on buttons ; a black ribbed cloth Vest, single- breasted, step collar, covered buttons ; a soft clerical Hat, and a white linen Shirt. Supposed by a man 35 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, hair, whiskers and moustache inclined sandy, two top front teeth very pro- minent, carries a black bay, much worn, and an overcoat. Information to Chief Constable Delacombe, Derby.— Bow- ttreet, January 20. Stolen from a photographer's shop at Barnsley, between 5 p. m. 16th, and 9 a. m 17th instant:— a large Lens, maker ' Delmeyer, London'; and a small Lens, maker ' Boss, London.' Supposed by a man who worked a short time at the shop, and left on 2ith ultimo. He is about 30 years of age, 5 feet high, dark complexion, black hair and moustache, wears Lis hair far down his forehead, dark eyes, square built, stated he was a native of Richmond, Surrey, and that he had worked for Banks, Photographer. Manchester, sndfor Parker and Sons, High Holborn, London ; dressed in blk. coat, dark grey trou3ers, black billycock hat, and elastic side hoots. Information to Mr. Supt. Sykes, Barnsley, Yorkshire.— Bow tireet, January 20. Description of FREDERICK BRAMIDGE, wanted on • warrant at Birmingham, eharged with embezzlement:— he is 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, and black hair ; dressed in shabby brown trousers, dark coat or jacket, and brown billycock hat; native of Walsall, Staf- fordshire. May offer himself for enlistment. Information to Mr. Supt. Robinson, Detective Ofiice, Birmingham, War- wickshire.— Bme- ttreer, January 20. Description of a German ( ramping watch and clock maker who left Warminster, Wilts, on 10th instant, charged as bailee with stealing three Watches ( not recovered) a silver single- case Geneva Watsh, a do. verge Watch, and a pinch- beck with glass back to case. He is about 55 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, very grey whiskers, shaved under chin, and black moustache ; dressed in a dark tweed suit, half high black hat, and is likely to be found in low beer- liouaes or lodging- houses; he carries a black leather bag with a stick across his shoulders, containing his tools and shirts, and has in his possession two shirt fronts, one pink coloured, the other white, the latter marked in black ink ' William Ray'; stated he had been a bandmaster in the English Army, and had a daughter residing in Liverpool. The silver Geneva Watch has a piece broken out of dial, and the seconds band missing. Informa'ioa to Mr. Sapt. Perrett, Warminster, Wiltshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- sir est, January 20, Stolen from an Hotel between 6 and 7 p. m., on 16th instant, 5 ladies' Rings :— a black enamel Ring, set with brilliants iD the shape of letter D ; a sma'l diamond Ring, set in claws, small piece chipped off corner ; a gold mourning Ring, with hair and pearls in centre ; a gold Ring, diamond in centre, surrounded with pearls, forget- me- nots each side of pearls ; a gold wedding or dress Ring, cluster of pearls in centre, one of them out; a gold Brooch, shape of necktie, bow knot; and a man's dark blue beaver Overcoat, velvet collar, double breasted, black Italian lining, covered buttons to match, nearly new, had a leather case in side pocket, and a pair | if kid gloves, lined. By a man who gave the name of HORSTLEY, and who had several meals at the house, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, stout build, broad features, slight moustache, light brown side whiskers, shaves on chin ; dressed in light grey tweed suit and black hard billy- hat; carried a small black bag, containing a night shirt, comb and brush, and a pair of slippers ; had the appearance of a builder. Warrant issued. £ o reward will be paid by the owner on recovery of the property and conviction of the thief or thieves, or in pro- portion to the amount recovered. Wanted on a wan ant for stealing a silver lever Watch ( since recovered) on 4th instant, at Winnington, near North- wich : — WILLI AM ROW BOTTOM, 20 or 21 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, slight build, joiner by trade, and is a native of Northwich, Cheshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Hindiey, Middlewich, or to Inspector Millington, 1S1 orthwich, Cheshire. — Bow - street, January 18. Wanted on a warrant charged with larceny as a servant at Burton- on- Trerton lltli instantWALTER WILLI AM. HAIGH, a shopman, 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, small black moustache, no whiskers, dark eyes, stoutish build, slightly bowlegged ; a native of Leicester, married'; dressed in dark coat and vest, brown tweed trousers, low round hard hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Gilbride, Bjrton- on- Trerft.— Bow- street, January 18. Absconded on 12th instant, charged with felony:— ALFRED LEACH, 20 years of ago, 5 feet 1 inch high, fair complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes; dressed in light suit, black haid felt hat, lace boots; a porter, native of Brandon, Suffolk. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, January 18. Absconded from Buxton about 3rd instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 39 10s. :— HENRY HOLT, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, grey eyes, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, sallow complexion, stoops a little when walking, takes snuff and carries a silver snuff- box with his initials on the lid ; has an uncle residing at Whitby, Yorkshire, and another at Belmont- road, Liverpool. Information to Supt. Hallam, Police Office, Chapel- m- le- Frith, Derbyshire.— Bow- st>- eet, January 18. Charged on warrant with stealing 12 silver Tea Spoons and a pair ot Sugar Tongs, all marked ' F.', a brass Cake Stamper, and gold Watch and Guard :— a joiner, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, lower lip prominent, brown hair, blue eyes, three dots between thumb and finger left hand, blue ring round 2udand 3rd firrgers left hand, ring on 2nd fioger right hand, and mole on back of neck. Information to Chief Constable Pole, Halifax, York- shire.— Bow- street, January 18, Amended description of the person who broke and entered a dwelling- house at Blackpool, on the night of 6th instant,, advertised in the Police Gazette of 9th instant:— 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair and moustache, proportionate build, has a blue mark across the bridge of nose, is a native of Lancashire and a miner, and is well acquainted with betting men in Man- chester, Livemool, Knd other towns. He can be identified. He left behind him a black billycock hat, low crown, 7 size, marked ' Best London Manufacture,' a black morocco pipe case, lined with red velvet, a silver fruit knife, mother o'pearl handle, marked on the handle ' B. Jam~ s.' Information to P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. the Superintendent of County Police Office, Kirlham, L. m- cashire.— Bow- street, January 16. Stolen from the Red Lion Hotel, Boston, on 12th in3t. : — a Bridle, two horse Clipping Machines, & c. ( recovered) ; a light material pepper and salt coloured long Overcoat, one pocket each side in seam, one inside left breast, grey lining, buttons covered same colour as coat, and parly worn ; a pair of large Scissors, and a black and white check Scarf. By a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion and hair, clean shaved, and thin face ; dressed in a dark brown jacket coat, out at elbows,' long' blue vest, drab cloth corded trousers, fitting tight, or a pair like his coat, out at knees and seat, strong lace- up boots broken at one side, drab double- peaked cap, or black hard felt hat, with ' Mode e'e Paris' inside; and dark coloured muffler; a » room, and supposed a native of London. He left Spalding on* 14th instant on foot, and was wearing the stolen coat. Information to Head Constable Bellamy, Boston, Lincoln- shire.— Bow- street, January 10. JAMB 3 McPHERSON DICK, wanted on a warrant at Birmingham, for larceny of a seal- skin Jacket from Joseph Kanreuther, Merchant, 60, Parade, Birmingham.
