Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, ii; is indispensably necessary that ui information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all I„ etter » addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The • mount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by t'ne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without \ h « apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Wanted on a charge of Murder JOHN ROSS, alias CUNNINGHAM, alias LOFTHOUSE, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark brown hair, dark eyes, fresh complexion, prominent forehead, dark eyebrows, sunken eyes, slight moustache, mole on left shoulder, and squints ; is a hawker, born at Leeds, but of Irish descent; dressed in a pair of dark cord trousers, bell bottoms, slightly frayed, shabby black coat and vest, Turkey red plaid scarf, dirty shirt,^ old shoes, rough bully cap with knob at top ; has aunts, • who go by the name of Ross, residing near Chain Street, White Abbey, Bradford ; has been several times convicted of felony and other offences, aud is supposed to be - well known to the police at Bradford and the West Riding generally. Stolen by means of housebreaking:, about noon on 25th, inst., at Fulbourn :— 12 Sovereigns. By GEO. CLEMENTS, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair com- plexion, light brown hair and slight moustache ; dressed in a dark mixture suit, brown hard felt hat, and cloth shoes. He is supposed to have been employed until very recently at the Great Western Hotel at Birmingham. He was accompanied by a young man about the same age and height, with dark brown hair ; dressed in a suit of clothes very much like that worn by Clements. Stolen by means of burglary, between 1 and 7 a m. on 25th instant, near Abingdon : — a lady's gold Albert Chain ; two ladies Rings, one " set with single pearl, the other with ruby ; a silver filagree maltese Brooch, form of a butterfly, with tassels pendaut; a pair of gold Ear drops, set with rubies; a gent's silver hunting Watch, lever; a lady's gold lever Watch, gold face ; a pair of silver Spectacles, antique ; a gold watch Key, initials ' M. W.' on end to form stamp ; a silver Medalion, on adverse ' G. J. Rolfes' on reverse Arms of City of London ; a brown leather Case, about 4 ius. long, containing four silver Coins, Id , 2d., 3d., aud 4d. Pieces, 1876; a 4d. Piece of George II; a meerschaum Pipe, carved— lady putting on her stocking, silver band, clouded amber mouth- piece ; a pair of gold Eye- glasses, maker's name ' Hawe's, Leadenhall- street' engraved on bridge ; an American Knife, all steel, three blades, cork » crew, and wire cutter ; a magni- fying Glass, with black bone handle, glass slightly damaged round edge; a black satin tobacco Pouch, with a box of cigars, pipe, an old man smoking, aud initials ' H. W.' worked on side with goldthread; a white silk Scarf, large size ; three cut glass Decanters, containing Iiish Whiskey; a BJX ot Cigars, and a quantity of Tobacco; a silver shawl Pin, brooch pattern ; a dark tweed Coat, three outside pockets, containing an india- rubber tobacco Pouch, with steel clasp ; a pair of Spectacles, steel frames, crystal glasses, makers Howe and Thornwaite, Strand, on case ; a grey cloth Overcoat; an ivory Pencil- rase, Perry's patent ; a pair of white cotton Drawers ; a white flannel Petticoat, nearly new; a black and white check Shirt, new ; a white Sock ; a small Microscope, with powerful lense ; a brown leather Purse, old, containing Half Sovereign and 7s. 6d. in Silver; about £ o2 in Gold, Silver, aud Bronze Coins ; a 5 cent Piece, 1819 ; several small silver Coins, witli holes in them ; a pocket Knite, 3 blades, maker Davis, Leadenhall- street. A small chisel with name ' T. Spickett' stamped iu two places on handle, was left in the houso by the burglars. Information to Mr. Supt. Bedger, County Police Station, Abingdon, Berks.— Bow- street, Dec. 28. A cottage at Charlcombe was entered on the night of 26th instant, and stolen therein:— a man's black Witney cloth Overcoat; a do. pair of lace- up Boots, tips on heels, no nails ; a pair carpet Slippers ; a light blue woollen Wrap ; a white Counterpane, old ; several pairs of Sheets ; aud some Pillow- cases, marked ' F. C.' in ink. Information to Mr. Supt. Morgan, Weston, near Bath, Somerset.— Bow- street, December 28. Stolen from a lock up shop at Fleetwood, between 8 p. m. the 23rd and 8.30 a. m. 24th iust:— a black japan tin Cash- box with gilt rim ( Chubbs' patent) about 10 inches long, 6 inches wide and 5 inches deep, containing about £ 6 in Silver ; a Bank- book and a Cheque- hook on the Lancaster Band, and other Papers ; a black tin Box, about 6 inches long, 4 inches wide and 2 inches deep, containing duplicate Cheques, referring to sales of articles from the shop ; a man's yellow oilskin Jacket, collar lined with green flannel, has 5 large white bone buttons on each side, the price mark 6/ 6 written with ink inside skirt. Entrance effected by breaking a square of glass in the back window ; a quantity of blood was left on the wii dow framo. Stolen by means of housebreaking on the night of 16th instant, from Clarence Cottage, Carey- place, Watford :— six silver tea Spoons ; a pair of sugar Tongs, all marked ' R. S. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING The Horse, supposed stolen from Build was, Salop, on the 19th inst., and advertized in Police Gazette ou the 23rd inst. has been found drowned in the river Severn.— Bow- street, December 30. Stolen from a sheep fold at New House Farm, Eastdean, on the night of 24th, or morning of 25th ir stant :— a south- down Ewe, with letter ' H ' on off side in blue paint. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Stolen from a meadow at Sevenoaks, during the night of 22ud instant :— a Welsh roan Poiiy, black points and muzzle, 13 hands high, rising 4 years old, rough coat, and star iu forehead. Information to Mr. Supt. O'Kill, Police Station, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- ureet. December 27. Oa 9lh instant, 9 Sneep, the property of William H Fowle, Esq, were maliciously killed in the Fold at Chute Lodge, Wilis. £ 100 reward will be paid ( in addition to the reward of i' 50 already offered), to any person who should give such information as would lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to Mr. Supt. Pierce Marlborough, Wilts.— Bow- sireet, December 27. Stolen from a stable at Powick, on the evening of 17th instant;— a dark brown cart Mare, aged, nearly 16 hands high, white hind fetlocks, little white" on face, thin switch tail, long mane, rather full of hair on top of hoof of off fore- leg, in good condition, and narrow shod all round.' £ 2 reward will be paid by Mr. W. Lane, the owner, Powick, near Wor- cester, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the Mare. Stolen from a carpenter's shop between 5 p m. on 22nd and 8 a. m. on 23rd iustan', at Aidingly, Sussex:— an Oil- stone ; I dusting Brush ; 1 spoke Shave ; 1 2ft. Rule ; 1 plough Plane ; 2 tenon Saws, one quite new with brass back ; 2 Squares, one 7 inch and one 6 inch ; I glazier's Diamond ; 3 Chisels, one If, another 1 J, and another 1| inch ; 1 green baize Bag, Stock aud Bits ; all but the new tenon Saw marked ' T. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Descripton of THOMAS IRWIN, late brewers traveller, charged with embezzlement, who absconded on 7th Oct. : — 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, proportinate build, [ sallow complexion, broad shoulders, dark brown hair aud whiskers, the latter cut very short, grey eyes, rather pimpled face ; supposed to be wearing a dark green suit and black felt hat; native of Kendal ; has left his wife and child here ; has been iii the army, aud was a member of the Kendal Rifle Volunteers ; fond of drink and chewing tobacco ; has a brother in Australia. Wanted for robbing her lodging, at Wokingham, on 28th instant, of 3 white calico Chemises ( one unbleached), 1 pair white calico Drawers ( crochet work on bottom), I white- calico Bod?, 1 pair black Stays, yellow work on them, black fur bat, red and black ribbon, black alpaca Dress, black satin Shawl:— a woman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 iucl^ shigh, slender made, brown hair, fresh complexion, thin face ; dressed in black cherry- ripe hat, trimmed with dark plum- coloured ribbon, two white lace rosettes iu front, black coburg jacket, seaweed fringe and lace, the stolen dress, white neckerchief, side- spring bouts, patch ou side. Stolen from a dwelling house at Standish. between 10 a. m. and 5 p. m. 26th instant:— a silver lever Watch, No. 1 287 makers name ' Thomas Milner, Wigan,' and has the name ' John Bladburn' engraved inside the back case, silver dial 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. December 2 8 and second hands, black hour and minute hands, had attached a gold albert Guard, of curb pattern, Supposed by a navvy • who lodged in the house, he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, black whiskers down sides of face, and under his chin ; dressed iu an old blue pilot coat, and vest, moleskin trousers, lace- up boots, and soft billycock hat, his right wrist has been recently scalded, and he has an old handkerchief tied round it. Beetham, County Police Office, Chorley.— Bow- street, Dec. 30 Wanted by warrant for having on 4th ultimo, stolen a quantity of Rope :- JOSEPH STANLEY MUSGROVE, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender build, fiesh complexiow, fail hair, full whiskers and moustache of sandy hue, smart active gait, walks erect, head thrown well back. Is well known about Commercial Road, London. Has a wife and four children, all girls fair haired, one is an infant in arms. Musgrove is very apt in repairing of boats and yachts, and may seek employment in connection with some yachting club. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Withington. between 7 and 7' 20 p. m. 21st instant:— a gent's gold lever Watch, gold dial and fingers, seconds finger, one of the fingers has a little broken otf, swivel almost worn through at the top, also worn smooth at the back, the name of ' Taylor ' scratched on inside case. By a sailor, who has been staying with his parents at 23, Clifton- road, Eccles :— about 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 ins. high, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a suit of blue cloth, and cap with gold band. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, December 27. Charged on warrant with larceny as a bailee of an English silver lever Watch ( not recovered) :— HENRI WILLIAMS, alias ANDREKUS, about 31 year3 of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, small dark eyes, black frizzy hair, black moustache, no whiskers, face very black from shaving, proportionate figure ; is a native of Belgium, and speaks with a strong foreiga accent; dressed in a black diagonal morning coat, small check brown tweed trousers, may have vest on like either coat or trousers, had on top a blue reefing jacket which is rather long for him, drab tie with red spots, white duck collar, black hard felt hat, and rather strong laced boots. He is a tramping clock and watch maker, aud generally lodges at common or model lodgiug houses. No. of Watch 645G, maker's name on works ' H. and J. Barker, Easingwold,' white d'al, small piece broken off end of large pointer, steel Albert with two common Keys attached. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Stolen at Fenton, between 6 and 7 a. m. on 16th instant: —£ 1 4s. 6d in Gold and Silver ; a black leather Purse ; and a gent's gold signet Ring, with bloodstone in centre. By a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, slender build, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes, no whiskers or mous- tache, cut mark under left eye, blue mark on bottom lip, lost front tooth of top jaw ; dressed in plaid tweed jacket, pepper- and- salt coloured vest, canvass trousers, such as painter's wear, hoiler- end hat. aud old clogs. Supposed to have gone to Manchester. Information to Mr. Supt. McWilliams, Longton, or to Inspector Macrory, Fenton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, December 23. Absconded on 12th inst., from Radstock, charged on Warrant with stealing two pieces of Timber ( recovered) :— MARK CHIVERS, of Clandown, Radstock, 38 to 40 years of age, engine- driver, 5 ft. 6 inches high, light complexion, light hair aid moustache, clean shaved, stout build, pugilist appearance, nose broken. Most likely to be working as a navvy or in some Colliery. Supposed to be in Bristol or some part of Wales. Information to Sergent Westcntt, Police Station, Kilmersdon, near Bath, or to A. S. Lewis, Radstock, near Bath.— Bow- street, December 23. Absconded from Luton, on 19th instant, charged with larceny :— WILLIAM ADAMS, a navvy, 42 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, little or no beard, scar on nose ; dressed in blue serge jacket, cord trousers, and soft felt hat. Information to Head Constable Jaquest, Borough Police Luton, who holds a warrant for his arrest. — Bow- street, December 23. Stolen at 1' 30 p. m. on 19th instant, from a clothes line at Stoke Goldington :— four unbleached calico Shirts, men's size; three ditto Chemise, with braid on collar and fronts ; and a white calico Night- dress. By a man about 40 years of age, beard and moustache ; dressed in pilot coat, fustian trousers, aud low felt hat; was accompanied by a woman, about 35 years of age, wearing a black jacket, rather long, a black dress, and black hat, with a red bow in front. Information to Inspector Moore, Newport Pagnel, Backs.— Bmo- st, Dec. 23. Wanted by warrant for embezzling £' i 9s. 6d. :— JOHN HYLAND, a draper's porter, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout build, black hair and moustache, red blotched face, swinging gaitf"; dies ed in a suit of black corded porters uniform. Information to Chief Superintendent Williams, Liverpool.— Bow- street, December 23. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. A- nended description of JAMES SUTTON, alias JAS. LUNN BOWLEY, alias JAMES LUNN, wanted at Kendal, on a warrant, charging him with obtaining Money by false pretences :— about 47 years of age, 5 feet 9i inches high, fair complexion, light hair, light grey eyes, full face, sandy whis- kers and moustache, bald head, lather stoutish build, high forehead, weak kneed, said he hia heart disease ; dressed iu a shabby blue pilot overcoat, with velvet collar, black diagonal cloth undercoat, dark mixture trousers, lace- up boots, broad brimmed soft felt hat, and tartan plaid scarf; lie also obtained board and lodgings, absconding without paying for them; stated that he was a wholesale provision dealer, and also a cattle dealer, and was very conversant with the furness district; was convicted at Morpeth, Northumberland, in 1879, in the name of James Lunn Bowley, for a similar offence, and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment, he thpn stated he was a native of Crosskellogg, near Pontypool, Mon- mouthshire. Absconded, charged with obtaining a Horse and Cart by frard i- JOSHUA BENNETT, 26 years of age, 6 feet 8 ins. high, dark complexion and moustache, slight, lost three middle fiugers of right hand; dressed in black coat, cord trousers, felt hat. Can be identified. Warrant issued. In- formation to " the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, December 23. Wanted for obtaining Money under false pretences, by selling Tickets at Is. each, stating that they were for a Christmas Draw, which would take place at the Star Ion, Ashton- under- Lyne, on 21st instant :— he is about 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportionate build, cross eyed, cdight dark moustache ; dressed in dark mixture clothes, aud black hard felt hat. Information to Chief Con- stable Dalgliesh, Ashton- under- Lyne.— Bow- street, Dec. 23.
