Motlce.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Sfgnatare of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. # » * Whenever it is desired that any person eheuld be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary tkat an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offenoe charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid., otherwise the insertion will not bo made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Doserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should bo signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tie persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without ihe apprehension of the offender. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Wanted on a charge of Murder :— JOHN ROSS, alias CUNNINGHAM, alias LOFTHOUSE, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark brown hair, dark eyes, fresh complexion, prominent forehead, dark eyebrows, sunken eyes, slight moustache, mole on left shoulder, and squints; is a hawker, born at Leeds, but of Irish descent; dressed in a pair of dark cord trcusera, bell bottoms, slightly frayed, shabby black coat and vest, Turkey red plaid scarf, dirty shirt, gold, shoes, rough bully cap with knob at top ; has aunts, who go by the name of Ross, residing near Chain Street, White Abbey, Bradford ; has been several times convicted of felony and other offences, and is supposed to be well known to the police at Bradford and the West Riding generally. Stolen from the person at Preston, on night of 17th instant:— a silver Geveva Watch, No. 15744. Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Office, Preston, — Bow- street, December 21. Stolen from the person at Wolstanton, on 11th instant a gold hunter lever Watch, gold dial, No. 7420, had attached a gold Albert, curb pattern, and a gold £ 2 Piece, dated 1823, with George and Dragon on one side. Information to Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., Deo. 21. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. on side with gold thread; a white silk Scarf, large size; three cut glass Decanters, containing Irish Whiskey; a Box of Cigars, and a quantity of Tobacco.; a silver shawl Pin, brooch pattern; a dark tweed Coat, three outside pockets, containing an india- rubber tobacco Pouch, with steel clasp ; a pair of Spectacles, steel frames, crystal glasses, makers Howe and Thornwaite, Strand, on case ; a grey cloth Overcoat; an ivory Pencil- case, Perry's patent; a pair of white cotton Drawers ; a white flannel Petticoat, nearly new; a black and white check Shirt, new; a white Sock ; a small Microscope, with powerful lense; a brown leather Purse, old, containing Half Sovereign and 7s. 6d. iu Silver; about £ 52 in Gold, Silver, and Bronze Coins ; a 5 cent Piece, 1819 ; several small silver Coins, with holes in them ; a pocket Knife, 3 blades, maker Davis, Leadenhall- street. A small chisel with name T. Spickett' stamped in two places'on handle, was left in the house by the burglars. Information to Mr. Supt. Hedger, County Police Station, Abingdon, Berks.— Bow- street, Dec. 28. JOHN DRAPER, advertised in the Police Gazette of 2nd instant, charged with housebreaking, at Yelden, Beds, is apprehended, the Sheets and Skirt only recovered. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Carruthers, Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire.— - Bow- street, December 28. A cottage at Charlcombe was entered on the night of 26th instant, and stolen therein:— a man's black Witney cloth Overcoat; a do. pair of lace- up Boots, tips on heels, no nails ; a pair carpet Slippers; a light blue woollen Wrap ; a white Counterpane, old ; several pairs of Sheets ; and some Pillow- cases, marked ' P. C.' in ink. Information to Mr. Supt. Morgan, Weston, near Bath, Somerset.— Bow- street, December 28, On 21st instant, between 8 and 9 p. m., the mansion of the Lord Essex was entered, and stolen therein:— a gold repeater Watch, No. 3349, makers name Dwerryhouse and Bell, white face and a second hand ; a long gold Chain; a gold pen Case with bloodstone, engraved with a mitre at the end, contained a Pencil as well as a Pen, and when closed would be about 2 ins. long, had small ring attached ; enamel Watch, Chain and Locket ; a large gold Locket, set with pearls and diamonds ; a gold Bracelet, set with pearls and diamonds ; enamel Pendant, set in diamonds; ruby and diamond Brooch; gold Bracelet set with onyx ; a broad gold Chain ; a Necklace of small pearls, fastened by ordinary gold clasp. Stolen from a carpenter's shop between 5 p m. on 22nd and 8 a. m. on 23rd instant, at Ardingly, Sussex:— an Oil- stone ; 1 dusting Brush; 1 spoke 8have; 1 2ft. Rule ; 1 plough Plane ; 2 tenon Saws, one quite new with brass back; 2 Squares, one 7 inch and one C inch; 1 glazier's Diamond ; 3 Chisels, one If, another 1J, and another 1| inch ; 1 green baize Bag, Stock and Bits; all but the new tenon Saw marked T. Dumsday.' Information to the Chief Constables Office, Lewes ; or to Mr. Supt. Amos Avery, Cuckfield.— Bow- street, December 27. outside left breast, ticket pocket right side, black lining, and print do. in sleeves, black bone buttons down front, two behind ; a do. Test, inside lining stained with the dye from the lining outside at back, little soiled at pockets; a pair of Trousers to match, has black iron buttons thereon, and fly front, all part worn, and to fit a little man; a round silver Brooch, with a large red stone in centre, and 2 or 3 small white ones round it; a silver imitation snake Brooch, with 2 or 3 white stoies let in. Information at Borough Police Office, Stockport.— Bow- street, Dec. 21. Stolen from a dwelling house at Moss Side, between 7 and 10 p. m. 13th instant:— a dark marble Timepiece, gold gilded, small white round dial; an alarm Timepiece, wooden frame, with ' ,1. F. Wood' on face ; a lady's old silver Geneva Watch, dial cracked; a pair of brass Ear- rings, set with jet and Irish bog oak ; a rosewood writing Desk, with an ivory strij) round lid, and one ivory dot on each corner of lid, con- taining a Life Policy of Esther Young, on the Wesleyan and General Society, and a Life Policy of Harvey Sydney Young, on the Prudential Assurance Company; a family Bible, with coloured plates and clasps ; a small wood Box, hinges loose; a lady's dark tweed Ulster, with dark silk- covered buttons, far worn; a gent's union Umbrella, light wood handle, with light coloured knob. Piece of George II; a meerschaum Pipe, carved— lady putting on her stocking, silver band, clouded amber mouth- piece ; a pair of gold Eye- glasses, maker's name ' H awe's, Leadeiiliali- street' engraved on bridge ; an American Knife, all steel, three blades, corkscrew, and wire cutter ; a magni- fying Glass, with black bone handle, glass slightly damaged round edge; a black satin tobacco Pouch, , with a box of cigars, pipe, an old man smoking, and initials' H. W.' worked About 13th instant a house at Heveningham was broken and entered and stolen therein :— a pair of Blankets ; 2 black and white plaid Shawls ; a scarlet and white ditto; a violet woollen Cross- over ; a black silk Jacket; 11 yards of black Silk ; 2 women's Night- dresses; 3 Chemises ; 6 hack- aback Towels ; 6 unmade baby Towels; a black silk Polonaise; a violet Overskirt; a pair of white calico Sheets ; 2 full- bosom white Skirts ; an 8- day Time- piece; a pair of silver Candle- sticks ; 5 electro- plated; Tea- spoons ; a pair of Sugar Tongs ( electro- plated); a Salt Spoon; most of these articles of Wearing Apparel are marked with tho initials ' E. C.' or ' E. Copping.' Information to Mr. Supt. Gobbett, Hales- worth, Suffolk.— Bow- street, Decsmbt,! 27. Stolen from a lock up shop at Fleetwood, between 8 p. m. the 23rd and 8.30 a. m. 24th inst:— a black japan tin Cash- box with gilt rim ( Chubbs' patent) about 10 inches long, 6 inches wide and 5 inches deep, containing about £ G in Silver ; a Bank- book tnd a Cheque- book on the Lancaster Band, and other Papers ; a black tin Box, about 6 inches long, 4 inches wide and 2 inches deep, containing duplicate Cheques, referring to sales of articles from the shop ; a man's yellow oilskin Jacket, collar lined with green flannel, has 5 large white bone buttons on each side, the price mark 6/ 6 written with ink inside skirt. Entrance effected by breaking a square of glass in the back window ; a quantity of blood was left on the window frame. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING; Stolen from a sheep fold at New House Farm, Eastdean, on the night of 24th, or morning of 25th it stant :— a south- down Ewe, with letter 1 H' on off side in blue paint. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Lucas, County Police Station, Chichester. — Bow- street, December 28, JOHN STEPHEN ANDREWS, advertised in Police Gazette of 12th instant and subsequent dates, charged with stealing a Mare, ( recovered) at Linton, near Ross, Hereford- shire, has been apprehended by the Metropolitan Police on 25th iostaSt^ fcud is now in custody at Ross.— iJc. r street, Decembsr 28. JOSEPH FINNIGAN, alias JOE THE DROVER, alias JOSEPH DAWSON, alias JOSEPH THOMAS, advertised iu the Police Gazette of 18th and 28th ultimo, was arrested at Stowe- on- the- Wold, by Sergeant Shipton, on 21st instant, and is committed for trial at the Quarter Ses- sions for Radnor, on 5th proximo. Information to the Chief Constable, Penybont, Radnorshire.— Bow- street, December 28. Stolen from a meadow at Sevenoaks, during the night of 22 nd instant:— a Welsh roan Pony, black points and muzzle, 13 hands high, rising 4 years old, rough coat, and star in forehead. Information to Mr. Supt. O'Kill, Police Station, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, December 27. On 9th instant, 9 Sheep, the property of William H Fowle, Esq., were maliciously killed in the Fold at Chute Lodge, Wilts. £ 100 reward will be paid ( in addition to the reward of £ 50 already offered), to any person who should give such information as would lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to Mr. Supt. Pierce, Marlborough, Wilts.— Bow- street, December 27. Stolen from a field at Buildwas, Salop, during the night of 19th iustant:— a brown cob horse, rising 3 years old, about 14 hands high, black points, hi fair condition, and very rough coated. £ 2 reward will be paid by Mr. Thorn an Yaughn of Buildwas, to any person or persons giving information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the horse. Informa- tion to Mr. Chief Supt. Ivins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Turner, Ironbridge, Salop.— Bow- street, December 23. Stolen by means of housebreaking on the niglrt of 16th instant, from Clarence Cottage, Carey- place, Watford :— six silver tea Spoons ; a pair of sugar Tongs, all marked ' R. S. C.'; and 4s. Gd. in Silver. Information to Mr. Supt. Isgate, Watford, Herts.— Bow- street, Decemb » r 23. Stolen at Nottingham, by means of burglary, during the night of 16tli or morning of 17th instant:— a dozen electro- plated or Nickel Tea Spoons ; 2 do. do. Table Spoons; 8 do. do. Dessert Spoons ; a dozen electro- plated Nickel Forks ; 2 do. do. Gravy Ladles ; 2 do. do. Salt Spoons; a do. do. Marmalade Spoon ; 1 do. do. Sardine Scoop; and a bread Knife — all fiddle pattern. Information to Acting Chief Con- stdble Court, Nottingham,— Bow- street, December 21. Stolen by housebreaking, between 3 p. m. on 13th, and 4 p. m. on 16th instant, by means of unlocking the door with a key :— a suit of men's dark tweed Clothes, and 2 silver Brooches, viz, a man's morning Coat, two pockets at side, one Stolen from a stable at Powick, on the evening of 17th instant:— a dark brown cart Mare, aged, nearly 16 hands high, white hind fetlocks, little white on face, thin switch tail, long mane, rather full of hair on top of hoofj of off fore- leg, in good condition, and narrow shod all round. £ 2 reward will be paid by Mr. W. Lane, the owner, Powick, near Wor cester, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of tho Mare. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Checketts, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, December 23. Wanted for stealing at Little Missenden, on the night of 5th instant, a young Steer and six Sturks, about 2 yrs. old : — a man, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, with sores or blood moles on face, dark brown hair, rather long and ragged, slight dark moustache and whiskers, slender build ; dressed in dark clothes, dark over- coat ( supposed a waterproof), black round hard hat, light lace- up boots, one of which was broken at the too. At 4 p. m. on 5th iustant, the man described, engaged a drover at Great Berkhamstead, to go with him to Little Missenden, where they took the cattle out of tiie meadow, and drove them to Watford, arrived there at 5 30 a. m. on 6th, they were put in Mr. Didsbury's auction sale, and a cheque for £ 51 9s. 6d. was given him which he endorsed in the name of ' J. Manning,' and obtained cash for the same; this man answers the description of the one wanted for stealing twenty- four Bullocks at Grofton Regis, Northamptonshire, in November last. December 28 LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Wanted by warrant for having on 4th ultimo, stolen a quantity of Rope :- JOSEPH STANLEY MUSGROVE, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 0 or 10 inches high, slender build, fresh complexion, fail hair, full whiskers and moustache of sandy hue, smart active gait, walks erect, head thrown well back. Is well known about Commercial Road, London. Has a wife and four children, all girls fair haired, one is an infant in arras. Musgrove is very apt in repairing of boats and yachts, and may seek employment in connection with some yachting club. Information to Chief Superintendent Williams, Liverpool.— Bow- street, December 27. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Wellington, between 7 and 7' 20 p. m. 21st instant:— a gent's gold lever Watch, gold dial and fingers, seconds finger, one of the fiugers has a little broken off, swivel almost worn through at the top, also worn smooth at the back, the name of Taylor ' scratched on inside case. By a sailor, who lias been staying witli his parents at 23, Clifton- road, Eccles :— about 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 ins. high, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in a suit of blue clolh, and cap with gold band. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, December 27. Charged on warrant with larceny as a bailee of an English silver lever Watcli ( not recovered): — HENRI WILLIAMS, alias ANDREKUS, about 31 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, small dark eyes, black frizzy hair, black moustache, no whiskers, face very black from shaving, proportionate figure ; is a native of Belgium, and speaks with a strong foreign accent; dressed in a black diagonal morning coat, small check brown tweed trousers, may have vest on like either coat or trousers, had on top a blue reefing jacket which is rather long for him, drab tie with red spots, white duck collar, black hard felt hat, and rather strong laced boots. He is a tramping clock and watch maker, and generally lodges at common or model lodging houses. No. of Watch 645G, maker's name on works ' H. and J. Barker, Easingwold,' white dial, small piece broken off end of large pointer, steel Albert with two common Keys attached. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Hutchinson, North Riding Con- stabulary, Hewortli, Yorkshire, or to Inspector Wright, Police Station, Easingwold, who holds the warrant for his arrest.— Bovi- street, December 23. Stolen at Fenton, between 6 and 7 a. m. on 16th instant: —£\ 4s. 6d. in Gold and Silver; a black leather Purse; and a gent's gold signet Ring, with bloodstone in centre. By a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, slender build, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes, no whiskers or mous- tache, cut mark under left eye, blue mark on bottom lip, lost front tooth of top jaw ; dressed in plaid tweed jacket, pepper- and- salt coloured vest, canvass trousers, such as painter's wear, hoiler- end hat, and old clogs. Supposed to have gone to Manchester. Information to Mr. Supt. McWilliams, Longton, or to Inspector Macrory, Fenton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, December 23. Absconded on 12th inst., from Radstock, charged on Warrant with stealing two pieces of Timber ( recovered) :— MARK CHIVERS, of Clandown, Radstock, 38 to 40 years of age, engine- driver, 5 ft. 6 inches high, light complexion, light hair ai d moustache, clean shaved, stout build, pugilist appearance, nose broken. Most likely to be working as a navvy or in some Colliery. Supposed to be in Bristol or some part of Wales. Information to Sergent Westcntt, Police Station, Kilmersdon, near Bath, or to A. S. Lawia, Radstock, near Bath.— Bow- street, December 23. Absconded from Luton, on 19th instant, charged with larceny :— WILLIAM ADAMS, a navvy, 42 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, btout build, little or no beard, scar on nose ; dressed in blue serge jacket, cord trousers, and soft felt hat. Information to Head Constable Jaquest, Borough Police Luton, who holds a warrant for hi* arrest. — Bow- street, December 23. Stolen at 1' 30 p. m. on 19th instant, from a clothes line at Stoke Goldington :— four unbleached calico Shirts, men's size; three ditto Chemise, with braid on collar and fronts ; and a white calico Night- dress. By a man about 40 years of age, beard and moustache ; dressed in pilot coat, fustian trousers, and low felt hat; was accompanied by a woman, about 35 years of age, wearing a black jacket, rather long, a black dress, and black hat, with a red bow in front. Information to Inspector Moore, Newport Pagnel, Bucks.— Bow- st, Dec. 23. Wanted by warrant for embezzling £ 3 9s. 6d. :— JOHN HYLAND, a draper's porter, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 iuclies high, stout build, black hair and moustache, red blotched face, swinging gait]; dressed in a suit of black corded porters uniform. Information to Chief Superintendent Williams, Liverpool.— Bow- street, December 23. Stolen at 5' 30 p. m. on 13th instant, at Woodlands Park, Timperley, near Altrincham:— a man's grey woollen Shirt, a man's white linen night Shirt, marked ' H. Lomas' ; a lady's white linen night Dress, marked ' J. W. Sargeant.' By a man and 2 boys, tramps, the boys called at Mr. Lomas's house, to beg alms, their ages avo about 10 or 11 years of age, the man seen was dressed like a stonemason. Information to Chief Inspector Leighton, County Police, Sale, Cheshire.— ' low- street, December 21. Further information respecting GEORGE RAMSELL, alias BOTH, advertised in Police Gazette of 18th November, 1880, wanted on a warrant charged with stealing a Watch ( recovered) on 30th October, 1880 :— Ramsell was seen in Shrewsbury on 16th instant, dressed iu old brown jacket, dark trousers and jimcrow hat. For further description see Police Gazette for the above date. He is likely to be found tramping the country and sleeping in common lodging- houses. Information to Mr. Supt. Edwards, County Constabulary, Shrewsbury, Salop.— Bow- street, December 21 FELONIES. (. Not otherwise described.) Wanted for outrage on a little girl on 2Gtli ultimo a man, about 40 years of age, looks younger, 5 feet 8i inches high, daik complexion, slight dark whiskers and moustache, dark brown hair, bald top of head, tuft of hair between bald places, stout figure, has a cut scar on forehead, several scars on back part of head ; has worked as waggon rider at collieries in the counties of Durham and Northumberland ; dressed in dark check tweed coat, fastened with boot laces at top and bottom, it being without buttons, fustian vest and trousers, Scotch cap with peak, and small knot on top, boots much worn, with heel plates. It has been ascertained that the above- named, on the night of the outrage, called at Allerdean Colliery, near Low Fell, without his cap, and stayed there till 11 a. m. 27th ultimo. He stated that he was going to Tow Law to seek employment. He was convicted at Durham Quarter Sessions on 31st December, 1877, and sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for an indecent assault at Houghton- le- Spring, and has also undergone 3 mouths imprisonment for an attempted rape on a little girl at Chester- le- Street. He is well known at Washington and Usworth Collieries. .£ 100 reward will be paid by the Watch Committe of the Borough to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender. Information to Chief Constable Elliott, Gateahead, Durham.— Bow- street, December 21. FEAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded, charged with obtaining a Horse and Cart by fraud - JOSHUA BENNETT, 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 ins. high, dark complexion and moustache, slight, lost three middle fingers of right hand; dressed in black coat, cord trousers, felt hat.
