Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, tegether with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made, The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisemeats offeri » g rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. INFORMATIONS. to Mr. Supt. Harper, Driffield.— Bow- street, BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 8 and 10 p m., on 26th ultimo., the dwelling- house of William Pegg, at Comhill- cross, Leek, was broken into, and a Boston silver lever Watch, and about £ 30 in Gold coin stolen therein ; the Watch was an open- face lever, cream- coloui ed dial, without a glass, and the small hand broken, maker's name and number unknown. Information to Mr. Supt. Williams, Leek, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., Dec. 2. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING The black Mare, advertised in Police Gazette of 21st ultimo, supposed stolen from Leominster, has since been recovered.— Bow- street, December 5. Supposed stolen from Chadmore Common. Hednesford, between 7 p. m. 19th and 9 a. m., 20th ultimo. :— a brown horse Pony, aged, in rather poor condition, about, 11 bands 2 inches high, black legs, broken knees, white streak on fore- head, head going grey. Information to Police Station, Hednesford, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, December 2. Stolen during the night of 26th instant, from a meadow at Eynsford, Kent:— a black nag Mare, 3 years old, about 14 hands high, was clipped early in the season, mane cut short, and iu good condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Webster, Kent Constabulary, Dartford. — Bow- street, Nov. 30. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Some person, about 6 p. m. on 2nd instant, maliciously set fire to a stack of Straw OH the premises of Mr. George Cottle, of West Felt on, who will give £ 5 reward to such person who will give information as shall lead to the convic- tion of the offender. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, December 5. FORGERY. Wanted on a charge of forging a Cheque and obtaining £ 79 10s. at Dale and Young's Bank, Jarrow, on 25th ultimo, 1881, and absconded on 26th, about 12 a m. from Gateshead : — ALEXANDER FISHER., 40 years of age, 6 ft. 1 or 2 ins. high, walks very erect, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, large whiskers and moustache; may have shaved off beard, proportionate figure, residence— Jarrow, a bricklayer, married, a native of Perth, Scftland, but has been many years in England ; dressed in grey clothes, may have obtained new clothing. He was fonnan for John Smith, builder and contractor ; has worked at many places in the counties of Durham. Northumberlnd, Cumberland, York, London, Liverpool, Hull, and several large towns in England and Scotland. He has been iu America, and spoke of gob g back. £ 5 reward will be paid for apprehension. Information to Mr. Supt. Harrison, Jarrow- on- Tyne.— Bow- street, Dec. 5. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Ledbury, on night of 1st inst. : a small tin box, containing a half- sovereign, a pedlar's cer- tificate, issued at Gloucester, in the name of John Peer ; a pawnticket for a coat pledged for 2s. 6d., at J. Pike's, Gloucester, in the name of John Peer. By a young man, 18 years of ? ge, about B feet 4 or 5 inches high, medium build, pale complexion, brown hair, left aim deformed at elbow from an accident, Indian ink marks on wrist; dressed in pilot coat, cord trousers, cheesecutter cap, a hole in the top and two brass buttons on sides, white muffler, strong laced boots. Has been in Neath Reformatory School and Gaol for felony ; would be likely to Btay iu common lodging- houses or tramp wards. Information to Mr. Supt. Smith, Police Station, Ledbury.— Bow- street, December 5. Stolen from the person, at Driffield Hirings, 24th ult. a double- cased silver lever Watch, No. 9455, ' Stockdale, Driffield,' on plate, also 39s. in Gold and Silver. Stolen from the person, at Driffield Hiring", 24th inst. :— a jean Purse, with two pockets containing £ 110 in East Biding Bank Notes, and £ 4 in Gold. Stolen by means of highway* robbery with violence at Kilham, East Biding, 24th ult. :— about £ 3 8s. in Gold and Silver. By a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, dark topcoat, black trousers, stiff felt hat, had the appearance of a groom. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Description of WALTER CLOVER, a native of Cam- bridge, 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, red face, light hair; dressed when last seen in a brown coat, light trousers, and hard felt hat. And WALTER PILSWORTH. of the same place, 17 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, red face, brown hair; dressed when last seen in a short slate coloured jacket and trousers, black hard felt hat, and high lace- up shoes. They are both wanted on a warrant charged with stealing a Watch, & c„ recovered. Information to Chief Constable Turrall, Cambridge, who holds the warrant for their apprenension,— Bow- street, Dec. 5. Wanted by warrant, charged with stealing a Whip and Lock, recovered, on 26t, h ultimo :— WILLIAM EDWARDS, alias rjGRIFFEHS EDWARDS, alias WM. GRIFFEHS EDWARDS, Gresford, collier, 31 years of age, 5 feet 8| ins. high, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers on chin, cut mark over left eye, slight scar bridge of nose, small seals on right side of neck. Has been convicted at Wrexham and Chester for larceny. Is well known at Birkenhead, Neston, Northwich, Nantwich, Chester, Wrexham, and other towns in Denbighshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Plant, Broxton, Cheshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.- Bow- street, December 5. JOHN FULLBROOK, advertised in Police Gazette on 21st ultimo, charged with stealing Fowls at Kidlington on 17th ultimo, has been apprehended.— Bow- street, December 5. Absconded, 16th September last, charged with stealing about £ 40 -.— ALFRED BISHOPP, a railway booking clerk, 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, tbin build, pale com- plexion, dark hair and moustache ( slight), lame right leg. and sometimes walks with a stick ; respectably dressed. Likely to be found at Faversham, Kent, where his parents reside. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W. Metropolitan Police, December 2. Absconded on 23rd ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:— EDWIN CRESCENCE COOKE, late of Barclay- terrace, Copeland^ park, Walthamstow, from 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, scar over left eye, ears protruding, slight build, walk:: with a jerky gait, carries his head forward, and a great snufiF taker ; dressed respectably. Supposed convicted at Astwn, near Birmingham, in 1877, where his friends reside. Information to Insp. McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 20, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, December 2. Stolen from a jeweller's shop, at Dartford, Kent, between 2 and C' 30 p. m.. 1st instant :— a gold open face verge Watch, gold dial and figures, No. 17894; a silver Geneva Hunter, 4 Dyer, Regent- street,' on dome, No. 31315 ; a silver crystal Lever, quite new, No. 16798, name plate nngilt. Supposed by two men, who entered the shop and asked the price of a watch, but madefjno purchase : 1st, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, dark whiskers, chin shaved; dressed in blue overcoat and high black silk hat. 2nd, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair com- plexion ; dreBsed in brown overcoat and hard felt hat. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Webster, Kent Constabulary, Dart- ford.— Bow- street, December 2. Stolen on 28t, h ultimo, from a stable at Linslade, Bucks : a blue cloth double breasted overcoat Ulster, has velvet collar, pocket inside left breast, pockets outside at side's and ticket pocket ; a mixed cloth Coat, has plain buttons, pockets at sides outside and ticket pocket: a pair of light mixed cloth Trousers; a hard felt hat, nearly new ; a pair of side spring Boots ; a new striped cotton Shirt; a new spotted Necktie^ had small gold Pia attached ; a yellow horse Rug, bound with blue braid; and anew clipping Machine, '^ Clarkes Patent.* By a man, a stableman, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, has rather £ ull round face, small dark whiskers, blood shoot eyes, and is wearing the stolen clothes, left Leighton station by 12' 18 train on the 28th, to London by way of Dunstable. Information to Mr. Supt. Denson, Aylesbury, or to Inspector Sutton, Linslade, Bucks. — Bow street, Die. 2. Description of OSWALD PENFOLD, wanted on a warrant at Birmingham, charged with embezzlement:— 42 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed when left in seedy blue black overcoat, and dark suit; absconded on 22nd instant, will probably be found selling gas regulators, & c., in Sheffield, York, Donoaster, Hull, or Swansea; accompanied by a young man of about 21, well dressed, and of good address. Information to Mr. Supt. Rib in son, Detective Office, Birmingham.— Bow- street, Dec. 2. Wanted by warrant for stealing upwards of £ 800, the monies of his employers :— a commercial traveller and clerk, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, right ear projects out ; dressed in dark clothes, and felt hat, of smart gentle- manly appearance; resided at Sale, Cheshire, up to the time of absconding on 9th instant ; his parents reside at Fir Tree Farm, Sproughton, near Ipswich. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by his late employers for such information as will lead to his apprehension, and 5 per cent, upon all monies recovered. Information to the Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, November 30. Stolen from a stable at Moreton Hall, near Market Drayton, Salop, during the night of 25th instant:— a dark cloth Overcoat, slightly tinged with grey, rather rough material, double- breasted, black bone buttons, one button on each sleeve near the cuff, pocket on each hip, and one inside left breast*, black and red lining, and black aim bine striped lining in sleeves, would fit a youth about 17 ; also a pair of light lace- up Boots, brass eyelet- holes, toe- capped, two holes cut in top of each tongue, nailed with sparables, and supposed to be size 8' s. Entrance effected by means of a skeleton key, which was left in the lock of the stable door by the thieves, who are no doubt the same parties suspected of committing the stable robberies at Wall and Ticklertou, near Church Stretton, on the night of 17th instant, ( see Police Gazette of 25th instant). Information to Mr. Supt. Howella, Whit- church, or to Sergeant Merricks, Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, November 30. Absconded from Reading on 19th instant, charged with stealing two rolls of Carpet and other property ( recovered) : — THOMAS BUSBY, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, has a little light moustache, and little whiskers at sides of face ; dressed in short grey overcoat, dark trousers, and bard felt hat; had with him a blue overcoat, with velvet collar, walks very badly on his feet. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading, Berks, who holds a warrant for hia apprehension.— Bow- street, November 30. Stolen between 26th and 28th instant, from a coffee stall at Stoke- on- Trent :— twelve Knives and fourteen Forks, small size, light bone handles ; eighteen email metal tea Spoons, some marked ' W. H.', with notch cut in the top, some marked ' W. P.'; twelve large size metal tea Spoans, marked ' Walker & Hall, Sheffield'; a pair of woman's Boots, plain, lace- up, nearly new, size 4, marked ' A.' on bottom; a Looking Glass, 12 in. by 9 in., Oxford oak frame. Supposed by a youth, about 16 or 17 years of age, tall and thin; dressed shabbily, striped trousers, patched OH knees ; he stayed in a lodging- house in Stoke- on- Trent, a few nights, said he came from Birmingham. Information to Mr. Supt. Bowen, Stoke- on- Trent.— Bow- street, November 30. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described.) Wanted for rape at Newmaiket, on 13th instant:— a stable lad, 19 years of age, about 6 feet high, fair complexion, grey eyes, light brown hair, stooping gait; dressed in brown, mixed suit, and black hard round hat; native of Northorne, near Middlesbrough; may seek employment in racing or hunting stables. Information to Mr. Supt. Benson, Police Courts, Newmarket, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bmn- street, November 30. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of WILLIAM TITE, a Davvy, charged on a warrant with violent assault on 25th ultimo, at Grafton, Wilts ; about 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark brown hair, turning grey, grey whiskers, fresh com- plexion, stout build, and a little round shouldered; dressed in fustian jacket, moleskin trousers, soft black bowler hat, and navvy boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Pierce, Mari- borotigh.— Bow- street, December 2. Absconded, charged with obtaining a quantity of Oil Cans, from Joseph Kay, Bank Works, Leeds, by false pretences:— JAM E 3 HARDINGE, alias ANDERSON, GURNEY & Co,, late of No. 2- 2, Parliament- street, aud 2 POLICE GAZETTE. December 5 No. 9, Canterbury- road, Brixton, 35 years of age, C feet i inch high, sallow complexion, hair and whiskers brown, latter rather long except on chin, slouching gait; dressed in dark clothes, respectable appearance; native of Shepton Montague, Somerset, and was in July, 1873, apprehended at Cricklington, Somerset, on a charge of fraud, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude at Exeter Assizes. May visit friends at these places, or at Herne Bay and Sittiugbourne, where he has relatives. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W. Metrepolitan Police, November 30. Charged with obtaining Money by false pretences, on 25th inst., at Clunbury, Salop :— a man, from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark whiskers and mous- tache, walks a little lame, has a turn in one eye, and stout build ; dressed in dark mixtmre jacket and vest, dark cord trousers much worn, and soft jimcrow hat rather high in the crown ; speaks with an Irish accent. Has in his possession a book, containing the names of Lord Powis, Rev. W. M. Rowlands, Richard Kilvert, and other gentlemen. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Caswell, Church Stretton, or to Sergeant Williams, Bishops Castle, Shropshire.— Bow- street, Nov. 30. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Committed to H. M. Prison. Portsmouth, for one calendar month, hard labour, under the Vagrant Act, by the Gosport Magistrates, on 2nd instant:— a man who gives the name of WILLIAM DOWNS, 31 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair ( short), small light whiskers, grey eyes, slightly pockpitted, scar on nose and back of right hand ; dressed in dark coat, brown cord vest, light brown tweed trousers, black round hard felt hat, all old and much worn, old military boots and socks ; stammers at times. States he came from LonJoL, but refuses to give any address, or by whom he has been employed. He appears to be well acquainted with prison discipline. Information to Mr. Supt. Cheyney, Hants Constabulary Station, Gosport.— Bow- sireet, December 5. Remanded at County Police Station, Aldershot, until 8th instant, on charges of burglary, also of feloniously receiving stolen property :— ARTHUR PALSEY or PAWSEY, name supposed fictitious, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5} inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, scar left temple, mole top of right shoulder, ship in full sail on breast, two small snips, basket, or unfinished crown right forearm, star and bracelet right wrist, sailor with raised sword inside right arm, anchor back of right hand, large flower on left muscle, lamp post with 3 lamps ' A. H.' and anchor left arm, bracelet left wrist, small anchor between left thumb and finger ; dressed in black hard hat, dark mixture reefing jacket, blue guernsey with red stripes, black moleskin trousers with raised seams down sides. Gave a false address at Stepney. States he is a plumber, and has been to sea. JOHN DARBY, alias DARLEY, of 81, Eastfield- street, Stepney, costermonger, 21 yenrs of age, 5 feet 6f inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, small scar back of neck, and outside right elbow, birth mark left hip ; dressed in old blue serge jacket, old black and red striped guernsey, black moleskin trousers with raised seams down sides, and black bowler hat. HENRY GEORGE, labourer, 2- 2 years of age, 5 feet 6} inches high, dark complexion and hair, grey eyes, full features, rather stout build, mole right of neck, amall scar back of neck, ctit mark left of head, tin- ill scar outside left leg below knee ; dressed in cloth cap with cloth peak, dark mixture cutaway coat, pocket outside left breast, no pockets on hips, black vest with velvet collar, dark cord trousers with raised seams down side, and old militia boots. Gave false address at Stepney. Supposed to belong in the neigh bourhood of St. Dunstan's- road, Limehouse. FREDERICK SMITH, alias CLEMENTS, 19 years of age, 5 feet 3i inches high, fair complexion, dark browi hair, cut mark across right eyebrow, burn mark right elbow, scar on loins ; dressed in hard black hat, old black diagonal cloth coat, pocket left breast, and ticket pocket right side, black and light striped twv; ed trousers, fly fronts. Supposed to beloLg iu the neighbourhood of Stepney or Limehouse, and is a ropeiviaker. THOMAS COOPER, supposed fictitious, a costermonger, 21 years of age, 5 feet Gi inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, full features, thick lips. Private in 32nd Regiment ( Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry), and late of Whitechapel. And ALFRED DEELEY, private in same Regiment, of 94, Brearley- street, Summer- lane, Birmingham, jeweller's stamper, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4J inches high, dark com plexion, dark brown hair, two small cuts right eyebrow. Information to the Deputy- Chief Constable, Hants Con Btabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- st., December 5. Description of MARGARET ROONEY, alias MOR GAN, alias LEE, committed to H. M. Prison at Northallerton for 3 months hard labour, charged with frequenting a public street with intent to commit felony at Middlesbrough : — about 34 years of age, 5 feet 3 iuches high, fresh complexion dark brown hair, grey eyes, several moles on face ; is a native of Newry, Ireland. Information to Chief Constable Saggerson Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, December 5. Committed for trial at the next Quarter Sessions to be holden at St.| Alban's, for misdemeauour :— JAMES STEWART, 36 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair com- plexien, bald on top of head, broken nose, several scars on head ; dressed in dark blue suit ; called himself a fitter, and gave his address 36, Old Pye Street, Westminster. And THOS. BROWN, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 ins. high, dark complexion, dark stubby whiskers, as if shaved off some time ago ; dressed in dark plaid coat, light corduroy trousers, fitting tight, called himself a groom, and said he came from St. James's, Warwick, but has the appearance of a gipsy tinker. Information to Mr. Supt. Chapman, Hemel Hempstead, Herts.— Bow- street, December 5. ' Remanded at Leominster until 8th instant, charged with attempting to pick pockets, in the market, 1st instant,:— ELLEN MATTHEWS, she says her husbands name is John Matthews, and that he has a pedlars certificate taken out at Birmingham, where she states they reside at 5, John- street, she left him at Bristol on Wednesday, and he was to have met her at Leominster Station Friday, to go on home together : — • hejis 50 years of age, medium size, small features, rather sallow complexion, slightly pock marked, has an Irish accent; dressed in a plaid woollen dress, various colours, dark grey woollen shawl, with light grey border, navy blue ulster, small black woollen shawl which she wore over her head when in the market, red crotched worsted muffler, black cherry lipe bonnet, trimmed with black velvet, dark flowers and feather; carried an umbrella, and R small brown open worked riticule basket, she had a stout appearance from wearing so many clothes. Information to Head Constable Johnson, Leomister. — Bow- street, December 5. Description of ELIZA LEESE, remanded at Stafford until 8th instant, charged with stealing a Watch, recoveredj — 33 years of age, 5 feet Of inch high, fresh complexion, dark hair, dark grey eyes, proportionate build, cut oi bridge of nose, severe cut on right wrist; native of Blythe Marsh, Staffordshire ; dressed in brown winsey dress, brown ulster, dark green soft felt hat. trimmed with small greeD feather, black velvet, and black ribbon. For several years has been hawking with her husband, Thomas Leese, tin clothes boxes, and attending markets selling earthenware in the Midland Counties. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, The Green, Stafford, or to Inspector Chaplain, Guildhall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, December 5. Committed to H. M. Prison at Spalding for 14 days, for vagrancy, on 23rd ultimo:— THOMAS LAY, 61 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, grey syes, fresh com- plexion, oval face, and proportionate build ; and WILLIAM LAY, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, oval face, proportionate build; both state they are natives of Greens Norton. They have been tramping the country, and have a small snuff- coloured broken haired dog with them, the license for which was taken out at Hucknall Torkard, ^ Nottinghamshire ; have the appearance of poachers. Information to Mr. Supt. Crawford, Boston, Lin- solnshire.— Bow- street, December 2.
