Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or teniing the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advert isemeat, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tiie persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without ihe apprehension of tke offender. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 21st instant the dead Body of a fully developed male Child naked, leather garter tied lightly round its neck, was found in a branch of the Trent and Mersey Canal near New- castle- under- Lyme. Stolen from the person at Louth, on 23rd instant :— a double bottom open faced gold lever Watch, crystal glass, maker's name D. Roberts. Horncastle, No. 100426. Stolen from the person in Longton, on 26th instant :— a strong silver patent lever Watch, gold figures, silver dial, maker J. H. Jackson, Tunstall, No. 15596. Information to Mr. Supt. McWilliams, Longton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 28. Wanted on a charge of highway- robbery at Kenilworth, on 14th instant :— a tramp, without shoes and stockings, and has a long brown beard, and may have a boy with him. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Frankton, Police Station, Warwick.— Bow- street, November 21. Wanted for highway robbery at Seacombe, at 12 a. m. on 19th instant, two men :— lst, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, and wore a short jacket and moleskin trousers ; 2nd, a slender built man, abeut 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and dressed in short dark jacket and moleskin trousers. Stolen from the person at Stafford, on 19lh instant, during the parliamentary election :— a gold lever Watch, No. 5,067, white dial, ' F. H.' in monogram an back of case; also a gold lever Watch, gold dial, gold hands, steel second hand, outer case much worn. Stolen by means of burglary, from the Parsonage House, Minstead, during the night of 23rd instant:— a lady's brown fur Jacket and ( Jape, trimmed with fur of a darker colour, and lined with black satin ; also a quantity of Copper Money. Information to Mr. Supt. White, Hants Constabulary, Lyndhurst.— Bow- street, November 28. The No. of the gold Watch stolen by means of burglary at Roughcote, near Longton, advertised in Police Gazette of 9th instant, was 15596. Information to Mr. Supt. McWilliams, Longton, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., Nov. 28. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Yeldon, between 1st and 3rd instant:— 4 cotton Sheets; a patchwork bed Quilt; a black silk Dress, with black cape, and lace collar ; a plaid Shawl; a black satin Shawl, old fashioned ; a pair of new white Stays; a striped St- irt, and other articles. By JOHN DRAPER, late of Bolnhurst, shoemaker, a supervisee, 33 years of age, 5 feet 4J inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, left thumb contracted, was accompanied by a woman, about 44 years of age, and stout person, who disposed of at Wallingbore on 5th instant, 2 sheets and the striped skirt, ( recovered). Information to Mr. Supt. Carruthers, Police Station, Sharnbrook, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 28. Stolen by meais of burglary, on 25th instant:— a silver verge Watch, old- fashioned, with piece broken out of dial, number not known; a silver verge Watch, capptd and jewelled, French manufacture ; 2 Melodions, one old, one new ; an English Concertina, 48 kays, 3 keys broken off ; a brown sack Coat, a dirty white engineer's slop, 2 pairs cotton Sheets, a quantity of Horsehsir, about 3 dozen rabbit and hare Skins ; several French, Russian, and German ccpper coins. Supposed by two men : one, 30 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair ; dressed in brown jacket, old brown soft cap with peak. The other, 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow complexion ; dressed in brown jacket, cord trousers, piece out of bottom of one leg ; cast in one eye. supposed left. Both travel the country gathering rags and bones, and have been convicted of felony. Information to Mr, Supt. Jeffrey, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. Bow- street, November 28. Stolen by means of burglary, at Stone, during the night of the 21st instant:— A lady's J- plate gold lever Watch, No. 23595, no maker's name ; a lock gold neck Chain, with guinea and half- guinea, supposed dated 1779, attached; a silver Geneva Watch, No. 7804, no maker's name ; a gold Albert Chain, pendant with stone, white on one side and dark brown on the other, attached ; a single breasted dark brown Ovcrcoat, small mixture of white, pockets on hips with flaps, ticket pocket on right side, but no lining in it, bound with black worsted braid, black Italian cloth lining, hard worn at hip pockets, black covered buttons to match, one or two supposed off; a single- breasted black worsted cloth Jacket, pockets on hips with flaps, ticket pocket, atjd one inside left breast, unstitched on top of right shoulder, bound with black mohair braid, nearly new, the name ' Staneway, Newcastle,' on collar loop ; a double- breasted Vest, same material ; a black billycock Hat, good quality, nearly new ; a pair of elastic- side Boots, nearly new, kid tops, calf vamps, plain toes ; about £ f> Gold and £ 1 Silver. The thief is supposed to be dressed in the stolen clothing, as his own were left on the premises, and consists of an old light drab coloured cloth over- coat, pockets on hips, ticket and inside left breast pocket, drab Italian cloth lining down each side in front, sack make, to fit a rran 5 feet 6 inches high ; a hard black billycock hat, good quality, nearly new, about 7 size, marked inside ' London, Best Quality, Prize Medal, Vienna, 1873, and Paris, 1878'; a pair of mec's strong lace- up boots, much worn, about 7 size, toe tips aod new leather laces. Supposed by a man, a collier, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, very fr<* sh complexion, dark brown hair cut Bhort, dark moustache, no whiskers, dark eyes stout build, round features, and supposed blue coal mark across bridge of nose, and smart appearance. He appeared to be well acquainted with the principal betting men and bookmakers at Sheffield, Man- chester, Macclesfield, Nottingham, Stockport, Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Derby, and Birmingham, and stated that he lived for some time in London. The clothing left on the premises has since been identified as having been purchased by him at Hanley on 21st instant. Information to Mr. Supt. Crisp, Stone, Staffordshire.— Bmo- street, November 25. Stolen from a shop at Southampton, between 9 p. m. on 22nd and 8 a. m. on 23rd instant 11 ladies'gold Geneva Watches, two 18- carat ( one double- case keyless lever), one keyless hunter. 3 gentlemen's gold ditto, two 18- carat English levers ( one by ' Nelson, London'), third Geneva ( by ' Lambert') 11 gentlemen's gold Geneva ditto, three 18- carat hunters, three keyless. 3 ladies' silver Geneva ditto, one hunting, two single cases. 3 gentlemen's silver English lever ditto, one capped. 4 gentlemen's silver Geneva ditto, three hunting, the other single case. 18 silver Geneva ditto, crystal glasses. 12 metal ditto, double case, compass inside back. 8 aluminium ditto. 1 silver American ditto, by ' Waltham.' 18 gold Albert Chains, one French ( with swivel Seal), the others 9- carat ( curb, cable, and fancy patterns). 6 ladies' long 9- csrat gold ditto, secret ling and other patterns. 6 silver Albert ditto, various patterns. Half of a £ 5 Note. A centre bit aod stock ( marked ' Coy | c/ a' in ink) was left on the premises. .£ 20 reward will be paid to any pel son or persons who Bhall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and the recovery of the property. Stolen by means of burglary from Leweston House, Sherborne, on 16th instant:— a pair of silver Candlesticks, with crest on foot— griffin's head with shell; two plated Candlesticks, taken off horse's hoofs; a pair of gold- wire Spectacles ; a pair of gold Spectacles, turquoise, on hinge ; a silver Inkstand, top with word ' Cossack' on it, taken off a horse's hoof; a Spanish silver gilt Tazza, with Spanish Arms; a small agate gold Box ; two small silver Boxes ; a Chateline, rococo work ; a silver Pencil- case ; a gilt ditto; a silver patch Box : three gold Seals on gold ring, one with arms ; a gold Seal, with black wedgewood head ; a Miniature of lady, in paste frame ; two Ditto, in gc Lockets, one with letter and hair at back ; a gold Locket, without a miniature, purple enamel back ; a Miniature of Voltaire in paper frame; two Scaraboei ( beetle) Ear- rings ; an old gold Brooch, with small rubies ; a silver toddy Spoon, with bird stamped on the bowl, cracked ; a silver gilt Badge of the Baronets of Nova Scotia; a gilt Medal; a lady's Mackintosh, reversible; a bowler Hat, marked inside ' Sir R. Stolen by means of housebreaking on 13th instant, at Stebbing, Essex :— a brown cloth Overcoat, double breasted ; a double- barrelled percussion Gun, maker Harcourt; a powder Flask ; a shot Bag ; six plated tea Spoons ; two ditto mus- tard Ditto ; two ditto salt Ditto ; a ditto sugar Ditto ; a plated butter Knife ; two pairs of women's Boots ; a plated liquor Tap, in case; a small gold oval Brooch, containing hair, wi « li c'aw broken; a gold wedding Ring, tax' n ; a leather Purse, containing £ 1 ; a bottle of Whisky ; a' bottle of home made Wine ; a box of Gun- caps ; and a black silk quilted Petticoat. ( The gun, powder flash, shot bag, and shoes are recovered). By ALFRED HARVEY, alias COCKEY HARVEY, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, small dark moustache, clean shaved; dressed in a tight- fitting pair of fustian trousers, very dilty and greasy, dark rough jacket, black and red woollen scarf, hard black felt hat, was wearing the stolen overcoat. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Old Stratford, between 10 a. m. aud 8 p. m. on 20th inst.:— a pair of silver table Spoons, marked ' J. S.'; a pair of silver sugar Tongs ; three silver salt Cellars ; four gold Rings, one marked on the out- side ' In Memory,' and inside with date of death, ' Aug., 1876/ one plain, with hair, one marked ' Thomas Newman,' one set with white stones, and made out of a lady's keeper and a small gold Brooch ; a pair of silver table Spoons, plain; a pair of silver Ladles; a pair of silver Snuffers ; a pair of silver salt Spoons, gold inside ; a pair of silver salt Spoons, larger size ; £ dozen tea Spoons, marked ' L. K.'; a dark mauve lady's silk Scarf; a lady's black pillow- lace Scarf. Information to Mr. Supt. Norman, Towcester, Northampton- shire.— Bow- street, November 23. Stolen by means of housebreaking in Shrewsbury, on 19th instant:— a plain black cloth Jacket, with breast packet inside, pocket on each hip, with flaps, and a Vest of same material ; a pair of light grey Trousers, fall fronts; rouud hard felt Hat; a pair of man's strong lace- up Boots, nailed all round, toe- caps, half watertights, and hooks to fasten the upper parts, nearly new ; a large size red Hand- kerchief, with white border and spots inside ; a black alpacca Umbrella, handle small turn at the top, about half worn ; a puzzle Money- box, made of six pieces of deal, and containing about 2s. ; ibout 3 lb. of Beef ; 2 lb. of Mutton ; and half of a 6d. Loaf. Two men were seen in the neighbourhood at 1115pm. the same night one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high ; dressed in round drab cloth coat and trousers, soft felt billycock hat, had sharp features, shaved on chin, and had the appearance of a stone mason. The other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark whiskers, all round face ; dressed in a, dark suit of clothes, and hard felt ha<~. The thieves may have gas tar upon their clothes or hands, as the fence on which they got over had recently been tai'd. Information to Chief Constable Harrop, Shrewsbury. — Bmn- street, November 23. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 15th instant, at Hungerford Marsh, Wilts :— an old- fashioned silver Watch, minute hand missing ; a double- breasted black reefer Jacket, pockets at sides, aud one inside breast; a drab check Vest; both Jacket and Vest are full man's size, and nearly new ; a pair of man's light lace- up Boots, brass eyelet holes. Supposed by 3 tramps, two dressed in dark clothes, and one in cord or fustian, recently washed. All wearing caps. An old coat and a pair of boots were left in the house. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Pierce, Wilts Constabulary, Marlborough. — Bow- street, November 21. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING JOSEPH FINNIGAN, alias JOE THE DROVER, alias DARBY JOE, advertised in the Police Gazette of 18th instant, is known in Montgomeryshire by the names of JOSEPH DAWSON, alias JOSEPH THOMAS, aud has been convicted for larceny in the name of Joseph Dawson ; 2 POLICE GAZETTE. November 28 the woman he cohabits with is supposed to belong to the Staffordshire Potteries. Information to the Chief Constable, Penybont, Radnorshire.— Bow- street, November 28. Description of a Pony and Cart left at a Livery Stable on 24th instant, supposed stolen a light grey Gelding, 5 years olds 13 hands 2 inches high, tail cut short, and a Dog Cart, painted black, picked out claret, fine yellow lines, with lamps, cips marked ' Dudbridge Carriage Works, Bedminster, Bristol,' Harness with buckles and turrets, diamond shaped. By two men, one of whom said he was a Bristol cab driver. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Fisher, Metropolitan Police Station, Hammersmith— Bcw- street, Novmiber 28. In custody at Gloucester, charged with stealing a black Cob Mare ; and suspected of stealing a small military ( altered to a plain) Saddle, marked ' C | 28,' brass stud of each side of pump, three leather rosettes on crupper, and plum- coloured girths; also a single- win Bridle, marked ' 21 | B | 21,' with snaf- fle bit ( found in his possession) ; and is supposed to be wanted for offences elsewhere ;— lie gave the name of HENRY SMITH, of Pool- street, Birmingham, 28 years of age, 5 feet 5i inches high, dark brown li* ir, brown eyes, fresh com- plexion, stout build, no whiskers, dark brown moustache, blue scar over right eye, tattooed right wrist heart and spray of tree, left wrist bracelet, dot on back of hand, and ring on second finger ; dressed in brown tweed jacket and trousers, black ribbed vest, brown spring overcoat, black soft hat or sealskin cap, and light lace- up boots. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Chipp, Gloucester. - Bow- slreet, November 28. " - Stolen from a field at Haslingden, between 18th and 21* t instant .— 9 ewe Sheep, all of Hard wick breed, j marked on top of shoulder with a black dot, has also a kind of letter on body, marked with tar. Information to Mr. Supt. Henderson, County Police Office, Bacup, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Nov. 28. Stolen from a stable at Petersfield, on the night of 24th instant :— a bay Mare and Colt ( colt recovered), mare 11 yrs. old, white face, white hind feet, about 14 or 15 hands high, in good condition, switch tail. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair, dark eyes ; dressed in light clothes; there was a man in his company, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, stout build, high cheek bones, little whiskers, supposed a dealer. Information to Mr. Supt. Ransom, County Constabulary, Petersfield, Hants.— Bow- street, November 28. Stolen jfrom a field at Sheldon, between 3 p. m. 21st and 9a. m. 22nd inst.:— six black faced Lambs, marked with letter, ' A' on near side, one hand- reared Lamb with long tail, and one shear hog marked with letter ' A' in pitch on rump, black face and leg 3. £ 5 5s. reward will be paid by the Solihull Association for the prosecution of felons, on conviction of the offenders. Stolen on 20th instant;— an old female Donkey and a male Donkey, 2 yes> rs old, both of a grey colour. Information to Mr. Superintendent Yardley, Acocks Green, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, November 25. Stolen on 16 th instant:— 2 Horses, one a grey gelding, about 9 years old, has been blistered on near side pin bone, walks rather lame behind, hair over pin bone very spare, about 8 inches in diameter ; the other a grey Mare, about 15 hands 2 inches high, about 7 years old, walks yery lame, fired in front, 3 or 4 holes burnt in over each front hoof. Infor- mation to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W — Metropolitan Police, November 25. Supposed stolen, from a field, since 20th inst, near the Philanthropic Farm School, Redhill:— a black Mare, about 14 hands high, very long ears, a high steper, and a long tail; in good condition. Also a bay cob Gelding, with white hind feet, a very big head, and very thick set, about 15 hands high ; in good con- dition. Information to the Head Constable, Redhill, Surrey — B< w- st., Nov. 25. Stolen on 2nd instant, from the Crown Inn, Rugby :— a Pony and Trap. By J. G. Matherson, a Scotchman, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, auburn whiskers and moustache, clean shaved chin; dressed in a Scotch mixture suit, and long grey ulster over- coat. He stated that he was a tea- dealer, and was supplied by the British Tea Association, 118, Southwark- street, London, and was calling on country shopkeepers, to open up a new trade. It has since been ascertained that he has called ( as above) on the principal shopkeepers in villages, in Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. He is in the habit of putting up at respectable inns nightly. The Pony is a bay mare, 6 years old, 12i hands high, black point", long tail, and is in foal; a set of brass- mounted Harness ; a spring Trap, painted dark green, light green lines, and plain sides. IN- formation to Mr. Supt,. Patmer, Rugby, who holds warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 25. Supposed stolen from a meadow, in Guildford, during the night of the 10th instant a bay Horse, about 15 hands 2 inches high, 5 years old, two white heels, one or two saddle marks on back, short tail. Also a bay Mare, about 15 hands high, 6 years old, white heel near hind, short tail. Both quiet and in good condition. Informa'ion to Mr. Supt. Law, Borough Police Station, Guildford, Surrey.— Bow- st., Nov. 25. Found in Bowlas- lane, Redditch, at 6 30 p. m., 18th:— A chesnut Colt, about 3 years old, 14 hands high, white star on foreh » ad, white stroke on neck, not shod, had on a hemp halter. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bovt- street, November 25. Found at Steeple Aston, Oxon, ou 7th instant:— a brown nag Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, long coat, short tail, shod all round, and in good working condition, supposed stolen. Information to Inspector Wyatt, Deddington, Oxon. — Bow- street, November 23. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded from Godstone ou 16th instant, charged with larceny as a bailee of about 20 Watches entrusted to him to clean and repair :— a maw, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, pale complexion, slight build, dark eyes, hair, and moustache, no whiskers, walks very erect. He is a watchmaker, also a shoemaker, and may endeavour to leave for Australia. Information to Mr. Supt. Radford, Surrey Constabulary, Gidstone.— Bow- street, November 28. Wanted for stealing on 24th instant:—- a Foresters Sash ; a dark cut- away ribbed Coat; a black aud white ( Necktie ; a seal skin smoking Cap ; and a pair of tweed Tronser-, pepper aud salt colour, value 36s., from his lodgings at No. 21, Amity- road, Easley. A man, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, long features ; dressed in dark coat, light vest, brown clcth trousers, low shoes, brown and white socks, has a small pimple on left cheek, no whiskers or moustache, has the appearance of an engine driver ; he Dledged the coat on 25th instant at Windsor, he borrowed a coat where he lodged, and left the foresters sash there,' said he was a colt breaker, and he was going to Peckham. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Borlase, Wokingham, Berkshire.— Bow- street, November 28. Absconded on 14th instant, charged with embezzlement : — JOHN NORTHALL, 35 or 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, pale or sallow complexion, rather heavy dark maustache and side whiskers, generally shaves the chin, but of late has allowed the beard to grow, slight build, leans forward a little whe> i walking, has a slight impediment in his speech ; dressed respectably. Has been employed as a coal agent, and recently as a clerk. Has a wife and five children, and is supposed to be in Warrington, Cheshire, with his wife's relatives.( She left Newtown on 15t. h instant, and is supposed to have joined her husband. Information to the Chief Constable, Newtown, Montgomery- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 28. There is no doubt but that these are the same persons suspected of committing the stable robbery at Montford, Salop, see Police Gazette of 2ist instant, were traced to Wellington, Salop, which they left on 19th instant. She used to travel the country with a shooting gallery, and was sentenced to 3 months, hard labour, on 25th February, 1881, at Bromsgrove, for larceny. He is of the following description: — gave the name of JAMES GOWERY, a tramping labourer, 31 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, hazel eyes, very dark short whiskers all round with moustache, proportionate make, and speaks the Scotch dialect; dressed in black coat and vest, old grey checked trousers, grey cap with peak, all shabby and dirty, and laced boots. States he was born at Witton, near Nore- battle in Roxburghshire, brought up with his grandmother, has a sister, named Janet, married to John Tait, ploughman, Greatridge Hall, near Kelso ; another sister, named Isabella Robinson, a widow, living at Kirk * yn Street, Selkirk ; has been tramping in South of Scotland aud North of England ( including Durham City and County, Whitby and Middles- brough), for the last 12 months; left Newcastle Workhouse Infirmary on 18th instant, where he stayed for 3 weeks, suf- fering from an affection of the chest, and from which he still complains.
