Notlee.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of DeserterB from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied hv a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through * he Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 21st instant the dead Body of a fully developed male Child, naked, leather garter tied tightly round its neck, was found in a branch of the Trent and Mersey Canal near New- castle- under- Lyme. An inquest has been opened and adjoured to ibe 15th proximo. Information to Mr. Supt. Bowen, Stoke- upon- Trent.— Bow- street, November 25. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Wanted on a charge of highway- robbery at Kenilworth, on 14th instant :— a tramp, without shoes and stockings, and has a long brown beard, aud may have a boy with him. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Frankton, Police Station, Warwick.— Bow- street, November 21. Wanted for highway robbery at Seacombe, at 12 a. m. on 19th instant, two men :— 1st, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, and wore a short jacket and moleskin trousers ; 2nd, a slender built man, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and dressed in short dark jacket and moleskin trousers. Infor- mation to Chief Supt. Egerton, Constabulary Office, Birken- head.— Bow- street, November 21. Stolen from the person at Stafford, on 19tli instant, during the parliamentary election : — a gold lever Watch, No. 5,067, white dial, ' F. H.' in monogram on back of case ; also a gold lever Wateh, gold dial, gold hands, steel second hand, outer case much worn. Information to Deputy Chief Con- stable Oswell, The Green, or to Inspector Chaplain. Guildhall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 21. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary, at Stone, during the night of the 21st instant:— A lady's t- plate gold lever Watch, No. 23595, no maker's name ; a lock gold neck Chain, with guinea and half- guinea, supposed dated 1779, attached; a silver Geneva Watch, No. 7804, no maker's name ; a gold Albeit Chain, pendant with stone, white on one side and dark brown on the other, attached; a single- breasted dark brown Overcoat, small mixture of white, pockets on hips with flaps, ticket pocket on right side, but no lining in it, bound with black worsted braid, black Italian cloth lining, hard worn at hip pockets, black covered buttons to match, one or two supposed off; a single breasted black worsted cloth Jacket, pockets on hips with flaps, ticket pocket, atd one inside left breast, unstitched on top of right shoulder, bound with black mohair braid, nearly new, the name ' Staneway, Newcastle,' on collar loop ; a double- breasted Vest, same material; a black billycock Hat, good quality, nearly new ; a pair of elastic- side Boots, nearly new, kid tops, calf vamps, plain toes ; about £ 5 Gold and £ 4 Silver. The thief is supposed to be dressed in the stolen clothing, as his own were left on the premises, and consists of an old light drab coloured cloth over- coat, pockets on hips, ticket and inside left breast pocket, drab Italian cloth lining down each side in front, sack make, to fit a nan 5 feet 6 inches high ; a hard black billycock bat, good quality, nearly new, about 7 size, marked inside ' London, Best Quality, Prize Medal, Vienna, 1873, and Paris, 1878'; a pair of men's strong lace- up boots, much worn, about 7 size, toe tips and new leather laccs. Stolen by means of burglary from Leweston House' Sherborne, on 16th instant:— a pair of silver Candlesticks, with crest on foot— griffin's head with shell ; two plated Candlesticks, taken off horse's hoofs; a pair of gold- wire Spectacles ; a pair of gold Spectacles, turquoise, on hinge ; a silver Inkstand, top with word ' Cossack' on it, taken off a horse's hoof ; a Spanish silver gilt Tazza, with Spanish Arms; a small agate gold Box ; two small silver Boxes ; a Chateline, rococo work ; a silver Pencil gilt ditto; a silver patch Box : three gold Seals on gold ring, one with arms ; a gold Seal, with black wedgewood head ; a Miniature of lady, in paste frame ; two Ditto, in gold Lockets, one with letter and hair at back ; a gold Locket, without a miniature, purple enamel back ; a Miniature of Voltaire in paper frame; two Scarabfei ( beetle) Ear- rings ; an old gold Brooch, with small rubies ; a silver toddy Spoon, with bird stamped on the bowl, cracked ; a silver gilt Badge of the Baronets of Nova Scotia; a gilt Medal; a lady's Mackintosh, reversible ; a bowler Hat, marked inside ' Sir R. G. Glyn'; a silk Umbrella, with buckhorn handle, cracked. £ 20 reward will be paid by Sir R. Glyn, to any person who shall give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from a shop at Southampton, between 9 p. m. on 22nd and 8 a. m. on 23rd instant :— 11 ladies' gold Geneva Watches, two 18- carat ( one double- case keyless lever), one keyless hunter. 3 gentlemen's gold ditto, two 18- carat Euglish levers ( one by ' Nelson, London'), third Geneva ( by ' Lambert'). 11 gentlemen's gold Geneva ditto, three 18- carat hunters, three keyless. 3 ladies' silver Geneva ditto, one hunting, two single cases. 3 gentlemen's silver English lever ditto, one capped. 4 gentlemen's silver Geneva ditto, three hunting, the other single case. 18 silver Geneva ditto, crystal glasses. 12 metal ditto, double case, compass inside back. 8 aluminium ditto. 1 silver American ditto, by ' Waltliam.' 18 gold Albert Chains, or e French ( with swivel Seal), the others 9- carat ( curb, cable, aud fancy patterns). 6 ladies' long 9- ctrat gold ditto, secret ling aud other patterns. 6 silver Albert ditto, various patterns. ( The guu, powder flash, shot bag, and shoes are recovered). By ALFRED HARVEY, alias COCKEY HARVEY, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, small dark moustache, clean shaved ; dressed in a tight- fitting pair of fustian trousers, very duty and greasy, dark rough jacket, black and red woollen scarf, hard black f « lt hat, was wearing the stolen overcoat. Iufor- mation to Inspector Ackers, Essex Constabulary, Great Dunmow.— Bow- street, November 23. same material ; a pair of light grey Trousers, fall fronts ; lard felt Hat; a pair of man's strong lace- up Boots, nauea ail round, toe- caps, h watertights, and hooks to fasten the upper parts, nearly new ; a large size red Hand- kerchief, with white border and spots inside ; a black alpacca Umbrella, handle small turn at the top, about half worn ; a puzzle Money- box, made of six pieces of deal, and containing about 2s. ; ibout 3 lb. of Beef ; 2 lb. of Mutton ; and half of a 6d. Loaf. Two men were seen in the neighbourhood at 11 15 p m. the same night :— one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high ; dressed in round drab cloth coat and trousers, soft felt billycock hat, had sharp features, shaved on chin, and had the appearance of a stone mason. The other about 30 yeart- of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark whiskers, all round face; dressed in a dark suit of clothes, and bard felt ha'. The thieves may have gas tar upon their clothes or hands, as the fence on which thev got over had recently been tar'd. Information to Chief Constable Harrop, Shrewsbury. — Bow- street, November 23. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 15th instant, at Hungerford Marsh, Wilts :— an old- fashioned silver Watch, minute hand missing ; a double- breasted black reefer Jacket, pockets at sides, and one inside breast; a drab check Vest; both Jacket and Vest are full man's size, and nearly new ; a pair of man's light lace- up Boots, brass eyelet holes. Supposed by 3 tramps, two dressed in dark clothes, and one in cord or fustian, recently washed. All wearing caps. An old coat and a pair of boots were left in the house. Iufor- mation to Mr. Supt. Pierce, Wilts Constabulary, Marlborough. — Bow- street, November 21. Stolen by means of burglary :— a diamond and ruby gold Pin ; a do. do. do. set of Studs ard'Links ; a coral and pearl do. do. ; a Masonic gold Pin— square and compasses ; a do. do. set of Studs— compasses ; a silver Snuff- Box— crest a hand ; a pair of gold eye Glasses. About 9.30 p. m. a ladder was placed to the dressing- room window, which was forced, and a mahogany wedge was inserted under the door and screwed into the floor with a gimlet. Information to Mr. Supt. Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bow- street, November 21. Stolen at Halesowen, on the morning of 18th instant, by taking down the shutters and breaking a pane of glass in the window of a watchmaker's shop :— a medium- sized silver Geneva Watch, engraved on back ; a pair- cased pinchbeck silver Verge, small size ; a pair- cased pinchbeck silver Verge, larger size ; a single- case silver Hunter, small glass. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Hardman, Police Station, Oldbury, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, November 21. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Broomfield, Kent, between 5 and 7 p. m. on 19th instant:— two double barrel Guns, one a breech loader, maker ' John Venable, Oxford,' the other a muzzle loader, maker ' Webbs, Isle of Wight' ; a lever Watch, ' Frederick Hollands,' engraved on it; a Clock, with marble stand, square plate under face with inscription ' F. C. first Kent Rifle Volunteers, presented by Mr. Ashby, won by Lance Corporal Hollands'; a dark Overcoat, velvet collar ; a black cloth Coat ; a grey tweed Suit ; 2 pairs of rifle Trousers ; a lance corporals Tunic ; and a leather Flask, with drinking cup on end. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Old Stratford, between 10 a. m. aud 8 p. m. on 20th inst.:— a pair of silver table Spoons, marked ' J. S.'; a pair of silver sugar Tongs ; three silver salt Cellars ; four gold Rings, one marked on the out- side 1 In Memory,' and inside with date of death, ' Aug., 1876,' one plain, with hair, one marked ' Thomas Newman,' one set with white stones, and made out of a lady's keeper and a small gold Broach ; a pair of silver table Spoons, plain ; a pair of silver Ladles; a pair of silver Snuffers ; a pair of silver salt Spoons, gold inside ; a pair of silver salt Spools, larger size ; \ dozen tea Spoons, marked ' L. Stolen by means of housebreaking in Shrewsbury, on 19th instant:— a plain black cloth Jacket, with breast pocket inside, pocket on each hip, with flaps, and a Vest of HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field at Sheldon, between 3 p. m. 21st and 9a. m. 22nd inst.'— six black faced Lambs, marked with letter, A' on near side, one hand- reared Lamb with long tail, and one shear hog marked with letter ' A ' in pitch on rump, black face and legs. £ 5 5-\ rewaid will be paid by the Solihull Association for the prosecution of felons, on conviction of the offenders. Stolen on 20th instant;— an old female Donkey and a male Donkey, 2 years old, both of a grey colour. Information to Mr. Superintendent Yardley, Acocks Green, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, November 25. Stolen on 16th instant :— 2 Horses, one a grey gelding, about 9 years old, has been blistered on near side pin bone, walks rather lame behind, hair over pin bone very spare, about 8 inches in diameter ; the other a grey Mare, about 15 hands 2 inches high, about, 7 years old, walks very lame, fired iu front, 3 or 4 holes burnt in over each front hoof. Iufor- mation to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, November 25. Supposed stolen, from a field, since 20th inst, near the Philanthropic Farm School, Red hill:— a black Mare, about 14 hands high, very long ears, a high steper, and a long tail; in good condition. Also a bay cob Gelding, with white hind feet, a very big head, and very thick set, about 15 hands high ; in good, con- dition. Informatfon to the Head Constable, Redtill, Surrey.— Bow- st., Nov. 25. Stolen on 2nd instant, from the Crown Inn, Rugby :— a Pony and Trap. By J. G. Matherson, a Scotchman, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, auburn whiskers and moustache, clean shaved chin ; dressed in a Scotch mixture suit, and long grey ulster over- coat. He stated that he was a tea- dealer, aud was supplied by tiiu British Tea Association, 118, Southwark- street, London, and was calling on country shopkeepers, to open up a new trade. It has since been ascertained that he has called i 2 POLICE GAZETTE. November 25 ( as above) on the principal shopkeepers in villages, in Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. He is in the habit of putting up at respectable inns nightly. The Pony is a bay mare, G years old, 124 hands high, black points, long tail, and is in foal; a set o£ brass- mounted Harness ; a spring Trap, painted dark green, light green lines, and plain sides. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Patmer, Rugby, who holds warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 25. Supposed stolen from a meadow, in Guildford, during the night of the 10th instant:— a bay Horse, abont 15 bands 2 inches high, 5 years old, two white heels, one or two saddle marks on back, short tail. Also a bay Mare, about 15 hands high, 6 years old, white heel near hind, short tail. Both quiet and in good condition. Informa'ion to Mr. Supt. Law, Borough Police Station, Guildford, Suirey.— Bvw- st., Nov. 25. Found in Powlas- lane, Redditch, at 6 30 p. m., 18th :— A chesnut Colt, abiut 3 years- old, 14 hands high, white star on forehead, white stroke on neck, not shod, had on a hemp htiter. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, November 25. Found at Steeple Aston, Oxon, on 7th instant:— a brown nag Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, long coat, short tail, shod all round, and in good working condition, supposed stolen. Information to Inspector Wyatt, Deddington, Oxon. — Bow- street, November 23. Wanted for stealing 24 Bullocks ( recovered), from Grafton Regis, Northamptonshire :— a man, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair ( rather thick and cut square at back), very little hair on face if any, sore blotches on face, slight build, has the appearance of a farmer's sou ; dressed in a dark diagonal cloth suit and hard billycock hat. About 2 p m. on 15th instant, he ordered trucks for 40 beasts at the Midland Railway Station, Northampton, for Leicester ; then engaged two drovers, aud fetched the beasts out of two fields nine miles away, and drove them to the Northampton Station, whert they were loaded and sent to Leceister, and sold by auction. The auctioneer gave him £ 50 in cash, and a crossed cheque, No. 1), and dated 16th instant, for £ 203 2s. 6d., drawn on Paget's Bank, Leicester ( stopped). Information to Mr. Supt. Norman, County Police Station, Towcester, Noith- amptonshire.— Bow- street, Noember 21. Supposed stolen from a field at Leominster, since 15th instaut:- a strong black cob Mar;.-, aged, about 14 hawls high, tail cut Bquare, both earsi are slit open to the top, has been recently working in harness. Information to Head Constable Johnson, Leominster.— Bow- s'reet, November 21. Stolen from a meadow from Stoke next Guildford, during the light of 9th instant:— a bay nag Horse, 14 hands 2 inches high, lame of the off fore foot, having been hurt in the shoulder. Information to Mr. Supt. Barker, Surrey Con- stabulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, November 21. Stolen from a field at Gwemygo, Kerry, about 1st inst. : — 4 Kerry Hill Lambs, piteh mark ' I. M.' on near side and the form of a heart on off side, point of both ears cropt, left ear slit, and key notch in upper side of right ear. Informa- tion to the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, or to Police Constable Tanner, Kerry, Montgomeryshire. — Bow- street, November 21. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Charged with embezzlement:— JOE BARKWORTH, grocer's porter, 22 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh com- plexion, slight moustache, no whiskers ; will probably be (' rissed in a new suit of clothes, has been in America where le was employed as a professional rink skater. It is believed that he will endeavour to leave the country. Information to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield.— Bows'., Nov- mber 25. Stolen from several stables at Wall and Ticklerton, duiiig the night of 17th instant :— a grey Overcoat, with black velvet collar, lined with black and purple lining, and black cloth buttons ; a pair of Boots, aud a quantity of horse Hair, ( recovered). By a Man, 25 to SO years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 niches high, dark complexion, stout build, dark whiskers, and | moustache; dressed in dark brown overcoat, dark trousers and vest, black hard felt bat, and elastic side boots, had rings upou some of his fiogers ; was accompanied by a • woman, 24 to 26 years of age, fresh complexion, Btout builJ, dressed in dark brown frilled dress, dark jacket, and black hat, with lei and white flower iu it, carried a frail with a small rope attached to handles. There is no doubt but that these are the same persons suspected of committing the stable robbery at Moutford, Salop, see Police Gazette of - Hist instant, were traced to Wellington, Salop, which they left on 19th instant Information to Mr. Supt. Caswell, Church Stretton, Salop.— Bow- sireet, November 25, Stolen near the railway bridge, Lo3tock- lane, Stretford, about 9' 45 p. m. 20th instant :— 1 Shilling and 2 Sixpences. . By 2 men, one wore a black cloth coat, and a cap which cau be drawn over the ears, the other wore a rough grey coat, and black billycock. hat. Wanted, charged with stealing a Violin, at Moss Side, on 22nd instant:— a man, about, 40 or 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 7 iuches high, stout build, whiskers aud hair turning grey ; dressed in dart clothes, and dark pot hat. The Violin has since been recovered. Stolen at Gorton, between 10 p. m. 2lst, and 7 30a. m 22nd instant :— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, gold hands and seconds finger, white dial, flowered case3 ; also £ 1 2s. 9d. in Money. Also stolen at Gorton, between 9' 30 p. m. 21st, and 415 a. m. S2ud instant :— a gent's grey mixture plaid cloth Coat, two pockets outside and ticket pocket, pocket inside left breast, boue . buttons to match the cloth. Suspicion attached to a labourer, 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 iuches high, sallow com- plexion, stout build ; dressed in light plaid trousers, black cloth coat, black billycock hat, and bJucher boots. Stolen at Old Trafford, between 5 pm. 22nd, and 7 a. m. 23rd instant :— l black ebony spirit Level, 12 inches long, marked ' J. Lawcock'; 1 American bull nose Plane, black Japan colour; 1 English Do., the iron far worn; 1 Hammer aud Trowel; 2 plasterer's Trowels, one marked with cross on handle ; and 1 Gauge. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Man- chester.— Bow- street, Nov. 25. Charged with embezzling several sums of Money belonging to the London aud North Western Railway Com- pany :— WILLIAM ROBERTS, 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, proportionate build, fair complexion, dark whiskers; native of Overton, near Wrexham, and has friends in . that neighbourhood, well known in that locality; absconded from Birmingham on 14th instant. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. Supt. Robinson, Detective Office, Birmingham,— Bov- street, November 23. Charged on warrant with stealing on 15th instant, a silver verge Watch, No. 4444, with ' M. Griffin' engraved inside ; and' a German silver Guard attached ; also two cases of tobacco Pipes :— CHARLES ROBERTS, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, rouLd shoulders, dark com- plexion, dark hair, little dark whiskers aud moustache, chin shaved ; dressed in dark cloth clothes, blue check shirt, hard round felt hat, and new lace- up boots ; ha3 been going about the country attending faiis, & c., with small shows, but latterly with a doll and ball stall; states thai: he is a nat've of Loudon. Information to Mr. Supt. Harris, Constabulary Office, Llanelly, Carmarthenshire.— Bow- st., Nov. 23.
