Kotice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear tile Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, tegether with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Offiee Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompaniod by a letter, signed by tiie persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without Ihe apprehension of the offender. Stolen by means of housebreaking in Shrewsbury, on 19th instant:— a plain black cloth Jacket, with breast pocket inside, pocket on each hip, with flaps, and a Vest of same material ; a pair of light grey Trousers, fall fronts; round hard felt Hat; a pair of man's strong lace- up Boots, nailed all round, toe- caps, half watertights, and hooks to fasten the upper parts, nearly new ; a large size red Hand- kerchief, with white border and spots inside ; a black alpacca Umbrella, handle small turn at the top, about half worn ; a puzzle Money- box, made of six pieces of deal, and containing about 2s. ; about 3 lb. of Beef ; 2 lb. of Mutton ; and half of 6d. Loaf. Two men were seen in the neighbourhood at 1115 p m. the same night:— one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high ; dressed in round drab cloth coat and trousere, soft felt billycock liat, had sharp features, shaved on chin, and had the appearance of a stone mason. The other about 30 year.- of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark whisker?, all round face ; dressed in a dark suit of clothes, and haid felt hat. The thieves may have gas tar upon their clothes or hands, as the fence on which they got over had recently been tav'd. Information to Chief Constable Harrop, Shrewsbury. — Bow- street, November 23. INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Wanted on a charge of highway- robbery at Kenilworth, • on 14th instant :— a tramp, without shoes and stockings, and has a long brown beard, and may have a boy witli him. In formation to Mr. Supt. Frankton, Police Station, Warwick.— Bow- street, November 21. Wanted for highway robbery at Seacombe, at 12 a. m. on 19th instant, two men :— lst, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high stout build, and wore a short jacket and moleskin trousers ; 2nd, a slender built man, abaut 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and dressed in short dark jacket and moleskin trousers. Infor- mation to Chief Supt. Egerton, Constabulary Office, Birken head.— Dow- street, November 21. Stolen from the person at Stafford, on 19th instant, during the parliamentary election :— a gold lever Watch, No. 5,067, white dial, • F. H.' in monogram en back of case ; also a gold lever Watch, gold dial, gold hands, steel second hand, outer case much worn. Wanted at Evesham, charged with violent assault, and stealing from the person £ 1 10s. in Gold, 2 Stamps, 2 Photo graphs, and a red leather Purse, on the highway at Evesham, about 1 p. m. on 12th instant:— two tramps, one is about 40 years of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion and hair, long whiskers and moustache; dressed in long brown overcoat and soft billycock hat; the other is from 55 to 60 years of age, short in stature, grey hair, and slight grey whiskers ; dressed in old brown jacket, dirty straw hat, and without shoes both are of shabby appearance. Stolen by means of housebreaking on 13th instant, at Stebbing, Essex :— a brown cloth Overcoat, double breasted ; a double- barrelled percussion Gun, maker Harcourt; a powder Flask ; a shot Bag ; six plated tea Spoons ; two ditto mus tard Ditto ; two ditto salt Ditto ; a ditto sugar Ditto ; s plated butter Kuife ; two pairs of women's Boots ; a plated liquor Tap, in case ; a small gold oval Brooch, containing hair, with glass broken ; a gold wedding Ring, broken ; a leather Purse, containing £ 1; a bottle of Whisky ; a bottle of home made Wine ; a box of Gun- caps ; and a black silk quitted Petticoat. ( The gun, powder flash, shot bag, and shoes aro recovered). By ALFRED HARVEY, alias COCKEY HARVEY, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, small dark moustache, clean shaved dressed in a tight- fitting pair of fustian trousers, very diity and greasy, dark rough jacket, black and red woollen scarf, Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 15th instant, at Hungerford Marsh, Wilts :— an old- fashioned silver Watch, miuute hand missing ; a double- breasted black reefer Jacket, pockets at sides, and one inside breast; a drab check Vest; both Jacket and Vest are full man's size, and nearly new ; pair of man's light lace- up Boots, brass eyelet holes. Supposed by 3 tramps, two dressed in dark clothes, and one in cord or fustian, recently washed. All wearing caps. An old coat and a pair of boots were left in the house. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. About 9.30 p. m. a ladder was placed to the dressing- room window, which was forced, and a mahogany wedge was inserted under the door and screwed into the floor with a gimlet. Halesowen, on the morning of 18th instant, by taking down the shutters and breaking a pane of glass in the window of a watchmaker's shop :— a medium- sized silver Geneva Watch, engraved on back ; a pair- cased pinchbeck silver Verge, small size; a pair- cased pinchbeck silver Verge, larger size; a single- case silver Hunter, small glass. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Broomfield, Kent, between 5 and 7 p. m. on 19th instant:— two double barrel Guns, one a breech loader, maker ' John Venable, Oxford,' the other a muzzle loader, maker ' Webbs, Isle of YVight' ; a lever Watch, ' Frederick Hollands,' engraved on it ; a Clock, with marble stand, square plate under face with inscription F. C. first Kent Rifle Volunteers, presented by Mr. Ashby, won by Lance Corporal Hollands' ; a dark Overcoat, velvet collar; a black cloth Coat; a grey tweed Suit ; 2 pairs of rifle Trousers ; a lance corporals Tunic ; and a leather Flask, with drinking cup on end. Stolen by means of burglary, from Lewes ton House, Sherborne, on 16th instant :— a pair of chased Candlesticks, with crest— eagle's head holding shell ; 2 plated Candlesticks, horse- shoa pattern ; a pair of gold Spectacles; a silver Ink- stand, horse- shoe pattern ; a metal Plate with Spanish arms ; a small Box, lined with gold; a small silver Box ; a Chan- taline; a silver Pencil- case; a gilt do. do. ; a silver patch Box ; 3 gold Seals with crest— eagle's head holding shell; some Ear- rings and Lockets ; a bowler Hat, marked ' Sir R. G. Glyn.' Information to the Chief Constable of Dorset, or to Mr. Supt. Florence, Sherborne, Dorsetshire.— Bow- street-, November 18. Wanted for stealing 24 Bullocks ( recovered), from Grafton Regis, Northamptonshire:— a man, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair ( rather thick and cut square at back), very little hair on face if any, sore blotches on face, slight build, has the appearance of a farmer's son ; dressed in a dark diagonal cloth suit and hard billycock hat. About 2 pm. on 15th instant, he ordered trucks for 40 beasts at the Midland Railway Station, Northampton, for Leicester; then engaged two drovers, and fetched the beasts out of two fields nine miles away, and drove them to the Northampton Station, where they were loaded and sent to Leceister, and sold by auction. The auctioneer gave him £ 50 in cash, and a crossed cheque, No. 1 >, and dated 16th instant, for £- 203 2s. 6d,, drawn on P,. g. t's Bank, Leicester ( stopped). Information to Mr. Supt. Norman, County Police Station, Towcester, Noith- mptonehire.— Bow- street, Noember 21. Supposed stolen from a field at Leominster, since 15th instant: — a strong black cob Mars, aged, about 14 hands high, tail cut square, both ears are slit open to the top, has been recently working in harness. Stolen from a meadow from Stoke next Guildford, during the night of 9th instant:— a bay nag Horse, 14 hands 2 inches high, Jame of the off fore foot, having been liuit in the shoulder. M.' on near side and the form of a heart on off side, point of both ears cropt, left ear slit, and key notch in upper side of right ear. Description of JOSEPH FINNIGAN, alias JOE THE DROVER, alias DAUBY JOE, late of Builth, iireconshire, chaigcdji'.'.^ warrant with stealing, on 14th inst.,. at Glascwm, two Ponies ( recovered) :— About 30years of age, 5 feet 11 ins. or 6 feet high, dark hair and eyes, stnall dark whiskers on side of face, dark swsithy complexion, slight build, and walks with a shuffling gait; dressed in an old dark cap with peak and ear flaps, long drab tag coat, and old cord trousers with leather strap round waist. He attends markets and fairs as a cattle drover, and is well known to cattle dealers and drovers in North and South Wales as ' Darby Joe.' Sup- posed to have a small- sized woman with him, whom he calls lillen, some years his junior. Information to the Chief Con- stable, Ponybout, Radnorshire, or P. C. Sankey, Colwyn, near Builth.— Bow- street, Novvember 18. Stolen from a field at Heddington, near Oxford, durirg the night of 12th instant:— a half- bred Oxfordshire Down Sheep, speckled face, and in low condition. Stolen or strayed since 22nd ultimo, from Hackney Marshes :— a red roan horse Colt, rising 3 years, about 15 hands high, blaik legs, mane, and tail. Information to Mr. Supt. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Found at Steeple Aston, Oxon, on 7th instanta brown nag Mart, aged, about 14 bands high, long coat, short tail, shod all round, and in good working cordition, supposed stolen. Information to Inspector Wyatt, Deddiugton, Oxon. — Bow- street, November 33. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Charged with embezzling several sums of Money belonging to the London and North Western Railway Com- pany :— WILLIAM. ROBERTS, 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, proportionate build, fair complexion, dark whiskers; native of Overton, near Wrexham, and has friends in that neighbourhood, well known in that locality; absconded from Birmingham on 14th instant. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. Supt. Robinson, Detective Office, Birmingham.— Bow- street, November 23. Charged on warrant with stealing on 15th instant, a silver verge Watch, No. 4444, with ' M. Griffin' engraved inside ; and; a German silver Guard attached ; also two cases of tobacco Pipes CHARLES ROBERTS, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, roui d shoulders, dark com- plexion, dark hair, little dark whiskers and moustache, chin shaved ; dressed in dark cloth clothes, blue check ehirt, hard round felt hat, and new lace- up boots; lias been goiDg about the country attending faiis, & c., with small shows, but latterly with a doll and ball stall; states that he is a native of London. Information to Mr. Supt. Harris, Constabulary Office, Llanelly, Carmarthenshire.— Bow- st., Nov. 23. Stolen at Suckley, between 6 and 7 p. m. on 21st instant: — 2 ladies gold Geneva Watches, one open- face, No. 51191, one crystal glass, No. 5262, maker Mathey, Geneva ; 1 silver Chain and Locket; 1 jet Chain ; 1 oval silver Brooch, notched all round; 2 Purses, containing from 4 to 5 Shillings; 3 Dresses, one black velvet, one red merino, one new green ; 1 sealskin Hat, black satin bow in front; 1 straw Hat trimmed with black satin ; 1 flannel Petticoat ; 1 black Skirt with red and gold stripes ; 2 Chemises ; J Nightdress ; 1 grey felt Skirt; 2 pairs of elastic- side Boots, No. 4' a ; 1 black Jacket, trimmed with white fur. By a young woman who had previously been employed as a domestic servaut, but left wuhout notice on 11th instant, after having stolen about £ 10 ( recovered), she ii 16 years of age, but looks) older, 4 feet 9 inches high, rouud face, freckled, dark browa hair, mole on low-, r lashes of left eye; is a native of Ink- terrow, near Redditch, She used to travel the country witU 2 POLICE GAZETTE. November 16 a shooting gallery, and was sentenced to S months, hard labour, on 25th February, 1881, at Bromsgrove, for larceny. She will probably be wearing the stolen clothes, especially the hat, as she left her own in the bedroom. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Checketts, County Policc Office, Worcester.— Bow- ttreet, November 23. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, charged on warrant with larceny as a bailee of a silver hunting Watch :— FRITZ MEINHURST, alias FRITZ McKENNARD, alias FRITZ, a German, about 55 years of age, 5 feet 5 cr 6 inches high, dark complexion, very dark hair, getting thin on top of head, moustache turning grey, no whiskers, medium size ; dressed in dark grey tweed jacket, double breasted black ribbed waistcoat, dark check trousers, bard black felt hat with flat crown, and blucher boot3. Speaks broken English, late of Tunbridge Wells. He is a travelling watch and clock cleaner, and repairs concertinas. The Watch has been sold by him at Tunbridge Wells. Information to Mr. Supt. Peerless, Uckfield, Sussex.— Bow- street, November 21. Absconded, charged with stealing certain Watches entrusted to him to clean aud repair :— THOMAS JOHN- STONE, alias ' EARP,' late of 177, High- street, Brentford, watchmaker and jeweller, 38 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, pale complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, large brown wart on throat; a cripple and walks with a stick ; dressed in dark tweed suit, high hat, or smoking cap. In- formation to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, Nov. 21. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Southport, between 9 p. m. 18th, and 9 a. m. the 19th instant :— a lady's silver Geneva Watch, engraved case, white dial, steel hands ; a lady's long gold Guard, fine pattern, much worn, had attached a small gold Key, set with three or four turquoise on each side, a gold Pancil- case, one end broken, and a gold Seal, set with white stone ; a silver Necklet, large link pattern, had attached a silver Locket, with 1 B. O.' engraved on it, contained portraits of gentleman and lady. By a young man who lodged in the house on the 17th and 18th instant, and left on the 19th :— about 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, stoutish build, fresh complexion, red hair, cut short, no whiskers or moustache, too'. h in upper jaw missing ; dressed in dark rough tweed overcoat, brown tweed jacket and vest, and dark tweed trousers, elastic- side boots, round hard felt hat, and carried a brown silk Umbrella, with straight wooden handle ; hag friends in Bradford, Yorkshire. Information to the Head Constable, South port.— Bow- street, November 21, Stolen from a stable at the ' Red Lion Inn,' Witham, on 18th instant :— a set of pony Harness, brass mounted, ( since recovered). By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light moustache; dressed in light tweed coat, cord trousers, fitting very tight, and soft felt hat. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. May, Witham, Essex.— Bow- street, Nov 21. Stolen from off a hedge at Battonsborough, at l' 30p, m. on 19th instant:— a pair of men's Bize moleskiu Trousers, nearly new, and wet. By a tramp, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark face and whiskers ; dressed in dark jacket and trousers, much worn at the bottoms, and old boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Hardwick, Somerset Con- stabulary, Somerton.— Bow- st., November 21. Stolen from a bedroom at an hotel at Preston, between 8 a. m. on 12tu and 8 p. m. 14th instant, a lady's gofcl Lever Watch, moderate size, maker Thos. Yates, Preston, No. 242, white dial, engine- turned cases worn smooth round edges, had attached a long gold Chain, round diamond- cut links. By a youth about 18 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, moderate build, light complexion, dark red hair, no whiskers or moustache, nose slightly turned up, and of good address; dressed in dark overcoat, hard felt hat, dark mix- ture suit, wore a ring on finger, a pin in scarf, and carried an umbrella. Stated he was in a situation in Manchester, and was in search of his father who had robbed him £ 50. Infor- mation to Head Constable Ogle: horpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- ttreet, November 21. Charged on warrant with stealing 3 fowls at Kidlingtoa, on 17th instant:— WILLIAM JOHNSON, alias BUSER, native of Oxford, boatman, 25 to 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair, short stubby moustache ; dressed in dark pilot jacket, cord trousers, soft felt hat, strong lace boots, all much worn. JOHN CORBY, native of Oxford, boatman, 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 or G inches high, wound on side of head caused by a fall, sandy hair and moustache ; dressed in black jacket, cord trousers, soft felt hat, strong lace boots. The two men are well known to boatmen. JOHN FULBROOK, native of Oxford, labourer, 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair; dressed in old black jacket, black cloth tr? users, soft billycock hat, odd boots, one sidt- spring. Had with them a large brown greyhound dog. Information to Inspector Hawtin, Police Station, Woodstock, Oxon.— Bow- street, November 21. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Stockport, about 10 a. m. on 16th instant :— a gentleman's silver Geneva Watch, No. 53761, has a small dinge on left side of seconds dial. By a youth who stayed in the house one night, and stated he was a native of Bolton, and was engaged at the theatre ; about 17 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark hair and eyes, glides right eye, and has an impediment in his speech ; dressed in dark coat, brown trousers, white muffler, black hard felt hat, and heavy lace- up boots. Stolen from the vestry in a chapel, at Stockport, about 9 p. m. on 14th instant:— 2 gentlemen's Overcoats— a black cloth worsted single- breasted with fly- front, black cloth covered buttons, black Italian cloth lining, collar same mate- rial as coat, the lining in right pocket has been torn and redarned, two pockets in skirt, and ticket pocket right side ; has the name ' Beaty, Brothers, Manchester,' on tab inside of collar, nearly new ; a dark brown tweed do. siugle- breasted, bone buttons to match, collar same material as coat, black lining in sleeves with red stripes in, has two buttons on left breast, one of which has been sewn up, nearly new. Supposed by a man about 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 ins. high, dark whiskeis at side, dark clothes aud soft black billycock hat. Stolen from an eating- house at Stockport, about 1 p. m. on 15th iustaut:— a white figured Table Cloth, yards square, art worn, pattern— a ball and a cut square, nformation to Head Constable Staples, Boro' Police Office, Stockport.— Bow- street, November 21. Stolen from a saddler's shop on 8th instant, at Heywood's Heath:— a pair of new black cloth Trousers; a black cloth frock Coat, cloth buttons, lined with satin, one pocket outside, one inside left breast, and two pockets behind ; a pair of grey tweed Trousers, worn at bottom and right pocket nearly out; a saddlers linen Apron, has been mended on right side ; a chamois Leather ; and a piece of Sponge. By STREETER, 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, darK complexion, hair turning grey, thick moustache, whiskers cut very short, medium figure, stoops slightly when walking, tramping harness maker, is a pensioner ; dressed in black cloth coat, old lace- up boots, red plaid scarf, low crowned liat, all very old. He is known in Horsham. Information to the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Mr. Supt. Avery, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., Nov. 18. Description of THOMAS LEE, a tramping French polisher, charged with stealing a hand Cart, ( recovered), at March, on 25th ultimo :— about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, slight build, light hair, saudy moustache, whiskers shaved off, light complexion, and face somewhat wrinkled, has been in the army, can do tin work and bell hanging; dressed shabbily in long light overcoat, dark diagonal cloth coat underneath, dark cloth trousers, and hard felt hat. Had a wife and 4 children with him, one being a boy about 13 year of age, aid he appears to know Lincoln aud and Sheffield. He is of a smart, gentlemanly appeaiance, and evidently well educated, fond of hotel and bar parlour company, where he is very fluent, and converses particularly of India and America, in which countries he states that he has travelled. He is of the following description:— gave the name of JAMES GOWERY, a tramping labourer, 31 years of age, 5 feet 9 uiclus high, hazel eyes, very dark short whiskers all round with moustache, proportionate make, and speaks the Scotch dialect; dressed in black coat aud vest, old grey checked trousers, grey cap with peak, all shabby and dirty, and laced boots. States he was born at Witton, near Nore- battle in Roxburghshire, brought up with his grandmother, has a sister, named Janet, married to John Tait, ploughman, Greatridge Hall, near Kelso ; another sister, named Isabella Robinson, a widow, living at Kiik* yn Street, Selkirk ; has been tramping in South of Scotland and North of Eoglaud ( including Durham City and County, Whitby aud Middles- brough), lor the last 12 months ; left Newcastle Workhouse Infirmary on 18th instant, where he Btayed for 3 weeks, suf- fering from an affection of the chest, and from which he still complains.
