HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Supposed stolen from a field at Portway, BeSley, during the night of 30th ultimo :— a black half- bred Mare, 6 years old off, 15 hands high, white hind legs, near hind foot slightly deformed; an iron- grey horse Colt, 4 months old ; and a brown mare Pony, 5 years old, about 12 hands higb. Strlen during the night of 25th ultimo, from a field at Dulwich :— 2 Horses, one bright bay mare, 16 hands, 5 years old ; the other dark cob, 14i hands, blistered on fore legs, both in good condition. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded from High Wycombe, on 27th ultimo :— VALENTINE MELLBOURN, late manager to the High Wycombe Steam Saw Mills Company, Limited, charged with embezzlement, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, sandy bushy whiskers and mous- tache, medium figure, has a rather long prominent scar in a downward direction on centre of forehead caused by a recent wound ; generally dressed in black- frock coat, dark coloured waistcoat and trousers, black hard felt hat, side- spring boots, might now be wearing a rough frieze overcoat. Is a native of Kent, was apprenticed to a grocer at Maidstone. Has relatives living at Chipstead, Maidstone, Dartford, and Suu- dridge. Photo, supplied on application. Information to Mr. Supt. Absconded from his lodgings at Brownhills, on 2nd inBt.. charged with stealing a man's blue pilot round Jacket, a good deal worn, plain collar, double breasted, b.' ac't bone buttons, black and red plaid lining, pocket each side, and one inside left breast; a blue silk Neckerchief; a Pocket Knife, with buckhorn handle; and a large Paisley Muffler :— a navvy, about 21 years of age, 5 feet II inches high, fresh complexion, light curly hair, blue eyes, medium build, tattooed anchor and cross flags on right arm; dressed in moleskin trousers a> d waistcoat, white slop, heavy lace- up boots, black soft billycock hat, and ( supposed) stolen coat; supposed native of Newbury or Slough, and his wifs is supposed to be in the workhouse at Newbury. Wanted at Whitchurch, Salop, charged with stealing from a shop counter, on 4th instant, a dark leather Purse, with three partitions and clasp, containing 3 Sovereigns, 4 half Sovereigns, about 8s. in Silver, and a small Key:— 2 men, one about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender made, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in light or drab cloth coat, and soft billycock hat. The other about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout made, pale complexion, long dark hair, bushy whiskers; dressed in long dark cloth jacket, soft billycock hat, and black shining leather leggings. Gave a cheque ( false) on the London and County Bank Shoreditch Branch. Warrant issued. £ 200 reward will be paid by Mr. Thomson, pawnbroker, No. 12, Ladbroke Grove Road, Notting Hill, to any person who shall give nu: h infor- mation as shall lead to his apprehension and conviction, and recovery of the whole of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen from a bedroom at the Red Lion pubic house on the morning of 31st ultimo:— a silver single case English lever Watch, No. 7022, case much worn ; gold albert Chain, small links, aud gold Key with drab coloured glass attached. By two working stone masons : One, from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache; dressed in dark jacket, and wore a blue plaid scarf. The other, 26 or 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high; dressed in pepper and a admixture suit. Supposed travelling through Gloucestershire. Information to Mr. Superintendent North, Swindon, Wilts.— Bow- street, November 4. Wanted in Nottingham, charged on warrant with larceny by bailee :— GEORGE WRIGHT, alias TALBOT, 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 6f inches high, sallow complexion, bare face, medium build, walks very erect; dressed in dark clothes, and pair of new boots; is a shoefinisher by trade, and is a member of that society. JOHN JACOBS, a Jew, charged on warrant with steal- ing'( as bailee) a number of Watches, & c., at Teignmouth ( advertsed in the Police Galette of 26th August last), has not been apprehended. A further reward of £ 20 will now be paid by Mr. Henry Jacobs to any person who will give such information as shall lead to his apprehension and conviction, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Wanted on a warrant charged with Embezzlement or Theft of £ 1,600, belonging ito the School Board of Dunoon and Kilmun :— JAMES MONCRIEFF THOMSON, clerk to the said School Board, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, long nose, slender made, dark hair cut short, small dark mutton chop whiskers, dark moustache ; dressed in a dark suit, or in grey jacket suit, and round felt hat, walks erect, and of smart appearance, absconded on 23th ultimo. He has friends in New Zealand, and at Cape of Good Hope, and will proceed most likely to one of these places. Absconded on 15th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing Silk :— JOSEPH SEDDON, a clerk, late of No. 41, Dellaford- road, Rotherhithe, 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 $!><+<** high, fair complexion, no whiskers or moustache, light brown hair, grey eyes ; respectably dressed, and speaks quickly with Lancashire dialect. Absconded at 1 p. m. 28th ultimo, charged bv warrant with stealing £ 724:— HENRY CHARLES NEWTON, a book keeper, native of Leeds, 20 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fair complexion, oval features, thick neck, dark thick hair brushed up iu front, and grows down neck, small side whiskers and small moustache much lighter than hair, small pimples under chin and on neck ; dressed in grey overcoat, dark mixture sacque jacket, vest, and trousers and round stiff black hat.. Williams, Detective Department, Liverpool.— Bow- street, November t- Description of THOMAS IRWIN, late brewers' traveller, charged on a warrant with embezzlement at Kendal, he absconded on 7th ultimo :— 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, proportionate build, broad shoulders, sallow complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers, the latter cut very short, grey eyes, Dimpled face ; supposed dressed in a dark green suit, aud black felt hat; native of Kendal. Has left his wife and child here. Has been in the Army, and was a member of the Kendal Rifle Volunteers. Fond of drink and chewing tobacco. Charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, No. 84976. a long silver Guard, single link, strong make, between 4 a. m and 6 a. m. on 29th ultimo, at Burton :— a malster, 45, years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, cut short, slender build, no whiskers, wears a moustache, and long thin nose and face. Charged with assault, and doing grevious bodily harm, by means of vitriol, at Leighton Buzzard, on 29th ult.:— ALBERT WARNDS, 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair aud eye brows, and rather slightly built; dressed in brown jacket, red aud blue striped guernsey ( stripes go round the body), moleskin trousers, and black knotted cloth cap, with peak of same material and knob on the top ; he may try to enlist. He travelled during the summer, with Mead, of Hemel Hempstead, proprietor of swing boats.
