INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the morning of 22nd instant, the dead body of a new born female infant was found in th « New Road, dart- mouth, Devon. It waa wrapped up in a red petticoat, very dirty and ragged, slit nearly in two pieces, no mark on it, with white cotton band. The Body was full grown, weighing 7 lb., decomposition was setting in. A coroners inquest was held on 24th instant, when a verdict of * Wilful Murder; was returned against some person or persona unknown. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Dore, G Division, Devon Constabulary, Kingsbridge.— Bow- street, October 31. FORGERY. Absconded from Bristol on the 24th instant, charged on a warrant with Forgery:— THOMAS B. HATHERLEY,. Stock and Share Broker, and Secretary of the Mutual Aia Permanent Benefit Building Society, 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, spots about the face, little whiskers, no moustache, has a peculiar gait in walking, respectably dressed. Had in his possession 4 .£ 100 Bank of England Notes, Nos. 56181, 56334.56369,56371. Information to Detective Inspector Short, Bridewall Street Police Station, Bristol.— Bow- street, October 31. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen at 12 noon on 25th instant:— a Purse, containing a Sovereign and 7s., by robbery from the person on the high- way, near Hillmorton. By two men of the . following description :— one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in old brown velvet jacket, dark cloth trousers, and low soft round black hat; the other about 26 years fef age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, dark moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in brown slop, and fustian trousers. Both had the appearance of tramping navvies, last seen making for Northampton, by way of West Haddon. Information to Mr. Supt. Palmer, Rugby, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, October 28. Stolen from the person, at Thirsk Races, on 21st instant: — a heavy plain cased gold Chronometer Watch, No. 18572, makers' names Bracebridge and Son, London, and lias a white face at < 1 gold pointers. .£ 10 reward will be paid by Mr. Hardily, No 15, Tubwell- row, Darlington, for the recovery of the Vil> v"\ iid the apprehension of the thief. Between 11th September and 19th ultimo, several houses a1, Swansea were broken into, and the following Watches, in addition to other articles, stolen therein :— 2 silver lever Watches, one No. 35401, one ' Peak, Workington,' engraved inside; 1 silver Geneva Watch, No. 35937 ; 1 lady's gold lever Watch, No. 82537 ; 2 silver lever Watches, one black dial, white figures, No. 7310, one No. 6132, maker Kern ; 1 gold Watch, No. 3097 ; 1 silver Watch, No. 24849 ; 1 gold keyless Watch, No. 44321. Information to Head Constable Colquhoun, Swansea, Glamorganshire.— Bcw- street, Nov. 2. Between 11 p. m. 29th, and 7 am. 31st ultimo, a lock- up pawnshop in Bolton was broken and entered by boring holes with a brace and bit through the door, taking out the panel, and the following articles were ttolea therefrom :— several suits of men's diagonal black worsted Clothing, the Coats are slack back make, single breasted, black liniug, black covered buttons, three pockets outside with flap3 over, tho Waistcoats single breasted, step roll collar, three pockets outside, Trousers have fly fronts, and lined through ; several men's new striped sateen Shirts of various patterns; 11 pairs of men's s'liped elastic Braces, new; 3 men's white flowered silk pocket Handkerchiefs, new, different patterns ; 2 men's brows tweed striped Overcoats, single breasted, buttons to match, lined .• vith brown or olive Italian cloth, plain collars, four pockets outside with flaps over and one inside. Cowland, No. 1868; a gent's large old- fashioned double case gold lever Watch, loose case, steel Chatelaine, with large nook and gold Locket attached, locket has a piece of hair in- side; a lady's gold lever Watch; an old pinch- beck Watch ; two white opal Brooches, set in gold ; a hair Brooch, with gold Chain and Tassel attached ; a hair Brooch set in gold, in sliapo of bow ; a hair Brooch, shape of a serpent with a gold heart in iLs mouth, has ' A. J. E.' engraved on back of heart; si smfill flat round gold Brooch, with pearl in centre ; a gold cameo Brooch, small size ; a gold Brooch, moss agate stone, oblong shape ; a gold Brooch, striped agate stone, oval shape ; a gold Brooch, mosaic, forget- me- not flowers, oval shape ; a gold Brooch, mosaic?, of Roman' columns, oval shape ; a gold Brooch, round shape, two pansies, in mosaic; a gold Brooch, shape of a leaf ; two small gold Brooches, one the form of a knot; a carved ivory Broooh, oblong shape ; a large silver filagree Brooch ; a silver Brooch, burnished, shape of swallow, rather large size ; a silver Brooch, with ammonite stone ; two lady's gold guard Chains ; a geld Chain a few inches long, a gold Seal with amethyst stone, ' K. M.' engraved on stone, attached ; a gold Seal, shape of a dog, with red stone ; a Ring, made of dark hair, gold- plate,' E. E. M to K. M., 29/ 4/ 47,' inside ; a Ring, made of lighter hair, initials probably ' S. H.' Who- ever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the property, will receive £ 10 reward, or in proportion to tbe amount recovered. Information to Chief Constable Nicholson, Sunderland.— Bow- tt., Noucmbar 2. stolen, by means of housebreaking, at Craigieburn, near Moffat, on the night of 29th ultimo :— a coachman's brown cloth uniform Great Coat, double- breasted, two rows of plain brass buttons on breast, top button of one row wanting, lined with black lining,* two pockets with flaps in waist, very long skirts ; a pair of hrdwn grey tweed trousers, a white and brown thread alternately showing almost a small check, fly front, headband lined with white cotton, mended on left knee ; a pair of dark grey, checked pattern, tweed Trousers, same make as pair last described, mended on both knees ; a dark grey tweed Vest, black cotton back, and lined with narrow red, blue, and white striped cotton ; a cotton Muffler, cream- coloured ground, with red spots. Supposed by tramps. Information to the Chief Constable,. Dumfries.- Bow- street, November 2. • Stolen from a dwelling- house at Lidgett . Colliery, Tan- kersley, between 8 p. m. 29th and 7 a. m. - 30th". instant, by breaking a pane of glass- in the " sitting- room window :— eight silver tea Spoons ; two silver salt spoon.; a silver mustard Spoon, all plain pattern and without initios; a quart bottle of Rum ; two boxes part full of Cigars ; a meerschaum Cigar- helder, with two gold hoops on ; a brown leather Cigar- case, with compartment for match box and " cigar- holder ; 9 lb. of rump Beef ; and about £ Z in cash. Information at Superin- tendent's Office, Barnsley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, Oct. 31. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Maxstone, near Coleshill, between 12 noon and 3 p. m., 24th instant :— a pilot Overcoat, velvet collar, black cloth buttons, ' Manchester' on loop at back of collar; a black cloth Jacket, pockets on hips ; a pair of grey Trousers : a double- breasted grey Vest ; a gilt Locket, with light hair in ceutre ; a Towel, marked ' E. Land' in ink ; and a gentleman's brown Suit of Clothes. Supposed by a tramp, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresn complexion, proportionate build, light brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in black cloth jacket and vest, dirty corduroy trousers, hard black billycock hat, and lace- up boots. Ho was seen near the house,. and also going towards Birmingham with two bundles. Information to Inspector Carbis, Solihull, or to Sergeant Walker, Warwick- shire.— Bow- street, October 31. Charged with burglary at Blewbury, Berks, during the night of 21st instant ( property recovered) :— a man, a native of Banbury, Oxon, about 35 or 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 or, 7 inches high, stout made, fresh complexion, large flat face and mouth, high cheek bones, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in old dark cloth cap with peak of same material, dirty white muffler, old rusty cloth pilot jacket, patch on back of shoulder, much worn at sleeves, blue serge under jacket, cord vest with fustian back, dirty mole- skin trousers, double stitched down sides, navvy boots laco nearly to the toes, three parts worn out; walks slow and flat footed. When talking moves his right hand first to the right and tV. en the left. Information to Inspector Dorrell, Walling- ford, Berks.— Bow- street, October 31. On the evening of 27tli instant an attempt was made to enter Ashburnham- place, Sussex; a footman was attacked and shot at, and £ 2 9s. in Money and a silver Geneva half- hunting keyless Watch, No. 23488, maker's name ' E. Dobell' engraved on the dome; and a silver Guard with Seal, engraved ' H. M.', stolen from his pocket. By two men, one of whom was 6 feet high, the other 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, with their faces black. Information to the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Mr. Supt. Jenner, Battle, Sussex.— Bow- slreet, October 31. Stolen on 25th instant, from a shop at Twcrton, which was broken into:— about 8 men's striped flannel Shirts ; several pairs of women's and children's boots and Shoes; a pair o£ women's felt Slippers, lined with fur ; 3 dozen reels of Cotton, 2 while and 1 black; 2J dozen children's coloured Socks; 8 pairs of men's blue cotton Stockings; 6 ditto of women's ditto; a dozen men's black silk Neckties ; several pairs of children's cloth Gloves; spine Needles and black Tread. In- formation Mr. Supt. - Morgan, County Police Station, Weston, near Bath.— Bow- st., October 28. Stolen by meaiis of housebreaking, at Stonnall, between 11am. ai! W 13 noon, « n iOtli instnut: — a Pilot Jacket ( re- covered), pawned at Burton- on- Trent by a man about 40 years of age, 0 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium build, dark com- plexion, hair, and whiskers, no moustache ; dressed in a dark slop, open breasted waistcoat, corduroy trousers ( appeared to have been washed, but very dirty), black cloth cap with peak and top knot, dark handkerchief round his neck tied in a sailor's knot, side- spring boots, and chock shirt ( supposed patch on sleeve). Information to Mr. Supt. Harston, or to Sergeant Pearson, Police Office, Whittington, near Lichfield, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 28. Stolen by means of burglary, on 20th instant, at Kings- thorpe, near Northampton :— a pair of blue corded serge Trousers, drab lining in waist about. 2 inches deep; a do. Vest, single breasted ; a pair of clastic Braces attached to trousers; a nickle silver pencil Holder ; a pair small nail Scissors; and a small brown handle pocket Knife. Also stolen from the house adjoining the above, during the same night :— a brown knotted Overcoat, which buttons up the opening in the skirt behind, and fits a youth about 18 years of age ; a gent's dark alpaca Umbrella, plain handle thick at top; a low hard black billy' Hat; a white merino Muffler, with black spots; a pair of common wool Gloves ; and a white pocket Handkerchief, marked ' W. E. Foll' with ink. Also stolen on 19th instant, at Thrapston, Northampton- shire :— a dozen white handle knives . and Forks; a dozen small Do.; a dozen electro- plated tea Spoons ; and 2 dozen table Spoons. The above burglaries are supposed to have been committed by the same thief or thieves. Information to Mr. Snpt. Williamson, Northampton, lr to Inspector Tarry, Thrapston.— Bow- street, October 28. < HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen during the night of 25th ultimo, from a field at Dulwich :— 2 Horses, one bright bay mare, 15 hands, 6' yearn old ; the other dark cob, 14fc hands, blistered on fore legs, both in good condition. Information to, the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metro- politan Police, November 2. Found at Bishops Stortford, Herts:— a bay Pony, 12 hands high, aged, two white spots on rezin, short tail, brown legs, and a pair of stamped shoes on forefeet, both hind shoes off, supposed stolen. Information to Deputy Cmei constatable Ryder, County Constabulary Office, Bishops Stortford, herts.— Bow- slreet, October 31. Stolen during the night of the 29tli irstant, from a meadow at Kingsdown, Kent:— two bay nag Mares, one 6 years old, about 15 hands high, white star on forehead, black mane and tail, black points, tail cut square level to hocks ; the other is 8 years old, about 14 hands higb, black mane, short tail, and black points, both in good condition, Information to Mr. Supt. Webster, Kent Constabulary, Dart- ford.— Bow- street, October 31. Supposed stolen from a meadow in Stoke Poges, Bucks, on the night of 11th instant:— three Heifers, two red and white and one roan. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded on 15th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing Silk :— JOSEPH SEDDON, a clerk, late of No. 41, Dellaford- road rotherhithe, 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches 2 POLICE GAZETTE. Nov em' e 2 high, fair complexion, no whiskers or moustache, light brown hair, grey eyes ; respectably dressed, and Speaks quickly with Lancashire dialect. His mother resides at 28, Archer- street, Kirkdale, Liverpool. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 21, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, November 2. Absconded at 1 p. m. 28th ultimo, charged by warrant with stealing £ 724 :- HENRY CHARLES NEWTON, a book keeper, native of Leeds, 20 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fair complexion, oval features, thick neck, dark thick hair brushed up iu front, and grows down neck, small side whiskers and small moustache much lighter than hair, small pimples under chin and on neck ; dressed in grey overcoat, dark mixture sacque jacket, vest, and trousers and round stiff black hat. The Money consisted ot 4 £ 100 Bank of England Notes, one No. 43 E 52,3( 53, one No. 43 J5 47,917, one No. 47,624, one No. 47,583, all Manchester 12th January, 1880 ; 1 £ 100 Bank of England Note, No. 151 J 53,041, London, 13th April, 1881 ; 1 £ 20 Bank of England Note, No. 7( i 891, Liverpool, 8th March, 1880 ; 1 £ 10 Bank of England Note, No. 01,710, Liverpool, 21st March, 188 L, and the remainder iu Bank of England Notes and Gold. Will endeavour to go abroad. £ 20 reward will be paid by Newton's lato employer for his arrest, aud recovery of the Money, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Infor- mation to Chief( Supt. Description of THOMAS IRWIN, late brewers' traveller, charged on a warrant with embezzlement, at Kendal, lie absconded on 7th ultimo :— 30 years , of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, proportionate build, broad shoulders, sallow complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers, the latter cut very short, grey eyes, pimpled face ; supposed dressed in a dark green suit, and black felt hat; native of Kendal. Has left his wife and child here. Has been in the Army, and was a member of the Kendal Rifle Volunteers. Fond of drink and chewing tobacco. Photo, will be sent on application to Chief Constable Wilkinson, Borough Police Office, Kendal, West- morland.— Bow- street, November 2. Description] of DAVID PATTERSON, a travelling draper, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:— 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, black whiskers, moustache, and eyes, thin features, slight build, black hair, a native of Barr, Ayrshire, Scotland; supposed dressed in dark grey Melton coat and vest and tweed trousers, and low hard hat, flat top. He is suffering from erysipelas in the upper lip and cannot shave. Information to the Chief Constable, Guildhall, Norwich.— Bow- street, Nov. 2. Charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, No. 84976, a long silver Guard, single link, strong make, between 4 a. m. and 6 a. m. on 29th ultimo, at Burton :— a malster, 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, cut short, slender build, no whiskers, wears a moustache, and long thin nose and face. Information to Mr. Supt. Harston, Burton- on- Trent.— Bow- street, November 2. Wanted on a warrant, charged with stealing £ 100, the monies of the Royal Albert Court 5336 of the Birmingham Midland District of the Ancient Order of Foresters :— HENRY JEFFS, bootmaker, late of Erdington, near Bir mingham, 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, full round face, dark hair turning grey, grey whiskers and moustache, dark eyes, stout build, eruption on upper lip; takes snuff; walks very erect; dressed in black suit, and soft billycock hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Gallaway, Constabulary Station, Aston, hear Birmingham. — Bow- street, October 31. Stolen between 1 p. m. 22nd, and 6 a. m. 24th instant, at Reading :— 1 trying Plane, 1 jack Plane, 2 smoothing Planes, 2 Gouges, 6 Chisels, various sizes, with box handles, 1 pair Pincers, 1 new Hammer, all stamped ' H,' in some scarcely discernable; 1 hand Saw, 1 tenon Saw with brass back, 1 jack Plane, 1 small Axe, and several Chisels, marked ' E. Bowsher.' The tenon Saw was pledged at Slough, on the evening of 24th instant, by a man 20 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, cross- eyed, black hair, clean shaved ; dressed in a dark grey coat. Information to Chief Supt Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading, Berks.— Bow- street, October 31. Description of HUGH BARTLEY, alias ' QUACK,' charged with stealing a pair of men's new white moleskin Trousers, at Bilston, on 25th instant :— late of Stafford- street, Bilston, puddler, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers, dark moustache, slender build, pockmarked, long featured, long thin nose ; native of Bilston ; dressed in old brown jacket, dirty white moleskin trousers, cloth cap, brown muffier, and clogs. In- formation to Chief Supt. Longden, Police Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 31. Description of JOSEPH FENWICK, alias ' OLD JOE,' a navvy, wanted at King's Lynn for stealing £ 11 on 7th instant :— he is about 55 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, strong build, grey hair and whiskers, good features, florid complexion ; dressed in white cotton jacket, moleskin trousers, white soft felt hat, coloured silk neckerchief. His wife resides at 4, Heap- court, Heap- lane, Bradford. Information to Head Constable Ware, Lynn, Norfolk.— Bow- street, October 31. Stolen at Portsmouth since 24th instant:— a double case silver keyless Watch, maker John Bennett, Cheapside, London, and an inscription inside case ' Presented to Sergeant Major Wheeler by the Officers of the 20th Regiment'; a gold Albert, round link pattern, a gold Whistle, a Japanese ( Join, and a small plated Key ( in shape of a pistol) attached ; a Child's navy blue Pelisse with fox fur trimming ; a child's black astrachan Jacket; a pair of man's brown cloth Trousers; an old brown Mackintosh; a pair of ivory Opera Glasses, in leather case, the ivory cracked ; a large meerschaum P;"~ the bowl representing a female's head, and a silver ferrule round stem, mouthpiece missing. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, black curly hair, parted in centre, black whiskers at sides, moustache, and small beard on chin, shaved under, high cheek bones, thin features, pale complexion, nervous action of eyelids when talking, of Jewish appearance, but is believed to be a Frenchman, and speaks good English; dressed in black felt hat or cap, with French peak, black ribbed cloth walking coat, black vest and trousers, slightly worn at bottom of legs and mended at seat, old elastic Bide boots ; may be wearing the stolen Mackintosh, and is a jeweller and diamond litter. Was at Salisbury on 28th inst., and while there had the stolen Watch in his possession. In- formation to Chief Constable Cosser, Central Police Station, Portsmouth.— Bow- street, October 31. Charged on a warrant with stealing a silver lever Watch and gold Albert Guard, recovered, at South Stockton, on 26th instant RICHARD HOWELL, alias HOWIE, a plater's helper at iron ship yards, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, round face, light hair, light ginger moustache, no whiskers, proportionate build ; dressed in a dark cloth suit, white muffler, and dark cloth cap with knob at top ; is married to a girl who goes by the name of Megg ' e Miller, at Stockton- on- Tees ; supposed to be well ku<?
