INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Whereas, await 10* 30 on the night of 19th instant, Hannah Osman was found with her throat cut in the Porch of the Railway Inn, at Bredbury, near Stockport, in the county of Cheshire, from the effects of which she died on 23rd instant. And whereas a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' has been returned by a Coroner's jury against her husband, WILLIAM OSMAN, who absconded at the time :— he is described as being about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, lightish complexion, blue eyes, thin nose, proportionate build, round shouldered, stoops when walking, light brown moustache no whiskers, close shaved ; by trade a coppersmith; has also managed a public house; is a betting man, and when he absconded is believed to have been without money. Sup- posed to be dressed in light drab hard felt hat, and dark brown tweed suit, reefer cut coat. Has worked at his trade on Russia, and also about Birmingham ; has managed a public house near Birmingham. His friends reside at Smethwick, near tirmingham. Has lately been sleeping out, and will no doubt endeavour to leave the country. The police are respect fully requested to search lodging houses, haystacks, out- buildings, and tramp wards, also cause watch to be kept at railway stations and outward bound steamers. ,£ 100 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the UniteiJ Kingdom) who shall give information as shall lead to the . discovery and apprehension of the said William Osman, or ' other, the murderer or murderers, upon his or their conviction ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will " advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Stolen in Middlesbrough, by means of housebreaking, between 8.30 p. m. on 28th instant and 7 a. ni. on 29th inst. :— a very old double case, silver verge Watch'; a gold Bracelet with fix flat links on each side and a light- colour cameo in centre, on the inside of the two centre links, which are rather larger than the others, is engraved ' Presented to Miss Sarah Watson,' also some other words and a date, supposed to be 1858; a gold Guard, belcher pattern, and a small plain gold Locket. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, between 9.30 a. m and 3 p. m., 27th instant, at North Weald Bassett, the follow- ing articles :— 2 old- fashioned silver single case Watches, maker's name W. Pratt, Harlow ; a dark Coat and Vest; pair of man's lace- up Shoes ; a blue Guernsey ; a black soft l elt hat; a pair of female's leather Shoes ; 2 new blue striped Shirts ; a pair of broad cord Trousers; a black stuff Dress ; and a grey Shawl. Stolen by means of burglary, between 11 p. m. 21st and a. m. 22nd instant, from the dwelling house of Mr. James Roberts, farmer, Lower Kinnerton : — a man's blue pilot Overcoat, black velvet collar, smooth polished bone buttons, lined with black alpaca, worn under left arm ; an American silver lever Watch, No. 47066, ' J. Phillipson,' on inside outer case ; a steel tobacco Box ; and Sixpence in silver. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Plant, County Constabulary, Broxton Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 29. Stolen by housebreaking, between 12 mid- day and 3 p. m, 22nd instant, at Ringmer, Sussex ;— a grey waterproof Cloak, a black Shawl; a child's Waterproof with Cape and black buttons down front ; a do. blue cloth Jacket, black fur round bottom, cuffs, and up front; a gentleman's brown speckled Jacket, pockets on hips ; a pair of Eye Glasses ; a speckled grey Ulster with hood, lined with brown silk, four\ buttons behind, and hemmed up to shorten it; a brown paper Parcel, containing a quantity of Fringe, and some cooked Beef anc other provisions. Stolen by means of burglary, at Thornton Hough, between 10 p. m. 25th, and 6 a. m. 26th instant:— a dark twill single breasted naming Coat, lined with dark alpaca, buttons covered with same material as coat, 2 pockets inside skirts behind, and 2 inside breast pockets ; a pair of strong lace- up Boots, with toe- caps, water tight, and nearly new, brass e> e let holes, with hooks over top holes. Information to Mr, Chief Supt. Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 29. Stolen during the night of 23rd instant, from the old church, Stoke- on- Trent, by means of taking out the Vestry window : — a small Bible, covered in brown morocco, with flap to cover the edges ; and three mission boxes were Broken Open. Bowen, Stoke- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street,^ August 26. lighter colour, and a small patch of hair off the right eye in front of head, off hind fetlock white, twists near hind foot when wafking, and was not properly castrated. Supposed stoleft out of a Field near Newbridge, Ruabon, during the night of 19tli' instant:— a chestnut mare Pony, rising 4 year old, between 13 and 14 hands high, white stripe down face, tail cut square, shod all round. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Wilde, Wrexham. — Bow- street, August 31. Charged at Whitehaven wilh stealing a Horse and Cart ( recovered), en 3rd or 4th instant ROBERT ROBSON, 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion and hair, no whiskers or moustache, blue or grey eyes, stoutish build, a native of Whitehaven; dressed a dark grey tweed suit, white silk muffler, blue cheese- cutter cloth cap with leather peak, and elastic- side boots ; has been at sea two or three voyages. Information to Mr. Supt. Bird, Constabulary Office, Whitehaven, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, August 31. Found sold by gipsy horse dealers, and supposed to be stolen, at High Roothing, Essex :— a dark brown mare Pony long mane and tail, 4 years old, 12 hands high, off hind heel white, and in good condition. Information to Inspector Ackers, Essex Constabulary, Great Dunmow.— Bow- street, August 29. Description of WILLIAM HAYES, alias BLACKEY, a sheep drover, charged with Sheep stealing, on 12th instant, at Britford, Wilts :— he is from 30 to 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, dark complexion, dark brown hair, little or no whiskers; dressed in old monkey jacket, dirty slop underneath, anil hard bowler hat, of very rough appearance; he is well known at Wantage, Reading, and Usley, Berkrs, at Andover, Basingstoke, . and Broad - Oaks, Hants, and to most sheep dealers in Wilts. Hants, and Berks. Information to Mr. Supt. Stephens, Fisherton, Salisbury, Wilts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 29. Found at Broadwater, Godalming, on 17th instant, ( supposed stolen) :— a bay cart Colt, two years old, with white hind legs. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Constable, Guildford.— Bow- street, August 26. Wanted for stealing a Horse, Chaise, and Harness, ( recovered), at Gravesend, on 18th instant:— a man, 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers, light moustache ; dressed in blue serge suit, and cloth soft cap ; lately discharged from the Royal Engineers. Information to Mr. Supt. Berry, Police Station, Gravesend, Kent.— Bow- street, August 26. Wanted for stealing a Mare, at Brandon, on the night of 12th instant ( recovered):— WM. CANN, stableman, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light hair cut short, no whiskers or moustache, slight scar on one of his cheeks, and a little round shouldered ; dressed in dark brown mixed cloth suit, aud low hard black hat; may seek employ- ment at cab yards, livery stables, or auction marts. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen or strayed from the canal banks in the parish of Stone, Kent, on 25th instant :— 18 two lair. b E,\ ves, marked ' N. B.' on the near side, tivered across shoulder, tinder fa thing in left ear. Information to Mr. Supt. Noakes, Kent County Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, August 31. Further description of the Horse stolen from Seend, Wilts, and advertised in Police Gazette of 10th inBtant :— Instead of being a black, it is a very dark brown stout cob Gelding, 5 years old, 14 hands high, hair under the belly is of LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded from Worcester on the 24th instant, charged with stealing a grey Waterproof ( females), and about 10s. in silver from his lodgings :— a man about 24 years of age, feet 6 inches high, dark whiskers, no moustache, ruddy complexion, and downcast look ; dressed in old dark coat, light vest and trousers, light necktie, low oxford shoes with a three cornered piece cut out of the back of the right shoe near the heel. He is accompanied by a woman about 22 years of age, fair complexion, light hair ; dressed in white holland dress, piped with blue, black silk mantle, white straw hat ( trimmed with yellow and white lace, with small flower in front). Has a little boy, 2 years of age, very bow legged ; dressed in light frock and white straw hat ( trimmed with blue), also a baby about 7 months old. Several I'urglaries have been committed in this neighbourhood, and this man is strongly suspected. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Worcester.— Bow- street, August HI. Wanted on a Warrant charged with stealing 6 trusses of Clover Hay, from Cockpond Farm, Hemel Hempstead :— JOSEPH TWEMLOW, 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, hair turning grey, light hazel eyes, full bloaty complexion, married, plumber and glazier. Lately kept a public house at Tring, has been in business at Liverpool, has also been to America, and is very boastful, is of stout build ; dressed probably in grey suit, aud round felt hat. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Chapman, Police Station, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, or to Sergeant Shore, Tring.- Bow- street, August 31. Description of EUGENE SAMIER, charged on warrant with stealing, on 26 th instant, in Brighton; a gold Watch with Appendages :— about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, hollow cheeks, dark hair inclined to be curlyj whiskers shaved off, walks rather stoopingly, speaks with a foreign accent; dressed in a blue diagonal cloth suit, low bowier crown hat; had with him the sword portion of a sword atipk. The Watch is a gold lever open face Watch, crystal glass, plain case, maker ' Boxall, Brighton,' and has attache! 328 POLICE GAZETTE. Stolen between 12 p. m. 27th and 6 a. m. 28th instant:— a pair of half- worn strong working Boots, brass eyelet holes and hooks at the top, tips on heels and toes, a new tip recently put on one of the heels; an old blue serge Coat; a black billycock Hat; a black handled Razor, and a shaving Box. By a man about 35 yre. of age, 5 ft. 7 to 8 ins high, small tuft o" dk. hair on chin, dk. brown or black moustache, sharp- looking, of good address, and appears to have seen better days; dressed iu brown cloth coat with velvet collar, torn at the back of neck, supposed bound with braid, daik or greyish trousers, striped shirt, light neckerchief, stolen hat and boots. He frequents low public- houses, is a great talker, and pretends to know a little of the medical art and theatrical life, and sometimes gives recitations. Information to Captaiu Parker, Tredegar, or to Sergeant Kendal, Ebbw Vale, Monmouth- shire.— Bow- street, August 31. Stolen on | 27th inst, about 1.30 p. m., a silver lever Watch, No. 24,824. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, small moustache; dressed in white cord trousers, dark tweed coat, brown knitted Guernsey underneath, and a cap with two peaks, a painter, and from Manchester. Information to Chief Constalle Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- slreet, Aug. 31. • GEORGE BANKS ATKINSON, charged with embez- zlement at Wakefield, and advertised in Police Gazette of 29th instant, haa been arrested at Selby. — Bow- street, August 31 Absconded on 24th instant WILLIAM CHARLES RUSSELL, 16 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light hair and eyes; dressed in dark suit, Scotch velveteen cap, buckle at side. Charged with stealing about £ 3 in Money : a * ix- cliamber Revolver ; 200 Cartridges; 4 pocket Knives, buck- horn handles; 2 drinking Flasks ; an Umbrella ; a walking Stick ; and a black leather Bag. Information to Mr. Supt. Hinks, Police Office, Ryde, Isle of Wight. — Bow- street, August 31. Stolen from a bed- room at the Bed Lion Hotel, Banbury, on 27th instant:— a lady's plain gold graduated gipsy Bing, with one diamond ; a lady's gold chased Bing, with three emeralds and two pearls; a lady's fancy dress Bing, with dark stone ; a gent's gold Ring, with blood stone, badly set, believed to have ' J. W.' on stone inside ; an old fashioned Bing, with hair and pearls, lias been enlarged ; a geut's mourning Guard, with gold bar ; and a few old small Coins. By a man'peaking with a foreign accent, ( believed French), about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, rather thin face, rather sleuder build, little or no whiskers or moustache, fair complexion, stammers a little when Bpeaking quickly; dressed in a yellowish brown suit, and hard black felt hat; lias the appearance of a betting man ; he can easily be identified, as he sold a Watch and mourning Bing ( which were stolen from the same hotel), to a jeweller before leaving Banbury, by the train reaching Paddington at 7- 15 p. m. yesterday. Informa- tion to Chief Constable Preston, Banbury, Oxon.— Bow- st., August 29. Absconded, charged with stealing .£ 84 14s. 4d, :— CHAS. TIMOTHY LIGHTOLLER, clerk, 27 years of age, 5 ft. 7 inches high, medium build, thin pale face, dark whiskers and moustache slight, hazel eyes, near sighted, wears spectacles, or an eye glass; dressed iu dark jacket, vest and trousers, aide- spring boots, haul felt hat. Likely to be found at Bace Meetings. Warrant issued. £ 20 reward will be paid by A. T. Hawkins, Esq., General Manager, National Dwellings Society, 35,' Spring Gardens, S. W., to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the above. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, August 29. Absconded from Bournemouth, Hants, on Monday 22nd instant, charged on a Warrant with stealing £ 150 in gold, and £ 30 in silver :— GEORGE THOMAS SCOTT, cab driver, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, pale complexion, dark eyes, slender figure ; dressed iu black coat, light trousers and vest, ana low black felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Brinson, Ringwood, or to Sergeant Alexander, Police Station, Bournemouth, who holds kthe warrant.— Bow- st., August 29. Charged by warrant with stealing on 15th instant, light spring Cart: — JOHN HALL, saddler and harness maker, a native of Walsall, about 34 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build, fresh looking, bold eyes, light brown hair, ginger moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in a brown suit Jof clothes, and black billycock hat. He was formerly apprenticed to Elijah Stanley, harness maker, Mountrath- street, Walsall. The cart was sold to a butcher who resides somewhere on the borders of Derbyshire, and wh ® has a son about 6 feet high. Description of the Cart, light spring make, straight shafts, painted outside dark blue or slate colour, strung with red, painted inside the body a light drab. Information to Chief Constable Poyntz, or to Chief Inspector Eddy, Detective Department, St. John- street, Nottingham,— Bow- street, August 29. Between 8.30 a. m. 23rd, [ and 8 a. m. 24th instant, Saint Mary's Church, Uttoxeter, was entered, and the lock forced off the poor box, and about £ 2 stolen therefrom. Information to Mr. Supt. Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant White, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, August 26. Absconded, charged with larceny as bailee:— BICHABD CHRISTAIN, 35 years of age,' 5 feet 10 inches high, pro- portionate build, dark hair, whiskers ( slight), and eyes, long face, good teeth; dressed in light coat, dark trousers and vest, low felt hat; speaks French fluently. Likely to be found at horse shows, race meetings, & c. " Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, August 26. Absconded on 19th instant, charged with embezzling £ 71 14s. :— CHAS. HENRY WINTERBOTTOM, 40 yrs! of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout, fair complexion, brown hair, whiskers and moustache, shavedjon chin, full blue eyes ; dressed in brown tweed jacket, vest and trousers, side spring boots ( imitation buttons), hard felt hat, flat top, and smart appearance ; has been a soldier, and may give the name of PRESTON, native of Lancashire, and has friends residing at Manchester. In the glass Jewel Cases was a large quantity of gold and silver Ear- rings, some acorn shape.; ditto jet Ear- riuga, one dozen in a separate case, scar shape ; several gold hoop Ear- rings ; a large quantity of gold and silver Brooches ; an old- fashioned gold Brooch, with hair plait; and a small gold Brooch, with ' Paul Pry' in it:— he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stoutish build, black hair cut short, dark whiskers, shaves chin, very slight dark moustache, dark complexion, full round face, dark eyes, Boman nose, walks erect, quiet in manner, very downcast look, very short and very thick th umbs, and cat mark under chin; dressed in black ribbed cloth suit, fairly worn, and small black hard poll bowler hat. He had with him a pedlar's certificate for the County of Devon, dated 14th July, 1881. £ 10 reward will be paid by Henry Jacobs to any person who will give such information as will lead to his apprehension conviction, and recovery of the pro- perty, or in proportion to the amount recovered. In November, 1872, was convicted of larceny, and sentenced t, oj} weeks imprisonment at Exeter, and 3 years in a Reformatory^ Since then has been in the navy, being charged wlfntlesertion in 1878, and again in February, 1881, when he was discharged as worthless. In the same month he was sentenced to two months imprisonment for fraudulent enlistment in the 1st Devon Militia ; was convicted at Dulverton, Somerset, in 1876, for drunkenness. C.' on one side, and had a Bramah lock.
