Notice.— It is requeited that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting iuppoted offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may he made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, tegether with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor Oinst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from tjie Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88i, to the Editor, tabove, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, snch Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Charged on warrant with forgery :— GEORGE EDWD. GUERRIER, lately trading as John Skitt and Co., whitelead makers, 93, Sumner- street, Southwark, 29 years of a^ e, 5 feet 10 inches high, very fair, florid complexion, round face rather full, no whiskers, small moustache, pouting mouth, small eyes, hair cut short; dressed iu dark trousers, dark cutaway coat, drab tops to his boots, smart appearance. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.- Bow- street, August 22. Description of R. M. SISK, a clerk,— wanted on a warrant for stealing a Blank Cheque, and alao forging the Cheque for .£ 12 10s., at Tring, on 12th instant:— 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, full Whiskers, dark beard, and moustache, turning grey, sharp grey eyes, thin lips, speaks very slow and distinct, has a twitching about the mouth, and large nose, is very nervous in his manner, and of mean appearance ; dressed in shabby black frock coat, dark corduroy trousers, black vest, mock button spring side bocts, a^ d Hard felt hat. Generally carries two or three newspapers in his pockets. Information to Mr. Supt. Chapman, Hemel Hemp- stead, or to Sergeant Shore, Tring, Hertfordshire.— Bow- st., August 19. Charged on warrant with larceny and with being an accessory before the fact to the forging of certain Bills, drawn upon rirms in Paris :— VICTOR HIRSCHFIELD, alias VICTOR VALENTINE CLERMONT, 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion ; he is a German, and was until recently employed by Messrs. Hucklesby & Co., straw hat manufacturers, Luton, as clerk and traveller ; he is very fond of society, and frequents dancing parties, & c., and speaks the English, French, and German languages. Infor- mation to Head Constable Jaquest, Luton, Beds.— Bow- street, Auqvst 17. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Burslem, on 20th instant :— a gold Swiss lever Watch, No. C7320; a white silk pocket Handkerchief; a pair of Spectacles and Case ; a pair of low shoes; and a small bunch of Keys. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire.— Bow street, August 22. Stolen from the person at Golcar Races, on 15th instant: — a silver lever Watch, far worn, No. 5700, maker's name— John Robinson, Chesterfield, plain face and black figures, seconds hand off, swivel broken off. Information to Mr. Supt. Goodall, West Riding Constabulary Office, Hudders- field.— Bow- street, August 19. Stolen from the person at Purston Feast, on 15th instant: — a single case silver lever Watch, No. 3224 ; also a silver Geneva Watch, silver dial, gilt figures, and has ' Joseph Lons- dale' scratched inside of case. Information lo Mr. Supt. Whincup, West Riding Constabulary, Pantafract. — Bow street, August 19. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary, between 10' 30 p. m. on 18th and 6 a. m. 19th instant, from the dwelling- house of Mr. Samuel Swiers, situate at Hope Owen, Flintshire :— a blue- black ribbed Jacket, pockets at the sides with flaps, single breasted, two buttons behind, four in front, top button hole a little worn, buttons covered with black glossy cloth, tape to hang it up by, with the name of ' Spencer, Chester' on it; three white Jars, containing about 1 lb. of Jam each; also an Apple Pie, in a blue and white dish. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- st., Aug. 22. Stolen by means of burglary, about 3 a. m. on 18th inst., at Hanmer;— a pair of man's watertight Boots, plates on the heels but only one toe- plate, three screws being substituted on the other. Supposed by a showman wearing a slop or a light coat; he left his old boots behind hiin, and will be likely to visit tramp wards. Stolen at Bronington, Flintshire, about 10 a m. on 18th instant:— an old verge Watch, hinge on glass cast broken, and slight crack on dial. By a vagrant who had lodgings for the night, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, proportionate build, and brown hair; dressed in old greasy dark cloth coat, corduroy trousers, bard felt hat, and old blucher boots. Information to Police Office, Hanmer, Flintshire.— Bow- street, August 22. Stolen by housebreaking, at North Petherton, on 16th instant:— a nearly new suit of Clothes, and a Sovereign ; the coat is a black ribbed cloth, the vest and trousers very dark plaid. A tramp is suspected, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark swarthy complexion, walks upright; supposed to have been in the army. Information to Mr. Supt. Jeffs, North Peth&^ on, Somersetshire.— Bow- si. Aug. 22. Charged with breawft- g and ' entering a loci-- up Shop at Fenton, on 18th instant, and stealing a quantity of Sweets, Biscuits, Tobacco, and a pair of leather Slippers :— CHARLES KNOWLES, 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light complexion, light hair, grey eyes, very slight moustache, small tuft of hair on chin: dressed in blue jacket, cord trousers, black hard hat, and old elastic- side boots, may be found at some iron foundry or boiler yard. Information to Mr. Supt. McWilliams, Longton, or to Inspector Macrory, Fenton, Staffordshire, who holds a Warrant for his apprehension..— Bow- street, Auguit 22. Stolen at Shrewsbury by means of housebreaking, some- time between 2.30 and 9 p. m., on 18th instant, the following Articles of Jewellery, & c.:— A round gold Brooch, set with large torquoise. A gold torquoise Brooch withJPendant, heart shape, and Chain. A gold Necklet, set with torquoise. A large cameo Brooch with head of goddess, crest set in gold. A torquoise shell Brooch with gold filigree work, and set with 20 pearls, Ceylon work. A Brooch, with coloured photo of a child, set in gold. A gold circular Brooch, set with aaua marine stones, and a diamond drop attacheu A gold Ring, set with 3 large whole pearls. 2 gold Rings, set with 5 small pearls each. A gold Ring with pearl and torquoise, and small brilliant. An oli- fashioned small Brooch, with hair in centre and set with 16 pearls. An Indian gold filigree Bracelet with serpent's head and ruby eyes. A small hair Bracelet, with gold clasp and pink coral. A pebble and silver Bracelet, oval atone;. A gold Ring, flat shape, with single diamond of brilliant water. A pebble and silver Bracelet, pebbles long shaped, a padlock belonging to this bracelet has been left ehind. A gold Geneva Watch, with chased back, No. 4107, and a fine gold Chain. 6 silver dessert Knives and Forks, with mother- o'- pearl handles and engraved with initials ' A. C. B.' and i2 10s. in Gold. Information to Chief Constable Harrop, Boro' Police Office, Shrewsbury.— Bcnc- street, August 22. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Trowbridge, between 5 and 9 45 pra, 17th instant:— a silver English level Wartch, capped, open face, seconds hands, engine turned case ; a gold Albert, rather small and very close pattern, with plain Cross, and an imitation Guinea attached; a small silver Geneva Watch, and silver guard, which has been joined iu three places, and a gold keeper Ring ; all the above have been in use many years. Information to Mr. Supt. White, Trow- bridge, Wilts.— Bow- stree', August 19. A house at Salford, on the night of 8th inst, was entered by means of a jemmy, etc., and Btolen :— a large oblong gold Broocb, composed of 3 vine ieavee, having a cluster of turquoises in centre, and a pendant thickly set with turquoises; 3 oval gold Lockets, each bearing the initials ' L. L. S. a large gold Locket, set with 3 coral roses; a turquoise iiocket, surrounded by a gold serpelnt, » n,- t having a small diamond in centre; 2 plain round gold Lockets, with carbuncle in centre; a fine gold Necklace, with a slide of dark blue enamel, having 3 pearls in centre; a small gold Neckehain, with a gold Cross about 2 inches long attached ; a long go'. d Chain, with a ser- pent's head, eyes of red stones, clasps in the mouth with a spring ; a gold Guard, about 18 inches long, small link pattern, intermixed with several square links, about 3 inches apart, which are each set with 4 large turquoises ; a small gold Brooch, form of a wreath, set with aquamarines; a round gold Brooch, with a cluster of turquoises raised in centre ; a round gold Brooch, of twisted coils, with a large topaz in centre ; a pair of round gold Earrings, raised in centre ; a pair of round gold Earrings, engraved with small leaves iu centre, and a gold Stud to match ; a pair of round gold Sleeve- links ; a gold King, set with a ' forget- me- not' of turquoises, with a ruby in centre ; a large oval black enamel Locket, set with a cross of 16 pearls, with a gentleman's portrait at back, and a small oblong Brooch to match, set with 10 pearls, in rows of 5 each; a chain of coral Beads, one yard long, with coral Locket attached, and a pair of coral Earrings, with 3 spike pendants to each ; a double link of large single coral Beads, with a coral Cross attached, set in gold ; a gold Mosaic Brooch, with 3 pendants, and another without penda- t; a gold Brace- let, set with an oi yx- stone : an onyx Brooch, set in gold filagree rim, with glass for hair at back ; an large oval silver Locket, engraved ' E. A. H.. October 16th, 1877' on back; a Locket made from a George and Dragon crcwn- piece, enamel front, gilt back, with a pair of gilt Earrings to match, made from sixpenny- pieces ; a large heavy oval silver Locket, of Indian workmanship, to hold 2 portraits; a round silver Brooch; engraved ' Lucy'; a round silver Brooch, engraved ' Alice' ; a silver Crest, representing head and neck of griffin, with arrows in beak ; 2 broad silver Bracelets, engraved with flowers and birds; a silver Bracelet, broad baud, engraved with birds and flowers in gilt; a Brooch and Earrings, with white cameo set in steal on chocolate ground ; also, 2 silver Forks, and one Tea- spoon, fiddle pattern, with crest repre- senting head and neck of . griffin with 3 arrows in beak ; and a pair of lady's elastife'Side imitation button dull kid Boots, quite new, size 7, marked ' 4648' ou theliringof each boot' near the top, and stamped'J. F.' on each sole and heel. £ 20 Reward will be paid by the owner of the property, for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property stoleD, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen between 10 a. m. and 5 p. m., on 14th instant:— 12 silver tea Spoons, small size, thread pattern, foreign make ; 2 gold gilted Bracelets, one set with large red stone, the other set with brilliant stones in centre; a filagree Broocb, large size, set round the edges with pendants ; 4 Studs, one large, and 3 small, with ivory bottoms, and gold plated tops ; a quantity of Danish Coins, various sizes, all silv ' a gold Geneva Watch, gold dial, old and dirty locking, jnd wants repairing. The house had been entered by breaking the latch at the backroom window. Information to Chief Constable, Saggerson, Middlesborough.— Bow- street, August 17. Stolen from a lock- up shop, between 10 p. m. 13th, and 8' 45 a. m. on 15th instant:— about half a dozen German silver Watches ; about half a dozen watch Works ; about 10 gent's plated Hoops, set with glass ; 2 dozen pla'ed albert Guards, different patterns ; about G watchmaker's Eyeglasses ; about 6 long brass watch Guards, washed over to imitate silver ; and about 6 or 7 Aristotle's Books, inside a case with glass lid. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Laucashire. — Bow- street, August 17. Stolen by means of Burglary, from the Black's Head Public House, Newcastle- uder- Lyme, between 9 p. m. and 11- 15 p. m. 6th instant:— a gold Albert, 18carat, with Chinese gold tassel attached T* a lady's gold Chain; a silver neck Chain, Locket attached, with initials ' F. K.'; 2 silver sleeve Links ; a silver Bracelet ; 2 gold Brooches, one square, the other has a gold band round, with water stone in centre ; a gold pencil case ; 6 dress KiDgs and a Keeper, one df the dress rings has 3 stones out; in gold, and 15s. in silver and bronze monev By JAMES DUFFY, alias JAMES WRIGHT, alias PETER MC'CUE, 28 years of age 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh com- plexion, hazel eyes, sandy hair and mcustache, but may probably becleaned shaved, scar on forehead, has been convicted at Manchester for burglary. Information to Head Constable Dutton, Newcastle- under- Lyme, who holds a Warrant for his apprehansion.— Bow- street, August 17. Stolen during the night of 15th, or morning of 16th instant, from a shop at Bolton :—- a dark rough cloth jacket, slack back, man's size, two pockets and ticket pocket outside, black round bone buttons ; a Vest to match, both have striped lining ; 1 black fine ribbed cloth mourning Coat, pockets in laps behind, one outside breast pocket and ticket pocket, lined with dark lining which is torn in several places near the bottom, all the buttons, except one, have been cut off; 1 pair men's lace- up Boots, heavy nailed, tone row of nails out of right boot, have. been soled and heeled, toe- eapped, in good condition ; 1 pair of elastic- side Boots to fit a boy 8 or 9 years of age, toe- capped, nearly new; i black billycock hat, ' Watson' inside; 1 Geneva Watch, metal cases; 51b. of Tea ; 6 or 6 lb. of Sugar; 4 loaves of Bread ; 1 pair women's Clogs, toe- capped, black clasps. Stolen by means of burglary at Faddiley, Cheshire, between 11 p . m., 14th, and 6 a. m., 15th instant : — a single breasted brown plaid Coat, mans size, oi^ side pockets on hips a small burnt hole inside left pocket; a single breasted Vest, brown plaid ; a pair of Trousers, fly front, brown plaid ; a scarlet web Braces ; a pair ladies silver Earrings ; a pocket Knife, three blades, American make " Western Cutlery," T~ r — POLICE stamped on blades ; a do. English make, three blades, buek- horn baft., also an Half- sovereign, two Shillings and sixpence. Information to Supt. Mayho, County Constabulary, Nantwich, Cheshire — Bow- sireet, August 17. Stole i by means of housebreaking at Gravesend, on 8th instant :— a silver mounted Malacca walking Stick, engraved ' Presented to J. E. Clark by the Governor, Chaplain, Surgeon, and Officers of the City Prison,' and a gilt Chain aud Locket. Information to Chief Constable Berry, Gravesend, Kent.— Brno- street, Auqust 17. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING The dark chestnut mare Cob described in Police Gazette of 20th ultimo, as stolen from Lock's Lane, Mitcham, has been found.— Bow- street, August 22. Supposed stolen, at Stretton, near Penkridge, during the night of 8th instant:— a yearling ewe Sheep, marked with pitch on the Bide with the letters ' J. B.' i Also at Spread Eagle, during the night of 12th instant :— a Lamb with black face, and marked with pitch on the side with the letters ' G, J.' Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, The Green, Stafford, or to Sergeant Boon, Penkridge, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., August 22. Absconded on 16th instant, charged with stealing from Lower Norwood :— a bright bay cob Gelding, 13 hands high, 9 ' ears old, thick set, very dark points, white star on forehead, saddle marked, in good condition; a light spring Cart, painted brown, picked out red,. ' John Grove, Lower Norwood, Sui r- y.,' on sha t ' Grove, Family Butcher,' on side ; a set of brass- mounted Harness ; and £ 9 in Gold :— a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, ' E. A.' in blue itk on right wrist; dressed as a butcher, native of King's Langley, Hertfordshire. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, August 22. Stolen from a field at Woolston, near Oswestry, during the night of 17th instant:— a chesnut cob Horse, 5 years old, 15 hands high, hind feet white, white star on forehead, a few white hairs ou back, chipped knees. Also stolen the same night from a field at Ruyton Eleven Towns :— a daik roan mare Pony, aged, 13 hands high, flaxen mane and tail, tail cut tquare,. small white star ou forehead, one fetlock dislocated, supposed uear one. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Edwards, Knockin Heath, K. S. O., Salop. — Bow- street, August 22. Found at Evesham ( supposed stolen), a cream coloured horse Pony, in good condition. Information to Mn Supt. Kemp, Pershore, or to Sergeant Ganderton, Evesham, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, August 19. Wanted for stealing a Horse at Northway, on the night of 10th instant ( recovered) :— a mau, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, thin features, no whiskers or mous- tache ; dressed in a dark mixture cloth jacket aud veBt, tight fitting cor. dufoy trousers, much worn at the bottom, lace- up boots, and h » rd blaek hat; was carrying a light brown mack- intosh on his arm, which he offered for sale at a public- house, near Broadbury, and had a Scotch sheep dog with him. He was at Tewkesbury on 19th instant, iu company Pith some Welsh horse dealers, named Jones and Davis, and a coloured man. Information to Sergeant Rose, Police Station, Tewkes- bury.— Bow- street, August 19. Respecting the Pony, Cart, and Harness, stolen from Tunbridge Wells, aud advertised in Police Gazette of 20th * ultimo :— the pony has been found at Kingston- on- Thames, in possession of a man who is remanded at Tunbridge Wells, until 22nd iustant, charged with stealing it; the cart and harness has not been recovered :— he gave the name of JAMES LEE, alias KING, his right name is believed to be ANGEL, of No. 6, Stafford mews, Queen's- road, Richmond, Surrey, where he has a wife and four children, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, very fair bair, whiskers, and moustache, chin shaved, blue eyes, square shoulders; dressed in a dark blue cloth overcoat, black vest, dark striped trousers, black Oxford hat, and lace- up boots; says he was born at Chippenham, Wiltshire, is a general dealer, and speaks sharply. Information to the Head Constable, TunbridgeWells.— Bow- street, August 19. Stolen during the night of 9th instant, from a field at Seals, Leicestershire :— a bay nag Mare, aged, in low. condition, about 15 hands high, bang tail, white mark on near hind foot, mane chaffed off at collar, and short distance up the neck, aud falls partly on the near side, bends over at the knees, and is a crib biter. Suppose^ by two men, one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout build, full face, light hair cut short, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in light coloured clothes, and light billy hat, The other about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, darkjiair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed iu dark clothing, arid dark billy hat, had the appearance of low horse dealers. Information to Inspector Holloway, Ashby- de- la- Zouch, Leicestershire. — Bow- street, August 19. build, light complexion, GAZETTE. August 22 and moustache, hair, whiskers redish nose, scar on lower Tf>, third finger of right hand con- tracted and turns inwar^ to palm, dissipated appearance; dressed when last seen in brown tweed coat, light trousers and vest, and black hard felt hat. When excited, has the habit of striking his hands together ; was born in Brazil, and will endeavour to leave the country. Please enquire at shipping offices, and all outward bound vessels to be searched Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Willians, Detective Depart ment, Liverpool.— Bow- street, August 22. Charged on warrant with larceny on 12th instant, as bailee of £ 4 18s.:— JOSEPH RICHARDSON, miner, late of Westwood Colliery, supposed to belong to As^ atria or Cockermouth, Cumberland, 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, pale consumptive appearance, dark hair, cut short, slight dark whiskers; dressed in light tweed jacket, dark corded trousers, brown cloth cap, and light muftlei with blue spots. Supposed to be accompanied by a man whose right leg is shorter than his left. Information to Mr. Supt. Oliver, Consett, Durham.— Bow- street, August 22. £ 5 reward will be given by Mr. Supt. White, for infor- mation leading to the recovery of the cob Gelding, advertised in Police Gazrtte of 10th instant, and conviction of the thief or thieves. The colour of the horse is not jet black, but very dark brown, and the small patch of hair may be missing from over the right instead of the left eye. Supposed stolen by gipsies returning from Tan Hill Fair. Information to Mr. Supt. White, Wilts Constabulary, Trowbridge.— Bow- street, August 19. Stolen from a stable at Melbourne Farm, Writtle, between 11 p. m. on the night of 15th instant and 6 a, m. on 16th instant:— a dark brown thoroughbred nag Mare, 9 yrs. old, 15 hands high, short tail cut Bquare, short mane, hocks fired, one hind heel cracked, scar on rump near side near the tail, scar on the neck under the mane ( could not be seen except by raising the mane up) ; also an old set of silver mounted Harness, monogram ' E. R.' on rosette on side of bridle. The thieves had with them a horse and a narrow cart, judging from the marks on the ground. A reward of £ 5 will be given by the owner, Mr. Bosling, to any person who will give such information that will lead to the apprehension and convietion of the thief or thieves and restoration of the Mare. Information to Mr. Supt. Lennon, Constabulary Office, Chelmsford, Essex.— Bow- street August 17. Description of a man, giving the name of G. L.
