THOMAS QUINN, late of George's- road, Manchester, labourer, 53 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, sallow omplexion, black hair, small black moustache, no whiskers, hazel eyes, slender build, nail second right finger recently broken ; native of Manchester, and single ; dressed in old black faded reefer jacket, large black patch on each shoulder, old brown trousers, light- coloured vest, dirty, old elastic- aide boots, and hard billy hat. Both men are believed to be followers of Taylor's American Circus. Information to Mr. Supt. Crisp, Stone, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, June 1. Stolen on 30th ultimo, from the person of a lady at Newark Market- place :— a £ 5 Bank of England Note, No. 10. By a man, between 30 and 40 years of age, about & feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build, light complexion, light hair, no whiskers or moustache, a little light sandy hair on end of chin ; dressed in a drab suit and grey cloth cap. Information to Chief Constable Liddell, Newark, Notts.— Bow- st., June 1. Stolen from the person at Harpenden Race Course, on 27th ultimo :— a lady's ordinary size Watch, with a round mark on the back of the case outside, jewelled in main wheel, maker's name Stauffer, Cape Pend, or Cape Town. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Isgate, Police Station, Watford, Herts.— Bow- street. June 1. cord trousers, woollen shirt, light and grey stripes, woollen drawers, and red woollen scarf, blue cap, turned up, with brown velvet; is an Irishman, and has been in the army. JOHN WILSON, labourer, 27 years of age, 5 feet 2i ins. high, very daik brown hair, dark eyes and complexion, slight dark moustache, and whiskers about a month's growth; dressed in a brown mixture suit, nearly new, black hard felt hat, blucher boots ; belongs to the 2nd West York Militia. Information to Mr. Supt. Nicholson, North Biding Constabu- lary, Leyburn. - Bow street, June 1. Stolen by means of Burglary at Scarning, on the night of 29th ultimo :— a lady's silver lever Watch, No. 4367; a common watch Key ; 10s. to 12s. in silver, of which 2 florins and 2 sixpences forms a portion; about 21b. cooked salt Beef ; lib. cooked Pork ; a loaf of home made Bread; and small plum Cake ; supposed by a tall thin young man, light com- plexion, whiskers round his chin, inclined to be sandy; dressed in pepper and salt suit, hard black hat, lace- up boots ; seen at Swaffham at 8 a. m. on the 30th ultimo, eating beef and bread, taken from a bundle in a red handkerchief ia his possession, he was seen again at noon same date, at East Winch, going in the direction of Lynn or Downham. Information to Mr. Supt. Isgate, Watford, Herts.— Bow- street, June 1. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Remanded to H. M. Prison, Stafford, until 7th instanti charged with picking pockets, at Stone, on 30th ultimo :— DANIEL COLLINS, late of Holloway's lodging- hcuse, Bilston- street, Wolverhampton, hawker, 42 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, brown tuft on chin, no whiskers or moustache, grey eyes, Obtained from Tattersall's, by means of a worthless cheque:—' Hermit,' a dark bay, with black points, aged, 15 hands 3 inches high, has been fired on inside of both hoikB, scar inside off hind heel. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, June 1. Stolen from a meadow at Dorking, during the night of 2olh ultimo :— a black cart Horse ( recovered), and a brown Mare, 14J hands high, with a mark branded on off cheek a, MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded from Nailsworth, charged with unlawfully • wounding a Constable, with intent to do him grevious bodily harm, at Nymphsfield, on 26th instant:— JOHN MALPASS, labourer of Nailsworth, 23 years of age, 5 feet 5£ inches high, very light hair, blue eyes, fair complexion, rather stout built. Also HENRY BIGWELL, labourer, of Nailsworth, 20 years of age, 5 feet 5i inches high, dark brown hair, light blue eyes, fair complexion, anchor tattooed on left arm, boot and cross on right arm, both previously convicted of felony. Information to Mr. Supt. Ford, Dursley, Gloucestershire, who hold warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, May 30. About 11" 30 a. m. on 17th instant, the body of a female child was found floating in the Rochdale Canal, Minshull- street, Manchester, apparently from 4 to 6 months old ; it had on one white woollen sock, ribbed top and hand knit, a white calico napkin, and a fine white cotton shirt. An inquest was held on 18th instant, when a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. At 8 a. m. 17th instant, there was found in a hen- cote in Herbert- street, Cheetham, a child's scarlet French merino frock, embroidered with black wool, and a white cotton shirt, which are supposed to be a portion of the clothing of the murdered child. The several articles of clothing are now at the Detective Office, Town Hall, where inspestion is invited. £ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious par- don to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who shall give such information as shall lead to a like result. Absconded from Smallthorne, charged with unlawfully wounding on 15th inst.:— THOS. CAVANAGH, a labourer, 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, slender build, walks erect, a native of Henley- in- Arden, Warwickshire; dressed in a dark cap with peak, blue necktie, dark jacket and moleskin trousers. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, May 25. Committed for trial at the next Taunton Quarter Sessions, charged with stealing from the persons at the Bath Races :— JOSEPH MOSS, alias BOBERTS, alias EDWARDS, about 60 years of age, 5 feet i inch high, grey eyes, grey hair and beard cut close, bald on top of head, slight build, nose dis- figured by disease, lost all teeth, scars on top of head and left sicle of mouth, rather deaf ; dressed in brown mixture suit, soft bowler hat; has been convicted at Lincoln, Birmingham, and Nottingham, is very well known as a travelling thief to the police in the North of England. Stolen from the person in Langholm, Dumfries, on 25th instant,-'— a single cased silver English lever Watch, maker Picken, Melbourne- place, Edinburgh, No. supposed 6602, engine- turned cases, silver dial, gold chaptered, steel hands, with sunk seconds; had attached a piece of brass Chain, about 2 inches long, with a piece of black cotton Boot- lace for a guard, and two ordinary brass Keys. Information ts the Chief Constable, Dumfries, County Buildings— Bow- street, May 30. Stolen from the person about 9' 30 p. m., on 28th instant: — a silver Boston lever Watch, white dial, No. on case 1659, No. on movement 4080, the minute hand has a small piece broken off the end. Also a gold patent lever Watch, medium size, gold dial, supposed gold numerals, engraved case,' patent lever' stamped on inside case. Information to Mr. Superintendent Fearnside, Town Hall, Pontefract.- Bow- street, May 30. Stolen on the night of 21st instant, from the person in Preston :— a silver lever Watch, maker E. Fritson, Liverpool, No. 1302. Stolen from the person in Preston, on 20th instant:— a silver lever Watch, maker J. Bennett, Preston, dial disfigured near the second hand, minute hand slightly bent. Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May 30. Stolen from the person in a railway carriage, at Cuek- field, on 21s', instant :— a pair of Militia Boots, two pairs of worsted Socks, two Shirts, and one Handkerchief, No. 655. By HARRY, alias STIFFEN PRYKE, native of Lavenham, labourer, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, stout build, and bowlegged ; dressed in dark clothes, and has been working in London for the last eight or ten years in cab yards. Known to the Police in Holbom and Islington. Information to Mr. Supt. Chapman, Boxford, or to Sergeant Marsh, Lavenham, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his pprehension.— Bow- street, May 27. Remanded till 8th instant, on a charge of burglary : — JAMES MUNRO, drover, 56 years of age, 5 feet inches high, grey hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, whiskers all round face ; dressed in brown cloth coat, light grey vest, dark Wanted, charged with housebreaking at Martin HUB- singtre, near Worcester, on 28th instant, and stealing there- from, 1 blue rough Overcoat, pockets torn a little on iusides ; 2 table Cloths ; 3 white Aprons, bands and buttons at sides ; 1 fine white Shirt; 6 coloured Shirts ; 1 pair of elastic- side Boots, worn a little at toes; 1 white handled Knife ; 1 Guano Bag ; 1 round hard hat ; 3 lb. of Bacon ; 1 oz. of Tea :— a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, small whiskers inclined to be sandy, freckled face; dressed in black jacket, dark vest, cord trousers, billycock hat, and lace- up boots. Was hawking needles and pins. Stated that he belonged to Kedditcb. Information to Deputy Chief Constable ChecKetts, County Police Office Worcester.— Bow- str^ X Man 30. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 9.30 and 10.30 a. m. on 24th instant, at Mallbrook, Chetton :— a silver hunting Watch, minute hand oil', ' J. Roper' scratched inside the case with a knife, steel Chain, attached with Key at the end ; a silver twisted Chain with Locket, attached, and some Hair inside the Locket; two Neckties, one spotted j two scarf Pins, one horse- shoe pattern, the other a trowel pattern ; a light grey mixture cloth Vest; and 6s. in Silver— a Half- crown, a Two- shilling Piece, a Shilling, and a Sixpence. Stolen between 15th and 18th instant, by means of breaking into the parish church of Caverswall:— a black silk Stole, lined with red silk. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Burton- on- Treut, on 24th instant :— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, gold dial, chased on back, ' E. S. H.' on back, No. 6720 ; a massive 18 carat gold Ring, large size; a gold mourning Ring, black enamelled square top, with pearls round, and hair in centre, ' Elizabeth Wilson' inscribed inside; a very old- fashioned gold Ring, oval top, with small pearls, a few of which have fallen out, a plait of hair in centre, ' Ann Whieldon' engraved inside ; an old- fashioned gold Ring, with four small pearls, and a larger one in centre ; a gold twisted Ring, with hair twisted all round. By a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 ins. high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, small sandy whiskers, stout build, broad shoulders, and round face ; dressed in cord or light tweed trousers, brown cloth jacket, with pockets on sides, cloth or felt hat. Stolen from a field at Balsall, on 16th instant:- a red Cow, 6 years old, white blaze down face, short horns, horn on off side droops down, in calf: a red Heifer, in calf, white blaze down face ; a red roan Heifer, iu calf, all three are branded in one of the fore hoofs with the letters ' J. Stolen from Llanbedr, Llanenddwyn, on 25th instant :• a light bay Pony, about 13i hands high, aged, small white star on forehead, fore hoofs very flat, hair worn off under the pad on near side, about the size of a hand, two white spots above the tail, in fair condition. " Wanted for stealing a light bay Mare [( recovered) from a field at Tyburn, near Birmingham, at 9 a. m. on 27th instant: — a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high ; dressed in dark reefer jacket, pepper- and- salt- coloured trousers and vest, hard round hat, boots well blackened, lame in right leg, carries a walking- stick, and of respectable appearance. Stolen from Little Churchill Farm, Broadclyst, Devon- on 13th instant:— a roan Gelding, aged, about 15J hands high, white hiud feet, a brown spot on each side of ribs, and a swi ch tail j and very dark drab ( would be now b'ack, as it was changing its coat) Exmore horse Pony, aged, broad across ttie back, white star in forehead, white hind feet, branded ' LC.' under saddle on near side, and near fore knee broken. Stolen from Watersfield on the night of 9th ultimo :— a brown Gelding, aged, light Kussian breed, about 14 haBds high, with long mane and tail, brown legs, has been wrung OB the withers, and the hair cut off near it. JOSEPH MITCHELL alias GRITT, is committed to take his trial at the Quarter Sessions, at Horsham, on 1st July, for stealing the horse. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemmish, West Sussex Constabulary, Petwerth.— Bow- st., May 30. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen at Old Hill, on 26th ultimo :— an old black cloth Jacket, velvet collar, pockets on hips and one inside left breast, four black covered buttons down front and two on each cuff, single breasted, the pocket on left hip has been torn by the bite of a dog and repaired. By a man, about 30 years age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build, dark brown hair aud moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in dark grey jacket, moleskii. trousers, black and white plaid scarf, round hard black felt hat, and elastic- side boots. He stated that he had got a job at the Old Hill Railway Station, as shunter. Has the appearance of au excavator. He said he belonged to Bristol. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Brierley Hill, or Inspector Walters, Police Statien, Old Hill, near Dudley, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, June 1. Absoonded from Ipswich, on 29th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 3 5s. in Money : -- GEORGE HOUGHTON, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, very clean looking, brown eyes, very dark hair, inclined to curl, ' G. H.' in blue ink on arms, about 10 stone, arid walks erect; dressed when last seen in brown reefing jacket, nearly ne*, brown trousers and vest, and cap, known as d « ep water cap. Believed that he will try to ship ai a seaman for America. Information to Chief Constable Russell, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- st., June 1. Stolen from a hedge at Brynfynnon Farm, Nannerch' near Mold, on night of 27th, or morning of 28th ultimo :— a white linen Slop, with horn buttons; a dark mixture union Shirt; and two youth's Shirts, of same material; and a pair of man's thick flannel Drawers. Also stolen from an outbuilding at Penbedw Ucha Farm, on'night of 37th, or morning of 28th ultimo :— a pair of large ribbed cotton cord Trousers, fall front, with white horn buttons; and a light brown tweed Vest, speckled with red, brown buttons, l> oth but little worn. By two tramps, one about 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion; dressed in soft white felt hat, linen jacket, moleskin trousers, and lace- up boots, the uppers cracked, carried a black jacket; the other about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed in brown tweed cap, with two peaks, drab slop, dark ribbed trousers, and clogs. Remanded to the Cambridge Petty Sessions, for stealing Jewellery from bedrooms, in Cambridge, during 24th ult.:— THOMAS SMITH, alias SIMPSON, alias BUCHANAN, 23 years of age, 6 feet 5 j inches high, dark sallow complexion, black hair, brown eyes, muscular build, long face, slight scar above left eyebrow, scar from abscess on right jaw, above right knee, and back of left thigh. States he is a carpenter, joiner, and reporter, and has no fixed residence. Also JOHN FITZGERALD, alias WRIGHT, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6i inches high, pale complexion, black hair turning grey, brown eye", muscular build, oval face, scar under right jaw, second finger- nail right hand has been injured, States he is a medical student, and has no fixed residence. They are I oth wt 11 dressed, and are of gentlemanly appear- ance. Had in their possession two white pocket- handker- obiefs marked ' F. W. Cornish.' Information to Mr. W. G. Absconded from Hertford, on 29th ultimo:— WILLIAM FROST, of Leighton Buzzard, a watchmaker, 17 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hail; was dressed in a light tweed coat aud vest, brown trousers, and hard felt hat; charged with larceny as bailee. Stolen fmm a stable at Aldershot. on 27th instant:— a silver Geneva lever 3i plate hunting Watch, white dial, steel bauds and seconds, aud ' F. M.' engraved on outside of case. Supposed by a groom, 18 to 20 years of age, about 5 ft. 5 ins. high, fair complexion, very slight moustache, aud faw light hairs on chin ; dressed in a dark check tweed stable jacket, tight- fittirg dark tweed trousers, with a piece of leather let in at the bottom of each leg, and hard black felt hat. Infor- mation to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, May 30^ Charged with embezzling £ 15 :— ALBERT WILLIAM MASTERS alias W. A. WILLIAMS, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, small moustache and whiskers, rather large mouth, slit in upper lip ; dressed in dark brown home made suit, trimmed with military braid.
