POLICE PIMUTFJETI CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and of Misdi theanors of cm aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known hut not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Th Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Properiy that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6613 FRIDAY, MAY 20, 1881. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, " W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and « if Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, » above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by t'ne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without kihe apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other' wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow street, May 18. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Charged with highway robbery at Hednisford, on 16th instant:— THOMAS OAKEY, alias DARKEY, 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather stout [ make, tawney coloured complexion, like a gipsy, very black hair, inclined to curl, no whiskers or moustache, well featured, good teeth, and, freckled on back of hands ; wore a short double- breasted pilot reefer jacket, light cord trousers, and cap with tuft on top, and is a miner. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Grupie, Hednisford, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, May 20. Stolen from the person, at Machynlleth, on 16th instant: — a light or newly washed jean Purse, with blue top to draw to fasten it, made rather long, containing two £ 10 Bark of England Notes, the right end was slightly slit in centre, and £ 1 in Gold. Also stolen from the person on same date and place :— a brown Purse, containing from £ 8 to £) in Gold. Also stolen from the person, on same date and place :— a Bank Receipt, National Provincial Bank of England, Limited, Machynlleth, No. 30370, for £ 10, in favour of David Morgan, Llanrddol, dated 16th May, 1881. Information to P. C. Williams, Machynlleth, or at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, May 20. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 15th instant, the dead body of a newly born female child, was found on the cliff above the Great Western Railway, near Shaldon Bridge, adjoining the highway between Teignmouth and Bishopsteignton :— it was in a bad state of decomposition, and had apparently been there about a month, there were no marks of violence on the body, it was wrapped up in a very old flannel petticoat, and the leg of a pair of woman's drawers, sewn up at the bottom, and forming a. bag, and the whole in a piece of brown paper, tied with a piece of small rope, there were no marks of identification on any of the articles. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict of * Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned. Information to Mr. Supt. Moore, E Division, Devon Constabulary, Chudleigh.— Bow- street, May 18. Between 8' 25 and 8' 40 p. m., on 11th ultimo, ANN REVILLE, of Slough, Bucks, was murdered at her resi- dence. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious par- don to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who shall give such information as shall lead to a like result, Information to Chief Constable Drake, Aylesbury, or to Mr. Supt. Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- st., May 18. Charged on 9 coroner's warrant with the manslaughter of his wife, at Aldershot, on 3rd inst. THOMAS BRENNEN, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7& inches high, fair com- plexion, brown hair, light brown moustache, whiskers, and rather long beard, walks with a military gait, having served 12 years in the Royal Engineers. Likely to apply for work at builders, timber or coal yards. Has a brother residing at 3, Benn's Cottages, Kewfoot- road, Richmond, and is supposed to have a sister residing at Chiswick. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot. — Bow- street, May 16. Bag, all much worn; also part of a loaf of Bread, i lb. of Butter, and about 1 lb. of Cheese. Supposed by a tramp. Information to Mr. Supt. Galliers. Bridgenorth, or to Sergeant Gough, Police'Staton, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Bow street, May 18. Stolen in Ripon by means of burglary, between 1 and 2 a. m. on 11th instant:— electro- plated Goods ( recovered) ; also 6 or 8 sportsmen's Knives, and a pair of lazy Tongs, polished bright steel, the knives have ' Newton' on " blade, two have been pawned at Leeds, the others were offered for pledge at several pawnbroker's shops in Leeds, but were not taken in pledge. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of a young man, an ironmonger's assistant, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, slender build, ginger hair, cut short; dressed in dark clothes ; he served his apprentice1 ip in the above shop, and was traced to Leeds, on the moi „; ng of the robbery, and stated he was going to London by the 10 o'clock train, where his wife is supposed to be residing ; his father and mot1, er went about 2 years ago to Australia. Information to Mr. Supt. Metcalfe, City Police Office, Ripon, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 16. Stolen by means of housebreaking from the Rector's office at the Market Weighton Reformatory, on the night of 12th instant:— a new silver hunting cased Watch, white dial, engine- turned back and lid, i- plate over works; also ( sup- posed) about 4 pairs Btrong Balmoral Boot Tops. Supposed by a youth, formerly an inmate of the School, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slender, round head, ill- looking bull- dog face, dark complexion, freckled, small eyes, and squints [ a little with one of them ; worked in the School at boot top making. Has an aunt living at Patricroft, Manchester. Information to Inspector Robertson, Market Weighton, Brough, or any of the East Riding Constabulary, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 16. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. About 1.30 p. m. on 10th instant, a Fire was discovered in some loose Btraw in the Stackyard at the Palace Farm, near Upton- on- Severn, the | property of Mr. William Osbourn, the whole of the out- buildings with a clover rick, a wheat rick, and a quantity of implements were burnt. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Police Office, Upton- on- Severn.— Bow- street, May 16. FORGERY. Wanted on a warrant, charged with forgery:— THOMAS S. CLARKE, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark com- BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Deddington, on 16th instant :— a men's brown cloth Overcoat, red plaid lining, one inside breast pocket, two outside pockets at the hips, and brown covered buttons ; a black cloth body Coat, man's size, one inside breast pocket, two outside pockets at the hips, and black buttons; a grey cloth body Coat, man's size, buttons covered with same material as the coat; a grey cloth Vest, single- breasted, man's size ; a short cotton Jacket, drab colour, man's sue, lined with coarse woollen check lining; 6 pairs of Trousers, man's size, one black cloth, one grey cloth, one light cloth, one dark cloth, one plaid cloth, lined with black at the bottom of legs, and red round the waist; one cord, quite new, lined with white coarse lining. Stolen by msans of burglary, at Norwich, on night of 15th instant:— two £ 5 Notes, on Miss Gurney's and Co., Norwich Branch; two silver gravy Tureens, crest— a saracen's head ; a silver Mug ; three silver salt Spoons; two silver mustard Spoons ; three silver tea Spoons, marked ' W.'; silver cream Jug, oval shape, crest— a bleeding heart; two silver tea- pot Stands, oval shape, one plain, the other bearing a griffin head ; a silver Waiter, crest— a bleeding heart; two fishing Rods, brass mountings ; a small oval Miniature, 1 in. long, subject— old lady, . date ' 1760'; two gold miniature Frames ; a gent's gold mourning Riug, with white hair under glass, engraved ' Abergail Robinson' ; a small silver Vinaigrette, embossed 1 inch by i ; twp leather Letter- cases, one black and the other brown ; and a brown morocco leather Purse. Information to the Chief - Constable, Guildhall, Norwich.— Bow- street, May 18. , Stolen by means of burglary, at Neatishead, on 12th instant :— a writing Desk ( supposed mahogany), lined with purple velvet, two secret drawers, brass handles,! and a small piece of brass on the lid ; a pair of man's lace- up Boots, goloshed, recently soled nearly through to the heel, two rows of small nails on outside and one inside, heel plates exchanged from one boot to the other when saled. By two tramps, who offered the { writing . Desk for sale on the following day at Acle. They were about 23 or 24 years of age, one about 5 ft. 7 or 8 inches high, the other 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Bouttell, North Walahim, Norfolk.— Bow- sfeet, May 18. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Tuttle- hill, Nun- eaton, on 14th instant:— a man's black cloth Coat, four cloth buttons down the front ; a pair of men's pepper and salt coloured Trousers, small patch on the inside of right knee ; a woman's black Jacket, pockets behind, fringe round the bottom, nearly new ; silk Skirt, peach shot green ; 3 small Pictures, one representing our Saviour with the Crown of Thorns; one the Virgin Mary, and the other a woman ; a a small wooden money Box, containing 2s. in Silver, 10s. in Gold, and 18 Shillings. Information to Mi. Supt. Walker, Police Office, Atherstone, or Inspector Gleed, Police Office, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, May 18. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 4 and 7P30 p. m. on 15th instant, at Crump's Brook : — a black cloth Jacket, pockets on hips and one inside left breast,. has been torn on right shoulder and darned ; a black cloth siDgle- breasted Vest ; a pair of dark cord Trousers, patched on both knees ; a pair of dirty blue worsted Stockings, a white woollen Seaif, a calico Sibirt; a blue and white pUid cotton Shirt, patched on right sleeve ; a bla k jimcrow Hat, and a calico HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Worplesdon- common, during the night of 4th instant:— an aged grey Mtare, 13 or 14 hands high, heavy in foal, and broken winded ; a blue roan Filly, 2 years old, small star in forehead ; a dark brown yearling horse Colt large star in forehead ; and a light bay filly Colt, a little white on face and hind fetlocks. £ 1 reward will be paid for the recovery of the horses and conviction of the thieves. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Con- stabulary, Guildford.— Bow- st., May 20. Absconded from Ipswich on 4th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing a white Mare, since recovered :— JOHN BURROWS, alias JOHN BARRINGTON BUTCHER, is well known throughout the counties of Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridge and Essex, as ' PUG NOSE JACK,' about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium build, travels to fairs and markets with horse- dealers, & c. Information to Chief Constable Russell, Ipswich, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 20. Stolen from a field at Allaston Mesne, near Lydney, during the night of 16th instant:— a dark brown Mare, aged, 14 or 15 hands high, white Btar on forehead, hair rubbed off rump, supposed near side, and in rather low condition. Sup- posed by gipsies. Information to Mr. Supt. McRae, Cole ford, or to Sergeant Clark, Police Station, Lydney, Glou- cestershire.— Bow- street, May 20. Stolen at Stockport, during night of 9th instant:— a cream- coloured Pony, blind left eye, about 9 hands high, white face and hind legs, black tail and mate, stands off on fore legs, in moderate condition. Information at Barough Police Office, Stockport. - Bow street, hay 18. Remanded at the Police Station, Slough, Bucks, charged with Sheep stealing :— THOS. LACEY, about 40 years of . age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, rather sandy hair, whiskers and moustache, tattooed on right arm, a pair of com- passes, and on left an anchor ; states he is a native of Abing- don, Berks ; dressed in black low crowned hat, brown coat, and coid trousers, all much worn, And JOHN WILSON, abant 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, broken nose, very dark|] gipsy appearance, black hair and whiskers ; states that he is a native of Dalsee, Herts ; dressed in fustian jacket and trousers, and cord vest, all much worn. Information to Mr. Supt. Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bern- street, May 18. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen in Hastings, on 16th instant:— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, engine- turned case, No. 236 ; a double back case gold Geneva Watch, No. 35270 ; and a silver lever" Watcb, maker Tuckfield, No. 11. Supposed by a man, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slight dark whiskers and moustache, good looking; dressed in light ulster, soft hat, and carried a walking- stick. Information to Chief Con- stable Glenister, Hastings.— Bow- street, May 20. Stolen from a bed room at Stratford- on- Avon, about 8 p. m. on 2ud instant, by a man who took apartments, and gave tae name of C. ALFORD, Lee Bank Road, Edgbaston, Bir- mingham, between 26 and 36 years of age, about 5 feet 7 ins. high, tliin, pale face, light brown hair, and small moustache ; dressed in a light suit, small dark billycock hat, and carries a du9t coat; he stated that he had a brother in the Midland Bank :— a gold English made Watch, maket3' name Wheeler and Duboise ( a small common silver Geneva Watch was sub POLICE GAZETTE. May 20 stituted on the stand); a gold Locket, containing photo of a gentleman, monogram on back ' H. T.'; a gold aud black enamel Locket' In Memory of,' photo of a gentleman ; a gold shut- up Locket, likeness of a lady ; a small gold Locket with hair; a gold Thimble, in morocco case, stamped ' Mackay and Cunningham'; a lady's Ring, gold enamelled, with blue forget- me- nots ; a Ring, pink garnet; ditto, small emeralds ; a gold Brooch, photo, and engraved on the back ' Florence Mann,' date, & c. ; a gold Pencil- case; a diamond Ring; Brooch, gold leaves and garnet flower; a small locket Chain a split Ring, with swing Seal; an English made gold Watch, ' Wheeler and Dubois.' The Pencil- case and diamond Ring have been recovered, having been pledged by him at Kidder- minster. Information to Mr. Supt. Rowley, Borough Police Office, Stratford- on- Avon, who holds a warrant for his appre hension.— Bow- st., May 20. Suspected of stealing an Overcoat ( recovered), at Worthin Pleasure and Hiring Fair, on 2nd instant:— a man about 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, small features, light brown hair, thin light moustache, freckled face and pock- marked ; dressed in a light brown mixture suit, round jacket, pockets on sides, hard billycock hat, and light shoes ; attends pleasure fairs, & c., ballad singing, and with boxing booths. Information to Mr. Supt. Edwards, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Langford, Minsterley, Salop.— Bow- st., May 20. Stolen from an inn at King's Lynn, on 14th instant, by a man who obtained a night's lodging there :— a Sovereign, a gentleman's gold Ring with white stone, a gold guard Ring, and a Paisley pattern Muffler; he is 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair, and moustiifthe, very little whiskers, rather weak eyes, described himself as a sailor and native of Northampton ; dressod in brown check suit, soft black felt hat, and scarf with pin. Information to Head Constable Ware, King's Lynn, Norfolk.— Bow- street, May 20. Description of WILLIAM WILSON, of Eldwick, Bingley, farm servant, wanted on warrant for embezzling £ 16 2s. Id. :— he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, long thin face, light hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a grey mixture suit, black billy- cock hat, and lace- up boots. He is an Army Reserve man, fond of drink and associating with loose women. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Ireland, W. R. Constabulary, Keighley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 20. stealing a sum of Money, from the St. Patrick Total Abstinence Parent Society:— THOMAS FREEMAN, a labourer, native of Ireland, about 30 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, pale complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, has a consumptive appearance, and speaks with an Irish accent ; dressed in a black twilled cloth suit of clothes, and square crowned hard felt hat. In- formation to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- upon- Tyne.— Bow- street. May 20. Absconded from Altrincham, charged with stealing two Watches from a shop, at Altrincham, on 13th instant : — SAMUEL OGDEN, alias JOHNSON, travelling watch- maker, 45 to 50 years of Sg0; 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, very short neck, brown hair slightly turning grey, brown moustache, no whiskers, redxfull face ; gentlemanly appear- ance ; dressed when last, seen in a black double- breasted frock coat, brown cloth trousers, and round black felt hat. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Little, Altrincham, who holds a warrant t'or his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 18. Stolen on 15th instant, at New Town, Ifield, Crawley ; — two pairs of half Boots, worn, steel tips on heels and toes, nailed ; and two Half- sovereigns. By two bricklayers, who lodged at the house one night, and absconded leaving their old boots behind :— one about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and complexion, smooth face ; dressed in a dark coat, cord trousers, stained with mortar, and high billy- cock hat; the other about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 ins. high, light hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, tattooed on both arms ; dressed in dark coat and trousers, and hard felt hat; took tickets from Crawley to Victoria, by the last train. Description of ELLEN HILL, charged on warrant witb administering to Mary Elizabeth Cartwright and others, a certain stupifying drug, with intent thereby to enable her the said Ellen Hill, to commit larceny :— 23 years of age, 6 feet 3 inches high, dark brown hair, blue eyes, round features, fair complexion, genteel looking; native of Blatchington.. near Seaford. Information to Chief Constable Terry, Brighton.— Bow- street, May 18. Stolen from a public- house at Upware Wicken, on night of 13th instant:— 2 Shillings in coin, and a pair of strong lace- up navvy Boots, in good condition, with the flap points cut square below. Supposed by a fellow lodger, who absconded leaving his old shoes, about 20 years of age, short and propor- tionate stature, brown hair, and small whiskers ; dressed in white jacket, dirty drab trousers, and old cheesecutter cap : a native of Cambridgeshire. Supposed to have gone in search of employment on a railway in the Midland Counties. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Benson, Newmarket.— Bcno- street, May 18. Stolen on or about 10th of March last :— a silver Watch, since found pledged by MINNIE SUINN, alias ELIZA- BETH LAURENCE, 38 years of age, but looks younger, dark complexion, rather low forehead, lost front ' eeth ; dressed in brown ulster, small round turn- up hat. Warrant issue'-!. Also stolen on 17th instant:— a Half Sovereign, and Silver amounting to about £ 3. Supposed by a lad about 14 years of age, wore a short jacket, and a close cloth cap ; afterwards he was seen iu company with two other lads, about 16 and 19 years of age; they are likely to be tramping through Kent, sleeping in unions or vagrant wards. Information to Head Constable Bourne, Rye, Suisex.— Bow- street, May 20. Absconded from Ipswich, on 5th instant, charged on warrant with embezzlement :— ALFRED DALBY, 19 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, veiythin, no whiskers, walks slovenly with a swaggering gait ; dressed in old velvet sleeve waistcoat, dark cord trousers, patch on one knee of a lighter colour, and old soft felt hat. Information to Chief Constable Russell, Ipswich, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bon>- street, May 20. Charged on warrant with stealing 52s. at Stafford, on 13th instant:- ALFRED COLLINS, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and moustache, no whiskers, stout build, and has a cut mark iu centre of forehead at the edge of the hair ; dressed in a long black cloth coat, dark tweed trousers and vest, blue and white plaid shirt, black and white muffler, black felt hat, elastic side boots, and carries a whip ; has the appearance of a horse- dealer ; he took lodgings at a cottage, representing that he came from Bristol with coIt3, aud that he had agreed with the purchaser to stay two months and break theiu in; he is tattooed on the left forearm with the letter ' A,' and other letters. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Stafford.— Bow- street, May 20. Absconded on 16th instant, charged by warrant with having stolen a large quantity of Wines and Spirits from a merchant in Liverpool :— THOMAS GARRETT, the late warehouseman, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium build, pale face, pockmarked, fair hair, beard, and moustache ; dressed iu suit of slate- coloured tweed cloth, round felt hat, and Wellington boots. He took with him a small bag;. And RICHARD COATES, a licenced victualler, about 38 or 40 years of age, o feet 9 inches high, stout build, sallow complexion, full face, dark curly hair, whiskers, and mous- tache, chin shaved ; generally wears a suit of dark cloth, aud round felt hat. Information to Chief Supt. Williams, Liverpool.— Bow- street, May 20. He was convicted at Liver- pool on 2nd July, 1875, of larceny, after a previous conviction of felony, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude and 5 yrs. police supervision. Was released from H. M.
