FORGERY. Wanted on a warrant, charged with forgery:— THOMAS S. CLARKE, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark com- plexion and eyes, dark hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, turning grey; dressed in dark clothes, and high hat, a grocer, formerly carried on business in Harbour- street, Ramsgate. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 2G, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, May 18. Absconded on 5th instant, charged on warrant with Forgery:— W. J. WILT3CHKA, late of 35, Je^ in Street, City, and No. 7, Idmiston Road, Stratford, 34 years of age, ~ feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, mous- tache, beard and whiskers, and heavy eyebrows; dressed in brown tweed suit, and black deerstalker hat. A Commission Agent. [ Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, May 13. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 15th instant, the dead body of a newly born female child, was found on the cliff above the Great Western Railway, near Shaldon Bridge, adjoining the highway between Teignmouth and Bishopsteignton :— it was in a bad state of decomposition, and had apparently been there about a month, there were no marks of violence on the body, it was wrapped up in a very old llannel petticoat, and the leg of a pair of woman's drawers, sewn up at the bottom, and forming a bag, and the whole in a piece of brown paper, led with a piece of small rope, there were no marks of identification on any of the articles. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict of * Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown was returned. Information to Mr. Supt. Moore, E Division. Devon Constabulary, Chudleigh.— Bow- street, May 18. Between 8' 25 and 8' 40 p. m., on 11th ultimo, ANN REVILLE, of Slough, Bucks, was murdered at her resi- dence. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious par- don to any accomplice, not being the actual murderer, who shall give Buch information as shall lead to a like result. Information to Chief Constable Drake, Aylesbury, or Mr. Supt. Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- st. May 18. Charged on a coroner's warrant with the manslaughter of his wife, at Aldershot, on 3rd inst. i— THOMAS BRENNEN, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet inches high, fair com- plexion, brown hair, light brown moustache, whiskers, and rather long beard, walks with a military gait, having served 12 years in the Royal Engineers. Likely to apply for work at builders, timber or coal yards. Has a brother residing at 3, Benn's Cottages, Kewfoot- road, Richmond, and is supposed to have a sister residing at Chiswick. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot. — Bow- street, May 16. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from a gentleman at Barrow- in- Furness, on the afternoon of 9th instant:— a gold chronograph keyless stop Watch, sunk, and centre seconds, white dial, plain hunting cases, maker— Russel, Liverpool, No. 61736. Information to Mr. Supt. Barker, Constabulary Offices, Barrow- in- Furuess, Bow- street, May 13. been pawned at Leeds, the others were offered for pledge at several pawnbroker's shops in Leeds, but were not taken in pledge. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of a young man, an ironmonger's assistant, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, slender build, ginger liair, cut short; dressed in dark clothes ; lie served his apprenticeship in the above shop, and was traced to Leeds, on the morning of the robbery, and stated he was going to London by the 10 o'clock train, where his wife is supposed to be residing ; his father and mother went about 2 years ago to Australia. Information to Mr. Supt. Metcalfe, City Polioe Office, Ripon, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen by means of housebreaking from the Rector's office at the Market Weighton Reformatory, on the night o£ 12th instant:— a new silver hunting cased Watch, white dial, engine- turned back and lid, 3- plate over works; also ( sup-' posed) about 4 pairs strong Balmoral Boot Tops. Supposed by a youth, formerly an inmate of the School, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slender, round head, ill- looking bull- dog face, dark complexion, freckled, small eyes, and squints [ a little with one of them ; worked in the School at boot top making. Has an aunt living at Patricroft, Manchester. Information to Inspector Robertson, Market Weighton, Brough, or any of the East Riding Constabulary, Yorkshire.— Bow- slreel, May 16. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at the Green Ridge Shobdon, between 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. on 9th instanta silvet* Watch, No. 3947, open face, also one Sovereign and two Half- Sovereigns; the property of Henry Vaughan. Supposed by a tramp, 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, dark hair and whiskers; dressed in a black billy cock, blue jacket, and cord trousers. Information to Mr. Supt, Dykes, County Police Station, Leominster, or to P. C. Jordan, Police Station, Shobdon, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, May 13. Stolen means of housebreaking, frofS S, cottage at Aymestry, on 10th instant, between 9 a. m. and 4 p. m. r— an open faced silver Watch, No. 3047, and £ 2 in Gold. By a tramp, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, and dark brown whiskers ; dressed in blue jacket, cord trousers, and black billycock hat. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Dykes, Leominster, or to P. S. Philpotts, Wigmore, County Police Station, Leominster.— Bow- street, Nay 13. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. About 1.30 p. m. on 10th instant, a Fire was discovered in some loose straw in the Stackyard at the Palace Farm, near Upton- on- Severn, the property of Mr. William Osbourn, the whole of the out- buildings with a clover rick, a wheat rick, and a quantity of implements were burnt. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Police Office, Upton- on- Severn.— Bow- street, May 16. Whereas, on the night of 3rd instant, some person or persons endeavoured to blow up the Magazine of the 4th Staffordshire Rifle Volunteers, near Park Hall, Sedgley, and close to Wolverhampton, a reward of £ 100 will be paid by BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary, at Norwich, on night of 15th instant:— two £ 5 Notes, on Miss Gurney's and Co., Norwich Branch; two silver gravy Tureens, crest— a saracen's head ; a silver Mug ; three silver salt Spoons; two silver mustard Spoons ; three silver tea Spoons, marked ' W.'; a silver cream Jug, oval shape, crest— a bleeding heart; two silver tea- pot Stands, oval shape, one plain, the other bearing a griffin head ; a silver Waiter, crest— a bleeding heart; two fishing Rods, brass mountings ; a small oval Miniature, 1 in. long, subject— old lady, date ' 1760'; two gold miniature Frames ; a gent's gold mourning Ring, with white hair under glass, engraved ' Abergail Robinson' ; a small silver Vinaigrette, embossed 1 inch by i ; two leather Letter- cases, one black and the other brown ; and a brown morocco leather Purse. Stolen by means of burglary, at Neatishead, on 12th instant:— a writing Desk ( supposed mahogany), lined with purple velvet, two secret drawers, braas handles,! an( l a small piece of brass on the lid ; a pair of man's lace- up Boots, goloslied, recently soled nearly through to the heel, two rows of small nails on outside and one inside, heel plates exchanged from one boot to the other when soled. By two tramps, who offered the writing Desk for sale on the following day at Acle. They were about 23 or 24 years of age, one about 5 ft. 7 or 8 inches high, the other 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Tuttle- hill, Nun- eaton, on 14th instant:— a man's black cloth Coat, four cloth buttons down the front; a pair of men's pepper and salt coloured Trousers, small patch on the inside of right knee ; a woman's black Jacket, pockets behind, fringe round the bottom, nearly new ; silk Skirt, peach shot green ; 3 small Pictures, one representing our Saviour with the Crown of Thorns; one the Virgin Mary, and the other a woman; a a small wooden money Box, containing 2s. in Silver, 10s. in Gold, and 18 Shillings. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Police Office, Atherstone, or Inspector Gleed, Police Office, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, May 18. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 4 and 7' 30 p. m. on 15th instant, at Crump's Brook: — a black cloth Jacket, pockets on hips and one inside left breast, has been torn on right shoulder and darned ; a black cloth single- breasted Vest; a pair of dark cord Trousers, patched on both knees ; a pair of dirty blue worsted Stockings, a white woollen Scarf, a calico Shirt; a blue and white plaid cotton Shirt, patched on right sleeve ; a black, jimcrow Hat, and a calico Bag, all much worn; also part of a loaf of Bread, ilb. of Butter, and about 1 lb. of Cheese. Supposed by a tramp. Information to Mr. Supt. Galliers, Bridgenorth, or to Sergeant Gough, Police Staton, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Bcno- itreet, May 18. Stolen in Ripon by means of burglary, between 1 and 2 a. m. on 11th instant:— electro- plated Goods ( recovered); also 6 or 8 sportsmen's Knives, and a pair of lazy Tongs, polished bright steel, the knives have ' Newton' on blade', two have Stolen, by means of burglary, from a farm- house at Aspull, between 10 p. m. on 9th ana 5 a. m. on 10th instant: a black cloth Suit, to fit a youth 16 years of age, consisting of Jacket, Vest and Trousers; a black cloth Jacket and Trousers, to fit a youth 16 years of age ; a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, 4 pockets outside, and striped winsey lining, to fit a youth 16 years of age ; a pair of grey tweed striped Trousers, black stripe down side; a pair of Boots, elastic sides, the left boot burst out at the side ; a plaid silk Neckerchief, blue and red colours; a silver verge Watch, No. 9073 ; a single bar- relled Gun, muzzle loader; a copper Powder Flask, with brass top; and a leather Shot Bag. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, County Police Office, Bolton. — Bow- street, May 13. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 11th instant, at Rosherfield, Sussex :— 1 Half- sovereign, 2 Florins, 2 Shillings, 1 Sixpence, 3 Penny- pieces, also 5 Penny- pieces and a briar Pipe. Supposed by a man from 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, small mous- tache, slight figure, and of gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in a dark suit, bowler hat; and light boots. Information to the Chief Constable of Lewes, Sussex.— Bow- street, May 13. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen at Stockport, during night of 9th instant:— a cream- coloured Pony, blind left eye, about 9 hands high, white face and hind legs, black tail and mane, stands off on fore legs, in moderate condition. Information at Borough Police Office, Stockport.— Bow- street, hay 18. Remanded at the Police Station, Slough, Bucks, charged with Sheep stealing :— THOS. LACEY, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, rather saudy hair, whiskers and moustache, tattooed on right arm, a pair of com- passes, and on left an anchor ; states hje is a native of Abing- don, Berks ; dressed in black low crowned hat, brown coat, and coid trousers, all much worn. And JOHN WILSON, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, broken rose, very darkggipsy appearance, black hair and whiskers ; states that he is a native of Dalsee, Herts ; dressed in fustian jacket and trousers, and cord vest, all much worn. Stolen on the night of 9th instant, from a stable at Longdon, near Upton- on- Severn :— a dark brown horse Pony, aged, mane cut short, and stand- up tail, docked, walks a little lame from an injury in the near hip. Supposed by a man, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, whiskers all round face; dressed in low black hat, light suit of grey clothes. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, May 13. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded from Altrincham, charged with stealing two Watches from a shop, at Altrincham, on 13th instant :— SAMUEL OGDEN, alias JOHNSON. travelling watch, 2 POLICE GAZETTE. Jlay 18 maker, 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, very short neck, brown hair slightly turning grey, brown moustache, no whiskers, red full face ; gentlemanly appear- ance ; dressed when last seen in a black double- breasted frock coat, brown cloth trousers, and round black felt hat. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Little, Altrincham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 18. Stolen on 15th instant, at New Town, Ifield, Crawley ; — two pairs of half Boots, worn, steel tips on heels and toes, nailed ; and two Half- sovereigns. By two bricklayers, who lodged at the house one night, and absconded leaving their old boots behind :— one about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair and complexion, smooth face ; dressed in a dark coat, cord trousers, stained with mortar, and high billy- cock hat; the other about 48 years of age, 5 feet 8 ins. high, light hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, tattooed on both arms ; dressed in dark coat and trousers, and hard felt hat; took tickets from Crawley to Victoria, by the last train. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Henderson, West Sussex Constabu- lary, Horsham.— Bow- street, May 18. Stolen from a public- house at Upware Wicken, on night of 13th instant:— 2 Shillings in coin, and a pair of strong lace- up navvy Boots, in good condition, with the flap points cut square below. Supposed by a fellow lodger, who absconded leaving his old shoes, about 20 years of age, short and propor- tionate stature, brown hair, and small whiskers; dressed in white jacket, dirty drab trousers, and old cheesecutter cap : a native of Cambridgeshire. Supposed to have gone in search of employment on a railway in the Midland Counties. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Benson, Newmarket.— Bow- street, May 18. Absconded on 11th instant, charged on warrant with stealing .£ 30 :— WILLIAM McARTHUR, 13 years of age, light hair, and ruddy complexion; dressed in black reefing jacket, too large for him, light trousers, blue polo cap with white cord round top, lace boots; an errand boy. Informa- tion to the| Inspector on duty, Bridewell- place Police Station, City, London.— Bow- street, May 18. Charged at Burslem with stealing the following engine Brasses ( recovered), viz. :— 2 bearing Brasses and Block; 2 top Caps with two screw holes; 2 pairs of spindle Brasses, with three screw holes; 1 Pedestal and a round Plate, 8 inches across. By 2 men, one about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, brown eyes, clean shaved; dressed in a cap, white muffler, dark coat and trousers, old lace- up boots. The other about 23 years of age, 5 fett 8 inches high, sandy complexion, clean shaved ; dressed in a cap, and pilot cloth jacket. Information to Chief Superin- tendent Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 18. Remanded to H. M. Prison, at Shrewsbury, until 23rd instant, charged with larceny at Wellington, on 11th instant: — JOSEPH THOMSON, native of Wednesbury, Stafford- shire, 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair and whiskers, tattoo marks on left hand; enlisted at Wednesbury on 4th June last into the 64th Reg. of Foot, 20th Brigade, and was discharged at Cork on 30th ultimo for bad conduct; he had in his possession a black Russia cork jacket, nearly new, supposed stolen. States that he has a sister, the wife of William Fryer, No. 3, Arton- road, Birmingham. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Ivins, Wel- lington, Salop.— Bow- street, May 16. Charged on a warrant, at Birmingham, with stealing a gold Watch and Chain on 11th instant :— LIONEL KEMP, alias BARNETT, alias JACOBS, of Cardiff Merthyr Tydvil, an English Jew, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, well built, black hair and moustache, small side whiskers, dark eyes, fresh complexion, speaks with a Jewish thickness of accent; has recently returned from South Africa, is fond of fast company and the society of prostitutes, and calls himself a merchant. Information to Mr. Supt. Robinson, Detective Office, Birmingham. — Bo w- street, May 16. Stolen from a dwelling]} house, on 12 th instant:— about £ 23 10s. in Gold and Silver; 2 gold Brooches, one small set with white pearls, the other large set with red stones ; a gold Keeper and 2 gold dress Rings, one has about eight red stones in the centre, the other set with white stones ; a large ivory Cross, about 4 or 5 inches long; a Post Office Savings Bank Book, inside of w'aich was a receipt for a gas account, paid at Heekmondwike ; 3 Purses and a washleather Bag, in one of the purses was a receipt for ,£ 100 on a Sunderland Bank, and in another a receipt for ,£ 20. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender build, fair complexion, brown hair, no whiskers or beard, moustache, right leg bent outwards ; dressed in dark tweed coat and vest, light coloured trousers, hard felt hat; a shoemaker. States he has lately returned from America. He associates with betting men and professional runners, and has worked in a mill as a wool sorter. Information to Chief Constable Clarkson, Wakefield, Yorkshire.— Bow- st., May 16. Charged with theft of £ 40 at Glasgow :— ADAM CHAS. DUNN, a cashier, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, long thin face, heavy brown moustache, bald on front of head, slender make, walks very erect, very hollow at back of neck, and has a slight burr when speaking ; dressed in a black corded eoat and vest, brown mixture tweed trousers, and round felt hat, which he wears on side of head; resided at 8, Cobden- place, Paisley- road, Glasgow. Informa- tion to Chief Constable McCall, Central Police Chambers, Glasgow.— Bow- street, May 16. Stolen on 29th ultimo, from Theakstone Grange : — a large Brass Copper ( recovered). By a tramping farm labourer, who had been employed on the farm for several months, from 50 tp 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, very red face, flat nose, several cuts of old standing on face, blind of one eye, supposed right, looks very peculiar, dark hair turning grey, bald on top of head, whiskers round face turn- ing grey, very bad walker, addicted to drink, frequents com- mon lodging- houses, sometimes gathers rags and bones, at other times works for farmers and sleeps in the out- buildings, and states he belongs to the North; dressed in a dark coat, grey cloth coat underneath, dark cord trousers, soft billycock liat, and stong lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Hjtchinson, N. R. Constabulary Office, Bedale.— Bow- st., May 16. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Farnworth, sometime between 11 p. m. and 41 a. m. on 10th instant :— a man's red, white and blue sateen Shirt; a pair of woollen Stockings ; and about 3s. in Cash. By a man Sbout 37 years of age, 5 ft. 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dirty old dark clothing, and lace up boots. Stated that he came from Glossop, and that he had got work at Crompton's Paper Works, which latter statement is false. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, County Police Office, Bolton.— Bow- street, May 13. Remanded at the Police Court, Winslow, Bucks, until 18th instant, charged with larceny : — GEORGE DAVIS, ( address— Staines, Middlesex), labourer, 5 feet 4J inches high, dark complexion, brown hair and whiskers, grey eyes, medium build, and has two D's on left side. States that he served in the 23rd Welsh Fusiliers ; dressed in long dark cloth coat, pockets at sides, grey cloth vest, cord trousers, lace- up boots, and drab soft hat. Hawke's shirt buttons and paper. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Hall, Fenny Stratford, or to Sergeant Bowden, Police Court, Winslow, Bucks.— Bow- street, May 13. Stolen on 2nd instant, about 4.15 p. m., from a sheepfold at Winderwath, near Temple Sowerby :— about 30 lb. of Wool ( recovered). By the two men described who were driving in a dark- coloured long spring cart, such as is used by potters and drawn by a dark pony, which had both forelegs bandaged :—• RICHARD MASON, a potter, of Broadguard, Carlisle, but lately residing in Foster- street, Penrith, 36 years of age, 5 ft. 9 ins. high, fair ocmplexion, lightish hair and eyelashes, lightish whiskers on cheeks and chin, no moustache; generally dressed in old cap with peak, and old dark clothes. He has two boys with him, 7 and 9 years of age, one boy has light curly hair, and the other has a small nose.
