Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed • offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Navte h given, it is indispensably necessary tkat an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with . the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, > above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly i—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will bo paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the person^ forwarding them. They should contain no _ expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without Jhe apprehension of the offender. Stolen from the person at the West Kent Hunt Steeple Chases, Sevenoaks, on 3rd instant:— a gold lever Watch, maker Barling, Maidstone, No. 16574, gold curb pattern Albert and Coin attached. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, So whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Charged on a coroner's warrant with the manslaughter of his wife, at Aldershot, on 3rd inst.:— THOMAS BRENNEN, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fair com plexion, brown hair, light brown moustache, whiskers, and rather long beard, walks with a military gait, having served 12 years in the Royal Engineers. Likely to apply for work at builders, timber or coal yards. Has a brother residing at 3, Benn's Cottages, Kewfoot- road, Richmond, and is supposed to have a sister residing at Chiswick. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot. — Bow- street, May 16. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. About 1.30 p. m. on 10th instant, a Fire was discovered in some loose straw in the Stackyard at the Palace Farm, near Upton- on- Severn, the property of Mr. William Osbourn, the whole of the out- buildings with a clover rick, a wheat rick, and a quantity of implements were burnt. Information to Mr. Supt Turner, Police Office, Upton- on- Severn.— Bow- street, May 16. Whereas, on the night of 3rd instant, some person or persons endeavoured to blow up the Magazine of the 4th Staffordshire Rifle Volunteers, near Park Hall, Sedgley, and close to Wolverhampton, a reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person, other than a police officer, who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovfry and conviction of the perpetrator or perpetrators of tfei outrage ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the outrage, who shall give evidence as shall lead to a like result. Supposed by a m » , u, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair, slight dark moustache, tuft of hair on chin; dressed in long dark overcoat with red coloured lining, which is torn and shows below the coat on the left side, cord trousers, and soft billy hat, all of which appeared shabby ; had the appearance of a tramp. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 10 a. m, and 4 p. m. 9th instant, at Height End Farm, Lower Booths :— a wooden Saveall, about 8 in. long, by 3 in. wide, containing about Is. 4d. in Copper Money. Information at County Police Office, Bacup, Lancashire.— Bow- street, May U. FORGERY. Absconded on 5th instant, charged on warrant with Forgery:— W. J. WILTSCHKA, late of 35, Jewin Street, City, and No. 7, Idmiston Road, Stratford, 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 ii. ches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, mous- tache, beard and whiskers, and heavy eyebrows; dressed in brown tweed suit, and black deerstalker hat. Stolen from a gentleman at Barrow- in- Furness, on the afternoon of 9th instant:— a gold chronograph key less stop BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen in Ripon by means of burglary, between I and 2 a. m. on 11th instant:— electro- plated Goods ( recovered); also 6 or 8 sportsmen's Knives, and a pair of lazy Tongs, polished bright steel, the knives have ' Newton' on blade, two have been pawned at Leeds, the others were offered for pledge at several pawnbroker's shops in Leeds, but were not taken in pledge. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of a young man, an ironmonger's assistant, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, slender build, ginger hair, cut short; dressed in dark clothes ; he served his apprenticeship iu the above shop, and was traced to Leeds, on the morning of the robbery, and stated he was going to London by the 10 o'clock train, where his wife is supposed to be residing ; his father and mother went about 2 years ago to Australia. Information to Mr. Supt. Metcalfe, City Police Office, Ripon, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 16. Stolen by means of housebreaking from the Rector's office at the Market Weightqn Reformatory, on the night of 12th instant a new silver hunting cased Watch, white dial, engine- turned back and lid, f- plate over works; also ( sup- posed) about 4 pairs strong Balmoral Boot Tops. Supposed by a youth, formerly an inmate of the School, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slender, round head, ill- looking bull- dog face, dark complexion, freckled, small eyes, and squints a little with one of them ; worked in the School at boot top making. Has an aunt living at Patricroft, Manchester. Information to Inspector Robertson, Market Weighton, Brough, or any of the East Riding Constabulary, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 16. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at the Green Ridge Shobdon. between 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. on 9th instant:— a silver Watch, No. 3947, open face, also one Sovereign and two Half- Sovereigns ; the property of Henry Vaughan. Supposed by a tramp, 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed iu a black billy cock, blue jacket, and cord trousers. Information to Mr. Supt. Dykes, County Police Station, Leominster, or to P. C. Jordan, Police Station, Shobdon, Herefordshire.— Bw- straet, May 13. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from a cottage at Aymestry, on 10th instant, between 9 a. m. and 4 p. m.:— an open faced silver Watcb, No. 3047, and £ 2 in Gold. By a tramp, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, and dark blown whiskers ; dressed in blue jacket, cord trousers, and black billycock hat. Stolen, by means of burglary, from a farm- house at Aspull, between 10 p. m. on 9th and Sam. on 10th instant:— a black cloth Suit, to lit a youth 16 years of age, consisting of Jacket, Vest and Trousers; a black cloth Jacket and Trousers, to fit a youth 16 years of age ; a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, 4 pockets outside, and striped winsey lining, to fit a youth 16 years of age ; a pair of grey tweed striped Trousers, black stripe down side; a pair of Boots, elastic sides, the left boot burst out at the side ; a plaid silk Neckerchief, blue and red colours; a silver varge Watch, No. 9073 ; a single bar- relled Gun, muzzle loader; a copper Powder Flask, with brass top; aud a leather Shot Bag. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 11th instant, at Rosherfield, Sussex :— 1 Half- sovereign, 2 Florins, 2 Shilliugs, 1 Sixpence, 3 Penny- pieces, also 5 Penny- pieces and a briar Pipe. Supposed by a man from 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, small mous- tache, slight figure, and of gentlemamy appearance ; dressed in a dark suit, bowler hat, and light boots. Information to the Chief Constable of Lewes, Sussex.— Bow- street. May 13. Charged with burglary, at Tunstall, on 20th ultimo :— a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale dark complexion, dark brown hair, brown moustache, Blender build ; dressed in black coat, hard billycock hat, and clogs j he is believed to be a tramp. Information to Mr. Supt. Hall, Police Office, Tunstall, Stoke- upon- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen on 7th instant, between 9 and 12 p. m., at Broad heath, near Worcester, by means of housebreaking :— a suit of men's Clothes, pepper and salt colour ; a double- breasted black cloth Vest; a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, one un- sown ia front; a white Handkerchief, with red borders; HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Tae dark cream- coloured mare Pony, reported in Police Gazette of 13th instant as stolen from Ceston Clanford, Stafford, since 2hd instant, has been recovered— not stolen.— Boic- st., May 16. Stolen on t. he night of 9tb instant, from a stable at Longdon, near Upton- on- Severn :— a dark brown horse Pony, aged, mane cut short, and stand- up tail, docked, walks a little lame from an injury in the near hip. Supposed by a man, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, whiskers all round face; dressed in low black hat, light suit of grey clothes. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, May 13. Stolen from a field at Pilton, between 9 p. m. on 8th, and 9 a. m. on 9th instant:— a dark bay mare Pony, aged, about 10 hands high, white star on forellead, swelling on each hind fetlock, slit in one ear. When last seen in the field its front legs wero clogged, ar. d on the following morning the clogs were found inside the gate, which was left open. Absconded about 28th ultimo, charged on warrants with stealing Sheep from a field at the Dragon Hotel, Montgomery ( in company with Thomas Hughes, who is committed to take his trial at next Quarter Sessions for Montgomeryshire):— SAMUEL WILLIAMS, late of Tyng Wayn, Llanbadarn- fynydd, Radnorshire, about 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 ins. high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, dark eyes, small whiskers, long narrow face, slender build, rather sickly appearance. And EDWARD WILLIAMS, his son, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, large black eyes, little or no whisKers, long narrow face. Information to P. C. Roberts, Montgomery, rr at the Chief Constable's Office, Police Station, Newtown, Montgomery- shire, who holds the warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, May 11. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Remanded to H. M. Prison, at Shrewsbury, until 23rd instant, charged with larceny at Wellington, on 11th instant : — JOSEPH THOMSON, native of Wednesbury, Stafford- shire, 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair oomplexion, blue eyes, light hair and whiskers, tattoo marks on left hand ; enlisted at Wednesbury on 4th June last into the 64th Reg. of Foot, 20th Brigade, and was discharged at Cork on 30th ultimo for bad' conduct; he had in his possession a black Russia cork jacket, nearly new, supposed stolen. States that he has a sister, the wife of William Fryer, No. 3, Arton- road, Birmingham. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Ivins, Wel- lington, Salop.— Bow- street, May 16. Charged on a warrant, at Birmingham, with stealing a gold Watch and Chain on 11th instant :— LIONEL KEMP, alias BARNETT, alias JACOBS, of Cardiff or Merthyr Tydvil, an English Jew, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, well built, black hair and moustache, small side whiskers, dark eyes, fresh complexion, speaks with a Jewish thickness of accent; has recently returned from South Africa, is fond of fast company and the society of prostitutes, and calls himself a merchant. Information to Mr. Supt. Robinson, Detective Office, Birmingham.— Bow- street, May 16. Stolen from a dwelling house, on 12t. h instant:— about £ 23 10s. in Gold and Silver; 2 gold Brooches, one small set with white pearls, the other large set with red stones ; a gold Keeper and 2 gold dress Rings, one has t. bout eight red stones in the centre, the other set with white stones ; a large ivory Cross, about 1 or 5 inches long ; a Post Office Savings Bank Book, inside of wiich was a receipt for a gas account, paid at Heckmondwike ; 3 Purses and a washleather Bag, in one of the purses was a receipt for £ 100 on a Sunderland Bank, and in another a receipt for £ 20. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender build, fair complexion, brown hair, no whiskers or beard, moustache, right leg bent outwards ; dressed in dark tweed coat and vest, light coloured trousers, hard felt hut; a shoemaker. States he has lately returned from America. He associates with betting men aud professional runners, and has worked in a mill as a wool- sorter. Information to Chief Constable Clarkson, Wakefield, Yorkshire.— Bow- st., May 16. Charged with theft of £ 40 at Glasgow :— ADAM CHAS. DUNN, a cashier, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, long thin face, heavy brown moustache, 2 POLICE GAZETTE. May 16 bald on front of head, slender make, walks very erect, very hollow at back of neck, and has a slight burr when speaking ; dressed in a black corded coat and vest, brown mixture tweed trousers, and round felt hat, which he wears on side of head ; resided at 8, Cobden- place, Paisley- road, Glasgow. Informa- tion to Chief Constable McCall, Central Police Chambers, Glasgow.— Bow- street, May 16. Stolen on 29th ultimo, from Theakstone Grange : — a large Brass Copper ( recovered). By a tramping farm labourer, who had been employed on the farm for several months, from 50 to 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, very red face, flat nose, several cuts of old standing on face, blind of one eye, supposed right, looks very peculiar, dark hair turning grey, bald on top of head, whiskers round face tnrn- ing grey, very bad walker, addicted to drink, frequents com- mon lodging- houses, sometimes gathers rags and bones, at other times works for farmers and sleeps in the out- buildings, and states he belongs to the North; dressed in a dark coat, grey cloth coat underneath, dark cord trousers, soft billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Hutchinson, N. R, Constabulary Office, Bedale.— Bow- it., May 16. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Farnworth, sometime between 11 p. m. and 4£ a. m. on 10th instant:— a man's red, white and blue sateen Shirt; a pair of woollen Stockings ; and about 3s. in Cash. By a man about 37 years of age, 5 ft. 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dirty old dark clothing, and lace- up boots. Stated that he came from Glossop, and that he had got work at Crompton's Paper Works, which latter statement is false. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, County Police Office; Bolton.— Bow- street, May 13. Remanded at the Police Court, Winslow, Bucks, until 18th instant, charged with larceny : — GEORGE DAVIS, ( address— Staines, Middlesex), labourer, 5 feet 4J inches high, dark complexion, brown hair and whiskers, grey eyes, medium build, and has two D's on left side. States that he served in the 23rd Welsh Fusiliers ; dressed in long dark cloth coat, pockets at sides, grey cloth vest, cord trousers, lace- up boots, and drab soft hat. Hawkes shirt buttons and paper. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Hall, Fenny Stratford, or to Sergeant Bonden, Police Court, Winslow, Bucks— Bow- street, May 13. Stolen on 2nd instant, about 4.15 p. m., from a sheepfold at Winderwath, near Temple Sowerby :— about 30 lb. of Wool ( recovered). By the two men described who were driving in a dark- coloured long spring cart, such as is used by potters and drawn by a dark pony, which had both forelegs bandaged :— RICHARD MASON, a potter, of Broadguard, Carlisle, but lately residing in Foster- street, Penrith, 36 years of age, 6 ft. 9 ins. high, fair ocmplexion, lightish hair and eyelashes, lightish whiskers on cheeks and chin, no moustache; generally dressed in old cap with peak, and old dark clothe". He has two boys with him, 7 and 9 years of age, one boy has light curly hair, and the other has a small nose. Has two brothers well known at Annan, Longton, Carlisle, Wigton, Brampton, and other places in Cumberland. JAMES ALLAN, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, a rag gatherer and native of Penrith, but lately residing at Wigton, light hair, no whiskers, beard or moustache, stammers a little when speaking, and proportionate figure ; dressed in an old lightish check shooting coat, lightish trousers* torn at bottom, and cap. Belongs to the Cumberland Militia. Information to Mr. Supt. Spencer, Appleby, Westmorland, or to the County Chief Constable, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- st., May 13. Absconded from Weymouth on 10th instant, charged with stealing £ b in Silver :— GEORGE WILLIAMS, 23 yrs. of age, 5 feet 9i inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, slight build, small whiskers and moustache, burn mark across right knee, and slight impediment in speech ; by trade a painter, and corporal in the Dorset Militia, from which he is a deserter ; dressed in the uniform of the regi- ment, with side arms ; has formerly served in the 75th Regt. His father lives at Bristol, and is a pensioner from the army. He left Weymouth by the 3 p. m. train on 10t, h iust. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Vickery, Police Office, Weymouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 13. Remanded until 20th instant, at Stoke- on- Trent, charged with stealing a silver Watch from his lodgings on 23rd Oct. last:— CLARENCE BRIGHT BROUGH, clerk, 22 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, small whiskers and moustache, blue eyes, slender build, and native of Stafford, last place of abode 7, St. Ann's- street, Islington, Liverpool; dressed in cotton cord trousers, block front elastic- side boots, short black jacket, coloured cotton shirt, and grey cloth cap, with peak ; had in his possession when arrested on 9th instant, a new dark grey tweed jacket ( which is too small for him), pockets on hips, pocket inside right and left breast, three black il one buttons down front, two behind, one on each cuff, and one on each pocket to button it up, lined with black Italian cloth, buff- coloured sleeve lining with narrow blue stripe. Information to Mr. Supt. Bowen, Police Station, Stoke- on- Trent.— Bow- st., May 13. Stolen during the night of 5th instant, from a stable at Scrayingham :— a double- breasted blue cleth Top- coat, with velvet collar, dark cloth buttons, two on right side, one on left, the other missing, two pockets on laps, left one torn in two places, pocket in left breast, and button sewn through it, lined in back with pepper- and- salt colour, and sleeves with brown. Supposed by a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair, turning grey, also whiskers on chin end, stout figure, third fingerjou right hand cut off at first joint; dressed in fustian suit, raddy hat or cap, and was wearing an old boot and a clog. Information to Mr. Supt. Wood, Police Station, Pocklington, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 13. Stolen at Weymouth, on the morning of 7th instant:— a pair of light plaid cloth Trousers and Vest, to suit a boy of about 16 years of age, rather stout, the trousers lined with unbleached calico, the vest lined with slate- coloured lining. By a man. about, 30 years of age, 5 feet 94 inches high, slight built, fair complexion, slight moustache and whiskers, light hair and whiskers, has a slight cast in eyes ; dressed in a dark grey coat and trousers, dark vest, black and white scarf, black bowler hat; by trade a tramping painter. Information to Mr. Supt. Vickery, Guildhall, Weymouth.— Boia- st., May 11. Stolen at Kidderminster, an 7th instant:— a gold and diamond Bracelet, ruby eyes, snake pattern, value .£ 30; a lady's Ring, set with rubies ; a ditto, set with amethyst; a ditto, set with white stones ; a ditto, set with pearls and small green stone in centre ; a Keeper, with heart in centre ; and a wedding Ring. By a man who took apartments in the house, and asked to be allowed to wash himself, stating he would return in an hour :— he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7J inches high, small light whiskers, pale complexion, long visage, roman nose, shows his teeth when laughing ; dressed in mixture suit, and light overcoat. Information to Mr. Supt. Haigh, Town Hall, Kidderminster.— Bow- st., May 11. Stolen from a lady's hand- bag, at Stratford Station, on the Great Eastern Railway, on 7th instant:— a Purse, con- taining a Half sovereign and about 15s. in Silver, also some Bronze Money; a gold Ring, with opal; a small gold Brooch, ' set with coral; a pair of common Tweezers ; a gold Tooth- pick ; a single and a half single second class Ticket, Stratford to Liverpool- street. Supposed to have been committed by a man about 24 years of age, short stature, dark hair and whiskers, beard shaved off, slight dark moustache ; dressed in a dark cutaway coat, grey mixture trousers, and round hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Hedington, Great Eastern Railway, Liverpool- stieet, E. C.— Bow- street, May 11.
