Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the pereon requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the 05enee charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, » above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by fee persons forwarding thtm. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Whereas, on the night of 3rd instant, some person or persons endeavoured to blow up the Magazine of the 4th Staffordshire Rifle Volunteers, near Park Hall, Sedgley, and close to Wolverhampton, a reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person, other than a police officer, who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the perpetrator or perpetrators of the outrage ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the outrage, who shall give evidence ns shall lead to a like result. Supposed by a tramp, 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in a black billy cock, blue jacket, and cord trousers. Information to Mr. Supt. Supposed by a man from 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, small mous- tache, slight figure, and of gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in a dark suit, bowler hat, and light boots. Charged with burglary, at Tunstall, on 20th ultimo :- man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale dark complexion, dark brown hair, brown moustache, slender build ; Iressed in black coat, hard billycock hat, and clogs ; he is believed to be a tramp. Stolen on 7th instant, between 9 aud 12 p. m., at Broad- heath, near Worcester, by means of housebreaking :— a suit of men's Clothes, pepper and salt colour ; a double- breasted black cloth Vest; a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, one un- sewn in front ; a white Handkerchief, with red borders 2 red do. with while spots, one larger spots than the other. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair, slight dark moustache, tuft of hair on chin; dressed in long dark overcoat with red coloured lining, which is torn and shows below the coat ou the left side, cord trousers, and soft billy hat, all of which appeared shabby ; had the appearance of a tramp. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. 9th instant, at" Height End Farm, Lower Booths :— a wooden Saveall, about 8 in. long, by 3 in. wide, containing about Is. 4d. in Copper Money. Stolen by means of breaking into an office at Evesham, on 4th instaut.:— a £ 5 packet of Silver, and other Monies ; 6s. worth of Postage Stamps, Is. worth of Receipt Stamps, aud a very small patent Key, with a steel Chain attached. Stolen by means of burglary, at Witchicgliam Rectory, during the night of 4th instant:— a large silver Snuff- box ; a rosewood Tea- caddy; aud 8s. worth of Postage Stamps. Supposed by a tramp, 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 ins. high, dark moustache, no beard ; dressed in dark pilot coat, dark trousers, and dark hard chummy hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen at Ceston Clanford, near Stafford, since 2nd inst. : — a dark cream- coloured mare Pony, aged, in poor condition, 13 hands high, broken knees, lame on near forefoot, caused by ring- bone, and is shod all round except the lame foot. Stolen oh the night of 9th instant, from a stable at Longdon, near Upton- on- Severn :— a dark brown horse Pony, aged, mane cut short, and stand- up tail, docked, walks a littla lame from an injury in the near hip. Supposed by a man, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, whiskers all round face; dressed in low black hat, light suit o{ grey clothes. Infor mation to Mr. Supt. Stolen from a field at Pilton, between 9 p. m. on 8th, and 9 a. m. on 9th instant:— a dark bay mare Pony, aged, about 10 hands high, white star on forehead, swelling on each hind fetlock, slit in one ear. When last seen in the field its front legs were clogged, ai d on the following morning the clogs were found inside the gate, which was left open. Stolen on or about Ist instant, from folds, either at Wantage or Stanford, Berks :— a half- bred Teg, in good con- dition, with a blue mark on the poll. Information to Mr. Supt. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen from a dwelling- house at Farnworth, sometime between 11 p. m. and 4J a. m. on 10th instant:— a man's red, white and blue sateen Shirt; a pair of woollen Stockings ; and about 3s. in Cash. By a man about 37 years of age, 5 ft. 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dirty old dark clothing, and lace- up boots. Stated that he came from Glossop, and that he had got work at Crompton's Papir Works, which latter statement is false. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, County Police Office, Bolton.— Bow- street, May 13. Remanded at the Police Court, Winslow, Bucks, until 18th instant, charged with larceny : — GEORGE DAVIS, ( address— Staines, Middlesex), labourer, 5 feet 4$ inches high, dark complexion, brown hair and whiskers, grey eyes, medium build, and has two D's on left side. States that he served in the 23rd Welsh Fusiliers ; dressed in long dark cloth coat, pockets at sides, grey cloth vest, cord trousers, lace- up boots, and drab soft bat. Hawkes shirt buttons and paper. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Hall, Fenny Stratford, or to Sergeant Bowden, Police Court, Winslow, Bucks.— Bow- street, May 13 Stolen on 2nd instant, about 4.15 p. m., from a sheepfold at Winderwath, near Temple Sowerby :— about 30 lb. of Wool ( recovered). By the two men described who were driving in a dark- coloured long spring cart, such as is used by potters and drawn by a dark pony, which had both forelegs bandaged :— RICHARD MASON, a potter, of Broadguard, Carlisle, but lately residing in Foster- street, Penrith, 36 years of age, 5 ft. 9 ins. high, fair ocmplexion, lightish hair and eyelashes, lightish whiskers on cheeks and chin, no moustache ; generally dressed in old cap with peak, and old dark clothe". He has two boys with him, 7 aud 9 years of age, one boy has light curly hair, and the other has a small nose. Has two brothers well kuown at Annan, Longton, Carlisle, Wigton, Brampton, and other places in Cumberland. JAMES ALLAN, 22 ye. rs of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, a rag gatherer and native of Penrith, but lately residing at Wigton, light hair, no whiskeis, beard or moustache, stammers a little when speaking, and proportionate figure ; dressed in an old lightish check shooting coat, lightish trousers, torn at bottom, and cap. Belongs to the Cumberland Militia. Information to Mr. Supt. Spencer, Appleby, Westmorland, or to the County Chief Constable, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- st., May 13. Absconded from Weymouth on 10th instant, charged with stealing £ 5 in Silver :— GEORGE WILLIAMS, 23 yrs. of age, 5 feet 9i inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, slight build, small whiskers aud moustache, burn aiark across right knee, and slight impediment in speech ; by trade a painter, and corpor. il in the Dorset Militia, from which he is a deserter ; dressed in the uniform of the regi- ment, with side arms ; has formerly served in the 75th Regt. Remanded until 20th instant, at Stoke- on- Trent, charged with stealing a silver Watch from his lodgings on 23rd Oct. last:— CLARENCE BRIGHT BROUGH, clerk, 22 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, small whiskers and moustache, blue eyes, slender build, and native of Stafford, last place of abode 7, St. Ann's- street, Islington, Liverpool; dressed in cotton cord trousers, block front elastic- side boots, short black jacket, coloured cotton shirt, aud grey cloth cap, with peak ; had in his possession when arrested on 9 th instant, a i> ew dark grey tweed jacket ( which is too small for him), pockets on liips, pocket inside right and left breast, three black ail: one buttons down front, two behind, one on each cuff, and one on each pocket to button it up, lined with black Italian cloth, buff- coloured sleeve lining with narrow blue stripe. Stolen during the night of 5th instant, from a stable at Scrayingham :— a double- breasted blue cloth Top- coat, with velvet collar, dark cloth buttons, two on right side, one on left, the other missing, two pockets on laps, left one torn in two places, pocket in left breast, and button sewn through it,, lined in back with pepper- and- salt colour, and sleeves with brown. Supposed by a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair, turning grey, also whiskers on chill end, stout figure, third finger| on right hand cut oil at first joint; dressed in fustian suit, raddy hat or cap, and was wearing an old boot and a clog. Stolen at Weymouth, on the morning of 7th instant:— a pair of light plaid cloth Trousers and Vest, to suit a boy of about 16 years of age, rather stout, the trousers lined with unbleached calico, the vest lined with slate- coloured lining. By a man, about. 30 years of age, 5 feet 94 inches high, slight built, fair complexion, blight moustache and whiskers, light hair and whiskers, has a slight cast in eyes ; dressed in a dark grey coat arid trousers, dark vest, black and white scarf, black bowler hat; by trade a tramping painter. Information to Mr. Supt. Vickery, Guildhall, Weymouth.-- Bow- st., May 11. Stolen at Kidderminster, an 7th instant:— a gold and diamond Bracelet, ruby eyes, snake pattern, value .£ 30; a lady's Ring, set with rubies ; a ditto, set with amethyst ; a ditto, set with white stones ; a ditto, set with pearls and small green stone in centre ; a Keeper, with heart in centre ; and a wedding Ring. By a man who took apartments in the house, and asked to be allowed to wash himself, stating he would return in an hour :— he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7$ inches high, small light whiskers, pale complexion, long visage, roman nose, shows his teeth when laughing ; dressed in mixture suit, and light overcoat. Information to Mr. Supt. Haigh, Town Hall, Kidderminster.— Bow- st., May 11. Stolen from a lady's hand- bag, at Stratford Station, on the Great Eastern Railway, on 7th instant:— a Purse, con- taining a Half- sovereign and about 15s. in Silver, also some Bronze Money; a gold Ring, with opul ; a small gold Brooch, set with coral; a pair of common Tweezers ; a gold Tooth- pick ; a single aud a half single second class Ticket, Stratford to Liverpool- street. Supposed to have been committed by a man about 24 years of age, short stature, dark hair and whiskers, beard shaved off, slight dark moustache ; dressed in a dark cutaway coat, grey mixture trousers, and rouud hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Hedington, Great Eastern Railway, Liverpool- street, E. C.- Bow- street, May 11. Stolen from the Farm- steading of Cadgillhead, Half- Morton, Dumfries, on 2nd instant:— a dark grey double- breasted Jacket, with flaps in outside of skirts, ticket pocket in front, brown composition buttons, flaps on pockets, lined with grey winsey ; a light grey tweed double- breasted Vest, three pockets, and ten black buttons outside of breast; a pair of light grey tweed Trousers, with fly front and white bone buttons ; a double- peaked Cap of greenish colour, with yellow spots ; a red and black striped silk Neckerchief ; a red and green striped French Merino Muffler; a pair of blue woollen Socks, with white at heads and toes ; a pair of elastic- sided Boots, have been soled, two rows of nails on one side of sole, and o.-. e on the other. Stolen on the night of 8th instant, from a carpenter's shop at Edlesborough, Bucks : — a Plough, 1- foot Square ( with spirit level in it), a 6'- iuch ditto, a Rabbet Plane, a side Filister, a Brace aud six Bits, a Spirit Level, a Screwdriver ( about 2 feet long, with box handle), a pair of Pincers, two or three Chisels, all marked ' W. Bates' or ' W. B.,' and a carpenter's Tool Basket. By a tamping Carpenter, about 50 years of age, about 6 feet 7 inches high, very dark com- plexion, grey hair aud whiskers; dressed in dark coat, c > rd trousers, old hard felt hat, and red handkerchief round neck. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Denson, Aylesbury, or to Inspector Sutton, Bucks Constabulary, Linslade, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- street, May li. Absconded from Cirencester, on 6th instant, charged with stealing a carpenter's Plough and a Square, since recovered pawned; also from a building, two lathe Hammers, one marked ' A. G.' the other ' E. M.' ; a pointer Trowel ; aud a Awla tramping plasterer, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark hair, littie dark whiskers, thin built, speaks through his nose, and walks in a stooping position ; dressed in a bowler hat, brown jacket, yellow thread cord trousers, aud old boots, broke across the instep. Charged with ravishing a girl eight years old, at 6 p: m. on 7th instant, in Cilcen, Flintshire :— a tramp, about 35 yrs. of age, from 5 feet 6 to 8 inches high, sandy whiskers and moustache, and red face ; dressed in a brown coat, another coat underneath, cord trousers, and billycock hat. Informa- tion to Deputy Chief Constable Adams or Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- street, May 9. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Remanded till 16th instant, charged with obtaining Money under false pretences, at Hay : — WILLIAM MILLER, alias MARTIN MIJ. LER, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, parted in centre, bald on crown of head, no whiskers, light brown moustache, blue eyes, large mouth, thick lips, and good teeth ; dressed in a grey mixture cloth jacket, striped cloth waistcoat, dark cloth trousers, grey stitched hat, woollen scarf, old elastic- side boots, shabby appearance ; he is a German, but speaks good English, tattooed two flags, ty- acelet, and anchor on right hand, and two flags, spear, and anchor on the left; states he is a sailor. Represents that he is an insurance agent going to remain a couple of years in the same place, obtains board and lodgings at private houses, and Money by stating he has no change, only a cheque which he is unable to cash until the bank opened, and he wanted to telegraph the first thiDg in the morning, so as to have his boxes, & c., sent him by an early train. After obtaining the Mouey he decamps. Supervisee JANET SPARROW, alias SARAH JANE SARROW, JANE JONES, or JANE FARRELL, a machinist, about 31 years of age, 5 feet high, proportionate build, dark brown hair, dark grey eyes, pale complexion, long features, small seal on right of chin, seal on second finger of right hand and one on left side of forehead, scar on left wrist, spine injured, is single and a native of New York ; she wss convicted at Chester Assizes on 10th December, 1873, of bur- clary, after a previous conviction of felony, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude, and 7 years police supervision. She was released from Russell House Refuge on 25th Sept. 1878. Supervisee JANE DAVENPORT, 28 years of age, 4 ft. 9 inches high, proportionate build, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, oval features, small scar on forehead and one on upper lip, is married, and a native of Woolton.
