Notice.— It ii requested that all communications for tho purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that « n information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor ouost be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ot Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded oil War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The Amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will bo paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tiie persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of tho property, without ihe apprehension of the offender. Information to the Superintendent, Police Office, Burton- on- Trent.— Bow- street, May 8. Stolen from the person at East Grinstead, on 4thinstant: — a brown leather Purse, containing lis. 6d. By a tramp about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark hair, small dark whiskers at sides, shaved at chiu, stout figure, very broad shoulders ; dressed in dark suit, black billycock hat, and old lace- up boots. Stolen at Haslingden on 8th instant ( during the absence of the family) :— £ 9 in Gold, consisting of 6 Sovereigns and 6 Half- Sovereigns, also a silver English lever Watch, No. 5995, silver dial, which is cracked, has a second finger, had attached a gold albert Guard, small link pattern, with an appendage, a compass on one side and a green stone on the other. Entrance effected by taking out a portion of a window at the back of the house. Information to Mr. Sunt. Henderson, Police Office, Bacup, Lancashire.— Bow street, May 12. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Harborne, on 10th instant: £ 10 in Gold ; £ 1 14s. 8d. in Silver and Copper; a Property Tax Receipt for £ 2 5s. 6d. signed ' Thomas Priest' and an old dirty red Bag, in which they were contained. Information to Mr. Supt. Whitehurst, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, or to Sergeant Kavanagh, Harborne, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, May 12. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Tonbridge, on 3rd instant:— a brown Overcoat, with velvet collar ; a black diagonal cloth Jacket, pockets at hipa, and one outside left breast; an ivory Pencil- case, inlaid with tortoise; and a very old gold Ring. Also by means of housebreaking at Speldhurst, Kent, on 7th instant:— a £ 10 Bavk of England Note ; a set of gold Studs and Links ; and an open- face silver lever Watch, No. 2603. Information to Mr. Supt. A. Barnes, Police Court, Tonbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen by means of burglary, from the Post Office, Kelvedon Common, Brentwood, Essex, during the night of 3rd instant:—£ 21 in Gold; £ 6 10s. in Silver; 6s. Od. in Copper ; Stamps of various descriptions to the amount of £ 13 7s. Id. ; two Deposit Books on Brentwood Office, for £ 1; two Deposit Books on Kelvedon Office, one for £ 1 Is., the other for 2s. 6d.; a Deposit Book on Chelmsford Office, amount not known. The entrance was affected by cutting a pane of glass and unfastening the office window, and immediately under the window was the foot prints apparently of a saddle horse. Information to Mr. Supt. J. Lennon, Constabulary Office, Epping, Essex.— Bow- slreet, May 8. During the night of 4th instant, the Church of St. Saviour, Saltley, was broken into, and an eight day Clock, in mahogany case, white enamel dial maker ' Hawkes, Bir- mingham' on dial, stolen therefrom. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 6th instant:— a gold Albert Chain, with Lion Shilling attached ; six silver Tea Spoons, marked ' T. C. W.' on the back ; six silver Prongs ; a light tweed Jacket, pockets on hips, and left breast pocket; a brown cloth Overcoat, ribbed pattern, pockets on hips and left breast pocket; and a small electro- plated Flower Stand. Information to Mr. Supt. Yardley, Aston, near Birmingham. — Bow- stree', May 8. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Pantmawr, Llangurig Montgomeryshire, on tho night of 4th instant:— 5 pounds of packet Tea ; a quantity of ' Edward and Ringer' Tobacco, in 2 oz. packets; a few cans of Sardines and corned Beef; aud a quantity of arrowroot Biscuits, and ginger bread Nuts ; a few tins of Coffee; a few pounds of Bacon ; a large Knife, with white handle; and 4 to 5 shillings in Copper and Silver. By a man about 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inch » s high, dark sandy whiskers, and moustache, of about a fortnight's growth ; dressed in a dark overcoat, and brown monkey coat underneath, cotton cord trousers, and a strap round the waist, and a cap, had no sloes on, blue cut marks on his face, a blue cut under the right eye, is pockpitted. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Snodland, between 10p. m., 22nd, and 8 a. m, on 23rd ult. :— 3 calico Sheets and 1 twill ditto ( recovered); 1 old white Shirt, marked 1 E. M.' in ink ; 1 blue check Shirt, 1 woman's Nightdress, 2 white Bodices ; 2 pairs of woman's white cotton Stockings, marked OH top with red cotton; 3 chemises, 3 pairs woman's Drawers, and one old white Bag. Supposed by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, ginger whiskers and moustache, right eye rather fuller than the left; dressed in cord trousers, patch on one kuee, drab slop jacket, blue shirt with white stripes, and hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Hulse, Police Station, W. Mailing, Kent.— Bow- st., May 5. Stolen by moans of Warehouse breaking, between 29th ultimo and 1st instant :— a piece of black Satin, 84 yards long and 22 inches wide ; a piece of black flowered Silk, 69J yards long, 21J inches wide; and a piece of black flowered Silk, 721 yards long, and 211 inches wide. Information to Chief Inspector Nortcliff, Detective Department, Leeds.— B w- slreet, May 5. During the night of 1st instant, the church of St. Mary's, Selby Oak, Northfield, was feloniously broken and entered, and stolen therein :— a pair ( gilt) flower Vases ; a black stuff Cassock, been repaired near bottom ; an Oxford M. A. Hood ; an 8- day spring Clock, in plain oak ciicular rim cass, white dial plate ' H. Palmer,' written thereon. Information to Mr. Supt. Tyler, Police Office, King's Heath.— Bow- street, May 5. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Supposed stolen from Barnham Common, Suffolk, about 18th ultimo :— a chestnut Gelding, 13 hands high, lame on off hind foot, which is diseased ; also a bay Gelding, 13 hands 2 inches high, very stiff on legs. Both are very old, and in low condition. Information to Inspector Culley, Police Station, Thetford.— Bow- street, May 8. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen during the night of 7lb instant, from a stable at Agdeu :— a man's slop Jacket, with metal buttons, nearly new, and a round harness face Brass with lion in centre. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, and whiskers, stout build; supposed to be wearing stolen jacket, as he left an old one behind, cord trousers, recently washed, aud soft felt hat with high crown. Stated that he was a laboure-, and came from Frodsbam, Cheshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Plant, County Consta- bulary, Broxton, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 12. Description of SETH BAKER alias FREDERICK PERCIVAL, charged on warrant with stealing at New Clee on 10th instant, £ i in Gold, aud £ 1 in Silver :— he is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, no whiskers, slight dark moustache, dark bold eyes, very much pitted from chicken pock ; dressed in a tight grey dress coat, black cloth trousers, black hard felt hat, elastic side boots, coloured front and collar, scarlet necktie, states he is a tailor, and came here from Leicester on 29th ult., he is fond of drink and low company, he has pawned a suit of brown cloth clothes here. He also stated that his mother, named Briggs, resides at Stone in Staffordshire, he talks about having an income of £ 108 per year. Information to Mr, Supt. Geo. Jarvis, County Police Station, Great Grimsby.— Bow- street, May 12. Charged on warrant with stealing at Stamford, on Uth instant: a silver lever Watch, with a piece of steel chain attached; a grey mixture cloth Coat, with pockets on hips, and four buttons down the front; a Vest of same material ; a pair of brown tweed Trousers, all man's size:— WALTER ROBINSON, private 3rd Company Royal Marine Artillery, 18 yrs. of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 ins. high, dark brown hair, and large mole on left side of neck. Information to Mr. Supt. Ward, Stamford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, May 12. Wanted for stealing on 4th icstant, from the house of one David BateS, Trinity Road, West Bromwich, a brown woollen Shawl; a woman's fawn- coloured Dress, trimmed with dark brown ve!, t, and a black Feather for al" dy'shat - — a woman, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, stoutish build, fresh complexion, brown hair, of good address, stated she was an attendant at Burntwood Asylum ( at which institution Bate's wife is an inmate), and that she was desired by the surgeon to call on Bates to describe the condition of his wife. A woman answering the same description has committed similar robberies at Dudley, Wolverhampton, & c. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Whitehurst, West Bromwich.— Bow- street, May 12. Wanted for stealing Alms- box aud conients, from King's Norton Parish Church, on 27th ultimo :— a man, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, slender build, dirty appearance, wearing a ring, with red stone, on one of fingers of right hand ; dressed in dark or black jacket, [ fustian trousers, fustian sleeved vest, black soft billy hat; carries a frail basket, such as used bv labourers. Information to Mr. Supt. Tyler, Police Office, King's Heath, Worcestershire. — Bow- street, May 10. Description of EDWD. WARDLES and ELIZABETH SMITH alias PORTER, wanted on warrant charged with stealing £ 24; and a pair of black kid Gloves, three stripes on back, at Burslem, on 8th inst. :— He is a potter, 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dai k cornnlexion, dark brown hair, dark moustache and eyes, medium build, native of Burslem, aud single ; dressed in hard black felt hat, old blue pilot overcoat, brown striped jacket, black cloth vest, woollen cord trousers, and lace- up boot3. She is a potter, 25 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, grey eyes, slender build, seal mark under one eye, a native of Burslem, and married ; dressed in black straw hat, trimmed black satin, three pink roses and three black feathers, hwg black cloth jacket, trimmed black fur, stone coloured stuff dress, and new elastic- side boots. Inft rmation to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- slreet, May 10. Stolen at Haslingden. between 8 a. m. aud 8 p. m 3id instant:— a carter's moleskin'Jacket, one pocket inside left breast, and two outside with flaps, bright bone or horn buttons, white flannel lining, and has a long greasy mark in the middle, aud the collar is a little twisted. By" a general labourer, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, prde complexion, light hair, a native of Haslingden. Was wearing the stolen Coat about 8 p. m. in Haslingden; he was traced to Accrington Railway Station, where he left the train. In- formation to the County Police Office, Bacup.— Bow- s'. reet, May 8. Stolen at Stone, about 7.30 a m. on 5th instant :— a red and black plaid woollen Shawl, and a portion of an old cotton Shirt. By a man and woman who lodged in the hou3e on the night of 4th instant, and were traced in the direction of the potteries. The man is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, medium build, aud dressed in a brown tweed suit, and hard felt hat; the woman is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, medium build, very hoarse voice, wears her hair low and smooth on forehead ; dressed in black princess robe, black jacket, and black hat, turned up at side. Information to Mr. Supt. Harston, Police Office, Stone, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 8. Stolen daring the night of 29th ultimo, from the harness i 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. May 12 room at Knightwick Rectory :— a dark blue almost black livery Overcoat, with black cloth buttons ; a black cloth Vest,- with sleeves; a pair of light grey tweed Trousers, much worn; a Burnisher; and a small clothes Brush. By a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, rather Btout build, chubby face, light brown hair, little or no whiskers ; was dressed in light brown cloth or mixture coat, brown cloth vest, black and white plaid trousers, elastic- side boots, and soft grey tweed hat. Information to Mr. George Checketts, Deputy Chief Constable, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow street, May 8. Absconded on 17th ultimo, from Peterborough, charged on a warrant with embezzling .£ 2,300, the moneys of the Cor- poration of Peterborough :- CHARLES WILLIAM RIN- TOUL, late rate- collector, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, black hair and eyes, dark completion, inclined to sallow, had when he left a black moustache and beard, rather slenderly built, but square, walks' with a springy step, and looks on this ground when walking. Is about 10 stone in weight, dresses well, had with him a light- coloured suit, and is a great smoker. Whosoever shall apprehend or give such information aa shall lead to the apprehension of the said Charles William Rintoul shall be paid £ 100 reward ; but if the reward be claimed by more than one person, the Corpora- tion reserve the light of deciding to whom and in what pro- portion such reward shall be paid. Information to James Hurst, Head Constable, Police Station, Peterborough, who holds the warrant for his apprehension,—• Bow- street, May 8. Stolen cn the night of 2nd instant, off an hedge at Llaubrynma. il-:— a pair of woollen cord Trousers, patched on both knees; a, pair of cotton Trousers, pieced at bottom of both legs ; a grey stiiped flannel Shirt; a calico do ; a Table Cloth ; a Towel; a pair grey woollen Stockings, white tops, marked ' I'; a white pocket Handkerchief. By a tramping Welshman, about 30 years of age, stout build, sandy moustache, came from South Wales, a native of between Capelcerig and Beddgelert, was traced on the night of 4th instant, to the huts on the Bala railway, near Trawsfyndd. Information to Chief Constable Danily Newtown, or to P. C. Edwards, Llanbrynmair, Montgomeryshire.— Boic- st., May 8. Charged on a warrant with stealing £ 1 in Silver and Copper ; a brown serge Dress; a blue Polonaise; and a black straw Hat :— ALICE SPARKES, 16 years of age, fair complexion, 5 feet high, light brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in black jacket, black dress, and brown velvet hat. JANE PRIOR, 16 years of age, dark complexion, 4 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes ; dressed in brown dress, black hat, trimmed with fur, white feather in front. They have been traced to Clapham Junction. Information to Mr. Supt. Kinshott, Hants Constabulary, Fareham,- Bow- ttreet, May 8. Stolen between 10 p. m. 5th," and 5 a m. Gth instaat, in the Station- road, Itedhill, about £ 30 in Gold, and 2 L. dies diamond Rings, ono sapphire, the other a ruby, flit plain setting:— supposed by a lad about 17 years of age, who was for a short time a Clerk in the above employ, 5 feet high, fair complexion, full face ; dressed in a light tweed suit, a long overcoat, and a hard felt billycock hat, with a smart appear- ance. Information to Geo. Rogers, Supt, Redhill, Surrey.— Bow- street, May 8. . St- Jen about 4 a. m. on 6th instant in Oswestry :— a blue pilot Overcoat, with pockets on hips, velvet collar, black lining, cloth buttons, except ono at the top which is black bo le, lining torn out of sleeves; a nearly new pair of strong nailed woman's lace- up Boots ; a white twill Sheet, and a pair of Spectacles, by a German who had lodged in the house, 43 years of age, 5 feet 10J inches high, slim build, sallow com- plexion, dark hair, blue eyes, which are weak, small face and Lead ; dressed in round hard hat, dark jacket, brownish tweed trousers atld old militia boots, was convicted at County Quarter Sessions at Salop in October last, and sentenced to 6 months hard labour, and 12 months police supervision, for burglary. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, Oswestry — — Bow- street, May 8. Stolen at Criggion, Cemmaes : — a black pilot cloth Top Coat, very small collar, the buttons all lost except one on the top, bound with black braid, two hip pockets and one inside breast with flans, lined dark gray cloth, and not much worn. Supposed by a'min, 35 years cf age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brewn hair, whiskers, and moustache; dressed in very strong navvy boots, fronts cut to ease his feet, good cord trousers, and jimcrow hat; carried a bundle. Went in the direction of South Wales, and was seen going towards Llan- gurig; he speaks Welsh and English, Information to Mr. Danily, Chief Constable, Newtown, or P. C. J. Humphreys, Cemmaes, Montgomeryshire— Bow- street, May 8. London, N. W. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his appre hension.— Bow- street, May 10. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Missing from his home, 46, Cheltenham Street, New Swindon, since 28th ultimo, and it is feared some ill has be- fallen him :— JOHN SWONNIKOFF, an iron turner, in the employ of the Great Western Railway Company, at Swindon, a Russian by birth, 27 years of age, about 5 feet 7 ins. high, black curly hair, first finger on one hand, supposed the left, deformed ; dressed in a black suit of ribbed cloth, black and white check shirt, white front and collar, black necktie, elastic sid « s boots ; is suffering from melancholia, and has recently been studying phrenology. Information to Mr. Supt. North, Swindon, Wilts Bow- street, May 12. Missing since 26th ultimo :- SAMUEL WOTTON, of No. 91, Queen- street, Newton Abbot, Devonshire, agsht for agricultural implements, etc., 51 years of age, about 5 feet C or, 7 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown lvair, sandy colour beard, whiskers and moustache, has 7 false feet, one of which is in front of upper jaw ; dressed in a dark grey suit, brown overcoat, with the lining quilted and velvet collar. It is feared some ill has befallen him. Information to Mr. Supt. Barbor, P. Division, Devon Constabulary, Torquay, or to Sergeant R. Nicholls, Town Hall, Newton Abbot, Devonshire. — Bow- street, May 12. Remanded till l7lh instant at Longton, charged with larceny on 9th instant:— THOMAS SIDDON, Middlewich, Cheshire, farm labourer, 22 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and moustache, no whiskers or beard, grey eyes, glimes in left, medium build, abscess mark front and left side of neck, native of county Roscommon, Ireland, single ; dressed in black cap with peak and ear laps tied over top, black worsted cloth jacket, plaid vest, cord trousers, and lace- up boots, all old, and a new blue and white plaid scarf. Information to Mr. Supt. McWilliams, Police Station, Longton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 12. Description of SARAH STEWART, committed for trial chargcd with the theft of a Pocket Book and £ 23 from a farmer whom sho pickcd up on the street, and took to a spirit shop :— she is a hawker, a native of Dublin, 4 ft. 11£ ins. high, small face, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, dark brown eyes,' . E.' on left arm, above elbow, 5 cut marks on face, viz., one between eyes, one under left eye, and side of left eye, one tight temple and on forehead near to Lair, two indent marks on left cheek, a mole on centre of right cheek, two spea FELONIES.
