Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor • nast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees aud Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, » . labove, for uwertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements Offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. Stolen on 6th instant, from the person, in the borough of Preston:— a small gold horizontal Swiss Watch, No. 21,369, gold dial, flowered outer case, black hands, no seconds hand. Stolen from the person at the West Kent Hunt Steeple Chases, Sevenoaks, on 3rd instant:— a gold lever Watch, maker Barling, Maidstone, No. 16574, gold curb pattern Albert and Coin attached. Information to Mr. Supt. O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen from the . person at Edenbridge Steeple Chases on 6th instant:— a gold open face Watch, with minute hand and gold face. Also stolen from the person, on the platform of the railway station at Edenbrige, on 6th instant :— a gold Watch, maker J. T. Noakes, Tonbridge, No. 523, with a gold Albert Chain attached. Information to Mr. Supt. Barnes, Police Court, Tonbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, May 9. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Charged with burglary, at Tunstall, on 20th ultimo :— a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale dark complexion, dark brown hair, brown moustache, slender build ; dressed in black coat, hard billycock hat, and clogs ; he is believed to be a tramp. Information to Mr. Supt. Hall, Police Office, Tunstall, Stoke- upon- Trent, Staffordshire. Bow- street, May 11. Stolen on 7th instant, between 9 and 12 p. m., at Broad- heath, near Worcester, by means of housebreaking :— a suit of men's Clothes, pepper and salt colour ; a double- breasted black cloth Vest; a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, one un- sewn in front; a white Handkerchief, with red borders \ 2 red do. with white spots, one larger spots than the other, Supposed by a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion and hair, slight dark moustache, tuft of hair on chin; dressed in long dark overcoat with red coloured lining, which is torn and shows below the coat on the left side, cord trousers, and soft billy hat^ all of which appeared shabby ; had the appearance of a tramp. Informa- tion to Chief Constable Checketts, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. 9th instant, at Height End Farm, Lower Booths a wooden Saveall, about 8 in. long, by 3 in. wide, containing about Is. 4d. in Copper Money. Information at County Police Office, Bacup, Lancashire,— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen by means of breaking into an office at Evesham, on 4th instant:— a £ 5 packet of Silver, and other Monies ; 6s. worth of Postage Stamps, Is. worth of Receipt Stamps, and a very small patent Key, with a steel Chain attached. Information to Sergeant Ganderton, Evesham, Worcester shire.— Bow- street, May 9. Stolen by means of burglary, at Witchingham Rectory, during the night of 4th instant;— a large silver Snuff- box ; a rosewood Tea- caddy; and 8s. worth of Postage Stamps. Supposed by a tramp, 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 ins. high, dark moustache, no beard ; dressed in dark pilot coat, dark trousers, and dark hard chummy hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Chambers, Aylsham, Norfolk.— Bow- st., May 9. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Harpham, on the night of 2nd instant:— about 3s. in Copper, and a quantity of Tobacco, in one ounce and half- ounce packets, papers marked • Parkinson and Son, Driffield.' Supposed by men who are tramping the country as sweeps :— the first, 22 years of age, 5 feet 9i inches high, broad face, ginger whiskers, stout build, white slop, dirty with soot, and lace boots, with round nails in soles. The 2nd, his brother, 23 years of age, small features, rather pockpitted, 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes. And a lad, name unknown, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 51 inches high, fair complexion, short jacket, and a native of Hull or York. Information to Mr. Supt. Harper, Driffield, E. R. C., Yorks.— Bow- st., May 6. Stolen by means of burglary, between 11 p. m. on 1st and 6 a. m. on 2nd instant, at Brandsburton, East Yorkshire :— 6 silver Tea Spoons, a silver Salt Spoon, a pair of Sugar Bows, all marked ' G. S. H.'; and £ 2 10s. in Copper Money. Tramps suspected. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Nay lor E. R. C., Beverley, or to Inspector Kelsey, E. R. C., Leven, East Yorks.— Bow- street, May 6. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 3rd instant, at Holly Waste, Cleobury Mortimer :— 2 lion Shillings, and several 3d. and 4d. Pieces. Information to Mr. Supt. Galliers, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Gough, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Bow- street, May 6. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Godfrey Hole, Wirksworth, on 4th instant:— 3 pairs of new ( not worn) women's No. 6 elastic- side Boots— one pair kid tops with a bit of patent leather up the centre of toes, other tjvo pairs Levant leather tops with patent toe caps ; a piece of new bleached Calico ; a piece of new Hollands ; a Half- Sovereign ; an old small square Brooch without a pin ; 3f yards of black Merino ; li yd. brown ditto ; 2 yds. black bright Cloth ; a red flannel Petticoat; and a pair of brown knitted Stockings. Supposed by tramps. Information to Mr. Supt. Sharpe, Wirksworth, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, May 6. 28th March last:— a bay cart Mare, about 13 hands high, 8 years old, some white spots on near side of back, and has a corn on each side of fore fetlock, ( the mare was purchased about a fortnight previous, of George Thompson, a gipsey, and may have strayed back to her former home). Found at Chilton, near Sudbury, Suffolk, on 28thultimo: — a chestnut mare Pony, 3 years old, 11 hands 3 inches high, long tail, hair chafed off shoulders ; the pony is in the charge of P. C. Jame3 Burch, Cornard, Sudbury, Suffolk. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Chapman, Boxford, or to P. C. Burch, Cornard, Suffolk.— Bow- street, May 4. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Pilton, between 9 p. m. on 8th, and 9 a. m. on 9th instant:— a dark bay mare Pony, aged, about 10 hands high, white star on forehead, swelling on each hind fetlock, slit in one ear. When last seen in the field its front legs were clogged, ar. d on the following morning the clogs were found inside the gate, which was left open. Absconded about 28th ultimo, charged on warrants with stealing Sheep from a field at the Dragon Hotel, Montgomery ( in company with Thomas Hughes, who is committed to take his trial at next Quarter Sessions for Montgomeryshire) :— SAMUEL WILLIAMS, late of Tyng Wayn, Llnnbadarn- fynydd, Radnorshire, about 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 ins. high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, dark eyes, small whiskers, long narrow face, slender build, rather sickly appearance. And EDWARD WILLIAMS, his son, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 of 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, large black eyes, little or no whisKers, long narrow face. Information to P. C. Roberts, Montgomery, cr at the Chief Constable's Office, Police S'ation, Newtown, Montgomery- shire, who holds the warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, May 11. Supposed stolen from a field at Glassfynurd Farm, Cray, Breconshire, between 18th and 19th ultimo : — a cream- coloured mare mountaiu Pony, supposed to be in foal, about 14 years old, unshod, and branded with a heart on left hind hip. Information to Owen Price, Esq., Nantyrharn, [ Cray, or to Sergeant Williams, Devynnock, Breconshire. — Bow- street, May 9. Stolen on or about 1st instant, from folds, either at Wantage or Stanford, Berks :— a half- bred Teg, in good con- dition, with a blue mark on the poll. Information to Mr. Supt. O'Neill, Wantage, Berkshire.— Bow- street, May 9. Absconded on 11th ultimo, from Maidenhead, stealing a Horse, Cart, and Harness, since recovered at Reading •.— JOHN THOMPSON, 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, thin, fair complexion, light brown hair, slight light moustache ; dressed in dark brown sleeve waistcoat, twill sleeves, cord trousers, lace boots, nearly new, black soft felt hat, labourer. Information to Mr. Supt. Taylor, Borough Police, Maidenhead, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 6, Supposed stolen from Mount Pleasant, Lymington, on LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT JOSEPH BRADLEY, advertised in Police Gazette ef 2nd instant, cnarged with embezzlement, has been apprehen- ded and convictcd.— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen at Weymouth, on the morning of 7th instant:— a pair of light plaid cloth Trousers and Vest, to suit a boy of about 16 years of age, rather stout, the trousers lined with unbleached calico, the vest lined with slate- coloured lining. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 94 inches high, slight built, fair complexion, slight moustache and whiskers, light hair and whiskers, has a slight cast in eyes ; dressed in a dark > rey coat and trousers, dark vest, black and white scarf, black bowler hat; by trade a tramping painter. Information to Mr. Supt. Vickery, Guildhall, Weymouth.— Bow- st., May 11. Stolen at Kidderminster, on 7th instant:— a gold and diamond Bracelet, ruby eyes, snake pattern, value £ 30; a lady's Ring, set with rubies ; a ditto, set with amethyst ; a ditto, Set with white stones ; a ditto, set with ptttrla- and small green stonuin centre ; a Keeper, with heart in cefitre ; and a wedding Ring. By a man who took apartments in the house, and asked to be allowed to wash himself, stating he would return in an hour :— he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7£ inches high, small light whiskers, pale complexion, long visage, roman nose, shows his teeth when laughing ; dressed in mixture suit, and light overcoat. Information to Mr. Supt. Haigh, Town Hall, Kidderminster.— Bow- st., May 11. Stolen from a lady's hand- bag, at Stratford Station, cn the Great Eastern Railway, on 7th instant:— a Purse, con- taining a Half- sovereign and about 15s. in Silver, also some Bronze Money; a gold Ring, with opal; a small gold Broocb, set with coral; a pair of common Trousers ; a gold Tooth- pick ; a single and a half single second class Ticket, Stratford to Liverpool- street. Supposed to have been committed by a man about 24 years of age, short stature, dark hair and whiskers, beard shaved off, slight dark moustache ; dressed in a dark cutaway coat, grey mixture trousers, and round hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Hedington, Great Eastern Railway, Liverpool- street, E. C.— Bow- street, May 11. Stolen from the Farm- steading of Cadgillhead, Half- Morton, Dumfries, on 2nd instant:— a dark grey double- breasted Jacket, with flaps in outside of skirts, ticket pocket in front, brown composition buttons, flaps on pockets, lined with grey winsey ; a light grey tweed double- breasted Vest, three pockets, and ten black buttons outside of breast; a pair of light grey tweed Trousers, with fly front and white bone buttons ; a double- peaked Cap of greenish colour, with yellow spots ; a red and black striped silk Neckerchief ; a red and green striped French Merino Muffler; a pair of blue woollen Socks, with white at heads and toes ; a pair of elastic- sided Boots, have been soled, two rows of nails on one side of sole, and oie on the other. By WM. HEARD, native of Gretna, Dumfrieshire, & labourer or farm servant, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, long faced, fresh complexion, brown hair, brown whiskers, apparently of 6 or 7 weeks' growth. Stolen on the night of 8th instant, from a carpenter's shop at Edlesborough, Bucks : — a Plough, 1- foot Square ( with spirit level in it), a 6- inch ditto, a Rabbet Plane, a side Filister, a Brace and six Bits, a Spirit Level, a Screwdriver ( about 2 feet long, with box handle), a pair of Pincers, two or three Chisels, all marked ' W. Bates' or ' W. B.,' and a carpenter's Tool Basket. By a tramping Carpenter, about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, very dark com- plexion, grey hair and whiskers; dressed in dark coat, c > rd trousers, old hard felt hat, and red handkerchief round neck. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Denson, Aylesbury, or to Inspector Sutton, Bucks Constabulary, Linslade, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- street, May 11. Absconded from Cirencester, on 6th instant, charged with stealing a carpenter's Plough and a Square, since recovered pawned; also from a building, two lathe Hammers, one marked ' A. G.' the other ' E. M.'; a pointer Trowel; and a Awl:— a tramping plasterer, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark hair, little dark whiskers, thin built, speaks through his nose, and walks in a stooping position ; dressed in a bowler hat, brown jacket, yellow thread cord trousers, and old boots, broke across the instep. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement •— CHARLES HOUNSELL, lute of 63, Fleet- street, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 incites high, sallow complexion, very dark hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in black diagonal 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. May 11 cloth suit, frock coat, high hat. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, E. G.— Bow- street, May 6. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, 28th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 200 GEORGE DELVES, late Clerk to the Southborough Local Board and the Public Hall Company, also Secretary to Public Hall Company at Cunbridge Wells, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion, long dark whiskers and moustache ; dresses usually in dark clothes and hard round black felt hat. Information to the Head Constable, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. - Bow- street, May 6. Absconded on 2nd instant, charged on warrant with larceny of .£ 16:— JAMES CARR, a journeyman pork butcher, 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh com- plexion, prominent blue eyes, short- cut dark brown curly hair, crooked forefinger of right hand, large blue cut mark aeress right wrist, which causes it to be rather stiff, and slender figure; dressed in a black cloth coat with I lue sl ® p underneath, dark green trousers, dark grey cloth cap with two peaks, and a pair of side spring boots, nearly new, a native of West Hartlepool, and is likely to emigrate. Absconded, charged on warrant with stealing at Shirley- wich, on 27th ultimo :— a pair of man's strong lace- up Boots, newly soled and heeled, and small patch on lace- holes of one; — WILLIAM JACKSON, labourer, 59 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, brown hair, light brown whiskers, medium build, and slightly in- kneed. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Stafford, or to Sergeant Goodwin, Great Haywood, Stafford.— Bow- st., May 4. FELONIES. Charged with ravishing a girl eight years old, at 6 p. m. on 7th instant, in Cilcen, Flintshire :— a tramp, about 35 yrs. of age, from 5 feet 6 to 8 inches high, sandy whiskers and moustache, and red face ; dressed in a brown coat, another coat underneath, cord trousers, and billycock hat. Informa- tion to Deputy Chief Constable Adams or Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- street, May 9. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded, charged on a warrant with an offence against tlis Fraudulent Debtor's Act:— JOSEPH WINDSOR, late of the firm of Masters and Windsors, builders, & c., Stoke- on- Trent, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches bigh, propor- tionate build, fresh complexion, light hair, whiskers, and moustache, and walks erect; is a native of Burslem. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Bowen, Police Office, Stoke- on- Trent, who holds the warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, May 11. Charged with having obtained Board and Lodgings and a Sovereign under false pretences, at Hay, on 4th and 5th instant:— a Man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, [ fresh sunburnt face, brown hair parted in centre, no whiskers, light brown moustache, large eyes wide mouth and good teeth ; dressed in grey speckled cloth jacket, button holes much worn, black cloth trousers and waistcoat, grey stitched hat, elastic- side boots much worn, narrow blacK leather belt or strap round his waist. Represents that he is an insurance agent going to remain a couple of years in the same place, obtaius board and lodgings at private houses, and Money by statiug he has no change, only a cheque which he is unable to cash until the bank opened, and he wanted to telegraph the first thing in the morning, so as to have his boxes, & c., sent him by an early train. After obtaining the Money he decamps. He left two books at his lodgings, viz., ' The Queen's English,' by Alford, written thereon—' Medical Officers Library Station Hospital, Devonport,' 30 1' 80, presented by Richard Jackson, The Buffs, Castle Hill Fort, Dover, January 10, 1872 ; and ' Acton on Prostitution,' ' W. Miller' written inside in lead pencil. Information to Mr. Supt. Evans, Crickhowell, or to Sergeant Davies, Hay, Breconshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 9. Absconded on 21st March last, from Beaumaris, Anglesey, charged on a warrant with obtainging by fraud 2 pieces of perforated Zinc ( since recovsred) : — HUGH ROBERTS, alias CROX, a native of Beaumaris, about 40 or 43 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, dark complexion, dark brown moustache, no whiskers, pimply face, square built, and a plasterer ; dressed in black cloth coat, dark waistcoat, white slop, moleskin trousers, hard felt hat, and generally carrying in his pocket a coloured soft hat. He is of a scampish appearance, and fond of low company. Information to Sergeant J ones, Police Station, Beaumaris, who holds the warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, May 9. Charged on a warrant with obtaining Ten Shillings by false pretences, at Greenhithe, Swanscombe, Kent, on 26th ultimo:— WM. BLACKHALL, 38 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, rather slender build, and full sandy whiskers ; dressed in serge reefer coat, brown tweed trousers and vest, and is a Scotchman. States he belonged to the ship ' Elizabeth' of and from Aberdeen with potatoes. In- forafation to Mr. Supt. Fread, or to Sergeant Jordan, K. C. C,, Police Station, Dartford.— Bow- street, May 6. Charged with obtaining by false pretence, at Lewes, on 21st ultimo : — a quantity of Bread, Butter, and. other articles of Food ANNIE WILSON, 18 years of age, 4 ft. ll£ ins. high, brown hair, stout figure, late of Lewes, domestic servant; dressed in black princess dress, black silk round the bottom, black cloth braided jackeS, turban hat, trimmed with a violet and brown feather, a white crosj- over, and new kid boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Osbon, Lewes, Sussex, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- ttreet, May 6. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Missing from his home since 3rd instant:— WILLIAM HENRY BENNETT, 35 years of age, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, grey eyes; is fond of attending race meetings ; dressed when last see » in black suit, and deerstalker hat. It is feared some ill has befallen him. Information to Mr. Supt. Hftigh, Town Hall, Kidderminster.— Brn- st., May 11. Left Caersws Workhouse on 3rd instant, and it is feared some ill may have befallen him:— EDWARD DAYIES, about 12 years of age, about 4 feet 3 inches high, fresh com- plexion, round teatures, blue eyes, very light brown hair, has a fresh cut mark on knuckle joint of right little finger ;| dressed in new corduroy jacket, vest, and trousers, and Scotch cap. Information to Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, May 11. Remanded until 16th instant, at Stafford, charged with shop lifting JAMES FOSTER, 29 years of age, 5 feet high, fresh complexion, dark hair, brown eyes, slender build, small flesh mark on left cheek and under right eye, seven blue spots, Staffordshire knot, heart, and two flags on left forearm, ' J. F.' and blue spots on back of left hand, near the thumb, bracelet on back uf right wrist, native of Liverpool; dressed in blue pilot jacket, faded, with blue velvet collar, brown cloth vest, dark corduroy trousers, old lace- up boots, round hard felt hat, red and blue plaid'' scarf; states he has been in the American Navy, returned to'England in July last, since that time has been tramping the country.
