No. 6608 MONDAY, MAY 9, 1881. £ 7i< substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputes Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are hioivn but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Th Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Properiy that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. CONTAINING Notice.— It is requested that nil communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in ireference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. * t* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- ' hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor « DUSt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, Bhould be forwarded an War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, » above, for insertion in the POLIOE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. < 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. Also stolen from the person, on the platform of the railway station at Edenbrige, on 6th instant :— a gold Watch, maker J. T. Noakes, Tonbridge, No. 523, with a gold Albert Chain attached. Stolen from the person, at Pembroke Dock, on 23rd ult. : — a double- cased gold Geneva stop Watch, white enamelled dial, sunk sSconds, with a gold curb Albert Chain attached, . plain bar for button hole, with gold Key in form of a horse's leg and hoof. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Clarke, Pembroke.— Bow- ttreet, May 2. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of breaking into an office at Evesham, on 4th instant:— a £ 5 packet of Silver, and other Monies ; 6s. worth of Postage Stamps, Is. worth of Receipt Stamps, aud a very small patent Key, with a steel Chain attached. Information to Sergeant Gauderton, Evesham, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, May 9. Stolen by means of burglary, at Witchiugham Rectory, during the night of 4th instant:— a large silver Snuff- box; a rosewood Tea- caddy; and 8s. worth of Postage Stamps. Supposed by a tramp, 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 ins. high, dark moustache, no beard ; dressed in dark pilot coat, dark trousers, and dark hard chummy hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Chambers, Aylsham, Norfolk.— Bow- st., Mai] 9. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Harpham, on the eight of 2nd instant: — about 3s. in Copper, and a quantity of Tobacco, in one ounce and half- ounce packets, papers marked ' Parkinson and Son, Driffield.' Supposed by men who are tramping the country as sweeps :— the first, 22 years of age, 5 feet 9i inches high, broad face, finger whiskers, stout build, • white slop, dirty with soot, aud lace boots, with round nails in soles. The 2nd, his brother, 23 years of age, small features, rather pockpitted, 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes. And a lad, name unknown, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 5i inches high, fair complexion, short jacket, and a native of Hull or York. Information to Mr. Supt. Harper, Driffield, E. R. C., Yorka.— Bow- st., May 6. Stolen by means of burglary, between 11 p. m. on 1st and C a. m. on 2nd instant, at Brandsburton, East Yorkshire :— 6 silver Tea Spoons, a silver Salt Spoon, a pair of Sugar Cows,' all marked ' G. S. H.'; and £ 2 10s, in Copper Money. Tramps suspected. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Naylor E. R. C., Beverley, or to Inspector Kelsey, E. R. C., Leven, East Yorks.— Bow- ttreet, May 6. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Godfrey Hole, Wirksworth, on 4th instant:— 3 pairs of new ( not worn) women's No. 6 elastic- side Boots— one pair kid tops with a bit of patent leather up the centre of toes, other tivo pairs Levant leather tops with patent toe- caps ; a piece of new bleached Calico ; a piece of new Hollands ; a Half- Sovereign ; an old small square Brooch without a pin ; 3f yards of black Merino ; li yd. brown ditto ; 2 yds. black bright Cloth ; a red flannel Petticoat; and a pair of brown knitted Stockings. Stolen by means of burglary, at Newcastle- under- Lyme, during the night of 28th ultimo : — a grey tweed reefer Jacket, has a very narrow red stripe running downwards, very faint, Vest and Trousers of same material, the Trousers are lined with grey calico; and a pair of brown mixture tweed Trousers, strap aud buckle behind. The suit of grey clothes since found pledged at Congleton, on 29tli April, by a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale com- plexion and rather dark, slender build, dark browu hair, no whiskers, dark brown moustache; dressed in black cloth coat, hard billycock hat, end clogs. Information to Acting Head Constable Dutton, iiorough Police Office, Newcastle- under- Lyme, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 2. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed stolen from a field at Glassfynurd Farm, Cray, Breeonshire, between 18th and 19th' ultimo : — a cream- coloured mare mountain Pony, supposed to be in foal, about 14 years old, unshod, and branded with a heart on left hind hip. information to Owen Price, Esq., Nantyrharn, . Cray, or to Sergeant Williams, Devynnock, Breconshire. — Bow street, May 9. The entire cart Colt, stolen from Westbury- on- Severn, near Newnham, and advertised in Police Gazette of 6th instant, has been found and restored to the owner,— Bow- st., May 9. Stolen on or about 1st instant, from folds, either at Wantage or Stanford, Berks :— a half- bred Teg, in good con- dition, with a blue mark on the poll. Information to Mr. Supt. Absconded On 11th ultimo, from Maidenhead, stealing a Horse, Cart, and Harness, since recovered at Reading:— JOHN THOMPSON, 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, thin, fair complexion, light brown hair, slight light moustache ; dressed in dark brown sleeve waistcoat, twill Bleeves, cord trousers, lace boots, nearly new, black soft felt hat, labourer. Information to Mr. Sapt. Taylor, Borough Police, Maiden aead, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, May 6. Supposed stolen from Mount Pleasant, Lymington, on 28th March last:— a bay cart Mare, about 13 hands high, 8 years old, some white spots on near side of back, and has a corn on each side of fore fetlock, ( the mare was purchased about a fortnight previous, of George Thompson, a gipsey, aud may have strayed back to her former home). Found at Chilton, near Sudbury, Suffolk, on 28th ultimo: — a chestnut mare Pony, 3 years old, 11 hands 3 inches high, long tail, hair chafed off shoulders ; the pony is in the charge of P. C. Stolen at Newcastle- on- Tyne, during the night of 26th ultimo :— a chesnut Colt, 3 years old, white star on forehead ; also a dark brown horse Pony, 12 years old, hair rubbed off on off side, near the first rib. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT SIDNEY SEARLE, advertised in Police Gazette of 20th April as charged at Bingham with stealing a Watch, Coat, and other articles, has been apprehended at Portland, Dorsetshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Somerset, Bingham, Notts.— Bow- street. May 9. Absconded from Cirencester, on 6th instant, charged with stealing a carpenter's Plough and a Square, since recovered pawned; also from a building, two lathe Hammers, one marked ' A. G.' the other ' E. M.'; a pointer Trowel; and a Awl:— a tramping plasterer, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark hair, littie dark whiskers, thin built, speaks through his nose, and walks in a stooping position ; dressed in a bowler hat, brown jacket, yellow thread cord trousers, aud old boots, broke across the instep. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, 28th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embe2zliug .£ 200 ;— GEORGE DELVES,, late Clerk to the Southborough Local Board aud the Public Hall Company, also Secretary to Public Hall Company at Tunbridge Wells, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion, long dark whiskers and moustache ; dresses usually in dark clothes and hard rouud black felt hat. Absconded on 2i> d instant, charged on warrant with larceny of £ 16: — JAMES CARR, a journeyman pork butcher, 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh com- nlexion, prominent blue eyes, short- cut dark browu curly hair, crooked forefinger of right hand, large blue cut mark across right wrist, which causes it to be rather stiff, andi slender figure; dressed in a black cloth coat with flue slop underneath, dark green trousers, dark grey cloth cap with two peaks, and a pair of side spring boots, nearly new, a native of West Hartlepool, and is likely to emigrate. Absconded from Worcester, about 28th M irch last,, charged with embezzlement : — THOMAS SUGDEN SCHOLEFIELD, a brewer's traveller, 30 years of age, 5. feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, small brown whiskers a.' d moustache ( supposed shaven), round full face, well built ; is very fond of rowing, and has been secretary to the Worcester Rowing Club ; his mother- in- law resides at Clifton, near Bristol. Information to Sergeant Sommers, City Police, Worcester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 4. Absconded on 15th March last, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:— E. A. WILLIAMS, late of Lord- street, Wolverhampton, 33 or 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair and whiskers, fair moustache, several front teeth deficient, gunpowder mark on cheek, two fingers contracted on left hand ; dressed in light brown suit, and hard felt hat; traveller in the cigar trade ; supposed known in Birmingham and Manchester. Charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 5 7s., the monies of his master :— JOHN ANSELL, late of Woodcock- street, Birmingham, about 23 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, very dark hair and eyes, eyebrows meet, dark mous- tache, no whiskers ; dressed in dark corded coat and vest, light tweed trousers, and hard bowler hat. Frequents races, aud associates with betting characters. Information to Detective Supt. Robinson, Birmingham.— Bom- street, May 4. Absconded from Brownhills, on 2nd instant, charged on warrant with stealing a fore quarter of Beef ; a side and a loin of Veal :— HENRY WALKER, 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stoutish build, light complexion, light hair, tuft of hair on chin, which is inclined to be sandy, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark cloth round jacket and vest, corduroy trousers, strong lace- up boots, and dark cloth cap, with peak, and a button on the top; he is a butcher, but sometimes works as a brewer, native of Shrews- bury ; he is very fond of drink. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownhills, near Walsall, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 4. Charged with larceny :— a man, 45 yews of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout, fair complexion, hair, whiskers and mous- tache, turning grey, and bald ; dressed in black pilot over- coat, new velvet collar, dark cloth jacket and vest, under- woven with small red and wh te threads, snuff- colour trousers, white neck wrapper, high silk hat, newly lined, woollen, plaid shirt, black knot tie, Wellington boots with holes fox- Abscon- ed on 27th ultimo, from Wordsley Green Kingswinford, charged with embezzling various sums, oft Money :— JOSEPH BRADLEY, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, long light brown ieard and moustache, stoutish build, a little bow- logged ;, dressed in blue pilot pea jacket, cord trousers, soft billycock hat, strong lace- up boots ; has of late been employed as a brewer's drayman ; a native of Kidderminster, at one time in the employment of Mr. Bucknall, a brewer, of Kidder-, minster, and at one time in the employment of Mr. Cooper, a brewer, of Dudley, Worcestershire. Associates with brewers" draymen and carters, and well known in South Staffordshire.. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen between 2 20 and 3 30 p. m. on liOth ultimo, from 9 P O L I C E GAZETTE. May 11 a lodge at Crowsley- park, Shiplake, Oxon :— ten silver Tea Spoons, six marked ' M. C. D.,' two ' S.' on back, two ' S. M. S.'; a large mosaic Brooch, set in gold, Vatican of Rome ; a small gold Brooch, with Scotch atone; a silver Thistle.: a bone Brooch, thistle pattern ; a large hair Guard, gold mountings ; a blue satin Tie, gold Pin attached; a snake- pattern gold Pin, with peach- coloured stone ; a gold Wedding King ; an old- fashioned gold Ear Ring, with peach- coloured Btoiie; and about 5s. in Silver. Supposed by a man about 23 years of age, 5 feet or 6 inches high, and slender build; dressed in dark clothcs and hard low round black hat ; had the appear- ance of a gentleman's servant. Information to Mr. Supt. Coates, Police Station, Henley- on- Thames, Oxon.- How- street, May 2. ( spurs at back and sides ; wore two rings— a dark green stone, and a keeper, African gold ; had in his possession a dark green travelling cap, lined with scarlet silk, and a red and white pocket book. Any person having travelled in a third class carriage, or had any conversation with this man, who left Buckhurat- hill by the 6.53 p. m. train on the evening of 20th ultimo, stopping at Woodford at 6.57, George Lane at 7.1, Snaresbrook at 7.7, Leytonstone at 7.8, Leyton at 7.11, Stratford at 7.17, Bow Road at 7.20, Burdett Road at 7.22, Stepney at 7.25, and reaching Fencnurch Street at 7.32 ( although having a third- class ticket for Liverpool Street), is requested to communicate with the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, or to Mr. Supt. Green, Stoke Nejrington Police Station. .£ 10 reward will be paid for any informa- tion which may lead to his arrest.— Bow- street, May 4. Absconded, charged with embezzlement : — GEORGE AGG, a journeyman baker, 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, thin build, light brown hair, beard, and moustache, grey eyes ; dressed in long grey overcoat, cloth cap, same material, shabby. Warrant issued. Infor- mation to the Dir -. ctor of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, May 2. Absconded on 23rd ultimo, from East Grinstead, charged with stealing a post Letter containing a Sovereign, the property of the Postmaster Genera'. :— HERBERT BRIANT, a post office messenger between East Grinstead and Blindley Heath, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight figure, fair complexion, bran freckled face, and broken nose; dressed in black coat, dark mixture trousers, and black hard felt hat. Has been at East Grinstead about 3 years ; is a native of Goshall, near Foidingbridge, Hants. Information to Mr. Supt. Berry, East Grinstead, Sussex, who holds the warrant for his apprehension .— Bow- street, May 2. Stolen at Burntwood, on 26th ult :— a pair of men's lace- up boots, nearly new, patent leather up the front, size 6J, and a dark blue cloth pilot jacket, two pockets outside, and one inside left breast, mucli worn.— By a man, who had been lodging at the house one night, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, slender build, very much pock marked, a labourer in brickyards, and a native of Shropshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney Brownhill, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., May 2. Committed for trial at next Taunton Quarter Sessions :— EDWIN JAMES FEAR ( advertised in Police Gazette of 25th . ultimo, charged with stealing Wearing Apparel from the dwelling house at Midsomer Norton), a labourer, native of Bath, 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight build, dark br< jwn, hair, grey eyes, pma'l tuft of hair on end of chin, swarthy complexion, and slightly crippled in left leg; has been convicted of felony at Bristol, Bath, Shepton Mallet, also sentenced to 7 years penal servitude and 7 years police supervision, at Gloucester, in 1871. Information to Sergeant Tucker, Somerset County Constabulary, Midsomer Norton, Bath.— Bow- street, May 2. Absconded from Leighton Buzzard, on 24th ultimo, charged with fowl stealing at Heath aud Reach JAMES HUMBLES, alias HORSEMAN, from 26 to 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, little or no whiskers, and of dirty appearance; dressed in dark grey jacket, white or brown slop, fustain or cord trousers, and cap with peak, upright when walking, steps short and quick, with a shuffling gait, and generally carries his hands in his trousers pockets. He may try to enlist in the army. Information to Mr. Sup'. Shepherd. Leighton Buzzard, Beds, who holds ^ the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 2. Dover, January 10, 1872 ; and ' Acton on Prostitution,' ' W. Miller' written inside in lead pencil. Information to Mr. Supt. Evans, Crickhowell, or to Sergeant Davies, Hay, Breconshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 9. Absconded on 2lst March last, from Beaumaris, Anglesey, charged on a warrant with obtainging by fraud 2 pieces of t perforated Zinc ( since recovered) : — HUGH ROBERTS; alias CROX, a native of Beaumaris, about 40 or 43 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, dark complexion, dark brown moustache, no whiskers, pimply face, square built, and a plasterer ; dressed in black cloth coat, dark waistcoat, white slop, moleskin trousers, hard felt hat, and generally carrying in his pocket a coloured soft hat. He is of a scampish appearance, and fond of low company. Information to Sergeant Jones, Police Station, Beaumaris, who holds the warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, May 9. Charged on a warrant with obtaining Ten Shillings by false pretences, at Greenhithe. Swanscombe, Kent, on 26th ultimo:— WM. BLACKHALL, 38 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, rather slender build, and full sandy whiskers ; dressed in serge reefer coat, brown tweed trousers aud vest, and iB a Scotchman. States he belonged to the ship ' Elizabeth' of and from Aberdeen with potatoes. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Fread, or to Sergeant Jordan, K. C. C., Police Station, Dartford.— Bow- street, May 6. Charged with obtaining by false pretence, at Lewes, on 21st ultimo a quantity of Bread, Butter, and other articles of Food :— ANNIE WILSON, 18 years of age, 4 ft. ll£ ins. high, brown hair, stout figure, late of Lewes, domestic servant; dressed in black princess dress, black silk round the bottom, black cloth braided jaskeS, turban hat, trimmed with a violet and brown feather, a white cross- over, and new kid boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Osbon, Lewes, Sussex, who holds a warrant for her apprehensioc.— Bow- street, May 6. Description of JOHN PINDER, wanted for fraud :— he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, brown eyes, slight sandy beard, whiskers and moustache, slender build, and is a butcher ; dressed in brown suit and black billycock hat. His wife's mother ( Mrs. Pratt) resides at Patrick, Brompton, between Bedale and Jervaulx ; his step- father ( Mr. Dunn) ia herd to J. Waldie, Esq., Burden Hall, near Darlington, and PINDER has been in business as a butcher in Darlington. Information to Chief Inspector Nortcliff, Detective Department, Leeds.— Bow- street, May 2. FELONIES. Charged with ravishing a girl eight years old. at 6 p. m. on 7th instant, in Cilcen, Flintshire :— a tramp, about 35 yrs. of age, from 5 feet 6 to 8 inches high, sandy whiskers and moustache, and red face ; dressed in a brown coat, another coat underneath, cord trousers, and billycock hat. informa- tion to Deputy Chief Constable Adams or Inspector Minshull, Mold, Fliitihire.— Bow- street, May 9.
