INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. JAMES FREEMAN, charged in the Police Gazette of 6th December last, with maliciously wounding a Constable, at Hanley, has been apprehended.— Bow- st., April 27. Charged on warrant with shooting with intent to do grievous bodily harm, at the Heath Wood, Eardisland, Here- ford, on 17th instant:— GEORGE MORGAN, 19 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, no whiskers or moustache, dark hair, walks slightly lame on one leg ; has been stonebreaking in the Weobly District; his parents reside at Broxwood, near Pembridge. Information to Mr. Supt. Shead, Weobly, Herefordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehended.— Bow- st., April 25. The woman advertised in Police Gazette of 19th instant, charged with Murdering her Child, has been apprehended and committed to take her trial for the Murder. The man, described as being in her Company, was also apprehended and discharged.— Bow- street, Ap- il 25. FORGERY. FRANCIS HANCOCK ( Sergeant, 14th Regt. of Foot), charged on warrant with Forgery at Fulford, has been appre- hended.— Bow- street, April 29. Charged with forging and uttering £ o Bank of England Notes :— a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, rather sallow complexion, dark hair, cut short, and inclined to be curly, dark heavy moustache, and side whiskers, shaved on chin, speaks good English, but with a foreign accent; dressed in long dark brown overcoat, black billycock hat, and a small black tie, with a bow knot. He utters the false notes to tradesmen during the evening, in payment for small articles. Information to Chief Constable Poyntz, Detective Department, St. John's- street, Nottingham. — Bow- street, April 25. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Absconded, charged with stealing from the person, at Garway, on 13th instant, £ 2 10s. in Gold, and an open face Geneva Watch, No. 38876 :— DAVID CASTREE, stone- cutter, 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair com- plexion and hair, « mall whi » kers and moustache, medium build ; dressed in grey suit, much worn, both knees of trousers mended, hairy cap, and strong boots. He is a member of the Canterbury Militia. Information to Mr. Supt. Smith, Ross, Herefordshire, who holds the warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, April 29, Stolen from the person at Croxteth Hunt Steeple Chases on 23rd instant:— A gold Watch, chronometer balance, full plate, marine bevel, flat glass, No. 70763, monogram ' W. D.' on case. A gold lever Watch, centre seconds, maker ' John Har- greaves, Wigan, No. 554,' crystal glass. A lady's silver lever Watch, maker ' Joseph Taylor, Liverpool, N). 1238.' A gold |- plate English Lever Watch, makers ' Bryson and Son, Edinburgh, No. 4865,' enamelled dial, gold lingers, which turn behind, plain back. A patent silver lever Watch, No. 4086, white dial, maker ' Richard Woolfall' on dial, ' W. S. J., Deer. 13th, 1866,' engraved on back of inside case, with engine- case much worn. Also stolen from the person at Halewood Railway Station, on 23rd instant:— A gold Lever Watch, plain cases, maker 1 Budge, Cal- lington, No. 504068, black figures and gold hands. A gold Albert Guard, had attached a gold Seal with light coloured stone ( initials ' J. W.,' a gold Key, the tube broken off with age, and a Guinea, date 1771. Information to Mr. Supt. Brindle, Police Office, Prescot, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 29. 4 Stolen from the person at Belle Vue Gardens," at 9 p. m. on 18th instant :— a silver lever Watch, No. 4549, white dial, gold hands, and small sunk seconds. Stolen from the person at Gorton, on 18th instant:— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 74703. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manches- ter.— Bow- st., April 25. Stolen from the person in Brighton, since 15th instant:— An old fashioned open face large size gold lever Watch, maker's name in centre of dial 1 Gibson, London,' and a massive gold cable Albert Chain and plain gold Locket, containing the likeness of a lady attached. An open face gold lever Watch, maker's name ' Jewling, Poultry, London.' A silver lever Watch, maker Mason, Blackburn. A gold open face Watch with white face, maker Barraud, London. A gold duplex Watch, old fashioned, open face, and heavy gold Albert Chain ( 18 carat), two red coral Charms, and George Illrd Guinea attached. A silver English lever Watch. Stolen about 10' 30 p. m., I3th instant, from the person, in Peter- street, Manchester :—- a g > ld lever Watch, white dial, maker Merrick, Windsor, No. 2543. £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner upon the apprehension and conviction of the thief and recovery of the watch. Stolen by means of housebreaking on the night of 21st instant,' at Skegby, Notts :— a rough top Coat; a Scarf ; a Muffler ; a cloth Cap ; two Horse- clipping Machines ; a pair of shoemaker's Pincers; a fpair of spring- sided Stirrups; a pair of Pliers ; a Spokeshave ; two Gimlets ; a 3- foot Rule ; a set of shoe Brushes ; two clothes Brushes ; a horse Brush ; a Sponge ; a pair of man's low Shoes ; a pair of man's nailed Boots ; and an 8- day Clock. Committed for trial at Retford Quarter Sessions in July next, charged with housebreaking at Edingley, on 17th inst. : — a man who gives his name as WM. WINGFIELD, an Irishman, from Chesterfield ( which address is false), and Btates that he is a striker for shoeing smiths, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, no whiskers or mous- tache, black hair, grey eyes, and has a letter ' D' on left breast; dressed in a blue pilot cloth coat ( turning brown) with black velvet collar, black cloth vest and trousers, black high crowned soft billy hat. The property which was stolen is still missing :— a gold oval shaped Locket ( chased) with a plain bar across ; a long silver watch Guard, closely worked ; and a gold breast Pin, liorseshce pattern. Information to Inspector Webster, Police Station, Soutlwell, Nottingham- shire.— Bow- street, April 27. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 20th instant, at Cheadle, Staffordshire :— 3 children's dark stuff Frocks, new ; a French merino Dres3, trimmed with black lace and velvet, and a deep flounce round bottom; a light drab Dress, princess' robe make, several flounces round bottom, part worn ; a pawnticket for a wedding Ring, pledged at G. Greaves's, Longton, for 10s., in the name of Elizabeth Booth, Sept., 1880. Information to Mr. Supt. Williams, Leek, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 25. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen at Maney, Sutton- Coldfield, on morning of 25th instant :— a dark bay mare Pony, in foal, about 13 hands high. Information to Mr. Supt. Gallaway, Police Office, Aston Park, near Birmingham.— Bow street, April 29. The chestnut Pony, reported stolen from Mollington, Warwickshire, advertised in Police Gazette, April 22nd, has been recovered in an adjoining county.— Bow- street, April 29. fc Stolen on 25th instant, at Tanfield, Durham :— a half- bred brown Horse, about 16^ hands high, two broken knees, rising 4 years old, had on Saddle and Bridle. By WILLIAM RICHARDSON, butcher, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, hair inclined to ginger, slender figure, single ; dressed in dark corded cloth coat, vest, and trousers, hard felt hat, elastic- side boots, and dark short top- coat; on the same date he collected several sums of Money for his master, which he took with him. Information to Mr. Supt. Oliver, Consett, Durnam.— Bow- st., April 25. A Lamb was slaughtered in a field near Leighton Bridge. The skin, head, legs and entrails were found in the River Severn, on 26th instant, and appear to have been in the wster two or three days. Information , to Mr. Supt. Ellis, Welsh- pool, or to P. C. Thomas, Buttington, Montgomeryshire.—• Bow- street, April 29. Stolen from Lilleshall Colliery, on 20th instant:— two Cobs— a black Mare, 4 years old, 14 hands 1 inch high, a few white hairs on forehead, and had no shoes on; also a brown Horse, about 14 hands high, 3 years old, a little white on forehead, had three shoes on, much vorn. Information to Chief Superintendent Jones, or to Sergeant Chuster, Oaken- gates, Shropshire.— Bow- street, April 27. Absconded from Wolverhampton, on 3rd instant, charged with stealing two Sheep ( recovered), on 2nd instant FRANK HARPER, alias LITTLE JEW, 28 years^ of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, no whiskers or moustache, cut marks on right cheek and chin, and tattoo marks ( star and anchor) on back of left hand ; dressed in dirty dark clothing, and black hard billycock hat. Knows something of the butchering trade, but is more frequently employed mending umbrellas, gathering rags, and hawking imitation roses, cut from potatoes, turnips, and cabbage stalks ; also sings in] the streets ; is an associate of poachers, and frequents common lodging- houses. Information to Inspector Gilbride, Tettenhall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow St., April 27. Stolen between 10 a. m. 20th, and 6 p. m. 21st ir^ iant, from a field at Burntwood :— ten ewe Sheep, and ten Lambs, recently castrated. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownhills, Walsall.— Bow- street, April 25. Found in the possession of two convicted thieves, at Cradley Heath, on the night of 23rd instant :— the Carcase of a Lamb, about three weeks or a month old, cut in four quar- ters, had been very recently killed, and very roughly dressed. The skin, head, and entrails are missing. Infoimation to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 55, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded, charged with larceny ( lodger) :— GEORGE TIPPLER, alias LAWES, 24 years of age, 5 feet 9 ins. high, fair complexion, and slight moustache ; dressed in drab suit, black hard felt hat, and a shoemaker. Has friends at Lei- cester, and may go to Northampton or Manchester. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, April 29. Charged with stealing a Shawl on 19th instant :— a boy, 14 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, and light hair ; dreesi'd in dark coat, moleskin trousers, and elastic side boots. Infor- mation to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, April 25. Charged with stealing Money :— HERBERT COLTON has been some time employed as chief clerk to the Board of Health, Sheffield, absconded on 20th instant ; he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes. April 2 9 Stolen a gold Geneva Watch, No. 921, white dial, gold pointers, and ha3 ' Bonnet, Geneva,' engraved on works. By a man about 30 years ( jf age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, and brown hair ; dressed in a blue pilot cloth coat, double breasted, black and white check trousers, and black cloth cap with peak ; and a young man about 16 years of age ; dressed in grey check tweed suit, and low crowned hard felt hat; both rather dirty appearance. The first described went into a pawnbroker's shop and offered the Watch for pledge, the pawnbroker detained the Watch, and the two men left without it. Two men answering their description called at an eating- house in Durham City about 6 p. m. on 20th instant. Information to Chief Constable Elliott, Gateshead.— Bow- it., April 25. Stolen on 18th instant, at the ' Three Horse Shoes Inn', Midsomer Norton :— a single - breasted drab ribbed plaid • loth Yest, a single- breasted black cloth Vest, two under flannel Shirts, worn, two Razors with white handles, a silk pocket Handkerchief with white spots, and a 66 feet tape Measure in mahogany case. Supposed by & man who lodged there for the night, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh looking, tuft of hair on chia, slightly crippled, and wore a white slop. Information to Sergeant Tucker, Somerset County Constabulary, Midsomer Norton, Bath.— Bow- street, April 25. Charged on a Sheriff's warrant with embezzlement of large sums of Money of his employers, the Stockwell Tobacco Manufacturing Company, Stockwell Street:— GEO. ROBB, a traveller, about $ 6 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, black hair and moustache, small black whiskers, detached from moustache, and pale complexion ; dressed generally in black shooting coat and vest, dark trousers, round felt black hat, genteel appearance, a native of Aberdeen, and absconded on 20th instant. Information to Chief Constable M'Call, Glasgow.— Bow- street, April 25. Stolen from the ' Albion' public- house, Gravesend :— a pair of valuable Eardrops ( recovered). By a man who slept in the house two nights, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair ( parted in centre), cross eyed ; well dressed, and of gentlemanly appearance. Information to Mr. Superintendent Berry, Gravesend.— Bow- street, April 25. Absconded, charged with embezzlement: — JOSEPH PREECE, 40 years ot age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, pitted with small pox, full sandy beard aDd moustache ; dressed in dark jacket and trousers, long blua overcoat, military appearance; formerly a quartermaster- sergeant of Royal Artillery, and now a pensioner. Warrant issued. £ 10 reward will be paid by the National Dwelliug-- Saciety, 35, Spring- gardens, Charing Cross, to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the above Information to the Director of Criminal Investi- gation, Great Scotland- yard, S. W. — Metropolitan Police, April 25. Absconded, 18th instant, charged ( with another man in custody) with stealing 3 Watches and other articles:— WILLIAM COVENDALE, 17 years ef age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, black hair, dark eyes ; dressed in dark tweed suit, low black felt hat, lace boots; a horsekeeper; native of Yorkshire. Was traced to Newcastle- on- Tyne on 19th instant. May be found in company with horse dealers attending country fairs and markets. Warrant issued. In- formation U- The Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, April 25. Absconded from Winchcomb, Gloucestershire, on 15ib instant, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 9 7s. as a bailee GEORGE WOODWARD, a pensioner from the army after about 21 years' service, ab? ut 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, datk hair and complexion, thick lips, small whiskers at side of face, rather stout, square build, and walks erect; dressed in bowler hat, light slop jacket, and dark cloth trousers. Information to Sergeant Clark, Police Station, Winchcomb, Gloucestershire, who holds the warrant, or to Mr. Supt, Day, Cheltenham.— Bow- street, April 25. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Charged with obtaining Goods by fraud :— WALTER SMITHYES, 131, Well- street, Hackney, 24 yearj of age, 5 feet 9 or > 0 inches high, dark hair and moustache, full black eyes ; dressed in dark clothes, high black hat; respectable appearance; a commercial traveller. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Polico, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.- Bow- street. April 27. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Committed for trial at next Stafford Quarter Sessions, charged with shopbreaking :— DENNIS NOLAN, alias REILLY, by trade a gasfitter, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7} inches high, slender build, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, small moustache, sandy tuft on chin, cut over right eyebrow aud corner right eye, tattooed • Dennis Nolan' on left arm, and dimple in chin ; states he is a native of Dublin ; dressed in brown tweed suit, • plaid shirt, hard felt hat, and lace- up boots. And WILLIAM alias WALTER SMITH, by trade a gold beater, 30 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 8 inches high, blender build, fresh complexion, grey eyes, light brewn hair, fair moustache, no whiskers, short cut corner left eye; dressed in dark mixture tweed trousers, black diagonal cloth vest and coat, stripe shirt, hard felt hat, and elastic- side hoots ; states he is a native of Lincoln. found in their possession a new and complete set of house- breaking implements. These men are supposed to have recently been in penal servitude. Photo can be seen on application to Detective Inspector Wheaver, Chief Constable's Office, Stafford.— Bow- street, April 29. A Man, refusing to give his name and address, is remanded till 4th proximo on a charge of vagrancy, and assaulting a Constable :— he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 31 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in old double- breasted blue cloth jacket, double- breasted mixture c'oth vest, old drabbet trousers, patched down front, old brown cloth trousers underneath, old white calico shirt, brown cloth cap with peak, and old blucher boots, afoimatiou to Inspector Cadge, Louth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, April 29. Description of MARY ANN REACH, remanded until 3rd proximo for larceny ;— 58 years of age, about 5 feet high, grey hair and eyes, sallow complexion, rather long face, and of proportionate build; states she is a native Bury St. Edmunds. Information to Mr. Supt. Burrows, March, Isle of Ely, Cambs.— Bow- street, April 29. Remanded at Loftus, till 3rd proximo, on three charges of ay :— JOHN WALKER, a puncher, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 31 inches high, light brown hair, blae eyes, fresh complexion, and proportionate bui. d. JAMES WALKER, an underhand puddler, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, and slender build. And JOHN SLATER, facteryhand, 17 years of age, 5 feet li inches high, dark eyes, light brown hair, fresh complexion, slender, and has an impediment in his speech. They are all natives of Bradford. Information to Mr. Supt. Clarkson, North Riding Constabulary, Guisborough, or to Inspector Allen, Police Office, Loftus- in- Cleveland.— Bow- st., April 29. Committed for 6 months for larceny, at Middlesbrough:— GEORGE KENNEDY, alias PORTERFIELD, a painter, 52 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, proportionate figure, pale complexion, grey hair, whiskers aud moustache, hazel eyes, no teeth in upper jaw but one on right side in front, two white scars on back of neck, mole in front, bald on top of head and red scar thereon, and a native of Liverpool. THOS. BORFIELD, stone mason, 18 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate figure, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, pockpitted, a native of Liverpool, and lives in Low- street, near Quayside, but speaks the Tyneside dialect. Information to Chief Constable Saggerson, Police Office, Middlesbrough.— Bow- street, April 29. Committed for trial at Middlesbrough, on a charge of converting to his own use four Watches :— GEORGE LIMB, alias WILLIAM WHITWORTH, alias JOHN ROGERS, 33 years of age, 5 feet 11J inches high, proportionate figure, brown hair, dark eyes, scar from a stab between left shoulder and elbow. He was convicted at Lindsey Sessions, Lincoln, on 8th July, 1877, of obtaining Goods by false pretences, and sentenced to 6 months, hard labour, at Grantham Lincolnshire Sessions on 6th February, 1878, on a charge of obtaining a Gun by false pretences, and sentenced to 18 months imprison- ment. Has been in the Army, and is branded with the letter ' D.' He has lived at Carlton- in- Lindrick, at Fleet, Lincoln- shire, also at Doncaster, Sheffield, and other places. Some- times represents himself to be a machinist, other times as a watch and clock cleaner. A few months ago was in the North Eastern Railway Company's Police at Middlesbrough. Information to Chief Constable Saggerson, Police Office, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. — Bow- st., April 29. Committed for trial to Knutsford Quarter Sessions, on 21th proximo, charged with stealing 5 small silver Crests, four with arm and hand with serpent, resting on a crown, one with ' J. H.
