No. 6594 WEDNESDAY, APRIL 6, 1881 Notice.— It is requested that all comnrenieations for the ( purpose ef obtaining or giving information respecting supposfd • offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or eeniing the same, and all applications in reference to tho POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, Londen, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- Ihendefl, snd the Same is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested eopy thereof, tegether with Che- advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made fer the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ef Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to tho Editor, as abeve, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward, (&) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will he paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They sheuld contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It Js particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addrerssed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once ireturned through th « Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." INFORMATIONS. MURDER, AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. The three men advertised in Police Gazette of 18th Feb THOMAS PARRY, GEORGE COOKE, and ANTHONY WHITNEY, for night poaching and murderous assault on the game keepers on the Moor Estate, Clifford, near Hay, they have been apprehended, and all three committed to take their trial at the ensuing Assizes for the county of Hereford. Thomas Parry is suspected of similar offences elsewhere. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Shead, Weobley, Herefordshire. Bow- street, April 4. FORGERY. Absconded from Ipswich on 29th ultimo, charged on a warrant with forgery :— WILLIAM SAMUEL ROBERT CATT, a coach builder, late of the firm Catt, Brothers, Ipswich and Colchester, 37 years of age, 5 ft. llf inches high, without shoes, freBh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, stout build; it is believed he will attempt to leave the country. Information to Chief Constable Russell, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- street, April 1. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Daniel Riley, of Bignall End, collier, whilst drunk at Red- street, Chesterton, on 28th nit. : — a silver lever Watch, No. 28179, a bit chipped out of dial near the figure 5, and had a flower painted inside the back case; also about 21s. in Money. Information to Sergeant docker, Chesterton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 6. Stolen from the person en 8th ultimo, at Manchester :— a gold English lever Watch, maker Dilger, Bury, No. 36008, had attached a heavy gold Albert, curb pattern, to which was appended an oval shaped broken gold Seal. Information to the Detective Department, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- st., April 1, Stolen from the person in Durham, on 26th instant:— a patent lever silver Watch, No. 11922, maker Oliver Young, Sandhill, Newcastle- on- Tyne, cream coloured dial, steel pointers, dial flowered in centre. Information to Chief Con- stable Duns, City Police Office, Durham.— Bow- st., March 30. Stolen from the person of Catherine Foley, a girl 10 years of age :— a Money Order for £ i 13s., and 6s. 6d. in Money. By a woman, about 40 years of age, fresh complexion, medium height; dressed in black drass, black and drab shawl. Stolen from the person at Sutton- Coldfield Railway Station, on 18th instant :— a gold demi- hunting lever Watch, open, blue enamel figures, maker Moses, No. 12525, with gold Chain, curb pattern, and gold pencil Case with plain dot down side. Remanded until 12th instant, charged with house-* PATRICK LAPPAN, alias RICHARD WINSTONE, 33 years of age, 5 feet 4i inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, rather long beard ( shaved out on chin), and mous- tache ; dressed in a grey plaid coat and vest, moleskin trousers giey cloth cap with two peaks, and elastic- side boots, all much worn. JANE LAPPAN, alias WINSTONE, 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, freckled face, brown eyes, dark ginger hair, and proportionate build. They age natives of Belfast, Ireland ; in their possession were found 15 pawn tickets relating to property pledged in Edinburgh :— Nov. 8 / 80, by Rose McInnis, at D. Stolen by means of burglary, at Standon, near Eccleshall, Staffordshire, during the night of 30th ultimo :— a black cloth Coat, bound with black braid ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new ; £ 1 in Gold and £ 2 in Silver and Copper ; and about £ 1 worth of Penny and Half- penny Stamps. Also stolen by means of housebreaking, at Moss Gate, near Stone, between 5 a. m. and 7 p. m. on 1st instant:—£ 2 17s. 6d. in Silver, and 7d. in Coppers. The greater portion of the Silver is in 2s. Stolen by means of burglary, at Erdington, on night of 1st inst. :—£ 29 ( or more) iu Gold and Silver ; an old fashioned English lever Watch, No. 4709; a silver Snuff Box, inlaid with niello work; a gold Pencil; an electro- plated ear Trumpet, bell shaped; a pearl handle Pocket- Knife ; a small box of foreign Coins, various ; a small cameo Shell, unset, and several loose Postage and Receipt stamps. Amended description of the two men who are suspected to have committed the burglary at Heaves, near Milnthorpe, on the night of 20th ultimo, advertised in Police Gazette of 25th ultimo :— one about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, cut short, black whiskers, half- way down side of face, no beard or moustache, long thin face, turns right foot out when walking ; dressed in long black overcoat, grey cloth trousers ( nearly black), high black felt hat, lace- up boots ; the other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, light sandy hair, cut short, dark sandy whiskers all round face, and moustache, stout figure, walks erect ; dressed in light grey overcoat, dark grey tweed trousers, low black felt hat, white linen shirt front and collar, low shoes. Information to Mr. Supt. Shields, Kendal, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, April 4. Stolen by means of burglary, at Hockliffe, on the night of 25th ultimo :— 14 Spoons, two salt, six tea, two egg, four dessert ; 1 fish Knife, 1 sugar Ladle, 1 salad Spoon and Fork, and 1 wine Strainer, crest on all— 3 cross spears ; 2 small Salvers, crest— boar ; 3 old table Spoons, plain ; 5 tops of Castors; 2 table Spoons, marked ' N. A.'; 1 Fork, marked ' E. P.'; 1 small butter Knife; and 2 Skewers, all the above articles are silver. Supposed by two men, one about 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark brown hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes. The Other younger, not so tall: dressed in grey suit and cap. Shepherd, Leighton Buzzard, April 4, Stolen, by means of office breaking, between 1 and S p. m., 1st instant two £ 5 Bank of England Notes, one with' Miss Gilbert' on it ditto, of the Stafford Bank ; a Cheque for £ 12 18s. 4d.. fr* i% Ross Brothers to Banks and Co., No. R09528, on the Midland Banking Co. ; and a ditto for £ 6 5b. an Martin and Co.' s Bank, payable to Mr. Baasett. Supposed by two men : one is about 40 yearp of age, about 5 feet 8 ins, high, fresh complexion, rather bu4iy sandy whiskers, rather scout build ; dressed in dark brown overcoat and soft black billycock hat; the other is about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, slender, dark sallow fcomplexion, dark hair and moustache ; dressed in single- breasted brown overcoat, with one black button at top, and hard billycock hat. Stolen by means of burglary at Marton, near Pickering; from the shop of Elizabeth Fentriss, during the night of 29th ultimo:— about 2s. in copper Monies. Information to Mr; Supt. Stolen by means of heusebreaking, at Aston, on 27tK instant :— 1 gold lever Watch, gold face and figures, plaint cases. No. 5869; 1 gold Guard, small single link ; 1 gold Chain, gold wire intermixed ; 2 pairs of silver sugar Tongs, marked ' H. B.'; 5 silver egg Spoons; 8 electro- plated tea Spoons ; 6 table 3poons, 2 salt Spoons, 7 Forks, 1 pair sugar Tongs, all electro- plated. Information to Mr. Supt: Gallaway, Aston Park, near Birmingham.— Bow- st., Marsh 30. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Wanted on a charge of stealing a Pony, from Maghull, on 16th ultimo, which he sold at Fulwood the same day :— a man about 50 years of age, supposed to be a German, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark swarthy complexion, long whiskers, turning grey ; dressed in brown shooting coat, dark coloured vest and trousers, and hard felt hat. Information at County Police Office, Ormskirk.— Bow street, April 1. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT * Stolen from Raikes Colliery, Great Lever, between 4 p. m. 1st, and 6 a. m., 2nd instant;— 6 colliers Picks, 3 recovered. By a man, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in grey tweed cloth coat, light moleskin trousers, cloth cap with peak, and boots far worn, all his clothing is very dirty, has been lodging in Farnworth about 3 weeks, and went by the name of Mick, or Mike. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, City Police Office, Bolton.— Bow- street, April 6. Charged on warrant with embezzlement :— JOSEPH BARKER, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, of dissipated appearance, and rather stout; is known in Ripon, Bramham, Tadcaster, and other places in Yorkshire. Supposed now to be in Leeds. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable of Manchester.— Bow- street, April 6. Absconded from Chippenham, on 3rd instant, charged on warrant with stealing about 2 ozs. of 16- carat Gold, in strips, found pledged in Bath ; several pieoes of 16- carat gold Wire ; and a silver- mounted meerschaum Pipe, amber mouthpiece : - THOMAS TAYLOR, about 29 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, complexion, w hiskers and moustaches L chin shaved ; dressed in black frock coat, bowler hat, lace- up bjots ; a dentist; native of Bradford, Yorks. Information to Mr. Supt. Barrett, Chippenham, Wilts, who holds th8 warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 6. Stolen on 2nd instant, at Dorchester :— a new dark tweed Jacket, straight back, with black lining, sleeves lined with unbleached calico, plain black bone buttons, pockets on hips ; a single- breasted Vest to matoh, lined with unbleached calico; a pair of Trousers to match, lined with unbleached twill calico, fall fronts, black buttons. Supposed by a man, 25 to 30 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark moustache, and small whiskers side of face, shaves the chin ; dressed in dark cutaway coat, with buttons behind, brown trousers, hard bowler hat, stand up collar ; has the appear- ance of a jockey or groom. Information to Head Constable Coward, Borough Police Office, Dorchester, Dorset.— Bow- street, April .6 Charged with embezzlement:— HUGH ERNEST WATTS, butchers apprentice, 17 years of age, 5 feet 10 ins. high, fresh complexion, measled face, forehead recedes, brown hair, grey eyes, large nose, medium build, has been cut on right arm, about half way between wrist and elbow, which has left a lump; last seen on 28th ultimo, dressed in dark cbth coat and vest, two buttons off vest, dark plaid treusers, light watertight boots, collar turned down all round, and has a habit when spoken to of picking his fingers. Information to Mr. Supt. Harston, Burton- on- Trent, or Sergeant Harrison, Barton- under- Needwood, whs holds warrant.— Bow- street, April 6. Stolen about 9 p. m. 21st ultimo, from No. 30, Ea3t- street, Reading :— a pair of brown tweed Trousers ; a gold Albert Chain, chased, cable pattern ; a gold Locket, chased, oval shaped ; a silver Trinket, in shape of a kattle ; £ 3 5s. iu Gold and Silver ; and 2s. worth of Farthings. By HENRY MICKLES, a stableman, about 40 years of age, hair rather grey, clean shaved, dark ayes, pale face, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high { dressed in dark grey overooat, and supposed stolen trousera, and hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Chief Supt, Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading, who holds s warrant for his apprehension, ~ Bow- streett April 9. 2 POLICE GAZETTE. April 20 Wanted, charged on warrant with stealing £ 130 :— WILLIAM EMERY, 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, sharp features, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache; dressed when last seen in a long dark tweed overcoat, with three buttons on each cuff, and billycock hat; is a native of Bath, a coach painter by trade, and has worked for some of the principal coach builders in London. He absconded from Liverpool, on 1st instant, and is supposed to be accompanied by a woman, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, very pale complexion, but paints, ligat brown hair, with fringe on forehead, gay appearance ; dressed in dark stuff dress, large hat, trimmed with black beads, high button boots, and red stockings. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Williams, Detective Department, Liverpool.— Bow- strett, April 6. Stolen at Llandinabs, on 24th ultimo, supposed by tramps :— a pair of man's light Boots, with toe- caps, lined with black, cloth inside under lace holes, and half worn. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Smith, Ross, or to P. S. Price, Hare- wood End, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, April 6. Charged at Birmingham with embezzlement:— CHAS. OWENS PERRY, a timber merchant's clerk, 21 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin build, dark hair, no hair on face ; respectably dressed; is a professional bicycle rider, and frequents skating rinks and bicycle grounds. Information to Chief Constable Bond, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his arrest - Bow- street, April 6. Absconded on 31st ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:— WILLIAM HENY TODD, late of No. 19, Mossford- street, Burdett- road, Stepney, 23 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, dark hair, whiskers and mous- tache ( slight), smart appearance, a clerk ; may endeavour to leave the country for America. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, E. G.— Bow- street, April 6. Stolen from Lymehyrst House, Palatine- road, Didsbury, between 8 a. m. and 7 p. m. 31st ultimo :— 1 black ribbed cloth Overcoat, velvet collar, lined with black Italian cloth, covered buttons, pockets at each side, one inside left breast; a dark mixture diagonal cloth Overcoat, lined with black Italian cloth, covered buttons, pocket at each side and ticket pocket at right side with flaps, pocket outside left breast. Suspicion attached to a man about 30 yrs. of age, 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins. high, fresh complexion, light- coloured moustache, very small whis kers ; dressed in dark clothes, and black soft felt hat. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Bent, County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, April 6. Stolen on 29th ult., from Sewerby Terrace, Bridlington Quay:— a verga Watch, No. 500, maker's name Jno. Bailey, Horncastle. By a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, proportionate figure ; dressed in soft black raddy hat, dark coat, dark dirty trousers, and strong boots ; appeared to be a tramping navvy. Information to Mr. Supt. Winter- bottom, Bridlington.— Bow- st., April 4. ALFR. ED GREEN, advertized in Police Gazette, on 21st ultimo, is now committed to H. M. Prison, Spalding, for 2- cal. months h. l. :— his proper name is ALFRED SMITH, a native of Leicestershire, has a small scar on right thumb, mole on left side of neck, and lost 2 first upper teeth ; he was formerly a member of the Bradford Borough Police, also the Lancashire Constabulary. Was convicted in the name of Alfred Smith, at the County Magestrates Court, Liverpool, on 15th August, 1870, for stealing money, and sentenced to 4cal. month h. l. Information to Mr. Supt. Brown, County Police Station, Bourne.— Bow- street, April 4. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Melton Mowbray, during the absence of the inmates on 1st instant:— a silver Geneva Watch : an old- fashioned large sized silver Watch, with crack in dial; a lady's gold Watch, with gold face, and engine turned back, lever, No. 48926; 2 long old- fashioned gold watch Guards ; a gold Pin, enamelled with blue, forming the shoe on a horse's foot; a gold Pin, head set with enamel stone, a scroll; a gold Pin, set with coral; a lady's gold plated Loeket; a gold wedding Ring and Keeper; a gold Medallion in memory of late William Pitt, and G. Dwyer round medal. Supposed by a man, about 5 feet 8 inches high, about 35 yrs of age, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache, thick red neck, military appearance ; dressed in dark coat, hard felt hat, and black silk tie with pin in. A short dark woman was seen at same time, carrying a large basket with lid and two handles, wearing white apron, and dressed also in dark clothes. A short man of clerical appearance was seen in company with the above. £ 5 reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviotion of the thieves. Information to Mr. Supt. Goodman, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, April 4. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Derby, since 28th ult. : — a single- breasted black ribbed cloth Coat, four buttons down front, two pockets on hips outside, one outside left breast, and one inside right breast, body lined with black, Italian cloth, sleeves lined with light coloured material, bound with black braid ; a single breasted black ribbed cloth " Vest, bound with black braid ; a fancy coloured silk Neck- kerchief, ' Moon and Basford' in gilt letters inside; and a silver scarf Pin, shield pattern. Supposed by a man who lodged in the house on the night of 31st ultimo, and left about 9.30 a. m. on 1st instant, 27 or 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light hair, parted in centre and brushed at back, light whiskers and [ long light moustache ; dressed in black frock coat, light twcei trousers, black and white silk tie, coloured cotton shirt, dark brown woollen cuffs on wrists, lace- up boots, and Mack low [ crowned hat. Is of respectable appearance, and very talkative. Stated he was a commercial traveller. Information to Chief Constable Delacombe, Derby.— Bow street, April 4. Further information respecting CHARLES MOORE, a journeyman clock and watchmaker, advertised in Police Gazette of 12th January, 1881, charged on warrant with stealing a silver lever Watch, on 11th December, 1880, and found pledged in Shrewsbury; also since recovered where they were left by Moore, a pair of hand Vices ; a French File and other ; and a piece of silver Solder, the property of Mr. Roberts. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, Oswestry, Salop. — Bow- street, April 4. Stolen at Eccles between 8' 40 a. m. and 5 p. m., 28th ult.: a, gent's massive broad plain gold Ring, stamped inside ' 18 carat,' with large blood Btone ; a lady's black corded cloth Jacket, with pockets at sides, a row of ribbon in front, and a row on each sleeve ; a lady's long brown Ulster, buttons down the front, has a band at the back; a lady's Chemise, embroidered at the top, marked either' D. Hill' or' Dora Hill'; a pair of lady's calico Drawers ; a lady's calico Nightdress ; a pair of lady's white cotton Stocking ; a pair of blue and white stiiped Stockings; a pair of red and white striped Stockings; a hair Brush, makers name Titterton, London ; a white Comb ; a lady's japanned tin bonnet Box, containing a pair of lady's white kid Boots, a black cashmere Cape or Shawl, aad an electro- plated tea Spoon.
