Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Office, Preston.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen from the person of a woman, at 9.30 p. m, on 22nd instant, at Great Barr, 12 shillings in [ Silvor :— by a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 9 inches high, atoutish build, fresh complexion, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, supposed mavkijd with Bmall pox, rather broad features; dressed in light, coloured coat, tall silk hat, and carried over- coat on his arm.,, ^ formation to Mr. Supt. Given, Great Barr, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, March 25. it is particularly requested that when, owing either, to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other' wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons to whom they ara not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found about 3 p. m., 19th instant, the dead body of a young woman, in the Rochdale Canal, near Coalpit Lock, Miles Platting :— she is about 28 years of age, 6 feet long, dark hair, and round face ; dressed in old black pilot jacket, larg* black bone buttons, trimmed with satin, brown serge skirt, grey woollen petticoat, white cotton stockings, and old elastic- side doats; in her pocket was found a clasped leather purse, containing Is. 6| d., 2 small keys, and a small penknife. The body has the appearance of having been in the water several days, it now lies at the Navigation Inn, Newton, awaiting identification and inquest. Information to Mr. Supt. Bent, County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester. - Bow- street, March 25. FORGERY. Absconded from Ipswich on 29th ultimo, charged on a warrant with forgery :— WILLIAM SAMUEL ROBERT CATT, a coach builder, late of the firm Catt, Brothers, Ipswich and Colchester, 37 years of age, 5 ft. 11J inches high, without shoes, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, stout build; it is believed he will attempt to leave the country. Information to Chief Constable Russell, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- street, April 1. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on 8th ultimo, at Manchester :— a gold English lever Watch, maker Dilger, Bury, No. 36008, had attached a heavy gold Albert, curb pattern, to which was appended an oval shaped broken gold Seal. Information to the Detective Department, Town Hall, Manchester.— ? ow- st., April 1. Stolen from the person in Durham, on 26th instant:— patent lever silver Watch, No. 11922, maker Oliver Young, Sandhill, Newcastle- on- Tyne, cream coloured dial, steel pointers, dial flowered in centre. Information to Chief Con stable Duns, City Police Office, Durham.— Bout- it., Larch 30. Stolen from the person of Catherine Foley, a girl 10 years of age :— a Money Order for £ 4 13s., and 6s. 6d. in Money. 3y a woman, about 40 years of age, fresh complexion, medium height; dressed in black dress, black and drab shawl. The money order is payable at the Northwich Post Office. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Beut, County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, March 30. Stolen from the person at Sutton- Coldfield Railway Station, 09 18th instant:— a gold demi- hunting lever Watch, open, blue enamel figures, maker Moses, No. 12525, with gold BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary at Marton, near Pickering, from the shop of Elizabeth Fentriss, during the night of 29th ultimo: — about 2s. in copper Monies. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen'by means of housebreaking, at Aston, on 2Jth instant :— 1 gold lever Watch, gold face and figures, pjain cases, No. 5869 ; 1 gold Guard, small single link ; 1 fepf Chain, gold wire intermixed ; 2 pairs of silver Bugar Tons marked ' H. During the night of 26th instant, a lock- up shop, at Tilstock, Salop, was broken into and stolen therein :— 18 lb. of 3ugar, wrapped lip in pounds weight, in blue paper; 4 lb. of Tea ; 1 lb. of Tobacco, wrapped up in ounces and half- ounces, in light- coloured paper, bearing trade mark— lion's head, with name of ' Jack's Best Tobacco, Robinson and Son, Stockport,' printed thereon ; 10 lb. of Cheese ; and about 8 lb. of Bacon. Information to Mr. Supt. Haines, Whitchurch, Salop.- Bow- street, March 28. Stolen by means of burglary, on 25th instant, at Sandy- lane, Prees, Salop : 2 men's new Shirts, one blue check, the other led and blue stripes ; 2 pairs drab woollen Stockings, one pair white tops ; and a child's Money Box, ' E.' scratched in bottom with a pin, containing 2< 1. in Copper. Also, on same night:— 2 ladies' silver Pocket Knives, with pearl handks, nearly new. Information to Mr. Supt. Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Owen, Wem, Salop.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen by means of burglary, from Heaves, near Miln- thorpe, on the night of 20th instant:— a Dresden china Vase, about 12 inches high, white ground, with raised figure of man cutting a child with a scythe; 2 old china Vases, about 10 inches high, with a greenish yellow scroll pattern ; 2 old chii a Mugs, 5 inches high, 6 Cups and Saucers, old china ; a Cup and Saucer, has a hunting scene on ; 1 or 2 old china Basins, 2 old china Plates, an Indian Vase, old silver, about 6 or 8 inches high, made to hold incense ; a pair of alluminium gold Opera Glasses, in dark blue velvet case ; an ormulu InkstanJ, with a parrot sitting between the ink bottles ; a' nickel- silver photo Stand, with a parrot sitting on a pole ; a black leather Bag, about 18 inches long and 12 ins. deep, with silver clasp ; a double breasted blue pea Coat, dark lining, about half worn ; dividend warrant of the London and North Western Railway for £ S.; 18s. in Silver, and 15s. worth of penny Postage Stamps; 2 dead Rabbits; and 2 brown Hens. Supposed by 2 men, who were seen at Miln- thorpe, on the afternoon and evening of 20th, they booked from Milnthorpe Station, by the 7 a. m. train for Preston, on 21st, one between 30 and 40 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, brown hair ; dressed in a grey tweed suit, and hard black felt hat; the other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion ; dressed in dark clothes, wita cap on. Any one giving information that will lead to the recovery of the stolen property, and lead to the conviction of the thief or thieves, will receive £ 10 reward. Information to Mr. Shields, Kendal, or at the Countv Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle Cumberland.— Bow- street, March 25. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Broughton Gifford, during the night of 21st instant:— a rather small light brown gelding Donkey, about 3 years old, is a very fast trotter, but was un- broken and unshod. Information to Mr. Supt. White, Wilts Constabulary, Trowbridge.— Bow- street, March 28. Stolen from Bromley, Kent, on 22nd instant:— 3 Colts, two'geldings, 14 hands ( one chesnut, blaze down face, and fore fetlocks white, one iron grey), one black Mare, all long manes and tails, very tame, unbroken, and without shoes. By 2 men, o » « 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, short black whiskers, no moustache or beard ; dressed in plaid ccat, dark trousers. The other dark ; wore a fur turban ; appearance of horse copers. W nt in direction of London, at 8' 30 p. m. 22nd. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.—. — Metropolitan Police, March 23. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT^ Stolen at Eccles between 8' 40 a. m. and 5 p. m., 28th ult. • — a gent's massive broad plain gold Ring, stamped inside ' 18 carat,' with large blood stone ; a lady'H black corded c Jacket, with pockets at sides, a row of ribbon in front, ai row on each sleeve ; a lady's long brown Ulster, buttons down the front, has a band at the back; a lady's Chemise, embroidered at the top, marked either1 D. Hill' or' Dora Hill'; a pair of lady's calico Drawers ; a lady's calico Nightdress ; a pair of lady's white cotton Stocking ; a pair of blue anil white striped Stockings; a pair of red and white striped Stockings; a hair Brush, makers name Titterton, London; a white Comb ; a lady's japanned tin bonnet Box, containing a pair of lady's white kid Boots, a black cashmere Cape or Shaw), and an electro- plated tea Spoon. By a servant girl, a native of Scotland, and said she came from Edinburgh, 3 or 4 months ago along with her uncle and aunt to live at Bolton ; when ic Edinburgh she lived in Lancaster- street, Market- green, at the foot of Edinburgh Castle steps ; she is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, brown eyes, rather prominen' nose, fresh complexion, rosy face, and speaks with a slight Scotch accent. Supposed to have gone towards Bolton. Information to Mr. Supt. Bent, County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, April 1. 1 Charged at Burslem, with stealing a hen Fowl, recovered on 31st ultimo :— a man, supposed a collier, 20 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light complexion, hair and moustache, medium build, and has impediment] iu his spcecb. And a woman, 20 or 25 years of age, 5 feet high, very dark complexion, dark hair aud eyes, and medium build; dressed in . black straw hat, with black lace and fea'Jier in front, dark ey plaid shawl, stuff dress, and elastic- side boots. The man e a dark jacket, moleskin trousers, and clogs. Informa- *" r. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem.— Bow street, April 1. Charged on a warrant at Dudley with stealing 2 pairs of Shoes,- recovered :— FREDERICK DOE, 30 jears of age, 5 feet 61 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, has a slight brown moustache, and slight whiskers inclined to be sandy ; dressed in old black coat aud trousers, very dirty, billycock hat, and blucher boots, one of which is cut along the side. He has been in the 83rd Regiment of Foot, but is now following the trade of a travelling tinker, and carries his tools in a frail. He has a pedlars certificate, issued at Dudley in February last, and is believed to be in the neighbourhood of Old Hill and district. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcester" shire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, April 1. Charged with stealing half hundred weight of Lead from a ' new building in the West Borough, Maidstone, on 26th instant:— a bricklayer's labourer, 34 years of ago, 5 feet 7 inches high, light complexion, light ginger whiskers, medium figure ; late residence St. Peter's- street, Maidstone; dressed in white slop, cord trousers, and hard felt hat. He may be found seeking employment, or working nt some builders or railway station. He was employed at the erection of new buildings by Mr. Naylor, contractor, of Rochester. Infor- mation to Head Constable Gifford, Police Office, Maidstone, Kent.— Bow- street, March 30. Absconded from Newcastle- upon- Tyne, at l- 30 p. m. on 25th instant, charged on warrant with stealing .£ 66 10s. in Gold .-— ALFRED GOLDRUP, grocer's assistant, 17 or 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale complexion, has a consumptive appearance, near sighted, square shoulders, slender build, rolling gait; dressed in a short blue jacket, black corded cloth trousers, black low- crowned hard felt bat. Information to the Chief Constable, Central Police StatioD, Newcastle- upon- Tyne.— Bow- street, March 30. Stolen in Canute- road, Southampton, on 22nd and 23rd instant:— a gold Geneva Watch, gilt dome and dial, case much worn, and does not close very well; a gold Ring, four turquoise, one missing ; a gold Ring, pearl in centre and garnet each side, very much worn ; a lady's gold dress Ring, four green stonea, one missing ; a silver Brooch, large yellow stene ( cairngorm) in centre, surrounded with grey cornelians; a pair of gold snap Ear- rings ; a pair of gold Ear- drops, with a cross swinging in centre ; and 17s. in Money in a small cardboard box. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, long thin face, dark complexion, dark hair ( rather long), dark heavy moustache ; dressed in a black cloth coat and vest, light trousers, and round hard black felt hat; carried small black bag, walking stick and umbrella ; had the appearance of a foreigner. Information to Head Constable Breary, Southampton.— Bow- street, March 30. Stolen from an Hotel in Durham, on 25th instant:— a single breasted plain blue clotli top Coat, man's size, set with black bone buttons, two pockets on hips outside, and ticket pocket, lined with grey woollen lining, supposed red stripe running through, has ' Johnston and Coxon' on hanger ; also 3i yards ( double width) brown twoed Cloth, has a lighten stripe running through it. By a man, known by the name of Joe, supposed to be a groom or stableman, has been working for a cab proprietor, in Durham, for about a week, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or'. 8 inches high, dark hair, cut very short, complexion, black whiskers, sluved at chin, no moustache, one or two teeth out of front of upper jaw, native of Lincoln- shire, and very Ulkativa ; dressed in a dark shooting coat, vest and trousers of same, or siuiil >. r material, lace bo^ ts, very- much worn, and hard round black felt hat. Information to 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. April 20 Chief Constable Due*, City Police Office, Durham.— Bow- street, March 30. Further description of CHARLES ROGERS, alias HOSE, alias MAT, advertised in Police Gazette of 28th Feb. : — he is 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair and eyes, fresh complexion, slightly pock pitted on nose ; supposed diessed in Oxford tweed mixture straight back jacket, brown striped vest, dark mixture tweed trousers, black tie, and low bowler hat. Charged on a warrant with stealing £ 8 odd in Silver, at Maiden Newton, on February 18th; he is a hawker of pipes, and obtained a pedlars certificate at Poole, on 19th February, in the name of Charles Rogers, and endorsed in the Metropolitan Police District, on 22nd Feb. He is a deaerter from the Dorset Militia, and advertized in the Police Gazette of 28th instant, in the name of Charles May. Information to Mr. Supt. Gale, County Police Station, Dorchester, Doieet.— Bow- street, March 30. Stolen ; in Nottingham, on 24th instanta lady's large gold Locket, set with diamonds, turquoise and pearls, forming a lily, photo of a lady and gentleman inside ; a lady's gold Neck Chain, small link pattern, a gold Medal attached ; a silver Watch, gold plated Albert attached, a long gold- plated Guard, with Locket attached, photograph of a lady inside; a gold plated Locket, with a photograph of a lady inside. Supposed by a man who lodged at the house, and who left about 4 p. m. same day, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, Roman nose, slight sandy whiskers on side of face; dressed in shabby dark overcoat, and shabby silk hat, carried a rug and a black bag. Infor- mation at the Detective Department, Nottingham— Bow- str., March 28. Stolen from an hotel in Oxford, since 10th instant:— a gold turquoise scarf Pin, 11 stones ; a plain gold plated Pin ; a gold cable Chain ; a set of turquoise Studs ; a set of plain gold Studs. From No. 1 St. Aldgate- street, during the forenoon of 25th instant :— a silver lever Watch, maker Tobias, No. 2235, anchor escapement, jewelled in 13 holes, engraved on inside ease ; and an aluminium Albert, with silver pencil Case in shape of cross. From bedrooms in an hotel, between 12 noon and 3 p. m. same day :— a lady's long gold Neckchain, small close pattern ; an old silver Geneva Watch, chased silver dial, small dent near XI. Supposed by a man who was found about ll' 30a. m. same day in the bedroom of a University lodging house in St. Aldgate- street, and was subsequently seen to join another man, first, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather dark complexion, thin face, no whiskers, dark mous- moustache, very small dark eyes ; dressed in grey dust coat, trousers nearly same colour, black diagonal cloth undercoat buttoned up to throat, red collar tie, round felt hat; of gentlemanly appearance. The second younger, about same height, smaller made man ; dressed in dark coloured over- coat, supposed Chesterfield, buttoned up front, grey trousers, and similar hat. Information to Mr. Supt. H « ad, Oxfoid.— Brno- street, Mar. 28. Stolen from the Ship Inn, at Horncastle, on 18th inst. :— a very dark coloured old Violin, the screws are teeth marked^ Supposed by a tramping fiddler, about 30 years of age^ bo'ut 5 feet 6 or 7 inehes high, slender build, thiu red blstcfifTacfi and nose, with a little hair on his chin; dressed in along dark coat, old dark trousers, repaired at knees, and old round dark billycock hat. Has a violin of a much lighter colour than the stolen one. Information to Mr. Supt. Stevenitt, Horncastle, Lincolnshire,— Bow- street, Marti 28. Charged with stealing a white wsist Belt, at Sleaford the property of the 2nd Battalion Rifle Volunteers, stamped • with bugle and 2 Bn. Lincolnshire Volunteers :— a navvy about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, inclined to curl a little at ends, very small whiskers on sides of face, and dark complexion ; dressed in black coat, cord or fustian trousers, light dirty cap, with peak, and wearing a pair of clogs; has been working on the new railway, at Slea- ford, is a native of Boston has been in the Union there during the winter, and came out 3 weeks ago, he left Sleaford on morning of 25th, said he was going to Lincoln to get work as a striker at the foundry. Information to Mr. Supt. Richdale, Sleaford.— Bow- street, March 28. Absconded from Caversham, Oxon, on 18th instant, charged on warrant with embezzlement :— J A MES BEVEL, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, small light whiskers, light brown short cut hair, bloated face, and Roman nose; dressed in short old pilot coat, old coloured cloth trousers, tight at knees, and hard round hat; talks quickly ; has the appearance of a stableman, and generally frequents public- houses. Information to Mr. Supt. Coates, folice Station, Henley- on- Thames, Oxfordshire.— Bow- strtet, March 28. Stolen from a shop at a boat dock, at Daw End, near Rushall, between 23rd and 24th instant:— a lock Saw, 20 inches long, nearly new ; a firmen Chisel; a socket Chitel with handle split; a 1- inch plain Chisel; a Square ; a Spoke- shave ; 4 brass Plates, oblong shape, two 11 inches by 9 inehes, and two 6 inches by 9 inches. Supposed by a tramping boat builder, 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, light complexion, sandy haii, large sandy whiskers, and long thin face; dressed in dirty moleskin jacket and trousers, and soft billy hat. Stated he has a cousin a boat builder at Porter's- bridge, near Bilston. Information to Mr. Bupt. Hackney, Police Office, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Arnold, Police Office, Rushall, near Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow street, March 25. evil dispoied per ion or peffcons plaoed 8 large stones between the points at Brinks Siding, on the Lanoashire Union Railway, at Aberdeen, in the township of Blackrod, they had been taken from the boundary wall of the railway. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, County Police Office, Bolton.— Bow- sirett, March 25. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Wanted on warrant, charged with obtaining by false pretences 1 large Bible, gilt edges and clasps; 1 Volume ' Life of Christ,' gilt edges; 1 Volume, ' Bunyan's Works,' gilt edges; 2 Volumes, ' Lexicon,' half bound, gilt edges ; 2 Volumes, ' Burn's Works,' half bound, gilt edges ; 4 Plates, two steel and two coloured; 1 black leather Bag, canvassing, with two handles. The above Goods are perfectly new :— WILLIAM DALE?, or DALES BARRINGTON, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, prominent fore- head, reddish uliort whiskers, shaven chin, no moustache, slender build ; supposed native of Yorkshire ; dressed in black diagonal cloth overcoat, black cloth frock coat, both very shabby and worn, dark grey tweed trousers, and black felt hat. He represented that he was a pointsman on the railway, and resided at 29, New Grey Street, Sunderland. It has been ascertained that he does not work on the railway, that he came from North Stockton about the 8tli or 9th ultimo, lodged at the address he gave a fortnight, and then absconded. He produced two forged characters, purporting to come from Sunderland tradesmen, when ke obtained the Book, & c. on 25th ultimo. Information to the Chief Con- stable, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- st., April 1. Charged with obtaining, by false pretences, a silver lever Watch, No. 98,796, maker Stevenson, Hanley :— PHILLIP LLOYD, alias GEORGE KING, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eye » , light brown hair, stoutish build, dark moustashe; had on brown suit, rather shabby, blue pilot cloth overcoat, velvet collar, round tommy hat, bright kismett tie, with brass fastener on| it.
