CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the pW , and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged uith Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6575 MONDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1881 Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of " the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, tagether with ' the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for inseition. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ait betters addressed to the Editor IMUKt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militta, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in tie POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. { 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by. the persons forwarding them. They Bhould contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the oilender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, Lendon." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. Information to Mr. Supt. Jervis, County Police Office, Orms- kirk, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 21. MURDER AID MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Charged with a murderous assault on gamekeepers, on the Moor Estate, Clifford, near Hay, on the night of 10th instant, ( one of the keepers was shot, and is not likely to recover) :—• THOMAS PARRY, of Hay, labourer, 35 years of age, .5 feet G or 7 inches higb, fresh complexion, long dark hair, turniDg grey, long shaggy whiskers, round face, and small moustache ; dressvd in a long dark brown coat, generally buttoned up, large inside pockets, cord trousers, dark grey or black billycock hat, wore one lace- up boot, nearly new, and one old boot, cut open in front; hangs his head down when waiving, to avoid observation, supposed to have fresh scars about his head and face, and blood on his clothes. And a man, name unknown, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, brown hair, full face, rather stout built, small sandy whiskers on side of face, anil moustache ; dressed as a navvy, monkey jacket, with large pockets, moleskin waistcoat, with large horn buttons, cord trousers, tied up at knees, heavy navvy boots, soft billycock hat. Parry, of whom a photo can be had, will endeavour to emigrate. Information to Mr. Supt. Shead, Weobley, or to Sergeant Ovens, Police Station, Whitney, Herefordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Feb. 16. Charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding with two others ( in custody), Edward Bazeden, at Sandwich, Kent, on I Oth inst.:— HENRY KNOTT, alias WROTHAM, native of Wiugham, Kent, 47 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, ronian nose, full whiskers cut rather short; has lately been confined in H. M. Prison at Canterbury, on a charge of drunkenness ; dressed in a brown straw hat, black monkey jacket; walks in a slovenly manner, is in the habit of working with threshing machines, and at times sells water cresses. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Page, Guildhall, Sandwich, Kent.— Bow- street. February 16. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen in Sheffield, by means of burglary, on 19th inst. : — a lady's silver lever Watch, common Guard attached : a lady's gold Necklet and Lccket, with photo' of a lady inside, aud has the glass broken ; a lady's gold plated Necklet, with Cross and Chain, cross has a pencil in ; a lady's gold dress Ring, had five stones in, one is now lost, engraved inside ' T. S. C. to J. S., August 11th, 1874'; a lady's gold plated Ring, has been repaired ; a silver oval Brooch, Maltese cross, set with Scotch pebbles ; two ladies blask cloth Jackets, half worn, plain make ; two pairs ladies old kid Gloves; a pair lady's elastic- sided Boots, half worn ; a pair man's blucher Boots, have been repaired ; a man's rough dark blue cloth Overcoat, velvet collar, purple check lining, three pockets outside, and one inside left breast, much worn ; and a small wood Time- piece. Stolen by means of burglary, at Cludgington, on the night of 16th instant:— a silver snuff Box, lined inside with gold, and shape of a boat, narrow at each end. Information to D. C. C. Ivins, Wellington.— Bow- street, February 18. Stolen between 2 and 11 p. m., on 12th instant, by means of housebreaking at Erdington :— 1 old gold Watch, spring and glass broken ; 1 gold Watch, with little hand off; 2 pairs of silver Bracelets ; 2 do. of gold Ear- rings ; 1 do. of coral Ear- rings. Also stolen between 12 midnight and 8 a. m., 12th instant, by means of housebreaking at Saltley :— 1 round metal Clock, case painted green ; 1 lady's black cloth Jacket, bugle trimmings ; 1 do. brown velveteen, with black sleeves; 1 dozen diaper Pinafores; 1 dozen. Holland do. ; 8 children's white calico Shirts. Information to Mr. Supt. Gallaway, Constabulary Office, Aston Park, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, February 16. Stolen by means of burglary, between 10 p. m., 11th, and 5 a. m., 12t. h instant, at Worthenbury, Flintshire :•— a low crowned flat topped hard felt Hat, size (>'•; a red Handker- chief ; and about 2 lb. of Bacon. Supposed by tramps. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Bolton, Hanmer, Whitchurch, Salop. — Bow- street, February 16. Stolen by means of burglary, during the night of 12 th instaut. at Streatley :— 12 or 14 pairs of men's Trousers, one pair grey cloth, one pair with black stripe down side, three or { our pairs dark plaid, the others of a dark colour, different nittarns ; 4 or 5 men's Jackets, dark plaid ; several Vests, all button up to the throat, two light colour, the others dark brown ; a bundle of cotton Handkerchiefs, about 4 doz. ; 5 pairs of long black leather Gaiters ; a bundle of tan leather Gaiters, some short and some long ; a silver Thimble ; about 30s. iu Coppers, 2s. in Silver, and a few old silver Coins. By 2 men, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather dark complexion, very slight whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, aud black billycock hat. The other about the same age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache, very slight; dressed iu dark coat and vest, light trousers, and black billycock hat. They are both of very slight figure, and the clothes they are wearing are part of the stolen property, as they left their old clothes behind. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Pocock, County Police Station, Reading, Berks.— Bow- St., February 16. Stolen by means of burglary, at, West Kirby, during the night of 14th instant :— a silver Trowel, marked on blade ' Samuel Crabtree, Thorn Housj, Bacup, 1868,' had an ivory handel. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead.— Bow- street, February 16. Stolen by means of burglary, from Amberley House, Gravelly- hill, Erdington, between midnight aud 5 a. m., 15th iustant :— an Overcoat, dark brown, pockets on each side, breast pocket on outside, dark boue buttons; a boy's Overcoat, dark blue, pockets ou each side, dark bone buttons, makers name ' Curtis aud Curtis' on collar; a lady's black cloth Jacket, double- breasted, one row of buttons, plain collar ; a lady's Ulster, navy blue, pockets on each side, bone buttons; a lady's Ulster, light brown, pockets on each side, bone buttons ; a pair of strong lace- up boots, toe capped, eye- let holes, brass hooks on top, round headed nails, fitters on heels ; 2 pairs of lady's morocco Boots, lace- up, full size, nearly new. Absconded from Stoke Reformatory, on 15th instant, charged with stealing a Pony and Trap ( recovered) :— a Boy. 16 years of age, 4 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, mole back of left shoulder; native of Birmingham ; dressed in cord trousers and vest, tweed jacket, blue overcoat, nailed boots, and turban cap. £ l rewardj will be given by Mr. J. Stolen from person at the Waterloo Coursing Meeting :— A gold open face repeating Watch, engine- turned case, white enamel dial, maker ' Payre, New Bond- Btreet, London,' engraved on dome, No. 4845. A gold centre seconds 4 pair extra composition balance Watch, No. 18237, maker ' John Bold.' A reward of £ 5 will be given on its restoration and conviction of offender. A gentleman's gold English Lever Watch, white dial and centre seconds, maker ' John Bold, St. Ann's- street, Liver- pool. A gold Watch, foreign make, white dial, steel hands, seconds hand missing, double case, flowered, No. commencing 14 .. ( four figures in number). HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on 17th instant,, from a field at Kibworth- Har- court, Leicestershire :— a black half- bred cart Mare, 5 years old, 15— 3 or 16 hands high, notch tail, hind legs have been clipped and blistered, has a little white on one hind heel, and is in good ( rough) condition. TwO men with the Mare have been traced into Leicester. Information to Mr. Supt. Holloway, Constabulary Office, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street? February 21. Stolen froa field at Dartford, on night of 19th instant, and slaughtered, a Kent teg Sheep, skin, head and entrails left behind, supposed to have gone on board a barge in the river Thames. Information to Mr. Supt. Fread, Kent Constabu- lary, Dartford,— Bow- st, February 21. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen at Stookport, about 3 pm. on 15th instant:— a gentleman's black worsted cloth Coat, two pockets inside lain*, one outside left breast, small ticket pocket right side, one in- side left breast, lined with black Italian cloth, puce coloured lining in sleeves, 3 cloth covered flat buttons down front, had the name ' Lallyment' on tab of collar; a gent's Vest to match, three pockets outside, both part worn ; a youth's black diagonal cloth Coat, similar make as the one named above ; a do. Vest to match, both far worn ; a pair of men's block front Boots, size 6, has been repaired in several places on soles ; a brass albert Guard, long links, had a revolving stone pendant- attached, with white stone each side : a gentleman's silk Hand- kerchief, blue centre, and yellow border, nearly new; and Is. lid. in Money. By a man and woman, who took lodgings the same day, and absconded with the property, during the owner's absence ; the man is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, slight whiskers at sides ; had a knitted scarf rouud his neck, of various colours, had a large opera glass in his possession ; the worn? A is about 25 Te:;.;' s of age, very fresh complexion, light h » ir, stout build ; wears a tweed ulster, with hoyd behind, aad a tweed cloth hat to mateh ulster, with two feathers in, had two rings on third finger, left hand, one a wedding, the other a pearl in centre, the woman appears very respectable, aud the man may be wearing portion of the stolen property, as he left his old ones behind. Absconded from Portsmouth, on 11th instant, charged with embezzlement :— THOMAS ELLIOTT, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches higb, dark hair, thin, dark whiskers and moustache, heavy eyebrows, dark complexion, medium build,. swaggering walk ; dressed iu black felt hat, black walking coat, torn uuder oue arm, dark trousers, elastic- side boots, and white shirt: he is a brewer's drayman, and has kept a beer house, is believed to have friends at Godstone, Surrey ; Arundel, Sussex ; and Marnhull, Dorset. Informa- tion to Chief Constable Cosser, Central Police Station, Ports- mouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 21. 8tolen on 13th instant, at Kirby Hill, a pair of water- tight Boots, recovered :— by a man about 45 years " of age, 5 It. inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache, slender figure, high cheek bones; dressed iu black coat, square laps, white jacket underneath, supposed moleskin trousers, soft black felt hat, old lace- up boots, stated h^ cauie from Leeds. Information to Depnt. v Chief Constable Walmsley, N. R Constabulary, Northallerton, or to Acting Inspector Wilkinson, Constabulary Office, Wath, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, Feb. 21. Stolen from Market Harborough, between 4' 30 and 7 p. m. on 19th instant :— 2 photographic Leases, one half- plate, No. 11231, French make, one f- plate, both brass cappeed, and ' C. Jacomb' in lead pencil inside each cap. Supposed by a mac, about 35 years of ago, 5 feet 7 inches high, rather stout, dark complexiou, hair, and moustache, believed no whisker*, rather shabby appearance, face is rather rough, and he is well spoken ; dressed iu dark coat, round d off at laps,, pockets at sides and outside pocket, at, left breast, mixture tweed trousers very much worn, and patched iu crutch with dark cloth, blucher boots, black necktie, white shirt front, low hard felt narrow- brimmed hat, dark woollen socks, and walks a little lame from boil on ankle. Information to Mr. Supt. Holloway, Constabulary Office. Market Harborough, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, February 21. Absconded from Aberystwith, Cardiganshire, on 15th instant, charged ou warrant with stealing an Umbrella, at Staylittle, Llanfihangel, Genaurglyn, on 14th instant:— WILLIAM OWEN, alias WILL. RHYS, Machynlleth, 38 years of age, 5' feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, little or no whiskers, and slight mous- tache, marked with the letter ' D.' on leit breast; dressed in blue cloth monkey jacket, corduroy trousers, fitting tight about the legs, and brown cloth cap, with, psak and lappets, tied with strings in front. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Lloyd, Aberystwith, — Bow- sirmi, Feb. 21. Further particulars respecting CHARLES SCOLTOCK, or SCOTTOCK, advertised iu Police Gazette of 27th Oct., 1880. In December last he was lodging with a man named Evans, at Little Holton, near Bolton where it is believed he was apprehended, he may now be in some gaol". Informatiou to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownills, near Walsall.— Bow- streat, February 18. Charged with a jewel robbery at Weymouth :— 2 men 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. February 21 one about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair and moustache, no whiskers, rouud face, dark complexion, full dark eyes, medium build, shuts left eye when talking, deficient of tooth on top jaw left side, speaks with a North Country accent, and has an impediment in spaech when talk- ing fast ; dressed in a black suit of clothes, with a reefing jacket, and rather short black overcoat, brown bowler hat, had also a black bowler in his possession, button boots, carried a crooked handled ash stick, silver on end of handle, and had a dagger on person. The other 21 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair, small dark moustache, no whiskers, dark complexion, slight build ; dressed in black coat and vest, dark trousers and reefing jacket, dark brown overcoat, brown bowler, hat, button- up boots, had a black bowler and a pair of patent shoes in his possession ;- wore a gold watch, and gold Albert chain with long links, also a gold ring, with diamond, carried a black walking stick, with curved handle and two silver ferules on top and bottom. These men had with them a black leather bag and a medium sized brown leather portmanteau, are well dressed, of good address and smart appearance. They left by the 10 p. m., train for Southampton Docks, where they took tickets for " Waterloo on same day as - robbery. Information to Mr. Supt. Vickery, Weymouth, Dorsat.— Bow- street, February 18. Charged with stealing, OE 12th instant, about 243 lb. weight of Bacon, at Chertsey MATHIAS HERRING, alias MAT, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, no whiskers or moustache, broad heavy features, iarge mouth, short thick neck, is a costermonger and an associate of thieves and poachers , well known at Kingston- on- Thames, Hounslow, Guildford, Godalming, & c. ; dressed in black cloth trousers, long dark overcoat, hard black felt hat, with flat crown. HENRY HOWARD, alias ROUNDHEEL, about 24 yrs. of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, cut very short, no whiskers or moustache, limps when walking ; dressed in cord trousers, light doeskin coat, and hard felt hat. And JOSEPH HOWARD, alias COCKTAIL, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light hair, cut very short, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in moleskin trousers and vest, with pearl buttons, blue pilot jacket, an imitation seal- skin cap. The two last naired are notorious poachers. Information to Mr. Supt. Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, February 18. Stolen at Peplow, between 9 a. m. and 1 p. m. on 16th instant:— a light plaid cloth Jacket, a pair of light cloth Trousers, a pair of light cord Trousers, a white slop Jacket, two white Shirts, four bundle Handkerchiefs, two Scarfs, one pair Braces, a pair of Stockings, a pair of knitted Caffs, two Hats, one Umbrella, a white Collar, four Shift Pieces, one calico Piece, two reels of Cotton, and a card of shirt Buttons ( recovered). By a man, 30 or 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, long thin face, sandy whiskers, moustache'and hair ( cut short) ; dressed in black cloth suit. Left his hat in a beerhouse at Wellington, Salop. Information to Mr. Supt. Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Owen, Wem, Salop.— Bow- st., Feb. 18. Charged in Sheffield, on warrant with embezzlement:— GEORGE DUCKWORTHS, a paper merchant, about 44 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, tender eyes, iron grey hair, sandy moustache, whiskers and beard, large . feet; he is generally dressed in a lighlpiovercoat, blue trousers, and small felt hat; he is well known at Leeds, where he formerly carried on buisnesa as a paper merchant. Information to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield. — Bcne- , February 18. Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bm- street, February 18, Stolen at Weymouth, between 6 and 7 p. m., on 14th inst. : — a case of mourning Rings, one set with 3 small diamonds, the others set with pearls, and some with places for hair ; a gent's plain gold Ring, with pink stone ; 3 pairs of gold Ear- rings, one pair in shape of acorns, one pair with pearls in centre, one pair with a ball and leaf around it; about 30 gent's 9- carat gold Rings; a gold keyless Watch, No. 14, believed to have the letters 1 S. F. & Co.' on it; a new silver Watch, No. 18, with a Thermometer on dial; a second hand gold Watch ; a pej> j Brooch, gold mountings ; a set of gent's gold sleeve Links. '"" By a man, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather stoutly built, round face, small dark moustache ; dressed in dark coat, and dark bowler hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Vickery, Weymouth, Dorset. — Bow- street, February 16. ' Stolen on 9th instant, about 5 a. m., at Rushton, near Wellington, Salop :— a ham of Bacon, recovered in Shre wsbury. By a man, from 20 to 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, round features, fresh complexion, small light brown whiskers, shaved under chin; dressed in small soft billycock hat, very dark grey overcoat, double- breasted, and reaching to his knees, supposed dark cloth trousers, and strong lace- up boots. Supposed to be the same man charged with horse stealing at Burlton, Salop, on 15th November li; st. Informa- tion to Mr. Chief Supt. lvins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, February 16. Charged with stealing Tools and a Coat, at Piickwillow near Ely ( which are recovered) :— a tramping mill stone dresser, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, no beard or whiskers, thin palid face; dressed in cap, with cheese cutter peak, broken across, brown coat, dark trousers, thin spare figure, walked as though foot sore. Last heard of near Cbatteres, on 10th instant. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Smith, Ely, Cambs.— Bow- street, February 16. Absconded from Summertown, near Oxford, on 10th instant, charged with stealing a meerschaum Pipe ; a gilt Albert Chain ; and a silver Ring :— CHARLES HUTT, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, very dark complexion, dark hair, thick lips; dressed in daik plaid coat and vest, brown cloth trousers, black hard hat, and lace- up boots. In- formation to D. C. C. Fernsby, or Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bovi- street, Feb. 16. Charged on warrant for embezzlement, at Burslem WILLIAM SHIRLEY, 44 years of age, 5 feet 7J inches high, light hair, small side whiskers, no moustache, dark eyes, ruddy face, stout build ; frequents hotels, and talks freely when in drink ; usually wears a respectable looking light overcoat, and Mulier hat. A brewers traveller and agent. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, February 16. C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. Feb. 18. W.— Metropolitan Police, Charged on warrant with obtaining, by false pretences, at Chippenham, on 16th instant:— a light tweed Overcoat, a do. soft tweed do., a do. short tweed do., a do. dark brown do., all had a tab on collar, with ' H. I. Nicoll, Regent- street, London,' stamped on it; a suit of brown Scotch tweed; a pair of light brown cloth Trousers ; a light brown single- breasted Vest; a black cloth diagonal single- breasted cloth Coat, and a Vest of same material, both bound ; a blue and black check silk handkerchief. By FRANK BEAUMONT, about 18 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, rather sallow complexion, very thin features and stature, no whiskers, very slight moustache ; has a mole or mark about the size of a shilling on the left side of neck ; was dressed in black cloth diagonal coat, light trousers, hard black bowler ' hat, had a shabby- genteel appearance. Left Chippenham about 2 p. m. on 16th instant. Information to Mr. Supt.
