The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are Icncnvn but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every ' particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. C574 FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1881 ISetlce.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Sijnature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, , of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed'to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made, The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ,- sf Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Eorms 88 and 8Sa, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state elearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the propeity, without • the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and. POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, Sea., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Charged with a murderous assault on gamekeepers, on • the Moor Estate, Clifford, near Bay, on the night of 10th instant, ( one of the keepers was shot, and is not likely to recover) ;— THOMAS PARRY, of Hay, labourer, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, long dark hail', turning grey, long shaggy whiskers, round face, and small moustache ; dressed in a long dark brown coat, generally ' buttoned up, large inside pockets, coicl trousers, dark grey or black billycock hat, wore one lace- up boot, nearly new, and one old boot, cut open in front; bangs his head down when walking, to avoid observation, supposed to have fresh scars about his head and face, and blood on his clothes. And a man, name unknown, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, brown hair, full face, rather stout built, small sandy whiskers on side of face, and moustache ; dressed as a navvy, monkey jacket, with large pockets, moleskin waistcoat, with large horn buttons, cord trousers, tied up at knees, heavy navvy boots, soft billycock bat. Parry, of whom a photo can be had, will endeavour to emigrate. Information to Mr. Supt. Shead, Weobley, or to Sergeant Ovens, Police Station, Whitney, Herefordshire, who • holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Feb. 1G. Charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding with two others ( in custody), Edward Bazeden, at Sandwich, Kent, on iOth inst.:— HENRY KNOTT, alias WROTHAM, native of Wingham, Kent, 47 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, ronian nose, full whiskers cut ratter short; has lately been confined in H. M. Prison at ' Canterbury, on a charge of drunkenness ; dressed in a brown straw hat, black monkey jacket ; walks in a slovenly maimer, is in the habit of working with threshing machines, and at times sells water cresses. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Page, Guildhall, Sandwich, Kent.— Bow- street, February 16. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen at Ayr, on the evening of 8th instant, from the person :— a silver lever Watch, No. 7375, in a German silver case ; a steel Albert Chain ; and six £ 5 Notes, and four ,£ 1 Notes, supposed of the Commercial Bank. Information to Mr. Supt. M'Donald, Police Chambers, Ayr .- Bow- street, February 14. gold, and shape of a boat, narrow at each end. Information to D. C. C. Ivins, Wellington.— Bow- street, Februarv 18. Stolen between 2 and 11 p. m , on 12th instant, by means of housebreaking at Erdington :— 1 old gold Watch, spring and glass broken ; 1 gold Watch, with little hand off; 2 pairs of silver Bracelets ; 2 do. of gold Ear- rings ; 1 do. of coral Ear- rings. Also stolen between 12 midnight and 8 a. m., 12th instant, by means of housebreaking at Saltley:— 1 round metal Clock, case painted green ; 1 lady's black cloth Jacket, bugle trimmings ; 1 do. brown velveteen, with black sleeves; 1 dozen diaper Pinafores; 1 dozen Holland do. ; 8 children's white calico Shirts. Information to Mr. Supt. Gallaway, Constabulary Office, Aston Park, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, February 16. Stolen by means of burglary, between 10 p. m , 11th, and 5 a. m., 12th instant, at Worthenbury, Flintshire :—- a low crc wned fiat topped hard felt Hat, size 61; a red Handker- chief; and abou t 2 lb. of Bacon. Supposed by tramps. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Bolton, Hannier, Whitchurch, 3, v! op. — Bow- street, February 16. Stolen by means of burglary, during the night of 12th instant, at Streatley :— 12 or 14 pairs of men's Trousers, one pair grey cloth, one pair with black strips down side, three or four pairs dark plaid, the others of a dark colour, different patterns ; 4 or 5 men's Jackets, dark plaid ; several Vests, all button up to the throat, two light colour, the others dark brown ; a bundle of cotton Handkerchiefs, about 4 doz. ; 5 pail's of long black leather Gaiters ; a bundle of tan leather Gaiters, some short and some long ; a silver Thimble ; about 30s. in Coppers, 2.--. in Silver, aud a few old silver Coins. By 2 men, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather dark complexion, very slight whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and black billycock hat. The other about the same age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark whiskers and moustache, very slight; dressed in dark coat and vest, light trousers, aud black billycock hat. They are both of very slight figure, and the clothes they are wearing are part of the stolen property, as they left their old clothes behind. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Pocock, County Police Station, Reading, Berks.— Bovi- st., February 16. Stolen by means of burglary, at West Kirby, during the night of 14th instant :— a silver Trowel, marked on blade ' Samuel Crabtree, Thorn House, Bacup, 1868,' had an ivory handel. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead.— Bow- street, February 16. Stolen by means of burglary, from Amberley House, Gravelly- hill, Erdington, between midnight aud 5 a. m., 15th instant :— an Overcoat, dark brown, pockets on each side, breast pocket on outside, dark bone buttons; a boy's Overcoat, dark blue, pockets on each side, dark bone buttons, makers name ' Curtis and Curtis' on collar ; a lady's black cloth Jacket, double- breasted, one row of buttons, plain collar ; a lady's Ulster, navy blue, pockets on each side, bone buttons ; a lady's Ulster, light brown, pockets on each side, bone buttons ; a pair of strong lace- up boots, toe capped, eye- let holes, brass hooks on top, round headed nails, fitters on heels ; 2 pairs of lady's morocco Boots, lace- up, full size, nearly new. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Whitchurch, Salop, on the night of 12th instant :— two Half- crovrtia, and 3: 1. in Coppers ; a short brass watch Guard, with gold plated Locket attached ; and about 2 lb. weight of Cheese. Information to Mr. Supt. Haines, Whitchurch, Salop.— Bow- street, Feb. 14. Stolen by means of burglary on 11th instant:— a blue and white striped Bed- tick, a patch on one corner ; two Sheets, one of which has a hole burnt in ; three pillow Slips ; and a bolster ditto ; two pairs lady's Drawers ; a Chemise ; a Night- gown ; a patchwork Quilt, large pattern, red and green in one corner ; a blue and white check Shirt ; a red and white Table- cloth ; five Towels ; eight Aprons ; two Hand- kerchiefs; three bed Valances ; a window ditto, white and brown ; a pair blue aud white striped Stockings ; a pair of gent's elastic- sided Boots; and a clothes Basket. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Osweli, Stafford.— Bou- street, Februarv 14. Stolen on night'of [ 10th instant, from the Crook Farm, Great Barr :— a yearling black faced fat Sheep, Shropshire breed, pitch mark ' ( S)' on left side not very distinct. £ 2 2s. reward will be paid by the Secretary of the Great Barr and Perry Barr Association for the Prosecution of Felons on recovery of property and conviction of offender or offenders. Stolen by means of burglary, at Cludgington, on the night of 16th instanta silver snuff Box, lined inside with AND CATTLE STEALING. Absconded from Stoke Reformatory, on 15th instant, charged with stealing a Pony and Trap ( recovered) ;— a Boy, 16 years of ago, 4 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, mole back of left shoulder; native of Birminghsm ; dressed in cord trousers and vest, tweed jacket, blue overcoat, nailed boots, and turban cap. ,£ 1 reward] will be given by Mr. J. Mefilchrist, Stoke Reformatory, for his apprehension. Information to Mr. Supt. Jeffrey, Police Station, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, Feb. 18. The Mare and Foal, described in Police Gazette of 14th instant as having been stolen at Little Hulton, have been found and restored to the owner.— Bow- street, Februan/ 18. Stolen from Houghall Farm :— two fat Sheep, marked ' F ' with tar on near side ; one has been missing | since 11th instant, the other since loth instant. Information to Mr. Supt. Dunn, County Police Office, Durham. — Bow- street, February 16. Found on 12th December last, at Acton Trussell, near Stafford, supposed stolen:— 6 yearling Sheep, in good LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Further particulars respecting CHARLES SCOLTOCK, or SCOTTOCK, advertised in Police Gazette of 27th Oct., 1880. In December last he- was lodging with a man named Evans, at Little Holton, near Bolton where it is believed lie was apprehended, he may now be in some gaol. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownills, near Walsall.— Bow- street, February 18. JOHN FIELDER, advertised in Police Gazette of 14th instant, has been apprehended at Portsmouth.— Bow- street, February 18. Charged with a jewel robbery at Weymouth :— 2 men one about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair and moustache, no whiskers, rouud face, dark complexion, full dark eyes, medium build, shuts left eye when talking, deficient of tooth on top jaw left side, speaks with a North Country accent, and has an impediment in speech when talk- ing fast ; dressed in a black suit of clothes, with a reefing jacket, aud rather short black overcoat, brown bowler hat, had also a black bowler in his posse sion, button boots, - A ie : a crooked handled ash stick, silver on end of handle, atm bad a dagger on person. The other 2i or 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair, small dark moustache, no whiskers, dark complexion, slight build ; dressed' in black coat and vest, dark trousers and reefing jacket, dark brown overcoat, brown bowler bat, button- up boots, had a black bowler and a pair of patent shoes in his possession ; wore a gold watch, aud gold Albert chain with long links, also a goM ring, with diamond, carried a black walking stick, with curved handle and two silver ferules on top and bottom. These men had with them a black leather bag and a medium sized brown leather portmanteau, are well dressed, of good address and smart appearance. Tliey left by the 10 p. m., train for Southampton Docks, where they took tickets for Waterloo oil same day as robbery. Information to Mr. Supt. Vickery, Weymouth, Dorset.— Bow- street, February 18. Charged with stealing, on 12th instant, about 243 lb. weight of Bacon, at Chertsey :— MATHIAS HERRING, alias MAT, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 iuehes high, dark complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, no whiskers or moustache, broad heavy features, large mouth, short thick neck, is a costermonger and an associate of thieves aud poachers , well known at Kingston- on- Thames, Hounstow, Guildford, Godalming, & c. ; dressed in black cloth trousers, long dark overcoat, hard black felt hat, with flat crown. HENRY HOWARD, alias ROUNDHEEL, about 24 yrs. of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light hair,' cut very short, lie whiskers or moustache, limps when walking; dressul in cord trousers, light doeskiu coat, and hard felt har. And JOSEPH HOWARD. alias COCKTAIL, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light hair, cut very short, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in moleskin trousers aud vest, with pearl buttons, blue pilot jacket, an imitation seal- skin cap. The two last named are notorious poachers. Information to Mr. Supt. Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow street, February 18. Stolen at Peplow. between 9 a. m. and 1 p. m. on 16th instant,:— a light plaid cloth Jacket, a pair of light cloth Trousers, a pair of light cord Trousers, a white slop Jacket, two white Shirts, four bundle Handkerchiefs, two Scarfs, one pair Braces, a pair of Stockings, a pair of knitted Cuffs, two flats, one Umbrella, a white Collar, four Shirt Pieces, one calico Piece, two reels of Cotton, and a card of shirt Buttons ( recovered). By a man, 30 or 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, freub complexion, long thin face, sandy whiskers, moustache and hair ( cut short) ; dressed in black " cloth suit Left his hatin a beerhouse at Wellington, Salop. Information to Mr. Supt. Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Owen, Wem, Salop.— Bow- st., Feb. 18. Charged in Sheffield, on warrant with embezzlement •— GEORGE DUCKWORTHS, a paper merchant, about 44 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, tender eyes, iron grey hair, sandy moustache, whiskers and beard, large feet ; he is generally dressed in a light overcoat, blue trousers, and small felt hat ; he is well known at Leeds, where he formerly carried on buisness as a paper merchant. Information to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield. — Bow- ilreei, February 18. Charged with stealing; £ 50 in Money, and a gold albert Guard, curb pattern :— Police Sergeant ANDREW JENSON, 28 years of age, 5 feet 71 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, which stands up on crown, grey eyes, anchor and ' A. J.' tattooed inside left arm, heart, anchor and ' A. J.' forepait right arm, stoops rather when walking ; dressed in a 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. February 11 dark ribbed worsted cloth overcoat, nearly new, dark worsted' cloth dress coat, single breasted with two pockets behindhand ticket pocket right side, blue uniform trousers, black billy- cock hat, and lace- up boots ; he is a native of Copenhagen, Denmark, where his father is inspector of Police. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lanca- shire.— Bow- street., February 18. Charged on warrant with stealing £ 3, on 3rd instant :— ALFRED HITCH, 32 yeaas of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, brown hair, grey eves, fresh complexion, military appearance, thin build, tattooed BC' on right breast, scar under right eye and on left shoulder blade, mole on back, and one do. on belly; dressed in grey tweed coat ard vest, cord trousers, black hard felt hat, and spring- side boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Waters, Hants Constabulary, Kingsclere.— Bow- street, February 18. Charged with embezzling £ 12, at Stirling :— THOMAS REDPATH, a carter, native of Lanark, 27 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair hair, no whiskers or moustache, round face, fair complexion, ordinary make, two front teeth worn by using tobacco pipe ; walks with a swaggering gait : dressed in dirty moleskin trousers and vest, or jacket, similar to those worn by carters, had also with him a dark tweed shooting coat, common cloth cap with peak, fand heavy lace- up boots. Charged on warrant with stealing a silver lever Watch ( recovered) :- JOHN DEMPSIE, alias ALFRED BRYSON, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, hazel eyes; a native of South Leith, near Edinburgh. Was a private in the 58th Brigade Depot at Stirling, but deserted on 13th October, 1880. Father lives at 53, Giles- street, South Leith. Information to Mr. Supt. Ferguson, Borough Police Chambers, Stirling, N. B.— Bow- street, February 18. Absconded on 7th instant, charged with larceny as a bailee JAMES BRADFORD, 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 iaches high, medium build, sandy whiskers and moustache, rather long features ; dressed in a grey suit of clothes, new pair of watertight boots, brass eyelets round hard hat, with name written inside on the lining, collar, and black and blue necktie, brown and orange colour plaid woollen shirt; took with him a suit of clothes, brown cloth speckled with green. Information to Mr. Supt. Caswell, Church Stretton, Salop. — Bow- st., February 18. Absconded on 11th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement :— FREDERICK RUSSELL, clerk, late of 8, Bells- buildiugs, Salisbury- square, E. C., and Murray- villa, Court Hill Road, Lewisham, 21 years of age, 6 feet high, slim build, small moustache and whiskers, sallow complexion, light brown hair, and walks with a slovenly gait ; dressed respectably, and wears a long dark overcoat. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, February 18. Stolen at Weymouth, between 6 and 7 p. m., on 14th inst. : — a case of mourning Rings, one set with 3 small diamonds, the others set with pearls, and some with places for hair ; a gent's plain gold Ring, with pink stone ; 3 pairs of gold Ear- rings, one pair in shape of acorns, one pair with pearls in centre, one pair with a ball and leaf around it; about 30 gent's 9- carat gold Rings; a gold keyless Watch, No. 14, believed to have the letters ' S, F. & Co.' on it; a new silver Watch, No. 18, with a Thermometer or> dial; a second Jiand gold Watch ; a pearl Brooeb, gold mountings ; a set of gent's gold sleeve Links. By a man, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, rather stoutly built, round face, small dark moustache ; dressed in dark coat, and dark bowler hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Vickery, Weymouth, Dorset. •— Bow- street, February 16. Stolen on 9th instant, about 5 a. m., at Rushton, near Wellington, Salop :— a ham of Bacon, recovered in Shrewsbury. By a man, from 20 to 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, round features, fresh complexion, small light brown whiskers, shaved under chin; dressed in small soft billycock hat, very dark grey overcoat, double- breasted, and reaching to his knees, supposed dark cloth trousers, and strong lace- up boots. Supposed to be the same man charged with horse stealing at Burlton, Salop, on 15th November Inst. Informa- tion to Mr. Chief Supt. Ivins, Wellington, Salop.— Bow- street, February 16. Charged with stealing Tools and a Coat, at Prickwillow, near Ely ( which are recovered) :— a tramping mill stone dresser, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, no beard or whiskers, thia patid face ; dressed in cap, with cheese cutter peak, broken across, brown coat, dark trousers, thin spare figure, walked as though foot sore. Last heard of near Chatteres, on 10th instant. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Smith, Ely, Cambs.— Bow- street, February 16. Absconded from Summertown, near Oxford, on 10th instant, charged with stealing a meerschaum Pipe ; a gilt Albert Chain ; and a silver Ring :— CHARLES HUTT, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, very dark complexion, dark hair, thick lips ; dressed in dark plaid coat and vest, brown cloth trousers, black hard hat, and lace- up boots. In- formation to D. C. C. Fernsby, or Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford, • who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, Feb. 16. Charged on warrant for embezzlement-, at Burslem :— WILLIAM SHIRLEY, 44 years of age, 5 feet inches high, light hair, small side whiskers, no moustache, dark eyes, ruddy face, stout build ; frequents hotels, and talks freely when in drink ; usually wears a respectable looking light overcoat, and Muller hat. A brewers traveller and agent. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, February 16. Charged on a warrant in Nottingham, with stealing £ 1 and a gold Watch and Chain :— a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, pale complexion, dark curly hair, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in dark clothes, black rough overcoat, hard round hat;— a man, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, stout build, dark hair and whiskers at side, no moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, with a hard round hat. And a woman, 30 years of [ age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, good- looking, frizzy hair ; dressed in a light dress, imitation seal- skin jacket, and black hat, trimmed with black feathers and beads. They are travelling about the country swindling people of property through the medium of the ' Exchange and Mart,' and robbing their lodgings. They have been known iu Derby by the name of Ingram, in Peterborough by the name of Neville, and in Nottingham by the name of Jarrold. They have also been in Grantham. Information to Chief Constable Poyntz, Central Police Station, Nottingham.— Bow- street, February 16. Stolen at Portobello, Willenhall, on 11th instant:— Four Shillings in Silver. By a man about 23 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, pale complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, slight build, long features ; dressed in short dark monkey jacket, tight trousers, round hard felt hat, and walks erect. Information to Mr. Chief Supt Longden, Constabulary Office, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- February 14. Absconded from Clay Cross on 24th ultimo, charged on warrant with embezzlment:— GEORGE alias PETER DOVE, a labourer or osiler at public- houses, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, clean shaved, stout, rather round shouldered, and lost middle ( supposed) left hand ; a native of Haverhill, Suffolk. Information to Mr. Supt. Coope, Alfreton, or to Inspector Handley, Clay Cross, Derbyshire.—- Bow- street February 14. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Abscondi- d, charged with being a fradulent bankrupt:— FREDERICK KERSTEN, a German, 38 years of age, 5 ft. 8 inches high, pale complexion, high cheek bones, dark brown moustache, and tuft on chin ; dressed in black diagonal suit. FREDERICK JESSLER, 27 years of age, 5 feet high, auburn hair, blue eyes, fair complexion, medium build, has a scar on right knee, and strumous eyelids. Was convicted of highway robbery at St. Heliers, Jersey, on 13th of August, 1868, and sentenced to 14 years penal servitude; was liberated from Portland Prison, September 5th, 1879. And PHOEBE ANN CLARKE, 48 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, light brown hair, grey eyes, freckled face, slightly pockmarked, scars across nose, lost two upper teeth.
