CONT '.| xiNG The substance of all Informations received in cases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Ho. 6567 WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1881 3V Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the ( purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Juetters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and •£ Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office F ® « ns 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tire reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or aooeeapanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them- They Bhould contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the propeity, without tie apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other' wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may he at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary, INFORMATIONS, MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the evening of 14th instant, one of the outbuildings attached to the Infantry Barracks in Salford was partially destroyed by some explosive substance, and a boy was fatally, and several other persons seriausly, injured. £ 500 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the offender or offenders, and that £ 100 will be paid to any accomplice, not being the actual perpetrator, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any such accomplice. Bank, on 18th instant :— a man, 34 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown beard and moustache; dressed in long dark overcoat, and black hat, gcod address ; he visits tradesmen's shops, orders goods, principally grocery, stating he is going to open a shop in a neighbouring town, tenders the cheques, and draws the balance. Stolen on the night of 18th instant, by means of bur- glary, from the residence of George North, of Wawne, near Beverley, Yorkshire :— a lady's gold lever Watch, gold fac and figures, maker's name Peter Bedell, Hull, No. 95082 a plain gold Chain with one link broken and mended with grey thread, a gold Seal, dark green stone at one end, and a gold Key at the other ; a small gold Pencil- case, and sir all white cornelian stone in the shape of a heart; part of an Apple Pie, and sweet Cake. Stolen during the night of 29th ultimo, or early on the morning of 30th ultimo, from the Wood Farm, Hanley Castle :— a black faced yearling wether Sheep, marked on both sides with the letters ' B, H.' in pitch, the letters on one side are much plainer than on the other. £ 2 reward will be paid by Mr. B. Description of JOSEPH RUSSELL, charged on warrant under the Bailee Act, with fraudulently converting into his own use, a silver English lever Watch, No. 8808, maker Sbow, Spilsby, which was entrusted to him for. repair :— he is 40 yrs. of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slender build, sallow complexion, sandy hair, long sandy whiskers and moustache, a watch and clock cleaner, last residence Thorne, left on 25th ultimo ; dressed in shorty.' ark coat, snuff- coloured vest and trousers, black felt hat, had' elastic bamiToana it, and banc behio.^. old lace- up boots, soles far worn. Absconded, charged with embezzling £ 95, from his employers :- WILLIAM BRADING, a clerk, 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, long face, high forehead, weak knees ; dress and appearance respectable. Supposed to have friends residing at Eratton, near Landport, Hants, and at Newport and Ryde, Isle of Wight. Warrant issued. In- formation to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, February 2. Charged with embezzling a large sum of Money:— WILLIAM GEORGE COOPER, a solicitor's clerk, 45 or 46 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, very florjd complexion, full under the eyes, black hair, whiskers ( long), and mous- tache, dark eyes, proportionate figure, has a wen on left side back of neck, and stoops when walking ; dressed in a dark tweed suit of clothes and round h . rd felt hat. Has been in a similar situation at or in the neighbourhood of Leytonstone, where he is well known. Information to the Chiof Constable, Central Police Office, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, Northumberland. — Bow- street, February 2. Stolen at Sleaford, on 25th instant :— an old silver verge Watch, double cased, No. 2024, figured face. By a youth, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, no whiskers, a little dark down on upper lip, light brown hair, inclined to ctirl, and grows low head, down on fore very thick bottom lip, caused by a cut, fair complexion ; dressed in old brown cloth cap, short dark coat, dirty moleskin vest and trousers, sewn across knees, and worn at bottoms, strong lace boots ; was called John, and has worked at Slea- ford a few days, with a threshitg [ machine, he absconded at 6 a. m, on the day of the robbery. Information to Mr. Supt. Richdale, Sleaford.— Bow- s'reet, January ,31. Stolen at Preston, between 11 p. m' 23rd, and 6 a. m on 24th instant:— a double cased silver Geneva Watch, with movement hand off; a horse- hair Guard, with three keys attached ; a greasy dark blue cloth Jacket, with two pockets with laps on right side, and one on left, double breasted, velvet collar, and button at the wrist with oue button ; a Sovereign and a Half- sovereign. By ELI HOPKINS, a native of Oxfordshire, and driver of a steam cultivator, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, brown hair', slight moustache, no whiskers, fresh complexion, and stout build; dressed in the stolen jacket, greasy cord trousers, black greasy cap, and heavy lace- up boots ; he took a ticket on the morn- ing of 24th instant, at Long Melford Railway Station, for London ; has been employed by the Great Eastern Company, as engine cleaner, in London. Charged on warrant with stealing 2 Planes, recovered, between 11th and 17th ult. :— JOHN IRLAM SUMMERS, 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light complexion, hair, and eyes, and is a costermonger ; dressed in dark monkey jacket, fustian trousers, cloth cap, is of dirty appearance, anil recently enlisted in the East Kent Militia. February 2 Stolen in December last, from a stable at the Adelphi Hotel, Llandudno :— a meerschaum Pipe and cigar Holder, horseshoe pattern ; gold albert Guard, round links; set of gold Studs and sleeve Links, marked ' A. M.,' value £ 6, the propeity of A. Mullen. Supposed by a man, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, blotches on face, blue spot between left thumb and finger, large scars ri^ h* rlbow, cut on left fourth finger, mole right cheek; nativjB of Welshpool. Information to Chief Constable's Office, Carnarvon— Bow- street, January 31. Stolen on evening of 22nd instant, between 6 and 7 o'clock, from a room of an hotel in Glasgow :— about 300 fancy gem and diamond five stone and single stone Kings, various, both lady's and gent's ; an arrow and heart diamond Brooch ; a diamond centre Locket, turquoise and pearl trefoil border; a horse- shoe lapis Locket, with monogrom trade- mark ; a coral and pearl band Bracelet, with same monogram trade- mark; about 70 signet Kings; about 100 gold Bracelets ; 90 to 100 gold Albert and guard Chains; about 30 gold Collarettes, about 50 gold Necklets; about 150 pairs gold and fancy Ear- rings; about 50 half sets Brooches and Ear- rings; about 100 Brooches, all gold and set with stones. Some of the brooches and ear- rings have a monogram trade- mark on a small raised plate on back of them; all the above are of coloured gold and first- class quality ; and a small black glazed leather Bag, four brass nails at bottom. By two men ;— one about 32 years of age, about 6 feet high, dark heavy moustache, wore a small black felt hat,_ genteel appearance, carried small bag before described in his hand ; the other about 46 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sandy hair and whiskers mixed with grey, wore a dark overcoat and muffler, dress hat, also of genteel appearance. Charged on a Sheriff's warrant, with being concerned in the above robbery :— JOHN WALLACE, about 40 or 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark hair, small dark mutton- chop whiskers, heavy dark moustache, dark piercing eyes, sharp prominent nose, thin face, long features, ordinary make ; dressel in dark surtout coat, dark trousers and vest, Wore long straight lacing boots, with three or four brass eye- lets at top. Information to Chief Constable M'Call, Chief Constable's Office, Glasgow.— Bow- st., January 31. Absconded from Ampthill, Beds, charged on warrant With embezzlement:— JOHN SHARPE, a tailor and cutter, about 55 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale com- plexion, dark hair, little or no whiskers, dark eyes, front teeth in- upper jaw large and projecting, thin features, and promi- nent nose ; usually dressed in dark or brown suit, and soft black billycock hat; he isfa quick walker. Information to Mr. Supt. James, Ampthill, Beds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 28. Absconded from Pontypridd, charged on a warrant with stealing a patent lever Watch, No. 9499 or 9501, crystal glass, nearly new, compensation balance :— JOSIAH SMITH, a barber, of Ton Ystrad, about 22 years of age, 5 feei 7 inches high, light complexion, hair, and moustache, He has worked for a man named Keet, hair dresser, 60, Bond- street, Birming- ham. Information to Mr. Supt. Matthews, Police Office, Pontypridd, Glamorganshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 28. Stolen on 14th ultimo, from Cemmes :— a pair of brown wool Stockings, woman's size, nearly new. Supposed by a woman 30 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, fresh com- plexion, light brown hair, and blue eyes ; dressed in black hat, trimmed with bine velvet, cloth jatket and black cfress, all nearly uew; she had a little daughter with her about 4 years of age, and very light hair. She will very likely try to get a place in a public- house or hotel as cook. Information to Chief Constable Danily, Newtown, or to Police Constable Humphreys, Cemmes, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, January 26. Stolen in an hotel in Blackburn, on 22nd instanta pair of silver Ear- rings, horse- shoe pattern, small ball in the centre; a round silver Brooch, carved edges and small ball in centre, to match the Ear- rings ; a silver oval- shaped Locket, had attached a silver Chain; a lady's gold Ring, 9 carat, has had three stones in, but two of them are lost, and the remain- ing is a white one ; a gold keeper Ring, 18 carats, and has been pieced ; a lady's gold King, 22 carats, with heart on, engraved ' K. H.' ; a round silver Brooch, nickled edges, and the word ' Kate ' in froBt; a round silver Brooch ; a silver neck Chain, with drops, but four of them are lost; a pair of small round silver Ear- rings, with initals on, ' I. A. E.'; a silver Ear- ring; a small round silver Brooch, with flower in centre ; a round silver Brooch, with six stones in centre ; a pair of gold plated Ear- rings; a pair of silver sleeve Links, with the three- legs- of- man upon them ; a pair of round silver Ear- rings, with representation of a bird in centre ; an oval- shaped silver Brooch, size of a florin; a black composition Brooch, gilt edges ; a lady's small silver Geneva Watch, silver dial, gold hands and gold figures, had attached a brown silk Guard, gold Locket, and small pearl Knife. Supposed by a man 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, brown skin, red cheeks, black hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a dark brown overcoat, buttoned to him, dark trousers, shoes, and a small round felt billycock hat, and spoke the Lancashire dialect. Information to Chief Constable Jervis, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 26. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described.) Absconded from Berkeley, Gloucestershire, on 28th ult. : — ENOCH BENDELL, a groom, charged on warrant with committing an unnatural offence:— he is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, dark brown hair, and fresh complexion ; dressed in dark clothes, heavy boots, and had a small pareel, containing a jacket, and pair of trousers, believed to be dark mixture cloth. Information to Mr. Supt. Ford, Dursley, or to Sergeant Taylor, Berkeley, Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, February 2. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. JOHN DAVIS, alias BRUMMY, and a man known by the name of NOBBY, two of the four men charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Wm. Chilman, at Withcote, Leicester, and advertised in Police Gazette of 22nd ultimo, have been apprehended.— Bow- street, February 2. Charged with obtaining, at Brighton, from three watch- makers : a gold Geneva Watch, No. 102,302, with long gold Chain attached; a lady's silver Geneva ditto, maker ' Ban- bury' on dial; and a lady's gold Geneva ditto, gold face, caystal glass, steel hands, gilt dome, jewelled in 8 holes, and engraved case, has had initials on the back, but have been erased :— a man, about 20 years of age, rather short, slight make, thin pale smooth face ; dressed in dark clothes, black hard felt hat, and mittens. Information to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, February 2. Charged on a warrant with obtaining a gold Locket by false pretences, at Windsor :— a Man giving the name of WARREN, about 30 yeais of age, about 6 feet high, very fair complexion, heavy moustache; dressed in brown Over- coat, black deerstalker hat, patent leather shoes, with light brown gaiters over.
