Thi Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehensim. A Description, at accurate a* possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horse* for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed . offenders, or Btolon property, may bear the Signature of ithe person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed ito the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that on information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with Kile advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by t'ne persons forwarding them. They Bhould contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. Stolen from the person at Prestcn, on 13th instant :— a gold Watch, No. 8704, maker Dent, London, had a gold dial, black fingers, and. plain back, had attached a silver Locket, without glass, and Chain. Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston.— Bow- street, November 17. Between 6 and 7 p. m. on 13th instant, John Nelson was assaulted and robbed near Exeat- bridge, " West Dean, Sussex, of 15s. 6d. in silver Money :— by two men, who went towards Seaford, each about 40 yesrs of age, about 5 feet 9 or 10 ins. high, dark hair, long heavy whiskers and moustache, one rather slight, the other stout figure ; had the appearance of navvies; dressed in brown or drab navvy slops, fustian or cord trousers, and caps with peaks ; were of dirty appearance. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & e., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. informations MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 8th instant, the body of a female child was found near Saint Michael's Church, Maidstone, wrapped in a square piece of old linen and brown paper, the latter having upon it in writing ' Mr. Shrub,' and in pencil ' G. & A. Peters, Ide Hill, Sevenoaks.' An inquest was held on the 10th instant, and a verdict of 1 Wilful Murder' returned, against some person or persons unknown. On the evening of 21st instant, some person or persons wilfully and maliciously set fire to a hay Rick in a field near Little Malvern Court, the property of C. M. Berington, Esq. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, or Sergeant Walker, Malvern, Worcestershire. — Bonn- street, November 24. ROBBEBY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on 19th instant, from the person :— a gentleman's massive gold diamond Ring, single diamond, has been recently reset in claw. Information to Mr. Supt. Brinson, Ringwood, Hants.— Bow- street, November 24. Stolen from the person at Barmouth on night of 16th instant:— a full- size silver lever Watch, plain cases, square pendant, 1 Griffith Davies, Dolgelley' on plate inside, No. 1403, attached to the same was a small brass Chain, small links. Also stolen from the person at same time and place :• silver lever Watch, engine- turned, open face, ' Robert Wright, Coventry,' on plate inside, No. 5395, attached to the same was a brass circular link Chain, each link four- sided, value £ 5. Information to Sergeant Ashton, Police Station, Barmouth, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, November 22. Stolen from the person at the railway station, West Malling, Kent, about 7 p. m. on 17th instant : - a silver open- face English lever Watch, sunk seconds, No. 9080, dial slightly discoloured ( browr) by fire, has a small scratch on dial, exteuding to figure 11., also about 6s. in Money. Stolen, on 17th instant, from a lady whilst waiting at the Neath Station on the Great Western Railway :— two £ b Bank of England Notes, issued at the Glamorganshire Bank. Neath, being two of the following numbers :— 62 | H from 42401 to 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and from 42410, 42411, 42415 42416, 42417, 42418. Inquiries to be made at banks. During the night of 19th instant, the Board Boom of the Weobly Union Workhouse was burglariously enttj- ed, and the Master's Day Book '( large), long Book with red cover ; 2 clothing Books, red covers ; necessaries and provisiot Book, red cover; 1 bundle of Invoices; 4s. worth of postage Stamps; 3 receipt Stamps; an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, and steel Chain ; 1 pair men's strong lace- up Boots, new ; and £ 3 10s. in Money, were stolen. Information to Mr. Supt. Shead, Police Station, Weobly, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, November 24. Stolen by means of burglary, at Cobham, during the night of 20th instant:— a china Cup, Saucer, and Top, oriental china, with a figure moveable in the centre ; a Chinese Cardbox, gilt feet and divisions, and small boxes and trays containing pearl counters, some with crest' T. B.'; a pair silver sugar Tongs and two tea Spoons, with crest; fitting of Inkstand ; silver stag Seal, ornament silver stag drawing a pearl car ; silver Tripod for flowers ; fittings of Work box e^ , silver Piercer; 4 silver Thimbles; 4 pencil Cases; and 2 pair of Scissors. Stolen from Bovingdon on the night of 15th instant:— a dark brown mare Pony, about 12i hands, rough coat, long tail, and one ear snipped. Information to Mr. Supt. Chap- man, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.— Bow- st., Nov. 24. Stolen on 14th instant, from a stable at Teddington :— a thorough brei black Mare, 15 hands, in good condition ; 3 sets of single plated Harness ; and r> leather Collars. Infor- mation to the Director, C. I. D., Gre. t Scotland Yard, P W. Metropolitan volice, November 24. Left at a public- house, Hurst, on 8th August last, supposed stolen :— a dark brown mare Cob, aged, 14 hands high, b'ack points, small white star on forehead, lame on off hind leg, cannot bear to put its off hind foot down on the har 1 .1, is without shocf. By a man of eipsev appearance, , and tall felt hat; has not been seen in the neighbourhood since. Information at County Police Office, Hurst, near Ashton- under- Lyne.— Bow- street, November 22. by a undoing buckle in centre; a gold Locket, book- shape, gentleman's photograph inside, two small compartments for hair, one had light gold hair in it; a gold Bracelet, with blue enamel centre- piece, white stone in centre, the clasp has been mended ; a set of three engraved gold Shirt Studs ; a Breast Pin, bog oak and gold, in shape of a harp ; and a small gold ditto, twisted, with bar of gold through centre. Information at Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester, Lancashire. Bow street, Nouember 19. Remanded at Dunstable till ' 24th instant, charged with burglary :— FREDERICK SMITH, 36 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, brown hair, cut close, grey eyes, no whiskers, & c., states he is a shoemaker, and a native of Bradford; dressed in shabby black suit, and billycock hat. JOHN JACKSON, 49 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, erect figure, flag on chest, labourer from Bradford; dressed in old black coat, corduroy trousers, black billy hat. And WALTER MAJOR, 27 years of age, 5 feet 3i inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, small sandy moustache, labourer, from Northampton; dressed in black coat and trousers, black billycock hat. Housebreaking implements were found in their possession. Information to Head Constable George, Dunstable, Bedford- shire.— Bow- street, November 19. I Stolen by means of burglary, on the night of 14th inst., Charged with stealing the Donkey, described in Police Gazette of 15th instant, from Pousces Farm, Minster Thanet, ( donkey recovered) :— a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, small tuft on chin ; dressed in old monkey jacket, light fustian or cord trousers, and black soft felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Kewell, County Police Station, Sandwich, Kent.— Bow- street, Nov. 22. Charged with stealing a Horse at Burton, Salop, on 15th instant ( recovered), having been sold in Shrewsbury on morning of 16th instant by a man who had the appearance of of a farmer's son, or a groom :— 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium build, round face, fresh complexion, hair ( cut short) inclined to be sandy, clean shaved, except be- neath the ear, little light whiskers ; dressed in a small hard hat of the latest fashion, narrow brink, snuff- coloured clothes mixed with small white spots, trousers fitting rather tight, newmarket cut coat, and lace- up boots ; spoke with a Shrop- shire accent. Information to Mr. Supt. Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Owen, Wem, Salop.— Bow- street, November 22. Charged with stealing a bay Pony, aged, 12£ hands high ; a dog Cart, picked out with light blue, plated lamps, and blue cord cushion ; brown leather Harness, brass mountings ; a new black cane Whip ; a waterproof Rug, woollen lining of mixed colour ; a woollen Rug, black and striped, on reverse side ; a check stable Rug, and Roller :— a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, and small whiskers, with moustache, fresh open countenance ; dressed in dark suit, ribbed overcoat, and black round hat. Was accompanied by a little woman, very young looking, and pale, with dark frizzy hair ; wearing a black jacket, and a sealskin jacket, turned up with fur. They drove to London. Information to Mr. Supt Benson, Newmarket, Cambs.— Bow- street, November 22. Stolen from Normanton, Turville Park, near Hinckley, during the night of 4th instanta dark brown cart Mare, aged, 16 hands high, rather long tail, and black points. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Chapman, Hinckley.— Bow- street, Nov. 17. Stolen from Hainton, between 6 and 7 p. m. on 14th instant:— a brown nag Horse, 14 hands high, 15 years old, white star on forehead, hair chafed off both sides, with traces, and on breast with collar, rather fast, had its hair on ; also a Saddle and Bridle, saddle nearly new, a bit knocked off top, plain stirrups, bridle single rein, rather old, new throat strap, twisted bit, , Supposed by a man, from 20 to 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout build, and of smart appearance; dressed in a grey coat, dark cloth trousers, yelkw worsted cap. Information to Inspector Osborn, Wragby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen from Wilnecote, on the night of 12th instant:— five Heifers. By a man, 26 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, high cheek bones, full promi- nent forehead, very small whiskers, small dark moustache, and of medium build ; dressed in a dark tweed suit, with tight fitting trousers, long brown overcoat, reaching to the middle of the calf's of his legs, and a hard felt hat; he had the appearance of a farmer, and spoke with a Shropshire accent. The heifers are recovered, they were sold in Leicester Market, on 13th instant. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Atherstone, Warwickshire.— Bow- st., November 17. 2 PO^ CE GAZETTE. November 24 LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged with having at Leadenhatn, on 19th instant, stolen £ 1 15s. in Gold and Silver :- a man, from 22 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, pale and delicate look ing, very dark brown hair, and slender tigure ; stated that he belonged to Nottingham, or a place 8 miles from Nottingham. And a woman, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, rather stout, and said to be pockmarked, very tidy appearance ; wore a white apron, and carried a bright pea tin, with double lid. They travel together from town to town, and sell hot peas in markets, were traced into Nottingham on the day of the robbery. Information to Mr. Supt. Richdale, Sleaford, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, November 24. Stolen at Hands worth, on 13 th instant:— four pairs of black ribbed Stockings ; twelve babies Bibs ; two yards of red Flannel; a yard of Calico ; and a Scotch plaid Shawl. By ELLEN EARP, a servant, about 30 years of age, medium build, dark brown hair, brown eyes, round features, and turn- up nose ; dressed in black shawl, black dress, black bonnet, with yellow maize in front. Information to Mr. Supt. Whitehurst, " West Bromwich, or to Inspector Evans, Hands- worth, near Birmingham, who holds a warrant for her appre- hension.— Bow- street, November 24. Stolen at Newport, Monmouth, on 18th instant:— a silver English lever Watch, No. 4745, with crystal glass; also a, small silver Geneva, No. 12687, with long silver Guard attached. By a man who lodged in the house two nights :— about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark com- plexion, pale looking, no whiskers or moustache j dressed in a long double- breasted brown overcoat, dark sleeve vest, with brass buttons, one of the sleeves nearly out, dirty moleskin trousers, and black hard hat or fur cap, a labourer; he left behind in his bed- rodm, five white Pocket- handkerchiefs, marked-*- It. T.' in red cotton, a white Muffler, and a set of imitation tortoise Studs and Sleeve- links, supposed stolen. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Sinclair, Town Hall, New- port, Monmouthshire.— Bow- street, November 22. Stolen on 18th instant, from the ' Bull Inn,' Oiaey, Bucks :— a pair of clipping Machines, recovered. By a tramping groom, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, full face, brown hair, little whiskers near the ears; dressed in a grey Suit, hard felt hat, lace- up shoes ; is rather tender on his feet; carries a small bundle under his arm in a red hand- kerchief Calls at Inns and Hotels for work. Information to Inspector Moore, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Bow- street, November 22. Stolen at St, Thomas'B, on 4th instant:— a small size open face silver Geneva Watch, crack on face near figure 6, and engine- turned back; also a hair Guard. By a man, of respectable and smart appearance, about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, light browo hair, inclined to curl, no whiskers, light moustache fresh com plexion, and slightly freckled, turn- up nose, gofd teeth, and lull mouth; dressed in dark frock coat, and dart cloth over- Coat, with— yelvet collar, brown mixture cloth trousers, low crown narrow biim toiler hat. Information " to the Deputy Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 22. Stolen from the Lord Raglan Lodging- house, Swindon, on 17th instant:— a pair of heavy tipped and nailed Boots, man's size, the right boot cut about half an iiichiar- essemcn*, near the eySfet holes, about half worn. By a man of genteel appearance, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, narrow features, and the front upper teeth projecting; dressed in a black coat, dark tweed trousers, the right thigh torn behind, round black hard hat, and wear- ing the stolen Boots, his own were left behind. Information to Mr. Supt. North, Swindon, Wiltshire. — Bow- St., Nov. 22. Stolen at Whitchurch, Salop, on 20th instant :— a pair of light colour woollen cord Trousers, fall fronts, rule pocket in right side; and a pair of elastic Braces, fastened together. Supposed by a man, 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair; and no whiskers ; supposed to be a tailor by trade ; dressed in a suit of old dark cloth clothes, muffler round neck, hard felt hat, and strong lace- up toots. Information to Mr. Supt. Haines, Whitchurch, Salop, — Bow- street, November 22. Charged with embezzlement, at Heanor, on 18th August last:— THOMAS BERRESFORD, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, very fresh cotcplexion, oval face, no whiskers or moustache, light brown hail, hazel eyes, knees bent slightly inwards, and walks with one leg a little stiff; dressed in a black suit, and usually carries an overcoat with him. Is a native of Belper, near Derby, a grocer's assistant, a few days before he absconded he stated he had got a situation in Manchester at a sugar boiling establishment, Messrs. Basset ts, as a traveller. Information to Mr. Supt. Hancock, Police Station, Langley Mill, near Nottingham, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, November 19. Stolen from the ' Blossoms' Hotel, Chester, on 16th instant:— a £ 5 Note, and some articles of men's Clothing. By a man who stayed in the hotel, and represented himself to be a commercial traveller, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, moustache, and beard ( imperial), rather round- shouldered ; dressed in Scotch tweed coat, slate- coloured trousers; had with him a small travelling bag. In- formation to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester.— - i^ Bow street, November 19. Description of a man known as TED; charged on warrant with embezzling £ 5, at Rottingdean :— about 39 yis. of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion and eyes, black hair, slight figure, joiner by trade; dressed in black cloth suit, black hard felt hat, flat crown, and" old shoes. In- formation at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Mr. Superintendent Dennis, Patcham, East Sussex.— Bow- street, November 19. — Height should be 6 feet 1 or 2 inches, complexion ruddy and sunbufnt. Generally accompanied by a woman, who; js supposed to reside in the neighbourhood of King's- road, Chelsea, and represents herself as the Horn THERESA MAXWELL, 23 rears of age, 5 feet high, alia, dark hair and complexion; generally wears either a long sealskin jacket with deep border of fur, or a very light drab ( coachmen's cloth) ulster, with large white pearl buttons. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland- yard, S-. W. Metropolitan! Fdice, November 24. Charged on warrant'^ th obtaining two Pictures by means of a Cheque on th^ National Provincial Bank of England, Portsmouth'Branch,, there being no such branch :— H. SHARPLES, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather stout, long dark brown hair, slightly grey ; dressed in dark overcoat and trousers, high crowned hat; of gentlemanly appearance and plausible manners. Stated he was from Portsea, and a collector of pictures. Was well acquainted with dealers and painters of pictures. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Kent County Constabulary, Canterbury.— Bow- street, November 22. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Stolen on 13th instant, from Chislehurst:— a Mount St. Bernard Dog, orange tawny white legs, neck, and markings, answers the name of ' Leo.' By two men in a hawkers cart, rough brown horse, containing several hampers. Had with them a small white bitch. Supposed to have been on road to London. £ 5 reward will be paid by C. F. Denny, Esq., Redhill, Chislehurst, for such information as will lead to the conviction of the thief or thieves. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, November 24. Further particulars and corrected description of a man man representing himself to be the Hon. WALTER C. MAXWELL ( advertised in the Police Gazette of 19th inst.) : MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. He was convicted at Leeds Borough Sessions, 12th May, 1873, for larceny after previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude and 7 years police supervision ; he was discharged on license from Portsmouth Convict Prison, 23rd October, 1880, his license was revoked at Leeds, on 26th May, 1879, and he was again liberated on expiration of sentence from Pentonville Convict Prison, 11th May, 1880.
