Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Polico Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with tho advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no chargo is made for the insertion of any article in tho POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mu& t be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on whioh it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of 5th instant, there were set fire to and burnt :— 1 Clover Stack, 1 Bean Stack, and a portion of a Hay Stack, at Welland Ccurt Farm, Welland. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, or to Sergeant Walker, Police Station, Welland, inear Upton- on- Severn, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, November 12. On the night of 5th instant, there were set fire to and burnt :— a Barn and Stable, containing a quantity of Peas, Barley, and Beans, alt unthrashed, all destroyed, at Mathon, near Malvern. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, or to Sergeant Drury, Police Office, Malvern, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, November 12. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Preston, on 13th instant :— a gold Watch, No. 8704, maker Dent, London, had a gold dial, black fingers, and plain back, had attached a silver Locket, without glass, and Chain. Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston.— Bow- street, November 17. Between 6 and 7 p. m. on 13th instant, John Nelson was assaulted and robbed near Exeat- bridge, West Dean, Sussex, of 15s. 6d. in silver Money :— by two men, who went towards Seaford, each about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 9 or 10 ins. high, dark hair, long heavy whiskers and moustache, one rather slight, the other stout figure ; had the appearance of navvies ; dressed in brown or drab navvy slops, fustian or cord trousers, and caps with peaks ; were of dirty appearance. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 6th instant, in Manchester :— a miniature Portrait of a lady in the costume of the reign of George III., with hair plaited at back, surmounted by a gold rim, and in shape of a locket, in the centre of the back the hair is twisted on opal; a miniature Portrait of a geutleman, iu the costume of the reign of George III., with hair worked ou opal at the back, in shape of a feather, surmounted by a gold rim, and in shape of a brooch ; a miniature Portrait of a lady, in the costume of the reigu of George III., with hair plaited at back, and initials J. S.' on the back, and gold border at back ; a miniature Portrait of a gentleman, in the costume of the reign of George III., with hair plaited at back, also blue glass at back, aud initials ' W. Stolen by means of burglary, from the Ring of Bells, Yardley, on 10th instaut:— 7 dessert Prongs, 3 table Spoons, pair of sugar Tongs, 10 or 12 egg Spoons, a dozen tea Spoons, all nickle silver, and flower or lily pattern ; a sauce Ladle, 3 dessert Spoons, 2 pairs of sugar Tongs ( large size), 2 salt Spoons, 2 Salts ( shell pattern), 2 decanter Stands ( one of which has crest of bat, on bottom), a mustard Spoon, a butter Dish, Cover and Stand ( model of cow on top), all plated ; a silver dessert Knife, with fancy pearl handle ; a pair of gold Spectacles, with pebble glasses; a pair of diamond Ear- lings, diamonds set in silver and gold clasps, very old fashioned ; a damask table Cloth, small square pattern, mark ' I>. and E. Spittle' in corner, small cut iu centre ; and about £ 2 in silver Coins. Information to Mr. Supt. Yardley, Acocks Green, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, November 12. During the night of 31st ultimo, the residence of His Grace the Duke of Somerset, Bulstrode- park, Gerrard's Cross, Bucks, was burglariously broken into and stolen therein :— a black cloth Cloak, 9 ft. long, lined with brown fur, worn and torn at the armholes, and fastens with thick braid round the buttons ; a black cloth Jacket, collar, cuffs, and skirt trimmed with black or brown fur; a lady's grey waterproof Cloak, is a size far larger than would be found at any ready made shops, and has a cornered square collar instead of a hood; a bracket Clock, gold face, marble frame, and gilt handle at top ; a Candlestick, is of a column and goat pattern, and is electro type ; and a brown Railway Rug, recovered. Information to Mr. Supt. Dunham, Polico Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- street, November 10, vertised in Police Gazette, of 19th'July last:— is now wearing long whiskers and moustache, and in company with a man named THOMAS CLIFFORD, see Nos. 2 and 26 in the group of photos, on illustrated description of convicts and others at large, sent from the Criminal Investigation Depart- ment ; they are both dressed as dealers, wearing long soft brown leather leggings, and overcoats. Information to Chief Constable Sterne, Police Station, Devizes, Wilts.— Bow- street, Nov. 10. During the night of 7th instant, a house at BroxboUfnE, Herts, was burglariously entered, and stolen therein :— a pair of youth's Drawers, white ; a Pillow- case ; an old Tewel, all marked ' G. Raincock'; a pair of Boots, elastic- side ; a pair of child's button Boots; a carving Knife and Fork; a poultry1 Carver ; eight large white- handled Knives; six or seven small ditto ; five plain electro silver tea Spoons ; an old silver' tea Spoon, ' G. H. R.' marked on handlo ; three electro Forks, King's pattern; six nickel silver Forks; three metal table Spoons ; three ditto tea ditto ; about two dozen old electro Forks, King's pattern ; and ten dessert Spoons, bead pattern, all the plating worn off, some of the small knives marked ' Benetfink,' and some ' Stutter,' the large ones various makers. Also stolen by means of burglary, the same night:— two pairs of kid Boots, elastic sides, sizes 6 and 4 ; four Half Crowns; fourteen Farthings ; a white Table Cloth ; a Tray Cloth ; a gauze Veil, black ; carving Knife and Fork, white bone handles ; very old German silver Fork; metal Spoons; aud a brown twill Umbrella. Information to Mr. Supt. Bygrave, Ware, or to Sergeant Coote, Hoddesdon, Herts.— Bow- street, November 10. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Normauton, Turville Park, n « ar Hinckley, duriug the night of 4th instant:— a dark brown cart mare, aged, 16 hands high, rather long tail, aud black points. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Chapman, Hinckley.— Bow- street, Nov. 17. Stolen from Hainton, between 6 and 7 p. m. on 14th instant:— a brown nag Horse, 14 hauds high, 15 years old, white star on forehead, hair chafed off both sides, with traces, and ou breast with collar, rather fast, had its hair on ; also a Saddle and Bridle, saddle nearly new, a bit knocked off top, plain stirrups, bridle single rein, rather old, new throat strap, twisted bit. Supposed by a man, from 20 to 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout build, and of smart appearance; dressed in a grey coat, dark cloth trousers, yellow worsted cap. Information to Inspector Osborn, Wragby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen from Wilnecote, on the night of 12th instant:—< five Heifers. By a man, 26 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, high cheek bones, full promi nent forehead, very small whiskers, small dark moustache, and of medium build ; dressed iu a dark tweed suit, with tight fitting trousers, long brown overcoat, reaching to the middle of the calf's of his legs, and a hard felt hat; he had the appearance of a farmer, and spoke with a Shropshire accent. The heifers are recovered, they were sold in Leicester Market, on 13th instant. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Atherstone, Warwickshire.— Bow- st., November 17. Stolen from Maidwell, on [ 3rd instant, two 2£ year old Heifers, of the short horn breed, one all red and the other a roan colour. Information to Mr. Supt. Botterill, Kettering, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen from Pousces Farm, Minster, Thanet, on 9th instant:— a dark brown mare Donkey, aged, in good condition, crack in hoof of off fore foot, has a scar on each side of fore legs, below the knees. Information to Mr. Supt. Kewell, County Police Station, Sandwich.— Bow- street, November 15. Further description of EDWARD WILSON, alias FRANCIS BARING, and EDWARD LLOYD, charged with the burglary at Baverstock Rectory, near Salisbury, ad- LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Wanted on a charge of stealing at Hesketh with Beccon- sall, a Coat, Vest, Shawl, pair of grey Stockings ( mended with blue worsted), aud a Razor ( with black handle), all of which have been recovered, except the stockings and razor :— a man, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair, sandy beard on chin, shaves on side of face and back of neck, has large eyes, and long neck ; dressed in an old dark round jacket, old fustian trousers and vest, old Blucher shoes, roughly mended at the bottoms, three lace holes on each side, but no eyelets in ; he generally works as a navvy or out door labourer, and may seek employment at some public works. Information to Mr. Supt. Beetham, Chorley, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 17. Description of JOSEPH THOMAS DRAYFORD, alias JOSEPH THOMAS, wanted, charged on warrant with stealing £ 5 5s. iu Money, at Longton, on 11th instant;— about 33 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, light complexion, dark eyes, light brown hair, moustache, no whiskers, medium build, left eye recently injured, when he absconded, was wearing a green shade over it; dressed in grey cloth stitched hat, dark grey mixture suit, trousers patched on one knee, all are very dirty, and lace- up boots; he frequents railway stations, for the purpose of carrying Luggage, for passengers. Information to Mr. Supt. McWilliams, Police Office, Longton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 17. Description of EDWIN CLARKE, late of Ashbourne, P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. November 17 charged on warrant with larceny aa bailee :— about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender build, dark com- plexion, hair and beard, is very active ; generally dressed in dark cloth suit, and hard felt hat. Travels about the country as a watch cleaner. Information to Mr. Supt. McDonald, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, November 15. Charged at Bridgnorth with stealing, on 2nd instant, a large size ivory Locket with gold rim and loop, painted on front a gentleman's likeness, glass back with hair plaited underneath and monogram ' W. M.' in gold letters in centre, enclosed in red morocco esse, also a plaid Scarf used as a muffler. By MATHEW WELD, alias MATHEW BAYLEY, about 25 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, and brown short cut hair ; dressed in a short brown or dirty grey jacket, much worn, has the appear- ance of a stableman, dark trousers, strong laced boots, and low hard black hat. He calls on clergymen and Roman catholic priests, stating he is a catholic and a gentleman's son, reduced in circumstances, and asks for relief to carry him to America. Information to Head Constable Cole, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow street, November 15. Stolen at Handsworth, on 10th instant:— a woman's black cloth Jacket, trimmed with black silk fringe and pockets on each side ; a brown calico Night- dress; a small Manilla Bag; a bricklayer's Trowel; and a 6- quart copper Tea- kettle. By a lodger about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion and liair, cut short, dark eyes, medium build, rather long face and nose, dark moustache, and whiskers shaved off, and is a bricklayer. Information- to Mr. Supt. Whiteliurst, West Bromwich, or to Inspector Evans, Handsworth, near Birmingham.— Bow- st., Nov. 15. Charged with stealing £ 9, chiefly gold Coins, at Cove, near Aldershot, on 12th instant:— an Irishman, known by name of PUNCH, a labourer, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, hazel eyes, fair complexion, light brown hair cut short, slight light moustache, no whiskers; dressen in a soft black billycock hat, white muffler, blue pilot jacket with velvet collar and pockets at sides, moleskin vest, light trousers lately washed ( either cord or moleskin), and lace- np boots. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hants Constabu- lary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, November 15. Charged on warrant with larceny, as a bailee of £ 5 5s., at Holmfirth :— EDWARD RATCLIFFE, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, brown hair, a pork butcher, lost one eye; dressed in light cloth trousers, dark coloured shooting coat and vest, cap with peak, lace- up boots ; is well known at Oldham, Blackburn, and Huddersfield, slated he intended going to Lot: don. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Goodall, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, November 15. Absconded on 20th instant, charged with embezzlement: — JAMES GRIFFITHS, alias WM. ERNEST CAMP- BELL, alias WM. CUTHBERT, 30 years of age, 5 ft. 7 ins. brown suit, and deerstalker hat. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry.— Bow- slreet, November 15. Absconded, charged with fr ud :— WOOLFE ROSEN, late of 4, Bell Lane, Spitalfields, 45 years of age, 5 feet 3 ins, high, dark complexion, dark brown moustache, and tuft on chin ; dressed in dark clothes, black felt hat, a Russian, Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Grea Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, November 12. Charged on a warrant with obtaining goods under false pretences :— OSWALD GUDGEON, late of 21, Great Win- chester- street, City, and 4, Windsor- terrace, Sunneyside- road, HornSey Rise about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high pale complexion, Roman nose, hair and moustache brown small whiskers, shaved on chin ; dressed in black frock coat, light trousers, deerstalker hat, smart appearance. Known on T and Y Division, Metropolitan Police. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, U. d.— Bow- street, November 12. high, slight build, black hair and moustache, dark heavy eye- brows, high forehead, sallow complexion, long haggered face, supposed cleanjj shaved, £ long thin hands, walks quickly, atid of gentlemanly appearance ; was convicted at Scarboro' , n 1876, a--'' sentenced to 18 months hard labour for fraudu- lent bankiuptcy. Has been manager of the Imperial Albu- men Paper Company, and resided at No. 217, Cornwall- road, Notting- hill. Warrant issued. £ 5 reward will bo paid by the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W., for such information as may lead to his arrest.— Bow- street, Nov. 15. Further information respecting GEO. CRAWSHAY, a journeyman watchmaker, advertised in Police Gazette of 10th July last, charged on warrant with larceny, was seen at Windsor, Berks, about 1st instant. .£ 1 reward is offered for his apprehension, if apprehended within 1 month from this date, upon application to Police Sergeant Joseph, Brynmawr, Breconshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 12. Charged at St. Ives, Hunts, with another man in custody, with stealing at St. Ives, on 27th ultimo, a paper Parcel, containing 3 gross of reals of Cotton, part recovered :— a man, from 40 to 45 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, proportionate build, brown hair, whiskers shaved off, bald on top of head, thick dark moustache ; dressed in long brown cloth waterproof coat, light material, corduroy trousers and vest, recently washed, black hard felt hat, light lace- up boots, three plates on each heel, two at each side, one at each toe, and two in centre ef each sole, white necktie, check cotton shirt, over another one ; said he had been in the 1st Dragoon Guards. And ELLEN MARCHANT, 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 ins. high, grey eyes, swarthy complexion, dark hair ; dressed in black crape bonnet, Scotch plaid shawl, marone dress, black body, white apron, strong lace- up boots, marks on right arm ' Marcilla O'Brien, A. Cummings.' Information to Mr. Supt. Blake, Berks Constabulary, Clewer, Windsor.— Bow- street, November 17. FRAUDS AnD AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS.
