The Nppiet of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Tht Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, tegether with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and » f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. •( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by t! ae persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post " to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be g6od enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of 5th instant, there were set fire to and burnt :— 1 Clover Stack, 1 Bean Stack, and a portion of a Hay Stack, at Welland Court Farm, Welland. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, or to Sergeant Walker, Police Station, Wellaud, near Upton- on- Severn, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, November 12. On the night of 5th instant, there were set fire to and burnt :— a Barn and Stable, containing a quantity of Peas, Barley, and Beans, all unthrashed, all destroyed, at Mathon, near Malvern. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, or to Sergeant Drury, Police Office, Malvern, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, November 12. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen by means of burglary, on 11th instant, at Harpenden, Herts :— a perforated plated sugar Spoon ; 12 foreign Coins, silver and copper ; a small round brass Clo; k, with key; 15s. or thereabouts, taken from missionary boxes ; a small spiiit Level, in brass and wood frame ; a magnifying Glass, about 4 inches by 2 inches, with black handle; a small wooden Stag, about 1 inch high; a pair of dolls Shoes, wood; a pair of opera Glasses, out of case, dark green or black leather, marked ' T. Wilson'; a pair of common Spectacles, in case ; 5 white handled Knives ; 10s. worth of Postage Stamps. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 6th instant, in Manchester :— a miniature Portrait of a lady in the costume of the reign of George III., with hair plaited at back, surmounted by a gold rim, and in shape of a locket, in the centre of the back the hair is twisted on opal; a miniature Portrait of a gentleman, in the costume of the reign of George III., with hair worked on opal at the back, in shape of a feather, surmounted by a gold rim, aud in shape of a brooch ; a miniature Portrait of a lady, in the costume of the reign of George III., with hair plaited at back, and initials ' J. S.' on the back, and gold border at back ; a miniature Portrait of a gentleman, in the costume of the reign of George III., with hair plaited at back, also blue glass at back, and initials ' W. Stolen by means of burglary, from the Ring of Bells, Yardley, on 10th instant:— 7 dessert Prongs, 3 table Spoons, 3 pair of sugar Tongs, 10 or 12. egg Spoons, a dozen tea Spoons, all nickle silver, and flower or lily pattern ; a sauce Ladle, 3 dessert Spoons, 2 pairs of sugar Tongs ( large size), 2 salt Spoons, 2 Salts ( shell pattern), 2 decanter Stands ( one of which has crest of bat, on bottom), a mustard Spoon, a butter Dish, Cover and Stand ( model of cow on top), all plated ; a silver dessert Knife, with fancy pearl handle ; a pair of gold Spectacles, with pebble glasses; a pair of diamond Ear- rings, diamonds set in silver and gold clasps, very old fashioned ; a damask table Cloth, small square pattern, mark ' B. and E. Spittle' in corner, small cut in centre ; aud about £ 2 in silver Coins. Information to Mr. Supt. Yardley, Acocks Green, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, November 12. During the night of 31st ultimo, the residence of His Grace the Duke of Somerset, Bulstrode- park, Gerrard's Cross, Bucks, was burglariously broken into and stolen therein :— a black cloth Cloak, 9 ft. long, lined with brown fur, worn and torn at the armholes, and fastens with thick braid round the buttons ; a black cloth Jacket, collar, cuffs, and skirt trimmed with black or brown fur; a lady's grey waterproof Cloak, is a size far larger than would be found at auy ready made shops, and has a cornered square collar instead of a hood; a bracket Clock, gold face, marble frame, and gilt handle at top ; a Candlestick, is of a column and goat. pattern, aud is electro type ; aud a brown Railway Rug, recovered. Information to Mr. Supt. Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- street, November 10. Further description of EDWARD WILSON, alias FRANCIS BARING, and EDWARD LLOYD, charged with the burglary at Baverstock Rectory, near Salisbury, ad- vertised in Police Gazette, of 19th July last:— is no* wearing long whiskers and moustache, and in company with a man named THOMAS CLIFFORD, see Nos. 2 and 2G in the group of photos, on illustrated description of convicts and others at large, sent from the Criminal Investigation Depart- ment ; they are both dressed as dealers, wearing long soft brown leather leggings, aud overcoats. During the night of 7th instant, a house at Broxbourne, Herts, was burglariously entered, and stolen therein :— a pair of youth's Drawers, white ; a Pillow- case ; an old T » wel, all marked ' G. Raincock'; a pair of Boots, elastic- side ; a pair of child's button Boots ; a carving knife and Foik ;. a poultry Carver; eight large white- handled Knives; six or seven small ditto ; five plain electro silver teaSpoons ; an oh" 1 « ilver breasted grey plaid Coat, all have pockets on hips and inside breast; a pair of light lace- up Boots ; 2 silver tea Spoons ; 12 plated do.; 2 do. dessert Spoons; 4 plated Forks, two large, and two small ; a large plates! prize Cup, quite plain ; and a foal's skin Pocket Book, containing business papers. P., Ledbury, Here- fordshire :— 2 soup Ladles, 47 table Spoons, lt4 tea Spoons, 36 dessert Spoons, 48 table Forks, 6 gravy Spoons, 28 dessert Forks, 12 salt Cellars, 20 salt Spoons, 3 pairs of Sugar Tongs, 12 dessert Forks from a case, 2 sugar Basins, 1 small Teapot, 8 sauce Ladles, 1 pair of ice Tongs, 3 muffineer Salts, 12 gilt dessert Spoons, 8 antique Table Spoons, 2 sugar Sifters, an odd mustard Spoon, 2 gold Spoons in case, an odd dessert Spoon, 2 fish Knives, 1 butter Knife, 2 pairs of Nut- crackers, 1 pepper Sifter, 2 ice Spades, 2 cheese Scoops, 3 marrow Spoons, a pair of grape Scissors, 7 Skewers, 9 wine Labels, 4 sauce Labels, a pair of tall Candlesticks ( antique), a tea Kettle and Stand, a hot milk Jug, 2 cream Jugs, 2 small Waiters, an oval Entree Dish and Cover, 1 mustard Pot, 2 mustard Spoons, 1 pepper Pot, 2 tea Scoops, 1 Ring with gilt Seals on it, 1 Dutch Goblet, 2 silver Mugs ( one engraved at bottom ' Jack, from Aunt Kattie'), and 2 silver Boxes ( one round, the other oval), both with repousse figures. Some of the articles are marked with a crest of two wolves, some with one wolf, with its tail down, and others with an eagle in a shield. Two men suspected of committing the burglaiy were traced to Malvern Railway Station on the morning of the robbery, and from thence to Worcester and Birmingham ( they were carrying a carpet bag each) : one is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes • the other is from 30 to 33 yea. s c: age, light hair, sand^ whiskers, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches'high ; dressed in dark clothes and ha: d flat top hat. £ 100 reward will be paid by Mr. Biddulph on the recovery of the property, or in proportion to its value, and the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to the Chief Constable of Hereford- shire, Shire Hall, Hereford, or to Mr. Supt. Blunsden, Police Office, Ledbury.— Bow- street, November 8. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Kyre, tear Tenbury on 2nd instant :— a pair cased silver Watch, No. 380, a small piece broken off dial at figures 6 and 12 ; a silk Handkerchief, twill; and a cotton do., twill. Supposed by* a man, from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark whiskers round face ; dressed in dirty slop, dark trousers, billycock hat, and heavy boots; had the appearance of a labourer, and was going in the direction of Bromyard, Herefordshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Hardman, Great Witley, Stourport, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, November 8. tea Spoon, ' G. H. R.' marked on handle ; three eleelr King's pattern ; six nickel silver Forks; three me Spoons ; throe ditto tea ditto ; about two doz- n y"* Forks, King's pattern ; and ten dessert Spoons, be-, pat all the plating worn off, some of srda. ll knives marked ' Benetfink,' and some ' Stutter,' the large ones various makers. Also stolen by means of burglary, the same night:— two pairs of kid Boots, elastic sides, sizes 6 and 4 ; four Half Crowns ; fourteen Farthings ; a white Table Cloth ; a Tray Cloth ; a gauze Veil, black ; carving Knife and Fork, white bone handles ; very old German silver Fork ; metal Spoons ; and a brown twill Umbrella. Information to Mr. Supt. Bygrave, Ware, or to Sergeant Coote, Hoddesdon, Herts.— Bow- street, November 10. Stolen by means of burglary, at Warehorn, Kent, on 6th instant:— a black cloth Overcoat, a brown do,, a single- HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Maidwell, on [ 3rd instant, t * o 2| year old Heifers, of the short horn breed, one all red aud the other a roan colour. Information to Mr. Supt. Botterill, Kettering, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen from Pousces Farm, Minster, Thanet, on 9th instant:— a dark brown mare Donkey, aged, in good condition, crack in hoof of off fore foot, has a scar on each side of fore legs, below the knees. Information to Mr. Supt. Kewell, County Police Station, Sandwich.— Bow"- street, November 15. Found at Stoke- by- Nayland, on 4th instant:— an iron grey cob Mare, in harness when found, but no trace of any cart, in good condition, recently clipped, chip kneed, between 13 and 14 hands high, and aged. Supposed stolen. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Chapman, Boxford, Colchester, or to P. C. Nolier, Stoke- by- Nayland, Suffolk.— flows ., Nov. 10. The grey Pony, Cart and Harness, described in Police Gazette, of 5th instant, as stolen from Gieat Yarmouth, by TENTON LADBROOKE, alias COOPER, have been re- covered by the Suffolk Constabulaiy. Ladbrooke has not yet been arrested. Information to Chief Constable Ogden, Great Yarmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 10. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of EDWIN CLARKE, late of Ashbourne, charged on warrant with larceny as bailee :— about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender build, dark com- plexion, hair aud beard, is very active ; generally dressed in • ark cloth suit, and nard felt hat. Travels about the country sK'a watch cleaner. Information to Mr. Supt. McDonald, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, November 15. Charged at Bridgnorth with stealing, on 2nd instant, a large size ivory Locket with gold rim and loop, painted on front & gentleman's likeness, glass back with hair plaited underneath and monogram ' W. M.' in gold letters in centre, enclosed in red morocco esse, also a plaid Scarf used as a muffler. By MATHEW WELD, alias MATHEW BAYLEY, about 25 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, and brown short cut hair ; di- essed in a short brown or dirty grey jacket, much worn, has the appear- ance of a stableman, dark trousers, strong laced boots, and low hard black hat. He calls on clergymen and Roman catholic priests, stating he is a catholic and a gentleman's son, X 2 P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. JOHN PALMER, described in Police Gazette of 25th October last, charged on warrant - with stealing £ 10 10s. in Gold, has been apprehended.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen at Hands worth, on 10th icstant:— a woman's black cloth Jacket, trimmed with black silk fringe and pockets on each side ; a brown calico Night- dress; a small Manilla Bag; a bricklayer's Trowel; and a 6- quart copper Tea- kettle By a lodger about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion and hair, cut short, dark eyes, medium build, rather long face and nose, dark moustache, and • whiskers shaved off, and is a bricklayer. Information to Mr. Supt. Whitehurst, West Bromwich, or to Inspector Evans, Handsworth, near Birmingham.— Bow- st.. Nov 15. Charged with stealing £$>, chiefly gold Coins, at Cove, near Aldershot, on 12th instant :— an Irishman, known by name of PUNCH, a labourer, about 24 years of age-, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, hazel eyes, fair complexion, light uiumi hair one short, slight light moustache, no whiskers ; dresseii in a soft black billycock hat, white muffler, blue pilet jacket with velvet collar: and pockets at sides, moleskin vest, light trouseis lately washed ( either cord or moleskin), and lace- up boots. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hants Constabu- lary, Aldershot,— Bow- street, November 15. Cbarg.' d on warrant with larceny.. as- a bailee of £ o 5a, at Holmfirth :— EDWARD RATCLIFFE, - 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, brown hair, a pork butcher, lost one eye; dressed in light cloth trousers, dark coloured shooting coat and vest, cap with peak, lace- up boots ; is well known at Oldham, Blackburn, and Huddersfield , stated he intended going to London. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Goodall, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, November 15. Absconded On 20th instant, charged with embezzlement: — JAMES GRIFFITHS, alias WM. ERNEST CAMP- BELL, alias WM. CUTHBERT, 30 years of age, 5 ft. 7 ins. high, slight builr', black hair and mous'ache, dink heavy eye- brows, high forehead, sallow complexion, long haggered face, supposed clean shaved, , long thin hands, walks quickly, and of gentlemanly appearance ; was convicted at Scarboro' in 1876, and sentenced to 18 months hard labour for fraudu- lent bankruptcy. Has bee:-, manager of the Imperial Albu- men Paper Company, and resided at No. 217, Cornwall- road, notting- hill. Warrant issued. £ 5 reward will be paid by the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W., for such information as may lead to liis arrest.— Bow- street, Nov. 15. Further information respecting GEO. CRAWSHAY, a journeyman watchmaker, advertised in Police Gazette of l( Jth July last, charged on warrant with larceny, was seen at Windsor, Berks, about 1st instant. _ t'l reward is otfered for his apprehension, if apprehended within 1 month from this data, upon application to Police Sergeant Joseph, Brynmawr, Breconshire, vi- ho holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 12. Charged at St. Ives, Hunts, with another man in custody, with stealing at St. Ives, on 27th ultimo, a. paper Parcel, containing 3 gross of reals of Cotton, part recovered ;— a man, from 40 to 4t> jeans of age, about o feet 10 inch ™ - high, proportionate build, brown hair, whisker.-" shaved off, bald on top of head, thick dark moustache; dressed in lung brown cloth waterproof coat,' light material, corduroy trousers and , vest, recently washed, black hard felt hat, light lace- up boots, j three plates on each heel, two at each side, one at each toe, moustache, chin shaved, tender and splay footed, dejected ap- penrance ; dressed in a black cloth coat, pockets on hips, single breasted, black cloth trousers, black hard round hat, and lace- up boots, much worn, has the appearance of a tramping tailor, carries a small box, wrapped up in a paper, nnder his arm, calls from house to house soliciting work. Information to Mr. Supt. Foll, Mon. Constabulary, or to Sergeant Williams, Mon. Constabulary, Tredegar, who holds warrant for his ap- prehension.— Bow- street, November 10. Stolen at Withington, between 10 a. m. and 12.30 p. m 2nd instant:— 4J yards of stair Carpet, 20 inches wide, leaf pattern, red and black centre, with green and black border. Supposed by a woman, about 50 years of age, rather stout ; dressed in a black dress, and cros barred shawl, black bonnet, had a red blotched face. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS Charged on warrant, at Manchester, with abduction :— GEORGE HANLON- LEES, about 46 years of age, 5 ' feet 3 inches high, slender build, dark brown hair, curly and parted in centre, ( grey eyes, brown moustache, no whiskers or beard, large white mote centre of right cheek. He is the principal of a theatrical company which in travelling about from town to town, and performinc; a piece entitled ' Le Voyage en Suisse'; and is accompanied by sn Actress, 15 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion and hair light blue eyes, flight scar on left temple, three small white pockmarks on left side of chin, slim figure, full bust. Information to the Acting Chief Constable of Manchester.— Bow- st- eet, Nov. 15. Description of THOMAS BEARD, alias JOHN MOORE, alias COCKNEY BILL, charged on warrant with fraudulently obtaining £ 22, at Ashbourne, on 20th ultimo :— he is 2S to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh com- plexion, light brown hair, blue eyes ; native of Manchester, is a. horse dealer, and is well known at Huddersfield, New- castle, Durham, Liverpool, and other places as a sharper ; dressed in drab suit, and black billycock hat. Information to Mr. Supt. McDonald, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- streets November 15. Absconded, charged on a warrant with fraud :— THOS. WOOLLETT, late of No. 101, Drury- lane, a clerk, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, slight whiskers and moustache, inclined to be sandy ; dressed in brown suit., and deerstalker hat. Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry,— Bow- street, November 15. Absconded, charged with fraud ;— WOOLFE ROSEN, late of 4, Bell Lane, Spitalfields, 45 years of age, 5 feet 3 ins. high, dark complexion, dark brown moustache, and tuft on chin ; dressed in dark clothes, black felt hat, a Russian. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, Metropolitan Police, November 12. £ Charged on a warrant with obtaining goods under false pretences :— OSWALD GUDGEON, late of 21, Great Win- chester- street, City, aud 4, Windsor- terrace, Sunneyside- road, Hornsey Rise about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, Roman nose, hair and moustache brown, small whiskers, shaved on chin ; dressed in black frock coat, light trousers, deerstalker hat, smart appearance. He was accompanied by a woman, about 30 years of age, stout and fresh looking. They left Harrogate by rail on the afternoon of 16th ultimo, for Leeds. He had in his possession a number of dock warrants of the London and St. Catherine Dock Company, London, relating to bales of Tobacco, three of ' which he left as security for money advanced, which on enquiry turned out to be worthless. His practice seems to be to stay several days at an hotel, and then tender a worth- less cheque in payment of his account. Information to Mr. Supt.
