Xotlce.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may hear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that, an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, tegether with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ail betters addressed to the Editor must lie prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ® f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any - expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of ihe " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. On the night of 5th instant, there were set fire to and burnt :— 1 Clover Stack, 1 Bean Stack, and a portion of a Hay Stack, at Welland Ccurt Farm, Welland. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, or to Sergeant Walker, Police Station, Welland, ' near Upton- on- Sevem, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, November 12. On the night of 5th instant, there were set fire to and burnt :— a Barn and Stable, containing a quantity of Peas, Barley, and Beans, all unthrashed, all destroyed, at Mathon, near Malvern. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, or to Sergeant Drury, Police Office, Malvern, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, November 12. ROBBEEY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen by means of burglary, from the Ring of Bells, Yardley, on 10th instant:— 7 dessert Prongs, 3 table Spoons, 3 pair of sugar Tongs, 10 or 12 egg Spoons, a dozen tea Spoons, all nickle' silver, and flower or lily pattern ; a sauce Ladle, 3 dessert Spoons, 2 pairs of sugar Tongs ( large size), 2 salt Spoons, 2 Salts ( shell pattern), 2 decanter Stands ( one of which has crest of bit, on bottom), a mustard Spoon, a totter Dish, Cover and Stand ( aiodel of cow on top), all plated ; a silver dessert Knife, with fancy pearl handle ; a pair of gold Spectacles, with pebble glasses; a pair of diamond Ear- rings, diamonds set iu silver and gold clasps, • very old fashioned ; a damask table Cloth, small square pattern, mark ' B. and E. Spittle' in corner, small cut in centre ; and about £ 2 in silver Coins. Information to Mr. Supt Yardley, Acocks Green, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, November 12. During the night of 31st ultimo, the residence of His Grace the Duke of Somerset, Bulstrode- park, Gerrard's Cross, Bucks, was burglariously broken into and stolen therein :— a black cloth Cloak, 9 ft. long, lined with brown fur, worn and torn at the armholes, and fastens with thick braid round the ' buttons ; a black cloth Jacket, collar, cuffs, and skirt trimmed ' with black or brown fur; a lady's grey waterproof Cloak, is a size far larger than would be found at any reidy made 1 shops, and has a cornered square collar instead of a hood ; a bracket Clock, gold face, marble frame, and gilt handle at top ; a Candlestick, is of a column and goat pattern, aud is electro I type ; and a brown Railway Rug, recovered. Information ] to Mr. Supt. Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- , street, November 10. Further description of EDWARD WILSON, alias FRANCIS BARING, and EDWARD LLOYD, charged ' with the burglary at Baverstock Rectory, near Salisbury, ad- vertised in Police Gazette, of 19th July last:— is now wearing long whiskers and moustache, and in company with a man named THOMAS CLIFFORD, see Nos. 2 and 26 in the group of photos, on iliostrated description of convicts and others at large, sent from the Criminal Investigation Depart- ment ; they are both dressed as dealers, - wearing long soft • brown leather leggings, and overcoats. Information to Chief Constable Sterne, Police Station, Devizes, Wilts.— Bow- street, Nov. 10. During the night of 7th instant, a house at Broxbourae, Herts, was burglariously entered, aud stolen therein :— a pair of youth's Drawers, white ; a Pillow- case ; an old Towel, all marked ' G. Raincock '; a pair of Boots, elastic- side ; a pair of child's button Boots ; a carving Knife and Fork ; a poultry Carver ; eight large white- handled Knives; six or seven small ditto ; five plain electro silver tea Spoous ; an old silver tea Spoon, ' G. H. R.' marked on handle : three electro Forks, King's pattern ; s; x nickel silver Forks ; three metal table Spoons ; three ditto tea ditto ; about two doz- n old electro Forks, King's pattern ; and ten dessert Spoons, bead pattern, all the plating worn off, some of the small knives marked ' Benetfink,' and some ' Stutter,' the large ones various makers. Also stolen by means of burglary, the same night:— two pairs of kid Boots, elastic sides, sizes 6 aud 4 ; four Half Crowns ; fourteen Farthings ; a white Table Cloth ; a Tray Cloth ; a gauze Veil, black ; curving Knife and Fork, white bone handles ; very old German silver Fork ; metal Spoons ; and a brown twill Umbrella. Stolen by means of burglary, at Warehorn, Kent, on 6th instanta black cloth Overcoat, a brown do., a single- breasted grey plaid Coat, all have pockets on hips and inside breast ; a pair of light lace- up Boots ; 2 silver tea Spoons ; 12 plated do.; 2 do. dessert Spoons; 4 plated Forks, two large, and two small ; a large plate- 1 prize Cup, quite plain ; and a foal's skin Pocket Book, containing business papers. Some of the articles are marked with a crest of two wolves, some with one wolf, with its tail down, and others with an eagle in a shield. Two men suspected of committing the burglary were traced to Malvern Railway Station on the morning of the robbery, and from thence to Worcester and Birmingham ( they were carrying a carpet bag each) : one is from 35 to 40 years ol age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes; the other is from 30 to 33 years of age, light hair, sandy whiskers, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed iu dark clothes aud hard flat top hat. £ 100 reward will be paid by Mr. Biddulph on the recovery of the property, or in proportion to its value, aud the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to the Chief Constable of Hereford- shire, Shire hall, Hereford, or to Mr. Supt. Blunsden, Police Office, Ledbury.— Bow- slreet, November 8. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Kyre, near Tenbury on 2ud instant :-- a pair cased silver Watch, No. 380, a small I piece broken off dial at figures 6 and 12 ; a silk Handkerchief, twill; and a cotton do., twill. Supposed by a man, from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark com- : piexion, dark whiskers round face ; dressed in dirty slop, 1 dark trousers, billycock hat, and heavy boots; had the appearance of a labourer, aud was going in the direction of 1 Bromyard, Herefordshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Hardman, Great Witley, Stourport, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, November 8. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found at Stoke- by- Nayland, on 4th instant:— an iron grey cob Mare, in harness when found, but no trace of any cart, in good condition, recently clipped, chip kneed, between 13 and 14 hands high, and aged. Supposed stolen. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Chapman, Boxford, Colchester, or to P. C. Noller, Stoke- by- Nayland, Suffolk.— Bows'., Nov. 10. The grey Pony, Cart and Harness, described in Police Gazette, of 5th instant, as stolen from Great Yarmouth, by TENTON LADBROOKE, alias COOPER, have been re- covered by the Suffolk Constabulaiy. Ladbrooke has not yet been arrested. Information to Chief Constable Ogden, Great Yarmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- s'reet, November 10. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Further information respecting GEO. CRAWSHAY, a journeyman watchmaker, advertised in Police Gazette of 10th July last, charged on warrant with larceny, was seen at Windsor, Berks, about 1st instant. £ 1 reward is offered for his apprehensiou, if apprehended within 1 month from this date, upon application to Police Sergeant Joseph, Brynmawr, Breconshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 12. Charged at St. Ives, Hunts, with another man in c JSt vf •, with stealing at St. Ives, on 27th ultimo, a paper i^ a; jel, containing 3 gross of reals of Cotton, part recovered :— a mau, from 40 to 4 j years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, proportionate build, brown hair, whiskers shaved off, b. ild on to]> of head, thick dark moustache ; dressed in long brown cloth waterproof coat, light material, corduroy trousers and vest, recently washed, black hard felt hat, light hice- up boots, tbrte- p'. •.• it each heel, two at each sale, one • ' it each toe, and two in centre C'f each s ile, white necktie, check cotton shirt, over another one ; said he had been iu the. 1st Dragoon Guards. Phipps, & Co. io any person or persons giving such information ai will lead to his apprehension. Information to Chief Coustable Keeuan, Northampton.— Bow- street, Nov. 10. Stolen at Seacombe, on 15th ultimo :— a silver lever Watch, and heavy gold albert Guaid, recovered; a gold Locket, with blood stone on one side, and white stone on the other, fastened with two plain brass links ; a dark blue cloth shooting Coat, bound with braid, 2 pockets in skirts behind, and 1 inside each breast, ch, th liniug, and cloth covered buttons to match ; a siugle breasted loll collared Vest, of same material, bound with braid, pockets on each side, and small watch pocket. By GEORGE MORRIS, about 20 years of age, 5 feet" 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion, dark eyes, d irk brown hair cut very short, no whiskers or moustache, slight build ; and when last seen was dressed in grey tweed suit, low hard felt hat, and lace- up boots. Description of ROBERT TACKABURY, charged with larceny as a bailee of a watch, at New Brighton, oil 2 Lst Sept. last : — he is a watch maker, about 25 years of age, G feet high, slender build, sallow complexion, grey eyes, daik brown hair, whiskeis aud moustache ; dressed iudark cloth clothes, rather shabby, long overcoat, and low boots ; was last heard of at Bradford, which town he left early iu October last. Infor- mation to Mr. Chief Supt. Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead. — Bow- strect, November 10. Charged on a warrant with embezzleing £ 52 17s. 5Jd., the property of the Overseers of the parish of Hordley :—. JOHN" HENRY DAVIES, late schoolmaster at Hordley, aud assistant overseer for the same parish, he is about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, rather spare build, dark complexion, black hair, sometimes worn over the foreheard, dark brown whiskers and slight moustache; fashionably dressed in a small hard rouud black bat, black diagonal cloth coat, and grey cloth trousers and vest ; he is fond of foot- balling, cricketing, billiards aud bagatelle, last known place of residence No. 4, Boot Passage, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Walters, Police Station, Elhsmere, who holds the warrant. — Bow- street, NoVember 10. Absconded from Blaina, on 29th ultimo, changed with stealing 3 Watches, lst a silver lever Watch, recovered ; 2ud, a single case silver verge Watch, open face, white dial, black figures, No. 21464, small second hand, and a cap on works ; 3rd, au open face Germau silver Watch, white dial, black figures, dial cracked, dent in cases, near the spiing, tteel Chain attached :— FREDERICK STOW BRIDGE, a tramp- ing watch and clock maker, a native of Newton Abbot, Devonshire, about 45 to 47 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ruches high, proportionate made, rather sallow complexion, dark brown hair, turning grey, whiskers at side of face, heavy moustache, chin shaved, tender and splay footed, dejected ap pearance ; dressed in a black cloth coat, pockets on hips, single breasted, black cloth trousers, black hard round hat, and lace- up boots, much worn, has the appearance of a tramping tailor, carries a small box, wrapped up in a paper, under his arm, calls from hmse to house soliciting work, Information to 2 November 12 Mr. Supt, Foll, Mon. Constabulary, or to Sergeant Williams, Mon. Constabulary, Tredegar, who holds warrant for his ap- prehension.— Bow- street, November 10. Stolen at Withington, between 10 am. and 12.30 p. m 2nd instant:— 4. J Yards of stair Carpet, 20 inches wide, leaf pattern, red and black centre, with green and black border. Supposed by a woman, about 50 years of age, rather stout; dressed in a black dress, and cross barred shawl, black bonnet, bad a red blotched face. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester. — Bow- street, November 10. Stolen at Redcar, cn 4th instant :— a pair of cord Trousers ; and a blue cloth tight- fitting double- breasted Coat, two buttons behind, ( trousers since found pledged at Middles- borough). By a mau, 27 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, face much freckled, red or ginger hair, whiskers, and moustache, stout figure ; dressed in grey coat, white slop underneath, moleskin trousers, dark hard felt - hat, light coloured muffler, low shoes, much worn, metal boot protestors on soles, has the appearance of a plasterer; speaks with a South country accent; states that his parents reside at Whitby ; he had some printed papers in his possession which he stated he had received from the Governor of a Prison in London. Information to Mr. Supt. Clarkson, Guisborougb, North Riding Yorkshire.— Bow- street, November 8. Charged on warrant, with embezzleing npwards of £ 500 in Manchester:— a man 2S to 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark frizzy hair, parted in the centre, dark eyes, large prominent nose, rather heavy lips, sallow complexion, longish features, good teeth, no beard, slight moustache ; dressed in a suit of black cloth, black cloth Chesterfield overcoat, aud silk hat; he absconded on the evening of 3rd instant, and had with him a small square tin box, oval top, with handle on the top. 20 guineas reward. Information at Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow street, November 8. Description of GEORGE RAMSELL, alias BOLT, charged with stealiug a silver Watch ( recovered) :— about 44 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sallow complexion, clean shaved on chin, small ria'k whiskers ; dressed in old black jacket aud trousers, old elastic- side boots, usually wears an old brown apron with bib, and goes about seiliDg pens and needles; lived in Shrewsbury for about 18 month, has a brother living at Brownhilb, Staffordshire ; he left Shrews- bury on 30th ultima the day on which the robbery was com- mitted. Information to Mr. Supt. Howells, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Lear, Meole Brace, Shrewsbury, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, November 8. Absconded about 13th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 650, in French Bank Notes and Money :— ADOLPH KAUFMANN, late of No. 1, Crown Court, Threadneedle- st„ and No. 3, Colville Gardens, Bayswater, about 50 years of aye, f> 11 inches high, hair, whiskers aud moustache dark, turning grey, hooked nose, foreign appearance ; and dresses respectably." Information to Inspector McWilliam, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. — Bow- street, Novcmcer 8. Stolen between 12 noon, and 1 p. m. 2nd instant, from a clothes line at Haslingden : — two men's Shirts, of blue sateen cloth, one with a narrow red and white stripe, the other with a narrow red stripe only :- » suspicion attached to a man, supposed to be hawking, as he carried a small box, similar to Hudson's dry soap boxes, under his arm, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark whiskers dressed in a black coat, white fuatiau trousers, and black- billy- cock hat. Information at County Police Office, bacup.— * t., November 8. Absconded from Stroud, on 28th ultimo, charged under a warrant with stealiug 6 Coats, five recovered :— ARTHUR TOWNSEND, 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light brown hair, h;> z- 1 eyes, fresh complexion, and stoops a little when walking; die- sad in a loose dark jacket, imitation sea'- skin waistcoat, dr. ik trousers, hard black felt hat, elastic- side boots ; has been employed as an errand boy, but lately in the Post Office. Aud GEORGE BAKER, 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, daik brown hair, brown eyes, fresh complexion, freckled underneath eyes ; uressed in a suit of dark grey tweed, hard black felt hat, elastic- side boots, and is a butcher by trade. They are supposed to be making for London, fur the purpose of enlisting. Information to Mr. Supt. Philpott, Police Station, Stroud, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, Nov. 8. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described.) On the evening of 12th September, a Packet of Dynamite was placed on the London and North Western Railway, between Bushey and Watford ; and a similar substance was procured on 2nd September, by a person of the following description :— 10 to 45 years of age, about 5 feet 9 or 10 ins. high, rather stout build, black moustache and imperial, remainder of face and chin shaved, giving a fictitious address at the Charing Cross Hotel, aud writing a baud of which the following is a fac- simile : £ 100 will be similarly paid by the London and Northwestern Railway Company. And notice is hereby further given, that Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department has signified his intention of recommending, that Her Majesty's most gracious pardon shall be granted to any accomplice in the said felony— not being the actual per- petrator thereof— who shall gipi such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction as aforesaid. Infor- mation to the Director, Great Scotland Yard.— Metropolitan Police, Nov. ruber 8. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded, charged with fraud :— WOOLFE ROSEN, late of 4, Bell Lane, Spitalfields, 45 years of age, 5 feet 3 ins. high, dark complexion, dark brown moustache, and tuft on chin ; dressed in dark clothes, black felt hat, a Russian. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, — Metropolitan Police, November 12. | Charged on a - \ rraut with obtaining goods under false pretences :— OSWALD GUDGEON, late of 21, Great Win- chester- street, C\ t'\ and 4, Windsor- terrace, Sunneyside- road, Hornsey Rise about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, Roman nose, hair and moustache brown, small whiskers, shaved oa chin ; dressed in black frock coat, light trousers, deerstalker hat, smart appearance. Known on T and Y Division, Metropolitan Police. Information to Inspector Me William, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow street, November 12. Charged with obtaining Money by false pretences, at Harrogate :— THOMAS PALMER, states he is a member of I a firm styled Palmer, Cross, & Co., Bristol, 35 to 38 years of | age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion, brown whiskers and moustache, cut square, hair cut short, shaves at chin, rather slender build ; dressed in a light brown suit, and low hat ; he is of gentlemanly appearance, steps sharply, and appears somewhat irritable in his manner. He was accompanied by a woman, about 30 years of age, stout and fresh looking. They left Harrogate by rail on the afternoon of 16th ultimo, for Leeds.
