It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Tn custody, charged with forgery, two Frenchmen :— One gives the name of ERNEST COOKE, about 40 years of ago, about 6 feet 6 inches high, proportionate build, brown hair, whiskers aud moustache, turning grey. The other ERNEST TREVILLE, about 18 years of age, . about 5 feet 6 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, few whiskers down side of face. They havo been passing at Derby, in the name of Cooke, Brown, & Co., Wine, Spirit, and Provision Merchants, Export and Import; Messrs. Bennett, Central Bank, Derby; and Mans. Lincoln, Agents for Commercial Security, Nottingham. They send large orders for butter, eggs, & c., to France aud Spain, in the name of Cook, Brown, and Co., and give for reference Mr. Bennett, Central Batik, Derby ; Mons, Lincoln, Nottingham, which arc one anil the same people In their possession were found Bill- heads, showing they had | wssed at Southampton in the name of M. C. De Yollick, The Bank, Southampton ; also E. A. Allen and Co, Whole- salc- houso Merchants, Shipping Agents, and Wholesale Butter Dealers. At Brighton, iu name of Emmanuel E. De Mosley, Oporto and Lisbon, Commercial Bank, Branch Establishment; and Messis Baker aud Co., Wholesale- house for Foreign Produce, Imjiort and Export, 21, West- street At Hull, in names of A. Wilson and Co., Limited, Wine aud Spirit Merchants, Provisions for Steamers, Import and Export, alBO Agents for Commercial Security, Manager Mons. Butt; aud a large quantity of French Correspondence. They are accompanied by a youth, 16 years of age, a Frenchman and a French woman ( said to be Cooke's wife), and three young children. Information to Chief Constable Delacombe, Derby.— Bow- street, November 1. Absconded on 19th ultimo, charged with forgery, fraud, and embezzlement :— EDWIN or EDWARD FRANCIS, 35 years of ago, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, sallow cotuploxion, black hair and moustache, no whiskers, thin face, small features, large grey eye?, dirty irregular teeth, walks quickly, and throws out tho right foot; dressed in light over- coat, ( lark walking under do., dark trousers. Is an excellent mechanic ( ironworker and moulder), native of Stratford- on- Avon, has been employed at Melbourne, Cambridgeshire, Rugeley, and kuown at Burton- on- Trent aud Llandudno. Has a cheque book, cheques Nos. H 087829 to 087920, Messrs. Glyn, Mills, & Co., which he tuay try to utter. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, November 1. old Geneva Watch ; a silver lever stop Watch, with the name of ' Robert Thompson' engraved on works, also a date ; a silver lever Watch, No. 19521, maker's Lister and Sons, Newcastle ; a silver lever Watch, cream coloured dial, gold iiires ; 2 long gold Guards, single links, common pattern ; a lady's long gold Guard, small round pattern, with gold Key as appendage ; and a gold Necklace, with Locket attached ; also £ 8 in Silver, £- 2 in. Gold, and a French Sovereign. Infor- mation to Chief Constable Anderson, North Shields.— Bow- street, October 27. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person in Market Drayton Fair, on 25th ultimo :— 2 gold Watches, one English Lever centre second stop Watch, No. 21318, ' W. H. B.' engraved on back of case, BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglar)', during the night. of 31st ultimo, from Burhill Farm, Horsham :— 6 dessert Spoous, plated ; 2 pairs of laced Boots, one pair woman's size, one man's size; 2 Ulsters, woman's size, one grey, the other brown ; 6 yards of Flannel, grey with white strips ; 1 counter- pane, honeycomb pattern, with fringe ; 1 black Bonnet, red flower with wreath of leaves. A man, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark whiskers round face and chin ; dressed iu dark coat or vest with sleeves, rather high black felt hat, was seen in the bedroom. Information to Mr. Supt. Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chcrtsey.— Bow- street, November 3. Stolen between 11 p. m. 1st, and 5 am. 2nd instant, at Southampton, the followiug silver articles :— a wine Strainer ; table Spoons; a gravy Spoon; 4 dejseit Spons; a sugar Spoon ; a mustard Sppon ; 3 small Forks ; a sauce Ladle; a sugar Sifter; a pair of sugar Tongs; 2 knife Rests; 2 egg Cups; aid a butter Knife, all engraved ' T. C. B.'; 6 tea Spoons ; 4 dinner Forks ; and 6 fish Forks, all engraved ' G. M. K.' and ' T. C. B.'; 2 salt Cellars with Spoons ; 2 egg Spoons, all engraved either ' G. M. K.' or T. C. B.' 4 fish Knives, bearing maker's name ' T. T. and Company '; a tea caddy Spoon ; a fish Slice; and a pair of heavy framed Speotaoles, the side- i of which ilrair mit, ; a pair of small ivory opera Glasses. Stolen by means of burglary, on the night of 31st ultimo from the dwelling- house of Miss Mabbs, High- street, Brent- wood :— 4 silver plated table Spojns, marked ' M.'; 12 silver dated tea Spoons, marked ' M.'; 13 silver plated dessert Spoons, some marked ' J. E. T.' and ' M. A. W.'; 4 silver plated salt Spoons ; 2 large silver plated Forks, one marked ' M. P.'; 7 small silver plated Forks, one marked ' M. P.'; 1 white handle butter Knife ; 6 table Knives ; 5 dessert Knives ; 1 woman's grey Ulster, with cape ; 1 pair of woman's side- spring Boots ; 1 sewing Machine, without stand, makers Wilcox and Gibbs. By 3 men, one about 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, heavy black moustache, no beard or whiskers, oval visage ; dressed in dark grey vest, trousers, and jacket, round hard felt hat. Another about 35 years of age, pale complexion, short stubby whiskers, no moustache, oval visage ; drest e 1 in black cloth vest, trousi rs, and coat. The other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches or 6 feet high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, heavy light moustache; dressed in dark suit, and high silk hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Dobson, Constabulary Office, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, November 3. During the night of 28th ultimo, a burglary was com mitted at the residence of Lady Ashburton, ft Melshet- park, near Whiteparish, but no property missing. There were foot marks of two persons round the house, both wearing goloshes. During the same night the residence of Colonel Dttrey, at Broxmure- park, near Whiteparish, was burglariously broken into and stolen therein :— two silver Candlesticks, engraved under the bottom ' Legacy left by John Sherwell to R Bristow, Esq., 1720 ;' a silver Snuif Box ; eight silver Tea Spoons and a Dessert ditto, with crest— an eagle standing on a crescent; a pair of Sugar Tongs, same crest; a silver Cruet Stand and five Bottles with silver tops ; a gold Seal, onyx handle, with coat of arms ; a ditto, chaise and horses. P., Ledbury, Here- fordshire :— 2 soup Ladles, 47 table Spoons, 14 tea Spoons, 36 dessert Spoons, 48 table Forks, 6 gravy Spoons, 28 dessert Forks, 12 salt Cellars, 12 salt Spoons, 3 pairs of Sugar Tongs, 12 dessert Forks from a case, 2 sugar Basins, a small Teapot, 8 sauce Ladles, a pair of ice Tongs, 3 muffineer Salts, 12 gilt dessert Spoons, 8 antique ( table) Spoons, 2 sugar Sifters, an odd mustard Spoos, 2 gold Spoons in case, an odd dessert Spoon, 2 fish Knives, a butter Knife, 2 pairs of Nut- crackers, a pepper Sifter, 2 ice Spades, 2 cheese Scoops, 3 marrow Spoons, a pair of grape Scissors, 7 Skewers, 9 wine Labels, 4 sauce Labels, a pair of tall Candlesticks ( antique), a tea Kettle aud Stand, a hot milk Jug, 2 cream Jugs, 2 small Waiters, an oval outre Dish and Cover, a mustard Pot, 2 mustard Spoons, pepper Pot, 2 tea Scoops, a Ring with gilt Seals on it, flower Vase, 2 children's Mugs ( one with ' Jack' on bottom) Some of the articles are markad with the crest of one wolf, some with two wolves, aud others with an eagle. £ 20 reward will be paid by Mr. Biddulph on the recovery of the property and the conviction of the offender or offenders. Informatiou to the Chief Constable of Herefordshire, Shire Hall, Hereford or to Mr. Superintendent Blunsden, Police Office, Ledbury.— Bow- street, November 1. Stolen by means of housebreaking, in Tynemouth between 6 and 9 p. m. 21th instant;— a gold wedding Ring HOUSE AND CATTLE STEALING. During the night of 31st ultimo, the residence of His Grace the Duke of Somerset, Bulstrode- park, Gerrard's Cross, Bucks, was burglariously broken into and stolen therein ;— a black cloth Coat, 9 ft. long, lined with brown fur; a black cloth Jacket, collar, cuffs, and skirt trimmed with black or browil fur; a lady's waterproof Cloak ; a bracket Cloak, gold facc, marble fame, and gilt handle at top ; a silver- plated Candle- stick, and a brown Railway Rug. Ameuded description of WILLIAM CHAMBERLIN, charged with stealing a Horse, Trap, and Harness at Ludgers Wall, on 15th ultimo, advertised in Police Gazette of 22nd ultimo :— he is about 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion, email dark moustache, no whiskers; of good address and gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in dark tweed coat and vest, light tweed or dark mixture trousers, very low crown bowler hat v. ith the Royal Arms and ' J. B. Pritchard, 1, Brittox, Devizes,' stamped on the silk lining inside, black silk necktie, and stand- up collar. His parents rsside at 25, Phil pot- street, Stepney, London. He is well known in the neighbourhood of Pimlico- road, London, and Overton, Hants. Stolen from a field at Oldfield, Chetton, during the night of 22nd instant:— a black mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, small white spot on off side, underneath the saddle, tail cut short, and one shoe off the off fore foot. Information to Mr. Supt. Galliers, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Tiler, Mor- ville, Salop.— Bow- street, October 29. Stolen from a meadow at Oxted, Surrey, during the night of 24th instant:— a dark brown mare Pony, aged, 14 hands high, off fore foot white, a little white on near fore foot, tail has beon cut, in good condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Redford, Surrey Constabulary, Godstone.— Bow- strcet, Oct. 29. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. RICHARD STYLES ( advertised in the Police Gazette of 27th ultimo, charged with embezzlement) has been appre- hended, and sentenced to six months' imprisonment.— Bow- st., Novemcer 3. Stolen from Windsor, on 29th ultimo a costermonger's Barrow, painted green, has a star on the front, and initials on each side 1 J. F.' burned in. By a man who stated his name was EDEN, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, light moustache, and side whiskers ; wore a white apron, and was respectably dressed. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. Supt. Hayes, Police Office, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- street, November 3. Stolen about 6 a. m. on 29th ultimo, from a lodging- house at Uttoxeter :— a pair of grey tweed Trousers, Jfly fronts, man's size ; a grey tweed Vest, man's size, both nearly new ; a white linen Shirt, nearly new, and man's size ; a coloured Shirt, nearly new, and man's size; a dark woollen Ulster Cloak, worn, black buttons on sleeves and down the front, with plain hood pointed on the back ; a pair of leather lace- up Boots ( child's), nearly new ; 8 yards of brown- corded Dress Piece ; and 4 yards of slate- coloured Lining. By a man who lodged in the house the previous night, 21 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 7 inches high, light complexion, light, curly hair, light moustache, and whiskers and beard shaved ; dressed in old dark t. weed jacket, corduroy trousers,', black hard felt hat, and old elastic side boots. His name is supposed to be FLORENCE BRIGHT BROUGH, a native of Stafford, who is wanted in that and neighbouring towns for similar offences. He talked much about Stafford, Loughborough, Burton- on- Trent, Rugeley, & c. Information to Mr. Supt. Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant White, Town Hall, Uttoxeter. — Bow- street, November 3. Charged with stealing, at Burton- ou- Trent, on 28tli ultimo, a Bag containing 5 gold stone Brooches ; 2 fine gold square Brooches ; 10 silver Necklets ; 8 silver albert Chains ; and 4 silver beals ; a Parcel containing Jewellery, Ear- lings with gold birds : 8 rolls of silver Brooches aud Ear- rings :— a labourer, 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresli complexion, dark liair, no whiskers or moustache, very dirty appearance ; dressed in black round hat, dark jacket, and cortl trousers. Information to Mr. Supt. Harston, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire— Bow- street, November 1. Stolen on 18th ultimo, from a beer- house, in Reading :— a b'ack cloth Coat; a ditto Vest; two grey Vests ; a pair of dark coloured Troiwrp, with broad stripe; a hard round felt 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. By GEORGE HAMPSTEAD, alias THOMAS BARTER, 24 years of age, 5 feet 7J inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, and light moustache ; a private of the 49th Regiment, his uniform was left behind ; was discharged from Mdlbank Prison, on 7th September last. Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading, Berks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bov- street, November Charged with stealing a silver Geneva hunting Watch from his lodgings, Stoke- on- Trent, on 23rd ultimo :— CLARENCE BRIGET BROUGH, a native of Stafford, about 23 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, pale com- plexion, dark hair and moustache ; has been a steward ou board ship. Information to Mr. Supt. Bowen, Sloke- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 1. Stolen on 26th ultimo, from No. 3, Castle - squarti Beading ;— a large metal consular Watch, maker Hancock. Winchester, No. 10316. By WALTER BULL, about 18 vears of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fi eah complexion, brown hair ; dreased , ia brown slop or jacket, cord trousers, aud billycock hat, clothing very dirty and shabby ; is a uative of Newbury, Berks. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Purchaso, Borough Police Station, Reading, Berks, who holds a wwrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 1. Description of JOHN CHAPMAN, leather dresser, late of Hnugertord, Be- ks, charged on a warrant with stealing a Sovereign, at Shcro, on * th instant:— about 28 years of age, ;> feet - 1 inches high, fair complexion, no whiskers or mous- tache ; dressed iu light worsted cord trousers, and hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Barker, Surrey Constabulary, G uildford.— Bow- strest, October 29. Charged with stealing, at Aldershot, on 15th instant :— * short brown Coat and Waistcoat, with red stripes iu squares ; a pair of brownish check Trousers, buttons marked ' Beer, exeter'; a pair of greyish striped Trousers, bultous marked ' Cutler and Reed, St. James'- street'; a black ribbed cutaway cloth Coat, with tail and side pockets; a pair of shooting Boots with nails around soleB and heels; a white Shirt, warked ' R. F. Cumming'; a black and white shepherd's itlaid squash Hat. A man, 27 yfears of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, heavy dark mous- tache aud eyebrows, no whiskers. Late a soldier in the Army Hospital ^ Corps, formerly belonged to the 9th Foot, is well known as an Army Reserve man at Falmouth and Exeter, aud is supposed to be a native of Lauccelles, Stratton, Corn- wall, aud is probably wearing a portion of the stolen clothes. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hants Constabu- lary, Aldershot.—- Bow- street, October 29. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described.) Absconded from Brierley Hill, ^ charged with rape, on 4th ultimo, in company witli 5 others now committed for trial- SAMUEL JONES, 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 ins. high, pale complexion, very light hair, grey eyes, slight build, a glassmaker; drtised in dark grey tweed jacket, old black cloth trousers and vest, lace- up boots, and hard low crowned black felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Brierly Hilt, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. —/-'• ^ 29. * " FRAUD'S AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded, obtaining money ( generally from solicitors) i by falsely representing herself to be the neice of a doctor at Hurbitou, gives the name of names of Miss BURY, WOOD- WARD, and JONES, states she has lost her hand- bag and irnrae iu it, and requires some money to pay her railway fare tome :— a woman 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion ; dress dark browu, black jacket and bonnet, spring- side boots, black kid gloves, ladylike appearance. In- formation to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W. — iletrovolitan Police, November 3. Description of a man who gave the namo of THOMAS KEMP, wanted on warrant, charged with fraudulently obtaining a Horse and Gig, from Thomas Page, Bell- street, Birmingham, on 15th instant :•- he is about 35 years of age, about 6 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, beard, aud mous- tache ; dressed in a dark suit, with long Chesterfield Over- coat. The Horse is a dun colour, with streak down centre of bask and shoulders, aged ; the Gig is old- fashioned, painted green and picked with white, drab cushions. Information to Chief Constable Bond, Police Office, Birmingham, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, October 29. Wanted for obtaining Money at Burslem, by falsely representing herself as a schoolmistress, recently discharged from the Roman Catholic School, Cheadle, Staffordshire :— a woman, about 21 years of age, about 5 feet high, dark round face, stoutly built; dressed in a round black straw hat, trimmed with black velvet, long biack cloth jacket, deeply trimmed with fur, and blue [ and white striped dress. She mmitioned the name of Rudkin, but that is not her name, and said she wanted money to carry her to West Hartlepool where she could have a situation as schoolmistress. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 29. Wanted on warraut for obtaining Cloods by false pieteuccs, at Paddock Wood, Brenohley, on 31st August last: — GEORGE WILLIAM SMITH, ( supposed late band ser- geant, F Troop, 17th Laucers), about 36 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion ; dressed in dark grey suit, and blue cloth overcoat; has ' Jane Cook' tattooed on one arm, several scars of wounds on chest, is vory short of breath, is likely to be found in some union, infirmary, or hospital, recently came d'.'. t of Cox Heath Union, near Maidstone, Kent, is a . good scholar, and brags of having a good pension ( supposed false).
