Xotlce.— It is requested that all communications for the pwpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the'person requiring or sending tho same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addf- essed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. ' Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should bo made and . sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with tho advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. Ae no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mnst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from, the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the MilUia, should ' he- forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as ahove, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards msit state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tbo reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the propeity, without the apprehension of the offender. 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, one had light moustache with very little whiskers, the other no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark tweed clothes, hard felt hats, nothing on their necks, one had on a red check Shirt. No. 9520 ; white dial, sunk seconds, point of seconds' finger broken ; had attached a brass linked Chain and common watch Key at the end. Stolen from the person, on 16th instant, in Oldham :— a gold English lever Watch, No. 0 SO, white dial, gold hands, plain cases, maker Severs, Cross- street, Manchester. Description of a man charged with housebreaking at Srocton, near Stafford, oil 23rd instant, anil stealing therefrom a black cloth twill Jacket, single- breasted, buttons to match, pockets behind, lined, with black lining ; a round black wois'. ed cord Jacket, pockets on hips ; and a p;. irof light grey Trousers, narrow stripe down outside of each leg :— from 20 to 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, slight dark whiskers, medium build, large red rash on one side of face ; dressed in dark jacket, supposed one of the stolen jackets, dark trousers, and black Muller hat. Was traced from Stafford in the direction of Stone, after com- mitting the offence. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, The Green, qr to Inspector Chaplain, Guildhall^ Stafford.— Bow- street, October. 27; Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Suave, Kent, between 10 a. m. and 9.30. p. m. on 17th instant: a double- breasted black frock Coat; a. ditto Vest and Trousers, fly fronts, new ; a double- breasted iron grey tweed Goat, pockets at hips and breast; a pair of ditto Trousers, fly fronts, new ; a pair of light colour brown plaid Trousers and Vest, new ; a dark green buck skin handkerchief Case, about 9 iuches square, with J- dozen white Handkerchiefs in it, marked ' J Marshell' in ink; a large white linen Apron, marked in corner ' T. Ticknor'; and a , small_ Jiheet, marked ' T. J Ticknor. Supposed by a3ttjgi_ wbo pawned - the stolen black suit, at Faversham, Kent, on 18th Instant, in the name of MARSHELL, and gavc. lys address Windsor, and he was then wealing the stolen iron grey tweed suit, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, rather slight, full sandy whiskers and moustache, red face; dressed in dark coat or jacket, dark tweed tiousers, very old, darned at knees, nailed boots, blacked and polished ; had the articles tied up in the apron or sheet. Charged on warrant with breaking into a warehouse at Longton on 20th instaiit, and stealing a wagon brace Stock, polished iron with wooden head, and eleven Bits, rano- incr from 5- 16ths to hi. WILLIAM COOK, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion, light sandy hair, large Roman nose, blean shaved, and lisps when speaking ; by trade a blacksmith, of drunken habits; dressed in light, stitched hat, old dark overcoat, and dark cord trousers. In- formation to Mr. Supt. McWilliams, Longton, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, October 22. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of JOHN CHAPMAN, leather dresser, late of Hungerford, Berks, charged on a warrant with stealing a Sovereign, at Shere, on 4th instant:— about 28 years of sge, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, no whiskers or mous- tache ; dressed in light worsted cord trousers, and hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Barker, Surrey Constabulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, October 29. Charged with stealing, at Aldershot, on 15th instant :— a short brown Coat and Waistcoat, with red stripes in square - ; a pair of brownish check Trousers, buttons marked ' Beei, Exeter'; a pair of greyish striped Trousers, buttons marked ' Cutler and Heed, St. James'- street'; a black ribbed cutaway- cloth Coat, with tail and side pockets ; a pair of sliootir : Boots with nails around soles and heels; a white Shirt, marked ' R. F. Cumming'; a black and white shepherd's plaid squash Hat. A man, 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches' high, fair complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, heavy dark mous- tache and eyebrows, no whiskers. Late a soldier in the Anny Hospital Corps, formerly belonged to the 9th Foot, is well known as an Army Reserve man at Falmouth and Exeter, anil is supposed to be a native of Launcelles, Stratton, Corn- wall, and is probably wearing a portion of the stolen clothes. Stolen from a stable at Babbins Wood, near Oswestry, on the night of 23rd instant:— a pair of tweed Trousers, black anij grey mixture, fall fronts, brown bone buttaas, calico lining ; a pair of elastic- side Boots, toe capped, .- nan's sl- e. much worn. By a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches h: g' , fresh complexion, stout build, small whiskers ; dressed in oia, Witney coat, supposed wearing dark slop underneath, cord trousers, and black billy hat; has the appearance of a farm ; « .' vo ® .' er, and follows threshing machines to farm houses. Stolen by means of housebreaking, in Tynemouth, between 6 and 9 p. m. 24th instant:— a gold wedding Ring ; a gold Geneva Watch ; a silver lever stop Watch, with the name of ' Robert Thompson* engraved on works, also a date ; : t silver lever Watch, No. 19521, maker's Lister and Sons, Newcastle; a silver lever Watch, cream coloured dial, gold tigures ; 2 long gold Guards, single links, common pattern ; a lady's long gold Guard, small round pattern, with gold Key as appendage j and a gold Necklace, with Locket attached; also i' 8 in Silver, £ 2 in. Stolen by means of burglary, from the Rectory at White Roothing, on 23rd instant :— a silver Inkstand, 12 inches in diameter, inscription ' Presented to the Rev. T. H. North by Lady Meux'; a small gilt Clock, inscription inside ' Presented by Earl and Countess of Listowell'; a small silver Match Box, marked ' C. M. C.'; a small gold Snuff Box, crest- Griffin's Head; a small silver Heart, about 1 « ins. long, very old, some initials scratched on it; a paper Knife with silver handle ; 2 silver pencil Cases ; a bunch of gold Seals, crests— one Nelson's Head, one Amethyst, crest— a flying horse. Supposed by two men, both about 23 years of nge, about HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING JOHN SHERWOOD SIGGERLY, described in Police Gazette of 6th instant, charged with stealing Pouy, Cart, and Harness, at North Walsham, Norfolk, was arrested on 25th inBtant, by the Bucks Constabulary.— Bow- street, Oc>. 29. Stolen from a field at Oldfield, Chetton, during the night of 22nd instant: — a black mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high, small white spot on off side, underneath the saddle, tail cut short, snd one shoe off the off fore foot. Information to Mr. Supt. Galliers, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Tiler, Mor- ville, Salop.— Bow- street, October 29. Stolen from a meadow at Oxted, Surrey, during the night of 24th instant;— a dark brown mare Pony -, aged, 14 hands high, off fore foot white, a little white on near fore foot, tail has been cut, in good condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Redford, Surrey Constabulary, Godstone.— Bow- street, Oct. 29. Charged with stealing a Horse, Trap, and Harness, at Ludgersha'. l, on 15th instant, they have since been recovered sold at Devizes :— WM. CHAMBERLAIN, junr., about 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 8- or 9 inches high, dark complexion, small dark moustache, of good address, and gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in dark tweed coat, light tweed trousers, and old tweed hat; his parents reside at 25, Pbilpot- street| Stepney, London ; he is well known in the neighbourhood of Pimlico, also at Overton, Hants. Information to Mr. Supt. Baldwin, Devizes, or to Mr. Supt. Wiltshire, Marlborough, Wilts.— Bow- street, October 22. Stolen at East Malling, Kent, about 7 p. m. on 18th instant:— a large bay Mare, half bred, ring bone on near fore foot, a mark on near flank where it has been gored by a bullock, in fair condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Hulse, Kent County Constabulary, West Malling.— Bow- st., Oct. 22. The chestnut Mare, described in Police Gazette of 13th instant, as stolen from Eltham, Kent, has been recovered, and WILLIAM WALKER, 172, Green- street, Bethral Green, London, is remanded at Woolwich until 23rd instant, for stealing the same, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, and brown hair ; diessed in black over- coat, light mixture undercoat, two pairs of trousers, one brown cloth, and one fustian, and soft felt hat. Information to the Description of a man who stole a pair of men's lace- up Boots, from Stafford, on 21st instant:— from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or ( i inches high, pale complexion, black hair, clean shaved, medium build, bald on top of head, trade a last maker; dressed in dark overcoat, dark trousers and versr, elastic side boets, and black hard felt hat, all much wcr: He is also wanted at Hanley, for larceny on 19tli instant, a black leather Satchell, being part of the property he stole at Hanley, which he had in his possession when at Stafford. He stated he was going to Birmingham, Northampton, and London, in search of work. Information to Deputy Chief Con- stable Oswell, The Green, or to Inspector Chaplain, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- streei, October 27. Stolen at Weymouth on 22nd instant :— a gold Gene/ ' Watch, recovered ; a single- breasted Chesterfield dark drab Overcoat, with fancy buttons, red and white check lining, four outside pockets,' Excelsior' on loop of collar. By a man, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, rather large nose, light curly hair ( cut short) and moustache, no whiskers, scar on one cheek and bridge of nose, military appearance ; dressed in a brown suit of clothing, red necktie, blue and black scarf, very low crown bowler hat, wore a ring with a dark heart- shaped stone, had also a double- cased silver watch, with gold Albert Chain, sida spring boots. Believed to have served in the Marine Artillery, sings comic songs at public- houses, and supposed to be making his way to Bristol or Plymouth. Stated his name at Weymouth as GEORGE KING, of Southampton, where his mother kept cabs, & c. At Southampton he stated his mother kept cabs, & c., at Brixton. Left at Weymouth a blue ribbed overcoat. This man is wanted at several places on the So. uth. Coast for robbery, and he lodges at respectable private houses stating his mother is coming in a few days, then absconds with any property he can take. Information to Mr, Supt Vickery, Police Office, Weymouth, Dorsetshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., October 27. Description of PETER SHARP, wanted on a warrant, charged with embezzlement, on Sth ultimo :— about 00 years of age, o feet 9 inches high, light brown hair, tinning grey, little or no whiskers, light moustache, is very deaf ; dressed in a grey suit, and high silk hat, walks very erect, and generally carries an umbrella or walking stick. He has a soi. in the drapery business in Manchester, and has friends residing at Hanley, Coventry, and Warwick. Information to Chief Constable Bond, Birmingham, who holds the warrant. — Bow- street, October 27. Description of ARTHUR GEORGE LYTTON SQUIRES, charged with larceny as bailee of a Gun :— he is about 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, blue eyes, light brown hair, fresh complexion, nose slightly turns up, and very slight moustache ; dressed in pepper- aud- salt mixture suit, black bowler hat, and wears two plain rings on little finger, one gold and one silver. Photo on application Information to Head Constable Coward, Borough Police Office, Guildhall, Dorchester, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension— Bow- street, October 27. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Davyhulme- lane, Croft's Bank, supposed on 21st instant :— 8 Sovereigns, and 2 Half Sovereigns. Supposed by a woman who was cleaning the house, on 31st instant, 18 years of age, dark brown hair, 2: POLICE GAZETTE. October 27 dressed in striped dress, red shawl, straw hat, with feathers. Her parents reside in Eccles, but she has not been with them for some time. Information at the County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, October 27. Stolen at Dorking, on 24th instant:— a silver Geneva " Watch, with a long black jet Chain attached; and a new black leather Purse, containing 7s. in Silver. By a man who lodged in the house, the two previous nights, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark hair and complex- ion, whiskers shaved off, turns his toes inwards when walk- ing ; dressed in dark clothes, and a black round crowned felt hat, carries an umbrella, and may wear blue spectacles. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Lambert, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking.— Bow- street, October 27. Charged with stealing a quantity of joiner's Tools and two Shovels ( recovered), at Grindon, near Leek, on 18th instant :- a man, 44 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy brown liair, scanty on front of head, light blue eyes, slender build, wound mark on ri^ ht forearm which has been broken ; dressed in old brown jacket, old black cloth vest, old cotton cord trousers, patched on knees, water- tight boots with toecaps, and light calico hat. He travels about the country, and occasionally is employed as a farm labourer. Information to Mr. Supt. Williams, Police Station, Leek, Staffordshire.-— Bow- street, October 27. Stolen at Hednesford, at 7 a. m. on 12th inst.::— an English silver lever Watch, a long silver Guard, and a gold- plated Locket, ( found pledged at Walsall); a dark tweed Jacket and Vest, quite new ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, a black silk velvet Vest, and a puce silk Neckerchief ( not yet recovered). By CHARLES SCOLTOCK, about 21 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, round full face, regular nose, no whiskers, light brown moustache, brown hair, good set of teeth, short neck, broad shoulders, and stout make ; a miner ; wore light lace- up boots with toe- caps, twill cloth cap, may be wearing some of the stolen clothes, as he left trousers and vest behind. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownhills ; or to Sergeant Grupie, Hednesford, near Cannock, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his arrest,— Bow- street, October 27. Wanted in Dumfries, on a charge of Breach of Trust and Embezzlement:— WILLIAM SLOAN, an accountant or debt collector, 24 years of age, looks older, about 5 feet II iuches high, reddish curly hair, small reddish moustache, whiskers supposed shaved off, round full face, two large teeth in front of upper jaw, florid complexion, stout made, smart appearance, slightly knock- kneed, and very polite when talking; dressed when last seen in a blue jacket, trousers supposed of same material, round hard felt hat, Lome shoes. When in Dumfries he issued the following card—' South of Scotland Debt Recovery Offices, 60, High- street, Dumfries, Debts up to £ 10 recovered for 2s. per £ Commission. All above £ 10, 5%.— No charge made where nothing recovered. — Books balanced, & c.— William Sloan, Manager.' Was ticket collector for 18 months at Annan Station when a boy, and was afterwards employed on the Railway at Dairy and Glasgow. Information , to Mr. Supt. Malcolm, Dumfries.— Bow- street, October 25. Charged on warrant with stealing £ 10 10s. in Gold, at Baslow, Derbyshire, on 11th instant:— JOHN PALMER, stone mason, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion; dressed in a dark mixture coat, woollen corduroy trousers, and lacc- up boots; has been in the Marines, and has also spent part of his time in America of which he talks a good deal. Information to Mr. Supt. Barker, Police Office, Bakewell, Derbyshire.— Bow street, October 25. Stolen at Slaugham, on 18th instant:— a dark brown mixture woollen Coat, with red stripes about an inch apart, single- breasted, one pocket in left breast, one on each hip, and ticket pocket right side ; a short black and white cloth Jacket, pocket each side; a silk Handkerchief: and an American Puzzle Match Box. By a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 incheB high, light complexion, rather sharp features, light brown hair. Was seen to put on the Coat and Jacket, and go towards Redhill. Information to Chief Office, Lewes, or to Mr. Supt. Pocock, Cuckfield, Hayward's Heath, Sussex.— Bow- street, October 25. Stolen on 12th instant, at Ellingham, Hants :— a plaid scarf Shawl ( recovered). By a man, from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, pale complexion, sandy hair and whiskers; dressed in black cloth coat, white jacket underneath, cord trousers and vest, the cord very broad, black soft felt liat, high in crown. Information to Mr. Supt. Brinson, Hants Constabulary, Ringwood.— Bow- street, Oct. 22. AbscoLdcd from Northampton, on 19th instart, stealing a leather Bug, ' P. Phipps & Co.' engraved on a brass plate, containing i332 in Gold and Silver ; about £ 500 in Cheques; a banker's Draft, for £ 175 14s. ; and £ 100 in Bank Notes, of which three or four are Bank of England, and endorsed ' P. Philips & Co.. 19 | 10 | 80 :— FREDERICK EUSTON EDMUNDS, about 30years of age, about 6 feet 1 inch high, sallow complexion, full face, thick neck, black hair, email dark moustache, no whiskers, thick lips, shows his teeth very much when speaking, holds his head a little forward, and has a slouching gait; dressed in a light overcoat, dar k trousers, and low felt hat. A reward of £ 25 will be paid by Messrs. Phipps and Co., for his apprehension, or for such information as shall lead to his apprehension. Information to the Chief Con- stable, Borough Police Office, Northampton. — Bow- street, October 22. Stolen from a public- house in Stockport, between 3 and 5 p. m. on 18th inst.:— a gentleman's treble milled morniDg Coat, has two pockets behind in laps, one outside left breast, one inside right breast, ticket pocket right side in seam of coat; a gentleman's Vest, has two ordinary pockets, and watch pocket left side, black cloth covered buttons; a pair of light fawn coloured tweed Trousers, bronze metal buttons, with Lewis's name thereon ; a white calico Bag, containing about £ 50 in Gold and Silver. By WILLIAM ELLIOTT, alias D. W. LAWRELL, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, dark eyes, very much sunk, hair parted in centre and brushes back at the sides, dark moustache, chin clean shaven, slender build, military appearance, good address, marked on right fore- arm from a bite, which is very red and about the size of a half- crown, also supposed to be tattooed on arm with flag, he left his old clothes behind, billiard marker, and has been employed as such at Brighton, Southport, and other places. £ 5 reward will be given on the apprehension of the thief and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Sto'en from High Lees Farm, Matlock, on 19th instant : — 1 hand Saw, broken handle, 1 ne, v shift Wrench, 3 steel Files, 2 Chisels, 2 Pincers, 3 Gimlets, 1 Hammer, a black billy Hat, aid a blue and white cotton Shirt, Supposed by a Warrant issued. Infor- Scotland Yard, S. W. tramping joiner, employed to do some odd jobs, said he came from Worcestershire, from 40 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, whiskers slightly sandy down sides of face, medium build, stoops forward when walking; dressed in a blue serge jacket, brown vest, light worsted cord trousers, and soft black billy hat. By FREDERICK WYMER, a deserter from the 10th Foot, a native of " Draxton, Norfolk, 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, brown eyes; deserted on 25th June, 1830, from Colchester, fraudulently enlisted in the Marines for which he is now undergoing a sentence of 6 months imprisonment. Stolen at Seacombe, on 15th instant:— a silver lever Watch, down hunter, plain cases and joints, white face, sunk seconds, gold hands, f- plate, letters ' Q and C ' inside case ; a very heavy gold albert Guard, curb pattern ; a gold Locket, with bloodstone on one side, and white stone on the other, fastens with two plain brass links ; a dark blue cloth shooting Co it, bound with braid, two pockets in skirt behind, and one inside each breast, cloth lining, and cloth covered buttons to match ; a single- breasted roll collared Yest, of same material, pockets on each side and small watch pocket, bound with braid. £ 2 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to amount recovered.
