Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, aii lietters addressed to the Editor must be jsrejtaidj otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and * E Absentees and Deserters from tlie Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rowards must state olearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tiie persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the propel ty, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." Stolen from the person in Preston, on the night of 14th instant:— a silver lever Watch, flat glass, white dial, gold hands, sunk seconds, gold hinges, No. 7237, maker' R. Scanlon, Preston,' on works. Charged on warrant with breaking into a warehouse at Longton on 20th instant, and stealing a wagon brace Stock, polished iron with wooden head, and eleven Bits, ranging from 0- 16ths to li in,:— WILLIAM COOK, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion, light sandy hair, large Roman nose, clean shaved, and lisps when speaking ; by trade a blacksmith, of drunken habits; dressed in light stitched hat, old dark overcoat, and dark cord trousers. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Snave, Kent, between 10 a. m. and 9.30. p. m. on 17th instant: a double- breasted black frock Coat; a ditto Test and Trousers, fly fronts, new ; a double- breasted iron grey tweed Coat, pockets at hips and breast; a pair of ditto Trousers, fly fronts, new ; a pair of light colour brown plaid Trousers and Vest, new ; a dark green buck skin handkerchief Case, about 9 inches square, with i- dozen white Handkerchiefs in it, marked ' J. Marshell' in ink; a large white linen Apron, marked in corner j' T. Ticknor'; anu a small Sheet, marked ' T. J. Ticknor. Supposed by a man about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, rather slight, full sandy whiskers and moustache, red face; dressed in dark coat or jacket, dark tweed trousers, very old, darned at knees, nailed boots, blacked and polished ; had the articles tied up in the apron or sheet. Stolen by means of housebreaking, in Chesterfield, on the evening of the 16th instant:— a silver lever Watch, No. 39563, engine- turning very much worn; a small gold lever Watch, lady's head enamelled on back ; a gold Guard, small links, with gilt Seal and Key and gold Locket attached, locket shape of a book, with swivel nearly worn through and tied with black thread ; a silver keyless Hunting Watch, without glass, gilt albert Guard attached; a silver Geneva Watch, 2 or 3 small old- fashioned silver Watches, and £ 5 in Gold. Supposed by two tramping painters :— oce about 5 feet 8 ins. high, stout build, and dressed iu dark suit, white slop under his coat; the other about 5 feet 9 inches high. Stolen by means of burglary, during the night of 12th instant, from the dwelling- house of Colonel Craig Osborne, Camberley, Frimley :— a silver Snuff- box, with a long inscrip- tion, including ' Presented to the Honorable Charles Osborne, by the Corporation of Dublin'; also several Indian ivory Ornaments, including a waggon drawn by bullocks. Between 1 a. m. and 7.30 a. m. on 14th instant, a grocers shop, at Aston, was broken and entered and . stolen therein :— 5 cads of scented caper Tea, 28i'o. each ; a double breasted Overcoat, black corded cloth, lined with grey lining, nearly new ; 2 pair of men's elastic- side Boots, recently been soled and heeled ; and a cash Box, containing Bills, & c. ^ Informa- tion la Mr. Supt. Gallaway, Constabulary Station, Aston, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, October 18. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen at East Malling, Kent, about 7 p. m. on 18th instant:— a large bay Mare, half bred, ring bone on near fore foot, a mark on near flank where it has been gored by a bullock, in fair condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Hulse, Kent County Constabulary, West Malling. — Bow- st., Oct. 22. The ckestr. ut Mare, described in Police Gazette of 13th instant, as stolen from Eltham, Kent, lias been recovered, and WILLIAM WALKER, 172, Green- street, Bethnal Green, London, is remanded at Woolwich until 23rd instant, for stealing the same, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, and brown hair ; diessed in black over- coat, light mixture undercoat, two pairs of trousers, one brown cloth, and one fustian, and soft felt hat. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W,— Metropolitan Police, October 22. Stolen from Cradley, near Malvern, on or about 20th ultimo :— a years old dark red Heifer, with some white on face, and under belly, cross bred, between a Hereford and short hort. Information to Mr. Woodhouse, Cradly Hall, near Malvern, or Mr. Supt,. Ovens, Herefordshire Constabu- lary, Bromyard.— Bow- st., Oc'ober 20. Charged with stealing 2 Donkeys, from Grimstone Fen, on 14th instant, since recovered :— DOLFREY BRINKLEY, a travelling tinker, about 16 years of age, 4 feet 10 or 11 ins. high, dark brown hair, thin face, and gipsy appearance ; dressed in an old long brown coat, with darker patch on right shoulder, and right breast, supposed cord trousers, tight legs, and skull cap. Information to Mr. Supt. Ward, Docking, or to Inspector White, Grimstone Police Station, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 20. Stolen from a field at Bentley, WilleDhall, during the night of 16th instant, property of James Lowe, of West Bromwich :— a brown cob Horse, 5 years old, 14 hands high, long mane and tail, white star on forehead, in good condition, shod all round. Pound, supposed stolen, in St. Martin's, on 6th instant:—• a dark brown, nearly black, waggon Geldiug, aged, about 15 hands 2 inches high, white star on forehead, white streak on off side of nose, near hind foot white, slightly lame on near hind leg, in good condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, Oswestry, or to P. C. Cole, The Lodge, Chirk, Ruabon.— Bow- strest, October 20. Description of a man who stole five Cows out of a field at Aldbrough, near Darlington, on the night of 5th instant, and sold them at Barnard Castle Market on the morning of 6th instant, to a cattle dealer, who paid him £ 85 ( thirteen £ o notes Backhouse BanK and £ 20 iu gold), the man then absconded :— he is 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair complexion, light hair inclined to be sandy* no whiskers or moustache, proportionate make, stoops when walking, had a large green shade over left ( supposed for a disguise) ; dressed in brown coat, black vest, black cloth trousers, hard felt, hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Gregory, North Riding Constabulary, Richmond, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, October 18. LARCEHY AID EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on 12th instant, at Ellingham, Hants:— a plaid scarf Shawl ( recovered). By a man, from 40 to 45 years of 2: POLICE GAZETTE. October 27 age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, pale complexion, sandy hair and whiskers; dressed in black cloth coat, white jacket underneath, cord trousers and vest, the cord very broad; black soft felt hat, high in crown. Information to Mr. Supt Brinson, Hants Constabulary, Ringwood.— Bow- street, Oct. 22" Absconded from Northampton, on 19th instart, stealing a leather Bag, ' P. Phipps & Co.' engraved on a brass plate, containing £ 332 in Gold and Silver ; about £ 500 in Cheques; a banker's Draft, for £ 175 Us. ; and £ 100 in Bank Notes, of which three or four are Bank of England, and endorsed ' P. Phipps & Co., 19 | 10 | 80 :— FREDERICK EUSTON EDMUNDS, about 30 years of age, about C feet 1 inch high, sallow complexion, full face, thick neck, black liair, small dark moustache, no whiskers, thick lips, shows his teeth very much when speaking, holds his head a little forward, and has a slouching gait; dressed in a light overcoat, dark trousers, and low felt hat. A reward of £ 25 will be paid by Messrs. Phipps and Co., for his apprehension, or for such information as shall lead to his apprehension. Information to the Chief Con- stable, Borough Police Office, Northampton. — Bow- street, October %% Stolen from a public house in Stockport, between 3 and 5 p. m. on 18th inst.:— a gentleman's treble milled morning Coat, has two pockets behind in laps, one outside left breast, one inside right breast, ticket pocket right side in seam of coat • a gentleman's Vest, has two ordinary pockets, and watch pocket left side, black cloth covered buttons; a pair of light fawn coloured tweed Trousers, bronze metal buttons, with Lewis's name thereon ; a white calico Bag, containing about £ 50 in Gold and Silver. By WILLIAM ELLIOTT, alias D. W. LAWRELL, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, dark eyes, very much sunk, hair parted in centre and brushes back at the sides, dark'moustache, chin clean shaven, slender build, military appearance, good address, marked on right fore- arm from a bite which is very red and about the size of a half- crown, also' supposed to be tattooed on arm with flag, he left his old clothesjbehind, billiard marker, and has been employed as such at Brighton, Southport, and other places. £ 5 reward will be given on the apprehension of the thief and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Infor- mation to the nearest Police Station, or to Chief Constable Staples, Stockport,— Bow- street, October 22. Charged with stealing a Horse, Trap, and Harness, at Ludgershall, on 15th instant, they have since been recovered sold at Devizes :— a man, about 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion, small dark moustache, of good address, and gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in dark tweed coat, light tweed trousers, and old tweed hat; his parents reside at 25, Philpot- street, Stepney, London ; he is well known in the neighbourhood of Pimlico, also at Overton, Hants. Information to Mr. Supt. Baldwin, Devizes, or to Mr. Supt. Wiltshire, Marlborough, Wilts. — Bow - street, October 22. Stolen from High Lees Farm, Matlock, on 19th instant: — 1 hand Saw, broken handle, 1 new shift Wrench, 3 steel Piles, 2 Chisels, 2 Pincers, 3 Gimlets, 1 Hammer, a black billy Hat, aid a blue and white cotton Shirt. Supposed by a tramping joiner, employed to do some odd jobs, said he came from Worcestershire, from 40 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, whiskers slightly sandy down sides of face, medium build, stoops forward when walking ; dressed in a blue serge jacket, brown vest, light worsted cord trousers, and soft black billy hat. Had with him a joiner's tool basket. Information to Mr. Supt. Sharpe, Police Station, Wirksworth, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, Oct. 22. Absconded charged with embezzlement: — JOHN HENRY SPRY, a clerk, 37 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high fair complexion, light hair, heard and moustache, grey eyes dresa, black frock coat, closely buttored, high black hat, gentlemanly appearance ; mother resides at Burraton House, Saltrssh, Cornwall, and formerly in the employ of Messrs. Popham and Radford, Plymouth. Warrant issued. Infor- mation to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W, — Metropolitan Police, October 22. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Clifton, on 4th inst. a blue pilot cloth Coat, black velvet collar, two pockets out side and one inside left breast, ticket ditto on right side, and blue plaid woollen lining. By a man, 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion and hair, black mous- tache ; dressed in brown cloth coat, black vest, cord trousers, cloth cap, with two white buttons on each side ard one in centre. He is living in Akers- street, Prescot, and is well known to the Police there. Information to the County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester, Lancashire.— Bow- street, October 22. Absconded on 12th instant, charged with embezzlement — NATHAN STEPHEN WATMORE, 2G years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, pale complexion, red hair and moustache, brown eyes, first joint of little finger on one hand has been amputated ; dressed in black frock coat, dark trousers, high hat, and black band. Last seen between Luton and Dunstable, supposed destitute and tramping the country in the direction of Liverpool. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W .— Metropolitan Police, Oct. 22. Absconded from Emborough, Somerset, charged with stealing on 9th instant 4 Ducks ( recovered) :— GEORGE FORD, labourer, from 22 to 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, sandy hair, very small ( if any) light whiskers; supposed dressed in black soft bowler hat, black jacket, dark vest, speckled cloth trousers, and heavy lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Emson, Somerset Constabu lary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 20. Charge I with larceny, as a bailee of Monies, a man for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued : ABE LEVI, alias GOODY LEVI, of 1, Bassein Park- road, Shepherds Bush, London, about 45 years of age, b feet 9 inches high - well built, and inclined to be stout, of Jewish appesrance dark curly hair, black moustache, tinged with grey, no whiskers ; is well known at race meetings, and about London Information to Mr. Supt. Benson, Newmarket.— Bow- street, October 20. Description of ROBERT WILLIAMS, chargsd at RhyJ with larceny :— about 17 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high dark complexion, daik eyes and hair ; is a native of Denbigh, and was apprenticed to a plumber and painter.
