Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed oftenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. * t* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and Bworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insortion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor Efttist be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not bo made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and « £ Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Ofli. se Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, aa above, for insertion in the TOLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the propeity, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to he good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Committed for trial at the next Assizes for Bridgend, charged with Manslaughter :— THOMAS WILBERFORCE, otherwise ' Professor Wilberforce,' a quack doctor, 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, brown - eyes; states that he is a native of Leicester, and that he is travelling through the country, staying a few months at different towns. He is supposed to have been convicted at Birmingham ir. the name of THOMAS FALLAR, and sen- tenced to 14 years penal servitude, aud while a convict to have gone out in a ship called ' Warwick' from Portland or Chatham to Gibraltar iu 1868, and returned to Chatham in 1874, and engaged at the hospital there, supposed discharged in October or November, 1879. Information to Mr. Supt. Thomas, Constabulary Office, Bridgend, Glamorganshire.— — Bow- street, October 13. ROBBERY LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Chester, on 1st instant:— a gold centre seconds open face Watch, No. 81,751, maker J. N. Ogden, Manchester; and gold graduated curl) Chain, with oval shaped gold Locket attached. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall Cheater,— Bow- st., October 8. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen during the night of 11th instant, from a dwelling house, by breaking the window on the ground floor a large gilt Clock, a man on horseback supports the clock. Informa- tion to Head Constable Ross, Borough Police Station, Newport, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, October 15. During the night of 12th instant, a shoemakers shop at Fenny Stratford, was broken and entered and stolen there- from :— a pair of boy's lace- up Boots, new, heavy nails iu soles, and tipped and heeled, No. 2 size ; and a pair of woman's leather Slippers, lined with light material inside, the property of Seba Young, of Fenny Stratford, shoemaker. Informa- tion to Mr. tiujot. Hedley, Police Station, Fenny Stratford, Bucks.-- Bo"- street, October 15. Stolen by means of burglary, at Loose, Kent, on 13th instant.— an old black cloth Jacket, dark lining, pockets at hips, and one inside breast packet; a double breasted daik- - triped tweed Vest ; 8s. in Bronze, and some Provisions. The following is a correct list of Articles stolen from the dwelling- house at Ayleston Park, near Leicester, during the night of 1st instant, advertised in Police Gazette of 8th ' . nt:— A small silver Tea Service, consisting of Teapot, - with ivory handles, slightly discoloured, Cream- jug, Sugar- basin, with two silver handles, and a pair of sugar Tongs, all marked ' L. N.' A chased Chatelain, in shape of Bhield, with three gold chains attached. A gold band Bracelet, set with five stones, consisting of red one g in centre, and four aquamarine stones round it. A gold French cable Neck- chain. A pair of uru- shaped gold Ear- rings. A pair of blue turquoise gold Ear- rings and Pendants, with likeness of a young lady in case at back, and gold fringe at bottom of each. A pair of gold French Far- rings, with blue and pink stones or enamel. Two open- work gold shirt Studs, with pearl in centre. A gilt Stand, for two scent bottles. A pair of Field Glasses, iu black frames. A well coloured meerschaum Pipe, with straight stem, massive amber mouthpiece, silver ferrule, and in dark coloured case. A lady's light grey corded silk Dress, with long skirt, two or three flounces round the bottom, the body, and polonaise all in one piece, satin trimming down down the front, 26 or 27 iuches round the waist-, and had a grey fringe round the polonaise. Two short sealskin Jackets, much worn, fitting tight round the waist, and one of them trimmed with black fur. Information to Mr. Supt, Moore, Belgrave, Leicester. — Bow- street, October 15. Stolen by means of burglary on 9th instant, at Eaton, Lydbury North, Salop :— a pair of strong lace- up watertight Boots, man's size, toe- capped, and nearly new. Information to Mr. Supt. Caswell, Church Strettou, or tf> Sergeant Williams, Bishop's Castle, Salop.— Bow- street, October 13. Between 2 and 3 p. m. on 7th inst., a cottage at Bamsden, Oxford, was broken and entered and stolen therein :— a dark pilot Jacket, button on one side cut off', three left on the opposite side ; a dark speckled cloth Yest; a pair of light grey cloth Trousers, yellow lining on waistband ; a black and white check woollen Shirt ; a half- square Handkerchief, fadid. By a man, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 ins. high, fresh complexion, freckled, and small sandy whiskers ; dressed iu brown slop, brown cord trousers, tied round leg* with string, hair c-< p, sandy colour, with leather peak. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Whadcoat, Whitney, Oxon.— Bow- street, October 11. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from a dwelling- house in Stockport, between 8.30 p. m. and 9 p. m. on 7th instant :— a lady's large plain gold Locket, has the initials ' E. A. B.' outside, place for 2 photographs inside, but nothing in blue paper under glass, had attached a gold Neck- chain, snake pattern, about i- inch thick; a portion of a fine gold Guard, about 1 foot in length ; a pair of lady's black kid Gloves, stitched with lavender thread ; ^- dozeri lady's white linen Pocket- handkerchiefs; a red leather Purse, round steel top, washlt- ather Jiuing, 2 compartments inside, part worn, contain- ing £ 1 10s. in Gold, and 303. in silver ; also £ 20 in Gold. £ 5 reward will be given on the apprehension of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the property, or iu proportion to the amount recovered. Stolen by means of burglary, on the night of 5lh instant, from Wichnor Hall, near Burton- os- Treut : an old filagree Casket, oblong shaped, 6 inches by 4, one bit missing ; an old Book of devotiorrs, iu solid silver cover, supposed to have belonged to Queen Katherine Pair, aud of great value as a curiosity, iu the fly leaf at the end is written a latin inscription, commencing ' Privatum quo dam maunde, & c.'; a pair of old silver dwarf Candlesticks ; a pair of curious old Candlesticks, silver ledge round them ; a small round filagree Box, set with agates at top, one stone missing ; an old enamel Watch, with chatelains and pendants, the enamel slightly chtpped, maker's name with ' Lichfield,' printed on paper, is pasted insi'e. HOBSE AID CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field at Otterden, Kent, on the night of 8th instant:— a Kent ewe Teg, marked XB. in red paint on off nide. Stolen from a field at Lullingstone, on 30th ultimo :— a Heiftr or Steer, about 18 months old, ' W. M.' branded on horns, clipped iu left ear, brown or brown and white colour. Information to Mr. Supt. Fiead, Kent Constabulary, Dartford. — Bow- street, October 15. .. Stolen on 13th instant, from a field at Monkland :— 10 fat ewe Sheep, nearly all black- faced, aud marked with the letters ' W. Stolen from a field at Carlton, Bedfordshire, on the night of 1st instant:— a brown Mare, nearly thorough bred, 4years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, white star on forehead, both hind fetlocks fired, the off fetlock partly white, and has a ring bone on it; the property of Mr. W. B. Battams, of Harrold, farmer, Information to Mr. Supt. Carruthers, Sharnbrook, Bedford- shire.— Bow- street, October 15. Remanded till 16th instant, charged with stealing a Horse and Cart:— JOHN HURLEY, a tramping Irishman, states he has been a soldier in 102nd Regiment 12 years, has been discharged about 4 years, had been working at Sheerness, at bricklaying, where he fell off a building, and broke hia shoulder, has been in Minster Hospital, was discharged about a month since ; he is 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache ; dresse i in a dark cloth coat, gvey vest, white canvas trousers, and soft black felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Dennis, Guestling, Hastings, or to Sergeant Beck, Silverhill, St. Leonards, Hastings.— Bmo- ttrcet, October 15. The Horse, Cart, Harness, & c., advertised in Police Gazette of 11th instant, have been recovered, and 3 men are remanded at Tunbridge Wells, until 11am., 18th instant, on a charge of stealing the tame :— one gave the name of GEORGE SIMPSON, refuses his address, 31 years of age, 5 feet 7 ins. high, dark hair, tuft on chin ; says he is a dealer, and attends sales. Another, PATRICK DOWNEY, or DAVIS, o£ 4, Russell- court, Catherine- street, Strand, 30 yeais of age, 5 feet 71 inches high, broad face ; a pugilist and lithographic printer. The other CHARLES SEATON, of Handel House, Peckham Rye, 18 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, thin, fair complexion, bins eyes, light brown hair ; a jeweller. Information to tho Head Constable, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- st cut, October 15. Stolen from a field at Eltliam :— a dark chestnut M& re, aged, 15 hands, capped hocks, small white star on forehead, no shoes, in good condition. Taken in the direction of Chislehurst. Information to The Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, October 13. Stolen from a Public House, in Leicester, ou 6th instant, a Horse and Trap :— by a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 ' or 8 iupbes high, light complexion ; and wearing a light mackintosh. Tbe horse is a light grey, 16 hands high, thick fetlock on near high leg, both hind legs have been fired, chafed under saddle; oak coloured sparkenhoe Trap, with square wings, and square body, and brass caps, with ' Hill Melton' on them ; set of brass mounted Harness, leather inside for pads; Whip with brass ferules. Information to Chief Constable Farndale, Leicester.— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen from a field at Eascott, Swindon, on the night of 5th instant:— 3 black Kerry fat Heifers, 2 scissors marks on the off hip. Information to Mr. Supt. North, Swindon.— Bote- street, Ociobcr 13. Stolen between 12 midnight 5th, and 7 a. m. 6th instant, from a stable in Little York- street, Bethnal Green :— a bay Mare, 15 hauds 2 inches high, 4 years old, white star on fore- head, letter ' H.' on withers, three white fetlocks, in good condition, supposed iu foal, a very fast mare. £ 20 reward will be paid by Mr. James Julier, 19, Church- street, Bethnal Gr een, to any person giving information that m » y lead to the appreheusien of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the mare. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, October 11. Stolen dining the night of 25th ultimo, from afield at West Dulwich ;—- a bright bay Gelding, 15i hands high, 4 years old, small star on forehead, hind foot and fetlock white, lump ou side of near hind leg, long tail, in good condition, Information to the Director of C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, October 8. Description of an Irishman, a drover, engaged at Brough Hill Fair, on 1st instant, to drive three Irish beasts to Crook, near Bishop Auckland, sol4 one on the road, near Bowes, for £ 0, and abscouded with the money, a ma i answering the description took a ticket at Bowes Railway Station, for New- castle- upon- Tyne :— he is 35 to 4<> years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 iuches high, fresb complexion, has large blotches on his face, apparently from drink, slender figure ; dressed in grey greasy clothes and cap, necktie and collar ; at'ends fairs, and maybe found iu low beer houses, or lodging bouses. Information to Mr. Supt. Gregory, North Riding Constabulary, Richmond. Yorks, or to Inspector Robson, Police Station, Greta Bridge, Barnard Castle.— Bow- street, October 8. LA& CIIY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a lodging house, in Bridgnorth, on 12tir instant;— a pair of man's nearly new lace- up Boots, No. 9 size, small nails round tae foreparts, and tips on heels. By a tramp who lodgec iu the house, and left Iris old ones behrnd, and is now wearing the new ones ; he is from 45 to 50 years » of ; ige, about 5 feet C or 7 iuches high, very dirty appearance, with moustache, no whiskers, and very sore eyes ; dressed iu dark grey cloth jacket, cord trousers, soft billy hat, with black 2 POLICE GAZETTE. October 15 feather stuck in one side, stays at common lodging- houses and union tramp wards, was last seen near Wenlock, making to Montgomeryshire. Information at the Borough Police Office, Bridgnorth.— Bow- street, October 15. Description of a labourer, who has gone by the name of GEORGE SMITH, who is charged with stealing a bank Book ; a Ready Reckoner ; a pair of grey worsted Stockings, nearly new ; a Pawn ticket, for a silver watch, pledged in London; and 3d. in Coppers :— 40 years of age, 5 feet inches high, brown hair and whiskers, nose a little on one side ; dressed in pilot jacket, red plush vest, with black spots had sleeves to it, thin drabbit trousers, strong boots, and cap, with the sides turned up, and tied at the top, he works at threshing machines. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. Supt Sowden, County Police Station, Boston.- Bow- street, October 15. Charged on warrant with stealing on 9th instant, from a dwelling house, at Teston, Kent, £ 9 in Gold, and some silver Monies ; a silver Geneva Watch, large size, seconds ; a dark tweed Coat and Vest to mutch ; and a pair of black ribbed cloth Trousers : — CHABLE3 HOOK, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, deep set eyes, stout swarthy looking, blue spot on left arm, scar on right temple, and large ears; was received at the. Red Hill Reformatory School, on 13th March, 1876, from Cold Bath Fields Prison, under sentence of 5 years detention, from Middlesex Sessions, fo. stealing a Coat, after 2 previous convictions ; he gave his address when sent to prison, as Blackstock, Highbury Vale, London, N. ; supposed dressed in pepper- and- salt coloured suit, hard round hat, and new heavy lace- up boots. And HENRY SPARKS, about 18 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, large nose, tall and slim figure, rolling gait, long neck, dimple chin, and long scar on right cheek ; was received at Red Hill Reforma tory School, on 4th August, 1877, from Taunton Gaol, for 5 years detention, for housebreaking, after 2 previous convictions ; he gave his address when sent to prison as Park- street, Yeovil; supposed dressed in cord jacket and trousers, hard round hat, and heavy lace- up boots. Charged with larceny:— EDWARD HURLEY, 17 yrs. of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, small thin face, rather good looking, respectable appearance, dark brown hair, very quiet lad, well behaved ; dressed in hark felt liat, black coat, dark blue trousers ; he is a native of Rochester, supposed gone to the Borough, Lcndon, and will be found working in stables. Wanted on a charge of stealing £ 13 in Gold, from a lodging- house at Penygroes, on 30th ultimo :— PATRICK CHAS CAVANNAGH, alias RUSSELL, alias CAVEN- DISH, 39 years of age, 5 feet inches high, sallow com- plexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scars on forehead and over nose, blue cut left eyebrow, scar on left leg, when last seen had shaved off beard ; dressed in light tweed coat, brown cloth trousers; a groom, born at Gal way. Seived 5 years military training. Has been convicted several times for larceny. Tramped through Wales. Buys and sells old horses. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Prothoro, Carnarvon.— Bow- stra- t, October 15. Stolen on 30th ultimo, from 39th Depot Brigade Barracks, Dorchester:— a monkey Jacket; a pair of black cloth Trousers ; a black hard Hat. Supposed by a man 23 years of age, 5 feet 71 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes; may be wearing stolen articles. Information to Head Constable Coward, Borough Police Station, Guildhall, Dorchester, Dorset.— Bow- Street, October 15. Absconded from Chipping Norton, charged on warrant with embezzlement:— ALFRED WILLIAM, a travelling draper, about 31 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark com plexion, brown eyes, and black hair ; his wife resides at Caproid Cottage, Magdalene- road, Oxford is well known at Bridgewater, where his mother- in- law kept a publichouse • has also a brother living at S . vindon, Wilts, who is a book- hawker. Information to Mr, Supt. Lakin, Chipping Norton Oxon, who holds the warrant | for his apprehension. — Bow- street, October 15 Stolen at Tunbridge Wells on 12th instant :— a plain gold Ring, with ' Mizpah' on it; and a silver Pencil Case, By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, stoutish build, dark complexion, beard shaved off, slight moustache diessed in blue jacket, black trousers, and black round hat. Said he had been living in the City, and was an invalid. He hired apartments on 11th instant, and on 12th tried to borrow money from the landlady to pay for his luggage at the railway Station, he having only a cheque ; not succeeding, he left, saying he would be buck to diuner, but did not return, and aftar his departure it was found that he had stolen the above- mentioned articles. Information to the Head Constable, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, October 15. Stolen between 4th aud 6tli instant, from Weedon Barracks :— three Sovereigns, and 28s. in Silver; a finger Ring, set with three diamonds ; also a silver Geneva Watch which has part of the hour hand broken off, and the wore ' Exhibition, 1861' on the face, No. supposed 479. Supposed by a man who has been in the 6th Regiment of Foot, and • who deserted from the above Barracks on 4th instant :— he is 24 years of age, 5 feet 8i inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes ; dressed iu regimentals, and grey great coat; has been a ship's cook. Information to Mr. Supt. Bavwell, Police Office, Daventry, Northamptonshire.— Bow street, October 13. Stolen during the evening of 9th instaut, from an unfurnished house at Wolverton :— a plasterer's Trowel, with two shanks ; a lath Hammer; a gauging Trowel; and plasterer's Apron. Supposed by a man, about 25 yeaisof age, 6 feet 6 inches high; dressed in a dark blue ribbed serge coat, plaiu cord trousers, and dark felt hat. Stated he was plasterer by trade, and had worked for a Mr. Jennings, builder, at Market Harborough. Information to Mr. Supt, Hedley, Fenny Stratford, or to the Inspector, Stony Stratford Bucks— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen between 11.30 p. m. 7th, and 3 p. m. 9th instant, at. Bolton :— an English silver lever Watch, has ' P. Lambs' scratched 111 inner Case, had attached a hair albert Guard twisted, with gold cro- s Pendant. Information t3 Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton.— Bow- sireet, October 13. Absconded 8th instaut, charged on a warrant with embezzlement :— WALTER CHARLES ASHLEY, late of 31, Rarford- street, Islington, a traveller, 26 years of age 5 ft. 7 inches high, fair complexion, hair, whiskers and moustache ( slight), fair ; dressed in black coat and vest, brown ulster, light trousers, leather boots, cloth tops ; well known in Islington, and supposed to be in that neighbourhood. Infor- mation to the j Inspector, City of London Police, 145, Upper Thames- street, E. C.- Bow- street, Oct. 13. Stolen at Stoke- on- Trent, on 9th instant :— about £ 16 in Money; a lady's gold Watch ; 2 black Brooches; and a gold wedding Ring and Keeper. Information to Mr. Supt. Bowen, Stoke- on- Trent.— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen whilst in transit, on 20th ultimo, between Brick Lane, and Downham :— a small Parcel containing 15 yards of embossed figured Velvet, brown and purple colour. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt, Hedington, Great Eastern Railway, Liverpool Street, E. C.— Bow- st., October 13. Absconded from Ipswich, on 29th ultimo, charged on warrant with stealing 2 silver Geneva Watches, one No. 60650, maker's Scliuler and Boby, Ipswich ; the other coloured face, dull looking, has a silver Locket and Albert attached, the locket has a photo of a little girl inside ; and about lis. in Silver money :— WILLIAM FLOWERS, about 28 years of 5 feet 5} inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, dressed in dark grey faded coat, pockets on hips, vest of the same material, dirty cord trousers, and a black jim crow hat; called at farm houses, seeking employment as farm labourer, and spoke English. Information to Mr. Supt. Ellis, Welsh- pool, or to P. C. Richards, Meifod, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- st., October 15. brown eyes, very small light moustache, about 9 stone weight, has a mole between shoulders,' W.
