A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. * m* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, Bhould be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tire persons forwarding them. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Committed for trial at the next Assizes for Bridgend, charged with Manslaughter :— THOMAS WILBERFORCE, otherwise ' Professor Wilberforce,' a quack doctor, 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes ; states that he is a native of Leicester, and that lie is travelling through the country, staying a few months at different towns. He is supposed to have been convicted at Birmingham in the name of THOMAS FALLAR, and sen- tenced to 14 years penal servitude, and while a convict to have gone out in a ship called ' Warwick' from Portland or Chatham to Gibraltar in 1868, and returned to Chatham in 1874, and engaged at the hospital there, supposed discharged in October or November, 1879. Information to Mr. Supt. Thomas, Constabulary Office, Bridgend, Glamorganshire — — Bow- street, October 13. Absconded from Wells, on 3rd instant, charged on warrant with maliciously wounding Herbert Cox, with intent to disfigure :— WILLIAM MOORE, about 18 or 19 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, very small whiskers side of face, rather sharp and quick spoken ; dressed in light speckled coat and vest, or dark mixture suit, black stiff bowler bat, sometimes wears a long white jacket. He took with him a bundle supposed to contain clothes. He is supposed to be accompanied by a young man named Bennett, a labourer, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, very slight whiskers ( if any), turns in the right leg at the knee joint Information to Deputy Chief Constable Bisgood, Glastonbury, or to Sergeant Vowles, Somerset Constabulary, Wells.— Bow- street, October 6. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary on 9th instant, at Eaton, Lydbury North, Salop :— a pair of strong lace- up watertigl t Boots, man's size, toe- capped, and nearly new. Information to Mr. Supt. Caswell, Church Stretton, or to Sergeaut Williams, Bishop's Castle, Salop.— Bow- street, October 13. Between 2 and 3 p. m. on 7th inst., a cottage at Ramsden, Oxford, was broken and entered and stolen therein :•— a dark pilot Jacket, button on one side cut off, three left on the opposite side ; a dark speckled cloth Vest; a pair of light grey cloth Trousers, yellow lining on waistband ; a black and white check woollen Shirt; a half- square Handkerchief, faded. By a man, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 ins. high, fresh complexion, freckled, and small sandy whiskers ; dressed in brown slop, brown cord trousers, tied round legs with string, hair c; p, sandy colour, with leather peak. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Whadcoat, Whitney, Oxon.— Bow- street, October 11. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from a dwelling- house in Stockport, between 8.30 p. m. and 9 p. m. on 7th instant :— a lady's large plain gold Locket, has the initials ' E. A. B.' outside, place for 2 photographs inside, but nothing in, blue paper under glass, had attached a goid Neck- chain, snake pattern, about i- inch thick ; a portion of a fine gold Guard, about 1 foot in length ; a pair of lady's black kid Gloves, stitched with lavender thread ; |- dozen lady's white linen Pocket- handkerchiefs; a red leather Purse, round steel top, washleather lining, 2 compartments inside, part worn, contain- ing £ 1 103. in Gold, and 30a. in silver ; also £ 20 in Gold. £ 5 reward will be given on the apprehension of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to Chief Constables Staples, Borough Police Office, Stockport.— Bow- street, October 11, Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Ayleston Park, during the night of 1st instant :— A silver breakfast Service, consisting of Teapot, Cream- jug, Sugar- basin and Tongs, all small size, oval shaped, bead pattern, round edge, white ivory handles, rather discoloured, all marked ' L. N.' on the side. A chased Chatelain, in shape of shield, with three gold chains attached. A meerschaum Pipe, well coloured, with straight stem, silver ferrule, and massive amber mouthpiece, in dark case. A pair of field Glasses, in black frames. A lady's light grey silk Dress, with long skirt, two or three flounces round the bottom, the body and polonaise all in one piece, satin down the front, 26 or 27 inches round the waist, and grey fringe round the polonaise. Information to Mr. Supt. Moore, Belgrave, Leicester. — Bow- street, October 8. Stolen by means of burglary, on the night of 5th instant, from Wichnor Hall, near Burt'on- on- Trent:— an old filagree Casket, oblong shaped, 6 inches by 4, one bit missing ; an old Book of devotions, in solid silver cover, supposed to have belonged to Queen Katherine Parr, and of great value as a curiosity, in the fly leaf at the end is written a latin inscription, commencing ' Privatum quo dam maunde, & c.'; a pair of old silver dwarf Candlesticks; a pair of curious old Candlesticks, silver ledge round them ; a small round filagree Box, set with agates at top, one stone missing ; an old enamel Watch, with chatelains and pendants, the enamel slightly chipped, maker's name with ' Lichfield,' printed on paper, is pasted inside. Information to Mr. Supt. Harston, Burton- on- Trent, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, October 8. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Chester, on 1st instant:— a gold centre seconds open face Watch, No. 81,751, maker J. N. Ogden, Manchester; and gold graduated curb Chain, with oval shaped gold Locket attached. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester.— Bow- st., October 8. Stolen from the person on the niglrt of 28th ultimo :— a gold lever Watch, white dial, gold hands, maker George Cliff Lowe, Manchester, No. 33869, had an inscription on outer case ' Presented to Thomas Kent Goodier, by James Whittaker Evans.' £ 5 reward will be paid by the owner of the watch for its recovery, and conviction of the thief or thieves. In- formation at the Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, October 6. Stolen from the person at Preston, on 3rd instant :— a silver lever Watch, No. 5082, ' Michael Helsby, Wigan,' on Stolen between 6 and 8 p. m. on 3rd instant, at Romford : — 14 Tea Spoons, 6 marked ' G'; a pair of Sugar Tongs ; a Salt Spoon, all silver ; 4 Table Spoons ; 6 Dessert Spoons ; 6 Table Forks ; 0 Dessert Forks ; 2 Salt Spoons; a Butter Knife, all electro- plated; a blue cloth Overcoat with velvet collar and pockets on hips; a black satin Tie with white stripe. gThe robbery supposed to have been committed by a pro- fessional thief or thieves. Information to Mr. Supt. Dobson, Brentwood, or to Inspector Pepper, Romford, Essex.— Bow- strest, October 6. On the night of 2nd, or morning of 3rd instant, the Station at Buntingford, Herts, was broken into and robbed, one of the stolen Parcels contained a dressing Gown, lined with purple ; a table Cloth, corn pattern ; and two tea table Cloths ; another Parcel contained a small china Jug; 54 Postage Stamps were also taken. Supposed by three men, who are also suspected of having committed a burglary at Bishop Stortford :— One about 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion and moustache, no Leard; has the appearance of a bricklayer; dressed in light brown, moleskin or fustian suit, soft black wideawake hat, red neckerchief ; when in a public house sang several Irish songs. Another about 5 feet 8 inches high, large features, no moustache or whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes ( supposed tweed), black felt hat, oval top: sings tenor songs, his favorite being ' The Anchor's Weighed.' The other about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark com- HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Eltham :— a dark chestnut Mare, aged, 15 hands, capped hocks, small white star on forehead, no shoes, in good condition. Taken in the direction of Chislehurst. Information to The Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, October 13. Stolen from a Public House, in Leicester, on 6tli instant, a Horse and Trap :— by a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion; and wearing a light mackintosh. The horse is a light grey, 16 hands high, thick fetlock on near high leg, both hind legs have been fired, chafed under saddle; oak coloured sparkenhoe Trap, with square wings, and square body, and brass caps, with ' Hill Melton * on them ; set of brass mounted Harness, leather inside for pads; Whip with brass ferules. Information to Chief Constable Farndale, Leicester.— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen from a field at Eascott, Swindon, on the night of 5th instant:— 3 black Kerry fat Heifers, 2 scissors marks on the off hip. Information to Mr. Supt. North, Swindon.— Bow- street, October 13. Charged with stealing at Tunbridge Wells, on 5th ins.:— a bay Horse, aged, 16 hands high, has a small wart on inside of near hind hock ; a dog Cart, black body, with under carriage red and black, the sides are imitations of Venetian blinds, lined with blue cloth cushion, of the same material, has) shifting seat for two or four persons ; a set of nearly- new silver plated Harness, with the name ' Harmer' stamped on it in several places; 2 Rugs, one has the name of ' A. Waghorne,' on tape at one corner. Two men who hired the same to go 4 or 5 miles, who have been traced on the road to London ; 1st about 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stoutly built, fair complexion, blue eyes, full face, light whisker- si, and heavy moustache; dressed in black cloth frock coat, and silk hat; 2nd about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in black cutaway coat, and low hard fell hat. They were frequently at the ' Load of hay' public [ house, Praed- street, j Paddington, last year. Infor- mation to the Head Constable, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells. — Bow- street, October 11. Stolen between 12 midnight 5th, and 7 a. m. 6th instant, from a stable in Little York- street, Bethnal Green :— a bay Mare, 15 hands 2 inches high, 4 years old, white star on fore- head, letter ' H.' on withers, three white fetlocks, in good coidition, supposed in foal, a very fast mare. £ 20 reward will be paid by Mr. James Julier, 19, Church- street, Bethnal Green, to any person giving information that may lead to the apprehensien of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the mare. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, October 11. Stolen during the niglit of 25th ultimo, from a field at West Dulwich :— a bright bay Gelding, 15£ hands high, 4 years old, small star on forehead, hind foot and fetlock white, lump on side of near hind leg, long tail, in good condition. Information to the Director of C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, October 8. Description of an Irishman, a drover, engaged at Brough Hill Fair, on 1st instant, to drive three Irish beasts to Crook, near Bishop Auckland, sold one on the road, near Bowes, for £ 0, and absconded with the money, a maa answering the description took a ticket at Bowes Railway Station, for New castle- upon- Tyne :— he is 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, has large blotches on his face, apparently from drink, slender figure ; dressed in grey greasy clothes aud cap, necktie and collar ; attends fairs, and may be found in low beer houses, or lodging houses. Information to Mr. Supt. Gregory, North Riding Constabulary, Richmond, Yorks, or to Inspector Robson, Police Station, Greta Bridge, Barnard Castle.— Bow- street, October 8. Stolen from a meadow at Westhampnett, on the night oi 28th or morning of 29th ultimo :— an iron- grey gelding Cob, well bred, in good condition, about 15 hands high, 5 years old, cow hocked, square tail, few white hairs on off side caused by pad, two small girth marks on off side, and small max- ks on hind legs caused by being kicked. Information to Mr. Supt. Lucas, County Police Station, Chichester, Sussex. — Bow- street, October 6. - . Description of JOHN SHERWOOD SIGGERLEY, a potmaker, who absconded from North Walsham, on 2nd iust, charged with stealing a Pony, Cart, and Harness, recovered : — he is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark hair, very dark complexion, wide mouth, large teeth, two small spots resembling mole spots on one cheek ( supposed right) ; dressed in brown cord trousers, old black cloth coat, and black chummy hat, has a brown cloth overcoat which he generally carries on his shoulders with the sleeves tied round his necK. Supposed to be a native of Farnborough, and to have a wife now living there, has a soldierly appearance, and often talks about the 77th Regiment, will probably seek employment in a brick or tile yard or pottery. Information to Mr. Supt. Bouttell, North Walsham, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Octobcr C. 10 POLICE GAZETTE. October 15 LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen between 4th. and 6th instant, from Weedon Barracks :— three Sovereigns, and 28s. in Silver ; a finger Bing, set with three diamonds ; also a silver Geneva Watch, which has part of the hour hand broken off, and the word ' Exhibition, 1861' on the face, No. supposed 479. Supposed by a man who has been in the 6th Regiment of Foot, and who deserted from the above Barracks on 4th instant:— he is 24 years of age, 5 feet 8i inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes ; dressed in regimentals, and grey great coat; has been a ship's cook. Information to Mr. Supt. Barwell, Police Office, Daventry, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen during the evening of 9th instant, from an unfurnished house at Wolverton :— a plasterer's Trowel, with two shanks; a lath Hammer; a gauging Trowel .; and a plasterer's Apron. Supposed by a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high; dressed in a dark blue ribbed serge coat, plain cord trousers, and dark felt hat. Stated he was a plasterer by trade, and had worked for a Mr. Jennings, builder, at Market Barborough. Information to Mr. Supt. Hedley, Fenny Stratford, or to the Inspector, Stony Stratford, Bucks— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen between 11.30 p. m. 7th, and 3 p. m. 9th instant, at Bolton an English silver lever Watch, has ' P. Lambs' scratched on inner case, had attached a hair albert Guard, twisted, with gold cross Pendant. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton.— Bow- street, October 13. Absconded 8th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:— WALTER CHARLES ASHLEY, late of 3l> Barford- street, Islington, a traveller, 26 years of age 5 ft. ? inches high, fair complexion, hair, whiskers and moustache ( slight), fair; dressed in black coat and vest, brown ulster, light trousers, leather boots, cloth tops ; well known iii Islington, and supposed to be in that neighbourhood. Infor- mation to the Inspector, City of London Police, 145, Upper Thames- street, E. C-.— Bow- street, Oct. 13. Watch, and a meerschaum Pipe ( recovered):— he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair, dark whis- kers and moustache, chin shaved, scar on one side of chin, is of smart active appearance, a hair dresser ; dressed in a light suit of clothes, and felt hat; took train from Oswestry to Chester same night, his mother resides in Liverpool. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt, Ellis, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., October 8. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Burton- on- Trent, on 5th instant :— a black Polonaise, figured material, black buttons, in the pockets were a russet- coloured Purse ( which contained an old gold Ring, a pawnticket, and about 8s ), some Gloves, and a Pocket- handkerchief. A tramping woman with spec- tacles and a baby in her arms called at the house a short time previous to the robbery and is believed to be tlie thief. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Harston, Burton- on- Trent, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, October 8. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement :— HUGH HOWELLS, a travelling book hawker, Aberystwith, Car- diganshire, about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, proportionate build, pale complexion, dark hair aud mous- tache, chin shaved. Has resided for some time at Gladston- square, Penygroes, Carnarvonshire. Is accompanied by his wife, and two girls— Catherine Jane, about 9 years of age, Elizabeth Ann, about 6 years of age. Usually travel in Wales. Information at the Chief Constable's Office, New- town, or to P. C. Roberts, Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire.— Sow- street, October 6. Charged on warrant with stealing a quantity of Cloth in South Shields :— JAMES WRIGHT, 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, bushy brown whiskers mixed with grey around face, round full face, stout make, long nose ; dressed when last seen in a blue coat, light trousers mixed with brown, and a white hat, sometimes wears a hard felt. He is a draper, and a native of Scotland. Information to Captain Adams, Central Police Office, South Shields, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 6. Stolen at Stoke- on- Trent, on 9 th instant ••:— about £ 16 m Money; a lady's gold Watch ; 2 black Breochcs ; and a gold wedding Ring and Keeper. Information to Mr. Supt. Bowen, Stoke- on- Trent.— Bow- street, October 13. St ilen whilst in transit, on 20th ultimo, between Brick Lai e, and Downham :— a small Parcel containing 15 yards of embossed figured Velvet, brown and purple colour. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Hedington, Great Eastern Railway, Liverpool Street, E. C.— Bow- st., October 13. Absconded from Ipswich, on 29th ultimo, charged on a warrant, with stealing 2 silver Geneva Watches, one No. C0650, maker's Schuler and Boby, Ipswich ; the other coloured facs, dull looking, has a silver Locket and Albert attached, the locket has a photo of a little girl inside ; and about lis. in Silver money WILLIAM FLOWERS, about 28 years of ags, 5 feet 5i inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, very small light moustache, about 9 stone weight, has a mole between. shoulders,' W. P.' and a figure of a Scotch girl dancing under it, on left arm ; dressed in white duck jacket and trousers, black monkey jacket over, greasy, ha, ving worked in an oil mill, round hard black felt hat, light made lace shoes, brass eyelets, with three hooks at top ; had with him a black ribbed cloth coat, dark vest aud trousers, light ipots in them, a native of Ipswich, and has served in the 2nd Batt. 16th Regt. of Foot, and now belongs to the 1st class Army Reserve, will probably endeavour to obtain his pension from Staff Officers of Pension, having at the present time one quarters pay due to him, which he neglected to draw on 8th instant. Information to Chief Constable Russell, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- sireet, October 13. Charged with stealing 9s. on 1st instant :— EDWIN BISHOP, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, aud small light moustache; dressed in a drab slop, white moleskin vest, old dark cloth trousers, and helmet cap ; supposed a native of Barnsley, Yorkshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Galliers, Bridgenorth, or to Sergeant Gough, Police Station, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop, who holds the warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, October 11. Absconded, charged with embezzlement:— FRANK M. POWELL, late of No. 7, Stratheden- villas, East Dulwich, 19 years of age, 6 feet high,. strong, well built, sunburnt com- plexion > no whiskers, beard, or moustache, white specks on face, gentlemanly appearance; dresses ' generally in short walking coat, stand up collar, aud large white sailor's knot tie. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Stotland Yard, S. W.— Metrovolitan Police, October 11. Absconded on 1st instant, charged on a ' warrant with stealing Skates ( recovered) :— JOHN ANDERSON, 16 years of age, 5 feet high, brown hair, dark eyes, fresh complexion, oval face, proportionate build; dressed in light brown jacket, with pockets on hips, dark vest, cord or moleskin trousers, clogs, and cap with peak. Will probably seek employment at coal pits or brick works. Was discharged from H. M. Prison, Shrewsbury, on 21st ult. Information to Mr. Supt. Galliers, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Davies, Police Station, Much Wenlock, who holds the warrant for his arrest.— Bow- strcet, October 11. Wanted for stealing a Petticoat ( recovered) ; and a pair of Wellington Boots, about half worn, right boot sewn just above heel, at Crondall, on 7th instant— a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, no whiskers or moustache, short beard, medium build ; ' dressed in light tweed coat, mended with dark cloth on both elbows, cord trousers, aud hard black felt hat. Is stated to have served in the Field Artillery. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot. — Bow- street, October 11. Stolen at Hilton, between 4th and 8th instant:— a light grey striped union Shirt, mended in several places and partly worn ; and a pair of blue wool Stockings, nearly new, both men's size and dirty.
