Whenever it is dosired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that « n" information should be made and sworn to beforo a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with tho advertisement, forwarded to tho Editor for insertion. Stolen from the person, on 15th inst., in Sunderland :— a silver Geneva lever keyless Watch, has been gilded over, but gilt ia much worn off, white dial, has ' G. Stolen from the person at Preston, on 20th instant :— a gold English lever Watch, double sunk, hard enamelled dial, engine- turned cases, full plate movement, jewelled in two pair extra ; attached a gold Albert Guard, 18 carat, with double Guinea attached, tho guard Guinea well worn, No. supposed to be 14214. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." INFORMATIONS ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING Supposed to have set fire to a quautity of Hay, at Talwrnbach, Of 20th instant :— a tramp from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, rather dark complexion, clean shaven, cheek bones prominent, sunken cheeks, low narrow chiu. ahd proportionate build ; diessed in dark blue jacket, ragged at elbows, pockets on each side with flaps, single breasted brown cloth waistcoat with two pockets each side, dirty fustian trousers, lace- up boots, heels worn out, a plaid woollen shirt, black and white, a red muffler, brown cap with peak and button ou the top ; carrying brown in a piece of window curtaiu aud tied with cord, con- tains g a brown woollen shirt, and one stripped calico shirt, a pair of light grey woollen stockings, a pair of yellow cotton stockings, a pair of elastic side boots, and a plaid woollen scarf. Information to Police Constable Roberts, Dyffrin, Merionethshire.— Bow street, September 29. name of GEORGE HANNON, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 ins. high, blue eyes, light brown hair, fair complexion, mole on shoulder and stomach ; dressed in brown suit ( horsedealer cut). Says he. resides with his step father, Christopher Dix, of 3, Copley- street Stepney- green, London. Photograph can be seen ou application. Stolen, 17th instant, from St. Paul's Close, Clapham :— blue roan Mare, 14 hands, aged, has been fired at back c hind legs, goes a little lame at starting ; a skeleton Gig painted brown, picked out red, ' Rogers, maker,' on caps oi wheels; also some old silver- plated Harness. By a roan, 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, complexion and hair fair ; dressed in light suit, black or brown hard felt hat; who hired them for a few hours, but never returned. Absconded, 23rd instant, charged on a warrant, with forgery :— THEOPHILUS WILLIAM STARKEY, solicitor, 43 years of age, 5 feet 7 iuches high, broad shoulders, stout, hair aud whiskers dark brown ( turning grey), slightly bald on top of head, fat hands, bites his finger nails ; dressed well, and of smart appearance ; is fond of rowing ; has been in business at Palmerston Buildings, E. C. ; private address, Boswell House, North End, Croydon. Tbe accused has a considerable sum of money in his possession, and will probably leave the country, Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, 2f, Old Jewry, Loudon. — Bo''- street. September 29. Absconded, charged on a warrant with forgery :— GEO. FERRIS SOBEY, late of No. 4, Stonefield- street, Islington, London, 38 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build, black hair and large black Dundreary whiskers, turning grey, no moustache, and round head ; dressed in black diagonal cutaway walking coat, black vest, mixed tweec trousers, napless high black hat, aud a dark mixture plaid ulster coat; a solicitor's clerk, and formerly a solicitor at Exeter, where he has friends. The house of Mr. Robert Williams, Brynglass, near Mold, was broken into between 7 p. m. and 12 p. m. on 2oth instant, and £ 30 iu Gold stolen. Supposed by tramps. Committed for trial at the next Quarter Serious at Maidstone, ou two charges of housebreaking at Lenham, Kent:— JOHN RUSHFORTH, 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inc. high, fair complexion, light brown hair, whiskers, and mou> tacbe; dressed iu old black coat dark tweed trousers,' and black billycock hat. States he is : t decorator bv trade, and haw frends living at West Smithfield, City, London. Infor- mation to luspector Baker, Kent Constabulary, Maidstone. Bow- street, September 27. Committed for trial at Assizes, for burglary, at Shotover House, Oxon, on the night of 8th instant:— JOHN HARTLEY, 35 to 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, sallow complexion, supposed served iu army, three moles left cheek, two back of neck, three on left shoulder, two left side, five right, boil maik right breast, anchor tattooed on back of left hand, and tattoo marks on left forearm; dressed in dark morning coat and vest, dark striped tweed trousers, and light check cloth helmet- shaped cap, has several reient scalp wounds, a severe contusion of right elbow, aud remains of black eyes, has been circumcised. £ 5 reward will be paid to whoever shall clearly identify and give information as to the antecedents of this man. Stolen by means of burglary, at Headcorn, Kent, during the night of 24th instant:— a silver Dessert Spoon, marked ' J.'; a do do., marked ' J. G.'; a do. Tea Spoon ; aud a do., Mustard Spoon ; two electro- platul Table Spoons ; four do., Dessert Forks ; a pair do. Sugar Tongs, marked ' G. McM.'; a do. Cruet Stand with 6 bottles; and a mahogany Writing Desk, containing a black ebony Pipe with ivory mouthpiece. Information to Inspector Baker, Kent Constabulary, Maid- stone.— Bow- strect, September 27. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Brinsford, on 23rd instant:— a black cloth Jacket, single- breasted, florentine buttons, pockets ou hips ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, full fall, aud unstretched at the back of left hip; a grey Vest, double- breasted, with collar, all youths' size ; at. d a blue and white bundle Handkerchief. Supposed by a tramp who was seen near the place, aud was carrying a bundle tied in a handkerchief similar to the one stolen, about 40 or 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, medium build ; dressed in a dark cap, grey jacket, moleskin trousers which were ragged at the bottom and very dirty with red soil or clay. Information to Inspector Gilbride, Tettenhall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Sepember 27. Stolen by means of burglary, at Ball's Bank, between 10 and 11 p. m. on 20th inatant :— a Counterpane, green on one side, dark bluo on the other, worn in places; a young Fox, stuffed, with small screws in feet; 3 Books, entitled ' Two ways to bepin life,' ' Ellin May Day,' and ' Joseph Rogers' written inside the cover of these books,' Emma Ellen Brereton, "' on Cop Free Schools,' written inside. Information to Sergeant Evans, Bradley Green, near Congleton, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, September 24. Scotland Yard, S. W.- Investigations, Great - Metropolitan Police, September 29. Stolen from a field near the gas works, Oswestry, on the night of 19th instant:— a dark chestnut horse PoDy, 3 years old, 12 hands high, mane aud tail greyish colour, thick neck, and short legs ; property of Dr. Beresford, Oswestry, who will pay £ 5 reward to any person giving such information as shall lead to its recovery, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen on 3rd instant, from Ashdown Forest, in Mansfield, Sussex :— a deep red and white Heifer, 2 years old, and in milk. Information to Mr. Supt Peerless, Uckfield, Sussex.— Bow- street, September 27. Found, supposed stolen, in Durham, on 10th instant a dark chestnut mare Pony, aged, 14 hands high, white face, white hairs on back under saddle, and broken knees. Infor- mation to the Chief Constable, City Police, Claypath, Durham. — Bow- street, September 24. Wanted at Adpar, on a charge of stealing a Horse, on the night of loth ultimo ( recovered), a man about 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, freah complexion, stout build, brown hair, light ragged whiskers and moustache, looks heavy and sleepy, stiff in walking, and stoops a little, is a Welshman, and spoke broken English ; dressed iu a suit of dark clothes, the coat being short Glamorganshire fashion, haviug four buttons at the back, aud strong navvy boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Lloyd, Adpar, Newcastle- Emlyn.— Bow- street, September 24. Stolen from Droitwich, on 18th instant:— a black cob Horse, 10 years old, 14 hands high, one white hind fetlock, white star on forehead, wall eyes, and in good condition ; supposed gone in direction of Birmingham. Stolen on 19th or 20t. h instant, from a field near How- grave 3 North Ewes, and C twice crossed shearling Sl'eep, marked • T. L.' in ah oval on the left side iu tar. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsley, Northallerton, or to Inspector Hutchinson, N. R. C., Wath, Ripon.— Bow- street, September 24. Stolen from a field at Longford, during the night of the 15th instant :— a brown half- bred Horse, 5 years old, about 15 hands high, fore feet shod with leather, bad a bit of skin knocked off the off hind leg inside the hock. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Chipp, Police Office, Gloucester.— Bow- street, September 24. robbery and larceny from the person, Stolen from tbe person, on 27th ultimo :— a gold lever Watch, maker White, Coventry, No. 10762, had attached a gold albert Guard, link pattern, with seal appended, which has a red stone on one side, and a brown one on the other, HORSE AND cattle stealing. Stolen from a field at Byrn Tirion, near Caergarle, between 4 p. m. 26th and 11 am. on 27th instanta brown Horse, 15 hauds high, white face and white hind feet, about 10 or 12 years old. Information to Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire— Bow- street, September 29. Committed for trial to next Quarter Sessions, on 22nd proximo, charged with stealing a Mare at Wanstead, Essex, during the night of 20th instant ( being found in his possession next day at Longstanton, All Saints) a man, giving the LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from the ' Fleming's Arms' Inn, Swathing, between 8 and 10 p. m. on 24th instant:— a gold masonic Ring, with the sigu Square aud Compass ; 1 oval chased gold sleeve Link ; about £ 38 in Gold, aud £ 1 iu Silver. Supposed by a man who lodged at the Inn ou the night of 22nd, and who was also seen loitering near the Inn ou 24th instant, supposed fiom his photograph to be THOMAS CLIFFORD, alias DURRANT, advertised iu the Police Gazette of 15th ins* ant iu connection with the robbery at Iford, Hants; he was dressed in dark coat and vest, dark grey trousers, daik thin overcoat, aud was carrying an umbrella. Information to Mr. Supt. Silleuce, Hants Constabulary, Bitterne.— Bow street, September 29. WILLIAM CARTWRIGHT, a native of Cockshutt Salop, charged with larceny, and advertised in Police Gazette of 18th instant, has been apprehended.— Bow- street, Sept. 29. Description o£ JOHN CHARLES ROUNSFULL, charged with stealing a gold Watch, found pawned, and for whose apprehension a warrant is issued :— he is 31 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexiou, hair, whiskers aud moustache, stoops slightly, and is a little lame in left leg, usually carries a sin ill dark walking stick ; dressed in black ribbed single breasted cutaway coat, dark tweed trousers, aud hard hat., shabby ; has been a steward in the Royal Navy, is in the habit of obtaining money, food and lodging, at public- houses, under the pretence that he is a steward of a gunboat or training ship. Information to Head Constable Lynn, Devonport,— Bow- street, September 29. £ 10 reward will be paid for information that will load t- i the arrest of WILLIAM SMITH, late Inspector, County 2 Police, Louth, Lincolnshire, charged with forgery and fraud, • who absconded on 23rd instant, and was last seen at Man- chester on that afternoon :— 47 years of age, 5 feet 7i inches high, stout, bald, clean shaved except moustache ; dressed in blue serge, hard billycock hat, aud carried a rug. Informa- tion to Chief Constable Bicknell, County Police Office, Lincoln.— Bow- street, September 29. Further information respecting EDWARD VIGT, advertised in Police Gazette of 18th August last, charged with stealing a Watch at St. Alban's :— his right name is EDWARD VOGHT, and has a brother who keeps a jeweller's shop in Bridge- street, Northampton, and his father carries on business as a watchmaker at Thrapston, Northampton- shire. Information to Mr. Supt. Pike, St. Alban's, Herts. — Bow- st., September 29. Stolen at Ocle Pitchard, on 21st instant:— a grey woollen Shirt, small man's size, darned on tbe collar, and a red stripe on wristbands. Supposed by an Irishman, 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, long features, very red hair asd mous- tache ; dressed in a dark coat, cap, new plaid scarf, and grey trousers; may be found in hop- yards or at farm- houses; supposed a native of Ebbw Yale, or Abergavenny, Mon- mouthshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Ovens, Bromyard, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, September 27. Charged with embezzling £ 22 13s. ljd., the Monies of the Brancepeth No. 2, Lodge of the Durham Miner's Associa- tion :— THOMAS GAFFNEY, 28 years « f age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair, no whiskers, slight thin moustache, lighter than his hair, slender figure, small features, roman nose, sharp at end, a miner; dressed in blue rep coat, dark cloth trousers and vest, elastic- side boots, hard low- crowned felt hat; is of smart respectable appearance, and of good address. Information to Mr. Supt. Dunn, County Constabulary Office, Durham.— Bow- street, September 27. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement : — JOHN PIPPEN, Of Somersetshire, a shoemaker, 36 years of age, 6 feet 10 inches high, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, slight make, and walks rather stooping; dressed in dark coat turning brown, cord trousers, and hard felt hat with cloth mourning band ; carries a large carpet bag containing tools ; Has been a soldier, and is a member of tne Hearts of Oak Society. Information to Mr. Supt. Silvester, Police Station, Worthing, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen on 22nd instant, at Wilsford :— three Trowels, one about 12 inches long, nearly new, but a little rusty, another about 10$ inches long, rather round at the point, is a right handed trowel, but has been worked by a left handed man, and the other 8 or 9 inches long, with a very thin handle, ' W. H. S. Hunt & Sons,' makers ; also stolen at the same time, a Line, newly new, and spliced in the middle; aud two Pins, with three nicks filed on the top, forming the broad arrow. Supposed by two men on tramp :— one about 40 yrs. of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, large nose, dark complexion, and no whiskers; dressed in a large tlat cap, with peak, dark coat, out at elbows, cord trousers, broken at knees ; the other about 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 to 6 inches high, light hair and moustache; dressed in black hard billy hat, dark coat, and cord trousers. Information to Mr. Superintendent Steveuitt, Sleaford, Lincolnshire.— Bow- Street, September 27. Absconded on 20tb instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement:— JOHN OGILYIE STOREY, 30, Oriental- street, East India Dock road, a clerk, 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, small dark moustache and whiskers, aquiline none, slim build ; dress, long dark frock coat, high hat; well known in the neighbourhood ofCrisp- St., Poplar, and Blackwall Point. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London, Police Office, 26, Old Jury, E. C.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen on 24th instant, at AlderBhot, an aluminium gold double- cased Watcu, supposed No. 3198, white dial, has a crack on dial from figure 7 to 9. By a man about 23 yrs. of age, about 5 ft. 4 inches high, straight black hair, dark complexion, full features, thick lips, one side of face blotched ( supposed left), apparently from erysipelas ; dressed in dark coat and trousers, old claret- coloured necktie, high square- crowned felt liat, carries an umbrella, and has an old navy chart in his possession, and states he has been a sailor. Is supposed to belong to Witley Hill, Reading. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- st., September 27. Absconded on 20th instant, from Eastbourne, Sussex, charged with stealing a dark pepper- and- salt coloured cutaway Coat, with black bone buttons, one pocket inside left breast, and pockets at each aide outside with flaps, had two Pocket- handkerchiefs in pockets, one white, and the other white with yellow bordera man, about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, slightly pitted with small pox, brown hair, slight moustache, no whiskers or beard, proportionate figure, a bricklayer ; dressed in drab bedford cord trousers, white soft billycock hat, white neckerchief, and new lace- up boots ; he is supposed to be accompanied by a man, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build ; dressed in black soft billycock hat, black coa , cord trousers, and white neckerchief. Information to Mr. Supt. Newnham, East Sussex Constabulary, Eastbourne.— Bow- street, September 27. Stolen on 22nd instant, from 14, St. Margaret's- terrace, St. Leonards- on- Sea:— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, maker— Baume, No. 129390; a lady's gold English lever Watch; 2 plated short Chains ; an oval gold Brooch, glass at back ; and a pair square gold Ear- rings, with diamond in centre. Sup- posed by a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair, a few light whiskers and moustache ; dressed in loose summer coat, grey trousers, and hard round felt hat, and carried a small black bag. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Glenister, Hastings.— Bow- street, September 24. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Wanted on warrant, charged with riot and unlawfully wounding P. C. George Wells, at Horsmonden, Kent, on the night of 18th instant:— RICHARD EASTWOOD, about 25 years of ?. ge, about 6 feet high, rather light hair, no whiskers, small moustache, red face, bony and upright; dressed in dark trousers, black slouch pikey hat, supposed long drab jacket; is a running man. BENJAMIN EASTWOOD, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, stout build, rolling walk, clean shaved ; dressed in long drab jacket, with flap tails, cord trousers, heavy lace boots, black soft slouch hat. Has I> POLICE GAZETTE. four- wheel horse van with name of ' John Willett, Rye, Sussex,' which has been recently painted over with black. GEORGE RIPLEY, 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, few dark whiskers, small moustache; generally dressed in bluish coat, cord trousers fitting tight to legs, coloured neckerchief, and black soft slouch hat; is a hawker of pegs, mate, & c. WILLIAM COATS, 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, long light hair; dressed in cord front jacket, with fustian back and sleeves, cord trousers fitting rather tight to legs, large red necker- chief, black hard felt hat, heavy lace- up boots. Travels with a four- wheel blue liouse- van, with name ' William Cots, Croydon, Surrey,' painted on in an illiterate way. WILLIAM COLLINS, about 5 feet 9 inches high, stout btfild, thick set, hangs his head down, rather dark com- plexion, and whiskers round his face, shaves chin and upper lip; dressed in black cloth jacket and. vest, cord trousers, round soft black hat; ragged and dirty appearance. Travels with a four wheel house van painted red, with rack and pegs at back and sides. PRISCILLA MILLER or MALION, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion and hair with large comb at back ; dressed in light cotton frock, red plaid shawl. Hawks scrubbing brushes, & c. These people all belong to the gipsy tribe, and are likely to have cuts or bruises about them. Information to Mr. Supt. Waghorn, Kent Constabulary, Cranbrook, who holds the warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street. September 27.
