The substance of all Information* received in ease* of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, tepvt& Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, teitk the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not sn custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, a* accurate at possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horse* for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. CONTAINING} Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that • an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, at I Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tl e reward. ( 2) The conditions on whic- h it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They ehould contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the propeity, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. Absconded on 11th instant, from 39, King Henry's- road, Hampstead, charged withgarson :— a woman, 42 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, rather dark complexion, hair turning grey, medium forehead, nose rather long and red at tip, and ordinary mouth and chin ; dressed iu dark blue cloth ( light blue silk stripe round), crape bonnet. May be found at Henley- on- Thames. Information to the Director, C I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, Sept 15. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person, at the entrance to the Belle Yue Gardens, Gorton, at 9 30 p. m., 11th instant:— a silver lever Watch, gold balance, No. 208000. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- st., Sept. 17. Description of two navvies, charged - with violently and indecently assaulting a female, in St. Albans, on 11th instant, and stealing a white Pocket handkerchief, marked ' Hanley.' Both are about 34 years of age, one about 5 feet 9 inches high, the other about 5 feet 6 inches high, and stoutly built; both dressed in light long fustian coats. They can be iden- tified. Information to Mr. Superintendent Pike, Police Office, St. Albans, Hertfordshire.—- Bow- street, September 15. Stolen from the person, at the Alton Towers Flower Show :— a gold Watch, enamelled face, seconds hands, No. 26,877, a gold albert Chain attached, on chain was a gold Seal, horse and greyhound cut on the stone of seal; on the dome of watch is engraved, ' Presented to Mr. William Fiander, by the Brewers rnd licensed Victuallers of Netherton, for his honourable conduct during 17 years'— dated, 21st November, 1872. Stolen from the person, at Chesterton, about 1 a. m. on 12th instant :— a silver lever Watch with silver dial and gold figures, large size, No. 50284, and maker's name ' F. Skerratt, Newcastle,' engraved on works. Information to Sergeant Locker, Chesterton, Staffordshire.— Bow- st, September 15. Stolen from the person at Belle Vue Gardens, between 8 pm. and 8' 30 p. m. on 6th instant:— a gold keyless hunting half chronometer Watch, 18 carat, maker's name Bennett, 65, Cheapside, London, ' No. ( in inner case) 2637, and Keg. No. 3326.' Information to County Police Uffice, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, September 13. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means ot housebreaking, at East Farleigh, Kent, on 11th instant :— a silver Geneva hunting Watch, and gold plated Albert attached ; a dark cloth Overcoat; and. a drab Suit with small red stripe. By a man about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion aud mous- tache, small imperial, no whiskers, bald head, Roman nose, shifts his shoulders when walking, and is a painter; dressed in the stolen clothes. Information to Inspector Baker, Kent Constabulary, Wren's Cross, Maidstone.— Bow- street, September 15. Further information respecting the housebreaking at Mr. Hunt's, Iford, Hants, on 11th ultimo. Warrants have been issued for the apprehension of— JOHN GEARY, alias GEORGE REYNARD, a button maker, 52 years of age, 5 feet 9i inches high, pale complexion, irey hair and eyes, oval face, proportionate build, scar left brow and on neck, long thin nose, and mole ou left of back. And THOS. CLIFFORD, alias DURRANT, a carpenter, 42 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, liazei eyes, brown hair, stout build, oval face, mole top of left shoulder and right of back, and red mark on each buttook. Wanted on two charges of burglary :— CHARLES CAIN, deserter from 23rd Regiment of Foot, Wrexham, 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, no whiskers or moustache, dark brown hair, sore grey eyebrows, for which he has been under medical treatment, front teeth decayed, tattooed on both arms, hart on right arm, born at Abergavenny ; supposed dressed in a black cloth surtout coat, or brown summer overcoat, and elastic- side Oxford shoes, recently soled. Stolen by means of burglary, between 11 p. m., 9th, and 6 a. m, 10th instant :—- a quantity of men's and women's black and coloured kid Gloves, trade mark ( Fousse), maker Armand Calvart; [ a quantity of white aud coloured silk Handker- chiefs and Scarfs, aud some black lace. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Goodrich, near Ross, on Cth instant :— a pair of dark plaid mixture cloth Trousers, with one button off waistband on left side; a dark 2 P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. September 20 grey rough cloth Vest, black bone buttons, small turn- down collar, single- breasted, men's size ; a pair of light grey ribbed • woollen Stockings ; and a plain gold wedding King. By two tramps, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slight build, dark curly hair, and moustache ; dressed IU very long dark coat, dark trousers, old hard felt hat with hole in top or side, » nd a pair of old boots with hole cut outside left boot. The other from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed in drab or grey clothes, and black soft billycock hat, no other description can be given. Stolen by means of burglary at Upper Gornal, during tie night of 8th instant :— 3 white calico Sheets, part worn ; 1 brown linen table Cloth; 1 boy's black hard billycock hatj; 1 gold Locket, with blue cross on one side, and a gold cross on the other ; 1 pair of silver sleeve Links ; and a 6 chamber Revolver, very rusty. Information to Chief Supt. Longden, Police Office, Bilaton, or to Mr. Supt. Goodall, Sedgley, Staffordshire.— Bow- slreet, September 13. Absconded on 3rd instant, from Lis?, Hants, charged with breaking into the dwelling- house of Frederick Chappel, and stealing £ 4 10s. WALTER THOMAS SMITH, a painter and grainer, of Guildford, Surrey, a sergeant in 2nd Surrey Militia, was promoted last training at Guildford :— he is about 33 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair com- plexion, light brown hair, heavy sandy moustache and whis- kers, thin face, shaves under chin. Information to Inspector Ransom, Hants Constabulary, Petersfield, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 13. HORSE AND CATTLE STEAL IWG. Stolen [ from a field, at Bickenhill, on 25th ultimo, a Horse ( recovered), by three young men, one of whom, nam° d WILLIAM SMJTH, has been apprehended and committed for trial. The other two wanted are— WALTER JONES, late of Farm- street, Birmingham, scrap dealer, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, black hair, clean shaven ; generally dressed in a snuff- coloured suit of clothes; WILLIAM ARMSTRONG, late of Erasmus- road, Sparkbrook, Birming- ham, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, and slightly built; dressed in black or dark suit of clothes. Jones is a married man, and is supposed to have removed to some other town, and will probably carry on his trade of scrap dealer. Information to Mr. Supt. Yardley, Solihull, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension— Bow- street, Sept. 17. Description of a horse Pony acd a business Cart ( sup- posed stolen), left at Hertford on 3rd instant:— by a man between 40 and 50 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in light clothes, and hard felt hat; he left a dark grey ovorcoat and straw hat ; in the pockets of the coat was a billhead with the name of ' William Allcock, wine and spirit merchant, Commercial and Family Hotel, High- street, Seven- oaks,' printed on it; also a bottle with a printed label,' E. Miller, dispensing chemist, 4, Donegal- place, Lower Clapton, E.' The Cart is painted with a dark colour, picked out with id, bent shafts, no name on caps, and two dark American oth cushions. The Horse is dark brown, 5 years old, about 2 hands high, long mane and tail, and star on forehead, dated Harne: s and rush Collar; a leather Collar and a long Vhip were left in the trap. Information to Mr. Supt. ifice, Leek, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Trap, & c., stolen from Brougham Rectory during the night of 13th July last, and ce Gazette of 27th ultimo, have been . i'ngtonPolice, and WILLIAM SMITH, - oSPORTH, and his brother THOMAS GIBSON ... MLTH, apprehended, since committed for trial at the next Westmoreland Qmrter Sessions for stealing the same. Between the 14th July last and 28th ultimo, the Horse has had four new shoes put on, the hind shoes are stamped on the outside close to the heel ' J. Conde,' who is supposed to be a black- smith either in Lancashire or Cheshire. It is important to have this traced for the purpose of identification. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Stolen from a field at Audenshaw, near Ashton- under- Lyne, between 5.30 p. m. 31st ultimo, and 6 a. m. 1st inst. :— a light bay part bred cart Mare, rising 5 years old, 15J hands high, small white mark in centre of forehead, black mane, tail and legs, clear legs, but large feet, higher on hind than on fore quarters, light coloured muzzle, iu good working condition. £ 5 reward. Also from a field at Audenshaw, between 6 p. m. 1st, and 2 pm. 2ud instant:— a dark bay Mare, about 13 hands high, rising 0 years old, black maue, tail and legs, white star on forehead, white saddle mark ou near side, and in fair condition. JONES, advertised in Police Gazette of 15th instant, charged on warrant with embezzlement at Windsor, has been apprehended. Information to Mr. Supt. Hayes, Borough Police Office, Windsor, Berkshire.— Bow- st., September 17. Absconded on 10th instant, charged on warrant with felony ( property recovered) :— ELIJAH OBERN, native of Bishopsworth, Bedminster, 2L years of age, 6 feet high, fresh complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, little or no whiskers, anchor on left arm, fresh cut on upper lip ; dressed in dark monkey jacket, cord trousers, soft bowler hat, heavy nailed boots Was a short time in the Somerset Constabulary. Has been in the Grenadier Guards and 2nd Somerset Militia ; lately been working as a gardener. Information to Mr. Supt Prewett, Flax- Bourton, near Bristol, or to Sergeant Dervey, Somerset Constabulary, Totterdown, near Bristol.— Bow- stieet, Sep ember 17. Stolen on the morning of 14th instant, from Hopgrass Farm, near Hungerford, a pair of new dark cloth Trousers with small red spots or speckled, and vest of same material. By a tramp about 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 to 6 inches high, clean rouud face, stout build, and dark complexion ; dressed in old dark cloth jacket, patched, cord trousers, black broad brim soft billyc- Jtk hat. Wanted by warrai ' - charged wilV stealing three Seal- skin Jackets, ARTHUR and KATE WILLIAMSON, alias THOMAS :— 1st. about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fair complexion, hair parted in centre, which comes down on his forehead, large eyes, very small light beard, high cheek bones, has a habit of contracting his fore- head, and moving his arms about when speaking ; wore a dark coat, light plaid trousers, and shabby silk hat, is a clothier's assistant, and wherever he goes he introduces the model of a chair ( which he has invented), to prevent sea sickness. 2nd, 30 years of age, short and stout, dark com- plexion and hair, has the appearance of a Jewess ; wore dark green dress, dark Dolman cloak, trimmed with beads and fringe, black bonnet trimmed with beads. Had a boy with them about 2 years old. Absconded from Liverpool, since 25th ultimo. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Williams, Liverpool.— Bow- slreet, September 17. Description of a tramping watch clean r, native of Belgium, charged with stealing on 10th instant, at Worthing, a Watch which he pawned the same day in Brighton :— about 29 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark curly hair, clean shaved, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in long dark ribbed cloth coat, trimmed with black braid, black cloth vest, brown cloth trousers, hard felt black bowler hat, side- spring toe- capped and imitation lace- up boots, black necktie with red spots, large knot; carries a few tools in his pocket, and speaks English imperfectly. Wanted on a warrant, charged with larceny in Anglesey : — RICHARD HUGHES, late of' Cross Keys' Inn, Chester- street, Birkenhead, sailor, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 ins. high, brown complexion, full face, remarkably dark eyes, dark hair, no whiskers, image of a man supposed tattooed on left arm. Has friends living at 9, Boundary- street, and 83, Ellison- street, Liverpool. Information to Inspector Hughes, Police Station, Menai Bridge, Anglesey.— Bow- street, Sept. 15. Description of a man who gives his name as JOHN DAVIS, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair, grey eyes, no hair on face, large mouth, very regular set of teeth, scar back of right hand near thumb, left thumb deformed at first joint ; says he is a tailor, but he appears to be a very imperfect workman. He appears to have travelled about the country a great deal. He says he was employed for about 12 months in the Corporation Stables, Birmingham, and was fined £ 1 for assaulting one of the men there. He is now in custody at Malvern Police Station, charged with entering some stables at Malvern Wells on Monday night, and stealing a large quantity of wearing apparel ( recovered). He had in his possession some articles stolen from some stables on 9th April, 1879, also some articles stolen from the same stables on 2nd ultimo.
