Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to tho Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tbe reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without tho apprehension of the offender. Information to Mr. Superintendent Holland, County Police Office, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow s'.. Sept. 10. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking', at East Farleigh,! Kent, on 11th instant :— a silver Geneva hunting Watch, and gold plated Albert attached ; a dark cloth Overcoat; and a drab Suit with small red stripe. By a man about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or V inches high, dark complexion and mous- tache, small imperial, no whiskers, bald head, Roman nose, shifts his shoulders when walking, and is a painter ; dressed in the stolen clothes. Information to Inspector Baker, Kent Constabulary, Wren's Cross, Maidstone.— Bow- street, \ September 15. Further information respecting the housebreaking at I Mr. Hunt's, Iford, Hants, on 11th ultimo. Warrants have| been issued for the apprehension of— JOHN GEARY, alias GEORGE REYNARD, a button I maker, 52 years of age, 5 feet 91 inches high, pale complexion, grey hair and eyes, oval face, proportionate build, scar left | brow and on neck, long thin nose, and mole on left of back. And THOS. CLIFFORD, alias DURRANT, a carpenter, I 42 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair, stout build, oval face, mole top of left | shoulder and right of back, and red mark on each buttock. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Absconded on llth instant, from 39, King Henry's- road, Hampatead, charged With arson :— a woman, 42 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, rather dark complexion, hair turning grey, medium forehead, nose rather long and red at tip, and ordinary mouth and chin ; dressed in dark blue cloth ( light blue silk stripe round), crape bonnet. May be found at Henley- on- Thames. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, Sept 15. ROBBERY And LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Description of two navvies, charged with violently and indecently assaulting a female, in St. Albans, on llth iustant, and stealing a white Pocket- handkerchief, marked ' Hanley.' Both are about 34 years of age, one about 5 feet 9 inches high, the other about 5 feet 6 inches high, aud stoutly built; both dressed in light long fustian coats. They can be iden- tified. Stolen from the person, at the Alton Towers Flower Show:— a gold Watch, enamelled face, seconds hands, No. 26,877, a gold albert Chain attached,' on chain was a gold Seal, horse and greyhound cut on the stone of seal ; on the dome of watch is engraved, ' Presented to Mr. William Fiander, by the Brewers and licensed Victuallers of Netherton, for his honourable conduct during 17 years'— dated, 21st November, 1872. ' Stolen from the person, at Chesterton, about 1 a. m. on 12th instant:— a silver lever Watch with silver dial and gold figures, large size, No. 50284, and maker's name ' F. Wanted on two charges of burglary:— CHARLES CAIN, deserter from 23rd Regiment of Foot, Wrexham, 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, no whiskers or moustache, dark brown hair, sore grey eyebrows, for which he has been under medical treatment, front teeth decayed, tattooed on both arms, hart on right arm, born at Abergavenny ; supposed dressed in a black cloth surtout coat, 4 POLICE GAZETTE. September 15 or brown summer overcoat, and elastic- side Oxford shoes, recently soled. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Wilde, Wrexham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, Sept. 15. Stolen by means of burglary, between 11 p. m., 9th, and 6 a. m., 10th instant:— a quantity of men's and women's black aud coloured kid Gloves, trade mark ( Fousse), maker Armand Calvart; [ a quantity of white and coloured silk _ Handker- chiefs and Scarfs, and some black lace. Information to Mr. Supt. Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex.— Bow- street, September 13. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Goodrich, near Ross, ou Gth instant:— a pair of dark plaid mixture cloth Trousers, with one button off waistband on left side; a dark grey rough cloth Vest, black bone buttons, small turn- down collar^ single- breasted, men's size ; a pair of light grey ribbed woollen Stockings ; and a plain gold wedding Ring. By two tramps, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slight build, dark curly hair, and moustache ; dressed in very long dark coat, dark trousers, old hard felt hat with hole in top or side, and a pair of old boots with hole cut outside left boot. The other from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed in drab or grey clothes, and black soft billycock hat, no other description can be given. They are supposed to have gone to South Wales. Information to Mr. Supt. Smith, Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- st., September 13. Stolen by means of burglary at Upper Gonial, during the night of 8th instant :— 3 white calico Sheets, part worn ; 1 brown linen table Cloth; 1 boy's black hard billycock hat; 1 gold Locket, with blue cross on one side, and a gold cross ou the other ; 1 pair of silver sleeve Links ; and a 6 chamber Revolver, very rusty. Information to Chief Supt. Longden, Police Office, Bilston, or to Mr. Supt. Goodall, Sedgley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, September 13. Absconded on 3rd instant, from Liss, Hants, charged with freaking into the dwelling- house of Frederick Chappel, and stealing £ 4 10s. WALTER THOMAS SMITH, a painter and grainer, of Guildford, Surrey, a sergeant in 2nd Surrey Militia, was promoted last training at Guildford :— he is about 33 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair com- plexion, light brown hair, heavy sandy moustache and whis- kers, thin face, shaves under chin. Information to Inspector Ransom, Hants Constabulary, Petersfield, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, September 13. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Supposed stolen from a field, at Sheepwalk Farm, Onecot, near Leek, between 9 p. m. 3rd, and 5 a. m. 4th instant :— a small black Welsh Cow, about 6 years old, little white on face, one horn turns up, and the other turns down, in calf, and in good condition, value £ 12. Information to Mr. Supt. Williams, Police Office, Leek, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, September 15. The Horse and Trap, & c., stoleu from Brougham Rectory Farm, Westmoreland, during the night of 13th July last, and advertised in Police Gazette of 27th ultimo, have been recovered by the Warrington Police, and WILLIAM SMITH, alias RUSFORTH, and his brother THOMAS GIBSON SMITH, apprehended, siuco committed for trial at the next Westmoreland Quarter Sessions for stealing the same. Between the 14th July last and 28th ultimo, the Horse has had four new shoes put on, the hind shoes are stamped on the outside close to the heel ' J. Conde,' who is supposed to be a black- smith either in Lancashire or Cheshire. It is important to have this traced for the purpose of identification. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Spencer, Appleby, Westmorland, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, September 15. Stolen from a field at Audenshaw, near Ashton- under- Lyne, between 5.30 p. m. 31st ultimo, and 6 a. m. lst inst. :— a light bay part bred cart Mare, rising 5 years old, 15J hands high, small white mark iu centre of forehead, black mane, tail and legs, clear legs, but large feet, higher on hind than on fore quarters, light coloured muzzle, in good working condition. £ 5 reward. Also from a field at Audenshaw, between 6 p. m. lst, and 2 p. m. 2nd instant:— a dark bay Mare, about 13 hands high, rising 6 years old, black mane, tail and legs, white star on forehead, white saddle mark ou near side, and in fair condition. 10s. reward.' The above rewards will be paid upon recovery and conviction of the thieves, if stolen. Information to Mr. Supt. Myers, County Police Office, Hurst, near Ashton- under- Lyne.— Bow- street September 15. Stolen about 830 p. m. 6tli instant, from outside the London Pavilion Music Hall, Tichbourne- street, St. James's : a black Horse, 15 hands 3 inches high, off hind fetlock white, scars on both hind legs, short tail, well bred and valuable ; hansom Cab, brass mounted, painted dark green, picked out light green, 1 C. T.' in gold letters on side, lined green cloth, green mat, brass lamps, electric light, chronometer case in front, plated fittings inside ; brass- mounted Harness, crest on bridle. By a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair, slight moustache; dressed in dark suit, red scarf, and ' bowler hat. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W. — Metropolitan Police, September 10. Stolen from a field at Cheadle Heath, Cheshire, about 9- 30 p. m. 3rd instant :— a bay Mare, about 10 hands high, 8 years old, tail cut, not short, fore feet from fetlock to hoof turn in a little, white star on forehead. Was traced going across Brinksway Bridge, Stockport, about 10 p. m. tho same night in possession of a boy, about 16 years of age, and who called between 10 and 11 p. m. the same night at the ' Crown Inn' Longsight, near Manchester, and gave the mare a feed of meal and water, and enquired the way to Newton [ Heath. Any person giving such information, as will lead to the appre- hension of the offender, and recovery of the Mare, will be handsomely rewarded. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, County Constabulary Station, Stockport, Cheshire. — Bow- street, September 10. Stolen 7tli instant, from Grove- terrace, Battersea :— a grey horse Pony,' A. C.' branded on back ; a set of patent leather Harness ; and a light spring Cart, painted dark green, back board damaged. By two men who called at the owners, and on being allowed a trial with a view to purchase at once decamped :— one 20 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, fair; dressed in moleskin trousers, black billycock hat; the other 19 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion; dressed in cord trousers, woollen cap, no coat or vest. Description iff a tramping watch cleaner, native of Belgium, charged with stealing on 10th instant, at Worthing, a Watch which he- pawned the same day in Brighton :— about 29 years or" age, 5 feet 5 or 6 iuches high, dark complexion, dark curjj hair, clean shaved, lio whiskers or moustache ; dressed '. in long dark ribbed cloth coat, trimmed with black braid, liack cloth vest, brown cloth trousers, hard felt black bowLjr hat, side- spring toe- capped and imitation lace- up boots, blacS necktie with red spots, large knot; carries a few tools in his pocket, and speaks English imperfectly. Information to Mr. Supt. Silvester, West Sussex Constabulary, Worthing. — Bow- street, September 15. Charged on warrant with stealing, on 2nd instant, from a beer- house, at Grantham, { where she had been lodging, a dark sealskin Jacket, short, loose- fitting, lined with brown satin, quilted, left iiside pocket, has an impression on left elbow, and in good condition ; a moiro antique silk Dress, made plain, cuffs recently bound, with three plain buttons on each, body fastens in front with buttons, skirt lined with black lawn, the body with calico, watch pocket left side, and bound with silk braid round the bottom, aud in good condi- tion ; a white linen Petticoat with one deep tuck, and has several iron moulds; a white calico Petticoat with tucks, large one near the top ; a white calico Petticoat, with inser- tion and tucks alternately ; a scarlet flannel Petticoat, been washed and colour run into the hand ; a calico Chemise, with edging round top ; a fpair of calico Drawers, insertion round bottom ; a pair of drab Corsets, nearly new :— ELIZABETH CANTRELL, about 30 years of age, medium height, thin figure, long thin face, light complexion and light hair ; she is supposed to be wearing part of the stolen property. Wanted on a warrant, charged with larceny in Anglesey ; — RICHARD HUGHES, late of' Cross Keys' Inn, Chester- street, Birkenhead, sailor, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 ins. high, brown complexion, full face, remarkably dark eyes, dark hair, no whiskers, image of a mau supposed tattooed on left arm. Has friends living at 9, Bouudary- street, and 83) Ellison- street, Liverpool. Information to Inspector Hughes Police Station, Menai Bridge, Anglesey.— Bow- street, Sept. 15' Charged on warrant with embezzlement :— WALLIS E. JONES, a confectioner's traveller, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slender build, fail complexion, light hair ( parted in centre), moustache, and slight side whiskers, rath r near sighted ; of gooel address ; dressed in dark brown coat and vest, light trousers, and straw hat. Is well known at Btentford, at which place he was previously employed. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Hayes, Borough Police Office, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- s'reet, September 15.
