The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respoeting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending tho same, and all applications in roforenco to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, I'olico Court, Bow Street, London, W. Whenever it is desired that any porson should be appre- hended, and the Name is giron, it is indispensably necessary that an information should bo made and sworn to boforo a Magistrate, of the Oilcnco chargod, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwardod to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for tho insertion of any articlc in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor UlUMt be prepaid, otherwise the insortion will not bo made. Tho Nuraes and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • C Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on " War Oflleo Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insortion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tho reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The porson by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any eipectation of reward for the roturn of tho property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." Found in the fore- court of 40, Vale- road, Ramsgate, on the evening of 27th instant:— a brown paper Parcel, con- tuning the dead body of a newly- born female Child, wrapped in a portion of the Kent Echo Newspaper of ' 17th September, 1880.' An inquest has been held, and a verdict returned of ' Wilful Murdei against some person or persons unknown.' Information to Head Constable Buss, Ramsgate, Kent.— Bow- street. August 30. M. of W. B., died Sept. lltb, 1877' attached ; a double- case silver Geneva Watch, with gold Albert Chain, and imitation half Spade Guinea attached. Stolen from the person at Scarborough Race Course, ou 28th ultimo :— a silver lever Watch, No. 82430, cer. tre seconds, glass cracked, gold Albert Guard attached, curb pattern, with pendant, one side white the other dark. Information to Mr. Supt. Spence, North Riding Constabulary, Pickering, or to Inspector Dove, County Police Office, Falsgrave, Scarboro', Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 1. Stolon from the person at Preston, on night of 25th instant:— a silver lever Watch, whito dial, gold hands, chronometer balance, makers Leatherland & Co., Liverpool, No. 1721, had attached a long silver Chain. £ 2 reward is offered. Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Preston.— Bow- street, August 30. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. . Remanded until Oth instant, charged with housebreaking : gives his name ROBERT JONES, born at Llanberis, North Wales, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, brown hair, sandy moustache, and oil chin, shaved cheeks, long visage, blue Bunken eyes, blue speck below right temple, scar in front abovo left wrist; dressed in black round felt hat, white linen monkey jacket, with narrow cross bar stripes of blue, old grey cloth vest, cord trousers, and boots.. States he tramped about Cumberland for 2 years, and left there about C mouths ago. His photo, on application to the Governor of H. M. Prison, Ca narvon. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Hughe, Towyn, or to G. Griffiths, Police Station, Penrhyndendraeth, Merionethshire.— Boic- st., September 3. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Southfleet, during 28th instant:— an old fashioned verge Watch, maker Lowe, Dartford; a lady's small silver Watch, worked gold face, No. 21981 ; a gold keeper Ring ; 2 gold Brooches, one shape of a harp, the other has 3 small green stones, also 1 red and 1 white do.; a pair of gold Ear- rings ; a set of gold Studs ; and about £ b in Money. Supposed by 3 young men, one dressed in red and black striped guernsey ; one in brown coat ; the other cannot be described. Information to Mr. Supt. Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, August 30. During the night of 28th July last an attempt was made to enter the vicarage at Hardingstone, and GEORGE HARRIS, a tramp, was committed for trial on 31st ultimo, for the offence :— he is 42 years of age, 5 feet 10J inches high, dark brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, medium build ; dressed in a dark mixture tweed suit, very much worn, old light boots, and bowler hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Williamson, Hazelwood- road, Northampton.— Bow- street August 30. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from Lovesome hill, near Brompton, on 19th instant :— a black cloth Coat, with velvet collar, bound with black braid, black covered buttons, and dark lining ; a black cloth Vest, to match ; a pair of dark grey check tweed Trousers; a brown mixture tweed Suit; a pair of low Shoes, laced ; 4 pairs of grey worsted Stockings, have been darned and footed, all men's size, and half worn ; a white and red spotted bundle Handkerchief ; and a wash leather Purse, containing 14s. in Silver. Stolen from the rectory, at Stickney, between 12 p. m. on 26th and 6 a. m. on 27th instant :— 1 large old- fashioned cruet Stand, without bottom, would hold 7 bottles, crest on side — horse's head ; 1 small silver cruet Stand, would hold 3 bottles, which were left and the silver tops taken ; 4 large silver table Spoons, bead pattern, crest— horse's head ; 6 dessert ditto ditto ; 1 large Gravy ditto ; 2 Egg ditto; 5 Tea ditto ; 1 Bauce Ladle, ditto; 6 large silver Forks, crested as above ; 5 small ditto ditto ; 2 silver Sauce Boats, crested ; 1 ditto Teapot and Stand, crested ; 1 ditto old- fashioned Sugar Basin, crested ; 1 pair of silver Sugar Bows ; 1 electro plated top of Claret Jug ; 1 ditto Ice Bucket and Tongs with claws ; 1 ditto Top from large Mustard Pot; 1 ditto, crested ; 1 ditto Cayenne Spoon with glass knob ; 1 round electro- plated bed Candlestick and Extinguisher; 6 plated F'sh Knives and Forks, ivory handles, stamped on blades ' J. P.'; about £ 7 in Gold, and £ 3 in Silver amongst which were a gof d many Sixpences ; 1 small carpet Bag, very old and faded ; 1 blue pilot top Coat, nearly new, blue plaid lining, with black buttons, would fit a man 5 feet 4 or 5 inches, slight build. Whoever will give such informa- tion as to lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, shall, on conviction, receive £ 10 reward. Information to Mr. Supt. Richdale, Spilsby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- st., Avg. 30. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. The iron grey Horse, supposed to have been stolen from Othery, Somerset, on the night of 29th ultimo, advertised in the Police Gazette of 1st instaut, has been recovered.— Bo'x- street, September 3. Charged under warrant with stealing an Ass ( since recovered) from Cidegill, Llanfairnantgwyn, Pembrokeshire : — JOHN BURKE, alias BRIAN CASEY, 41 years of age, 6 feet 11 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair, tuft of whiskers on chin, stout figure, lost second joint two first right fi ugers ; a tramping tinker. Information at Chief Constable's Office, Haverfordwest, or to Mr. Supt. Thomas, Fishguard, Pembrokeshire.— Bow- street, September 3. In custody at Worcester, on suspicion of having stolen a very dark chestnut ( nearly brown) Mare, 6 years old, 14 banc's high, with long tail, hollow Jback, large belly, and ' J. B.' marked on near fore hoof; and a roan Foal, with white mark ou nose :— a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7i inches high, black hair, small black whiskers, florid com- plexion, oval face, three burn marks on right arm, four blue marks on left, blue spot on right ear, do. on forehead. On him was found a police [ Supervision paper iu the name of THOMAS HAWKER, issued by the Governor of H. M. Prison, Gloucester, supervision commencing January 1, 18S0, and ending December 31, 1881. Information to Detective Phillips, City Policc, Worcester.— Bow- street, September 1. Absconded on 14th instant, charged with stealing a brown Pony, 12 hands high, switch tail, sore withers ; and a blue village Cart, picked out white, ' Edward Birdeck, 68, Grove Road, H. Y.' thereon, containing a white waterproof Coat, and a Whip:— EDWARD SKAKESPEARE, or SHAKESPEARE, 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion and hair ; dressed in dark clothes, a native of Culham, Berks. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, August 30. Stolen from Plas teg near Mold, on 23rd instant:— 2 Bullocks, rising 2 years old, one red, one red and white; also a red and white heifer, rising 3 years old. Information to Inspector MinshuU, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow street, Avg. 3'\ LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Solen between 4' 30 and 515 p. m., on 30th ultimo, from a watchmaker's shop at Haslingden:— a silver lever Watch, sunk seconds, engine- turned cases, No. 34601, with brass pin through the bow, and a long snake- pattern gilt Guard attached. By a young man, who went into the shop and asked to look at a pipe iu the window, and sent the girl in chaige of the shop to the back door to fetch her father who had gone out; he wore a pair of black ribbed trousers and billycock hat. Information at the County Police Office, Bacup, Lancashire.— Bow- street, September 3. Absconded on 16th ultimo, from Llandrinio, Montgomeryshire, charged on a warrant with stealng; a Bicycle, recovered :— a man known as JOSEPH DEQUIN, alias DYKES, native of Manchester, where he is likely to go, about 29 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown eyes, black hair turning grey, thin dark whiskers and mous- tache, long thin pale face ; dressed in small hard jim crow hat, brim turned up at sides, a long black cloth coat, light vest, brown plaid cloth trousers, old shoes, clumsly repaired, paper front, with corner of collar turned down, black necktie, walks with a fancy stick, shabby genteel appearance, sometimes cuts peoples hair at public houses, at others pretends to practice phrenology in public houses, and has been working with boatmen, about the Cefn, Ruabon, Wrexham, & c., can write - ihort hand, was seen in Liverpool) and was in Holyhead, on 22nd instant, where he rquested a box to be sent addressed ' to b? left at the Railway Station, Holyhead, till called for '.. Information to Mr. Supt. Ellis, Welshpool, or to John Rogers, Police Station, Llandysilio, Llnymynech, R. S. O. who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., September 3. Stolen from a van at Brownlands, Kirkpatrick Juxta » about 12 noon, 27th ultimo :— a man's brown grey Shooting Coat, pockets in skirts, one inside and one outside left breast, ticket do. on right side, brown composition buttons, two ov three on each sleeve, lined in body with dark winsey, sleeves with white cotton, ' Irvine Bell and Sons' on tab at neck, nearly new ; a pair of man's elastic- side Boot?, plain soles, row rj nails round outside of heels, neaj'y new ; a pair of man's Shetland grey Socks, worn. Supposed t y a man, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender make, reddish hair and whiskers, and walks lame ; dressed in long dark coat and cap, and likely to be wearing the stolen pro- perty. Information to the Chief Constable, County Building?, Dumfries.— Bow- street, September 1. Stolen on 28 th July, from off a hedge at Tyneha3, Darowen :— a pair of nearly new blue woollen Stockings, man's size, white tops, red strip in centre of white, knitted in large ribs. A tramp is suspected, between 30 and 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high ; dressed in old dark clothes, cap, and very old pair of boots ; turns his feet out when walking. Information to Chief Constable Danily, Newtown, or P. C. Humphreys, Cemmes, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, September 1. Description of a man who gave the name of JOHN JACKSON, watch and clock cleaner, wanted on warrant for larceny as bailee, at Knottingley :— about 52. years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, sallow complexion, light brown hair, turning grey, tuft of hair on chin, and slender built; dressed in black cloth coat and vest, light brown trousers, dark blue overcoat, billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; was seea on 16th July, getting out of the 5 p. m. train from Leeds at Ardsley Station. Information to Mr.. Supt. Whincup, West Riding Constabulary, Pontefract.— Bow- street,, Sept. 1. Charged with stealing a number of Watches :— MORRIS CLYNES, or KLINES, 20 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, medium build, black curly hair, full face ; dressed in black worsted suit, black billycock hat ; is a tailor by trade, and a German by birth, but speaks English well. Information to Central Police Office, Leeds.— Bow- street, S'ptember 1. Stolen on 30th ultimo, from George Gill, at Staithes,:— a blue small ribbed cloth Coat, with black velvet collar, 2 pockets outside hip3,1 inside aud 1 outside breast, has been repaired on one sleeve, partly worn. Supposed by a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, supposed brown or sandy whiskers ; dressed in stolen coat, moleskin trousers, and lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Ryder, North Ricing Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— liow- streei, September 1. Description of JOHN WILSON, alias BENJAMiN TUPONAN, remanded until 6th instant, at Saint Asaph, en a charge of stealing a Shirt :— he is about 38 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, ruddy complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, proportionate build, round face, scar on chest, scar on right temple, cut ou the back of the second finger of the left hand ; dressed in a hard black felt hat, narrow brim, black tweed coat, brown striped tweed vest and trousers, and lace- up boots; states he is a native of Rotherham, that he 3 weeks since left his wife and four children at Mer. ohoster, he appears to know all parts of England, has boen travelling the country sharpening saws ; was on 29th June, at Bangor, Carnarvonshire, sentenced to 7 days li. 1, for stealing a Coat. Information to Mr. Supt. Hughes, Police Office, Holywell, Flintshire.— Bow- street, September 1. Stolen from a tailor's shop at Prestwich, between 11 a. m. and 12 noon, 27th instant:— a black cioth ribbed Coat, bound with black silt braid, two pockets outside with flaps, nearlv new ; and a black ribbed cloth Vtst, two pockets ou left side aud one on right do., nearly new. Supposed by two men — one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, slender build, and no whiskers; dressed in dark clothes and black billycock hat; the other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, aud sm ly hair ; 4 POLICE GAZETTE. September 10 dressed in dark monkey jacket, brown cloth . trousers, and billycock hat. Information to County Police Office, Old T ratio rd, Manchester, Laucashire.— Bwc- slreet, August 30. Stolen on the morning of 25tli instant, from New Bradwell, Bucks :— a brown beaver Coat, and an old pair c ised silver Watch. By two men who lodged in the house for three nights previous :— one about 25 years of ago, 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in black coat, striped vest, and mole- skin trousers, and is very bow legged ; the other about 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in black coat an 1 vest, and cord trousers, split at right knee, the little linger on right hand deformed, one is an iron striker, and the other an engiue fitter ; stated that they had been working in the London and North Western Railway Works at Birming- ham ; they sold the things the same day at Buckingham, and took train to Verney Junction, at which place they asked the way to Oxford, Swindon, and Bristol, and most likely will be found working or seeking employment in some of the large works. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hedley, Fenny Stratford, or to Inspector Moore, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Boio- streot, August 30. Wanted charged on a warrant, with embezzlement: — JOSEPH WYKES, late of Grove Villas, Wanstead, aud 5, Salters hall court, City, 44 years of age, looks younger, 5 ft. I) or 10 inches high, reddish hair, beanl and complexion, walks very upright ; dresses well, in black frock coat, light trousers, and black hat. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Deparlmant, City Police, Old Jewery. — Bow- street, August 30. Stolen from a dwelling- house between 1' 30 and 2 30 p. m., on 26th instant:— a gold Geneva Watch, No. 1271, has a mazeppa, turrounped by forget- me- nots engraved on the back, aud glass broken ; a gold Chain, with Seal and Key attached ; a gold Necklet and Locket, with photo of a girl inside; a pair of plain gold Ear- rings, and Brooch to match ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, with blue stones ; a silver Ear- ring, filigree work ; a diamond Ring, with 6 stones ; and a plain gold Keeper. By a man, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slight build, dark complexion ; dressed in black suit, aud high hat, . and carried a light polished cane. THOMAS KING, charged on a warrant with stealing ou 9th instant, 19s. from his lodgings, at Wyrley, and advertised in the Police Gazette, of 20th instant, has been apprehended, and remanded to H, M. Stolen between 1 and 2 p. m. on 20th instant, from a jeweller's shop Tunbridge Wells:- a small black. Tray, containing 3 plain coloured gold Lockets, different sizes; 1 secret link albert Chain and key Drop; 1 Belcher Chain ; a lady's second- hand cold Watch, gold dial, maker Braby; 1 silver Geneva Watch, small face, antique figures ; 1 new s'lver Geneva Watch, crystal glass, registeied; 4 gold Nap > Ieons ; 1 ten fiauc Piece ; 6 francs in Silver ; 1 pair col > ured earring Wires ; and 9 pairs of blight gold do. Obtained, at Maidstone, by false pretences, ou 31st lilt. : — a black mare Pony, 12J hauds high, in fair condition, mark on the near fore leg caused by the tip of shaft; aud a Cart painted dork greej, picked out with light green, splash board m frout; silver- plated Harness, nearly new. By a man, about 30 ycard of age, about 5 feet 7 iuches high, dark com- pletion, no whiskers, slight moustache ; dressed in dark coat, dark gicy trousers and vest, and black rouud felt hat. Information to the Head Constable, Maidstone, Kent.— Bow street, September 3. Description of a man who gives his name as R. H. HASTINGS, charged pn a wariant with having, on 15th July last, at Hay breconshire, obt riued £ 8 Is. 8d. by means of false pre'ences, by giving a Chequo on the Loudon and Pro- vincial Bank, Limited, Newport Monmouth Branch, purporting to be signed by Charles R. Groves :— he is of respectable appearance, from 65 to 60 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, grey hair, whiskers, aud moustache ( whiskers rouud chin) intermixed with dark hair, leaua slightly forward when walking, aud carries a slick ; dressed in a light suit of grey clothes, new, and dark felt h it. i le follows no occupation, and appears to be a genfleipan of independent meai s. He stayed in this town about ( i weeks at an ordinary public- house, and went away about 21st ultimo, aud took train in the direction of Heieford. lie appears to be well acquainted with all the towns in North and South Wale-, and can speak Welsh. Sentenced at Lewes, on 31st ultimo, for larceny, four months:— FREDERICK WHEATLEY, 33 years of age, ft feet " J inches high, sallow complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, proportionate figure, scar on and over left eye- brow, nose been injured, small blue mark over right eyebrow, tear iusidr right thumb ; dressed as a labourer ; single, native of Blunham, near Bedford, a labourer. Statos his father, James Wheatley, resides at Blunham, near Bedford. Infor- mation at Chief Constable's Office, or Mr. Supt. Osbon, Lewes, Suss; - — Bow- street, September 3. Remanded at York Castle, until 11th instant, on a charge of stealing a Watch, recovered :— ANTHONY LOMAX, 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, brown eyes, brown hair, sallow complexion, scar below left ear. States that he is a mtive of Preston, Lancashire, aud has undergone 5 years detention in the North Lancashire Reformatory. Information brown jacket, black vest, plaid trousers, and black bowler hat; states he was born at Waterford, Ireland, and been a soldier. Information to Head Constable Coward, Borough Police Office, Guildhall, Dorchester, Dorset. — Bow- s'. reet, September 3.
