Notice.— It is requested lliat all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may hear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. •#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is giren, it is indispensably necessary that . an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Offa » Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in tho POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tie reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any eipectation of reward for the return cf the propeity, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may he at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS IffUEDEl AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found in the fore- court of 40, Vale road, Ramsgate, on the evening of 27th instant:— a brown paper Parcel, con taining the dead body of a newly- born female Child, wrapped in a portion of the Kent Echo Newspaper of ' 17th September, 1880.' An inquest has been held, and a verdict returned of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Information to Head Constable Buss, Ramsgate, Kent.— Bow- street, August 30. The woman, supposed to have placed a female child about 3 months of age, in a pond at Glen Parva, near Leicester, about mid- day on 17th instant, advertised iu Police Gazette of 25th instant, has been apprehended.— Bow- street, August 30. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Preston, on night of 25th instant:— a silver lever Watch, white dial, gold hands, chronometer balance, makers Leatherland & Co., Liverpool, No. 1721, had attached a long silver Chain. £ 2 reward is offered. Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Preston.— Bow- street, August 30. Stolen from the person, at the Shrewsbury Railway Station, on theeveaing of 19th instaut :— a gold lever Watch, fall plate, thick cases, maker, Mondsley, Liverpool; and also a heavy gold Albert Chain attached. Information to Head Constable Davies, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, August 25. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by mears of housebreaking, at Southfleet, during 28th instant:— an old fashioned verge Watch, maker Lowe, Dartford ; a lady's small silver Watch, worked gold face, No. 21981 ; a gold keeper Ring ; 2 gold Brooches, one shape of a harp, the other has 3 small green stones, also 1 red arrd 1 white do.; a pair of gold Ear- rings ; a set of gold Studs ; and about £ b in Money. Supposed by 3 young men, one dressed in red and black striped guernsey ; one in brown coat; the other cannot be described. Information to Mr. Supt. Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, August 30. During the night of 28th July last an attempt was made to enter the vicarage at Hardingstoue, and GEORGE HARRIS, a tramp, was committed for trial ou 31st ultimo, for the offence :— he is 42 years of age, 5 feet 10$ inches high, dark brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, medium build ; dressed in a dark mixture tweed suit, very much worn, old light boots, and bowler hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Williamson, Hazelwood- road, Northampton.— Bow- street August 30. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from Lovesome hil1, near Brompton, on 19th iustant :— a black cloth Coat, with velvet collar, bound with black braid, black covered button?, and dark lining ; a black cloth Vest, to match ; a pair oi dark grey check tweed Trousers; a brown mixture tweed Suit; a pair of low Shoes, laced ; 4 pairs of grey worsted Stockings, have been darned and footed, all men's size, and half worn ; a white aud red spotted bundle Handkerchief , and a wash leather Purse, coutaining 14s in Silver. Stolen from the rectory, at Stickney, between 12 pm. on 26th and 6 a. m. on 27th instant :— 1 large old- fashioned cruet Stand, without bottom, would hold 7 bottles, crest on side horse's head; 1 small silver cruet Stand, would hold 3 bottles, which were left and the silver tops taken ; 4 large silver table Spoons, bead pattern, crest— horse's head ; 6 dessert ditto ditto; 1 large Gravy ditto; 2 Egg ditto; 5 Tea ditto ; 1 sauce Ladle, ditto; 6 large silver Forks, crested as above ; 5 small ditto ditto ; 2 silver Sauce Boats, crested ; 1 ditto Teapot aud Stand, crested ; 1 ditto old- fashioned Sugar Basin, crested ; 1 pair of silver Sugar Bows ; 1 electro plated top of Claret Jug ; 1 ditto Ice Bucket and Tongs with claws ; 1 ditto Top from large Mustard Pot; I ditto, crested ; 1 ditto Cayenne Spoon with glass knob ; 1 round electro- plated bed Candlestick and Extinguisher; 6 plated Fish Knives and Forks, ivory handles, stamped on blades ' J. Whoever will give such informa- tion as to lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, shall, on conviction, receive £ 10 reward. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 10 and 12 a. m. 15th instant, at Basford, Stoke- on- Trent :— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 4264, maker ' Steer, Derby'; 12 silver tea Spoons, marked ' B.' on top, and star ou under side ; a gentleman's gold Ring, 18 carat, with a stone in which is a small hole on one side ; and about £ 1 10s. in Gold aud Silver Money. Supposed by two men, lat. a tall man, wearing a white jacket, and shanty hat ; the other a short man ; wearing dark clothes, aud shanty hat ; and had the appearance of Mechanics. Stolen from an unoccupied home, during the morning of 24th instant, by means of housebreaking :— a large size Stewart tartan Shawl, iu good condition. Information to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- on- Tyne. - Bow- street, August 27. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Lillington, between 1 and 2p. m. 24th instant:— a very small chamber Candle- stickj silver, with extinguisher, stamped ' T. D.'; an Inkstand, about 8 inches long by about 5 iuclies wide, with two grooves for pens and fitted with two rouud glass ink Bottles with silver or electro- plated tops, the stand is flat, standing on four smal' chased feet, crest— a lion rampant holding au hour glass, w ith motto ' Fugit Hora,' at present it is not known if tbe stand is silver or electro- plate. Information to Mr. Supt. Frankton, Kenilworth, or Inspector Hannah, Milverl u, Warwickshire. — Bow- street, August 27. Encombe House, Wareham, Dorset, was burglariously entered on the night of 12th instant, and stolen therein :— 1 Necklace, single diamonds. 2 diamond Bracelets, with diamond brooch centres, ( not pairs). 1 diamond Brooch, octagon ruby centre, stone more purple than usual, and slight flaw. 1 square diamond Brooch, that had contained a minia- ture. 1 large Sapphire Stone, set in gold Brooch. 1 diamond Tiara. 3 small diamond Clasps. Silver- gilt Mounting of Flagon, set with precious stones. 1 large Seal with ivory handle, carved with satyr's head, above 6 inches long. 1 gold Pencil- case, with stone seal on top— anchor and port cullis engraved thereon. 12 silver Table Spoons, crest— coronet and lion's head. 11 do. Information to Chief Constable Amyatt, Dorchester, Dorsetshire.— Bow- street, August 23. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Absconded on llth instant, charged with stealing a brown Pony, 12 hands high, switch tail, sore withers ; and a blue village Cart, picked out white, 1 Edward Birdeck, 68. Grove Road, H. Y.' thereon, containing a white waterproof Coat, aud a Whip:— EDWARD SKAKESPEARE, or SHAKESPEARE, 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion aud hair; dressed in dark clothes, a native of Culham, Berks. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, August 30. Stolen from Plas teg near Mold, on 23rd instant:— 2 Bullocks, rising 2 years old, one red, one red and white ; also a red and white heifer, rising 3 years old. Information to Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- street, Aug. 30. Stolen ou 23rd instaut, at 6 a. m. :— a grey Pony, 13 hands high, black head aud legs, tail cut short. Information to the Chief Constable, Carnarvon.— Bow- street, August 27. Stolen from a field at Marston Green, on the morning of 25tli instant:— a blue roan Gelding, about 13 hands high, black legs, and dark nose. A young man wearing dark clothes was seen to fetch it from the held, he was afterwards joined by two other youths, and all went off iu the direction of Birmingham, Information to Mr. Supt. Yardley, Solihull, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, August 27. The two men, charged with stealing the Horse, Cart, and Harness, ou the night of 13th ultimo, from Brougham Rectory Farm, Westmorland, were traced to Burton- in- Kendal aid Skerton, near Lancaster, on ( the afternoon of 14th ultimo ; they may have gone acr ss country into Yorkshire or Lanca- shire, Manchester or Liverpool, or other large towns. The Horse ia a light bay half- bred gelding, 3 years old, about 14J hands high, white star on face, wiite hind feet, and short tail, value £ 35 ; a black set of brass- mounted Harness, been in use about 3 years, never repaired ; a new Whitechapel Cart, country made, painted black with red and blue lines, has a broken spoke wrapped round with tar twine, and old. cushions covered with dark American leather. Supposed by two men, oue dressed in dark clothes, and the other in grey. A Horse aud Trap, answering the description of the above described, was seen at Shap, at 4 a. m. on 14th ultimo, going south. Information to Mr. Supt. Spencer, Appleby, West- morland.— Bow- sireet, August 27. The dark irotr grey or blue roan Pony, stolen from the Warwickshire Moor, Tamworth, on 20th June last, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 30th June, has not been recovered. The Pony mentioned ia the Gazette of 30th June as having been seen going through Glascote was not the one stolen. The stolen one ia believed to have passed through Lady Bridge Toll Gate, Tamworth, on the night it was stolen, in the direction of Birmingham, Walsall, and Wolverhampton. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Atherstone, Warwickshire, — Bow st., August 25. 2 August 30 LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a tailor's shop at Prestwich, between 11 a. m. and 12 noon, 27th instant:— a black cloth ribbed Coat, bound with black silk braid, two pockets outside with flaps, nearly new ; aud a black ribbed cloth Vest, two pockets on left side and one on right do., nearly new. Supposed by two men :— one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, slender build, and no whiskers; dressed in dark clothes and black billycock hat; the other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, and sandy hair ; dressed in dark monkey jacket, brown cloth trousers, and billycock hat. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Auqiist 30. Stolen on the morning of 25th instant, from New Bradwell, Bucks :— a brown beaver Coat, and an old pair c . sed silver Watch. By two men who lodged in the house for three nights previous ;— one about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in black coat, striped vest, and mole- skin trousers, and is very bow legged ; the other about 24 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high ; dressed in black coat anil vest, and cord trousers, split at right knee,' the little finger on right hand deformed, one is an iron striker, and the other an engine fitter ; stated that they had been working iu the London and North Western Railway Works at Birming- ham ; they sold the things the same day at Buckingham, and took train to Yerney Junction, at which place they asked the way to Oxford, Swindon, and Bristol, and most likely will be found working or seeking employment in some of the large works. Information to Mr. Superintendent Hedley, Penny Stratford, or to Inspector Moore, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Bow- street, August 30. Wanted charged on a warrant, with embezzlement: — JOSEPH WYKES, late of Grove Villas, Wanstead, and 5, Salters Hall court. City, 44 years of age, looks youuger, 5 ft. 9 or 10 inches high, reddish hair, beard and complexion, walks very upright ; dresses well, in black frock coat, light tronsers, and black hat. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City Police, Old Jewery.- Bow- street, August 30. Stolen from a dwelling- house between 1 30 and 2 30 p. m., on 26th instant:— a gold Geueva Watch, No. 1271, has a mazeppa. surrounped by forget- me- nots engraved on the bick, and glass broken ; a gold Chain, with Seal and Key attached; a gold Necklet and Locket, with photo of a girl inside ; a pair of plaiu gold Ear- rings, and Brooch to mat; h ; a pair of gold Ear- rings, with blue stones ; a silver Ear- ring, filigree work ; a diamond Ring, with 5 stones ; and a pi tin gold Keeper. By a man, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slight build, dark complexion ; dressed in black suit, and high hat, and carried a light polished cane. Information to Head Constable Buss, Ramsgate, Kent.— Bow- street, August 30. THOMAS KING, charged on a warrant with stealing on 9th instant, 19s. from his lodgings, at Wyrley, and advertised in the Police Gazette, of 20th instaut, has been apprehended, and remanded to H. M. Prison, at Stafford, till 30th instant. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Cockerell, Police Station, Cannock, near Stafford.— Bow- street, Aug. 30. Absconded on 16th inslaut, from Llandrinio, Montgomeryshire, charged on a warrant with stealing a Bicycle, recovered :- JOSEPH DEAKIN, alias DEANIN, alias DYKES, native of Manchester, where he is likely to go, about 29 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown eyes, black hair turning grey, thin dark whiskers and moss- tache, long thin pale face ; dressed in siuall hard jiin crow hat, brim turned up at sides, a long black cloth coat, light vest, brown plaid cloth trousers, old shoes, clumsly repaired, paper front, with corner of collar turned down, black necktie, walks with a fancy stick, shabby genteel appearance, sometimes cuts peoples hair at public houses, at others pretends to practice phrenology in public houses, aud lies been working with boatmen, about the Cefn, Ruabon, Wrexham, can write short hand, was seen in Liverpool, aud was in Holyhead, on 22ud instant, where he rquested a box to be sent addressed ' to be left at the Railway Station, Holyhead, till called for'. Information to Mr. Supt. Ellis, Welshpool, or to John Rogers, Police Station, Llandysilio, Llnymynech, R. S. O. who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., August 30. Wanted at Brierly Hill on warrant, charged with larceny a* bailee on 12th June last:— ICHARD COLLEY, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, black hair turning grey, thick black whiskers and moustache, dark eyes, medium build ; a carpenter and joiner, and native of Kingswinford, married ; dressed in a drab cloth jacket, dark grey trouseis and vest, and drab round soft hat with narrow brim. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Police Office, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Auqust 30. Stolen between 1 and 2 p. m. on 20'. h instant, fiom a jeweller's shop at Tunbridge Wells :- a small black Tray, containing 3 plain colourea gold Lockets, different sizes; 1 secret link albert Chain and key Drop ; 1 Belcher Chain ; a ladys econd- hand gold Watch, gold dial, maker Braby ; 1 silver Geneva Watch, small face, antique figures ; 1 new silver Geneva Watch, crystal glass, registered ; 4 gold Napoleons ; 1 ten franc Piece ; 5 fraucs iu Silver; 1 pair Coloured earring Wires ; and 9 pairs of bright gold do. By a man, about 21 year3 of age, 5 feet 8 iuches high, dark com- plexion, full face, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in a black ribbed suit, white shirt, blue and white tie, hard felt hat, and lace- up boots. Information to the Head Constable, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- st., August 30. Wanted on a warrant for embezzlement :— WILLIAM HUGHES, late of Faversham, 22 years of age, 5 feet 0inches high, sallow complexion, hazel eyes, black hair, whiskers, aud small moustache, high cheek bones, speaks quickly; dressed in dark clothes, and bowler hat. Was invalided from the 12th Regiment of Foot about two years ago, and is likely to endeavour to re- enlist. Information to Head Constable Breary, Faversham, Kent.— Bow- streeJ, August 27. Wanted by warrant, charged with stealing on 20th instant, a cash Box, and £ 73;— ERNEST FRANK DARKE, draper's assistant, 17 years of age, 0 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers, beard, or mous- tache ; dressed when last seen in blue cheviot sac coat, black trousers, low crown black felt hat. Supposed in company of a youuger brother, Lewis Darke. £ 10 ward will be paid for his arrest by his late employers. Information to Mr. Supt. Hiuks, Police Office, Ryde, Isle of Wight— Bow- itreet, August 27. Wanted at Bridgnorth, for embezzlement:— ALEX. WILSON BURGES, a traveller, native of Birmingham, 24 years of age, about 5 feet high, brown hair, rather dark com- plexion. dark eye, with pleasing countenance; has a wife at No. 1, Nelson- street, Norfolk- street, Manchester. Supposed to have been to sea as a steward, and most likely will try to go again ; dressed in dark clothes, and very often wears sea boots. Warrant granted for his arrest, aud photo can be forwarded. Also wanted at Bridgnorth-, ifer entering a dwelling on the night to commit burglary, oli 2nd instant :— WILLIAM. JONES, alias GREEN, a native of Bridgnorth, about 20 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, brown hair, no whiskers or beard, and very pale and sallow complexion ; been used to drive cattle at fairs which n ® doubt he will follow about the country; dressed in very old dirty clothes, and when left was without shoes or stockings ; has- been convicted many times for larceny. Warrant granted for his arrest. Information to Chief Constable Cole, Bridgnorth, Salop.— Bow- street, August 27. The above it is strongly suspected were stolen by two men who arrived in this town by a London train, at 9 55 a. m., the same day, and who left by the I' 45 p. m. train, for Liverpool Street Station, reaching there at 4 p. m. They are about 20 or 22 years of age, about 5 feet 5 iuches high, one believed to be fair, the other dark and believed to have short hair ; both dressed in black cloth coat, waistcoat and trousers, with black low felt hats, one of them wearing a waistcoat buttoned close up to the throat with a row of small black buttons, and had an impediment in his speech. Their mode seemed to be for one of them to destract the attention of the shopkeeper whilst the other purloined what he could get. The prisoner was in the habit of calling upon clergymen of the Church of England, and presenting letters purporting to have been written by other clergymen, and representing him to be a deserving object of clarity. Description of a woman who gives her name JESSIE WHITE, remanded at Middlesbrough until 11 a. m. on 30th instant, charged with vagrancy :— she is a native of Dumfries, Scotland, 50 years of age, 4 feet 11 inches high, slight figure, fresh complexion, black hair, dark eyes. She has with her two coloured children ( girls), named respectively Eliza, age 8 years, and Jessie, age 5, who prisoner' states are her own, which statement is questioned. States that she lived with her husband, Jeremiah White, a coloured man, in a house at the Dam Side, Keighley, but the children were born— the former at Blackburn, and the latter at Doncaster. Her husband was employed as a labourer at Mr. Somergill's foundry about 3 years ago, and left her at Keighley, and has not seen him since. This woman was sent from Jarrow- on- Tyne, in June last, to Durham Gaol a month for begging with these children, after which she went into South Shields Workhouse with them.
