INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of a woman, supposed to have placed a female child about 3 months of age, iu a pond at Glen Parva, near Leicester, about mid- day on 17th instant:— about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion aud hair, broad features, and rather inclined to stoutness ; dressed as a respectable servant girl, in dark straw hat, dark dress, aud Spoons black jacket, was carrying a brown paper parcel aud b'ack Forks, half- dozen silver dessert Spoons, half- dozen silver tea bag, a shirt the child was wearing is marked ' W ' in marking S| o > us, all marked ' C'; 2 small silver Forks, 2 small silver ink, has also a small mark in red cotton ; the woman has been ~ traced from Leicester, along the Saffron Lane, to where the child was found, and from there to Broughton Astley, where she took the train to Rugby, at 4 55 p. m. that day. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Coppinger, Police Court, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, Avgnst 23. About 11 a. m. ou llth instaut, the dwelling- house of George Boulton, of Moddershall, near Stone, was eutered, and stolen I herein : a silver English pateut lever Wa'cb, No. 6523, maker's name ' D. Price, Birmingham ' ; half- a- Sovereign iu Gold; 10s. iu Silver; and about 4s. worth of Denny postage Stamps. By a man, about 5 feet 8 iuches high ; dressed in dark brown jacket and trousers, the latter much worn about the legs, and soft hrowu hat. Supposed to be in company with two other men, one of whom wore a green shade over one eye. Information to Mr. Supt. Crisp, Police Office, Stone, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., Avg. 23. Wanted on a warrant for burglariously breaking and enteiii. g a dwelling- home at Upper Sandgate, on 17th inst, : — HENRY GILDEN, bricklayer's labourer, 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, inclined to curl ; dressed in - vhite slop, light fustian or moleskin trousers, red wrapper or handkerchief round neck ; he left behind a billycock hat, blue lining, and a pair of military ammunition boots of ' E. K. Militia, No. 1582, dated 1877. He may be found at a tramp's lodging- house. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Gill, Town Hall, Folkestone, Kent.— Bow- street, August 23. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Ingrow, Keighley, between 1 and 2 am. on 21st instant;— a silver lever Watch, large size, cream- coloured dial, large figures, steel hands and seonds, engine- turned case, capped, brass spring or push to open case ; a gold snake- pattern Albert, 9- carat, with ' J. M.' stamped upon swivel; 3 pairs of drawing Compasses, and two loose legs for another pair. The thief left a red and white cotton pocket Handkerchief in the house. Information to Mr. Supt. Ireland, West Riding Constabulary, Keighley.— Bow- street, August 23. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person, at the Shrewsbury Railway Station, on the evening of 19th instant:— a gold lever Watch, full plate, thick cases, maker, Mondsley, Liverpool; and also a heavy gold Albert Chain attached. Stolen from the person on the Racc Course, ou 19th and 20lh instant:— A lady's gold Geneva Watch, engraved, 18- carat gold case, No. 50,199. A small silver Geneva Watch, maker Terry, with brass Chain and gold Locket attached, containing photo of a man and woman. A gold Pin, with small black stone iu centre. Information to Mr. Supt. Head, Oxford.— Bow- st., August 23. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen from an unoccupied house, during the morning of 24th instant, by means of housebreaking :— a large size ste a art tartan Shawl, in good condition. Information to the Chief Constable, Central Police Station, Newcastle- on- Tyne. Bow street, Auaust 27. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Lillington, between 1 and 2pm. 24th instant:— a very small chamber Candle- stick, silver, with extinguisher, stamped ' T. D '; an inkstand about 8 inches long by about 5 inches wide, with two grooves for pens and fitted with two round glass ink Bottles with silver or electro- plated tops, the stand is flat, standing oi four small chased feet, crest— a lion rampant holding an hour glass, with motto ' Fugit Hora,' at present it is not known if the stand is silver or electro- plate. Information to Mr Spoons, marked ' K. M. C.' ; a small silver dessert Spooi, bent ; a child's silver Fork and Spoon," embossed ; a large silver Fish- slice aud Fork, fancy pattern ; a silver Inkstand, ' Presented to A. Calvert, by the 6th Form, Tunbridge School, July, 1857 '; 4 silver christening Mugs, one antique, unmarked, one marked ' A. R. C.' one ' M. C.' and one ' K. M. C.' ; 2 electro- plated Mug*, one marked ' Ella' and one ' M. C.'; 4 silver salt Spoons', ' willow'; a dozen electro egg Spoons. Supposed by two men, 1st. a tall man, wearing a white jacket, aud ndianty hat ; the other a short man ; wearing n k c othes, aud shanty hat ; and had the appearance of Mechanics. Information to Mr. Supt. Simpson, Epping, or uspector Robinson, Police Station, Chipping Ongar, EsseX — Bow- street, August 25. Encombe House, Wareham, Dorset, was burglariously entered on the night of 12th instant, and stolen therein :— 1 Necklace, single diamonds. 2 diamoud Bracelets, with diamond brooch centres, ( not pairs). 1 diamond Brooch, octagon ruby centre, stone more purple than usual, and slight flaw. 1 square diamond Brooch, that had contained a minia- ture. I large Sapphire Stone, set in gold Brooch. 1 diamond Tiara. 3 small diamond Clasps. Silver- gilt Mounting of Flagon, set with precious stones. 1 large Seal with ivory handle, carved with satyr's head, above 6 inches long. 1 gold Pencil- case, with stone seal on top— anchor and port cullis engraved thereon. 12 silver Table Spoons, crest— coronet and lion's head. Information to Chief Constable Amyatt, Dorchester, Dorsetshire.— Bow- street, August 23. Stolen, by meams of housebreaking, at Northfleet, Kent, on 16th instant:— a black cloth Jacket, pockets at side ; black cloth Vest; pair of black cloth Trousers; pair of dark Stolen during the night of 17th instant, at Thame :- » -* three silver pint Cups, marked ' R. J. C.', two plain and one chased; a double- barrel, central fire Gun, maker's name en lock, ' Boreham, Cambridge'. A man about 35 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, moustache, little or no whiskers ; dressed in loose grey overcoat, dark under suit, low crown felt hat, and wearing a gold ring is suspected ; he was traced to Princes Risborough, whence he booked to Paddington, by the 8.12 a. m. train, and at that time had the Gun ( which he had taken apart) in his possession. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow street, August 23. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on 23rd instant, at 6 a. m. :— a grey Pony, 13 hands high, black head and legs, tail out short. Information to the Chief Constable, Carnarvon.— Bow- street, August 27. Stolen from a field at Marston Green, on the morning of 25th instant :— a blue roan Gelding, about 13 hands high, black legs, and dark nose. A young man wearing dark clothes was seen to fetch it from the field, he was afterwards joined by two other youths, aud all went off in the direction of Birmingham, lrformation to Mr. Supt. Yardley, Solihull, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, August 27. The two men, charged with stealing the Horse, Cart, and Harness, on the night of 13th ultimo, from Brougham Rectory Farm, Westmorland, were traced to Burton- in- Kendal aLd Skerton, near Lancaster, ou the afternoou of 14th ultimo; they may have gone acrss country into Yorkshire or Lanca- shire, Manchester or Liverpool, or other large towns. The Horse is a light bay half- bred gelding, 3 years old, about 14$ hands high, white star on face, white hiud feet, and short tail, value £ 35 ; a black set of brass- mounted Harness, been iu use about 3 years, never repaired ; a new Whitechapel Cart, couutry made, painted black with red and blue liues. Ins a broken spoke wrapped round with tar twine, aud old cushions covered with dark American leather. Supposed by two men, one dressed in dark clothes, aud the other iu grey. A Horse and Trap, answering the description of the above described, was seen at Shap, at 4 a ni. on 14th ultimo, going south. Information to Mr. Supt. Spencer, Appleby, West- morland.— Bow- street, Auqust 27. The dark iron grey or blue roan Pony, stolen from the Warwickshire Moor. Tamworth, on 20th June last, and advertised in the Police Gazette of 30th Juue, has not beeu recovered. The Pony mentioned in the Gazette of 30th Juue as having beeu seen going through Glascote was not the one stolen. The stolen one is believed to have passed througli Lady Bridge Toll Gate, Tamworth, ou the night it was stolen, iu the direction of Birmingham, Walsall, and Wolverhampton. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Atherstone, Warwickshire. — Bow St., August 25. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Wanted on a warrant for embezzlement :— WILLIAM HUGHES, late of Faversham. 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, hazel eyes, black hair, whiskers, and small moustache, high cheek bones, speaks quickly ; dressed in dark clothes, and bowler hat. Was invalided from the 12th Regiment of Foot about t >' o years ago, aud is likely to endeavour to re- enlist. Information to Head Constable Breary, Faversham, Kent.— Bow- street, August 27. o POLICE GAZETTE. August 27 Wanted by warrant, charged with stealing on 20th instant, a cash Box, aud £ 73 :— ERNEST FRANK DARKE, draper's assistant, 17 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers, beard, or mous- tache ; dressed wheu list seen in blue cheviot sac coat, black trousers, lo v crown black felt hat. Supposed iu company of a younger brother, Lewis Darke. £ 10 reward will be paid for his arrest by bis late employers. Information to Mr. Supt. Hinks, Police Office, Ryde, Isle of Wight.— Bow- itreC, August 27. Wanted at Bridgnorth, for embezzlement:— ALEX WILSON BURGES, a traveller, native of Birmingham, 24 years of age, about 5 feet high, brown hair, rather dark com- plexion. dark eye, with pleasing countenance ; has a wife at No. 1, Nelson- street, Norfolk- street, Manchester. Supposed to have been to sea as a steward, and most likely will try to go again : dressed in daik clothes, and very often weal's sea boots. Warrant granted for his arrest, and photo can be forwarded. Also wanted at Bridgnorth, for entering a dwelling on the night to commit burglary, on 2ud instant :— WILLIAM JONES, alias GREEN, a native of Bridgrorth, about 20 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 1 inch high, brown hair, no whiskers or beard, and very pale and sallow complexion ; been used to drive cattle at fairs which ne doubt he will follow about the country ; dressed in very old dirty clothes, and when left was without shoes or stockings ; has been convicted many times for larceny. Warrant granted for his arrest. Information to Chief Constable Cole, Bridgnorth, Salop. Bow- street, August 27. Stolen from a dwellinghouse, at Clapham, near Bedford, during the afternoon of 25th instant:— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 69320, with long gold Chain attached ; a silver Bracelet; a gold Locket containing dark brown hair ; a gold Brooch ; 6 gold Rings ; and about 10s. in Silver and Bronze Coins, entrance effected by a window which had beeu left open during the absence of the family. Supposed by a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 incites high, fresh complexion, full red face, light hair, small whiskers, stout build dressed in dark billycock hat, flat crown, short brown coat, dark grey mixture trousers and vest, lace- up boots, with brass eyelet holes; stated he had been a butler iu London. Information to Mr. Supt. Kennedy, County Police Station, Bedford, Beds.— Bow street, Auq. 27. Stolen from a watchmaker's shop, at Cambridge, on 24th instaut, the undermentioned Watches :— A lady's gold Geneva, no hands, out of repair, blue enamel back, has been set with diamonds, No. 10831. A do. do. gold dial, No. 29091. A silver Geneva, crystal glass, patent lever on dome, No. 4128. A do. do. open faced, old fashioned, No. 53/ 02. A do. do oat of repair, No. 37955. A do. do. silver dial, minus the second hands, ' 7630' on dome on outer case, No. 48470. A silver hunting Verge, maker— Cogil; W. Thompson' engraved on shield and garter iu front, No. 3457, A silver Boston Watch, No. 1734. A do. do. No. 3710. A large silver hunting Geneva, with brass Chain. The above it is strongly suspected were stolen by two men who arrived in this town by a London train, at 9 55 a m., the game day, and who left by the V45 p. m. train, for Liverpool Street Station, reaching there at 4 p. m. They are about 20 or 22 years of age, about 5 feet 5 iuches high, one believed to be fair, the other dark and believed to have short hair ; both dressed in black cloth coat, waistcoat aud trousers, with black low felt hats, oue of them wearing a waistcoat buttoned close up to the throat with a row of small black buttons, aud had an impediment in his speech. Their mode seemed to be for one of them to destract the attention of the shopkeeper whilst the other purloined what he could get. They were both slim built, and had the appearauce of costermongers in their Sunday clothes. Information to Chief Supt. Turrell, Cambridge.— Bow- street, August 27. Wanted at Dumbarton, on warrant, charging him with embezzlling the Funds of the Dumbarton Branch, of the Scottish National Operative Tailors' Trade Protection, and Benefit Society CHARLES BOYLE, a journeyman tailor, native of Dumbarton, wheie he served his apprenticeship, about 21 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 iuches high, thin features, slender make, dark hair, no whiskers or moustache; dressed when he left Dumbarton, iu a light tweed s> iit, aud round hard felt hat. Was accompanied by EDWARD ADAMS, a tramping tailor; lame of left leg, and walks with a stout staff. Information to Mr. Supt. Cumming, Burgh Police Office, Dumbarton.— Bom- street, August 27. Stolen on 24th instant, about 1T5 p m. :— a gold Brooch, round shape, large pearl in Centre, and about 8 pearls round it; a p ur of gold Ear- rings, round shape, peail in centre, aud small pearls round it, to match the brooch ; a lady's gold dress Bing, set with pink coral, a wavy sort of setting ; a lady's Australian gold dress Ring, large size and thick set with garnets and pearls ; a gold half mourning Ring, size, black enamel on each side of setting, set with large pearl in centre, rubies on each side ; a gold Ring, set with blue and white stones; a gold Locket, oval shaped, containing two photos, one of a girl, the other one of an infant, had a gold necklet Chain. Supposed by a man, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, well built, smart appearance, dark hair, dark complexion, fresh colour, whiskers shaved off, rather long face, spoke the South country dialect ; dressed in dark suit of clothes, and hard felt hat. Information to Chief Constable, Detective Department, Newcastle- upon- Tyne.— Bow street, August 27. Wanted under a warrant for larceny of £ 20, as a bailee : — ERNEST JOHN KNIGHT, solicitor's clerk, 40 to 42 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, shaved qn chin and upper lip, dark hxir and whiskers, round shouldered, one rather higher than the other, carries his head a little on one side ; dressed in black coat, light dust coat over, light cloth trousers, and black silk hat. Carried a black leather bag, containing a valuable deed. His photo can be forwarded on application to Mr. Supt. O'Kill, Police Court, Sevsnoaks, Kent, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, August 25. Charged with embezzling £ 14 3s. 8d. on 12th instant:— HENRY B. CORKE, a commercial traveller to a wine merchant, 31 years of itgp,<$ feet 6 or 7 inches higb, fair com- plexion, grey eyes, light brown hair turning grey, cut very short, small moustache, no whiskers, stout figure, mark on bridge of nose; dressed in round black felt hat, black frock coat and vest, marked ' H. R. Corke,' grey check trousers, or stripes, few shoes, lay- down collar, broad tie, and gold pin, On tation, arink and loose flash company; when in drink has a laughing scream, and snores heavily in sleep. Supposed left Liverpool on the night of Friday, the 28th May ; was seen at North London Station at 4 30 in the afternoon of the 29th, and at the Westminster Aquarium, with a woman, about 10" 30 the same night. £ 100 reward, 5 per cent, on money recovered, and expenses guaranteed, will be paid for the arrest of Sleddall by his late employers. Inquiry requested at Hotels and Shipping Offices. Information to Chief Supt. Williams, Detective Department, Liverpool.— Bow- street, August 20. Absconded, charged with larceny of Plate, Pictures, & c., ( recovered) fioin Bachelor's Furniture Warehouse, Broad Green, Croydon, in January last : — CHRISTOPHER CARROLL, a clerk, 40 years of age, 6 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, brown hair, heavy moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in blue serge suit, round felt hat ; speaks French well; American accent; is well known at Brighton, where he has relatives; and is supposed to be now employed in accom- panying tourists from this country to the continent as guide and interpreter. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— — Metropolitan Police, August 27. Wanted upon a warrant at Hastings, charged with stealing a Watch and Chain, on Llth instant, since found pledged :— MARGARET HARRIS, a servant, 18 years of age, 5 feet high, full red face ; dressed in black cloth jacket aud black straw hat, trimmed with black ribbon ; has an uncle at the White Horse Inn, Edgely, near Slough, Bucks. Infor- mation to Mr. Chief Supt. Glenister, Hastings, photograph can be sent on application— Bow- street, August 25. shape of a shield, angola socks, aud elastic stockings. 12th instant he left his torse and cart at Balcombe St took a ticket to Brighton by 6 30 train, and has not boen heard of since. Supposed to have gone to France or to Spain. He is fond of drink, is of good education, and for some time was choir master at East Grinstead Church. Has lived at Sevenoaks with his friends, also at Dover. Folkestone, and Andover as a draper's assistant. Has a wife and three children at East Grinstead. Information to Mr. Supt. Description of a woman who gives her nami JESSIE WHITE, remanded at Middlesbrough until 11a. m. on 30th instant, charged with vagrancy :— she is a native of Dumfries, Scotland, 50 years of age, 4 feet 11 inches high, slight figure, fresh complexion, black hair, dark eyes, ibhe has with her two coloured children ( girls), named respectively Eliza, age 8 years, and Jessie, age 5, who prisoner'states are her own, which statement is questioned. States that she lived with her husband, Jeremiah White, a coloured man, in a house at the Dam Side, Keighley, but the children were bom— the former at Blackburn, and the latter at Doncaster. Her husband was employed as a labourer at Mr. Somergill's foundry about 3 years ago, and left her at Keighley, and has not seen him since. This woman was sect from Jarrow- on- Tyne, iu June last, to Durham Gaol a month for begging with these children, after which she went into South Shields Workhouse with them. She has been going up aud down the country begging with these children, but more particularly the North.
