Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose o obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offender or tolon property, may bear the Signature of tht. pertui: r quiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and swom to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will ilot be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must Btate clearly:—( 1) The amount of tl e rpward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by t'ne persons forwarding them. Stolen from the person at Newport, Monmouth, on 2nd inst. :— a gold lever Hunting Watch, No. 23983, maker E S. Yates & Co., Liverpool, with a gold albert, anchor pattern, attached, with appendage ; a Seal with ' S. B.' in German letters on one side, aud four stars and ' Cruzeiro' on the other, aud a large gold Portuguese coin with coat of arms on one side and ' Josephus D G. Portet, alg Rex 1771' on the other. Stolen from the person at Reading, on 24th ultimo : silver Geneva Watch, with second hands, aud chased back. Stolen from the person at the Great Western Railway Station, Reading, ou 2nd instant:— a silver English lever Watch, maker Player, Reading. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading Berks.— Bow- street, A ugust 9. Stolen from the person at Belle Vue, about 10 p. m., on 2nd instant:— a red leather Purse, without band, containing £ 7 10s. in gold, and a small parcel of diamonds, from 10 to 12 carats each, from the Cape. £ 5 reward will be paid for such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the property, or in pro- portion to the amount recovered. Description of GEORGE SADLER, late of Shurding- ton, near Cheltenham, charged with forgery :— about 65 yrs. of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, small whiskers down sides of face, thin Roman nose, and has the app arat. ee of a respectable farmer. Infor- mation to the Head Constable, City Police Office, Worcester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street. August 11. Charged on warrant with forgery and fraud, in Glasgow, in March and April last:— CHARLES QUEISSER, or HOFFMANN, a German, about 10 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, Ballow complexion, reddish brown hair, small whiskers and moustache, longish rouud face, large ears, scar behind left ear on neck, cast iu one of his eyes, stout short made, speaks with Glasgow Scotch accent; may be dressed in a blue serge suit. Had been for sometime employed as a clerk, by a firm of merchants, aud having fraudulently obtained two Cheques, forged the signatures of the firm, and obtained the money. He absconded in May last, and went to Germany, it has been ascertained that he returned this week, and is supposed to have gone to Manchester, or some other English town. In- formation to W. A. Brown, Esq., Advocate Procurator Fiscal of Lanarkshire, or to Chief Constable McCall, Glasgow.— Bow- street, August 11. Stolen by means of burglary, between 11 p. m., on 6th, and 7 a. m. on 7th inst., at Horley Surrey :— au old- fashioned gold Chronometer Watch, and the Case in which it hung, which was in the shape of a carriage or travelling clock, about 8 ins. high and 4 ins broad, front aud sides of plate glass set in gold frame, gilt top rising to a pinnacle, gilt door at back, gilt dial, plate with round hole iu centre through which the face of watch shewed, inside the case was a seal of red cor- nelian stone set in gold, engravedl with cr- st— a lion rampant, and initials ' J. N.'; an old- fashioned silver' shell- shape Scoop, about 2 ins. long ; a red check tartan silk Neckerchief, about a yard square ; a grey ulster Overcoat, wjth tabs on waist, short belt at back, aud grey bone buttons to match, would fit a youth about 5 feet high. Stolen from the person at Bell Vue Gardens, about 9.35 p. m. on 4th instant: a small gold Chain, curb pattern, 15 ins. lODg, had attached a small gold Locket, shape of a heart in the centre. Also stolen from the person in Hyde- road, Gorton, about 10 p m. ou 4th instant:— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 5515, gold dial, steel hands, and flowered case. Informa- tion at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, August 11. Stolen from the person, at Lewes, on 6th instant:— a gentleman's gold Watch, monogram ' F. E.' on one side. Stolen from the person at Newbury Flower Show, ou 2nd instant :— an old- fashioned pair case gold verge Watch, engraved on outer case ' W. E to M. E.', No. 6749, maker J. Williams, London ; a gold Albert Chain, curb pattern, with gold Key, about 2 inches long, aud gold Seal, the key has purple stone at the end, and the seal a cornelian stone, with a Grecian head engraved thereon. Stolen from the person in Prepton on lst instant:— a silver lever dead- beat Watch, cream- coloured dial, gold BURGLARY AND HOUSE . BREAKING. Stolen from Christ Church, Egerton, Turton, between 9 p. m 9th and 10 am. 10th ins. :— a black cloth funeral Pall with black border of a differaut material, 3 yards long, and 2i wide ; a piece of Carpet, 8 feet by 4 feet, drab with red spots ; a do. do, red and gre n, far worn : a do. 7 feet by 4 feet, do., these two are cut to fit the feet of the pews ; a pair of man's elastic- side Boots, patent leather top- i, nearly new, Entrance effected by getting on the roof of the heating apparatus, and break tug a stained glass window. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, County Police Office, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 13. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Bolton, between 12' 30 and 4 a. m. on 8th iustant ( entrance having been effected by breaking a large pane of plate glass in the drawing- room window) :— three silver Medals, awarded to Mr. Henry Julian, at Rochdale, Chester and Worsley agricultural Shows for Carriages; on one side there are figures of cows and sheep, and on the other ' Henry Julian,' & c. ; a small silver Mustard Spoon ; a pair of silver carved Sugar Tongs, with initials ' A. M. F.'; a Bohemian Glass Mug, about 2J ins. high, with glass lid bound with pe . vter metal, aud has the figure of a church cut on the glass; one of Gdby's pint Bottles, con- taining Wine; a pair of man's half Wellingtou Boots, stitched soles, aud in good condition ; a pair of man's low- down elastic side Shoes, black buttons down each side, toe-- capped, have been soled and heeled, aud are part worn ; a pair of woman's strong lace- up Boots, brass eyelets, plain fronts, small patch at the back of one boot, and are half- heeled with gutta percha. £ 1 reward will be paid by the owner for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves aid recovery of the property. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow street, August 11. Between 12 midnight on 6th and 6 a. m. on 7th instant, the dwelliug- house of Mr. James Peters, Newhaven, was burglariously entered and stolen :— a small sewing Machine, has been repaired at tlie tension nuts, maker's name Weir, commonly called Weirs, 55s. Sewing Machine can be identified by the repairs ; 2 pairs of Scissors, one pair neaily new, aud an old pair, both about 5 inches long ; 2 clothes Brushes, one very old and mucn worm- eaten, the other has a very light back and short hair ; a cotton under Vest, has been mended on the front at the arm ri^ ht, side ; a white damask cheese Cloth, has self fringe and a small quautity of Bread, Cheese, aud Butter. Information at Chief Constable's Office, or Mr. Supt. Osbon, Lewes, Sussex.— Bow- Street. August 9. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen at Chaseley, Rugeley, during the night of 7th instant:— an ewe Lamb, Shropshire breed, pure bred, no mark on it. Also stolen at Bowen Farm, Etching Hill, Rugeley, on the night of 9th instant:— a yearling ewe Sheep, black face, and in good condition, marked on off side, with the letter ' H'. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, Stafford, or to Inspector Barrett, Town Hall, Rugeley, Staffordshire. — Bow- st., August 13. The Horse reported stolen in the Police Gazette of llth instant, from War leigh, has been recovered, and a man named GEORGE NORRIS, is in custody, charged with having stolen the same.— Bow- street, August 13. Stolen during the night of 5th instant, from a field in Wellington- road, Smethwick :— a- dark mouse- coloured Mare, agea, 14i nands high, black legs, maue, and tail, near on left ribs, saddle mark on back, off foreleg slightly bowed, and iu very low condition ; a heavy spring Trap, painted dark greex, new spring over axle, two pins penetrate each side of body from top to bottom, the name ' James Bartholomew, Smethwick,' painted on side of body ( recovered) ; also a set of silver mounted Harness, nearly new, with the initials ' D. T.' thereon; 3 horse Rugs, of various colours ; a white Mackintosh, with grey waterproof lining aud white buttons ; aud a pair of leather Leggings with spring sides. A reward of 10 guineas will be paid for the recovery of the Harness and conviction of the thief or thieves. Information to Mr. Supt. Description of GEORGE TIDY, charged on a warrant for stealing a black Horse, from Leyton Marshes, advertised in Police Gazette of 23rd April lasl:— 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion and hair; dressed n d- u- k i^ s'~ ture suit. A horse dealer, frequents country fairs. Infor- nation to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W. — Metropolitan 1' olice, August 11. Stolen during the night of 8tli instant, from Higher Berse Farm, near Wrexham :— a dark brown cart Horse, 3 years old off, 16 hands high, with small white star on forehead. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Wilde, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bow- sireet, August 11. Stolen at Ripon, by means of . housebreaking, during the night of 3rd instaut:— 6 small silver Tea Spoons, new ; 2 do little larger, old ; and 3 large silver Spoons, all marked with letter 4 D'; also a small gold headed Pin with green stone; small gold Locke' ; and a pair ot cornelian Bracelets, set in silver, 6 or 7 pieces in each Bracelet, with silver clasps. Stolen by means of burglary, on the night of 4th instant, from Chalfont House, Chalfont St. Peter:— 4 fiddle- pattern silver Teaspoons, crest— hand holding a crescent. Stolen about 9 a m. on 10th instant, at Birkdale :— a gold lever Watch, gold face, ' M. F.' inside one of the cases, maker Wainwright, Southport, No. 57665, had attached a long twisted gold Chain, and an oval shaped Locket, By a man about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light hair, slight moustache, rather slender build ; dressed iu brown overcoat, dark blue trousers, blue satin scarf, and black billy- cock ; he went to the house about 8 a m., asked for apartments, said he was about to commence work at the Post Office Information to Mr. Supt. Jervis, Police Office, Ormskirk, or at the Central Police Office, Dale- street, Liverpool.— Bow- street, August 13. Description of EDWARD W. COATES, agent to Messrs. Wilson, Jerner and Co., accountants aud debt collectors, 1 ano 2, Chiswell- street, Finsbury Pavement, charged with stealing, on 1st instant, an English silver lever Watch, No. 92309, maker D. J. Hoy. Nattishall, Wilts, a l. ng silver Guard attached ; and a small round gold Locket, containing grey hair :— about 25 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, light hair, light blue eyes, irregular teeth, rather large head; dressed in black cloth coat, bound with black braid, light cloth trousers with brown stripe, and a light vest, black felt hat, and drab and white cheek necktie, small pattern. Information to Inspector Culley, Thetford, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his arrest..— Bow- ntreity August 13. Description of MARGARET GIBSON, charged with stealing from her lodgiugs at Wrexham, on 9ih instant : a black and white woollen Shawl, with a red stripe running through the same ; a grey winsey Skirt ; a maroon Skirt ; a pair of woman's Boots, 3 size, rough Morocco leather; a black Hat, turned up on one side, black velvet trimmings ; a pair of Drawers, woman's; and a pair of Stockings ; a black : leather Purse, with brass fastenings, containing 6d. iu Silver : — about 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, saudy hair, pro- minent eyes, full round face, red nose, sun freckled, stout , made, native of Cardiff, or Aberdare. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Clarke, Midhurst, West . Sussex.— Bow- street, August 13. Stolen from a bedroom at the ' Star' beerhouse, at Ash- ford, between 8 and 9 p. m., on llth instant ;—£ 9 10s. Silver and one Sovereign. By THOMAS ASHER, a lodger, who absconded the night of the robbery, 28 to 30 years of age, 5 fret 7 or 8 inches high, light complexion and hair, light blue eyes, small light moustache, no whiskers, stout build, rather large nose, thick lips, and large tattoo mark on breast; dressed iu a brown coat aud vest, dark striped cloth trousers, nearly new lace- up boots, white wrapper round neck, and brown soft hat; has been in the. army, and holds a cer- tificate of proficiency in gymnastics ; lias served in the Kent Constabulary and also in the Northamptonshire Constabulary. Has a brother in the General Post Office, Northampton. A warrant is issued for his apprehension. Information to Ser- geant Highwood, Kent Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, August 13. Absconded from St. Alban's, on 7th instant:— EDWARD VIGT, a watchmaker, charged with stealing a silver Watch, since recovered, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, slight dark maustache, very much pockpitted, no • whiskers. He stated he has a brother living at Northampton in business for himself. Information to Mr. Supt Pike, Police Office, St. Alban's, Herts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., Aug. 13. Absconded on 2 ad instant, charged with stealing £ 80 :— ROBERT MORE, 15 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, slim build, oval face, broad forehead, slightly round shouldered, long legs, and flat- footed. Likely to be found at Shipping Offices, & c., endeavouring to go to America or New Zealand. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, August 11. Description of JOHN PINKET, a labourer or collier, native of Bullwell, who absconded from Pinxton, on 27th ultimo, charged on warrant with stealing a black cloth Coat, with pockets on hips ; a pair of men's lace- up Boots, witli large flat rouud headed nails in the centre of sole; a black hair: dressed in black cloth suit, and black hard felt bat He is of unsound mind, and it is feared that some ill has be- fallen him. Information to Chief Constable Cater, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- stree:, August 13. c^ oth Cap, ribbed, which he is supposed to be wearing:— about 2b 3ears of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slender, walks erect, having betn iu the army, sindy hair and moustache; dressed in black jacket, dark checked trousers, and Militia boots; is a member of the Newark Militia, and said to be well known at Barnsley, and Nottingham. Information to Mr. Supt. Coope, Alfreton, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, August 11. Stolen from the Vestry of Feering Church, during Divine Service, on the afternoon of 8th instant:— a brown silk Umbrella, with cherry wood handle, bark on, small at point, thickening up to the knob. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, red face and neck, ginger moustache, and pug nose ; dressed in hard black felt hat, black frock coat, trousers, and vest, white cuffs, and Blucher boots, no nails. Information to Mr. Supt. May, Police Station, Witham, Essex.— Bow- street, August 11. MORRIS PRICE JONES, charged under a warrant • with larceny from tho Crown Inn, Corwen, and advertised iu the Police Gazette of 12th January last, is still at large ; he is an army reserve rnau, and supposed to be passing as THOMAS PARRY JONES, information to Sergeant Williams, Corwen, Merionethshire. - Bow- street, Avgust 9. " Wanted, by warrant, charged with stealing ,£ 1300, the moneys of liis employers :— ALEXANDER SLEDDALL, cashier, 30 > ears of age, but looks older, 5 feet 10 inches high, weight 15 stones, handsome features, well proportioned build, stout full habit, dark eyes, the whites of which are tinged as those of a half cast, olive complexion with no red tint, very small pimple under one ey, e, jet black thick hair, whiskers, beard and moustache, all trimmed pretty close, hands and body completely covered with hair, slight skin eruption on palms of his hands, solid composed demeanor, even under exitemeutksi eaks as though his tongue was a little too large, light watery swelling left point of torehead, slight permanent swelling from an old tooth in the right cheek, very small hands and feet, walks erect with swinging gait, and swings his arms, rather deaf left ear; generally dressed in thick black cloi hes, aud black silk or roun< 1 hard felt hat; fond of drinR and oose flash company ; when in drink has a laughing scream, and suores heavily in sleep. Supposed left Liverpool on the night of 28th May; was seen at North London Station at 4' 30 pm. 29th, and at the Westminster Aquarium, with a woman, about 10' 30 the same night. £ 100 reward will be paid for the arrest of Sleddall by his late employers, 5 per cent, on money recoveied, aud expenses guaranteed. Charged on warrant with larceny as a bailee of a silver lever keyless Watch, maker Bennett London, No. 9757 :— FREDERICK HOMER, of Reading Berks, a travelling clock and watch maker, about 30 years of age, dark hair, small >. ark brown or sandy moustache aud whickers ; dressed in dark clothes, black low hat;' carried a small box, wrapped in dark American leather. Information to Inspector Butcher, Police Station, Wallingford, Berks.— Bow- itreet August 9. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Wanted on a warrant for obtaining Money by false pre- tence ou 31st ultimo: — a woman who gave the name of NETTLETON, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, very p ile complexion, slight build, peculiar expression about the mouth and tongue when desirous of creating an impres- sion ; soautily dressed in black, carried a crape shawl, and of respectable appearance. Represents that she is a disabled Wesleyan Day School Teacher at the Oxford- place Schools, Leeds, just discharged from hospital, aud sent away by friends to recruit her health. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Gill, Borough Police Office, Town Hall, Folkestone, Kent. — , August 13. . Missing from his home at Walsall:— WM. TOOVEY, 28 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, scar on left eyebrow, scar o£ old wound on the right eye, and dark brown In custody, charged with obtaining Boots by means of false pretences, at Luton, on 7th instant:— HENRY BAGSHAW, 22 years of age, 5 feet 8$ inches high, dark com- plexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, scar on left cheek, slender build ; dressed in dark frock coat, dark trousers, grey vest, and low hard felt hat. Pawntickets were found in° his possession for boots pawned on various dates during the last 6 weeks, at Kidderminster, Worcester, Coventry, Northamp- ton, and Bedford. Information to Head Constable Jaquest, Borough Police, Luton, Bedfordshire.— Bow- street, August 11. In custody on a charge of larceny :— GEORGE WOOD, 36 years of age, 5 feet 84 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, moustache but no whiskers, scar on left shoulder and in centre of back, and right leg much emaciated from a burn; dressed in old dark cloth coat, grey mixture ' est, fustian trousers, black hard felt hat, and lace- up boots. States that he is a smith and served bis apprenticeship at Messrs. Laird's woiks at Birkenhead, and has since worked at Cardiff, Bristol, and other placss in the West of England. A duplicate was found in his possession, issued by George Arnold, No. 213, Kentish- town- road, on 3rd instant, for a suit of clothes and a pair of boots.
