Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the OfTence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all E. etter » addressed to the Editor muNt be prepaid, otherwise the insortion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Doserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of ti e reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of roward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. Description of GEORGE SADLER, late of Shurding- ton, near Cheltenham, charged with forgery :— abjut 65 yrs. of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, small whiskers down sides of face, thin Roman nose, and has the app arai. ee of a respectable farmer. Infor- mation to tho Head Constable, City Police Office, Worcester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 11. Charged on warrant with forgery and fraud, in Glasgow, in March aud April last :— CHARLES QUEISSER, or HOFFMANN, a German, about 10 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, sallow complexion, reddish brown hair, small whiskers aud moustache, loogish rouud face, large ears, scar behind left ear on neck, cast iu oue of his eyes, stout short made, speaks with Glasgow Scotch accent; may be dressed in a blue serge suit. Had been for sometime employed as a clerk, by a firm of merchauts, and having fraudulently obtained two Cheques, forged the signatures of the firm, and obtained the money. He absconded in May last, and went to Germany, it has been ascertained that he returned this week, aud is supposed to have gone to Mauchester, or some other English town. In- formation to W. A. Brown, Esq., Advocate Procurator Fiscal of Lanarkshire, or to Chief Constable McCall, Glasgow. Bow- street, August 11. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Bell Vue Gardens, about 0.35 p. m. on 4th instant: a small gold Chain, curb pattern, 15 ins. long, had attached a small gold Locket, shape of a heart in the centre. Also stolen from the person in Hyde- road, Gorton, about 10 p. m. on 4th instant:— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 5516, gold dial, steel hauds, and flowered case. Als » stolen from premises at Brighton : — On 3rd instant, 7 ladies gilt Collars, 20 gilt Necklets, several gilt Lockets, and Albei t Chains, of various patterns, On 4th instant, 2 gold- gilt Bracelets, one a flat band Bracelet, with several small blue stones, and the other an oval band Bracelet, chased. Stolen from the person at Newbury Flower Show, on 2nd instant :— an old- fashioned pair case gold verge Watch, engraved on outer case ' W. E to M. E.', No. 6749, maker J. Williams, London ; a gold Albert Chain, curb pattern, with gold Key, about 2 inches long, and gold Seal, the key has a purple stone at the end, and the seal a cornelian stone, with a Grecian head engraved thereon. W.' in the back of outer case, No. 2141, maker Thomas Yates, Preston Also stolen from the person in Preston on night of 2nd ins. — a dead- beat silver lever Watch, No. 5913, extra jewelled, maker Thomas Yates, Preston, and had attached a short silver Albert Guard. Stolen from the person at Newport, Monmouth, on 2nd inst. :— a gold lever Hunting Watch, No. 23983, maker E. S Yates & Co., Liverpool, with a gold Albert, anchor pattern attached, with appendage; a Seal with ' S. B.' in German letters on one side, and four stars and ' Cruzeiro' on the other, and a large gold Portuguese coin with coat of arms on one side and ' Josephus D G. Portet, alg Rex 1771' on the other. Stolen from the person at Blackley Sports, iibout 6 30 p. m 31st ult. :— a silver lever Watch, silver flowered dial, gold hands, ' £ 3. 0. 0.' scratched inside of case with a pin, ' E. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Bolton, between 12' 30 and 4 a. m. on 8th instant ( entrance having lieen effected by breaking a large pane of plate glass in lha drawing- room window) :— three silver Medals, awarded to Mr. Henry Julian, at Rochdale, Chester and Worsley Agricultural Shows for Carriages ; on one side there are figures of cows and sheep, and on the other ' Henry Julian,' & c. ; a small silver Mustard Spoon ; a pair of silver carved Sugar Tongs, with initio* ' A. M. 17 ; n- Bohemian (. 3'— " i* SsJ uia higfe, with glass lid bound with pester metal, and has the figure of a church cut on the glass; one of Gilby'a pint Bottles, con- taining Wine; a pair of man's half Wellington Boots, stitched soles, and in good condition ; a pair of man's low- down elastic side Shoes, black buttons down each side, toe- capped, have been soled and heeled, and are part worn ; a pair of woman's strong lace- up Boots, brass eyelets, plain fronts, small patch at the back of one boot, and are half- heeled with gutta percha, £ 1 reward will be paid by the owner for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves and recovery of the property. Between 12 midnight on 6th and 6 a. m. on 7th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. James Peters, Newhaven, was burglariously entered and stolen :-— a small sewing Machine, has been repaired at the tension nuts, maker's. name Weir, commonly called Weirs, 55s. Sewing Machine can be identified by the repairs; 2 pairs of Scissors, one pair neaily new, and an old pair, both about 5 inches long ; 2 clothes Brushes, one very old and much worm- eaten, the other has a very light back and short hair ; a cotton under Vest, has been mended on the front at the arm right side ; a white damask cheese Cloth, has self fringe and a small quantity of Bread, Cheese, and Butter. Information at Chief Constable's Office, or Mr. Supt. Osbon, Lewes, Sussex.— Bow- street, August 9. Stolen at Ripon, by means of [ housebreaking, during the night of 3rd instant:— 6 small silver Tea Spoons, new ; 2 do. little larger, old ; and 3 large silver Spoons, all marked with letter ' D.'; also a small gold headed Pin with green stone; a Small gold Locket : and a pair of cornelian Bracelets, set in silver, G or 7 pieces in each Bracelet, with silver clasps. Information to Mr. Supt. Metcalf, City Police Office, Ripon, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 9. Stolen by means of burglary, on the night of 4th instant, from Chalfont House, Chalfont St. Peter:— 4 fiddle- pattern silver Teaspoons, crest— hand holding a crescent. Also stolen from the Vicarage, Chalfont St. Peter, on the same night, by means of burglary :— a missionary Box, con- taining is., the box has been found on the road broken open. Stolen by means of burglary, between 11 p. m., on 6th, and 7 a. m. on 7th inst., at Horley, Surrey :— an old- fashioned gold Chronometer Watch, and the Case in which it hung, which was in the shape of a carriage or travelling clock, about 8 ins. high and 4 ins broad, front aud sides of plate glass set in gold frame, gilt top rising to a pinnacle, gilt door at back, gilt dial, plate with round hole in centre through which the face of watch shewed, inside the case was a seal of red cor nelian stone set in gold, engraved with civet— a lion rampant, and initials'J. N.'; an old- fashioned silver shell- shape Scoop, about 2 ins. long ; a red check tartan silk Neckerchief, about a yard square ; a grey ulster Overcoat, with tabs on waist, short belt at back, and grey bone buttons to match, would fit a youth about 5 feet high. Information to Mr. Supt. Red- ford, Surrey Constabulary, Godstone— Bow- street, August 9. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING, Supposed stolen from a field at Warleigh, on the night of 7th instant :— a light grizzly coloured cart H.. rse, aged, about 17 hands high, silver mane and tail, and very high withers. Information to Mr. Supt. Morgan, County Police Station, Bath, Somerset.— Bow- streei, August 11. 2 August 11 Description of GEORGE TIDY, charged on a warrant for stealing a black Horse, from Leyton Marshes, advertised in Police Gazette of 23rd April last:— 30 yea> s of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion and hair ; dressed in dwk mixture suit. A horse dealer, frequents country fain. Infor- mation to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yatd, S. W. — Metropolitan Police, Auguit 11. Stolen during the night of 8th instant, from Higher Berse Farm, near Wrexham :— a dark brown cart Horse, 3 years old off, 16 hands high, with small white star on forehead. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Wilde, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bmo- street, August 11. Stolen during the night of 5th instant, from a field in Wellington- road, Smethwick :— a dark mouse- coloured Mare, aged, 14 J hauds high, black legs, mane, and tail, scar on left ritoa, saddle mark on back, off foreleg slightly bowed, and in very low condition ; a heavy spring Trap, painted dark greea, new spring over axle, two pins penetrate each side of body from top to bottom, the namo ' James Bartholomew, Smeth- wick,' painted on side of body. Also a set of silver- mounted Harness, nearly new, with the initials ' D. 17 thereon'; 3 horse Bugs, of various colours ; a white Mackintosh, with grey waterproof lining aud white buttons ; and a pair of leather Leggings with spring sides. A reward of 10 guineas will lie pail for the recovery of the Harness and conviction of the thief or thieves. Information to Mr. Supt. Likely to be found at Shipping Offices, & c., endeavouriug to go to America or New Zealand. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W .— Metropolitan I'olice, August 11. Description of JOHN PINKET, a labourer or collier, na'ivo of Bull well, who absconded from Pinxton, on 27th ultimo, charged on warrant with stealing a black cloth Coat, with pockets on hips ; a pair of men's lace- up Boots, with hurgd tut round headed nails in the centre of sole; a black cloth Cap, ribbed, which he is supposed to be wearing:— about 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slender, walks erect, having hem iu the army, study hair and moustache ; dressed in black jacket, dark chocked trousers, and Militia boots ; is a member of the Newark Militia, and said to be well known at Barnsley, and Nottingham. Information to Mr. Supt. Coope, Alfreton, Derbyshire. — Bou- street, August 11. Stolen from the Vestry of Feering Church, during Divine Service, on the afternoon of 8th instant:— a brown silk Umbrella, with cherry wood handle, b » i k on, small at point, thickening up to the knob. By a man, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, red face and nock, ginger moustache, and pug nose ; dressed iu hard black felt hat, black frock coat, trousers, and vest, white cuffs, and Blucher boots, no nails. MORRIS PRICE JONES, charged under a warrant villi larceny from the Crown Inn, Corwen, aud advertised iu the Police Gazette of 12th January last, is still at large ; ho is an army reserve man, and supposed to be passing as THOMAS PARRY JONES. Information to Sergeant Williams, Corwen, Merionethshire. - Bow- street, August 9. Wanted, by warrant, charged with stealing £ 1300, the moneys of his employers :~ ALEXANDER SLEDDALL, cashier, 30 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 10 inches high, weight 15 stones, handsome features, woll proportioned build,; stout full habit, dark eyes, the whites of which are tinged as those of a half cast, olive complexion with no red tint, very small pivuple under one eye, jet black thick hair, whiskers, biard and moustache, all trimmed pretty close, hands and body completely covered with hair, slight Bkin eruption on palms of his hands, solid composed demeanor, even; under exitement, speaks as though his tongue was a little too large, Blight watery swelling left point of torehead, slight permanent swelling from an old tooth in the right cheek, very small hands and feet, walks erect with swinging gait, and swings his arms, rather deaf left car; generally dressed iu thick black clothes, and black silk or round hard felt hat; fond of drink and loose flash company ; when in drink has a laughing scream, and snores heavily iu sleep. Supposed left Liverpool on the night of 28th May; was seen at North London Station at 4 30 p. m. 29th, aud at the Westminster Aquarium, with a woman, about 10' 30 the same night. £ 100 reward will be paid for the arrest of Sleddall by his late employers, 5 per cent on money recoveied, and expenses guaranteed. Further information respecting GEORGE CRAWSHAY, a journeyman watchmaker, advertised in Police Gazette of 0th ultimo, charged with stealing a Watch at Brynmaur. He haB been traced to Moreton- iu- Marsh, Gloucestershire, where he left on 21th ultimo. Information to Police Sergeant Joseph, Brynmaur, Breconshire, who holds a warrant for hiB apprehension.— Bow- street, August 9. Stolen about 3 p. m. on 3rd instant, in Newchurch:— a Coat ( recovered). By a man, a felter, 24 years of age, 5 feet 1 inches bit^ h, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, no whiskeis or moustache, has lost two left fingers; dressed in a moleskin suit, cloth cap, and clogs. Information to Mr. Supt. Henderson, Bacup, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 0. . Charged on warrant with larceny as a bailee of a silver lever keyless Watch, maker Bennett London, No. 9757 :— FREDERICK HOMER, of Reading Berks, a travelling clock and watch maker, about 30 years of ago, dark hair, small oark brown or saudy moustache and whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes, black low hat; carried a small box, wrapped in dark American leather. Information to Inspector Butcher, police Station, Wallingford, Berks.— Bow- itreet August 9. A French made horse clipping Machine was stolen from Farrington Gurney, ou 4th instant, supposed by a man who was seen carrying a similar machine, aud has absconded :— he is from 36 to 40 } ears of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium 1 uild, light biown hair, light brown whiskers, cut short, siuiill moustache, shaves chin, sunburnt complexion, blue ey- H. cnt on hack i f head fr^ m recent fall; dressed in old I avd bowler hat, < Id dark brown overcoat, old mixed cloth troi seis, and elastic- side boots, Stated that he had served in the Afghanistan W service on 6d. per day, has a* mation to Mr. Supt. Emson, J Cloud, Bristol.— Bow- street, A Further information respecting the gold Watch stolen from a shop in Spalding on 6th ultimo :—- a ladies full plate gold Lever, No. ftjjjtnjrfker's name either Briggs or Wilson. Supposed by a i^^ Vto 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 ins. high, military ap^^ rance, no whiskers, long light moustache, thin face, high cheek bones. Supposed gone to London. In' formation to Mr. Supt Leaper, Spalding, Lincolnshire, who will pay £ 5 re ward.— Bow- street, August 9. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Remanded to H. M. Prison, at Devizes, till 13th instant, charged with obtaining Food, Lodging, and Money, by falsely representing that he was a detective from Birmingham, Moor- street Police Station, and gave the name of Detective Sergeant SHEPPARD about 25 years of age, C feet high, light hair, cut short, small light moustache, no whiskers, grey eyes, light complexion, tattooed on left arm, a ship, also marks of cuts on left wrist, tattooed on right arm, sailor aud woman dancing, flags, and crown ; dressed in dark mixture tweed cloth jacket, pockets on hips, dark brown mixture cloth vest, light mixture cloth trousers, brown necktie, hard bowler hat, white shirt, military boots, all much worn. Also found in his possession a discharge from the Depot Battery, C Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery, in the name of John Henry Parkinson, dated Aldershot, 26th Jan., 1880, he also gives the name of SAMUEL SHEPPARD, of Brackley, Northamptonshire. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Baldwin, Central Police Station, Devizes, Wiltshire.— Bow- street, August 11. THOMAS FERMOR, discharged from Borstal Convict Prison on licence, on 22ud June last, to the police district of Uckfield, Sussex, has left without notifying to the Police his intention of doing so :— he is 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 ins. higb, fresh complexion, blue eyes, squints with the left, brown hair, moderately stout, four moles oi the right side of neck, two vaccination marks on left arm, two scars on forefinger, and scar on chin. He was convicted at the Winchester Assizes on 3rd July, 1876 for felouiously causing grievous bodily harm, and sentenced to five y » ars penal servitude. Information to Mr. Supt. Failed to report:— THOMAS DAVIES, labourer, 24 years of age, 5 feet inches high, stout built, straight brown hair, brown eyes, broad face, scar on the right side of fore- head, small mole on the throat on the right side of neck, anchor on left arm, scar on right arm and wrist, and on left leg below the knee ; is a native of Lydbrook, Gloucesteishire ; convicted at Gloucester 20th March, 1867, for housebreaking, and sentenced to 1 month bard labour and 5 years to a reformatory ; 21st April, 1874, convicted at Littledean Petty Sessions for being on premises for an unlawful purpose, sentenced to 10 days hard labour ; 2nd July, 1879, convicted at Gloucester and sentenced to 6 months hard labour at Her Majesty's Prison, Gloucester, for stealing pigs. Served a training in the Monmouth militia, and left. when the regiment was diubanded, June 2tith, 1880.
