The substance of all Information* received in ease* 0f Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputeu Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Person* charged with Offences who art known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6490 FEIDAY, AUGUST 6, 1880. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. ## » Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to tho Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all lietters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and'Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, Bigned by t! ae persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the propeity, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London," PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" 110 longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found in the River Severn, near the Lower Lode, iu Tewkesbury, on 24th instant :— the body of a full- grown Female Child, without clothing, apparently 7 or 8 days old, and skull fractured in several places. At a Coroner's inquest, held 6- n 26th instant, the Jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' In conse- quence of the recent heavy floods the body may have come a great number of miles. Information to Sergeant Rose, Police Station, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, July 30. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on 2lst ult.:— a plain gold Keeper Ring, half an inch wide ; a pair of gold Sleeve Links, oval shape, bead border; and two Bramah dressing case Keys. Information to Head Constable Romanis, Margate, Kent.— Bow- street, August 6. Stolen from the person at Blackley Sports, about 0 30 p. m' 3lst ult.:— a silver lever Watch, silver flowered dial, gold hands, ' £ 3. 0. 0.' scratched inside of case with a pin, ' E. W.' marked on back of case, No. 7,126. Information to Mr. Supt. Bent, County Constabulary Office, Old Trafford, near Man- chester, or at the nearest Police Station.— Bow- st., August 6 Stolen from the person on 31st ult.:— a silver English Lever Watch, white dial, gold hands, maker ' Heywood, Rochdale- road, Manchester, No. 516.' Information to Mr. Supt. Bent, County Constabulary Office, Old Trafford, near Manchester, or at the nearest Police Station.— Bow- street, August 4. Stolen from the person in Preston, on 27th ultimo :— a silver English lever Watch, No. 57939, had attached a small link silver Albert Guard and long silver Key. Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 3. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of 4th iustant, the Rectory, at Bletchley and the dwelling- house of R. Selby Lowndes, Esquire, were burglariously entered and stolen therefrom: — 2 Half- Sovereigns and about £ 2 in Silver Money; a small Candle- stick ; a Tea- caddy; a Sugar Basin ; a pair of sugar- lifter Spoons, old fashioned; a Paper Knife ; a Flask ; 2 Salts ; 2 Salt Spoors; and a Mustard Spoon— all silver; a round Waiter, about 14 inches across, beaded edge; a pair of Can- dlesticks, queen Anne's pattern, octagonal stand ; 3 Tea Spoons, crest— Harpy, all silver. Supposed by two men who were seen near the premises on the evening of the robbery. One about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light whiskers, inclined to be saucy ; dressed in a dark coat, and cap with ear lappets tied up. The other about 35 years of age, 5 ft. 8 inches high, light tweed suit, b. ots worn down at heels, and old cloth cap. Supposed the same men who committed a burglary at Maids Moreton, Buckingham, on 2nd June last, and described in the Police Gazette of 7th June and following dates. Information to Mr. Supt Hedley, Police Office, Fenny Stratford, Buckinghamshire.— Bow- street, August 6. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 3rd instant, at Ports'ade, Sussex :— a gold Geneva Watch, maker Lee, Brighton ; a long gold snake pattern neck Chain, has a small Chain and Key, fox's head, attached ; a pair of Ear- rings and Brooch, shape of acorn ; a pair of plain gold Ear- rings ; a pair of Cornelian Ear- rings, spray pattern ; a gold keeper Ring, set with three blue stones ; a gold Ring, set with three red stones, buckle pattern; a small gold Ring, set with white pearls ; a gold Albert Chain, ridge links ; a gold Seal, dog and gun; a Seal with white stone, gold Key and Chain attached ; a gold Brooch, with man's likeness ; 6 silver Tea 8poons, marked ' W. Stolen by means of burglary, on the night of 19th ultimo, from the Rectory, Drewsteignton, Devon :— 2 £ 1000 Certificates, Manchester Real Property, Nos. 056, 057, Henry Whitworth, Secretary, 96, King- street, Manchester; 1 Life Policy, £ 2000, London Life Association, 81, King William- street, London. No. 16093, dated 15th July, 1870; 1 ditto, £ 1100, ditto, No. 20433. dated 31st March, 1878; 1 ditto, £ 2000, West of England, No. 29958, dated 2nd March, 1870 ; silver plate, viz.— I Tray, about 7 inches across; 2 Table Spoons 6 small Forks, all with crest— a lion ; 6 Dessert Spoons, three with crest— a lion, and three with crest— a mermaid ; 6 large Forks, crest— a mermaid ; 2 i- pint Mugs, marked ' R H. C.', and crest— a heron; 2 Sauce Ladles; 1 Sugar Lifter; 2 or 3 old Soup Spoons; 4 Salt Sptons; 2 Skewers ; 1 twisted pair of Sugar tonga ; 1 old Pepper Box ; 1 Tea Caddy, repousse work ; 1 Butter Knife ; 1 silver lever hunting Watch, maker, Mallett, Barnstaple, No. 1460, crest — a heron ; 3 £ 200 Portuguese 3 per cent. Bonds, Nos. 5708- 9- 10 ; 2 £ 200 New Zealand ' 68 Loan 5 per cent, consolidated, Nos. 2451- 2; 1 1000 New Zealand ' 70 ditto ditto, No. 1713. Supposed by 2 men, one about 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, grey hair and whiskers, chin shaved, no moustache ; dressed iu a black frock coat, small plaid trousers, hard round poll hat, wide brim, and elastic- side boots, carried a shiny black leather Bag. The other is about 21 years of age, 5 fee. t 8 inches high, fresh or fair complexion, very thin face, small dark whiskers, no moustache ; dressed in a dark suit of clothes, elastic- side boots, hard square poll hat, aud carried a light coloured bag, bound with yellow leather. Both carrying their bags on their backs like knap- sacks. Information to the Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter. — Bow- street, August 3. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Charged with stealing a Mare and Dog Cart ( recovered),- and a set of silver- mounted Harness ( not recovered), on 23rd ult. :— FREDERICK RILEY, alias ' FLASH FRED,' 22 to 24 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, rather slender, fresh complexion, brown hair cut short, no hair on face, very long neck, and smart appearance ; dressed in brown velvet sac jacket, light small plaid trousers, hard black felt hat; address 3, Ash Mount, Hickman- street, small Heath, Birmingham. Frequents music halls aud billiaid rooms, and is fond of being iu company of gay women. Information to the Chief Constable, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. Bow- street, August 6. The chestnut Cob and one set of Harness, described in Police Gazette of 24th May last as having been stolen from Eltham, Kent, and the Cart described in Police Gazette of 19th May last as stolen from Windleham, Surrey, have beeu recovered at Bristol. The Cart stolen from Eltham has beeu recovered in London. The property has been traced to the possession of JAMES LAMBOURNE aud GEORGE BARNETT, alias BARNARD, MATTHEWS, and GEORGE THE CLIPPER, described in Police Gazette of 26th ultimo, who have not been apprehended. The attention of all Police Officers is specially called to the description of these men, who are known as expert horsestealers. Several cases can be proved against them for stealing Horses, Carts, and Harness. They commit these offences by night by breaking open stable doors, then driving to a distant part of the country, where they dispose of the property. Lambourne associates with low dealers and gipsies, is a native of a villiage near Salisbury. Barnard is likely to apply for employment as fly driver aud as a horse clipper. Be is well known at Bristol and other West of England towns. Both men are supposed to have been at Bristol on 29th ultimo. £ 10 reward will be paid bv the Director, Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, for such information as will lead to the apprehension of these men.— Metropolitan Police, August 6. About noon on 30th ult., a man, having the appearauce of a groom or stable lad, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair, no whiskers, of thin statue ; dressed iu light suit with dark felt hat, and was wearing an Albert chaiu with coin attached ; rode a light bay 3- year- old thorough bred Mare, supposed stolen, into the fields near Wood Hall farm, Balsham, where he made her fast to a stile, left her and has not since returned ; the mare was ridden with a double reined single bit bridle, check saddle cloth, and striped girths, the saddle itself a small one has a chink near the pommel, and odd stirrup irons. Information to Mr. Supt. Long, Police Station, Linton, Cambs.— Bow- street, August 3. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged wiLh stealing £ 5 18s., and a calico Bag, on 27th ultimo FREDERICK SMITH, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium figure, fresh complexion, full eyes, light hair, inclined to curl, few straggling hairs on face, long neck, turns his toes iu when walking ; dressed in blue ribbed jacket, and vest, brown cord trousers, light quilted cloth billy hat, a labourer, native of Herefordshire, supposed near Malvern ; has lived at 15, Clarence- street, Wolverhampton, about 12 months. Information to the Chief Constable, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, August 6. Absconded from Dukinfield, Cheshire, on or about 5th March Last JOSEPH ROWBOTHAM, assistant overseer, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 iuches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, bushy beard and moustache, smart appearance, good address, and medium build. Charged on a warrant with obtaining by false pretenses from the overseers of Dukinfield, 2 Cheques, for the respective sums of £ 950 and £ 400 in Cash. Information to Mr. Supt. Cooper, Constabulary Office, Hyde, or to Chief Inspector Wood, Constabulary Office, Dukinfield, Cheshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 6. Absconded, charged with embezzling £ 180 at Harlestoa, on 28th ult. ;— JOHN PALMER, jun., Carleton Rode, dealer, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin sharp face, no beard or ruustache, slight whiskers down side fat quick talker, and horse dealer's appearance ; dressed well. Informa- tion to Inspector Mobbs, Holt, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 6. Stolen from Chichester Railway Station, a Portmanteau containiug an amethyst Brooch, gold edge cut; a pair of amethyst drop Ear- rings ; a silver gilt hand Bracelet ; a gold hand Bracelet, set with 3 amethysts ; a toilet scent Bottle, silver mounted; a cheque Book, of Chichester Bank, Portmanteau recovered. Supposed by a man about 22 years of age, rather short, slight made, fair complexion, slight moustache, no whiskers, sun burnt; dressed in dark coat, and black round felt hat. Also stolen ou 31st ultimo :— a gold Brooch, with the letters ' A. E. I.,' in centre. information to Head Constable Pratt, City Police, Chichester, Sussex.— Bow- st., August 6. Stolen at New Barn Farm, Steeple Barton, on 2nd inst. : — a single- breasted grey cloth Vest, pockets at sides with lappets, and small brown buttons. Obtained by false pre- tences, at the same time and place :— an American silver Lever Watch, engine- turned case, white dial, gold hour hands, no seconds, maker ' George Thompson, Darnfield, Sheffield, No. 16.' By a man, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, full f « ce, clean shaved ; dressed in short blue serge coat, worsted cord trousers, black hard felt hat, and military boots ( supposed to be wearing the stolen vest) ; stated be had been in the army, aud was a native of Man- chester, where his mother lived at an hotel near the barracks gate. Information to Inspector Wyatt, County Police Station, Deddington, Oxon.— Bow- street, August 6. Description of JOHN WILLIAMS, of Whitchurch, Salop, charged on warrant with felony :— 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 iuches high, sallow complexion, no whiskers, and dark hair ; dressed in old dark cloth clothes.' and old soft billy- cock hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Haines, Whitchurch, Salop, who holds the warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, August 4. Charged on warrant - with larceny, as bailee, of a silver Geneva Watch :— F. TAYLOR, alias RALPH PEARSE, goes about repairing and cleaning clocks and watches ; he is about 43 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 iuches high, sallow com- plexion, large teeth, wide apart and discoloured, long dark Dundreary whiskers, turning grey at roots, dark browu hair, grey on top of head, stoops very much when walking, and takes long strides ; generally carries his tools wrapped in a brown paper parcel; dressed in dark tweed suit, pockets outside, square- topped low- crowned hard felt hat ; has a pair of trousers with him of lighter material than the suit, which have been torn across one knee and roughly mended. Charged ou warrant with stealing £ 1 15s. 7jd. at Bear- park, oa 30th ultimo :- JAMES JOHNSON, alias SMITH, alias COLLINS, a coal miner, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, parted in the centre, stout figure, slightly bow- ltgged, boru at Whitehaven, and of Irish parents ; dressed in black coat aud vest, worsted cord trousers, ( coat has been torn and mended at the shoulder), elastic- side boots, buttons up the fronts, worn at toes, black velvet or dark cloth cap, aud walks erect. Information to Mr. Supt. Dunn, County Police Office, Durham.— Bow- st., August 4. Stolen at Neath, ou 23th ultimo :— an English silver lever Watch, No. 52865, with common Albert attached, large hand broken, value £ 6 10s. August 6 shorter than the other, and - who wear3 a cork shoe, a native of Tiverton, Devon. Information to Head Constable Phillips, Neath.— Bow- st., August 4. Stolen on 26th ultimo :— a double- breasted brown cloth Overcoat, brown velvet collar, dark twill lining, three pockets outside, and one inside left breast, trimmed with black cloth buttons, and made short; also a black ribbed cloth shooting Coat, three pockets outside, trimmed with dark coverec buttons, dark lining ; a pair of lace- up Boots, pegged, newly heeled, and toe caps, all man's size. By a man who lodged at the house from where the articles were stolen from, about 44 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 0 iuches high, light complexion and moustache, no whiskers, slender figure, has an old wound on cheek, caused by an abscess. Also stolen in Middlesbrough, on 30th ultimo about 80 yards of gros- grain Silk, with white and violet edges. By a woman, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, propor- tionate figure : dressed in a black dress, black hat, scarlet and black shawl, and carries an umbrella. Information to Chief Constable Saggerson, Central Police Office, Middlesbrough, Yorkshi- e.— Bow- street, August 4. The two men advertised in Police Gazette of 23rd ult., charged with stealing a pair of Boots at Beaconsfield, have been apprehended.— Bow- street, August 4. Stolen at Little Marlow, Bucks, on or about 26th ult. :— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, No. 32098, scratched on the inside near case joint 6- 77, gold Chain attached, has been broken and tied together with black thread; a silver fruit Knife ; a silver Locket containing photograph ; a gilt scarf Ring; a gold pencil Case, with inscription ' Presented to W. T. Bird, by the teachers of the Sunday School, Great Marlow.' Supposed by a tramping painter, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair, moustache inclined to be sandy, no whiskers, fresh complexion, full grey eyes, tattooed on both arms, ' Charles Turner' and figure of a sailor on one, and a mermaid on the other ; dressed in black diagonal cloth jacket, brown mixture trousers, patched with black Cloth on seat, hard felt hat, and lace- up boots. Infor- mation to Inspector Chaplin, Police Station, Great Marlow, Bucks.— Bonn- street, August 4. Charged with stealing on 31st ultimo, at Clewer, a pair of gentlemen's side- spring Boots; a shoemaker's Hammer ; a pair of Pincers ; a pair of half Soles ; aud a pair of Blucher Uppers : - a man 45 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, sandy hair and whiskers, pitted very much with small- pox, hands very sore on knuckles ; dressed in an old cloth jacket, no vest, dirty plaid trousers, and round felt hat, supposed wearing stolen boots; is well kuown in Manchester, Aldershot, and Banbury. Information to Mr. Supt. Blake, Berks Constabulary, Clewer.— Bow- street August 4. Stolen at Rhosigol Farm, Talysarnau, between 21st and 24th ultimo :— a home- made blue and grey mixture cloth Coat, man's size, little worn, brown horn buttons, pocket with flap on each side and one inside left bieast; in pocket two small card Books, with names ' Richard Evans, No. 11,' and ' Richard Edwards, No. 45.' as members of Talysarnau Odd Fellow's Society. Two men were seen on 26th ultimo with a similar coat in their possession, going towards Aberystwith and South Wales :•— one 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair, fresh complexion, and little or no whiskers ; dressed in old black cloth coat, mixture vest, cord trousers, and cap ; the other 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair cut very short, dark complexion, downcast look ; dressed in the stolen coat, linen jacket, and dirty dark trousers. Information to P. C. Griffiths, Penrhyndendraeth, Merionethshire.— Bow street, Augvst 4. Stolen, in Hitchin, on 27th ultimo :— a navy blue frock Coat, pocket3 outside with flaps; a pair of snuff- coloured Trousers, fly fronts ; a Waistcoat ; a pair of unbleached Sheets, feather stitched with red marking cotton, about 2 ins. in corners ; and 3 yards of Flannel, found pawned in Hitchin. By a man about 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, turning grey, round shouldered ; dressed in high black hat, dark coat, snuff- coloured trousers, Irish or foreign accent. Information to Inspector Young, Hitchin, Herts, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, August 3. hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Mayho, Constabulary Office, Oakmere, Northwich, Cheshire. Photograph will be for- warded on application.— Bow- street, Auguit 3. Committed to Cardiff Prison for 7 days for vagrancy, sentence expires 9th instant: — FREDK. GILES, 60 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather feeble, scar on centre of forehead, and a native of Chedzoy, Somerset. On being stripped, 3 grey Rugs and a coloured do. were found upon him, supposed stolen from tramp wards or police stations. Information to Deputy Governor Stevens, H. M. Prison, Cardiff, Glamorganshire,— Bow- street, August 6. waiatcoat and trousers, and side- spring boots. It is feared some ill has befallen him. Information to Mr. Supt. May, Witham, Essex.— Bow- street, August 3. Convicted at Lewes, on 28th ultimo, for robbing a till, and sentenced to 2 months hard labour :— JOHN HAYES, 29 years of age, 5 ft. li inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, proportionate figure, oval face, single, very hairy on chest, small blue spot on left elbow, scar on first right finger ; was born at Ryde, Isle of Wight, rag and bone dealer; dressed in dirty old dark clothes Information at the Chief Constable's Office, or to Mr. Supt. Osbon, Lewes, Sussex.— Bow- street, August 3. Remanded at Tunbridge Wells, charged with obtaining food, wine, and lodging, by falsely representing that she required apartments for her son, who was a captain, anl that she was the owner of 16 ships, and had an income of £ 1 10s. per day :— ADELAIDE EIBEL, was bom at Batavia, but lived in Dublin for years she is about 60 years of age, but lookB younger, about 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, stout figure, wears spectacles, and has a German accent; dressed in black cashmere dress, trimmed with black silk velvet, satin on the body, black crape cloth jacket, trimmed with satin on front and sleeves, with bugle fringe on cuffs, black 1. ce round bottom of jacket, black silk velvet borinet, with black feathers, and white cap border, black gossamer veil, high- low shoes, black knitted stockings, and a brown silk umbrella ; she arrives without luggage, and states she has lost it on her way, but that it will follow ; while at the lodgings she calls at house agents about buying a house, and speaks of having a £ 50 note which she wants to change. Information at the Police Office, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. — Bow- street August 3. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described.) Stolen from St. John's Church, Pilkington, during the night of 26th ultimo :— a white linen Table Cloth ; 2 strips of pew Carpet, 9 feet by 2 feet; 2 book Markers ; and 1 rug Cushion, magenta colour. A man who left Whitefield by 7' 20 a. m. train, on 27th ultimo, for Manchester, is suspected, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, sandy beard and moustache, slightly bow legged; dressed in dark shooting coat, light trousers, blue shirt or front, dark necktie, with pin in shape of a heart, and lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Supt, Milne, County Police Office, Bury, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Av/ iust 4. Missing from Maidstone, sinoe 2' Jth ultimo :— a military man, about 5 feet 9 inches hign, sallow complexion, ai* d blood shot eyes ; dressed in brown morning suit ; he is in ill health, and supposed to be- insane, and it is feared that some ill has befallen him. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police Office, Maidstone.— Bow- street, August 6. Escaped from H. M.
