JlOtlce.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POllCE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and « f Absentees and^ Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for tho return of the propeity, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " Tlie Editor, Bow Street, London." Found in the River Severn, near the Lower Lode, in Tewkesbury, on 24th instant;— the body of a full- grown Female Child, without clothing, apparently 7 or 8 days old, and skull fractured in several places. At a Coroner's inquest, held vn 26th instant, the Jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' In conse- quence of the recent heavy floods the body may have come a greit number of miles. Information to Sergeant Rose, Police Station, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, July 30. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on 23rd instant :— a double- case silver lever Watch, maker Bullock, Chippenham, and a silver Chain attached, curb pattern; also a Razor, in case, black handle, and has a notch in the centre of blade ; and a meerschaum Pipe in case, straight stem, silver mounted. Stolen from the person at Pontefract Races, on 22nd inst. : — a gold Albert watch Guard, curb pattern, marked ' 9- carat' on each link, heavy, and a Spade Ace Guinea attached. In- formation to Chief Constable Fearnside, Town Hall, Ponte- fract, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 26. Stolen from the person, on the Sunday School Centenary Celebration in Nottingham, on 22nd instant:— A gold lever Watch, No. 11579, maker Wm. Rose, Gorhill A silver Ditto No. 19927 or 19972, Hunter- maker, Simpson, Hertford. A ditto Ditto No. 4523—' 1128' scratched in outer case, maker Hathers. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from Oakland Villa, Llandinabo, near Ross, at 3 p. m., 27th instant:— 3 small silver Tea Spoons, worn very thin, marked ' H.' or ' W. H.'; 8 silver- plated Prongs, ' R.'; 3 large ditto Tea Spoons ; 1 silver Butter Knife, with ivory handle ; 1 silver- plated ditto ; 2 silver Salt Spoons, 1 Mustard ditto, 1 Dessert ditto ; 3 plated Dessert Spoons, ' M.'; 2 large ditto Table Spoons ; 1 large silver Table Spoon, ornamental handle, ' S. II. A.' By two men, like tramping tailors : one from 36 to 40 years of age, 5| feet 9 or 10 inches high, slight make, dark hair and whiskers, and dirty appearance ; dressed in a long black frock coat, dark trousers, very old boots, black felt hat, and no shirt on ; the other is from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout build, brown hair, light sandy whiskers on cheeks ; dressed in dark grey or brown coat, hard black hat, and old boots. They were traced to near Gloucester on 28th inst. Information to Mr. Supt. Smith, Police Station, Ross, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, July 30. The whole of the property reported in Police Gazette 26th instant, as stolen by means of burglary, from the Clock Inn, Birkenhill, has been recovered, and a well known thief named HENRY SYLVESTER, alias KEATLEY, committed for trial at ensuing Assizes, on the charge :— he is about 48 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and long beard, and slightly pockpitted He was convicted at Midsummer Sessions 1879, at Warwick, for housebreaking, and sentenced to 9 months imprisonment, has been in the army. Information to Mr. Supt. Yardley, Solihill, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, July 30. Stolen at Ryarsh, Kent, during the night of 24th instant, by means of housebreaking :— a £ 20 Bank of England Note ; four large silver table Spoons, initials ' J. E. F.' on two of them, ' J. F.' or the remainder; eight ditto dessert Spoons, marked ' G.'; a Ditto; four tea Spoons, three silver, the other plated; two silver salt ditto, marked ' J. E. F.'; a mustard ditto, marked ' J. E. F.'; two Tops of pepperboxes, silver ; eight large plated silver Forks; eight small ditto Ditto; four plated salt Cellars ; two plated sugar- Basins; one plated sugar Tongs; a plated cream Jug ; a pair of gentleman's gold Spectacles; a pocket Comb ; a mahogany Workbox ; a pruning Knife ; about 30s. in Money ; aud two Cheques, one for £- 22 12s 8d., dated 9th July, 1880, the other for £ 29, dated 23rd July, 1880, both cheques are crossed aud made payable to J. Fremlin, to order, first on the London Joint Stock Branch Company, Boro', Loudon, the other on the London and County Bank, Covent Garden Branch, London. Information to Mr. Supt. Hulse, Kent County- Constabulary, West Malling.— Bow- sireet, July 28. chin, dark brown coat, black round hat, is sharp looking. A tall man aud a little woman with several flash rings driving a chestnut pony and cart, and a tall man with big black horse and strong cart, all strangers, were also seen in the neighbour- hood and are suspected, A reward of £ 25 will be paid to any person or persons who shall give such information and evidence as shall cause the conviction of the offenders. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Benson, Newmarket.— Bow- street. July 28. Description of a man, wanted on two charges of burglaiy at Hulme, near Longton, on the night of 18ih inst. :— 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, slender build, burn mark under right eyebrow, native of Cheadle, Staffordshire; dressed in old black hard tommy hat, old grey overcoat, which is too large for him ; l. e had also in his possession, when he absconded, an old grey overcoat to fit a boy about 12 years of age, two cuts across the left breast, this is part of the proceeds of the burglary. Information to Mr. Supt. McWilliams, Police Office, Longtcn, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 28. Stolen, by means of burglary, between 11 p. m. 24th and 6 a. m. 25th instaut, from Bosbury, Herefoid, about 12s. worth of Coppers with several Farthings. Tramps are suspected. Information to Mr. Supt. Bluusdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, July 28. Between 12 30 aud 3 a. m. 25th instant, a dwelling- house at Blackpool was entered, and stolen therefrom :— a lady's old English lever gold Watch, embossed cases and gold flowered dial, No. 5861 ; a double- cased Old English silver rack lever Watch, without the outer case, No. 3552 ; a common silver Geneva Watch ; half of a set of false Teeth, not complete, set in gold ; a dark brown leather Purse, con- taining a Sovereign, 2 half Sovereigns, and about 10s. in Silver and Coppers. Information to the Superintendent, County Police, Kirkham, Lancashire.— Bow- st., July 28. Stolen during the night of 22nd instant, from a house at Wood Ditton, near Newmarket, by means of burglary :— a Tankard ( plain) ; a Ditto, with horse engraved thereon ; a Ditto, marked ' R. G.'; 2 pint Mugs ( plain); 3 half- pint Mugs ( do.) ; a quarter pint Do. ( do.) ; 2 wiue Strainers; a cream Jug; a Tea- pot, marked ' J. G.'; a Do. Stand, marked ' J. G.' ; a castor Stand; 2 fancy Spoons, grape shape ; a Fij. li Knife; a Soup Ladle; a Do., handsome pattern; a Butter- boat, small; a Gravy Spoon ; a pair of Snuffers ; all old- fashioned. The following are modern :— a small Salver ; a Fish Knife and Fork in case ; a pair asparagus Tongs ; a large ( cake) Knife; a pair Ladles, queen's pattern; 6 Tea Spoons, do. ; 20 Table Spoons, do. ; 9 Dessert Spoons, do. ; 12 do. Knives and Forks ; a Tartlet Knife ; 4 pairs Nut- crackers. Three men, strangers, are suspected ; they were seen about the place, and are each between 30 and 40 years ot age :— one about 5 feet 7 inches high, pitted with smallpox, no whiskers, and fair or sandy complexion ; dressed in blue or dark jacket, and round black hat ; second, about the same height, dark complexion, hollow cheeks and shaved, hair under chin ; had a peculiar appearance ; dressed in dark ; third, short and thick set with heavy brown moustache, clean Between 10 p. m., on 25th, and 7 a. m., 26th instant, a dwelling house at Lockers Park, Hemel Hempstead, was entered, and a small handsome carriage Clock stolen ; also about 5s. in Coppers, from a small papiermache box. Also during the same hours, a dwelling- house at Heath Lodge, Hemel Hempstead, was broken into, and an old dark blue Mackintosh, much worn, stolen therein. Information to Inspector Chapman, Hemel Hempstead, Herts. — Bow- street, July 28. During the night of 23rd or morning of 24th instant, the Post Office at Harlow was broken and entered and stolen therein :—£ 1 18s. worth of Penny Postage Stamps, 3s. worth of Halfpenny Postage Stamps, Is. worth of lid. Stamps, 4s. 6d. worth of 2i< l. Stamps, 5s. 4d. worth of 8d. Stamps, 7s. worth of Receipt Stamps, £ 1 9s. in Money, several Clasp Knives, and aluminum Pencil Cases. Information to Mr. Supt. Simpson, Epping ; to Inspector Odam, Harlow ; or to Inspector Robinson, Constabulary Office, Chipping Ongar, Essex,— Eon- street, July 26. Stolen in Stalybridge on 22nd instant:— a pail of man's lace- up Boots, partly worn ; a blue and white check cotton Shirt; a woollen ditto, vai ious colours ; a pair of man's Socks, a pair of man's grey hand- knitted Stockings, a blue and white striped Muffler ; a black aud white ditto ; and 37s. in Silver. By JAMES JOBSON, a tramping piano player, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, and sandy hair and whiskers; dressed in shabby black cloth clothes and cloth cap. Will be seeking work at public- house singing rooms. Information to the Chief Constable, Stalybridge, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st,, July 26. During the night of 21st iustant, a lock- up shop iu Mill- street, Congleton, was entered, and stolen therein :— 13F yards of black corded dress Silk, good quality, coloured edges ; 1 man's Shetland merino uuder Vest ; 3 pairs of hand knit worsted Stockings, colours navy blue, blue grey, aud Shetland ; 2 black and white silk Windsor Ties, cut on the cross ; 2 pairs of men's lace Boots ; several pairs of women's side- spring Boots; and a lot of cheap Brooches, various patterns. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such informa- tion as will lead to the recovery of the property, and the apprehension of the offender or offenders. Information to Chief Constable Hall, Congleton, Cheshire.— Bow- st., July 26. Stolen by means of burglary, at Bury- lane, Epping, on 21st or 22nd instant:— about £ l worth of penny postage and receipt Stamps ; a cut glass scent Bottle, silver- mounted, ' J. S.' in Old English on one end; also a silk Umbrella. Information to Mr. Supt. Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Robinson, Constabulary Office, Chipping Ongar, Essex.— Bow- street, July 26. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Charged with Horse stealing :— JAMES MITCHELL, alias YANKEE, an hostler, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark com- plexion, thin face, black hair, no whiskers or moustache, aud slender build; dreised in tight- fitting dark tweed trousers, black jacket and vest, and an eight- pieced cap. FREDK. JOLLY, alias JAMES HUTCHESON, cabman, 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, swarthy complexion, brown hair, no whiskers, may have slight moustache, and large nose ; dressed in light tweed suit, faded velvet collar on coat, and round felt hat. And ALEXANDER SCOUGALL, a groom or stable- man, about 30 yrs. of age, 5 ft. 9 or 10 ius. high, swarthy com- plexion, dark hair, no whiskers, may have slight moustache, ar. d pockpitted ; dressed in light or yellow corded trousers, tweed vest with dark sleeves, and an eight- pieced cap. Information to the Chief Constable, Dumfries, who holds a warrant for tneir apprehension.— Bow- stree', July 30. Found at Bromley, Hurst, on 21st instant, and now in the possession of Mr. Parton:— 2 Heifers, both iu nrlk, one red, and the other a roan col: ur, both ate very sore footed, and appear to have travelled a long way on the road, both are in good condition. Information to Inspector Barrett, Town Hall, Rugeley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 28. Stolen from a field at Harborne, during the night of 25th instant:— a black Mare, aged, 15J t ands high, white star on July 30 forehead. rather thick hocks, in good condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Whitehurst, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, or Sergeant Kavanagh, Harbourne, near. Birmingham..— Bow- street. July 23. Description of HENRY HARRIS, alias BLONDIN, committed for trial to the next Assizes at Norwich, charged with stealing a Horse and Cart:— 25 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, dark brown hair and eyes, black whiskers, moustache shaved off, oval visage, slight build, scar on left wrist from a severe cut; born irr Canada West. States he was in 74th Highlanders, and invalided from Netley Hospital on 17th March, 1878. Information to the Chief Constable. Guildhall, Norwich.— Bow- st., July 28. Stolen from a field in Stalybridge, late on night of 20th, or early on morning of 2lst instant :— a grey cart Horse, aged, 16 hands high, in good condition, has a cut mark or scar on right buttock. Information to Chief Constable Chadwick, Stalybridge.— Bow- street, July 26. The two Horses reported as stolen from Greets Green, West Bromwich, on 12th instant, have been found strayed, and returned to owner.— Bo •'- street, July 26. Remanded at Cannock, till 26th instant, charged with stealing a Pony ( recovered) JOSEPH POWELL, a groom, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, rather stout build, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, and slight whiskers, grey eyes, full face, scar m left cheek; dressed in dark grey mixture cloth giuf, black hard felt hat, and elastic- side boots ; he is a native of Staunton- on- Harrow, Herefordshire, and has lived at Birmingham. Information to Mr. Supt. Hockney, Brownhills, Walsall, or to Sergeant Cockerell, Cannock, near Stafford.— Bow- st., July 26. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged with stealing £ 43 on 19th instant:— ROBT. HERBERT HEATLEY, 16 years of age, 5 feet high, light complexion, brown hair, and rather long features; dressed in a dark suit, cheesecutter cap, and lace- up boots. HENRY CLARKE, alias JAMES CREGEEN, 15 yrs. of age, 4 ft. 10 inches high, dark swarthy complexion, dark rough hair, cut. short, thumb of right hand recently crushed, and lost some front teeth; dressed in a brown jacket, dark trousers and vest, and Scotch cap. Grandfather— Robert Shimmin, rope maker, St. German's- place, Peel, Isle of Man. And EDWARD PARSONAGE, 1G years of age, 5 feet high, light complexion, brown hair, and very long features ; dressed in a dark suit and cheesecutter cap. All three have been employed iu a rope manufactory. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Williams, Detective Depart- ment, Liverpool.— Bow- street, July 30. Stolen between 6 30 p. m. on 26th, and 4 p. m. on 27th instant, at Glazedale :— a brown velvet Jacket, t < vo pockets inside laps, one inside brrast, two outside with flaps, three black buttons ( one smaller than the others) down front, sewing given way oil shoulder and inside laps, lined with red striped lining ; and a pair cotton cord Trousers, small patch on oue knee, trimmed with white bone buttons, one brass button on back. A man was seen near the house at 7 p. m. on 26th instaut and is suspected : about 30 years of age, rather short, fair complexion, light whiskers and moustache, slender figure ; dressed iu dark coat, cord trousers, and dark cap; eariied a small bundle tied up in a red handkerchief. Information to Mr. Supt. Ryder, N. R. Constabulary, Whitby. — Bow stnet, July 30. Stolen at. Bootle, on 26th instant:— 2 large silver Goblets — lst, plain, with a few scrolls and inscription—' Presented by the Life Members of the 80th L. R. G.'; 2nd, frosted and embossed with inscription — ' Mark man's Prize, Liverpool Pres3 Guards'; a small silver drinking Cup, vine pattern, snake handle, and initials—' J . B. R.'; a plain silver Cup, with cut lines round it, and initials—' E. C. W.' ; and a silver Sugar Sifter, bead pattern on handle, with initials—' E. C. R.' By a man who was seen leaving the house with the property in his possession, from 30 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ins. high, very fresh complexion, no beard or whiskers, and stout build ; dressed in greyish trousers, dark coat, and soft high- crowned billycock hat. A reward of £ 5 will be paid by S. Walsh, Superintendent of Police, Bootle, to any person who gives information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the offender and recovery of the property. Information to Mr. Supt Walsh, County Police Office, Bootle, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 30. Charged with embezzling, at Durham, £ 39 6s. 3d., • warrant issued :— JOHN PATRICK. 23 years of age, 5 ft. 10 inches lrrgh, slender build, leans his head forward, fair complexion, slight light whiskers and moustache, hair a little darker, smart appearance, and has a slow way of speaking ; generally dressed in grey mixed tweed suit, low shoes, black round felt hat, and is fond of billiards ; a native of Durham, and was employed as a clerk. Information to Chief Con- stable Duns, City Policc, Claypath, Durham.— Bow- street, July 30. Charged with embezzling £ 159 5s., mostly gold, warrant issued :— RICHARD HORNE, a clerk, 27 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stoutish build, dark com- plexion, dark hair and moustache, whiskers down sides of face, shaved out at chin, which always looks dirty after shav- ing, leans slightly forward when walking, and has a shuffling gait; dressed when last seen in a dark tweed cloth suit of clothes, much worn, trousers out at seat and knees, and hard high black felt hat with ventilator at top, generally wears lace boots, with heavy thick soles, is very fond of smoking, and uses a short cutty pipe, a native of Scotland, and much addicted to drink ; may be accompanied by a young man, named John Campbell, about 22 years of age, 6 feet high, slender build, sandy hair and moustache, inclined to reddish, whiskers all round face ; dressed in Californian coloured suit of clothes, faded, and black felt hat. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the accused, on application to Messrs Bell and Adamson, corn merchants, or to the Chief Constable, City Police Office, Durham.— Bow- street, July 30. Charged on warrant with larceny as a bailee of 9 step Ladders ou 20th instant :— CHAS. BOOTH, a hawker, late of Chancery- lane, Longton, 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 ins. high, light complexion, brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, medium build ; native of Longton; has with him his wife and child about 2J years old ; dressed in black soft billycock hat, long brown overcoat, brown cord trousers, and lace- up boots. Had iu his possession a hawker's licence granted at Warrington, Lancashire, on 24th October, 1879. Information to Mr. supt. McWilliams, Police Office, Longton, who holds a wairant for his apprehension.— Bow- street July 30. Charged upon a warrant with stealing £ 3 7s.:— JAMES JONES, late of Soutlr- street, Saint Leonard's- on- Sea, 26 yrs. of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, dark curly hair, a few dark whiskers at side of face, no moustache, and well built; dressed in high black hat, light mixture coat and vest, dark mixture trouatsw", aud lace- up boots; a waggonnette conductor or stableman. Charged upon a warrant with stealing £ 12:— MARY WARD, lite of 31, Bohemia- place, Hastings, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark complexion, hair and eyeR, very much sunburnt; dressed in red skirt with black body, short blackcloth jacket, and black bonnet, all very shabby, or may be wearing a black shawl ; she has a male child about 15 months old; her husband is a labourer and sometimes hawks fish. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Glenister, Hastings.— Bow- street, July 30.
