The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It ia requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of • the person requiring or sending tlio same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is giren, it is indispensibly necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to tho Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor jmnst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not bo made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and - ® f Absentees and^ Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to tho Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They Bhould be Bigned or accompanied by a letter, signod by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette " no longer necessary. BREAKING INTO CHURCHES, RECTORIES, & c. The numerous cases which have recently occurred in the Home Counties of these offences, necessitate the utmost co- operation in bringing the delinquents to justice. The Metropolitan Police have been instructed to make sush special arrangements as are possible in suburban districts, and to communicate with Vergers and Pew Openers particularly of churches open during the day. It is believed that a man is connected with the offences who attends in the first instance as a member among the congregation. He is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, full face, clean shaved; dressed in black frock coat, hard felt hat. Description of JAMES ROCKET GILLINGHAM, of Marshwood, charged on a warrant with falsifying the account books to his employers :— he is about 34 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, good figure, dark hair and whiskers, fresh complexion, smart appearance ; was a ganger on the London and South Western Railway about 7 years since. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt, MacHale, Dorset Constabulary, Beaminster. — Bow- street, July 7. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Charged with assaulting and robbing Joseph Goodacre while at plough in a field, at Northorpe, near Bourn, at 2.30, on 6th instant:— 1 Shilling, a Pocket Knife with two blades and buckhorn handle, and two common watch Keys. By two men— first, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in dark coat and trousers, and dark low hat. 2nd, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in short • blue slop, light trousers, dark low hat, hair cut short, and no whiskers. Both are of dirty appearance. Information to Mr. Supt. Brown, County Police Station, Bourn, Lincolnshire. — Bow- street, July 9. Stolen from the person in Brighton, on 5th instant: a gold English lever stop Watch, centre seconds, No. 12830. information to Chief Constable Barnden, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, July 9. Stolen from the person at Boston Horse Show, on 6th instant:— a silver lever Watch, white dial, black figures, had ' Dale End, Birmingham,' near makers name, it had attached a gold Albert, chain pattern, and Pendant with stone, red one side, green the Other. Information to Head Constable Bellamy, Boston, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, July 9. Absconded from Abertillery, on 29 th ultimo, charged ander a warrant, with highway robbery with violence, stealing an open- faced Canadian gold Watch, No. 47555, engraved on inside case ' Patent lever, full jewelled,' engraved on inside outer case ' Warranted gold,' the Watch is broken ; a gold Albert Chain, link and curb pattern, ' Canadian gold' stamped on cross bar ; also a Purse containing 2 Sovereigns, and 2 Half- sovereigns ; and a silk Handkerchief :— WILLIAM WILLIAMS,| alias ISAAC WILLIAMS, a tailor or labourer, a Welshman, but speaks English correctly, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather slight made, fresh complexion, dark hair, little dark hair at side of face, and small dark moustache, has a cast in one eye, supposed the left, and high cheek bones ; dressed in grey cloth coat, or dark frock coat, dark vest and trousers, black felt hat, and supposed Oxford shoes, has been a soldier, and was discharged about 12 months ago, from the 24th Regiment of Foot; he is a small active young man, has a habit of putting his hand to his eye when talking, generally wears p. belt ai ound his waist to keep his trousers up ; it is probable he will join the Army. Police Officers in charge of recruiting districts are earnestly solicited to make inquiries for this mau. £ 1 reward will be paid for his apprehension, on application to Sergeant Williams, Mon- mouth Constabulary, Blaiua, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 9. Stolen from the person at Trinity Street Rail way Station, Bolton, about 8 p. m. on 3rd instant:— a leather Purse with elastic band, containing frcm £ 3 to £ 5 in Gold, a Piece Of Silver, and two Keys. By a woman about 40 years of age, middle height, dark complexion, full features, stout build, pale face, and rough looking; dressed in black shawl and dress, dark straw flat bonnet, with green flower in front. C.' on back; a gold Albert, 15- carat, curb pattern : plain gold Locket attached, with bar down back and front, photo of a lady inside. Fread, Kent County Constabulary, Dartford— Bow- street, July 7, t Description of JAMES LEASK, alias SCOTCH JIM, I charged with stealing by means of housebreaking, at Meole Brace, a silver Watch, imitation American, Waitham, No- supposed 8685, steel curb fob Chain, with common Key attached, with name ' Davies, Shrewsbury ':— 23 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light hair, fresh complexion, blue eyes, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark jacket, old and patched, grey vest, with silver plated livery buttons thereon, moleskin trousers, dark rough cap, coloured shirt, neckerchief white ground with dark spots, usually worn tied in sailors knot; has the appearance of a bricklayer's labourer, has been used to going with horses, stated he had worked for the Corporation of Manchester, as cart driver ; talks with a broad accent, has recently worked for farmers. Stolen by means of shop- breaking, at Middlesborough, between 3rd and 5th instant :— about 48 yards of black corded Silk, good quality, one edge red, and the other white and blue striped ; about 95 yards of black corded Silk, medium quality, edge narrow white stripe, with a wide red one ; 52 yards of black corded Silk, ordinary quality ; 42 yards do. poor quality; a number of silk Pocket- handkerchiefs, of various colours ; 6 plated Table- spoons ; and 4 Dessert- spoons, of good quality. During the night of 5th instant, the Boat Inn, Stone, was broken into, and stolen therein :— two gallons of Brandy; two gallons of Rum ; and about one gallon of Whiskey, each was in a two gallon stone jar with wicker work round, and ' James Glover, Spirit Merchant, Longton,' printed thereon, the rum and brandy jars were both sealed, and had never been opened, and that containing the whiskey was about half full. Stolen by means of burglary, at Maidenhead, between 12 30 an- 6a. m. on 3rd instant:— 1 gilt Clock with an Artist painting represented thereon ; 1 gilt Clock, with female figure on top; 1 nickel silver Teapot ; 1 Sewing Machine; 1 musical Box ; 6 silver dessert Spoons, plain pattern; 6 silver dessert Spoons, fhldle pattern; 8 German silver Teaspoons ; 2 pairs of men's Boots ; 2 pairs children's Boots, button kid ; a number of gardener's Knives, Scissors, & c.; 1 white twill Mackintosh ; 1 black and white single- breasted Jacket, pockets on hip; 1 very old brown cloth Overcoat, with business cards in pocket, ' J. Burdett, Nursery- man, & c.' By 3 men, two of whom are in custody and remanded till 12th instant: one GEORGE EDWARDS, engineer, Ipswich, 45 years of age, 5 feet 5f inches high without boots, bald place on crown of head, hair, whiskers, and moustache brown, turning grey, long tliiu features, grey eyes, toe nail left big toe deformed ; dressed in high hat, dark coloured trousers and vest, bine cloth pilot overcoat, velvet collar. The other HARRY HANSELL, engineer, Pershore- street, Birmingham, 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaved on chin, blue or grey eyes ; dressed in hard felt hat, double- breasted black cloth frock coat and vest, tweed trousers with narrow stripe running from top to bottom, low Oxford shoes, 5 scars in circle round the nipple of left breast, having the appearance of scars from burns, vaccination marks on arms. The third still at large, about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 11 inches high, fair hair and moustache, roman nose, marks of small- pox, round shouldered ; wearing stolen mackintosh and jacket. Can be identified. Supposed to have taken train from Slough to London. Information to Mr Supt. Austin, Maidenhead, Berks.— Bow- st., July 7. During the night of 30th ultimo, Wadley. House, Faringdon, was entered and stolen therein :— 2 Trays, a round and an oval, silver, crest— a griffin ; a pair of Candle slicks, silver; an oval flower Vage, fluted, a Top of a Mustard Tot, 5 Tea Spoons, a 3ugar Sifter, a Mustard Spoon, a Coffee Pot, a Tea Pot ( plain), a Tea Pot ( embossed), a Salt Cellar and Spoon, all silver and marked with crest of a griffin ; between £ 7 and £ 8, including a £ 5 Burford Bank Note, joined, red cross on join, endorsed ' J. A, Davis,' on back ; ( Note very dirty) ; a gold oval engraved Locket, with initial ' T. B.' engraved thereon. Information to Mr. Supt. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen on the night of 4th instant, at Kentchurch : half- bred black Mare, 14 hands high, in good condition, long mane and tail, white spot on forehead, a few white hairs on back, just behind where saddle would come, quiet to ride and iu gear. Supposed to be taken to work iu coal mines. Infor- mation to Deputy Chief Constable Cope, County Police Station, Hereford, or to P. S. Phillips, Abbey Dore, near Hereford..- - Bow- street, July 9. During the night of 7th instant, a Sheep was slaughtered in a field, near Rushall Hall, the skin, head, and entrails were left iu the field, and the carcase was taken away. _ Any person giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders shall, on such conviction, receive £ 2 reward. Stolen at East Wellow, near Romsey, Hants, on the night of 28th ultimo;— ail aged chestnut Mare, about 14 hands high, light mane aud tail, white face, white hind legs, lame on hind legs from spavins. Information to Mr. Supt, Kellaway, Hants Constabulary, Romsey.— Boi,-- street, July 5, Charged with stealing a Horse ( recovered), from a field at Acton Grange, duritig the night of 25th, or moriing of 26th ultimo :— a man, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 iii3. high, dark complexion, dark hair and whiskers, the latter very slight, and medium build ; dressed in blue pilot jacket and trousers, black soft billycock hat, a coloured neckerchief, tied iu a sailor's knot. Supposed stolen during the night of 25th ultimo, from a field at Street Issa, near Ruabon :— a dark grey Filly, 1 year old, small white star on forehead, long tail, three black legs, off hind leg light coloured, with scar on inside bet * een hock and fetlock joint, in fair condition, not shod. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Wilde, Wrexham, Denbighshire, or to Sergeant Hughes, Ruabon.— Bow- street, July 5. insurance agent, in the name of Armstrong, till a few days ago, when he absconded. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Checketts, County Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, July 7. Stolen from the ' Sun' hotel, Higli- street, Southampton, about 10 p. m., lst instant :— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, with gold face ; a long curb pattern gold Chain attached ; a collar Stud, set with diamonds, star pattern; a small gold Locket; a Spade Guinea ; a plain gold Ring, much worn ; a set of coral Solitaires aud Studs ; a set of plain gold Studs ; two black enamelled Studs ; a silver spring scarf Ring ; a gold Locket, with ivy leaf on one side, and containing the photo, of a gentleman ; and a Purse, with about 9s. in Silver. By 3 men, one about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark moustache, hair turning grey; wearing long dark grey coat., light trousers, and high white hat. Another about 38 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, light moustache, and whiskers side of face, hair turning grey ; wearing grey clothes, and hard black felt hat. The oilier about 28 years of age, feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, slight beard and moustache; wearing brown tweed clothes, and round hard black felt hat.. Information to Head Constable Breary, Southampton, Hants.— Bow- street, July 5. in dark coat buttoned at top, blue flannel slop, dark cord or fustian trousers, bid half boots, much worn, black soft hat, and general appearance dirty. Accompanied by his wife', Esther Ann, 30 years of age, a hawker, carries a basket with swag, and has a certificate, black hair, large face and stout - r dressed in brown dress, grey striped shawl, and black bound. They are both of drunken habits, generally stop at low lodg- ing- houses or iu outbuildings ; was at Malvern, Worcester- shire, on lst instant. Information to the Police Serjeant,, Abbey Dore, near Heieford.— Baa- street, July 9. Absconded on 27th ultimo, from Glastonbury, charged with obtaining by false pretences, a Cow, 5 Pigs, an Ass, Mare, and Colt :— ALFRED CHARLES BAKER, of Kingston Seymour, about 33 years of age, about 5 feet 9 ins. high, medium built, light brown hair and moustache, no whiskers, fair complexion, has lately received injury to left leg ; when last seen was dressei in dark coat, brown mixture cloth vest and trousers, black billycock hat. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Bisgood, Somerset Constabulary, Glastonbury.— " Bow- street, July 5. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged with Fowl stealing:— JOSEPH GIBSON, a native of Highgate Common, near Enville, Staffordshire, 29 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, smart build, light hair, small light whiskers, and has lo3t the sight of one ( left) eye ; dressed in cord trousers, white slop, over which he wears a dark coloured jacket, and black billycock hat; is frequently employed bark peeling and timber felling. Information to Inspector Gilbride, Tettenhall, Staffordshire, who holds a warraut for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 9. Absconded ou 8th ultimo, charged with embezzling £ 8 12s. Id. :- DAVID EDWARD PRICE, station master, native of Rhayader, Radnorshire., about 36 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, full face, high forehead, light brown hair, slight light whiskers and moustache, shaves oil chin, front teeth ' upper jaw projecting, a little stout, well built, well educated, and of gentlemanly appearance ; dressed in a light coloured suit of tweed, hard felt hat, and low shoes. A warrant has been issued for bis apprehension. Information to Mr. Supt. Bate, Carmarthen.— Bow- streei, July 7. Absconded from Luton, on 3rd instant, charged on a warrant with stealing a silver Watch:— HENRY BENNESSE, a watch cleaner, about 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, black hair and mous- tache, grey patch of hair ou light side of head, 110 whiskers; dressed' in hard felt hat, blue necktie, dark coat and vest, grey trousers, and spring- side boots. Information to Head Constable Jaquest, Borough Police Office, Luton, Beds.— Bow- st., July 7. Stolen, at Buidwas, between lst and 3rd instant:— a pair of man's elastic- side Boots, No. 7 size, toacappeel, and in fair condition. Supposed by a mau who had been lodgiug in the house and left* on 2nd instant, about 45 or 50 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, hair and whiskers turning grey; dressed iu an old blue pilot cloth overcoat, and light ducking slop and trousers, old elastic- side boots, and billycock hat ; a native of Surrey or Kent, and travels about the country, sometimes working at mills as a mill- atone dresser.
