CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marlcs of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6470 MONDAY, JUNE 21, 1880. Riotiee.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear tlie Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be mado and addressed to tho Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. ' Whcnovcr it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is gircn, it is indispensably necessary that an information should he mado and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested- copy tlioreof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for tho insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clcarly:—( 1) The amount of tie reward. ( 2) Tho conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding tbom. They should contain no expressions holding out any ixpectation of reward for the return cf tho property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or otheri wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PUIS ON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. In Glenluce, Wigtown, on the morning of 1st instant, Janes Milligan, innkeeper there, was murdered, and his housekeeper, Grace McCredie, was injured to the danger of her life by some person or persons at present unknown. There were carried away from the premises— a gold patent .' ever Watch, No. 21545, aud gold Chain, in three pieces, and the person or persons suspected are believed to have in their possession a Hand Saw, a Jack Plane, and a Hammer. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the discovery of the person or persons who committed the above crimes iLformatioir to Chief Constable Murphy, Wigtown, N. B.; or to Mr. Supt. McNeil, Stranraer, N. B.— Bow- street, June 18. On 7tlr instant, the dead body of a female child was found in the Birmingham Canal, near Spon- lane, West Bromwich, • where it appeared to have been for about a week, with marks cf having been strangled with a cord before being placed in the water, and a Coroner's Jury having returned a verdict of • Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown,' a a reward of £ 50 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person other than a police officer who shall give such information and evidence, as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the Grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. The child is from 2 to 3 months old, full features, dark brown hair, inclined to be curly ; dressed in an ordinary shirt, a cotton band, a linen napkin, a long grey flannel petticoat, with a herring- boned hem round the bottom, and an ordinary calico night gown, all fastened with pins, and in good condition. Charged on warrant with forgery :— JOHN CROSS WEBB about 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather stout stoops, and leans slightly to one side, long shaggy eye- brows mole on end of nose, wears a still short beard, and . moustache turning grey, and of respectable appearance. He absconded about the end of February last, and was previously in business as a manufacturer of Japan and tin goods, at Bank View Works, Hyde Road, West Gorton, near Manchester, and resided in Richmond Grove, Stockport Road, Manchester, his - vrife is now supposed to be residing at Leamington. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by Messrs Orford and Milne, Solicitors, # 7 Fountain Street, Manchester, for such information as will Wd to his arrest, if effected within 3 months from this date, & OBBSRY A « D LARCENY FROM THS PERSON. Stolen from the person, in Preston, on the night of 14th instant:— a patent silver lever Watch, maker's name on dial ' W. Benson, London,' has engraved on the inner case the words, ' To Thonras Sharpies, boot and shoemaker, by a friend ' ; had a gold Albert Guard, long link pattern, attached. Information to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Office, Bristol.— Bow- street, June 21. Stolen from the person, at Newton Races, on 16th and 18th instant:— a silver Geneva Watch, No. 24328 ; a silver lever Watch, No. 3412, rnak. it- Willman, Bangor ; a silver Geneva Watch, No. 89105, maker Armand, Geneve; a gold hunting Watch, makers Frodsbarn, and Keen, Liverpool.; and gold Albert Guard, with Guinea attached; a gold hunting Watch, No. 4682, Jmaker's name ' Sandon, Palais Royal, Paris,' on dome, has a small opening in front case, so that you can see the time wit hout opening it. Description of a man, late of Dayhills, near Stone, charged with stealing Halt'- a- Sovereign from the person, at Dayhills, on the night of 2nd instant:- a labourer, about 21 yrs. of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 holies high, pale complexion, dark hair and eyes, stout build, and a native of Leigh, near Uttoxeter, and his grandfather resides at Gratwich, Uttoxeter. Stolen by means of burglary, between 12 p. m. and 5 a. m. on 10th instant, at Wallingford :— a gold Geneva Watch, No. 27862, maker's name Motteo, with hair guard attached ; 2 gold Lockets, with Pencil Case attached; silver Brooch and Necklet ; plated Sugar Tongs ; 2 Ladles ; meerschaum Pipe. Stolen between 6 and 9 p m. on 18tlr instant, by means of housebreaking, from Grosvenor- plaee, Penn Fields: — a pair of black cloth Trousers, fly- fronts, nearly new ; a black cloth Vest, very open front, nearly new ; a suit of light brown Tweed, much woiu; a pair of blue mixture cloth Trousers, fly- fronts, much worn ; a ditto brown Trousers', cloth, fly- fronts, much worn ; a light brown ulster Overcoat, pockets on hips, and outside left breast, much worn ; all men's Bizes. S.' scratched in small letters on back of case ; 3 gold Lockets, an old Scarf Pin, 2 old- fashioned Seals for fob chains ; a metal watch Chaiir, snake pattern, imitation gold ; a long white metal watch Chain ; 18 pair3 of two- button light kid Gloves, maker ' Feston'; a black alpaca Umbrella, about 2 lb. of coloured fleecy Wool, 3 packets of note Paper, a packet of Chadwick's sewing Cotton, a pair of bluo worsted Stockings, and £ 3 8s. in Cash. The thief will no doubt be wearing the Stockings, as an old pair were left behind. Information to Chief Constable Hall, Congleton, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 21. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 1 and 5 p. m., on 18th instant, at Horley, Surrey :— a black cloth Coat, straight backed, two pockets on hips, one inside left breast; a pair of black cloth Trousers, fly fronts ; a pair of dark cloth ditto ; an old fashioned rep Overcoat, dark colour; a blue bundle Handkerchief; and a small lime Piece, with ridge top. By a tramp, from 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, dark whiskers and moustache, cut short; dressed m black cloth coat, cord trousers, and brown cloth cap, with peak. Information to Mr. Supt. Redford, Surrey Constabulary, Godstone.— Bow- st., June 21. Stolen, by means of burglary, at Brentwood, on 16th instant:— a large quantity of ladies' silk Ribbons, various colours ; a quantity of Lace and gossamer Fulls ; a quantity of ladies' silk Neckties; half- dozen gentlemen's whito silk Handkerchiefs ; two large carpet Bags ; a small carpet Bag ; and about £ 10 in Gold. Supposed by two men— first between 20 and 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, no whiskers or moustache, and fair complexion ; dressed in drab overcoat, and hard felt liat ; and the other 20 to 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in black suit and hard felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Dobson, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, June 21. Description of a man concerned with JOHN GEORGE OWENS, in custody for burglary :— 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, rather long nose, reddish hair, cut Bhort, small red whiskers, slight moustache fair, grey eyes, thin build, long thin bauds, has impediment in his speech ; dress ( generally) dark clothes, felt hat, respectable appearance, generally carries a black or carpet bag, and supposed accom- panied by his wife, who is short and thin, dark, delicate looking; wears black hat with white feather. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.,— Metro polilan Police, June 21. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, at Darlington- road, near Northallerton, on 16th instant:— a dark grey cloth Coat, two pockets outside with flaps, and one inside left breast, Vest and Trousers same material; a black cloth Coat and Vest, all men's size ; a dark grey cloth Suit to fit a boy 16 years of age; and a dark grey plaid Suit, to fit a boy 12 years of ago, all in good condition. Supposed by a rag gatherer about ? 1 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, supposed dirk hair a whiskers down face ; dressed in dark brown coat, torn nv vent behind, black cord trousers, black cap. Carried ig bag ; and his wife about 30 years < liddle size; dr ' in black straw hat with feather, dark waterpro cloak, reaching to heels and tight-; • Th were seen in company of two men, near the house robbed :— one man about 18 years of age, middle size ; dressed in dark clothes and velvet cap with tassel on top ; the other about 20 years of age"; . dressed in dark grey clothes and dark cap. The woman aud her husband were traced to Entercommon, near Darlington, the latter carrying a bag nearly full. Supposed by three men who have been traced from the Vicarage to Netteswell Parndon, Essex, going in the direction of Waltham Abbey :— one about 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, aud sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, felt hat, aud lace- up boots. The other two men about 20 to 35 years of age, and about 5 feet 8 ins. high ; dressed in dark clothes, felt hats, aud one ( if them was carry- ing a bundle, and wearing very old shoes, had the appearance of mechanics. An ' Evening Standard,' of Saturday's date, was found at the Vicarage. £ 20 reward will be paid by Mr. Supt. Ryder, for the apprehension of the thieves on conviction. Information to Mr. Supt. During the night of 10th instant, an office at New Holland, was broken into and stolen therein.:— a black pilot cloth reefing Jacket, velvet collar, light twill lining, repaired at the side under left arm, one inside left breast pocket, two outside pockets, with flaps, black bone buttons, turning brown, about half worn ; a black cloth reefing Jacket, velvet collar, a slit under right arm, lined with black alpaca, sleeves lined with white twill lining, four black bone buttons down front, much worn. Supposed by a man between 30 and 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high; dressed in close fitting cap, brown coat, dirty light trousers ; he carried a sack or bag, which appeared bulky. Information to Inspector Ward, Barton- on- Humber, Lincolnshire.— Bow- st., June 16. On 11th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Baker, Adversane, Billingshurst, was entered, and stolen therein :— a small silver foreign Coin ; a copper foreign Coin ; a gold wedding Ring, broken ; and a small Picture of a little girl. Supposed by two tramps, one 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, full face ; dressed in a dark suit of clothes, wearing a cap with a leather strap across the front, with a brass button on each side ; the other 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, long thin nose and face ;^ dressed in a monkey jacket, white slop under, and black felt hat, appears like a German bandsman. They are carrying a round can, used by them for heating water, also a white basket ; gone in the direction of East Sussex and Kent. In- formation to Mr. 8upt. Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bow- street, June 16. During the night of 11th instant, the County Court Offices at Wrexham were broken into and stolen therein :— 13s. 4d. in Silver and Copper, also a silver lever Watch, No. 1019, maker Griffiths, Llanrwst. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Wilde, Wrexham, Denbighshire.— Bow- st., June 16. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Hoo, Kent, on 13th instant:— a silver lever hunting Watch, Maker Collins, No. 5219. Information to Mr. Supt, Coppinger, Kent Consta- bulary, Chatham.— Boio- street, June 16. HORSE AID CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Halesowen, Worcestershire, on 17th instanta white Milch Cow, one horn grows across its face, and has on a knob. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemp, Halesowen' near Birmingham.— B) "'- street, June 21. Stolen from a field at Haigh House Hill, Longwood, between 10 p. m 15th and| 7 a m. 16th instant:— a bay Horse, half bred, about l$£': handa high, 10 years old, in fair condition, with switch tail, light iu the legs, has a recent scar on the left buttock, and the hair is rubbed off the shoulders, from the collar, lately used in a ' bus. Information to Mr. Supt. Goodall, West Riding Constabulary, Huddersfield.— Bow- atreet, June 21. Description of MARK RYDER, a cattle dealer, of Richmond, Yorkshire, remanded until 22nd instant, on a charge of stealing a roan Bullock ( recovered), during the night of 7th - instant, or morning of 8th — 41 years of age, 5 feet 7i inches high, fresh complexion, blue mark under right eye, li. ht blue eyes, dark brown hair, turning grey; dressed in a brown cloth coat and vest, grey striped trousers, black billycock hat, and strong lace- up boots ; he is known to cattle dealers throughout Yorkshire, Durham, and Cumber- land. Information to Mr. Superintendent Kennion, North Riding Constabulary, Leyburn, or to Inspector Holmes, Police Station, Bedale, N. B. Yorks.— Bow- street, June 21. Supposed stolen on 10th instant, from a field at the Pheasey Farm, Great Barr :— a black cob Horse, 14J hands high, rough mane, short thick tail, recently blistered on hind legs, and in good condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, Police Office, Wednesbury, Staffordshire, or to P. C. Given, Police Station, Great Barr, near Birmingham.— Bow , June 18. appearance, very good tradesman, walks erect, and smart on his feet. A married man, aud has one young child, may be accompanied by his t^ ife, who is about 20 years of age, tall, and has friends at Merthyr. Information to Mr. Supt. Matthews, Glamorgan Constabulary Office, Pontypridd.— Bow- st., June 21. Description of JAMES DURRAN, alias JAMES STACEY, alias JAMES HOPKINS, charged with larceny of a Watch, as bailee^ on 7th. instant, at Stafford :— 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 or inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, bald on top of head, large sandy moustache, no whiskers, dark eyes, stout build, a tramping watch and clock cleaner, and native of Northamptonshire ; dressed in a dark small ribbed cloth jacket, dark grey large plaid trousers and vest, tall black hard billycock hat with flat crown, dark necktie, turned- down rjaper collar, and old elastic- side boots. He took out a peddler's certificate at Stafford on 29th ultimo, in the name of James Hopkins. He pledged the Watch taken from Stafford at W. Hampton's, ou 7th instant, and another Watch at Porter's pawnshop, 278, Deansgate, Manchester, on 12th instant. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell. Forebridge ; or to Inspector Chaplain, Guildhall, Stafford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., June 18. Description of JOSEPH MAHONEY, an Irish labourer, who is charged with stealing a Coat ( recovered), and who was admitted to bail to appear [ at Tredegar Petty Sessions on 15th instant, but failed to do so : — 130 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, rather stout build, dark complexion, dark brown hair cut short, dark moustache, shaves his face, lost left eye ; dressed in old blue serge jacket, or may be wearing an old dark coat, old woollen glengarry cap with peak, no linings, old moleskin trou ers, strong half- worn lace- up boots ; very much addicted to drink. Has been employed for the last 4 years at ironworks in South Wales, and stated when he left on 14th instant that he wiuld endeavour to obtain employment among the farmers harvesting. Informa- tion to Sergeant Kendall, Ebbw Vale, Monmouth, who holds warrant.— Bow- street, June 18. Charged on warrant with larceny as bailee, of £ 35, at Wednesbury, on 12th instant:— RICHARD JACKSON, a labourer, 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark hair, thick and curly, very keen dark eyes, medium build, bushy whiskers and moustache, shaves under chin, single; dressed in blue pilot jacket and vest, moleskin trousers, and knitted woollen cap ; has the appearance of an engine- fitter. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, Wednes- bury, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, June 16. Stolen about noon on 11th instant:— apair of gentlemen's seal Alpine Shoes, size 4, pointed toecaps, with holes punched round, row of small rivets round the heels, and half- circle of sprigs, within row of rivets, had 4 or 5 holes punched up each side, but not eyelited, lined with scarlet, or brown leather.
