The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear tine Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE n. ay be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. ' Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must lie prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ® f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on " War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of tie reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tire persons forwarding them, ' ihey should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of tho property, without the apprehension of the offender. Stolen from the person in Bolton about 9 p. m., on 18th ultimo :— a gent.' s gold lever Watch, maker's name ' Stewart, Liverpool,' No. 2706, gold dial, slightly dinged on the back of the case, and has black metal fingers, and a gold Albert Chain, with a heart Locket attached at the end. £ 2 reward will be paid by the owner of the Watch for such information as will lead to the recovery of the property, and apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves. Stolen from the person, at Beverley, during the races on 2nd and 3rd instant:— 1 old- fashioned silver Geneva Watch, 1 Isaac Kemp, Hempholme,' upon the case ; 1 silver Geneva Watch, No. 10090, gold plated Albert, with Seal and Key attached. Information to Mr. Supt. Knight, Guildhall, Beverley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 9. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette " no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. BURGLARY AMD HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking from a cottage in Munsley- lane, near Ledbury, between 10 a. m. and 1 p. m. on 10th instant: a double case Watch, german- silver cases, name ' Stephen Pitt' inside of case, steel chain with two common seals attached, supposed to have inside cases several papers with the names of ' Berkley and Allgood, Ledbury,' where the watch has previously been repaired. Information to Mr. Supt. Blunsdon, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Great Blackenham> between 2 pm. and 3 p. m. 6th instant, supposed by 2 tramps one a middle aged man, with stumpy beard ; the other a younger man, with cord trousers, mended with piece of dark stuff in front :— 2 Watches, one good old silver eased, supposed . No. 71166; brass Pin in bow, with brass Guard attached the other an old brass Watclr, key hole on face ; also 5 Sliill ings in Copper, with a few French Pennies amongst them. Information to Mr. Supt., Fisher, Ipswich.— Bow- street. 14. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the evening of 2ud instant, the dead body of a newly- born male Child, wrapped in a piece of a sheet with a coarse apron over it, was found in au opening leading to the back of Forth Terrace, Newcastle- on- Tyne, aud the Coroner's Jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Her Majesty's Government will pay £ 50 reward to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of tState will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. The articles iu which the body was wrapped may be seen upon application to Mr. Supt. Campbell, Westgate Police Station. Absconded, charged with forging and uttering a Cheque for £ 20 lis. ou the London aud Westminster Bank, Temple Bar Branch, on 20th ultimo :— WM. BARTER, beer retailer, White Horse, York Street, Chelsea, 50 year s of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers, beard and moustache ( cut short), and turning grey. Probably may be found at Race Meetings. Warrant issued. Information to the Director, C. I. D., Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, June 14. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person, at Ascot, during the races on 10th instant:— a gold Geneva Watch, No. 73351. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Blake, Berks Constabulary, Clewer.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen from the person at Everley, near Scarborough, on 5th instant:— a Watch and Gu ird, watch recovered. Sold at Flask inn, near Whitby, by ROBERT WATSON, alias HAMELTON, a labourer, a native of Whitby, 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, rough beard, no whiskers or moustache, stout build ; dressed in old dark coat aud vest, fustiau trousers, patched at knees, red handkerchief, and black cap. This man has been frequently convicted at Malton, Pickering, and Whitby, for robbery and assaults on the police, was tried at Northallerton Quarter Sessions, in April, 1879, for a violent assault ou tho police at Whitby, and sentenced to 12 calendar months hard labour, he may seek employment amongst farmers or public works, or may try to get on board a fishing boat. Information to Between 12 30 and 1' 40 p. m. 10th instant, a dwelling- house was broken into, and stolen therefrom, at Okeley, near Market Drayton :— a Sovereign ; two Half- crowns ; and two Sixpences. Two tramps suspected :— one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, stout build; dressed in dark pilot jacket, light trousers, sammy hat, and lace- up boots ; the other about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build ; dressed in long dark coat, light trousers, cap, and lace- up boots. Both supposed forgemen. Informa- tion to Sergeant Hall, Police Station, Ashley, near Market Drayton, Salop.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen by means of burglary, at Bentley Hall, Suffolk, during the night of 8th instant, or morning of 9th instant :— a mahogany Box, with a dozen steel Knives and Forks, ivory handles ; Lid and Plate of butter dish, silver, cow on the top of lid ; silver cream Jug and sugar Basin ; a pair of silver Salt- spoons, gold colour inside; 4 silver Tea- spoons, marked with ' K' on handle; a silver Dessert- spoon; an electro Dessert- spoon ; and a silver Mustard- spoon ; 4 electro Dinner- forks ; and electro plated Trowel, inscription on it ' Presented to Thomas Keeble, Esq., by the Trustees of the Chelmondiston Wesleyan Chapel, 4th September, 1879 ;' 2 silver Thimbles 3 pairs of Scissors; about a dozen brass Buttons, uniform, marked ' Worcester' with an anchor ; 4 Overcoats, one black, one blue cloth, with velvet collar, one light coloured old coat, very thick and heavy, the other a very old thin light dust overcoat; and a black felt Hat, with flat crown ; also a solid silver butter Knife. Information to Mr. Supt. Fisher, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- street, June 14. During the night of 2nd instant, a dwelling- house at Maidsmoreton was burglariously entered and stolen therein : 17 Table Spoons, 24 Dessert ditto, 25 Tea ditto, 2 Gravy ditto, 7 Salt ditto, some with crest— three arrows through a crown, others with the letters ' H. H., W. A., C. P.' ; 18 iarge Forks and 24 small ditto, some with crest— a lion rampant, others with the letter ' U.'; 1 Waiter ; 1 Sugar Sifter, lined with gold ; 1 pair Sugar Tong3, 1 pair Asparagus Tongs; 1 Soup Ladle, with crest— a star ; 2 round Salt Cellars, with three legs, and the words ' A Trifle from a Friend' on the bottom, all silver. Three £ 5 Bank of England Notes, £ 15 in Gold, about 10s. in Silver, and a Money Bag, marked ' G. E. R.' Supposed by two men, who left Bletchiey Station by the 7' 5 a. m. train on 3rd instant, taking 2nd class tickets for Euston- station : one is from 30 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, full face, and small thin sandy whiskers dressed in a light speckled top coat and high black hat; tlie other is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, very large black curly whiskers, hollow cheeks, sullen appear- ance, and thick lips ; dressed in a long black top coat, dark trousers, and high black hat. 6 gold Seals, five of them on a chased gold ring - a very largo Seal with dark green stone, crest a stag's head ; a small ditto with white stone, crest stag's head; a ditto with violet coloured stone, with letters ' M. H. T. H. A. A.' ; a ditto with a red stone, with the setting sun; a ditto with ditto and the word 1 Paix'; a ditto, colour of stone not known, has the crest of three arrows drawn through a ducal coronet, were also stolen at the same time and place. Information to Mr. Supt. Shepherd, Police Station, Steeple Claydon, Winslow; or to Inspector Ray, Maidsmoreton, Buckinghamshire.— Bow- street, June 14. About 1230 a. m. on 9th instant, a dwelling- house at St. Alban's, was entered, and stolen therein :— a silver Mug, with the initials ' A. J. R.'; a plain ditto; a silver plated revolving Egg- stand, ' Presented to Philip Reynolds, 1811' ; a plated coffee Pot; a ditto cream Jug; a cake Basket, 12 inches over ; two plated half- pint Mugs; a ditto netted sugar Basiu, with red glass ; a toast Rack ; an 8- hole ( Suet- stand ; a 4- hole ditto ; a snider central fire Rook Rifle, the barrel 2 feet 4 inches long, name of ' G. Gooch' on the breech; and a Dutch Cheese. Information to Mr. Supt. Pike, St. Alban's, Herts.— Bow- street, June 11. On the evening of 6th instant a shop in Manchester was broken into and stolen therefrom : — 3 gent's gold Geneva Watches. 1 lady's do. do. 1 silver rack lever Watch, lgose case, and minute hand off. 27 silver Geneva Watches. 4 long gold Guards, 9- carat. 1_ coloured gold Brooch, - pearls in centre, set in black ground. 5 gold wedding Rings. 96 gold keeper Rings, one very broad. 1 silver Locket, with ' Mizpah' on it, and a gold Chain attached. 1 gold Locket with Chain attached. 48 Canadian Alberts. 1 diamond Ring, set with pearls, 15- carat. 1 gold opal Ring, 15- carat, a stone missing from the centre. 1 gold Ring, 15- carat, set with 5 pearls. 1 gent.' s 15- carat gold Ring, set with single garnet. 1 ditto 9- carat ditto set with 3 pearls and corals. 1 9- carat garnet Ring. 1 cameo Brooch, off colour, representing the head of a female. £ 10 reward will be paid, by the owner of the property for its recovery ( or iu proportion to the amount recovered), and the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves. Stolen in Manchester, between 1st and 2nd instant, by means of shopbreaking :— An 18 carat gold Locket, set with pearls in shape of cross. An 18 carat gold Locket, with pearl in centre. A bright gold Locket, enamelled with tombstone, part of enamel broken. A 15 carat gold Bracelet, oval pattern, set with three carbuncles. An 18 carat gold Trinket, shape of a man's head. A 9 carat small gold Boat, several gold Seals, and other Appendages. Several gold and silver Pencil- cases, one with inscription ' Presented by the Clerks of Salford Town Hall.' A diamond cluster Ring, supposed set with eight small and one large stone in centre. An ,18 carat gold Rin g, set with two diamonds and one ruby, scratched ' C/ E/ O' A gold Pin, form of a horse's hoof, 15 carat, hollow. A 15 carat gold Pin, form of an eagle's claw holding an aqua marine stone. A 15 carat gold Pin, triangular shape, set with bloodstone. A gold Pin, imitation of dog's head painted upon it. A set of 9 carat gold Studs, shape— bricksetter's trowel, with white coral handle. A set of gold Studs, turquoise stone, 15 carat. A set of gold Studs, carbuncle stone, 15 carat. A white flannel Shirt, marked ' CIK.' A white flannel Petticoat, worked with red worsted at bottom, marked ' U/ R,' a new bed Tick, marked ' B/.' A pair of man's elastic- side Boots, pearl buttons down front. A new white holland Pinafore, trimmed with Turkey red. A new striped Pinafore. A black and white plaid Shawl. Two new coarse linen Aprons, marked ' N 3/ 4.' A child's dark blue Frock, new. Two red ditto. A pair of caddy Sheets, soiled. A white Skirt, with insertion round bottom. Several Cigar- holders, and meerschaum Pipes, new and second- hand. Most of the jewellery is seratched with private marks. £ 10 reward will be paid by the owner on recovery of the property, or in proportion of amount recovered, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Stolen on night of 9th instant, at Thorpe, Surrey :- a half- bred Mare, brown, 5 years old, 15J hands high, star in forehead, the property of Mr. Pullen. Information to Mr. Supt. LARGENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen from a dwelling- house, at Union- place, Whitby,' between 8 and 9 p. m. on lOt'i instant :— a lady's black silk Dress, moonshine trimming, supposed name on waistband ' Clarkson. draper, Whitby ;' ^ black embroidered Cashmere, Dress, with stamped trimming, has separate waist, name ' Clarkson, Draper ;' a long black silk Jacket, trimmed with dark fur, and wadded, name ' Clarkson, draper ', on neck ; a black alpaca Dress, fluted on waist, back and front, also down front of ssirt; a brown alpaca Dress, short waist, plaited, also pleated down front of skirt; a black ribbed cloth Jacket, trimmed with silk fringe ; a silver Geneva Watch, No. 4621, with a piece of black co d, and Ke/, attached ; a lady's black and white silk Waist, trimmed with silk fringe ; a black silk Waist, trimmed with beaded fringe ; 2 white flannel Petticoats, marked ' M. B.' o> top band; a black and white striped imitation winsey Skirt; a pair of worked wool Slippers, new, name inside each Slipper, ' Woodruff;' a black corded Dress, made plain ; a black silk velvet Jacket, made to fit tight; a black ribbed cloth J acket; a hair watch Guard, mounted with gold ; 5 yards of unbleached Calico ; 4 Collars ; a Knott of dark grey'Wool; and a quantity of ladiesj Uiiderlinen. 2 tramps were seen in the neighbourhood, and are suspected, lst, about 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark beard, turning grey ; dressed iu a dark coat, much torn behind, and a cheese cutter cap ; the other about 17 years of age, 5 ft. high ; dressed in a grey dress, black hard felt hat, and with- out shots aud stockings. Information to Mr. Supt. Ryder, North Biding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 14. Description of ELI EDWARDS, charged on warrant with stealing a pair of Boots at Whittington on 25th ultimo ( since recovered) ; he is a native of Ruyton Eleven Towns, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark sallow complexion, brown hair, slight build, very small moustache, and a mason ; dressed in dark plaid jacket, dark vest, cotton cord trousers, having been recently washed, old lace- up boots, and hard felt hat Supposed to be in Staffordshire Potteries. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, or Sergeant Leader, Oswestry, Shrop- shire, who holds the warrant.— Row- street, June 14. Stolen at Prestwich, between 11 p. m. 9th, and 7 a. nV 10th instant :— a ' Little Wanzer' Sewing Machine, stands on a marble slab, about 12 inches high, and 10 inches long ; Book on the art of ' Cooking'; a volume of Shakespeare's works; aud a religious Book. Supposed by a man, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark sallow com- plexion ; dressed in dark monkey jacket, dark trousers, and billycock hat. Information at County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen between 9: 30 and 11: 30 a m., on 11th instant, from a cottage, in Denton, Sussex :— a black cloth Jacket, pockets on each hip, one on left breast, outside pocket, Handkerchief in one pocket; a pair of black cloth Trousers, with flaps; a Vest, very dark tweed, and coloured back ; a blue silk Neck- erchief. with red stripes, marked ' T. C.'; a full bosom Shirt with linen collar, front, and wristbands ; 2 pairs white cotton Drawers, one pair marked ' T. Cooper,' and the other pair ' A. Cooper' a white cotton under Vest -, marked ' A. Cooper'; 2 pairs cotton Socks, with red aud blue stripes, marked ' A. Cooper'; and a Tea Cloth, about 3 feet long, with three pink stripes as a border. Supposed' by a man who was seen near the house in the morning, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache, a labourer ; dressed in short brown jacket, and brown cap, with peak. Information at Chief Constable's Office, or to Mr. Supt. Osbon, Lswes, Sussex.— Bow- street, June 14. Stolen at West Chickerell, Dorset, on 4tli instant:— a black double- breasted monkey Jacket, outside pockets on each hip, and one inside breast pocket ; a pair of dark mixture cloth Trousers, fly fronts ; a black Necktie with blue stripes; a pair of new blue worsted Stockings ; and a velvet Necktie with white stripes. By a tramp, WILLIAM BOWERING, from Lincolnshire, 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark complexion, dark curly- hair, round shoulders, walks rather forward, and suffering from skin disease in the legs ; dressed in old dark tweed jacket, light cloth trousers, old heavy lace up boots, plaid shirt, and imitation fur cap. Is in the habit of sleeping in Unions. Information to Mr. Supt. Batty, Dorset Constabulary, Dorchester. — Bcw- street, June 14. HENRY BANKS, advertised iu Police Gazette of 5th ultimo, and for whose apprehension a warrant was issued, for stealing a Watch, has been apptehended, and sentenced to 3 months hard labour in H. M. Gaol at Lewes — Bow- street, June 14. JOHN O'DONNEL. charged with, stealing the Apron, and silver Candlestick, from Pentrehobin, Mold, has been apprehended, and the property recovered, aud advertised in Police Gazette, of 9th instant.— Bow street,. June 14. Absconded from Leek, about 17th ultimo, charged with embezzlement;— JOSEPH HENRY ARMITT, about 44yrs. of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, very slight moustache, and stout build ; dressed in dark clothes, a shoemaker. Information to Mr. Supt. Williams, Police Office, Leek, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 14. Absconded on 8th instant, charged with stealing £ 26 10s.:- WALTER WILLIAMS, late of 28, Citizen- road, Holloway, 30 years of age 5 feet 8 inches. high, fresh com- plexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache sandy; dressed in brown check tweed suit, black felt hat. £ 5 reward will be paid by Mr. Lewis Harron, 320, High Holborn, to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension of the above. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard. S. W.— Metro- politan Police, June 14. Stolen at Maunby, near Thirsk, between 11 a. m. and 6 p. m. on 10th instant :— a silver Geneva Watch, No. 41306 ; and a long gold Guard, snake patter n. Supposed by a man, 40 to 50 years of age, 5 leet 10 or il inches high, fresh com- plexion, finger whiskers, shaved on chin bushy at the sides, large nose, Stout build, both hands deformed from rheumatism, fingers contracted ; dressed in long dark top coat, faded brown trousers, and hard felt hat, with narrow brim. Hawks note paper, pins, and needles. Information to Deputy Chief Con- stable Walmsly, Northallerton, or to Inspect^ Nicholson, Thirsk, Yorkshire— Bow- st,, June 14. The man advertised in the Poliee Gazette of 4th instant for stealing a moleskin Jacket from Churchstoke has been apprehended and remanded until 24th instant. He gave the name of JAMES CLARE, 25 years of age, 5 feet 3£ inches high, dark complexion, dark hair cut short, small dark whiskers and moustache, hazel eyes, cut marks under right eye, bridge of nose, on left side of forehead, aud on fleshy part of left hand^ from little finger joint, black mark on nail of second finger of right hand, strawberry muk on back, moles on left shorter blade, small of back, and on right side of neck, two vaccination marks on right arm, fresh boil mark on back of left thigh ; dressed in a dark blue jacket, moleskin trousers and vest, dirty and greasy brown cloth cap with peak of same material aud button on top, militia boots, and check neckerchief; states he is a wood turner, and native of Man- chester.
